Girl of My Dreams (1927)
Little White Lies (1948)
“Most people stayed up late and got drunk with him and thought they were seeing John. You never saw John! Only through a few chinks in his armour did I ever see him because the armour was so tough. John was always on the surface tough, tough, tough.’ There were contradictions in Paul’s partner that gave him away, however. ‘He didn’t like many musicals, although he enjoyed West Side Story. Yet one of his favourite songs was “Girl of My Dreams”. And he loved “Little White Lies”. He also went on to write the lullaby ‘Goodnight,’ which Ringo sang. That side of John he’d never dare show, except in very rare moments.“ - Paul McCartney .

03: Request
It isn't like Lucille wanted to do this but she doesn't have a choice but to give in to the request of her dearest friend.
"Come and lets go watch the livestreaming Monza grand prix with me." Her dearest friend, Julia told her.
Lucille knew better, her friend was trying to set her up on a date with a fellow F1 fan.
"Fine but only if you buy the food and drink." She answered her friend with a teasing smile.
"Ugh fine!" Her friend has nothing to say or else Lucille would have backed out.

withlove_lucille updated her story 3mins ago●
It was like a dream watching the Ferrari takes the pole and win a race in Italy.
It feel like she is one of the Tifosis in Monza right now, proudly singing the national anthem while waving the color of rosso corsa.
The feeling of 2019 Monza win just being back and repeated again. It was surreal.
Seeing Charles be so happy at the podium, spraying champagne at the crowd below and smiling ear to ear.
Lucille couldn't help but smile too seeing her favorite driver be so happy despite the tragic of his lovelife.
Indeed, he is the Il predestinato they call him.
Dragging that tractor car across the circuit around 53 laps, she applaud both Charles and Carlos for doing well.
It was a win not only to Charles and Ferrari but to the whole Italy and Ferrari fans.
EARLIER (at the middle of the race)
Lucille sits beside Julia in one of the barcade that hosts the livestreaming for Monza grand prix.
Both of the girls anxiously watch the race alongsidw with the fellow fans.
The fans wearing their team favorite merch while Lucille opts for a Ferrari jacket and Julia for a Ferrari cap.
Julia make herself feel like a supportive WAG making Lucille laugh but supports her best friend.
The last lap actions always gets everyone on the edge of their seats.
But
"The Tifosis are roaring him home! And for the second time in his career! Charles Leclerc is the winner of the Italian Grand Prix!"
The whole barcade shouts in joy and jump from their seat to celebrate a meaningful win for Ferrari and for Charles.
Lucille and Julia hugs each other, happy.
"He won!" Lucille said
"He did!" Julia answered
Proud is an understatement.

"I’m a sucker for the thrills of the heart. It’s a specialty of mine. Breaking my own parts just to piece it all back together. But maybe that’s the whole point. Become absolutely nothing, realize you are everything. Depends en the lens you look through, the lens you anoint. Feel the full range of loving to the infinite corners of the heavens and deep-sea diving to the depths of the pain. I live for the highs, I live for the crush. A reminder of the beating inside my chest, a reminder of the lust. For life. For the medicine I have found in different things. Women. The road. In gods and angels that sing. My family. Strangers. Lips. In bottles of confidence. In the waves of my own hips. In running from hearts I never meant to break. A train wreck you can’t help but watch. Wondering why it’s my favorite role to play. Like Julia Roberts. She’s always been the good girl gone, the one that got away. The unknown makes me nervous, that’s why I’m seared to get attached. to you, to anyone, anything, even myself at that. I don’t know if that’s just fear or my ego talking. ‘Cause what if tomorrow, I’m not what I want and I don’t like what I see. That’s why I like pretending some nights that one of these days, I’ll be doing better, maybe. Sometimes I wanna abandon you, Cari, and other times, I wanna make a home outta you. But like an old friend once said, two things can be true. Maybe I’m not the girl of my dreams, maybe I am. So I dare you to lead me on. Show me what you’re so afraid of. Show me you can. Take me on a journey to the past, present, and future. Through the eras of us. I don’t know much, but what I do know is that it’s one hell of a journey, one hell of a show, one hell of a joyride. In search of the antidote."

My 25 Favorite Films of 2023
It's that time of year again! Here are my top 25 films of 2023.
25. Joy Ride
Following in the footsteps of Bridesmaids and Girls Trip, Joy Ride offers some of the biggest laughs of 2023 proving once again women can be just as raunchy as men. The cast includes up-and-comers Ashley Park, Oscar nominee Stephanie Hsu, and a scene-stealing breakthrough performance from Sherry Cola. Joy Ride marks a strong debut from writer-director Adele Lim.
24. Theater Camp
Anyone who had aspirations of becoming an actor can relate to Theater Camp, a mockumentary about the staff of a theater camp struggling to keep it afloat. Molly Gordon, Ben Platt, and Noah Galvin lead both behind and in front of the camera in this superb comedy that will leave you singing from the rooftops.
23. A Thousand and One
A Thousand and One is a heartbreaking indie film about a mother's desperate effort to form a bond with her estranged son by kidnapping him from the foster care system following her stint in prison. Teyana Taylor packs an emotional punch with her crushing performance with the help of A.V. Rockwell in her feature debut as a writer-director.
22. Thanksgiving
Eli Roth's filmography in horror is a mixed record, but his latest flick Thanksgiving may be his best work yet. Not only is it a solid slasher with great over-the-top killings, its brilliantly hilarious. In a time where horror franchises can be tiresome, Thanksgiving is one that could call for a second or third helping.
21. Somewhere in Queens
TV icon Ray Romano makes his feature directorial debut in the family comedy Somewhere in Queens. He stars as the father of a promising high school basketball player who goes through perhaps desperate means to assure he lands a college scholarship. Joined by the wonderful Laurie Metcalf, Somewhere in Queens has plenty of laughs as well as plenty of heart.
20. Dream Scenario
The remarkable comeback of Nicolas Cage continues with his brilliant performance in Dream Scenario, a dark fantasy horror comedy in which he plays a college professor who inexplicably starts appearing in everyone's dreams, sparking a national phenomenon that will ultimately take a personal toll. Cage balances the absurdity of the situation his character is in with emotional heft that comes with it. This marks Norwegian filmmaker Kristoffer Borgli's first English-language film and based on how well-executed Dream Scenario is, hopefully it won't be his last.
19. The Covenant
Guy Ritchie's latest The Covenant is a heart-pounding war film based on the true story of Sgt. John Kinley's rescue effort of his Afghan interpreter Ahmed. Jake Gyllenhaal and Dar Salim make a perfect duo in this dramatic, suspenseful film that may be Ritchie's strongest work to date.
18. Are You There God? It’s Me, Margaret.
Judy Blume's 1970 adolescent classic Are You There God? It’s Me, Margaret. finally made its way to the big screen this year in the heartwarming coming-of-age tale of a girl's awkward journey from childhood to adulthood as well as the complexities that come from being an interfaith household. Abby Ryder Fortson shines as the titular Margaret in an outstanding performance not often seen from child actors. Also, we need more Rachel McAdams.
17. BlackBerry
Arguably the biggest surprise of 2023, BlackBerry offers some of the best laughs in the comedic retelling of the rise and fall of the iconic BlackBerry device. BlackBerry is a showcase of talent of its star Jay Baruchel, Matt Johnson (who also directed and co-wrote the film), and Glenn Howerton of It's Always Sunny fame, easily giving one of the best on-screen performances of the entire year.
16. You Hurt My Feelings
Writer-director Nicole Holofcener reunites with her Enough Said star Julia Louis-Dreyfus with You Hurt My Feelings, which centers a turbulent chapter in a couple's marriage after a novelist overhears her husband mocking her latest book. The dramedy examines the thought-provoking nuances of how fully honest one actually should be with their spouse (the answer may surprise you!). The greatest strength from Holofcener's latest is how its humor comes naturally from the reality of relationships.
15. Mission: Impossible - Dead Reckoning Part One
Mission: Impossible does the unthinkable in Hollywood: keeping a franchise in top-notch shape. Dead Reckoning Part One, the whopping *seventh* installment of the Ethan Hunt saga, delivers on a compelling plot and incredible action sequences, all of which is cemented by the star power of Tom Cruise, who has carried this spy franchise for nearly 20 years. There have been hints that Dead Reckoning may be the beginning of the end for Mission: Impossible, and if that's the case, it's going out with a bang.
14. Talk to Me
The best horror movie of 2023, Talk to Me is a chilling film about a group of teenager's ill-fated decision of doing a viral challenge of interacting with the dead, only to mistakenly leave the portal open between the living and the spirit world. What makes Talk to Me work is the family drama at the core of the film and the powerful performance from its troubled heroine Sophie Wilde.
13. Sisu
Inglorious Basterds meets Mad Max: Fury Road meets John Wick, Sisu is a WWII-era revenge action flick about a gold prospector's quest to retrieve the gold that was stolen from him from a group of Nazis. Full of brutal, bloody fight sequences with a twisted sense of humor, Sisu is one helluva ride.
12. Creed III
Creed III is a throwback to the era where Hollywood blockbusters were able to provide complete satisfaction. The latest installment of the Rocky spin-off franchise marked the strong directorial debut of its star Michael B. Jordan and also may have sadly marked the final film of the incredibly talented Jonathan Majors, whose recent assault conviction may be a knockout punch to an otherwise booming career.
11. May December
Often having vibes of a soap opera, Todd Haynes' May December is a compelling and at times disturbing film of an actress (played by Natalie Portman) who shadows the woman she's depicting in a film (played by Julianne Moore) famous for her 90s love affair with a then 13-year-old, who later became her husband. Despite the powerhouse performances from the two Oscar winners, the film really belongs to rising star Charles Melton, whose character finally comes to grips with the trauma he unknowingly endured as a child. And Melton's performance is among 2023's best.
10. Anatomy of a Fall
We don't often get great courtroom dramatic thrillers these days which is why Anatomy of a Fall really stands out. German actress Sandra Hüller gives a breakthrough performance as a wife and mother who becomes the prime suspect in what authorities believe is the murder of her husband, who had fallen to his death from the attic window. With plenty of twists and turns, Anatomy of a Fall will keep viewers guessing throughout.
9. Maestro
Not only does Bradley Cooper give the performance of his career, he has also shown his ability to direct is no fluke. Maestro, a biopic that spotlights the personal drama of legendary composer Leonard Bernstein, is a beautifully-shot, well-acted film that solidifies Cooper as one of Hollywood's newest talented filmmakers.
8. Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse
One would assume that a Spider-Man cartoon would solely be geared towards children but Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse is such a sophisticated film between its complex plot and the remarkable animation that are a continuation from its 2018 Into the Spider-Verse predecessor. Between a strong voice cast, an amazing score and a brilliant cliffhanger, Across the Spider-Verse was the shining gem of the many superhero duds 2023 had to offer.
7. Killers of the Flower Moon
At 81-years-old, legendary director Martin Scorsese hasn't lost his step with Killers of the Flower Moon, his best film in at least a decade. The crime drama is based on a true story on the 1920s murders of members of Osage Nation and its ties to the marriage Ernest Burkhart and Mollie Kyle, played by the reliably gifted Leonardo DiCaprio and powerful newcomer Lily Gladstone.
6. Saltburn
Following her strong debut with 2020's Promising Young Woman, filmmaker Emerald Fennell makes a valiant return with her twisted comedic psychological drama Saltburn, which surrounds an Oxford student who is quickly embraced by the wealthy family of a classmate and the jarring fallout as a result. Barry Keoghan (The Banshees of Irisherin, Dunkirk) proves he's more than capable of being the leading man and is joined by rich ensemble including Rosamund Pike, Jacob Elordi, Richard E. Grant and Carey Mulligan. With stunning visuals and some of the most shocking things you'll see onscreen in 2023, Saltburn is a stirring work of art.
5. The Holdovers
It's been a long time since a new Christmas movie can live up to beloved holiday classics and Alexander Payne makes the closest effort with The Holdovers, a 1970-set dramedy about a miserable teacher at a boys academy who is stuck essentially babysitting the "holdover" students who didn't go home for the holidays. Joining the always-brilliant Paul Giamatti is newcomer Dominic Sessa as his troublesome student and Da'Vine Joy Randolph, who gives a powerful Oscar-worthy performance as the cook mourning over the loss of her son. The Holdovers is the perfect film to warm your heart over the holidays this year and every year going forward.
4. Past Lives
Perhaps one of the more unsung heroes of 2023 cinema, Past Lives is a touching story about love and what if. Greta Lee stars in a breakout role as a married woman who rekindles a relationship with a childhood friend from South Korea but rather than going down the typical "will they, won't they" or "love triangle" paths this film easily could've taken, Past Lives delves into the emotional complexities with such tenderness that only writer/director Celine Song could've told (the film is semi-autobiographical).
3. Oppenheimer
If anyone knows how to make a biopic an epic, it's Christopher Nolan. Oppenheimer is essentially two films rolled into one- a tick-tock thriller about the creation of the atomic bomb as well as a political drama that J. Robert Oppenheimer endured. Cillian Murphy gives the performance of his career and leads a gigantic ensemble cast in a film that despite its 3-hour running time goes by fast. And while Barbie may have won the box office battle, Oppenheimer certain won the war in more ways than one.
2. Polite Society
Polite Society is a brilliant action comedy following an aspiring stuntwoman who believes her sister is marrying into a sinister family. In the style of a Tarantino movie, up-and-coming filmmaker Nida Manzoor makes a strong feature debut that is the epitome of a fun popcorn movie, which have been in short supply in recent years.
Poor Things
Yorgos Lanthimos has quickly risen as of the strongest filmmakers of this generation, proving so once again with his latest film Poor Things. Emma Stone gives an Oscar-worthy performance as a woman brought back to life who embarks on a journey of self-discovery and autonomy and is accompanied by an excellent supporting cast. Like a modern-day Tim Burton, Lanthimos was able to create a mesmerizing universe with incredible production design, a whimsical music score, and stunning cinematography. Going to the movies is meant to be an escape, and Poor Things perfectly encapsulates that.

HSMTMTS season 4 was the finale season, but at first more season were to come.
Tim Federle, creator of the show, said that if there were another season, they wanted to do The Greatest Showman.
He said that he saw Ricky and Gina as Zack and Zendaya's characters (Phillip and Anne), and Jet as Hugh Jackman's (P.T Barnum).
With that in mind, I was wondering what could have been the rest of the casting:
I was thinking Kourtney as Charity, Barnum's wife. I know that she doesn't have the biggest role of the movie, but she got to sing A Million Dreams, and Kourtney as Jet's wife would make sense considering they would probably be dating.
After that, it's hard to make a choice, especially for Rebecca Ferguson and Keala Settle's characters. But I feel like Ashlyn should be Lettie Lutz (the beard woman from the circus) and Emmy should be Jenny Lindt (The Singer).
The reasons why are that Julia is a theater kid from the beginning, she was in the production of Into The Woods in Broadway as Red Riding Hood. The musical number This Is Me is lead by a very powerful singer, and it really feels like Broadway. I also feel like it would maybe make a parallel with Ashlyn's queer story. She's now with Maddox and her friends know that she's bi, but I think I could see an arc of her doubting of what to say to other people, like her parents.
Lettie is a character who is different from the others, and in this number she, and everyone, claim their difference to the world. They are proud of who they are. And maybe it could help Ashlyn who's struggling about what to say and what people will think of her.
Now about Emmy. She's young, the youngest of the kids, so it could be logical to make her one of P.T and Charity's daughters, and they could create a musical number for one of them, but I feel like she would kill it as Jenny. The character is not easy to interpret, especially for a young girl, but Liamani is very talented and her voice is amazing. She killed 'Dreams Don't Die' (which is my favorite song of the last season), and she was Taylor who's an important character in HSM even though she doesn't sing that much. I really think she could handle it, and be amazing. Liamani has a very powerful voice, she proved that she can go very high and I have no doubt that she would kill Never Enough.
I know there's Dani too and she could be a great Jenny, but I think Emmy deserves this role. Dani could be someone in the circus.
After that, there are the boys. So Carlos, Big Red, Seb. I feel like Seb and Big Red wouldn't have a big role in the musical too, because the actors aren't part of the main cast. So they both could be characters in the circus. One could be Anne's brother, and the other I don't really know, they could find someone. For now I only think of the half dwarf man, but I don't know if they could change the character as he's based on a person who existed.
And for Carlos I don't know. Maybe the father of P.T Barnum or Charity? I don't remember much of P.T's father, but I remember Charity's didn't approved the relationship between P.T and his daughter. Maybe he could have a musical number where he expresses why he doesn't want him? And Carlos would obviously be the choreographer, and I feel like it would be more work than HSM 3.
Maddox won't be in the show as we know she prefers to be backstage.
And you, what do you think the casting could have been ?

Beauty & the Bieber (Unexpected Musical) — PattyCake Productions music video
youtube
Continuing their signature style of combining childhood classics with modern music, the PattyCake guys decided to tackle a tale as old as time for their next project. In addition to Justin Bieber's melodies and the musical motifs from the 1991 animated film, they also included elements from the forthcoming 2017 live action remake.
Details:
title: Unexpected Musicals — Beauty and the Bieber
performers: Jamie Fritz (Belle); Earl Elkins, Jr. (Beast); E. Michael Evans (Gaston); Joey D'Angelo-LaJoie (LaFou); Alexander Browne (Lumiere); Brad Pettitt (Prince Adam); Leah Lowman (village girls); Anita Wakim (Enchantress)
original songs / performers: [0:15] "I'll Show You" by Justin Bieber; [0:53] "Baby" by Justin Bieber, feat. Ludacris; [1:09] "Love Yourself" by Justin Bieber; [1:21] "Never Say Never" by Justin Bieber, feat. Jaden; [2:12] "Boyfriend" by Justin Bieber; [2:36] "Company" by Justin Bieber; [3:30] "Beauty and a Beat" by Justin Bieber, feat. Nicki Minaj; [4:10] "Sorry" by Justin Bieber; [4:22] "Let Me Love You" by DJ Snake, feat. Justin Bieber; [4:44] "Cold Water" by Major Lazer, feat. Justin Bieber & MØ
written by: "I'll Show You" by Justin Bieber, Michael "BloodPop" Tucker, Sonny "Skrillex" Moore, Theron "Neff-U" Feemster, & Joshua Gudwin; "Baby" by Justin Bieber, Christopher "Tricky" Stewart, Terius "The-Dream" Nash, Christopher "Ludacris" Bridges, & Christina Milian; "Love Yourself" by Justin Bieber, Benjamin "Benny Blanco" Levin, & Ed Sheeran; "Never Say Never" by Adam "Messy" Messinger, Nasri Atweh, Thaddis "Kuk" Harrell, Jaden Smith, Omarr Rambert, & Justin Bieber; "Boyfriend" by Mike Posner, Mason Levy, Matthew "Blackbear" Musto, & Justin Bieber; "Company" by Justin Bieber, Andreas Schuller, James Wong, Leroy Clampitt, Jason "Poo Bear" Boyd, James "JHart" Abrahart, & Thomas Troelsen; "Beauty and a Beat" by Max Martin, Anton "Zedd" Zaslavski, Savan Kotecha, & Nicki Minaj; "Sorry" by Justin Bieber, Michael "BloodPop" Tucker, Sonny "Skrillex" Moore, Justin Tranter, & Julia Michaels; "Let Me Love You" by William "DJ Snake" Grigahcine, Justin Bieber, Andrew "Watt" Wotman, Ali Tamposi, Brian Lee, & Louis Bell; "Cold Water" by Thomas "Diplo" Pentz, Justin Bieber, Karen Marie "MØ" Ørsted, Benjamin "Benny Blanco" Levin, "King Henry" Allen, Philip "Jr Blender" Meckseper, Ed Sheeran, & Jamie Scott
arranged by: Layne Stein & Tony Wakim
release date: 17 March 2017
My favorite bits:
combining the rhythmic strings and the villagers' greetings from "Belle" with the melody for "I'll Show You"
Belle explicitly giving Gaston the brush-off
the tinkling minor motif from the animated movie as Belle enters the castle
Earl's fantastic growl at the end of "Never Say Never"
LaFou's gleeful fawning over Gaston and dancing on the tables
the sneaky ♫ "May-be" ♫ from "Company" overlapping with the tavern scene and leading into the "Be Our Guest" instrumentation
the Beast's lovely vulnerability during the dinner and dancing
using the crunchy horn motif from "Battle on the Tower" to create menace in this version of "Let Me Love You"
Earl's voice being layered over the final lyrics after the transformation
Trivia:
○ The obvious starting point for this project was Jusin Beiber's "Beauty and a Beat", which Tony and Layne had performed as part of VoicePlay's "Wow! Vol. 1" medley during the 2015 Sing-Off tour, but one song does not a full plot make. The guys delved into his extended catalogue to find songs that fit certain story beats and would blend well with the animated movie's score.
○ This was an incredibly ambtious undertaking. According to the PattyCake guys, preparations took five months, and filming spanned "six long days" (and nights, clearly).
○ All that hard work paid off, though, since they were able to time their YouTube release for the same day that the Emma Watson movie hit theaters.
○ VoicePlay recorded a Beauty and the Beast medley for "Once Upon an Ever After" (2012), their first album with Tony as a member of the group. Excerpts from that arrangement later appeared in their music videos "Be Our Guest", "Aca Top 10 – Disney Sidekicks", and "Aca Top 10 – Disney Villains". They also included "Belle" in their "Aca Top 10 – Broadway" countdown.
○ "Love Yourself" was the first song in VoicePlay's PartWork series, which they started as preparation for Tony leaving the group.
○ Layne occasionally used "Baby" as his interruption at the end of VoicePlay's "Road Trip" medley / comedy sketch.
○ On top of their usual studio work, this production required multiple location shoots:
The outdoor village scenes were filmed at the Casa Feliz museum.
Beast's castle interior was the Ballroom at Church Street, which closed in 2019, and was demolished 2023.
The tavern was an actual bar, the Tap Room at Dubsdread.
○ Between the main cast and dozens of background folks, they needed so many costumes that Tony enlisted his mom Anita to help wrangle them all.
○ There are several of Tony's fellow "Beetlejuice Revue" alumni among the main cast:
Michael (Gaston) played Dracula and Frankenstein's monster.
Joey (LaFou) played Wolfman and Dracula.
Brad (Prince Adam) was a dancer in the final "Mashup" iteration of the show.
○ There are also many friends and family among the background cast and crew, including several cast members from previous Unexpected Musicals. Olivia Adkins and Leah Lowman are among the village crowd as Snow White and Cinderella. Rachel Copeland and Matthew Buckner are in the tavern crowd, but not as their previous characters. Many of the other villagers were clubgoers in "Hocus Heathens".
○ This video got a nice write-up on Huffington Post.

the magicians s2e9
werewolf cage mention !!!!!
q is actively dying and he still finds the best way to be a little bitch MAY I HELP YOU STEAL FROM ME
oh jesus is this the one day more episode
i won't be rude i know it's a fan favorite moment but i guess all i would say is there are other musical moments in this show and i like this one the least. :-)
"rulers done gonna rumble" is such a he would not fucking say that moment
in the great tradition of niffin alice, shadeless julia is sooooooo hot
i love him too but q is so unbelievably selfish for keeping alice imprisoned. it is genuinely horrible to me! he's treating her like a pet, he "doesn't want to live in a world without alice" because it's more important to him that he personally is comforted than that the woman he ostensibly loves is emotionally and intellectually satisfied! sorry q i love you but this is why i didn't get you the first time around!
fen is the best she's so sweet and also very cool
julia kady penny such a dream team so much goddamn fun even when they're only operating at 67% souled
NOT THE FAIRIES PLEASE GOD NO
i love margo's delivery on stuff "do i know about the fairies?" "you, sloth" you get the sense that she can't help being ironic and incredulous even when she's also completely serious and genuinely worried. like magic is real but she still doesn't want to say dumb shit.
"that's not julia, even she knows that" penny they're best bitches. BEST bitches.
wish this scene wasn't very important to the rest of the episode and show anyway small blessings alto margo. another problem margo cannot sing. nor can fen. sorry summer and brittany you are the loves of my life but they shouldn't have done that to you.
jalph's alice voice is making me weep laughing
good lip color on margo
listen i know the baby deal with the fairies is pretty awful i would never deny that. however. fray is a very fun character and i'm looking forward to seeing her.
another point for "too much chemistry:" kady and senator john mulaney
i really hate the eliot-idri storyline sorry to be the most boring girl in the world
JULIA PUSHING Q OUT OF THE WARDS WITH REYNARD IS FUCKING CRAZY HOW DID I FORGET ABOUT THAT
but what is ALSO crazy is q even now even at the risk of his own death REFUSING to liberate alice like it's a feminist issue now
okay now i don't remember but is reynard going to kill the shit out of senator john mulaney
i respect so much kady's ability to see the bigger picture, putting julia in the clean room because she's been too erratic, etc etc etc
KING DADDY FUCKFACE !!!!!!!!!
the one of each marriage clause is so fucked it's the plot equivalent of dumping a bucket of water on a girl you want to see in a wet shirt
i take back the stuff i said about q he's making a really pathetic crying face that's endearing him to me again
otd getting in a really excellent eyebrow raise just before the end there

the bad batch + what romance/rom com movies they watch with you
each of the bad batch x gn!reader
ok first and foremost i really truly believe to the pits of my soul that every single one of these fuckos loves romances and you cannot under any circumstances change my mind
ALSO it’s a gender neutral reader except kinda in echo’s theres like a very brief quote regarding breasts but like i still think even that is pretty gender neutral tbh
so anyway
Hunter: Pretty Woman
this is not the first time that i have publicly declared that i think hunter has a deep rooted connection to the movie pretty woman and it will not be the last
first of all this movie is incredibly soothing to hunters overwhelming savior complex
second of all hunter is literally richard gere (debonaire but emotionally distant gentleman that learns to love) and julia roberts (hooker with a heart of gold) at the same time
he was a little skeptical the first time you put it on but he instantly fell in love with it
the humor, the sensuality, the class divide, the glamour, the unconventional cinderella story of it all. it just really butters his bread
after the first time, when you suggest watching a movie and you pick this one he’ll act very aloof about it (“whatever you want cyar’ika, it doesn’t matter to me”) but secretly he’s really really happy bc it’s one of his favorites (you def know this and def pick it more often)
he absolutely hates the scene when stucky the lawyer hits vivian. like it doesn’t matter how many times he watches it he will fully turn his head away from the screen and say “I don’t like this part” and when it’s over he nuzzles a little closer into you and very tenderly kisses your forehead
he loves the soundtrack too. like he fully exposes how much he likes the movie when you catch him singing or humming “pretty woman” or “it must have been love” absently to himself (you kept it to yourself for a while but eventually you just had to tease him about it. he just smiled a little sheepishly and admitted he liked the songs before promptly changing the subject)
hunter also lowkey definitely wants to recreate the ending where richard gere shows up to her apartment in the white limo with you bc he thinks it’s such a sweet gesture and he wants to treat you like royalty
Crosshair: 10 Things I Hate About You
if there’s one thing about crosshair it’s that he’s a sucker for the enemies to lovers genre
maybe its just him projecting (spoiler alert it most certainly is) but he really enjoys watching the drama conflama of a miserable bastard be tricked into love
and really that’s the true essence of 10 Things I Hate About You
he will grumble and bitch and moan about not wanting to watch a ‘chick flick’ when you put it on, but 15 minutes in and he’s hooked
he has strong negative opinions on literally every single character except for kat and patrick
(crosshair really really wants to think he’s patrick but when it comes down to it he is katarina stratford in every single possible way)
he doesn’t say a word throughout the entire movie but you can tell when he’s annoyed at like bianca or cameron or joey bc he will openly scoff at them
will absolutely hum along in your ear during the “can’t take my eyes off you” scene and make out with you during the paintball scene
(seriously he wants to be patrick verona so bad)
when it’s over and you ask him what he thought he’ll roll his eyes and say “i guess it could have been worse” but his little smirk let’s you know he enjoyed it a lot more than he’s willing to admit
Tech: 50 Shades of Grey
ok hear me out on this one
tech is a huge movie talker. like subtitles are a non-negotiable if you wanna be able to take in any of the movies dialogue bc tech is most likely gonna make commentary over it the whole time
this makes him absolutely indescribably so much fun to watch bad/corny movies with
he will go off about EVERYTHING. the plot, the dialogue, the acting, the costuming, the music, the production quality. nothing and no one is safe. whether you just enjoy letting him talk at you or you join in on the roast, cheesy movies are a hoot between you two
and honey. 50 shades is one of THE cheesiest movies ever
you and tech will literally spend the entire duration of the movie tearing it to shreds
and the thing is tech is a very sarcastic, funny guy when he wants to be (and when it comes to you he definitely wants to be) so by the end of it he will have you in absolute stitches from laughing at the ridiculousness of both the movie and him
with any of the other batchers watching a movie like this either turns into a shy, slightly awkward experience (wrecker, echo) or an incorrigibly horny experience (crosshair, hunter)
but in this context tech literally has no shame or squeamishness about sexual things (why should he it’s a natural biological process?) so to yall the sex stuff is just another thing to roast
literally christian grey could be fully tying dakota johnson down and flogging her and tech will be like “in the last 3 minutes they have panned up to her nipples 4 times. this is criminally shoddy cinematography”
even tho he’s busy giving a detailed play by play critique, he never fails to keep some sort of physical contact with you (wrapping an arm around you and running his hand up and down your skin, playing with your fingers or your hair) so you know he’s enjoying spending this time with you despite his nasty words about the movie
also 1000% after you watch it tech will do extensive research on the ins and outs of bdsm and will have lots of hypotheses he wants to test out (as long as you’re willing and able ofc) ;)))
Wrecker: 13 Going On 30
of all the bad batch members, wrecker is the only one who unabashedly loves any movie that could be considered a chick flick
like he doesn’t even try to hide it or act like he’s too masculine for it. he loves romance and he’s proud of it
this man will have full marathons with you. rom coms, regular roms, tragic roms, hallmark roms, you name it and he’s game
his absolute favorite tho is 13 Going On 30
i feel like he has a huge soft spot for childhood best friends to lovers stories like he finds that type of lifelong partnership so endearing (and he loves to live vicariously through jenna since that type of romance was obviously never an option for him)
wrecker is also very childlike at heart and i think the idea of a 13 year old sweetheart trapped inside the body of a 30 year old cut throat magazine exec is so amusing to him (and maybe makes him feel just a little bit represented in the media)
he is definitely the type to completely engulf you in a cuddle for the entirety of the movie and he DEFINITELY cries into your shoulder at matty’s wedding when jenna is crying on the stoop with her dream house
he wants to try razzles so bad. like so bad. i think if he ever came across them somewhere he would barter at least one of his brothers for them
wrecker really just loves love and watching movies about it just reminds him of how lucky he is to have his own love story with you <3
Echo: The Princess Bride
i feel like it’s glaringly obvious why echo loves this movie
pirates. sword fighting. decades long revenge plots. the value of an honorable, loyal man. true love that never wavers even in the face of devastating tragedy and the darkest of hardships. clever but goofy humor.
echo considers this an action/adventure movie and NOT a romance movie (even tho it 100% totally is a romance movie) and requests to watch it very frequently
he can quote the whole thing. i’m seriously telling you echo loves the princess bride with his whole chest
even tho he refuses to admit it’s a love story above all else, he really does try to model himself in your relationship after wesley
like especially given what happened at the citadel and all the time you thought he was dead, the cinematic parellels are alive and present in y’alls relationship and he strives to be even half the man to you that wesley is to buttercup
literally in your day to day life he will sometimes respond to your requests with a smooth “as you wish ;)” (it doesn’t matter how many times he does it it still gives you butterflies)
when you watch the movie, he snuggles as close to you as possible and does his best to make youre comfy the whole time (he’s insecure about his prosthetics hurting you no matter how much you reassure him they don’t)
he just loves to be able to feel your heartbeat and your laugh when you giggle at the funny bits
every single time without fail at the part when buttercup is about to stab herself he leans down, ghosts his lips against the shell of your ear, and whispers the line in time with wesley: “there’s a shortage of perfect breasts in this world. it would be a pity to damage yours”
every single time without fail you wind up making out until he pulls away and tells you to watch the next part when wesley challenges humperdinck to a duel to the pain
echo just loves you to bits and wants you to know he’d endure a thousand fire swamps for you
Omega: Clueless
i have this really specific obsession with omega being a total girly girl and having very traditionally feminine interests as she keeps experiencing the universe and being exposed to a spectrum of gender expression beyond clone (masc and boring) and kaminoan (ugly)
so with that headcanon of her in mind, it’s vital to me that she sees clueless as soon as possible
clueless is an essential piece of media for a girl entering adolescence and i will die on this hill
it has literally everything you want and everything you need to develop into a well-rounded young woman
it’s so deliciously 90s and glamorama and valley girl humor and camp. its got meaningful female friendships and valuable life lessons and paul mf rudd
if there’s one thing you should encourage a burgeoning hetero teen girl to do, it’s to stick to dating guys like paul rudd in clueless. the earlier this message can be broadcast the better
the second you’re able to steal omega away from hunters watchful eyes (“hunter we’re just gonna watch finding nemo i swear!”) you show her this movie
at this point omega is not really a girly girl, but omega also has absolutely zero feminine influence in her life
the first time she sees clueless she is absolutely obsessed. like seriously she is so enamoured with the glitz and glam of cher horowitz
she asks you questions the entire time. she wants to know about EVERYTHING. the makeup, the clothes, the hair, the slang
(she definitely goes around saying stuff like “i’m totally bugging” for long enough afterwards that almost all of the boys have slipped up at least once with some ridiculous valley girl slang. you thought you were gonna die of laughter when you overheard tech say “as if!” to wrecker in the middle of an argument)
it just really introduces her to this whole world of femininity that she didn’t even know existed and she absolutely loves it
she makes you watch clueless with her seriously once a week at minimum. she begs you to style her hair like tai’s and you can’t help yourself when you happen to run across a little yellow plaid dress and buy it for her on sight
(hunter was gonna scold you for recklessly spending credits until he saw how omega almost cried from how happy she was for the gift)
honestly she enjoys the romance of it all and paul rudd is def her first celebrity crush but she enjoys more that you and her now have this special thing of hair and nails and pretty dresses
she loves how confident and beautiful and special you’re able to make her feel, and you love that you get to bring her that small sense of normalcy and happiness

carmen sandiego as the jatp soundtrack
actually yes i am going to combine my two favorite tv shows and you can’t stop me <33
now or never
“clocks move forward // but we don't get older, no”
“keep dreaming like we’re living forever // but live it like it’s now or never”
“and even if we hit the ground, we’ll keep flying”
this song just ??? *screams* carmen right after she escaped vile... her being so excited to explore the world and not caring about falling down and her enthusiasm to stop vile without really knowing what they’re like yet... yeah
wake up
“get out, get out, relight that spark”
“its not what you lost, its what you’ll gain”
“better wake those demons, look them in the eye”
this song has such jules vibes (jules is definitely julie in this hypothetical au... even besides the names its just so perfect), and besides the fact that julia’s mom is also dead (see necklace theory) jules finding this song and singing it would be so amazing i cannot handle this
this band is back
“we gotta get ready, cause its been years”
“can you hear me” “LOUD AND CLEAR”
team red singing this band is back is something that can actually be so personal...
bright
“life is a risk, but i will take it”
“we will fight to shine together, bright forever”
“together, i think that we can make it”
do i. do i really have to say how much julethief this is. the way they shine and work well together, the way everything they do is the epitome of a risk but they do it anyways, the way together they can stop vile. yeah i’ll stop now
flying solo
“my life, my life, would be real low, zero, flying solo”
“if somebody hurts you, im going to get hurt too”
yes i know this song is julie singing to flynn. in this au its jules singing to carmen (or vice versa idk) the amount of brainrot this au can hold... nobody mention stockholm but yeah it definitely fits and just. scream.
i got the music
“weight off my shoulders, dancing instead”
“can't stop the music // back inside my soul”
i don’t even have coherent reasoning for this one i just think we should get to see jules sing this song and have player rap flynn’s parts. as a treat <3
the other side of hollywood
“we could go make history or you could rest in peace”
“everything has got a price but happiness is free”
“the rain don’t blind the rising souls // they got too much to see”
we all agree that hgc is basically vile but more dramatic and less green, right? also ive been trying to think of which of the faculty would be caleb in this au... i’m guessing countess cleo is the only one who could really pull it off well? but yeah... tr getting stuck at the hgc would be so so good and painrot
finally free
“hearts on fire // we’re no liars // so we say what we wanna say”
“i wanna fly // come alive // watch me fly”
“i got a spark in me”
“been so long, and now we’re finally free”
“now till eternity”
this is the ultimate julethief song actually i will not shut up about it (hence the excess of quotes). just !! the way its abt them not hiding anymore, “now till eternity” with “transcends space and time” ... yeah sounds like canon to me 😋 there’s so so so much quality content in this song i love it so much and just. this with julethief ???? my heart can’t handle this kind of excitement
perfect harmony
“bittersweet love story about a girl”
“two worlds collide when i’m with you”
“we come to life when we’re in perfect harmony”
yes i know this was cs as jatp songs apparently somewhere along the line it dissolved into julethief but honestly are any of us surprised ??? its just so so perfect the way the lyrics describe them is just LGSHDAFLS “two worlds collide” (acme vs jules’s personal wants/desires) “in perfect harmony” *cough cought* did anyone mention the duane interview? no ‘they work in harmony even when they’re not in the same scenes” yeah practically the same thing !! (edit bc carmen pointed this out and i am screaming: perfect harmony is basically the tsonts dance scene and i cannot get over this)
edge of great
“running from the past, tripping on the now”
“what is lost can be found, its obvious”
“i believe that we’re just one dream // away from who we’re meant to be”
“we’re standing on the edge of great”
EDGE OF GREAT MY BELOVED !!! this song is SO iconic and you know whats even more iconic ??? the way it works so perfectly with carmen sandiego... carmen and jules post canon ?? 👀👀👀. i am looking at the lost/found line in particular for that but all of it works so so well (also side note but i would die if we got the classic juke nose scrunches with julethief actually)
unsaid emily
“i should have turned around // but i had too much pride”
“and write in every empty space the words “i love you” in replace”
“the words i most regret are the ones i never meant to leave // unsaid emily”
to be honest this is the song that stumped me the most? it would take a bit of canon reconfiguring- either we’re making brunt more sympathetic (ew) or carmen grew up with carlotta and then had a falling out ??? i think that would make more sense, especially with carmen trying so hard to find her again after 25 years (the timeline matches closer than expected actually 👀 ) this song is peak painrot so have fun with this besties <33
you got nothing to lose
“ain’t nothing quite like living on the edge”
“i’m chasing down a thrill, looking fit to kill”
“you got nothing to lose, boys”
this scene would be so terrifying actually like, we already got the dark!carmen trauma so watching caleb have the ability to manipulate her would just be ABSOLUTE painrot *distant screaming* also the way the offer would be so tempting to team red ?? just bc carmens whole life is living on the edge, chasing down thrills, and being unable to settle down but she stays for jules i. yeah im soft what about it
stand tall
“and it’s one, two, three, four times // i’ll try for one more night”
“whatever happens // even if i’m the last standing // imma stand tall”
“keep holding on, never look back”
“i keep going on when it’s all falling apart // yeah i know it with all my heart”
thinking thoughts... julethief post canon with this song.... yeah i would be decimated on impact just the way jules thought carmen left but CARMEN COMES BACK.... canon ? i dont know her <33
in conclusion julethief/cs jatp au supremaki besties ♥️
#carmen sandiego#you dont need to know anything abt jatp to actually read this KLSDFGDHKLFSAJ#it definitely enhances the experience though#jatp#julie and the phantoms#carulia#julethief#carmen x julia#did i just spend almost two hous on a post with a target audience of five (me included)? yes#yes i did#also i know i left out the dirty candi songs i love them so much i feel so bad but#a) i have no idea how they fit into this au yet#b) i simply do not have the energy anymore 😭#nova rambles

from your blog you seem to have impeccable taste! any song recommendations? i’m trying to diversify my listening a bit, i’m in a bit of a libs rut again at the moment!
Thank you!
Oh man, song recs! I can just throw out some random recommendations and things plus commentary because that's how I roll. These are just random good songs in my library. Have a giant list, because it turns out I was having fun going through my files.
-Eat Yr'self Fitter and Smile, both by The Fall, both from their Perverted By Language album. It's not their most celebrated album, but it's my favorite. -If you want to be sad and also amazed at the narrative skills of a bunch of teenagers, Spiderland by Slint is an amazing album. Don, Aman is my favorite song but it does make me quite sad. -Sensoria by Cabaret Voltaire is just a fun 80s synth song -Can U Dig It by Pop Will Eat Itself (which features audio clips from The Warriors film, which you should see if you haven't, it's great) -Positively Lost Me by The Rave-Ups. I love this song so much, it's so fun to sing and the guitar part is so good. -Shum by Go_A which you have probably heard if you followed Eurovision this year but I still think it's a fucking banger song. Also Zitti E Buoni by Maneskin, the winners of Eurovision (their two new singles are also fantastic). -Synapse and Malarone, both by Linea Aspera, a band from the mid-2000s that sounds like what I imagine that gif of those two 80s goth girls doing a very solemn shimmy in a club sounds like -Tomorrow by Working Mens Club (which also sounds like you could mash it with Begging by The Libertines and it would work) -Slip Inside This House by Screamadelica, which is just a fun song to listen to, especially while traveling somewhere. -Shotgun Mouthwash by High Contrast. This song was in the soundtrack to Trainspotting 2 but it is my favorite song to drive home from work to because I'm just doing 80 on the freeway in the dark with this great beat. -Psoriatic by Scott Walker. A very creepy song and I think perhaps the second Scott Walker song I ever heard. It is extremely weird and I love it, although other people might not. If you like it, all his self-titled albums are very cool, as is his collab with Sunn O))). -C30 C60 C90 Go! by Bow Wow Wow. Malcolm McLaren stole Adam Ant's drummers for this band but the result is this awesome single. -Sockets by Slaves. Watch the music video if you listen to this song, it's amazing. -Speaking of amazing music videos, Tongues by Joywave is a pretty awesome song with the most surprising and fun music video I've ever seen. -Venus by Television (okay, all of Marquee Moon really). This song and Gary Gilmore's Eyes by The Adverts (another banger) are connected in my mind for some reason as "poetic songs about random anatomy that are extremely creative". -Cinnamon Road by Tangerine Dream is just a fun electronic instrumental that makes me really happy -Blank Expression by The Specials. It's the Specials, idk, it's just good. -Andrew In Drag by The Magnetic Fields. It's a really good fun song and Stephin Merritt is a cool dude. -I'm In Love With A German Film Star by The Passions. I've had this song for years, I have no idea where I picked it up, but I like it. -Dumb Waiters by Psychedelic Furs. The entire Talk Talk Talk album is amazing. It's just straight punk and Richard Butler has such a distinctive voice. I listened to this album constantly in high school. -Sea Calls Me Home by Julia Holter. This song is just really pretty. It’s like a mermaid singing. -Death Disco by PiL. Basically the end of John Lydon being cool/not a shitbag, but it's a fantastic song and I love the use of the Swan Lake motif because I am a nerd. -Yes by McAlmont & Butler. There's some quote about David McAlmont along the lines of "one day he'll open his mouth and a cathedral will fall out" and yeah. This song is so great. Fueled by both members falling out with their other bands, so the emotion behind it is intense. (It's also the song that apparently inspired Manic Street Preachers to start writing music again after Richey Edwards died.) -Who Do You Want For Your Love by Budgie. I really wish I could learn this song on guitar, with its funky bassline. -Atlas by Battles. I found this song via the tv show Torchwood a million years ago but it's a good song. -Bad Seeds by Beat Happening. One of the PNW bands that inspired Kurt Cobain, and this song is really good, and also reminds me of Goo Goo Muck by The Cramps. -Back Into The Future by Man. Thanks to Nicky Wire for this one. I think he played it when he was a guest on some radio station. -Starlings by Elbow (warning: this song starts soft and then has a really sudden, loud brass horns sound, so I'd advise not listening to it super loud because it will be very startling.) The entire Seldom Seen Kid album is awesome, I think it's their best, lyrically and musically. -QYURRYUS by The Voidz. I like The Strokes even though Julian is in his slutty middle aged douchebag phase, but I prefer The Voidz and all his weird vocorder experimenting. This song and Cool As A Ghoul are my favorites. -Me by The Wolfhounds. Just a good early punk song. They have a more recent song called The Stupid Poor that's also really good. -Nick The Stripper by The Birthday Party. Great bass, the way Nick Cave says "insect" is so cool, the sickly sliding brass is so great. (Listening to this is reminding me that I need to listen to Birthday Party more often.) -Here Comes Your Man by The Pixies. You’ve probably heard this one because everyone has but it’s just a great song. -Wing Run by the Osees. I only discovered this one last year. My roommate was listening to it in the shower and I literally knocked on the wall to ask him what he was listening to because it sounded cool. Very proggy, but I like prog rock. -No Witness by LP. I have no idea where I found this song but the singer's vocals are really cool. -Goodnight New York by Vienna Teng. It's just a really pretty, nostalgic, sweet song. -Vitamin C by Can. You’ve probably heard this one. It’s just brilliant. The entire Ege Bamyasi album is awesome but this is obviously the best song. Those drums! -Christian Dior by Morrissey. I hate Morrissey the person, I love Morrissey the music. This song has always made me feel very bittersweet for some bizarre reason but it's one of my favorites. -Human by Rag N' Bone Man. This dude has such a great voice and this song is really good bluesy soul. -Do You Love Me by The Contours. A classic r&b song and yes it’s the one from Dirty Dancing but it is actually a really good song. -David Watts by The Kinks. This song is so silly and I just love it. It was one of my alarms on my phone for a while. -Here’s Where The Story Ends by The Sundays. This song is kind of sad, and I have no idea where I found it, but it’s really pretty. -The Passenger by Iggy Pop. Also Perforation Problems by Iggy Pop. And of course I Wanna Be Your Dog. I just think Iggy Pop is awesome. One of my roommates saw him live and I’m extremely jealous. -A Letter From Home by Ulrich Schnauss. Another electronic instrumental. This actually played at my job and I fell in love with it. -Happy Feet (High Heels Mix) by Blam. I admit to liking electroswing. Idk if this really counts because it's more like a club mix of a swing song, but it's fun. (I found it off the soundtrack to the first season of US Queer As Folk.) -Law (Earthlings On Fire) by David Bowie. I know most people like Bowie's 80s stuff but I love his mid-90s industrial phase (even though his hair was ugly). -Sound And Vision by David Bowie. My all-time favorite Bowie song. Low is his best album imo. The song is just so perfect in every way. -Faster by Manic Street Preachers. I'm cliched in that this is my favorite Manics song, but it's just Richey at his absolute best. Other Manics favorites are This Joke Sport Severed, Roses In The Hospital, and NatWest Barclays Midlands Lloyds. -Sinnerman by Nina Simone. She’s just such a force and this song is so cool, just totally driven by her voice and this very simple guitar/piano motif. -The Cutter by Echo & The Bunnymen. You’ve probably heard this one before. It’s just a great song. -We Can Be Together by Jefferson Airplane. My parents were hippies so I grew up on the Volunteers album. Most of the lyrics are taken from a UAW/Black Panthers leaflet which I just think is so cool. -She Sells Sanctuary by The Cult. Just a really good gothy psychedelic 80s song. -Ebeneezer Goode by The Shamen. I really love 90s dance music, it scratches my brain real nice, and this is a great one. -Please Don’t Touch by Polly Scattergood. It’s like if Toni Basil was mentally ill. Idk why I like this song, I think it’s because it’s almost obnoxious but somehow manages to pull back from it at the last second. -Under The Light by Fleece. You know the "How To Make An Alt-J Song" video that went viral like 6 years ago? Those guys have a band and they're great. Really lovely mellow dreamy music. -At Home He's A Tourist by Gang Of Four. The entire Entertainment! album is really good. -Candy Says by The Velvet Underground. It’s really feels like Lou Reed singing about a friend which is nice. Run Run Run and Vicious are also great songs. -Smokestack Lightning by Howlin’ Wolf. A good blues song with a really nice riff. -Beijing Taxi by Viagra Boys. This is the first song I heard by them and it’s just a really weird dream story being talk-sung but it’s great. (Also please watch the music video for Sports by them for some laughs.) -Down In The Tube Station At Midnight by The Jam. Another good classic punk song. I just really like the way old school punk songs tell stories. -Ampun Bang Jago by Tian Storm & Ever Slkr. I found this song from that viral video of that woman obliviously exercising to it while the Mayanmar coup occurred behind her but it’s actually a fucking bop. -Slow Motion by Patrick Wolf. It’s just really pretty. His song The Days was featured in that cute gay movie God’s Own Country. I had another song of his in my library for years before properly looking him up. -Exit Everything by Rowland S Howard. He’s just so cool. I can never decide what song by him I like most. There’s also Breakdown and Autoluminescent that are great. -Johnny B Goode by Chuck Berry. A classic. Also the Sex Pistols cover of this is really funny. -(Feels Like) Heaven by Fiction Factory. Very 80s but I like it a lot. -Sex And Drugs And Rock N’ Roll by Ian Dury And The Blockheads. This song is fun and always makes me laugh. -Heartbreak Hotel by John Cale. It’s a cover of an Elvis song but I hate Elvis and I think John Cale is great. All the instruments are whack out of tune but it sounds so cool. Way better than the original.
Sorry this is a lot. I was having fun! If there’s stuff you really like, let me know and I can make more suggestions in that direction!

My headcannon for the Strawhats favorite songs
Luffy: Ramen 3 Minute Cooking by AI Otsuka It's about ramen obviously, not meat, but I think it's his vibe and you can have meat in ramen if you want anyway. Can I hear him singing it? Yes. With ace when they grew up. They probably wrote it tbh.
Zoro: The best by AWOLNATION. it's not his favourite because he's not the type of person to have one, it's just a good workout song so he says it is.
Nami: Material girl by Madonna. It was playing in a high end store when she found a top she really liked and found a strong connection to it. Can I hear her singing it? Yes, with passion
Usopp: Eight wonder, The ultimate showdown, or Acton movie hero boy by Lemon demon. I don't really have an explanation for these besides that Eight wonder is his fame little god complex, The ultimate showdown is his lies and Acton movie hero boy wildly unbelievable stories. Can I hear him singing them? Weirdly yeah. They are more his range and by that I mean more spoken to musics tune for the most part. Brook is 100% the music for Acton movie hero boy tho, he'd kill it.
Sanji: It used to me Only you by Yazoo cos it was a nice song to fantasies about blasting at a girls window to ask her out while it's raining and you threw rocks at up at her window to ask her out but now it's actually Big jet plane by Angus & Julia stone and sometimes he still says Only you out of habit and is low key shy about living such a soft song. (This is just me projecting and I know that) Can I see him singing it? I feel like he'd hum it more that sing it but I can see him singing it on a date.
Chopper: Doctor Jones by Aqua. It's a stupid, annoying as fuck kids song that was on kids pop and I hate it but I think Chopper would find it's amazing. It's litrally a cheesy love song so he would lie and say it's PONPONPON or something cos it's embarrassing. Can I see him singing it? Not anymore but he definitely sang both parts in his room back on drum Island.
Robin: Ghost duet & Ghost Choir by Louie Zong because it's very clam but just quirky enough for her taste. if you ask her for one with words, depending on her mood and how well she knows you, she'll give you Fake your death or This is how I dissaper by My chemical romance. Can I hear her singing any? Fake your death is the only one she'd try. I think she might have sang This is how I dissaper before once of twice if she's alone and frustrated.
Franky: Super freak by Rick james because he is one, it's got 'ow's in it, the backing singers used to be his gang and he had an entire routine to it that he tried teaching to Usopp and Chopper a few times but Usopp canonically can't sing and chopper's arms are too small for some of the moves.
Brook: I feel like setting the obvious aside, Brook would like he would like to play Married life by Micheal Giacchino because it's got a lot of emotions in it but if he had to just listen to a song I think it would be 2112 by Rush. This song is 20m long punk rock song about life, music being banned then death. It opens with a kick 5m or so instrumental and is very post time skip brook in my mind. Can I here him singing it? Not really but he could so I guess. Brook sing and this song kinda just screams then talks in tune so I'm not sure it's his voice but if he put his mind to it he could play most of it.
This post was a 3am fever dream that I do not remember making at all but okay.

Walking the Tightrope - Jamie and Claire AU
The year is 1919, and a 13 year old Claire Beauchamp has just lost both her parents to the Spanish Influenza. Alone in the world, and out of options, Claire runs away, stumbling across train tracks. When she wipes away her tears, she discovers a train, and is welcomed aboard.
What happens when Claire finds out that the train is home to the Ringling Brothers & Barnum and Bailey Circus? Luckily, she meets a family – The Fraser’s, who help her learn the circus life. But, will she always want to stay? Or will she eventually grow up and realize it’s time to leave the circus and her best friend, Jamie… behind?
This is the first 3(ish) and only chapters of this fic. I will also add the outline for what this story was going to be at the end. I hope you enjoy it and I was excited to get into the twists of this story. Moodboard by @beaauchamp xx
Chapter One
Boston, Massachusetts 1919
Claire Elizabeth Beauchamp was 13 years old when she ran away to the circus. Normally, young girls don’t run away to join circuses — especially not young British girls who had just moved to America.
Claire and her family were originally from England, the beautiful city of Oxford, and had relocated to the United States for Henry Beauchamp’s job. He was a veterinarian, and had been offered a position to teach the subject at Harvard University, an offer he couldn’t refuse.
Their family packed up their small home and moved across the Atlantic. Claire found it was rather easy to leave her home country, she hadn’t always been the best at making new friends. And besides, she had her parents to keep her company. Henry’s brother, Claire’s Uncle Lamb, was an archaeologist and had traveled with them to stay for a few months in between digs.
They had only been in Boston for eight months before the sickness came. It was 1919 and the Spanish Influenza was spreading rapidly throughout the country and throughout the world. Claire felt helpless as she watched people around her die.
“You must stay with Lamb, darling,” her mother said, voice barely above a whisper. “He’ll take good care of you.”
“But I want to stay with you, mum,” Claire gripped her mother’s hand, aware of how hot her skin felt against her own. “I want to stay with you and papa.”
Julia Beauchamp had woken up that morning with a chill that rapidly turned into a fever. It was a miracle that Claire wasn’t ill. Her father, Henry hadn’t been so lucky. He lay in the bed next to Julia, chest rising and falling slowly, skin moist with fever.
“We won’t be here much longer,” Julia said and did her best to squeeze Claire’s hand. “You must make a good life for yourself. I know you can.”
“Mother!” Claire weeped as her mother’s grip loosened. Bent over the bed, she threw herself on top of both her parents, desperate to give them all the life that was in her.
“Oh, Claire, dear,” her uncle Lamb raced in and pulled her off the bed, his own eyes filled with tears as he watched his brother and sister-in-law leave the earth. “You mustn’t look, child.”
“I want my parents!” Claire cried against her uncle’s chest, her body shaking and not able to contain the grief she felt. There was nothing that could have been done — nothing that anyone could have done.
She had just lost both of her parents, what could have been worse?
It was barely twenty-four hours later that her favorite Uncle Lamb had fallen ill and died of the Spanish influenza. Claire Beauchamp was now an orphan with no one to turn to and nowhere to go.
An orphanage was the only suitable place for a girl like her. The thought of being stuffed into a house with tens of other children without a family made her stomach twist into knots.
Claire stood by herself, hands clasped firmly in front of her, trying not to cry as she watched her parents and uncle’s caskets be lowered into the ground. It took everything in her not to throw herself down and demand to be buried along with them. What did she have to live for?
Alone in the world and with nowhere to go, she ran from the funeral with nothing but the black dress on her body and the Oxfords on her feet. She thought she could make it on her own — survive all by herself.
There was no particular destination in mind, but the air around her was suffocating and every look of sympathy shot her way made her want to scream. So Claire turned, tears streaming down her face and began to run even faster.
The wind whipped past her face, salty tears flying behind her as she pumped her arms and legs to carry her as far away as possible. No one stopped her. No one knew her.
It wasn’t long before her chest began to burn and the tears filled her eyes to the point where she had to stop. When she looked up, she saw iron train tracks and followed them, only hoping that soon something would come and take her away.
As the sky darkened and the night grew cold, Claire shivered and wished more than anything for her family to be alive. But wishing wouldn’t bring them back. So with every step, Claire pushed out the memories she had of Henry, Julia and Lambert Beauchamp — because thinking of them only brought pain.
Stumbling along the tracks, her feet aching and stomach rumbling, Claire knew she needed to find a place to sleep. Lifting her head up, she saw lights in the distance — lights of a train. A train would have food and people, surely someone would be kind enough to help her find her way, or perhaps they would let her ride along.
With careful steps in the dark, Claire made her way to the last car of the train and stepped off the tracks to peer at the side of the boxcar.
Ringling Bros. and Barnum & Bailey Circus
A circus.
Claire’s eyes went wide, wondering what kind of animals lived inside the small confines of the boxcars. She had never been to the circus, but had always wanted to go. Claire loved animals and was always quick to make friends with them in whatever country they were visiting.
Voices came from further down and Claire walked forward into the light.
“Psst,” came from behind her and she whipped her head around, back into the dark. Not seeing anything, Claire shrugged her shoulders and kept moving forward. “Psst,” she heard the sound again.
“You!” A voice said quietly from above her. Claire looked up and gasped, jumping back to see a head sticking out of the boxcar. “I’m talkin’ to ye lass!”
“Me?” Claire pointed at herself.
“Do you see any other little girls around here?” The man said in a thick Scottish accent.
She shook her head and before she could do anything else, the man stuck his hand out, offering her a way up. With no other option, Claire reached up, grabbed it and was pulled up into the boxcar.
“Yer a wee thing,” the man said and for the first time, Claire got a good look at him. He was tall, with wide shoulders and had jet black hair. “What are ye doin’ out here so late at night?”
“I—“ She stammered, suddenly wondering if she made a mistake running away.
“Where are yer parents, lass?” The man said and when Claire met his eye, it hit her, the fact that she would never wake up to the smell of her father’s chocolate chip pancakes again or hear her mother sing along to the radio every evening. Tears fell down her cheeks and her chest caved in. The man with the jet black hair caught her in his arms as she began to fall to her knees and he held her against his chest.
“Shhh, I didna mean to upset ye,” he spoke softly. “Tis only it’s no every day young lasses come walkin’ beside the tracks.” The man ran his hand gently over Claire’s head, smoothing down the unruly curls.
“I have a lad about yer age, maybe a couple years younger. My daughter is probably near yer age though,” he said, trying to soothe her with conversation. “Usually the brothers dinna take a family on the road wi’ them, but they’ve allowed it this time.”
“Y-you have children?” Claire stammered as she wiped her face on her sleeve and looked up at the man. He released her, making sure she could stand on her own two feet.
“Aye, two of them, the wee numpties,” he laughed. “And my wife, they’re all part of the act, ye ken.” Claire raised her brows, unsure of what “act” he was talking about. He saw the confusion on her face, “Och, have ye never been to see a show before?”
“No, never.”
“My wife Ellen and I are lion tamers,” he said proudly, crossing his arms over his chest and leaned back against the wall of the cart. “My son and daughter are what ye could say cub tamers in training,” he laughed.
“You tame lions?” Claire asked, eyes wide for the second time that night. “I’ve never even seen a lion!”
“Ah, I thought I detected an accent,” he smiled. “That makes this even more curious. What’s a Sassenach like ye doin’ here?”
“A Sassenach?” Claire asked as she took a seat on a cot nearby, her legs unable to hold her up after a day of running and walking along the tracks.
“An English person, just a wee nickname,” the man smirked.
“I moved here with my parents about a year ago, we’re from Oxford.”
“Ah, Oxford,” he smiled. “I went there once as a lad, beautiful place. Yer parents, ye say? Where are they? Do they ken their daughter is runnin’ away from home to join the circus?” He laughed and then the laughter died as he caught sight of her face.
“My parents are dead,” she nearly whispered and the man dropped to his knees in front of her. “My uncle is dead. I have no one.”
“Oh lass,” he took her small hand in his. “I’m sae sorry, I— I’m sorry for yer loss.”
“Their funeral was today, it’s why I’m dressed like this,” Claire pointed at her dress. “I did run away, but I didn’t know where to run to.”
“It’s every kids dream to join the circus is it no?” The man put his thumb under her chin, lifting it up. “Ye’ve a place here, if ye want it.”
“But I can’t join the circus!” Claire laughed, her emotions running on overdrive. “I’m just a girl and a circus is no place for me.”
“Try tellin’ that to my daughter Jenny, she’ll be sayin’ the opposite,” he smiled. “She loves the animals, helps take care of them when she’s not performin’. She’s wi’ her Mam and brother up in the car ahead eatin’ dinner.”
Claire didn’t know what to say at this offer. Join the circus? It all felt like a fantasy. No one really ran away to the circus and certainly not young girls like her. But she didn’t exactly have a lot of options — no family, no house, no money.
“I’m Claire Beauchamp,” she offered her hand to the man.
“Brian Fraser, lass. Pleased to make yer acquaintance,” he kissed the back of her hand. “So is that a yes? Are ye runnin’ away to join us?”
It could’ve been much worse and as Claire looked around the small train car, she thought she might as well give it a try — the least she could get out of it was a hot meal and a night’s sleep.
“Yes. I’m running away to join the circus,” she smiled for the first time in days.
“Tha!” Brian smiled. “Ye’ve just made the best decision of yer young life, lassie. Now,” he stood up, taking her hand. “We need to feed ye and then find ye some place to sleep. I expect ye’ll be needin’ a wee nap soon.”
Claire followed Brian through a small door and through another into another train car. They walked through several others, past people with curious eyes and hushed tones, wondering who she was no doubt. Claire had never seen so many people crammed into such a small space before. They finally came into the train car Brian was looking for and he let go of her hand to walk over to a red headed woman, kissing her on the mouth.
They seemed to be in a train car where people ate, the place was lined with small tables and chairs, plates of food in front of everyone. Brian motioned for her to join him and she stood shyly next to him while he introduced her.
“I found a young lass outside,” Brian smiled, placing his arm around her shoulder. “This is Claire Beauchamp, she’s from England and she’s run away to the circus.”
“Run away?” The girl who must be his daughter Jenny said from beside her mother. “I didna ken anyone like ye would want to come and live here.”
“Who wouldn’t want to live here, Janet?” A young boy said beside her, looking at her with the bluest eyes Claire had ever seen.
“Claire will be joinin’ us for dinner tonight,” Brian smiled and then pulled up a chair for her. “Jamie, Janet, say a proper hello to the lass.”
The young girl stuck her hand out over the table, “I’m Janet, but you can call me Jenny. I’m fourteen. This is my younger brother, James.”
“But ye can call me, Jamie,” the young boy offered her his hand from beside her. He had a mop of curly red hair and mischievous glint in his eye. “Did Da tell ye we tame lions?!”
“He did,” Claire nodded. “I’ve never seen a lion before though.”
Jamie gasped, frightening Claire and he grabbed her arm, “Ye’ve never seen a lion? Jenny, did ye hear the lass?”
“I heard her fine well, Jamie,” Jenny rolled her eyes, but then smiled at Claire. “We can show ye them tomorrow when we unload”
“Unload?”
“Aye, when we unload to set up for the circus, we’ll be in Boston for the next two nights and then it’s on to another city,” Jenny smiled.
A plate of food was set down in front of Claire and her stomach made a very loud noise at the sight of it. She hadn’t eaten all day — she hadn’t eaten much of anything since she found out the news about her parents. She grabbed the fork and began to eat quickly, not caring if the food was too hot.
“Slow down lass,” Ellen smiled from across the table. “Ye need no worry about it disappearin’.”
“Sorry,” Claire said shyly, her cheeks turning bright red.
“Dinna fash, lass. I just dinna want to see ye gettin’ a belly ache. My Jamie gets those when he eats too fast,” Ellen smirked.
“Mam!” Jamie shouted. “Dinna talk about my belly in front of her!”
Brian snorted over his food, which only made Claire blush harder. She took her next bites a bit slower, savoring the taste.
“I never asked before,” Claire said to Brian once her plate was clean. “You’re from Scotland. You all are,” she looked around. “What are you doing here then?”
Brian glanced around at his family, then finally his eyes focused on Claire. “I suppose ye can say that we ran away too.”
Ellen took her husband’s hand, squeezing it so tightly her knuckles went white.
“We still need to find ye a place to sleep, lass,” Brian said a moment later. “There’s probably room for ye to join in our car tonight.”
“I can show her, Da!” Jamie said beside her and he nearly jumped out of his chair.
Laughing, Brian smiled, wiping his mouth with a napkin. “Aye, son. Take her to the car, we’ll be there in a minute.”
“Follow me, Claire,” Jamie smiled, offering his hand to her. She took it, following the boy back through the train cars she had come through. They found themselves in the same car Brian had pulled her into. As she looked around now, she saw that it was rather cozy — as cozy and nice as a train car could get she supposed.
“This is where I sleep,” Jamie said as he pointed up at the top bunk. “Then Jenny sleeps in the middle and there’s actually an empty bunk on the bottom. I guess that’s where ye can sleep.”
“You all sleep in here?” Claire said.
“Aye, Mam and Da take the cot in the corner, tis small, but it’s enough,” Jamie smiled. He couldn’t have been but a couple of years younger than her, but he was just as tall as her, if not taller. He seemed kind and not for the first time, Claire wondered what an entire family was doing joining the circus.
“My Da said ye were runnin’ away…” Jamie said to her as he came to stand in front of her. “Why, Sassenach?”
“Oh you too?” Claire smirked. “Your father called me that earlier, I suppose I better get used to it.”
“Och, I didna mean any offense!” Jamie put up both his hands. “Yer English is all.”
“No, it’s alright,” Claire smiled and tucked a stray curl behind her ear.
“Ye didna answer my question…” Jamie said softly.
“I—“ Claire felt her chest tighten and her eyes water. “I’d rather not talk about it just yet.”
“Oh that’s fine, Claire.” Jamie reached for her hand, squeezing it tight. “Ye’ll see soon enough how great this place really is. It’s like a dream!”
“I’ve just woken up from a nightmare of my own,” Claire said, her shoulders drooping. Jamie lifted her chin with his fingers.
“Ye’ve nothin’ to be scarit of, Sassenach. Not so long as I’m wi’ ye,” he smiled, squeezing her hand again.
“You’re very kind, Jamie. Much kinder than I deserve,” Claire smiled. She had to admit that Jamie was rather cute and very charming. Perhaps this circus thing wouldn’t be so bad after all. “I’m feeling rather tired.”
“Och, of course,” Jamie smiled. “As I said, the bottom bunk can be yers.”
“Thank you, Jamie.” Claire let go of his hand and climbed into the bottom bunk, sighing as she slipped off her shoes. She winced as she felt the blisters, but tried to keep quiet as Jamie climbed up to the top bunk.
“I’m glad yer here, Sassenach,” he said a few minutes later as they both lay quietly. “I was wishin’ for a friend.”
Claire didn’t know what to say so she turned over on her side and let herself weep. Only hours before, she had buried her family and said goodbye to the life she knew and now she was lying in a bunk on a circus train.
Her eyes grew heavy and soon the tears stopped as she slipped into a deep dreamless slumber.
Chapter 2
Claire woke to the quiet whispers of Brian and Ellen Fraser. She didn’t want them to know she was awake just yet, so she kept her eyes shut tight and face buried in the pillow.
“What is she going to do here, Brian?” Ellen said softly and glanced over at Claire lying still asleep on the bottom bunk. “Ye ken fine well that this is no’ a proper life for a girl like her.”
“Jenny’s here is she no’?” Brian said.
“Aye,” Ellen clicked her tongue. “But she’s our daughter, and she didna have much say in the matter at the time if ye recall.”
Brian rubbed his hands over his face, sighing as he looked at the young girl.
“She’s got nowhere else to go, Ellen. Her parents and uncle died of the influenza,” he said softly and Claire realized that his own children must still be asleep above her.
“Christ,” Ellen muttered under her breath. “So she really did run away to the circus, the poor lass.”
“Ye ken just as well as I do what that grief feels like,” Brian said to his wife. “The poor lass is heartbroken, I’m sure we can find somethin’ here for her to do.”
Ellen leaned against her husband, silent for a moment before nodding. “We must help her.”
“Aye,” Brian kissed his wife’s forehead. “I’ll go and talk to the brothers. Let them know about our newest passenger. I’ll find ye and the bairns at breakfast after setup.”
A sliding door opened and closed and Brian Fraser left the small boxcar. Claire could hear sniffling from the corner and opened one eye to see Ellen wiping away tears that fell down her cheeks. Compassion stirred Claire to rise from her bed and she sat down beside Ellen on the small cot.
Without saying anything, she took Ellen’s hand in hers and squeezed it. The older woman smiled down at her, squeezing back.
“I’m glad that yer here, Claire,” Ellen smiled and ran her fingers softly over Claire’s cheek. “We’ll do the best we can to take care of ye, and make ye feel at home.”
Claire’s throat felt tight, and she knew that if she spoke she would burst into tears, so she wrapped her arms around Ellen and buried her head against the woman’s chest. There was nothing quite like a mother’s embrace — warm and soothing, like being wrapped in the arms of an angel.
The two of them sat there for a moment longer, quiet as they both grieved for their own loss. Claire looked up and finally released her arms from around Ellen when Jamie and Jenny both started to wake up.
“Morning my darlins,” Ellen said to her children.
“Morning mam,” Jenny said, wiping her eyes as she jumped out of bed, landing on her feet.
Jamie yawned and jumped down as well, rubbing his hands over his eyes. He blinked and looked at Claire, as if remembering that she was there. “Morning Mam, Claire,” he smiled softly.
“Are ye ready for yer first day at the circus, Sassenach?” Jamie asked, a grin spreading across his lips. It was infectious, and Claire found herself smiling too.
“Ready as I’ll ever be.”
++++++
“So, what exactly do you and Jenny do all day?” Claire asked as they walked over to where the large tents were being setup. It looked like quite a job to do. Men and women were lined up in a circle, each holding rope, and tall wooden beams were on their sides, ready to be lifted. Claire didn’t envy their job.
“We help wi’ anythin’ that needs to be done,” Jenny said. “I usually help wi’ the cookin’ and feedin’ everyone. Well, as much as our cook Mrs. Fitz will allow me to since I’m only fourteen. She’s Scottish as well!”
Jamie bumped against Claire, “And I help with the animals! No’ the big ones though. Mam willna let me near them.”
“That’s cause you’re a wee ten year old,” Jenny smirked and winked at Claire.
“I’m turning eleven next month!” Jamie scowled and kicked at a nearby rock. He hated to feel like the odd one out. “I usually just walk around and see who needs help. Since I am ten…” he sighed. “I can only do so much. The circus is a tough job, ye’ll see soon enough, Sassenach.”
“It sounds like it,” Claire agreed.
They found the food tent, which had already been set up the night before. The smell of fresh eggs and bacon made Claire’s stomach growl and they got into line. Claire looked around the tent and saw mostly women there, as the men were still setting up the larger tent that would house the main event.
“Are you the only other kids here?” Claire asked the Frasers. She hadn’t paid much attention to anything when she boarded the train last night.
“Aye,” Jamie nodded, scooping a large helping of eggs onto his plate. “We’re also the only family here too. The circus is no’ exactly a life most people choose to raise bairns in.”
“But, we havena been here our whole lives either,” Jenny added. “We were both born in Scotland. Ye see, we moved here five years ago.”
They found Ellen sitting at a table, a plate of food already in front of her.
“Good to see ye, Claire,” Ellen smiled gently. “I hope my bairns havena been tellin’ ye too many wild stories?”
“No,” Claire shook her head. “Jenny was just telling me about when you moved here.”
At that, Ellen froze, her complexion going pale and she looked over at her daughter who shook her head slightly.
“Ye’ll have to forgive me, Claire,” Ellen said. “I dinna like to talk about our life before the circus. Those times are better left in the past.”
“That’s all right,” Claire nodded. That was certainly how Claire felt now. She would much rather leave all of her pain and grief behind her, and try and start a new life. Granted, this wasn’t what she had in mind, but it was better than living in an orphanage.
A few minutes later, Brian Fraser came over with his own plate. He was sweaty from putting up the tent, but didn’t seem to mind. Most people here were covered in a thin layer of sweat and dirt. Living on train wasn’t exactly all that clean, Claire realized.
“After ye eat, Da, can ye come wi’ us to show Claire the lions?” Jamie asked his father.
“Aye,” Brian nodded, chowing down on piece of bacon. “But ye kids ken the drill. Dinna stand too close while we feed them.” He turned to look at Claire, “The lions will be hungry this mornin’ and it only takes almost gettin’ yer hand bit off once, to practice extreme caution around them.”
“I don’t want to get too close at all!” Claire squeaked. She had been around animals all her life, her father had been a veterinarian. But, he had never worked on a lion before — only house cats and dogs, with the occasional horse.
Once Brian was done with his breakfast, Ellen and Jenny stayed behind to help with the food and cleanup, while Brian, Jamie and Claire went to see the animals. They were still in their cages, but would be unloaded into their own tent before the show.
“We have the lions of course,” Jamie said excitedly, almost bouncing as they walked. “Then we have the horses, pigs, giraffes, one elephant, monkeys, zebras —“
“Zebras?!” Claire gasped.
“Oh yes,” Jamie grinned. “They’re my favorite after the lions. A bit like horses, really, which I also love, but the stripes are the best!”
Claire could immediately tell when the reached the animals cages, as the smell was quite strong. As was the loud roar that one of the lions gave as they approached. Another man was already there with a bucket full of meat, which the lion was eyeing and trying to get through the bars.
“Stay back here,” Brian instructed them before going to join the man.
“That’s auld Alec,” Jamie pointed. “He’s in charge of takin’ care of the animals.”
“All of them?” Claire said, awestruck.
“Aye, I help sometimes, but he does most of the work,” Jamie said. They watched from the trees as Alec and Brian began to feed the lions. Brian distracted the lions, moving them to one side of the cage, while Alec opened it up and set the bucket of meat inside. Then the lions pounced on their food and ate it ferociously.
“Wow,” Claire gasped, grabbing onto Jamie’s arm.
“Dinna fash, Sassenach,” Jamie grinned. “They’re no’ as scary after they’ve eaten. Later, I’ll show ye how to pet one. They can be quite friendly.”
“I’ll believe that when I see it,” Claire laughed.
Brian returned to them, and auld Alec followed closely behind. “This is young Claire Beauchamp who has come to join us,” Brian introduced her.
“Tis nice to meet ye little lass,” Alec offered her his hand and she shook it.
“We need to find somethin’ for the lassie to do,” Brian quirked his brow.
“My father worked with animals,” Claire said shyly. “All kinds, but not any lions or elephants.”
“He was a veterinarian?” Alec asked.
“Yes, sir.”
“Well, perhaps some of his skills rubbed off on ye lass,” Alex grinned. “How’d ye like to come wi’ me and see the rest of the animals? I could use all the help I could get!”
Claire looked over at Jamie who nodded encouragingly, as did Brian. Jamie stayed back with his father, leaving Claire to follow the animal carer. The thought of being around animals was a small comfort, at least she had vague knowledge of their needs.
She would never forget one warm afternoon when her father was seeing to a pregnant dog. Claire had stayed up with her father all night, comforting the dog as she gave birth, and making sure the puppies were seen after.
“Is she in pain, papa?” Claire asked, petting the head of the golden Labrador.
“A bit, my dear,” Henry Beauchamp replied. “Giving birth is no easy feat. But she’s a strong girl,” he stroked the dog’s bulging stomach. “It should be within the hour.”
Claire and her father had stayed up late into the night, watching over the dog. She belonged to a woman from town, but all Claire wanted to know was who would keep the puppies.
“How many puppies will she have?”
“I think perhaps four,” her father said as he moved his hand over the dog’s belly. “But we won’t know until she has them. Why are you asking my love?” He cocked a quizzical brow at his daughter.
“Oh, you know,” Claire grinned. “Maybe Mrs. Wilcox doesn’t want four new puppies. Maybe she only wants three!”
Her father laughed, “That’s something you can ask Mrs. Wilcox tomorrow. And of course, you’ll have to ask your mother.”
“I will, papa,” Claire smiled and went back to petting the dog’s head. “When I grow up, I want to do what you do. Being around animals all day must be fun.”
Henry rose to his feet to check that he had everything he needed — sutures for after the birth, plenty of towels. “It is rather fun, my dear. But, I will warn you, that it can be quite hard too.”
“Why is that?”
“It’s never easy telling someone that their pet is ill,” Henry frowned, coming back to join Claire on the ground. “Or feeling like you can’t do anything to help. Not everything can be solved with medicine, I’m afraid. But I try.”
At this, Claire felt sadness wash over her. As little girl, they had a pet cat, but he had passed away before they moved to Boston. She knew all too well what it was like to be told that your animal was sick.
“Well, you can still be there for someone and try and make them feel better,” Claire replied. “I think I still wanna do what you do.”
Henry reached out and smoothed back his daughter’s unruly curls. “Then you shall, my darling. You shall do whatever your heart desires.” He bent and kissed her forehead. “Your mother and I will always be here to support you.”
Auld Alec showed Claire all the animals. Claire was gobsmacked seeing so many creatures she had never seen before. She had heard about the circus coming into town, and thought about asking her parents to take her, but that was before…
“I bet yer Da never worked on zebras, aye?”
“No,” Claire shook her head as they approached one. “A few horses, but never a zebra.”
“They’re a lot like horses, of course,” Alec said and reached his hand through the bars. “Go ahead and reach yer hand in, she willna bite.”
Slowly, Claire approached the cage, trying to be careful as she reached her hand inside. The zebra nodded her head forward against Claire’s hand, letting her pet her. The zebra made a snorting sound, and Claire laughed.
“Does she have a name?”
“Zoe,” Alec smiled down at Claire. “Zoe the zebra.”
“Fitting,” Claire nuzzled Zoe’s nose.
As the morning rolled on, Claire stayed with Alec and watched as he interacted with every animal. Treating them with such care and gentleness, as if they weren’t really animals at all, but humans.
Finally, they got word that the animals were set to be moved into their proper tent. Men came to unhook their cages and wheeled them into the tent. The horses were let out to walk and stretch their legs, and Claire immediately gravitated to them.
She was barely half the height of the horse, so she came up to it carefully, not wanting to disturb it. Alec had tied them up to a nearby pole and they were munching on a trough full of hay.
“Here,” came a voice from behind her, making her jump. She turned to find Jamie, holding a bright red apple. “Donas loves these.”
“Thank you,” Claire took the apple from Jamie and walked around to the horse’s head, and held out the apple. He snorted, looking her up and down before placing his wet mouth on her hand and snatching the apple up. “He did like it!”
“Aye, told ye,” Jamie grinned. “I love the horses.” He came to stand beside her, reaching out a hand to rub over Donas’ nose. “Tha thu nad bheathach math,” Jamie said in a foreign tongue.
“What did you say?” Claire asked.
“Oh,” Jamie’s cheeks blushed. “I didna even realize I was speakin’. Twas Gaelic. Just callin’ him a fine creature. I find that speakin’ to the animals in Gaelic helps to calm them.”
“Would you teach me some then?” Claire asked. “It looks like I’ll be helping auld Alec with the animals!”
“That’s great!” Jamie smiled. “What I say to the horses is really just gibberish. No’ meant to even mean anythin’, but try sayin’ what I did — tha thu nad bheathach math.”
It was a language Claire had certainly never heard before. Her mother spoke a bit of French and had taught Claire a few words and phrases, but Gaelic was very different.
“Tha thu nad,” she said slowly. “Be-heath-ach math?”
“Let it roll off yer tongue,” Jamie said the phrase again.
“Tha thu nad bheathnach math,” Claire said again, this time getting it as closely as she could to how Jamie had said it. “Well, with practice, I think I’ll get there.”
“Aye, ye’ll do great,” Jamie smiled. “I’m glad ye found yer place, Sassenach. It’ll be nice to have ye here.”
“Yes,” Claire rubbed her hand along the side of Donas’ neck. “I think it will be rather nice here after all.”
She hadn’t even been at the circus for a full twenty-four hours, but already it was beginning to feel like home. The animals would be her new companions, as well as the Fraser’s who had welcomed her in as one of their own. Running away to the circus was the best idea Claire ever had.
Chapter 3
7 years later… New York City 1926
Claire thought often of her first night on the train — how alone she had felt and like she would never belong anywhere. It had been nearly seven years since then and the circus was now her home.
She wasn’t properly educated, but her love for animals kept her with a full time position with the Ringling Brothers. Jenny Fraser was her best friend, along with her younger brother Jamie, of course.
They traveled from city to city, amazing people with the greatest show on earth. Wonders and mystery surrounded them and Claire felt she was part of something truly spectacular.
There were times she thought she should find proper work, especially on her eighteenth birthday two years ago. Jamie had set up a picnic by the horses, Claire’s favorite of the wild menagerie.
“I think I need to leave, Jamie,” Claire said as she took a bite of a strawberry. They were sitting under the tent where all the animals were kept and it was rather smelly, but Claire had grown used to it over the years.
“Leave? Why would ye do that?” Jamie said as he reached for a cracker.
“I don’t know,” Claire sighed. “I’m an twenty year old girl, traveling around with a circus, surely I can find a real job out there.”
Jamie grew quiet, his brows knitting together and he crossed his arms over his knees. “If you want to then you should.”
“I didn’t think you would want me to go,” Claire said.
“I don’t,” Jamie looked up at her. “But if ye want to go…”
Sighing, Claire laid back on the blanket, followed by Jamie. They had grown close over the years, able to tell each other anything and everything. He had always been there for her as he said he would be. On the anniversary of her parents death, he always made sure she was alright and was there to distract her if she needed — or to be a shoulder to cry on when she needed that.
“It’s not like I want too… I just feel I should. Make a proper life.”
“Ye have a family here, Claire,” Jamie turned onto his side, lifting his head up on his elbow. “Ye ken that.”
“Of course,” she smiled. “It was just a silly thought, Jamie. Nothing more.”
“I hope so,” Jamie said as he brushed a lock of hair off her forehead. Something in Claire’s stomach fluttered whenever he touched her and she wanted him to do it again. Jamie was much taller than her now, and had grown into handsome young man.
“Sassenach,” Jamie said. “I dinna want ye to leave.”
“I won’t,” she whispered and then his lips pressed against hers. A small sound left her lips in surprise, but then she relaxed, wrapping her arms around his neck. Before she could really taste his lips, Jamie pulled back, rising quickly to his feet.
“I’m sorry, Claire, I dinna ken what came over me,” his face was bright red and he was turned away from her.
“It’s alright, Jamie,” Claire sat up, her heart hammering. She had always wondered what it would be like to kiss him, but he apparently regretted it.
“I shouldna have done that,” Jamie cursed in Gaelic and before Claire could say that she liked it, Jamie had stormed out of the tent, leaving Claire alone, sitting on the picnic blanket.
++++++
Neither of them had spoken of the kiss since then and that was two years ago. Claire wondered if Jamie even remembered it had happened or maybe it had been so bad, he had forgotten it.
Claire thought he liked her, but clearly he didn’t and things had gone back to how they were before. Claire knew she fell in love easily — she always had a crush and for a long time her crush had been Jamie.
She would watch him nearly every night in the show, holding up hoops for the lions to jump through, admiring the hard muscles of his body. He was just two years younger than her, but already he looked like a man.
It came to no surprise, however, just how fast she fell for a man one night when Claire was introduced to a young investor by the name of Philip Wylie. He was in New York to see the show and was interested in becoming a partner with the Brothers.
“You’ve been with the circus for seven years?” He asked her over a drink one night. The show had just closed and people were still loitering around. She knew he was an important man by the fine material of his suit. Claire wanted to impress him, and help the circus bring in more money.
“Yes,” she smiled, “Joined when I was just a young girl.”
“That’s quite impressive,” Philip smiled, his hand resting lightly on her knee. “What is it that you do?”
“I help with the animals. Taking care of them, checking that they’re alright to perform for the night,” she placed her hand over his. Philip was at nine years older than her, and already she was smitten.
They talked for the rest of the evening and he escorted her back to her train car, kissing her on the cheek and promising to see her soon.
Blushing, Claire placed her hand over where Philip’s lips had just been, sighing as she leaned against the wall. Just then, Jamie came through the door, still wearing his costume from the performance.
He glanced over at her, his fingers deftly unbuttoning his coat. “Ye look happy.”
“I am,” she smiled. “I’ve just had drinks with a man who wants to invest with the circus.”
Jamie stopped undressing and stared over at her, noticing the glossy look in her eye and the red tint to her cheeks. “Ye mean that stuffy old man I saw ye wi’?”
“He is not stuffy! And he is not old!” Claire picked up a shoe nearby and tossed it at him, narrowly missing his head. “He was kind and charming, much nicer than you,” she rolled her eyes.
“Och,” Jamie grunted and finished taking off his coat. “Just be careful wi’ him. Next thing ye know, he’ll be wantin’ to take ye away.”
“And what’s wrong with that?” Claire crossed her arms, becoming annoyed with him.
“Well ye said ye wouldna leave,” Jamie turned to her. “Not for a proper job as ye say so I wouldna like to think ye’d leave for a man either.”
Claire’s mouth dropped open in shock and she crossed the small space to stand in front of Jamie, having to look up at him. “I’ve had a couple of drinks with the man, Jamie! Not accepted a proposal!”
“Forget I said anythin’,” Jamie ran his hands back through his hair, turning to leave to another car.
“Fine,” Claire huffed. “I’ll do just that, Jamie Fraser.”
He glanced at her, his eyes full of something Claire didn’t quite recognize before sliding the door closed and leaving her there on her own.
She knew it was important for Philip Wylie to want to invest in the circus, so perhaps she had flirted a bit too much and let him place his hands a little too high on her leg. But nothing would come of it, and besides… Claire would never leave the circus. Not for a real job, and certainly not for a man.
Outline for this fic:
Chapter 1: 1919. Claire’s background. She runs away to the circus, meets the Fraser’s
Chapter 2: 1919. Claire’s first day at the circus, she helps the Fraser’s and then Brian asks her what she’s good at. She tells him that her father was a vet and she was always around to help. He tells her they have a vet but she can be his young apprentice.
Chapter 3: 1926. Claire meets Philip Wylie. Two days later one of the animals gets sick and she stays overnight to keep it company. Jamie finds her and stays with her, on the other side of the train car. They talk more about what Claire would do if she left. Jamie tells Claire about Willie and how he died of the Spanish influenza when they came here. Claire asks him why they came to America, but he won’t talk about it.
Chapter 4: Jump forward two weeks later, and Claire has drinks again with Wylie. She kisses him and he puts his hands on her. Jamie sees them kissing and thinks that Wylie is trying to hurt Claire so he goes over and punches the guy. The next morning, Wylie shows up with a black eye and forgives Jamie, and says he’ll invest in the show on one condition - that Claire marries him.
Chapter 5: Claire feels like she has to marry Wylie to save the show and also she tells herself she loves him. Jamie is jealous, because he’s been in love with Claire since he first met her. That night he gets distracted at the show when he sees Wylie whispering into Claire’s ear and the lion scratches him. Jamie is rushed into the medical tent and the show continues. Claire helps tend to him and cries over him. Hours later as he is recovering, Claire tells Jamie that she’s going away with Wylie.
Chapter 6: Two weeks later, it’s Claire’s last day of the circus. Jamie tells her why they came to America. His father owed his uncles money, and after a time when Brian couldn’t pay, Colum wanted to show him a lesson. So he told one of his men to set fire to the small chicken coop, but a wind caught and it ended up burning down their house. They all escaped. Finally, she won’t have to be a girl on the run anymore. She will live with Wylie in New York City, and still be able to come to some of the shows on the east coast.
Chapter 7: Two months later. It’s two days before Claire’s wedding to Wylie, and she hears from him that the train crashed. He’s angry about losing money that he just invested and Claire keeps asking him if anyone is hurt. He finally tells her that six people died in a fire. Wylie tells Claire that she can’t go back to the circus, she left that behind and she belongs to him now. “I belong to nobody.” Claire leaves in search to find out if Jamie has died.
Chapter 8: Claire makes it to where the train car is. There’s still smoke from two days before and Claire finds Jenny who is crying. Claire thinks immediately that Jamie is dead, but Jenny is crying because one of the animals died. Claire cries with her and then asks about Jamie. Jenny tells her that all wounded men and women are at the hospital and so she takes her there. Claire finds Jamie and he’s badly wounded. Burns on his arms and legs. She sits with him and while he is asleep she tells him that she loves him and that she isn’t with Wylie anymore.
Chapter 9: Jamie starts to recover. He admits his feelings for Claire. He says they don’t have to get married just yet since they’re both young. He knows now that with a few of the train cars damaged, it’ll be weeks maybe months before they get back on the road. Jamie says that he wants to go to school and become a vet. Women aren’t allowed at school yet. They make plans to one day open up their own vet clinic.
Chapter 10: Once Jamie is out of the hospital, they walk back to the site of the crash. He tells Claire just how horrible it was. They both feel sad that this part of their lives is coming to an end. Jamie’s parents tell him that they will stay with the circus as long as they need. Jamie takes Claire back to the small hotel room and they make love for the first time with each other.
Epilogue: nine years later, Jamie has graduated from vet school and they have their first clinic open. They already have two children and live in the country, where Jamie travels to work. They have a whole farm of animals.

Five Quotes From Your Favorite Books:
(the poet x by elizabeth acevedo)
but if thought corrupts language, language can also corrupt thought. (1984 by george orwell)
but by degrees the flood of music drove all speculations out of his mind. it was as though it were a kind of liquid stuff that poured all over and got mixed up with the sunlight that filtered through the leaves. he stopped thinking and merely felt. the girl's waist in the bend of his arm was soft and warm. he pulled her round so that they were breast to breast; her body seemed to melt into his. wherever his hands moved it was as yielding as water. their mouths clung together. (1984)
but you could not have pure love or pure lust nowadays. no emotion was pure...their embrace had been a battle, the climax a victory. it was a blow struck against the party. it was a political act. (1984) (this quote is so gay lol.)
he did not stir, because julia was sleeping with her head in the crook of his arm. most of her makeup had transferred itself to his own face or bolster, but a light stain of rouge still brought out the beauty of her cheekbone. a yellow ray from the sinking sun fell across the foot of the bed and lighted up the fireplace, where the water in the pan was boiling fast. down in the yard the woman had stopped singing, but the faint shouts of children floated in from the street. he wondered vaguely whether in the abolished past it had been a normal experience to lie in bed like this, in the cool of a summer evening, a man and a woman with no clothes on, making love when they choose, talking of what they choose, not feeling any compulsion to get up, simply lying there and listening to peaceful sounds outside. (1984)
