Also, Mordecai is super sick. Or was? Funny TMI under the cut.
IDK. We left swimming and got about 1/3 of the way home and he said his tummy hurt, and I half brushed it off, then he said he REALLY needed to go to the bathroom. I was like “shit” because he does not mess around when it comes to poop. So just kind of, where can you poop when you’re not home and you don’t want to buy anything? The mall.  So We park, and start walking in and Kai asks me to walk slower because it hurts and “it’s coming out!” SO I  PICKED HIM UP AND SPEED WALKED INTO THE BATHROOM ACROSS THE MALL FROM THE ENTRANCE WE WENT IN AND I’M TELLING HIM TO TAKE DEEP BREATHS, WHILE HE’S DOING HIS BEST AND ALSO TELLING ME THAT IT’S COMING OUT AND I’M JUST LIKE DAMNIT I LEFT MY WALLET IN THE CAR SO IF HE HAS POOPED HIS PANTS, I DUNNO WHAT I AM GOING TO DO. Anyway, we get into the bathroom. No line, Thank gosh. And he unleashes hell on that toilet bowl. I swear it was half water, half solid and 90% of it was forts. Long, wet, noisy, farts. And I’m just sitting there and he’s clearly in pain and grunting and farting and I start laughing. So he starts laughing. And he’s farting and laughing and I’m dying in that stall, almost can’t breathe, tears running down my face laughing. I honestly don’t know if it smelled. Ladies were coming in and going out and me and Kai were in that stall for at least 7 minutes laughing. It was great. Then we washed our hands, and finally got on the road home again.  We made it the rest of the way home with no issues.

"Listen to them again: "I love you." Subject, verb, object: the unadorned, impregnable sentence. The subject is a short word, implying the self-effacement of the lover. The verb is longer but unambiguous, a demonstrative moment as the tongue flicks anxiously away from the palate to release the vowel. The object, like the subject, has no consonants, and is attained by pushing the lips forward as if for a kiss. "I love you". How serious, how weighted, how freighted it sounds.
I imagine a phonic conspiracy between the world’s languages. They make a conference decision that the phrase must always sound like something to be earned, to be striven for, to be worthy of. "Ich liebe dich": a late-night, cigarette-voiced whisper, with that happy rhyme of subject and object. "Je t’aime": a different procedure, with the subject and object being got out of the way first, so that the long vowel of adoration can be savoured to the full. (The grammar is also one of reassurance: with the object positioned second, the beloved isn’t suddenly going to turn out to be someone different.) "Ya tebya lyublyu" once more in consoling second position, but this time – despite the hinting rhyme of subject and object – an implication of difficulty, obstacles to be overcome. "Ti amo": it sounds perhaps a bit too much like an apéritif, but is full of structural conviction with subject and verb, the doer and the deed, enclosed in the same word".
In this passage from "A History of the World in 10 1/2 Chapters", Julian Barnes describes how "I love you" in different languages sound to him. Phonetically, languages aren't equal for the narrator. This recalls the old idea, that even at the level of acoustics, each language may have its own meaning (for example, is the sensual beauty of Italian resulted not only from cultural associations, but also from its inherent sequence of phonemes, affecting the listener's perception purely physically?). But the narrator analyzes this perception from the Englishman point of view as if he forgets that these words are usually articulated by the native speaker in a completely different phonetic context. This made me remember Pratchett’s little essay from the "Wee Free Men", where the sound of English words is considered in relation to their meaning from the native speaker point of view:
"… she thought there should be a word meaning ‘a word that sounds like the noise a thing would make if that thing made a noise even though, actually, it doesn’t, but would if it ‘did’.
Glint, for example.  If light made a noise as it reflected off a distant window, it’d go ‘glint!’  And the light of tinsel, all those little glints chiming together, would make a noise like ‘glitterglitter’.  ‘Gleam’ was a clean, smooth noise from a surface that intended to shine all day. And ‘glisten’ was the soft, almost greasy sound of something rich and oily."

Just re-read your Grauntie Ford series (because i love it so muh-uh-uuuuuch ;A;) but i did wonder to myself; how do you think the family dynamic would differ if all of the Pines twins were trans? Dipper and Stan trans-masculine and Mabel and Ford trans-feminine?
First off, thank you! I'm really glad you enjoyed.
Second, blanket disclaimer on all Grauntie Ford stuff and honestly all trans headcanon stuff on this blog: this is not something that falls within the realm of my personal experience, so if I step out of line, please let me know. I'm trying to be respectful, but I know that doesn't mean I can't make mistakes or have uninformed takes.
With that said! I percolated on this one for a while. I don't know if I have a lot of thoughts about the family dynamic, specifically, since I feel like in this scenario it'd be a lot closer to canon. Less misunderstanding based on ignorance, more misunderstanding based on personal insecurity and Filbrick Pines' A+ Parenting.
I do think it depends a little on whether it's an "I always knew" scenario for Stan (in which case Ford probably had a role model growing up and has less angst about Bill being the one to complicate her ideas of gender, but also they both faced more pressure from their home life) or if Stan ended up impersonating Ford after she went through the portal and then kind of went "wait, actually..." (in which case I think their reunion post-portal would be both more and less fraught, just in different ways).
Also, I feel like Mabel would respond to dysphoria with MORE GLITTERGLITTER AND SPARKLE AND EYE-CATCHING COLOUR, while Dipper would be more inclined to turtle in his puffy vest and death glare at anyone foolish enough to glance in his direction.

While I was writing the 'plump' post I wondered if there is a word for the effect I described - where a word 'sounds' like its meaning. There is - they're called phonaesthemes.
But I also found this characterisation of it by Terry Pratchett and I think it's brilliant:
Glint, glisten, glitter, gleam... Tiffany thought a lot about words, in the long hours of churning butter. 'Onomatopoeic', she'd discovered in the dictionary, meant words that sounded like the noise of the thing they were describing, like 'cuckoo'. But she thought there should be a word meaning 'a word that sounds like the noise a thing would make if that thing made a noise even though, actually, it doesn't, but would if it did.' Glint, for example. If light made a noise as it reflected off a distant window, it'd go 'glint!' And the light of tinsel, all those little glints chiming together, would make a noise like 'glitterglitter'. 'Gleam' was a clean, smooth noise from a surface that intended to shine all day. And 'glisten' was the soft, almost greasy sound of something rich and oily.

We finished swimming lessons today, and Mordecai passed!  It’s his first real structured sport-like activity, which we, as parents, stayed out of. I made sure Forrest and I were on the same page about not parenting from the sidelines. We went over the “rules of the pool” every morning, and talked about what he did well and what he needed to work on after each class. And he passed! I’m so proud! I cried! I pride cried for the first time.

Trick-or-Treat Yourself to These Spooky Halloween Makeup Essentials
Tumblr media
Get ready to look fang-tastic this holiday with these spooky Halloween makeup essentials.
Transform into the character of your dreams (or nightmares)!
Every party-goer needs these Halloween makeup essentials before a night full of tricks and treats.
As we get ready to chant, “Double, double toil and trouble; fire burn and cauldron bubble,” we can’t forget to look the part this ghoulish season. The first step is nailing down the look. While your costumes hang in your closet, it’s time to stock up on cosmetics. Check out the spooky Halloween makeup essentials every ghoul needs!
Enter if you dare!
Tumblr media
Black & white body paint
Every Halloween makeup kit needs black and white body paint. Whether you want to be a ghost, skeleton, or clown, you must have these two body paint colors. If you want to cover your entire face or parts of your body, we'd recommend stocking up on three or four tubes. If you want body paint that is long-lasting and blends smoothly with other makeup, check out theatre makeup brands like Ben Nye.
Fake blood
Create a horrifyingly amazing look this Halloween with fake blood! Every Halloween cosmetic set needs at least one tube of fake blood. Luckily, you don’t have to search far for it. Every Halloween store or supermarket will have a section dedicated solely to costumes and makeup. Online stores like Amazon will have options, as well!
Tumblr media
Special body effects
How often do you get to throw on special body effects? From extra body parts to deformities and injuries, October is the perfect month to get creative and go all out. But where do you find these extra features? The best places to find any special effect makeup items are stage makeup companies, Halloween shops, or online.
Glitter
Glitter and Halloween go hand-in-hand. It’s the one holiday (or month) where the more glitter, the better. Adding a splash of glitter to any Halloween makeup look will add that extra sparkle to stand out in the crowd. Plus, glitter also works on hair, costumes, and other parts of your body.
Tumblr media
Color cream makeup or body paint
While cruising down the Halloween aisle, you may notice a color cream makeup or body paint kit. Slide one of those bad boys into your cart and head to the checkout. One of these sets can help you create a variety of looks without breaking the bank. We suggest having multiple sponges and brushes, so you don’t mix the colors.
Stencils and body stickers
Some makeup designs are more difficult to free-hand. If you want fun styles or designs on your body, but don’t have a steady hand, you need to add stencils and body stickers to your Halloween makeup bag. You can find stencils and stickers of shapes, stitches, symbols, and more.
Black liner and lipstick
The moment October hits, black lipstick, lip liner, and eyeliner become harder and harder to find. Instead of searching high and low at every beauty store, stock up on these items as soon as possible. If you want high-quality, long-lasting products, we suggest checking name-brand stores like Jeffree Star, Anastasia Beverly Hills, and more.
With these spooky Halloween makeup essentials, you'll be the most glamorous ghoul at any event! Want to go all out with blood, gore, and special effects? Let one of our PROs in your area help! Download the MOBILESTYLES app today.
