How does glazing work? In the photos you just posted it looks like a solid layer like mud I was picturing it like a translucent coating like paint or modge podge. Does it peel off after firing?
Tumblr media
it actually melts! it hardens into that glassy finish once it cools. often the glazes are completely different colours before and after firing.
Tumblr media
ceramic glaze composition is a bit beyond me tbh—it’s either chemistry or witchcraft lol
Tumblr media
ceramic glaze coats the bisqueware and melts in the kiln. that’s why you have to be sure there’s no glaze on the bottom of pieces, or anything leaning against the piece, because once the glaze cools it will be attached to whatever it was touching
Tumblr media
(and these ones have glass marbles over the clear glaze—they melt down and create a cool watery effect)

The magnificent catbeast thrives in snowy conditions; its gorilla-like arms are theorized to help compensate for the weight of its neck.

I made a lemon blue isopod for my art midterm/3D art final

I finished early, and when he went to check it out he told me to make him a friend (if done early we were supposed to improve it but it was perfect as all isopods are)

This was the friend (+the lemon blue I made with its new friend) it was a lot more rushed and not as nice, but it was cute enough.

Glazed Pieces in Ceramics III
Victoria, our art therapy blogger, returns with an update on her ceramics pieces. Sharing the ups and downs of the firing process, she shows us how she fixes mistakes throughout the process. #MarywoodArt #ceramics #ArtTherapy
I took Ceramics II in my fall semester, and one of the last pieces I made was a sculpture, a hole in the shape of a heart on her chest. That specific sculpture, seen in the cover of this blog post, took a handful of hours of dedication to make and a good chunk of clay as well. It was fired during that specific semester, but I haven’t touched it until this past week because of my focus on other…

My moomin bell is out of the kiln! I’m not sure why the clear glaze came out so splotchy but other than that I like how it came out.
