The way spiritfarer drops the characters leaving/passing on you is so painful. You’ll be doing tasks for them and then suddenly you talk to them and they’re like: my time has come, you know where to take me.
IM CRYING. I GOT ATTACHED TO YOU. IM GOING TO MISS YOU.

I'm (not) ok.
(Side note: Summer and gwens story's might have affected me to most. Mainly because some people in my life had cancer with the added addition that my family has a history of cancer, this shit just fucking destroys me. It's such a beautifully written way of showing how devastating cancer really is and I'm happy the devs are handling it with so much respect.)

After an even bigger hiatus, I returned to Spiritfarer! I've 96% completed it and honestly don't want it to end... This is one of those games you need to savor slowly. Every moment is magic ✨

Finished Spiritfarer.
The gameplay was a very chill and relaxing loop. I found it quite relaxing overall, just completing little tasks and always having a few simple goals or locations to check out. The story on the other hand was like getting punched directly in the emotions every couple hours. The story feels very personal and meaningful. The music swell at the Everdoor brought out so much feeling in me every single time I had to hear it. I really liked this game and finishing it was a bittersweet experience, but that makes sense for a game where in a way it really is all about how all things come to an end.

Stanley has my heart. Learning about his backstory broke it. He deserves all the french fries and hugs. 😭 I love the intention and thoughtfulness behind each Spiritfarer character’s design.
From the Spiritfarer Artbook.
[alt ID:] Stanley is a wonderful 8-year-old boy who met Stella as he was losing his fight against a fatal disease. Cheerful and whimsical, Stanley is gifted with an analytical mind which allows him to crack one-liners and aphorisms. His wisdom makes full grown adults blush in humility. Stan loves to experiment with all sorts of things, and is always delighted when Stella is by his side. She plays with him and considers him like a real person, not underestimating him. To Stella, the very idea of someone like Stan being in palliative care represented an immense challenge. How could such a gentle, innocent and young soul end up in her ward? This difficult grasp with a heartbreaking reality is portrayed in the world of Spiritfarer by the way in which Stan winds up on the boat. Stan is, at first, a seed fished from the sea. He then must be planted in the garden, where he “grows”, and is eventually plucked from the ground. As the youngest patient Stella has ever had to take care of, Stan left an unforgettable imprint on her. He helped her realize that death can take many forms, and that wisdom and peace of mind can be found in the most unusual patients. The fungal nature of Stan is also a testament to this difference, as well as his peculiar four arms which help put more emphasis on the unbelievability of his character. To add a more personal touch to the character, the drawings Stan makes of Stella and some passengers have been made by a real 6-year-old boy by the name of Hector, who is a team member’s son. You have to understand.... That everything is but a meaningless arrangement of atoms. Everything you've ever known, seen, or experienced. Fortuitous circumstances. In the universal chaos, humanity emerged. Not a tiny bit more purposeful than the rest. But with an incredible faculty: That of creating meaning, however fleeting it might be. I have no inherent meaning. Neither do you. But we can create, organize, put in order. And thus create purpose and meaning. Transcend the primordial chaos. All of humankind does so. We create machines that are useful. To take control. Machines like the dreaded chair. The one that subsumed me, made of me an object. But maybe, also, that made me truly realize what impermanence means. For our numerous creations only have meaning as long as they are useful. My chair, when it finally became unneeded, became once again a heap of metal. Melted back in to the universal chaos. Lost its inherent humanity. Usefulness is an easy way to meaningfulness. But not a trustworthy one. It vanishes as quickly as we do. And so it seems the only hope humanity has for transcendence is through art. Meaningfulness pulled from our chaotic minds. Not for utility, but for its own sake. And after the artist has been long gone, turned to dust, the art remains. And even after the last one of all humans will have returned to the primordial chaos, provided that we have protected it, Art will remain. And so it is that art alone is left in our wake. The only veritable form of transcendence to ever have been in our grasp. Proof of our existence, and of our pitiful efforts to raise from the chaos. As would some unknown script from a long-gone power. Well, well, now, Stella. Ozymandias beckons. Let's go.
