I may not be a big fan of Giovanni, but I must admit that it takes a special kind of courage to nap outside while it's snowing.

Of all the really pretty and fantastic bits of environment design in Spiritfarer I have to say my absolute favorite so far might be that Astrid's house has a built in Cheater Couch from the beginning that you can see Giovanni sleeping in sometimes while she's in the house. 100000/10 no notes

TW FOR TOXIC RELATIONSHIPS

Hi so I’ve clocked over 70 hours into Spiritfarer and I still cannot get over Astrid and Giovanni’s dynamic. They both love each other so much. We are flat out TOLD they love each other and want to make each other as happy as they can. But it’s not that easy.

There’s (rightfully) no trust that Astrid can give Giovanni and that breaks down their relationship so fast. We get implications that Giovanni’s cheating and lying was something that was going on when the two were still alive through some of Astrid dialogue, and STILL Astrid loves him so much that she wants to give him another chance after what could’ve been three, five, maybe ten already-given chances. And Giovanni wants to make her happy. He vows to never look at another person ever again if it was what she wants, he gets her flowers and chocolates, and he constantly sings her praises.

He can’t change who he is though, and Astrid can’t change him either, as much as she wants to. He falls back into temptations. He was cheating on Astrid before we found him, flirts with the other female passengers, and is even discovered cheating on her while literally living on her couch. He doesn’t even really ask us to lie for him when he’s discovered. He leaves the choice to us because he believes that we know what’s best for Astrid more than he does.

And even after telling her the truth, Astrid gets upset with us! She just wants to believe the funny, loving, kind Giovanni she fell in love with is the Giovanni standing in front of her, but he’s not. He can’t live up to her expectations because he is flawed and not built for monogamy. I’ve known people like Giovanni and know as a result that he isn’t automatically a bad guy—he’s just an awful romantic partner. He’s human (well, kind of) and is subject to his vices and flaws just like any other person.

Their relationship is the kind of toxic where both parties want to make it work. It’s such a powerful story that shows us that love isn’t enough. That love is nothing without trust. You can love someone so much and still fall into the old patterns that break a good thing no matter how much you try not to.

TLDR: Auri gushes about how Astrid and Giovanni’s relationship in Spiritfarer is so toxic and shows that love isn’t enough on its own.

Frankly I know the Spiritfarer fandom loves to hate on Elena but I actually. Really liked her :') Bruce and Mikey, those two I could not get off my boat fast enough. But I liked Elena, and Giovanni too.

The way spiritfarer drops the characters leaving/passing on you is so painful. You’ll be doing tasks for them and then suddenly you talk to them and they’re like: my time has come, you know where to take me.
