I feel like if you're using a lot of disposable plastic bags in your day to day life, you've gotta do something sustainable to make up for it. Like using bamboo toilet paper or eco friendly cat litter or something, yknow
Honestly I exaggerate for comedic effect, while I DO routinely use ziplock bags to hold spaghetti I cook maybe once a month and the bag itself is usually for freezer storage. I actually throw out maybe one bag a week? I DO hate washing plates and tupperware and junk but that usually just means I eat sandwiches without a plate.
I agree though that needless waste should be avoided, and I do avoid it- biodegradable bags and recyclables, empty butter tubs used to store leftovers, etc.
This said, though, not applicable necessarily for myself but for a lot of others- I feel that it's importat to remember that there are many people who legitimately NEED things like plastic straws, or catheters, or pre-packaged foods
And the idea that that's a moral failing that individuals need to personally make up for when a single billionaire blows out more CO2 in a long weekend than I will in my whole life on a superjet meet-cute in the Bolivian rainforest between humvee drag races funded by the river-polluting textiles plants they planted in a third world country to avoid EPA laws and give an entire village stillbirths and stomach cancer is an idea that those very same bigwigs have spent a LOT of time and money investing in planting in the public psyche.
Like- Glass bottles are infinitely recyclable, so why are so many drinks in plastic now? Loads of drinks manufacturers used to buy them back and clean them for re-use, so why did they stop? If they chose to make something out of a limited and environmentally irresponsible material, why is it my failing to track down a correct process of disposal for them? What if there are none in my area? Do I lobby for more recycling plants in my area? Do I set aside some of my limited time outside the pain factory of my job- which I have more than one of, thanks to rising costs of things just like that drink I just emptied- to properly dispose of this company's waste FOR them?
Say coca-cola just rolled up to your town and started dumping millions of empty plastic bottles in the street, going, "wow, you should really think about building and staffing a recycling depot, it would be really shameful of you to just put these in the trash." When companies purposefully use materials with limited lifespans- because yes, even plastic can only be reused so many times- and tell you it's your own fault if it harms the environment- that's essentially what they're doing, just with more steps.
Yes, its important to be as environmentally concious as we can in our day to day life, but responsible sustainability is not catholicism. We don't get good boy points from our lord and savior Captain Planet every time the average low-income household gathers together to hold hands and repent for a single-use plastic that allows them to access something they need.
Entire families could eat trees and shit dead lithium batteries for years and still not do as much damage to the planet as an average dye plant or braindead celebrity does in a week just for fun, and I'm mad about it
...this went on longer than intended.
TL/DR: DO recycle and minimize waste, but don't beat yourself up over the little waste you can't avoid, and follow the money.
EDIT: Part 2
#I swear to god if any one of you in the notes calls me terminally online or pretends I'm saying you can just dump bags in the ocean#Yes definitely do your best to live sustainably#But also#You personally are not killing pandas#Unless you are in which case please stop#We put too much money into pandas but let them go in peace#Go do some yoga#Sorry if this is a lot but I have a friend with OCD who has legit panic attacks over stuff like this#Like they have to throw out a ripped plastic grocery bag they've had for six years instead of using it to weave yard furniture or smthn#And they'd go into a spiral about killing the planet#So like#I have strong feelings now

I feel like yall don't know bout earthships??
An earthship is a building that's built out of recycled materials (glass bottles, old tires, cans, etc..) and mostly Cob walls with solarpanels, wind turbines, greenhouses, and large water capture system to ensure all you need within the walls. All these components help regulate the temp for both plants and you creating a proper oasis from all of itnall
Here's a good dissection of one to give you an idea
The most famous one, and one of the first ones ever made back in the 1970s by a small off grid group working together is The Phoenix which was built as the model for how cool these guys could be its now a place you can take tours or rent-
But now there is so many different styles and cool ideas for it! Now some of these are merely concepts
But you can adapt them to any weather for your particular light/weather/energy conditions.
The main thing about Earthships is typically they are illegal to build as the US government considers them waste sites due to the materials their built out of.

1. Homes built with clay, grass, plastic and glass: How a Caribbean island is shying away from concrete
“[… Clay] traps moisture which then evaporates and pulls heat from the surface as it goes. […] The roof is covered in old recycled advertising banners and piece of a water tank, the other half of which is used to house some of Rahaman-Noronha's fish [… and] multi-coloured glass bottles inset into walls provide an avenue for streams of light and colour.”
2. To Combat Phoenix’s Extreme Heat, a New Program Provides Sustainable Shade
“The neighborhood workshops allow residents to get a shade plan tailored to their community’s needs and identify the locations where officials can plant trees. Meanwhile, the workforce-development side of the program creates the jobs needed to keep the trees alive for generations[….]”
3. Conservation corridors provide hope for Latin America’s felines
“[… S]cience has shown that to maintain healthy populations there needs to be connection between individuals. [… A] protected area that is close to another has more species and more potential for their survival.”
4. Social program cuts tuberculosis cases among Brazil's poorest by more than half
“The decrease [“in TB cases and deaths”] was over 50% in extremely poor people and more than 60% among the Indigenous populations. […] "We know that the program improves access to food [… and healthcare…] and strengthens people's immune defenses as a result.””
5. Geothermal has vast potential to meet the world’s power needs
“New geothermal systems could technically provide as much as 600 terawatts of carbon-free power capacity by 2050[…. C]ountries could cost-effectively deploy over 800 GW of geothermal power capacity using technology that’s in development today[….]”
6. New D.C. Catholic archbishop is pro-LGBTQ+ and anti-Trump
“In 2018, he objected to the blaming of gay priests for the clergy sexual abuse crisis, “saying that such abuse was a matter of power, not sexual orientation[….]” “We must disrupt those who portray refugees as enemies [… and] seek to rob our medical care, especially from the poor.””
7. Chesapeake Bay Will Gain New Wildlife Refuge
“The Chesapeake Bay area will have a new wildlife refuge for the first time in a quarter century. […] “This new refuge offers an opportunity to halt and even reverse biodiversity loss in this important place, and in a way that fully integrates and respects the leadership and rights of Indigenous peoples and local communities.””
8. Inside Svalbard seed vault’s critical mission to stop our favourite fruit and veg from going extinct
“[… T]he world’s largest secure seed storage […] sits proudly in a massive former coal mine[….] Right now, there are over 1,331,458 samples of 6,297 crop species. […] “During 2024, 61 seed genebanks deposited 64,331 seed samples, including 21 from institutes that deposited seeds for the first time this year[….]””
9. Medical debt will be erased from credit reports for all Americans under new federal rule
“The rule will affect more than 15 million Americans, raising their credit scores by an estimated average of 20 points. [… S]tates and localities have already utilized American Rescue Plan (ARP) funds to support the elimination of over $1 billion in medical debt for more than 700,000 Americans[….]”
10. 'Forgotten' water harvesting system transforms 'barren wasteland' into thriving farmland
“"The process started with the community-based participatory planning[….]” 10% to 15% of the water will actually soak into the ground to replenish the water table, creating a more sustainable agricultural process.”

Writing Reference: Symbolism of Colors
Colors are proven to have a profound effect on the human psyche and moods.
Territories use colors to represent themselves on their flags.
The significance of colors is proven by the high value that our ancestors placed on certain plants or substances that could be made into dyes, such as the Imperial Purple of Rome that was produced from a mollusk that was valued more highly than gold, or the saffron crocus that produced the sacred color of the same name.
Prior to the development of chemical dyes, the creation of colors that did not fade in the Sun or wash away was a combination of art, science, and magic, akin to an alchemical process.
The impact of the Sun shining through stained glass, painting the interiors of churches with living colors that shimmered and danced, in a medieval world where color was often a privilege of the wealthy few, can only be imagined.
The 7 colors of the rainbow—which break down into 700 shades that are visible to the naked eye—are associated with the seven planets, the days of the week, the Seven Heavens, and the seven notes of the musical scale.
Symbolic Meanings of Some Colors
BLACK
Night, the absence of light; mourning, sobriety, denial; authority; perfection and purity; maturity and wisdom.
Although it’s the opposite of white, both shades are, in fact, due to an absence of color, and technically speaking black is not a “color” at all. This doesn’t stop it having a wealth of symbolic meaning.
BLUE
Truth and the intellect; wisdom, loyalty, chastity; peace, piety, and contemplation; spirituality; eternity.
There’s something cool and detached about blue that gives rise to its reputation for spirituality and chastity. Above all, blue is the color of the sky. Like the sky, blue is infinitely spacious. It contains everything, and yet contains nothing. The color is therefore associated with ideas of eternity.
BROWN
Poverty, humility, practicality.
Primarily associated with the Earth, soil, the raw element before it is covered with greenery. The word for earth, in Latin, is humus, which carries the same root as humility. Religious ascetics wear brown as a reminder of this quality and also of their voluntary material poverty.
GRAY
Sobriety, steadiness, modesty.
Gray is the midway point between black and white, and tellingly the “gray area” is an area of indetermination, indecision, or ambiguity. To be described as gray is rather less than flattering, since gray is such a subdued and neutral color, and implies that the person blends into the background.
However, gray is also a color of balance and reasonableness and is the color used, in photography, to balance all others.
Because people’s hair turns gray with age, the word is often used to describe elderly people and is also a color of wisdom.
GREEN
New life, resurrection, hope; the sea; fertility and regeneration; recycling, environmental awareness; a lucky color; an unlucky color.
Green is an amalgam of blue and yellow, and is the color of the fourth chakra. Green is the universal symbol for “Go!” to red’s “Stop!”
MOTLEY
Wealth; a chameleon personality.
Not strictly a color as such, but a combination of many other colors. The word is generally used to describe cloth or clothing. The rainbow nature of motley means that whoever wears it has as many aspects as there are colors, a chameleon personality, and it can indicate the trickster or fool (as worn by the jester, or the Fool in the Tarot) as well as kings, emperors, and deities.
In the Bible, Joseph’s coat of many colors is the object of much envy.
ORANGE
Balance between spirit and sexuality; fertility and yet virginity; energy; the Sun; like yellow, orange is believed to be an appetite stimulant.
Orange has two aspects that we see time and time again, pivoting between the material and spiritual worlds, which is not surprising given that the color itself is a balance between red and yellow. As such, it represents the second chakra, the first being red, and the third, yellow.
PINK
Femininity, innocence, good health, love, patience.
Pink is the ultimate feminine color, being flirty, girlish, and innocent at the same time. Pale pink is used as the symbol for a baby girl, just as pale blue is used for baby boys. This feminine angle is why the color pink has been adopted as a symbol of gay pride. Pink is the color of universal, unconditional love.
PURPLE
Royalty and pomp; power, wealth, majesty.
Purple, or indigo, is the color associated with the sixth chakra. Since it was first discovered, purple has been the color of choice to denote wealth and power. Emperors, kings, and the more powerful members of the clergy—such as bishops—choose the colour as a way of defining their status. This is because the dye itself was originally available from one source and one source only; the secretions of a certain gland of an unfortunate sea snail called the Murex brandaris. Therefore, purple was extremely costly to produce and strictly the color of those who could afford it, since the dye itself was more expensive even than gold. The most popular shade of the color is called Tyrian Purple (named for the city of Tyre, where it was manufactured).
RED
Vitality and life-force; fire, the Sun, the South; blood; good luck and prosperity; power and authority; masculine energy; war and anger; passion, energy, sexuality.
One of the three primary colors, bright red pops out of whatever environment it happens to be in and grabs our attention more than any other color. Moreover, it is the first actual color that is seen by babies.
SAFFRON
Spirituality, holiness, good fortune.
Named after the saffron crocuses whose stigmas create the color, the harvesting of these delicate plant parts is a labor-intensive and time-critical matter and so the actual dye is costly to produce.
VIOLET
Knowledge and intelligence; piety, sobriety, humility, temperance; peace and spirituality.
Violet is the color associated with the seventh chakra. There are many shades of violet ranging from ethereal pale shades through to the darker mauve, considered the only color acceptable as a relief from the relentless strict mourning convention of black and gray in Victorian times. Violet is a combination of red and blue, and its association with temperance is indicated in some Tarot suits.
The humble qualities of violet as a color come from the flower. The tiny violet grows close to the ground, hidden modestly in among the grass, yet noticeable because of its striking color.
WHITE
Purity, virginity; death and rebirth, a beginning and an end; in the Far East, mourning.
White is both the absence of any color and the sum of all colors together, so in a sense it can mean everything or nothing. This combination of all colors has given white the name of the “many-colored lotus” in Buddhist teachings.
YELLOW
The Sun; power, authority; the intellect and intuition; goodness; light, life, truth, immortality; endurance; the Empire and fertility [China]; cowardice, treachery.
Yellow is one of the three primary colors and is related to the third chakra which lives in the region of the solar plexus. This is apt, since yellow, like red and orange, is one of the Sun colors. It could be argued that yellow is the most dazzling of the three, so the association makes good sense.
Because leaves turn yellow and then to black with the onset of fall, in several places, including Ancient Egypt, yellow is a color of mourning. A yellow cross was painted on doors as a sign of the plague, possibly for the same reasons, and even today yellow marks off a quarantined area.

— HOMECOMING | SATORU GOJO
wc: 1.1k
cw: moving in together, implied childhood trauma/abuse, comfort/fluff, light descriptions of sex, established relationship, nervous reader.
author’s note: doing a little draft clearing <3
Moving in together managed to show all kinds of sides to Satoru’s girlfriend of almost two years. You planned every room, insisting on a theme for each to make it ‘fun’—which Satoru loved. His childhood had been nothing but sterile decor, too much white, or light beige, but you wanted cosy and he was completely onboard.
Warm lights and plants made everything seem closer and cosier, rendering the 360 penthouse windows mere spectators.
It felt as if every decision you made was done carefully, so you could fill every space with love and prepare it for the memories you would make together. As it came together it made Satoru’s gut pull with an unexpected feeling, walking into each room was like walking through the great mysteries of your mind, and embrace of your heart.
It made him realise that he was really starting his life with you, so he’d pick you up and spin you around with every step of progress.
You too saw different sides to Satoru, like when he insisted on driving to the only store who had the paint you wanted 60 miles away before the final one was gone. When he didn’t realise how rich he really was when getting an interior decorator isn’t the first thing you arrange, but when you tell him “I want it to be ours” he pulls you in a for a kiss and whispers, “anything you want.”
The next day when you’re shopping for bed sheets and you pick up some ones you think he might like, but he clicks and then softly hums, “Babe, they’re recycled polyester,” as he compares two paint splotches with one eye cocked shut.
Your mouth parts in surprise, “H-how can you tell-“
He sighs into a smile, cocking a brow at you, “Aren’t they?”
He was right.
But it’s the first week of living together that completely blindsides Satoru. When you sleep in one morning and he catches you walking almost silently around the apartment, afraid to make noise, afraid to exist.
He’s almost perplexed, frowning with his thumb to his chin, wondering if he should even call your name in case he startles you. You knock into a piece of furniture and your eyes widen like this is it, hell is about to break loose. Your breath quickens and you hurriedly realign it, before carrying on with quietened and now shaky movements.
The sight pulls on his heart, no—tugs on it until it feels like it’s not cemented in his chest. What had your first home been like? He needed you to know that this one was nowhere near the same, so he stops peeking in the doorway and says your name softly to get your attention.
But you still startle, yelping but then trying to laugh it off. But your palm is glued to your chest and your eyes are wide. He says your name softly, once more. You swallow and nod. When he says it a second time you draw closer, footsteps so soft he barely hears them, he feels like he’s coaxing an injured animal, suddenly wondering if his tall, broad frame is too overwhelming.
But then you place your hands on his forearms, stroking the veins that rest there, and press your cheek into his chest. “Hello,” you murmur in apology. He frowns, carefully wrapping his arms around your waist.
You hold onto him like somebody is trying to pry you apart. The sensation that erupts in his gut is so consuming, that he rocks you to keep himself together too.
You stay like that for a long time. Every squeeze and gentle caress carries silent words like, “You’re safe.”
But still, Satoru doesn’t ask. He tries not to ask you too many questions about anything you do in the apartment.
One morning after an especially late night, your shared laughter rings through the kitchen, Satoru’s whipping up a compote of berries for the plates of pancakes you’re arranging when you accidentally swipe your glass of orange juice.
Satoru startles so little it’s almost imperceptible, but your hands fly to your ears and you’re so stricken by the sight you look like you might just collapse. “I’m so sorry,” you chant, ducking to grab the shards of the broken glass.
But Satoru’s already leaning over and grabbing you, “It’s okay,” he says firmly, and you worry so much that he sounds upset. He’s not upset with you, he’s upset with how you have been failed.
He sits you carefully on the couch and kneels below you, you immediately cover your face with your hands. “Give me a moment.”
You sit curled up on the large pink couch, sinking into the array of blankets and pillows Satoru keeps arranged. He hums little songs to himself as he cleans away the mess, and before you know it he’s cuddling up beside you with one plate of pancakes instead of two.
He leans over and kisses your forehead, and says, “Let’s share?”
You nod silently and he makes a triumphant “hmph” sound, carefully cutting into the pancakes and bringing the heaped spoonful to your lips.
As you take the first bite, so warm, and fluffy and tasty it makes you feel so cared for your eyes grow glassy. Satoru pretends not to notice, humming to Chet Baker’s Let’s get lost, playing on the vinyl in the kitchen.
With every other bite he has one too, humming in content as he leaves the plate on the coffee table and helps you clamber onto his lap. “Thank you, Satoru.”
He cups your cheek and then kisses the tip of your nose, “It’s okay, sweetness…” His voice trails away, staring at you like you’re simultaneously the most bewitching and confusing thing he’s ever seen. “How can I help?”
You dither for a moment, reaching for his hand just to anxiously drum your fingers against it. “Just keep being you.”
Your words seem to reassure him. They reassure him to softly push your back against the couch and spread your thighs. He settles there like his true home is your body and not the place you’re even in, he takes his time to unravel you, making you burst until he realises he’ll have to get the couch cleaned. He shifts your hair from your eyes, loving you so good that you cry a little from how much pleasure he’s giving you with even the most minimal effort.
From then on, Satoru notices the day that you don’t jolt as he hugs you when he steps into a room, when you don’t flinch at loud sounds or startle when his voice fills the room
He asks you and then you begin to always say; because it’s only you.
He grins, enamoured and content, pulls you into his arms and whispers back. “Exactly, and you’re the safest when you’re with me.

i'm glad the lady in the video mentioned that the paper straws can't be recycled but it's important to mention that it's even MORE pervasive than just the thickness-- any paper or cardboard with oil or other food waste on it is general waste, no exceptions. all that has to be pulled out of the line and thrown in the general waste because you can't wash paper/cardboard.
this was a whole thing here in australia. china stopped taking our recycling during covid bc we're all filthy grots who won't wash the plastics/glass we do put in the recycling too, so that was basically also just general waste that went straight in a tip instead of being recycled.
also, they're still cutting down trees to make the paper to make said straws (and the new wooden cutlery lol) and they aren't always using plantation wood :D
And here we have a classic coward troll in its natural environment, content to snipe and swipe feebly at people it thinks are unworthy of its praise and unable to to fit its narrative. Falling back on old tired insults and slurs that it believes will get a reaction, it attacks without giving a name, hoping to cause distress, strife, and desperate seeking of safe space, which it would joyfully mock despite already being in its very own safe space, as it is a beautiful snowflake on its own unlike us SJWs. It probably writes fanfiction about its own dystopia where everyone gets along and nobody gives it, the troll, any worthy attention.
Notice that I took a screenshot rather than answering directly.
The troll is, of course, referring to my post regarding alternatives to plastic straws and why they are not the best solution for the disabled community, despite being hailed by abled folks. I've gotten over a hundred thousand notes and many of them are repetitive in wondering why many of us disabled folks cannot use straws made of metal, pasta, paper, even silicone.
If you'd like to learn more about this, please click on my tags about straws and the straw ban, or look on YouTube for some excellent videos by disabled people on why the ban on disposible straws hurts the disabled community. If for whatever reason you are unable or unwilling to do those things, I can provide links.
youtube
#my stepdad worked in a recycling sorting plant at one point and so much of what went in was unsuitable for recycling#anyway rinse your glass and plastics before you put them in the recycling it's the only way it's recyclable#I'M DISABLED TOO BTW THIS IS JUST ME ADDING SOME SUPPORTING EVIDENCE AS TO WHY THE PLASTIC BANS ARE FEELGOOD BULLSHIT#THAT DON'T REALLY FIX ANYTHING

Examples of sand from Earth magic Recycling
We sell all the way from less than an ounce to a ton, in five sizes from silica powder to chunks that are maybe 1/4 inch thick. It comes out of the machine used to process completely save and tumbled.
Most common sizes are 8oz 3lb and 10lb for every day use. It can be added to house plants as ground cover or mixed with soil for aeration. You can also use it for crafts as a natural glitter substitute (it is messy tho). As someone recommended it can be used in aquariums but it does need to be washed before adding animals. In the second size we over it's comparable to beach sand so could be good for reptiles or burrowing animals so long as they do not eat sand..
In larger quantities it can be used as mulch or ground cover. A couple sandbags (50lbs each) could be put to use as ground fill for patios or walkways. Here locally it's going to the city as trail sand soon.
Please take a look at our website and see if recycled sand is for you.

So, Solarpunk Aesthetic Week #4 is approaching, so it's time for sharing my plans on what I want to do during it 🤗
Unsurprising to everyone, the first one is crochet. What will I crochet? I don't know. Vibes will tell, but I do have a few projects like a granny square weekender bag, mittens, wrist warmers, shoe insoles, etc, so probably some of them.
Kinda related, but some of my "finished" projects require some tweaking, redoing and finishing (I hate weaving in the yarn ends...)
I also have some winter clothing sewing I need to do at some point
Mending. So much mending. All the mending.
I JUST received "Glass and Gardens: Solarpunk Winters" -book, so I will be reading it. I also want to make a custom bookmark for it and was thinking I could paint it after some of the stories
I'm trying to get some work done on my polarpunk story. Writing, if I can, but at least some plotting and world building, perhaps even some concept art!
Related partially to the above, I have a few Polarpunk buildings I want to do on Sims 4, a couple of them related to the story, like the main character's trailer home and some of the buildings in the village xe ends up in
If the weather permits and I have the opportunity, I want to try some "snow graffitis"
I should FINALLY get the permission to use my balcony some time next week and I planned on starting to turn it into sort of an extra room. Maybe I put my recycling in there? I also try to get a thermometer so I can start monitoring how cold it gets in there, so I can better figure out what plants I can overwinter next year
As always, this isn't a definite list. Maybe I do not do something listed and/or do something I didn't think now. Either way, it's okay 🤗

hello >-<
so i have this idea
hobie is a punk musician right? what if he kinda like this artist (their work and all) but the artist is a anon so he got no idea who it was but he knows their art style by heart
he would go to art galleries that will feature the artist
he would even go to the extent of buying a print or two
he would also ask for a commission from the artist
but he would do all of it in incognito (he’s like an idol idoling his idol from the fake acc to ask for comms to disguises just to go to the gallery)
little did he know his fav artist/reader is also a big fan of his band
how would they meet??
(sorry if it’s to long or kinda hard to understand, thank youuu have a wonderful day)

You have no idea how much I loved this. I kinda projected myself (like I’ve honestly been in all of my hobie fanfics, but bcs I too, am a punk and do art occasionally) my eco-punk tendencies keep showing, and I’m honestly not gonna stop anytime soon (as you can tell from the constant mention of plants in my writing). This took me forever but I’ve been hella busy 😭
I’ll perhaps do a second part of this
WC: 1.2K or something.
Art is Freedom — Hobie x GN!Reader
"Art is Freedom" was the signature of the anonymous artist Hobie desired to meet. There was something about their art that simply fascinated him. From murals made out with plants, to your standard mural with spray paint. In galleries, this same artist did installations with all sorts of recycled materials. From newspaper, cardboard, paper, sometimes even stuff like aluminium and glass. Others screen printing on recycled fabric and old shirts, and most recently digital art, with the option of buying prints.
What Hobie liked about this artist was how cold and straightforward could they be with their art to express their thoughts and feelings. With a strong commentary on environmentalism. Also very graphic art talking about feminism and domestic violence. He loved the passion put into these pieces, he gawked at the raw energy expiring from the art pieces.
However, tracking them down was particularly hard. They were good at covering up their tracks. Although Hobie knew what that was like, so he started thinking in a similar way this anonymous artist would do. Sometimes feeling guilty for wanting to uncover this artist’s identity, he wouldn’t like it if someone was waiting for him to make a mistake at covering his tracks and found out who he was. But at the same time, he genuinely wanted to meet this person, have a talk with them, sure that Spider-Man and this artist would get along very well.
One fortuitous day, at the art gallery Hobie liked to frequent, there was a new exposition. This one was a photography show. It was the first time this artist showcased pictures. The theme was punk. And most of the photos were from concerts. Spider-Man was even in most of them. Not only was this artist a fan of his band, but from the pictures, Hobie was able to get an idea of who this artist was.
The group of hardcore punks who always showed up to his concerts, art shows, or were wrecking havoc during manifestations, was for the most part the same crowd. Some faces and even names became familiar not only to him but to everyone else.
And you had a face easy to recognise. You had a reputation for always being in the middle of the mosh pit, jamming and jumping like everybody else. However, you were taking pics. Right in the middle of the mosh, you managed to take the best pictures from the stage and the crowd. How did you manage to take those pics while getting out, not only yourself but your camera intact? It was a mystery many people liked to think about.
Hobie had seen you at almost every gig. And he’d seen the magnificent work you did with the photos. However, for the two years he’s been following this anonymous artist, he’d never seen photos. However, for the three or four years you’ve been following his band, he’d seen you in the crowd and seeing your work.
And now standing in front of your exposition, he could clearly identify the peculiar style of the pictures. Those pictures clearly were taken from the depths of a mosh pit. And keeping cameras intact and photos this good of a mosh pit could only be you.
His eyes widened at the realisation. He knew you all along, and had been watching your work from afar for so long. He didn’t personally know you, but he’d seen you around so much to think you were a cool lad, the pins on your jacket were rad, and that you had good taste in music. And of course, he thought you were a talented photographer.
But now that he’d put two and two together, not only were you a magnificent photographer, but an overall artist. The respect and admiration he felt for you duplicated, as he’d thought he was admiring at two different artist while it was actually one and the same.
“Oh! Look at these!” Some people in the gallery said as they neared the pictures and paid close attention to them. “Dude, this pics are sick! Kinda like the ones you always take!”
He diverted his gaze and saw a couple of people leaning closer to take in the details, and a third person wearing a hoodie. Hands hidden in the pouch and hood over their head.
“They’re pretty good,”
Hobie raised an eyebrow as he paced around the gallery, trying to get closer, wondering if it could be you underneath that hoodie.
As he got closer, pretending to glance at the pictures, he saw you from the corner of his eyes and smirked. Your poker face was actually very good, but he could see right through it.
“You think the artist knows how meaningful their art is to others?” Hobie said in a low voice as he glanced at you.
“They better! They’re fucking awesome!” One of your friends said, clueless of what Hobie was trying to do.
“I’m sure they’ve got some idea,” You said meeting Hobie’s stare.
“Well, they sure are my favourite artist, I’ll tell you that…” He said confidently. “I’ve seen you around in gigs, haven’t I?”
“Yeah, probably. I’m always around in gigs…” You said shyly.
“Especially Spider-Man! You love that guy!” One of your friends said, as you felt your cheeks warming up slightly.
“Do you?” Hobie asked.
“His style is very unique. And he’s amazing. He’s been a huge inspiration for me,” reluctantly, you admitted.
“Really? That’s cool. I’m Hobie,” His smirk flashed across his face with a slight arrogant yet full of charm.
“Nice meeting you,” You introduced yourself to him, telling him your name. “I like your style…” You said, pulling one of your hands out of the pouch of your hoodie and pointed at his pins.
“Thanks,” He said, repeating your name. “So, you said Spider-Man was an inspiration…”
“I do art sometimes,” You shrugged. “I wish I could live off of it but, it’s hard,”
“The world is so unkind to artist, unless you decide to sell yourself like a whore,”
You looked at Hobie, thinking there was something strangely familiar and yet refreshing of him. He was tall, he was skinny, but definitely looked like the guy you wouldn’t want to get in a fight with. And yet, he didn’t look all that intimidating. In fact, you felt curious.
“Yeah, pretty much…” You agreed.
“Wanna go for a beer sometime?”
It was hard for you not to smirk as you looked away. Your friends now further away, having read the room and left you alone with Hobie.
“Excuse me?” You armed yourself with courage to look back at him and meet his stare, his eyes a lighter shade of brown compared to the rest of his skin. He was gorgeous, you thought.
“You seem like a pretty interesting person, I’d like to know you better and know a bit more about the art you make, if that’s okay of course…” He shrugged, nonchalantly, able to read your slightly shy and awkward demeanour.
“Do I know you?” You asked.
Hobie chuckled softly. Knowing exactly what you meant, wondering if you were able to somehow relate him to Spider-Man already.
“Yeah, I introduced myself two minutes ago,” he teased, as you chuckled and rolled your eyes playfully.
“No—I me-mean yeah…” You giggled “But…Before that?”
Hobie shrugged.
“Why you ask?”
“I don’t know…” You sighed looking at him curiously, attentively. “Something about you feels oddly familiar…”
“Perhaps,” He shrugged “who knows, there’s only one way to find out…” He winked.
You smirked.
“Later today? At the Hayfield?” You said, naming your favourite bar, agreeing to his invitation.
“Someone likes artisan beer,” Hobie pointed out with an approving nod.
“Isn’t that the best kind of beer?” This time, you shrugged nonchalantly “Besides, Hayfield supports all the local beer producers and amateurs too”
“Nice. See you then,” Hobie said. “9 works for you?”
“9 it is” You smirked, feeling your chest stirring slightly.
“Nice meeting ya” He said turning around, with a triumphant smirk.
“Nice meeting you too…”
