I, uhhhh, took a few days of intense work to make that for an art contest. The full piece is ~10k x 7k pixels, never worked on something that big, will seriously reconsider next time I've got such a stupid idea lmao

Solar engineer uniforms (feat. Grace) for my comic!
The field work getup is gold since it reflects the most UV radiation (and is absolutely unbearable to wear). The designs are a combo of real world welding and hot-temp safety equipment and some guesswork on my part.

Some visible mending I did on the back of a t-shirt and my old rucksack :)
I'm still not that good at sewing, but I quite like how it turned out.

I think there's something to be said that saying the words "Deny, Defend, Depose, you're next" to an insurance sales rep can get you arrested for 'threats of mass homicide' or whatever with a threat of 15 years in prison
But when I was a manager in a fast food restaurant I've had customers throw food at me, demand for my personal phone number with an added threat of "Well I'll just have to FIND it", customers charging past the front counter to physically intimidate me and my coworkers, screaming and swearing, demands to know what time I get out of work, demands to know when my manager would be at work as a threat, people sitting in their car waiting for me to finish closing because they were angry at me, causing me to stay in the office watching the camera waiting for them to drive away...
But none of those incidents are arrest-able offenses, not one, any time I called the cops on any customer I would just hear excuses like " "there isn't anything illegal about calling a restaurant", that nothing physical happened and therefore there's nothing they could do, to call back and let them know if anything else happens
Idk, just think it's A TEENY TINY BIT ODD
Cop in the news goes "words have consequences" as if people don't berate and threaten fast food and retail workers every day

they're trying to make an example out of Luigi Mangione and Briana Boston on a massive scale. the punishments are extreme and over the top. the humiliation, dehuminanization and slander is in full force. it's nowhere near how the justice system and the media treat suspects of far more heinous crimes. we've been told for decades that mass shooters who slaughter dozens of innocent people are just loners who struggle with mental health. the message is clear: the lives of regular people are expendable and the murderers who take those lives are deserving of compassion. the lives of billionaires are precious and holy, those who even SPEAK about deposing them are deserving of the full force of the law: they want to put Briana Boston in prison for 15 years. those who have the balls to do it get laid bare to the world and treated as subhuman: we know from other inmates that Luigi's living conditions are horrible, the police have released pictures of him where he's clearly urinated on himself in a sick effort to humiliate him. guilty or not he's a hero for even enduring that treatment.

So even though this is more spring/summer like, I’ve been thinking Bout apartments. There’s a video saying that four stories is the maximum where people can still feel a part of the street as you can still hear the goings on and stuff. And if you have a courtyard inside there’s a space of “oh let’s be a bit more quiet”. So I was thinking that there could be wildflowers, some bushes and trees outside the apartment that people could walk by and grab whatever fruit that’s growing and ripe. While inside the courtyard is a bit more maintained for the folks who have pets and kids who wanna run around. And on the roof there’s solar panels angled for snow and rain to fall off. Perhaps underneath that solar panels the roof has a community garden for the people in the apartments. Probably use rainwater and snowmelt for the apartments, and then use grey water for the plants in the courtyard. Maybe have a bio system for black water treatment? Each apartment has a balcony, and they can have sun shades for the windows that’s in the direct line of the sun in the summer to help with the passive cooling and heating. And underneath there’s a good sturdy basement for things such as tornadoes or just plain ol’ get togethers. Maybe that can be where the community kitchen could be too. I’m also thinking that each doorway is tall enough for someone who’s like 6’5” could comfortably walk through while the doorways, hallways, and walkways are large enough for someone who’s using the world’s biggest wheelchair could confidently do a u-turn in. Some apartments are formatted for wheelchair users while every unit has accessibility features like a seat in the shower you can put up or down or a bathtub you can easily get in and out. And yes the elevator will have braille as well as the signs for each apartment. Maybe the building materials will be hempcrete. Ideally reusable materials from old buildings and the like to give them new life. I’d also like to ensure the building is good against floods, tornadoes, fire, earthquakes, and the like. Pretty sure that’s what everyone wants to do lol.
Just some ideas I’ve been thinking about. Been dreaming on making an Solarpunk apartment building. Made a sketch to kinda get a feel for what I want.

Full names and details of every man who was convicted of raping Gisèle Pelicot. The list includes 50 men who could be identified, besides Gisèle's husband, ranging in age from 27 to 74. Among them are a firefighter, a journalist, a nurse, a construction worker, and a prison guard. Most have families of their own, and only about half had previous convictions.

Work in progress shot of the shirt I've been hand sewing 😁
There's still A LOT of work to be done, so I won't finish it during the rest of the Aesthetic Week, especially since I plan on doing some embroidering, but I've gotten the bulk of the work already done and you can already see what kind of shirt I had in mind 🥰
I want to add some more modern touches, because this isn't supposed to be a historical re-enaction, but I haven't figured that out yet :P

In a truck stop bathroom washing my hands today and 2 boys, looked about 5 and 9, came in with their little sister who looked maybe 2. The following whispered conversation made my entire day
"We have to wait, there's a lady in here!"
"That's not a lady, he has a mustache! We can be in here!"
"Some ladies have mustaches! And she has boobs!"
"Well some guys have boobs! Like Uncle Jake!"
"Uncle Jake is fat!"
At this point I could not contain a chuckle and both whirled around with identical looks of panic on their faces. I smiled and said "it's alright for you guys to be in here so your sister has help, don't worry. And I'm both! That's why I have boobs and a mustache. Some folks are just built that way"
(In unison) "Ooooooh!"
(older boy) "So do you use Sir or Ma'am or both?"
"Both, but I prefer Sir"
"Cool! Well thanks Sir! We have to help our sister now!"
This was in a small town country truck stop and both boys had "Murica" type stuff on and neither of them had any issue at all with these concepts. Their mom approached me while I was in line about 10 minutes later and apologized for them bothering me in the bathroom (they had told her about the interaction) and she and I had a lovely little chat too. I got to introduce her to the term "intersex" and her reply was "I think I've heard of that before! I didn't know that was the word for it. Amazing how many different ways God can make people!"
Sometimes the world is good. More often than you might think, if you give it a chance. It's not all bad loves <3

i think a really fun solarpunk winter diy could be tin can lanterns. you strip the label from a used can and fill it with water and freeze it. then you use a hammer and nail to poke holes and make shapes and patterns, let the ice melt, and put little tea lights in there. along the same train of thought you can reuse cans or glasses to try basic candlemaking using old crayons or beeswax and a set of candlewicks.
winter is the dry season for me so if i could transport wood pallets i would totally make a raised bed... for people where its wet then rather than outright carpentry i feel like stick wreaths could be cool, or make chains of them to hang up- any sort of twig crafts.
Ooh yeah these are all cool ideas!! You could also maybe paint the cans fun colors after!
You could also make benches out of the pallets as well! Gosh this is making me want to learn more crafts!!!
#my dad and I once made something similar for end of the summer party!#the method we used was... bit different tho#but it worked and it was so pretty in the darkness!#and also kept people from falling into the lake :D#solarpunk aesthetic week
