I’ve been thinking about the relativity falls AU and we all kinda fill in Ford as Dipper and Stan as Mabel, and that’s all good and well, until you get to the portal scene.

I’ve always seen people writing or drawing Stan to fill in Mabel in this scene, trusting their Grauntie Mabel, and Ford begging him to shut the portal down.

But I really think the roles should be reversed here, Ford should be the one to trust Mabel, Stan should be the one to tell him not to. Stan (even in childhood seen in a tale of two Stan’s and lost legends) was always a little wary of people, he ABSOLUTELY would’ve trusted his twin over Mabel if he was the one over the portal button.

But Ford, he took peoples first word for the truth, he’s a little gullible (before the whole traveling the multiverse/finding out about bills true plans anyways), if he was the one with his hand over that button, I think he would’ve trusted Mabel.

Idk how to fully convey my whole thought process in a way that makes even a semblance of sense, so this is what you get

That one scene from Dipper and Mabel vs the Future but it’s Relativity Falls

Stan was in his room, looking through the scrapbook he had made. It was very much dirty, but it contained his memories of the summer. The boy let out a huge sigh and rested his head on the book. Then the door slowly opened, revealing his Grauntie Mabel. “Hey, everything alright, munchkin?” She asked sincerely. “I just can’t believe the summer’s almost over. Now that I know how awful highschool’s gonna be, I’m in no hurry to run back into Ma and Pa’s arms.” The boy said glumly. “Nobody likes getting older, but just because you’re practically a teenager doesn’t mean you have to act your age. I mean, look at me. I’m pushing 70 and I still eat Smile Dip for dinner.” Mabel said with a smile. “But I don’t want to say goodbye to Gravity Falls.” Stan said, leaning his head on her. “Hey, at least whatever happens after this summer, you’ll still have your brother along with you through thick and thin. Not everyone can say that, y’know.” Mabel said reassuringly. She gently ruffled her great-nephew’s hair and left the room, waving goodbye as the two sharing comforting smiles to eachother. “Yeah, at least when I go home, I’ll always have Stanford. Good ol reliable Sixer.” Stan said, picking up a photo of him and his twin brother.

Gravity Falls Grauntie Jhes AU

A while back, I wrote a fanfic prompt for an AU where Jheselbraum the Unswerving ends up coming to Earth and becomes Dipper and Mabel's honorary Grauntie. Well, I decided to expand on it and add a a few more details. Here they are:

-As mentioned before, Jheselbraum, or Jhes as everyone starts to call her, arrives shortly after Ford does. She shows up because the Axolotl told her that Stanford might need some help. She knows that Weirdmageddon is coming, but she can't give the Mystery gang all the details yet.

-Jheselbraum is capable of changing her size at will, so she makes herself the same height as Ford so it's easier to get around.

-She often finds herself mediating between Stan and Ford whenever they get into an argument.

-She finds herself bonding with Mabel, because the latter reminds the former of herself as a child. She participates in Mabel's slumber parties and has a heart-to-heart with her at one point, which turns out to be useful when she's in Mabeland.

-Stanford introduces Jhes to Dungeons, Dungeons & More Dungeons at one point.

-She has a fight with Bill Cipher during Weirdmageddon, but he's too powerful for her and she ends up incapacitated. Fortunately, Ford manages to save her.

-She goes back to Dimension 52 after Weirdmageddon, but still periodically checks up on Gravity Falls and the Stan twins.

I’m gonna post a long winded thesis about my thoughts on this AU, my take on the AU, and two additional arts under the cut because ooooh boy it’s a tad bit long lol. Also, please please forgive the formatting, I’m writing this all on the fly and it’s extremely disjointed, sorry- 💥

I know there’s the ‘canon’ Relativity AU designs and character dynamics, however I don’t really like them that much ngl. I feel like it mostly just ends up with ‘Mabel and Dipper get switched with Stan and Ford with no nuances once so ever’ and that BLOWS!!! There’s so much potential there and no one is playing with it!! YOU GUYS DON’T EVEN HAVE MABEL PRETENDING TO BE DIPPER, WHATS THE POINT????

Not only that but I feel like making Dipper and Mabel’s dynamic just Ford and Stan’s when they’re adults is a HUGE simplification of their characters. Like, Mabel and Dipper fight, but they don’t fight like Stan and Ford, they’re not as hard headed and stubborn. Mabel would commit some crimes yes, but I don’t believe she would get into some of the heavy shit Stan had in his past. I refuse to believe Mr. Dipper ‘Undiagnosed Anxiety Disorder’ Pines would fall for Bill’s flattery as easily as Ford did.

The Pines Twins are very different from the Mystery Twins. Mabel and Dipper didn’t grow up with a father constantly comparing the two and pinning them against each other, outright telling one kid they’ll always be a failure while the other is going to have the burden of making their family rich. They never had that tension. They wouldn’t be walking on eggshells around eachother as adults.

I know that makes the concept sound boring to some, ‘Where’s the fun in the AU if you take away the sibling fighting’. You cowards, you can still have it, young Stan and Ford are RIGHT THERE. During the second half of the show when Dipper comes back through the portal, instead of having the older set of twins, something that doesn’t male sense with their characters, have a building tension that’s going to explode soon and keep it between Stan and Ford, don’t take it away from them. If anything, I think taking away the resentment and anger growing between the two and giving it to Mabel and Dipped is a butchering of all the characters.

Sure that means some of the episodes would have to change or be completely erased, but that’s fine!!! Make up some new ones!!! Get silly with it!!!

Mabel and Dipper talk about feelings, Stan and Ford don’t. Mabel and Dipper can’t stay mad at each other, Stan and Ford will try and stay mad for decades because being angry is easier than being upset.

In my idea of this AU that fight at the end of Weirdmageddon HAS to be between Stan and Ford, and Stan HAS to still be the one getting his memories erased.

💥 Post Not-What-He-Seems Relativity AU Rambling Below 💥

Dipper is a paranoid man, fool him once you’re never going to fool him again. He would never in a million years ever work with Bill again. Ford however is an extremely lonely child, both he and his brother are desperate for any type of positive attention. I think Bill would see him as a potential protege, especially since Ford is a ‘freak’ like he is and the kid is extremely smart for his age. He’s malleable, Bill probably thinks he could shape him uo to be the perfect lackey.

Ford, being the lonely kid he is, probably does fall for the praise initially. He craves attention and Bill pushes all the right buttons and says all the right words, tries and gains his trust even if time has proven again and again that he shouldn’t be trusting the demon.

The tension between the Stan Twins would grow after Grunkle Dipper comes back because Ford is upset that Stan didn’t listen to him (even if it was for the best that he did) and that Grunkle Dipper forgave Graunty Mabel so easily because if Ford was in those shoes he wouldn’t have. It grows more and more as Ford becomes distant and Stan tries to connect with his brother to no avail. Which, of course, comes to a boiling point when Ford says he’s going to stay in Gravity Falls and learn under Grunkle Dipper. Stan is rightfully upset. He can’t go back to New Jersey by himself. It’s always just been the two of them, he needed Ford, he couldn’t handle school or their father by himself. He can’t be alone.

Unlike Mabel who just wanted one more day of summer, Stan wishes that he wouldn’t be alone, which indirectly causes Weirdmaggendon.

Stan’s prison bubble would probably be a fake New Jersey-esc town full of a bunch of little Stan running around. Town O’ Stan. A place where no Stan is left behind.

Ford says some nice words to Stan there to get him outta there but there is still this intense tension between the two.

During the Cipher Wheel Ford is the one who tackles Stan. The two fight, whining out hurtful words neither of them mean and only stop when Bill shows up and captures them. Graunty Mabel and Grunkle Dipper run off and distract Cipher in hopes that they can keep the attention on themselves long enough that their great nephews could come up with a plan to escape.

The younger twins don’t find a way out and instead, finally, have an actual talk about their feelings, one that definitely ends up in tears as the two talk about the pressure that’s put on them or how worthless they feel. After that the boys get a rush of determination to escape when Stanley has a plan. Ford immediately hates the plan but Stan insists that they do it, in his own words, ‘Let me prove I can do something right for once.’

When Bill comes back and threatens to kill either Mabel or Dipper just for the hell of it, Ford calls out that he’d like to make a deal.

He wants to work with Bill, let Bill into his mind willingly. Bill immediately jumps on that offer. Ford is a promising young kid, perfect henchmaniac potential, not to mention it would absolutely devastate Dipper is his great nephew willingly turned to Bill’s side.

He goes into Ford’s head, revealing Stanley just in time to reveal that he was trapped, panicking as he was erased with a swift left-hook along with a kid who was happy to prove he was good for something after all.

Everyone was devastated after Weirdmaggedon of course, a child had his mind completely wiped. Stanford took it the worst, he just managed to finally break down those words that others built in his head, that he was too good for Stanley or that he didn’t need a knucklehead like him dumbing down his brain, and now his brother was gone. Just like that.

We all know what happens after this, Stan gets his memory back, everyone celebrates and the Stan twins are sent home, promising each other that they’ll never let anyone try and tear them apart ever again. Dipper and Mabel stay at the shack, after all, all they could ever want is there, where else could they possibly go?

Sorry this was… extremely rambly and long, I am extremely tired and can’t think straight I have a bunch more ideas and concepts so if anyone’s desperately wants to hear them just ask I guess, sorry you read this dumb of ass essay haha 💥

MABEL ⇆ STANFORD

Mabel takes the role of Stanford in this au! Fun loving and enthusiastic since birth, Mabel was once a budding young photographer who eventually found her way as a newspaper journalist for Levity Rises. She quickly began to notice some of the strange things happening in the town, taking pictures and objects to create her own scrapbooks. She didn't think much of it at the time, but she was certain her brother would've liked the scrapbooks. Maybe if she'd done something earlier, she wouldn't have accidentally ended up in another dimension for 30 years- oh well- at least she knows how to kick ass across 7 different dimensions. Not sure how the identity theft is gonna work yet-

OK REFRESHER ON THE OLD CAST and added Grauntie Mabel too! One of my friends suggested to call Ford 'Sixer' the same way Dipper is named, so that's what's gonna happen going forward just cause it's a cool lil detail (plus in this au Six hides his hands in a similar way to Dipper hiding his birthmark so I think it works). Notes as per usual :]

Relativity Falls au but instead of the journal having Dippers birth mark or something, it has a hand print with only 4 fingers since Dipper and Mabel are only drawn with 4 fingers

Great-aunt May (Mabel) always wears gloves or something, and when the Stans ask her about it she explains how she lost her pinkies in a craft-related accident with proof of a scar on each hand (faked of course) so they’re not suspicious of her

Ford thinks the journal is the coolest thing because the author has weird hands like him (Mabel is immediately reminded of Dipper when seeing Ford at the beginning of the summer)

When we get to the Not What He (she) Seems episode, they find news clippings of someone with the initials of MP dying in some car accident where foul play is suspected, then another clipping of a “homeless woman at large” with a picture of Grauntie May, who’s missing the scars on her hands

Stan trusts her and doesn’t press the button, someone comes through the portal…

A four fingered man places his hand on the journal, finger splaying over the decorations in a perfect match. Dipper is revealed as the author, right before he promptly gets into a fight with Mabel, before realizing there are children present

Stan thinks it’s cool that Dipper is missing a finger when they shake hands, probably saying something about how Dipper and Ford could make a pair of normal hands together.

Ford freaks out because he’s related to the author of the journals, and Dipper thinks that Ford’s extra fingers are fascinating

ik ur technically supposed 2 start w the mystery twins x2 but god fiddles is my absolute fav so i HAD 2 start with him... <3

ive swapped him w pacifica!! (i was considering swapping him w candy buuuut i put candy in a diff role lol)

me rambling abt fiddleford in my au:

in this au, he's the eccentric hillbilly kid sort of like old man mcgucket in the og series (except he's not insane and just acts like that bc he wants to)

the townsppl constantly see him meandering abt w his MASSIVE "tea cup" pig dawdles and they get into kooky situations w/ his love of building weird, pretty destructive mechs. however, nobody knows that he's secretly the (adopted) son of the northwest family and his real name is archibald augustus III northwest!

how you may ask? bc nobody recognizes him w/o the slick northwest hairstyle. bc gravity falls ppl r kiiiinda dumb, minus grauntie mabel n the mystery twins.

fiddleford frequently sneaks out of the manor and eventually bumps into stan n ford! the twins initially think he's batshit crazy but they eventually become buddies :) eventually.

ill ofc go over pacifica in more detail on her post, but she's the "old witch of northwest" and is seen rarely, if at all. she resides presumably near the northwest manor and is sometimes seen foraging for strange things, which earned her the name of the "witch"

I LOOOOVE IT especially with the 2024 resurgence, people are coming up with some REALLY fun variations on it!! a lot of swaps seem like theyd be set in stone, right, but just like how i think that gideon is better suited as a mabel equivalent in reverse falls, ive seen people have a LOT of fun justifying why they do certain swaps! like ive seen ones where abuela is the soos equivalent and others where lazy susan is, ones where candy is the fiddleford and ones where pacifica is the fiddleford its neat

i also noticed a lot of people are toying around with dipper and mabels role in the au and questioning just how much one twin would steal the other's identity, like what that entails- ive seen trans interpretations of it one way or both ways are all ways and I LOVE THEM ALL. ive even seen people make mabel the ford equivalent and IT MAKES SENSE SOMEHOW?! cant you just imagine a badass old lady travelling the multiverse? isnt it COOL??

idk whether i like mabel as the stan or mabel as the ford better though, because ive always had such a soft spot for zany grauntie mabel and her getting to bond with the stans its so cute.

i do have to say, though, my current favourite new addition to relativity falls has to be with the fact that nobody really knew what to do with bill before, he was left mostly the same, but ive seen people saying that his parents would replace him in the story and OH MY GOD IM IN LOVE WITH THAT CONCEPT.

the idea of scalene and euclid being a tag-team of like, killer demons who have a touch of interdimensional baby fever so they keep trying to pseudo-parent the stan twins and spoiling them rotten while chastising dipper and mabel like terrible parents who spoil your grandkids. its kinda a crazy fun vibe

so when I think of the stan twins I think of idyllic seaside area...about twenty minutes away because glass shard beach really lives up to its name, polluted and covered in beer bottles as well as sea glass

and the pawn shop, well, not a place for kids, but filbrick couldn't care less

man up boys it's time to learn how to haggle!

and although the stan twins have...a...relatively...interesting life (if selling overpriced junk is interesting to you)  filbrick decides that these kids have it way too good. off to the countryside, you pampered little-

well, gravity falls is a...remote place. so with a bottle of sunscreen and a boot up the ass the stans are off to take on gravity falls with grunkle dipper! (or grauntie mabel. im considering having dipper impersonate mabel. MAYBE.)

and dipper is HARSH to ford. like...real harsh. dipper liked all that science stuff when he was a kid, and where did that get him? running a shitty tourist attraction with a box of fake ids under his desk. (sad) ford stumbles into the forest, hits tree, the whole journal finding scene. and branded with a shooting star is a journal describing all the anomalies of gravity falls.

not a massive scientific document, rather a brief study and description of the different creatures, how to protect and slaughter some of the more dangerous (and/or wearable) kinds aswell as various garments inspired by them

the whole tourist trapped gnomes take mabel away thing is flipped to a large group of fairies taking stan (more love for stan please 🙏) to be their king, bla bla bla, fly swatter instead of leaf blower, swat swat that's it, good job guys

in the time travelers pig (possum..rat thing?) we see stan win shanklin by guessing how many fleas are on him (old fifteen 'er) while ford tries to impress fiddleford by winning him a gobblewonker plush (fmcg: "I don't know what that monstergamajig is...but I want it!")

then we meet.... BILL!

bill and gideon are swapped in this au, so bill is a human with his own telepathy tent, branded with a triangle and famed for its "mind tricks"

he never takes off that stupid triangular eyepatch...

dipper...well dipper hates him. "that little brat, always calling me pine tree, making fun of the shack"

and immediately, like gideon, bill is drawn to ford, flattery, "mysteries? haha I love them we should totally talk ab them",n stuff, yadayada

RELATIVITY FALLS AU DESCRIPTIONS

MABEL PINES: The eccentric, excitable, crafty and still scrapbooking 60-something year old. She is the owner of the ‘Mystery Crafts’ where she creates sweaters, crafts, fake (or real..?) attractions and sweets! She has a degree in Art, and used to be a teacher in Piedmont California before getting fired and moving up to Gravity Falls Oregon to live with her brother in the early 80s. After a year with Mabel living with her brother, he mysteriously died in a car accident. Mabel seemed distraught and to keep paying for the shack’s mortgage opened the tourist trap ‘Mystery Crafts.’

DIPPER/MASON PINES: The stern, quiet, egotistical and nerdy 60-something year old author. After graduating college Dipper moved up to Gravity Falls Oregon to seek a more quiet life where he could get his research done. His old-college friend Candy Chiu followed after him wanting a quiet life too, and learning of the anomalies Dipper had found. Dipper and Candy were seen less and less by the town as they worked on their ‘projects’ a few years down the line. He began to put his studies into journals, even after Candy and him spilt. When Mabel moved in he was seen less and less by society as Mabel did his errands for him. One day while disassembling his biggest project, Mabel and him got into a huge fight. They had activated the portal on accident, Dipper was then sucked into it and since it wasn’t fully put together was unable to come home until thirty years later.

STANLEY PINES: The loud, curious and pickpocketing twelve year old. Sent to Gravity Falls Oregon from Glass Shard Beach New Jersey to stay with his Grauntie Mabel. Stanley had wanted to stay home, but since his father wanted to teach his kids to be more ‘independent’ he was sent to Gravity Falls. Trying to become accustomed to the new place Stanley had found a wild baby goat while exploring the woods, along with a journal with a Pine tree..

STANFORD PINES: The quiet, curious, and nerdy twelve year old bookworm. Who came along with his brother to live with his Grauntie Mabel for the Summer. Always trying to solve mysterious or having his head stuck in a book, while his brother was off exploring the woods he sat by a tree and began reading. Noting the strangeness of this town. Until his brother came back, not only with a wild baby goat he had named Gompers. But with a blue journal with a pine tree on the front, he had found in the woods.

CANDY CHIU: The deranged, psychotic and dissociated psych-ward patient (Takes half of Fiddle-ford’s place) Having grown up in California, moving to Gravity Falls Oregon with her best-friend she had made in college had been a dream. She had assisted him on his many projects, and he had assisted her with her projects as well. But when an unexpected accident occurred causing Candy to view another dimension from a portal-eyed view. She immediately quit, saying she couldn’t help Dipper anymore. As she left her work and Dipper behind. She slowly began going insane. Whether it be not talking, blinking oddly, muttering weird words or screaming she was eventually thrown into a psych ward after another incident.. She was visited by Dipper monthly after that, receiving flowers from him before his ‘death’

BILL: The demonic and evil triangle that had befriended Dipper (HIM AND DIPPER HAD NO ROMANTIC RELATIONS OR CRUSHES ON EACH OTHER. THEIR RELATIONSHIP WAS MORE AS FRIENDS BECAUSE DIPPER STRUGGLED WITH TALKING TO PEOPLE AND MAKING TJEM) trying to bring the nightmare realm to Earth. After Dipper found out his true intentions after the Candy incident he immediately stopped the building of his project. This enraged Bill as their friendship ended.. But Bill wanted revenge from Dipper’s betrayal..

oh wow thank you! even tho this is a swap au i always love doing swap aus where the personality doesn't change with it. mabel still has her creativity, dipper still has his awkwardness. but they went through the same thing stan and ford went through. so im like how would that effect how they dress and present themself?

relativity falls grauntie mabel looks WAY different from how i would think canon old lady mabel would look. she would be FULL cat lady, grauntie mabel isn't (for the most part) because of the shit she went through just like stan in her early years.

i think the only thing i would change in the designs is make mabel and dipper the same height. (also dipper is trans cause im evil)

The two of them travel the multiverse and get into many a shenanigan trying to find a way home. In most versions Stan and Dipper also work to bring their twins home

okay someone call the onceler fans we got an edgy twink hot off the press, behold my Relativity Falls Bill Cipher, owner of Cipher City! Basically he's a moody 13 year old who came into way too much money and a journal of weirdness, which he uses to run an ethically dubious roadside attraction, making bad fakes of the creatures he's read about, often forcing his parents Selene and Eustace to partake in his swindling, he has a grudge against Grauntie Mabel and the twins, specifically Ford who he keeps trying to manipulate into giving up the Shack, and is often scheming to gain access to the Mystery Shack, eventually he gets fed up and makes a deal with Gulden Krypto, this was a bad idea.

Bill's design here had one goal, cram as many triangles onto a human shape as possible, I think I did rather well, especially with the eyepatch (which is just for show) currently he's just a dumb kid with too much money and power, he won't become a true threat till he meets and befriends the Henchmaniacs of the AU in actual Adult Prison.

Gravity falls AU rant! Specifically cause I've been thinking too hard about relativity falls.

Mostly I've been trying to reconcile the common version with the fact that Dipper would never trust Bill.

Dipper and Ford are very similar, but Dipper doesn't have the same ego Ford does. At the age of 12 he only trusted his sister, an adult Dipper on his own would fall into depths of paranoia that would make him USELESS to Bill.

On the other hand Bill has a kind of fondness for Mabel exhibited in the show and reinforced in tBoB. She has a craziness he quite likes, and Mabel is much more swayed by that kinda flattery.

So.... Mabel-Ford and Dipper-Stan swap.

Grunkle Dipper (Mason?) is a somewhat nervous mad scientist type who turned his sister's weird house into a science museum for the people of gravity falls. Someone who insists there are logical explanations to the phenomena his nephews tell him about.

While Grauntie Mabel is a literal witch. Unlike Ford's made science she's much more mystical, using her love of art and the weird materials around the town to do things science cannot manage. Not nearly as easily. After being stuck in the multiverse for so long she's even zanier and more colorful than normal mabel
