Ep 2.4 of "Rings of Power" was great!!! 😀 Some things happened like I expected but there were some twists that I didn't. Putting the rest behind a cut for spoilers and I'm trying not to reblog anything but I might revise how I was going to reblog since it's a bit easier to watch now that it's back to 1 ep a week. Will use the spoiler tag till tomorrow for whatever I reblog or post for this episode. But we're already halfway through the season and now waiting for next week.

I really enjoyed this one, though I see some are a bit divided about Tom Bombadil. I really liked him, did in the books too, and I love Rory so that made me love Tom too and how he's playing him. Nice to hear Goldberry too even if we didn't see her. And I like that he's helping The Stranger, who has to be Gandalf now after all of these hints. The Dark Wizard likely is the unnamed Blue Wizard that went evil, but hearing The Stranger say he has to stop him and Sauron from joining sides, when we actually know it's really Saruman in the 3rd Age that will be the one to fully join with Sauron so he will be successful in the 2nd Age but not the in the 3rd. Plus, the ROTK book at the end has a part where Gandalf tells Frodo he needs to reunite with Tom and finish the conversation they started a long time ago, which is likely what we saw in this episode and the next one Tom is in. 😀

Then I'm loving Galadriel's storyline. I feel bad that Elrond still can't trust her, even though it looks like that might be changing. Nenya is giving her more powers and she helped heal that other elf, which we know Elrond actually becomes a master healer when he takes over for Gil Galad, so that was a nice bit of foreshadowing. Also cool to see the Barrow wights. Then I loved when Galadriel had that next foresight vision and saw bit from the season finale including the fight she has with Annatar/Sauron, but she also saw that Sauron switches back to Halbrand!!! 😀 We had been wondering if that was the case when the "Last Temptation" song was released on the s2 soundtrack and Halbrand's theme comes back. I figured back when we saw that Charlie was going to also be Annatar that he'd have to switch back to Halbrand or change his looks again for s3, but going back to Halbrand now makes even more sense now that we know thanks to the s2 prologue that his main/base form now is Halbrand. Plus, I love the new wig they gave Charlie too as it looks more like his natural hair when it's longer and it's curlier. 🥰

And now Galadriel got captured by Adar and I'm very excited to see their scenes together as we know they'll team up and what they talk about Sauron.

Then I feel for Isildur and what happened with Estrid. It actually feels like a reverse Haladriel as they fell for each other quickly, she's actually working for Adar at first but seems to be changing, and she has a fiancé!!! 😲 There's feelings there on both sides so I'm curious how that is going to go. Also loved Arondir figuring out who she was, then him also with the Ents (and seeing an Entwife), and reuniting with Theo.

I also like the storyline with Nori, Poppy, and the stoors. Really cool to find out the Harfoots originally left the stoors to try to find The Shire!!! 😀 Though they call it by a different name and saw it in visions. Also, Poppy having a crush on Merimac was cute too.

So again great ep and can't wait for next week's!!!

Thoughts While Watching Gilmore Girls-Season 3, Episode 12. “Lorelai Out Of Water” Part 3

Lorelai woke Rory up at 5am so she could be awake to meet Alex before their fishy date. Okay, understandable. Alex is an angel. Meeting him is absofuckinglutely worth a five am wake up. Look alive, Rory Gil! You're in the presence of greatness.

YES ALEX I WILL MARRY YOU! Ahem. I mean, you should marry him Lorelai. Don't let the wormhole get him. Cut to later that day at a Korean Wedding. Dom Daddy Dave thinks Lane looks pretty in her dress. That's about it.

Well, that's nice of you Lane, but just like so many other utterances, this one comes with a big fat asterik. A nice fat juicy BUT.

Before she and Jess became an item, she was all Rah Rah Shishboombah Yay Jess, then they start dating and now she's bored and has no problem throwing Jess under the bus like in so many of Milo Ventimiglia's fantasies. SELF COUNTERPOINT: Two years of trying to defend Jess to people who distrust him for a myriad of nonsense reasons has worn her the fuck out. SELF COUNTERPOINT COUNTERPOINT: Rory is maturing enough to not care about other people's opinions? No, no, that doesn't sound right. Lane then sheepishly admits that she was full of hot air and didn't actually mean she was happy for them. This is coming from someone who propped Dean up on the regular for years so I don't take her opinion on other people's men seriously anyway. Rory didn’t even like Dean.

It's still never made completely clear WHY Lane doesn't like Jess. Is this still about the car accident? This is definitely still about the car accident. Rory: You like Smashing Pumpkins and I don't. Lane: That's just because you're close minded and blind. If DDD is Lane's Smashing Pumpkins then Jess is what band to Rory? Show your work. Use a number two pencil.

Okay miss I Must Protect My Besty. Where were you the last 3 years while Dean was stalking, manipulating and emotionally abusing your besty?

Mm hmm. That's right. Sit down. To no one's freaking surprise, Lane does not give one single example of what she is protecting Rory from.

This quadruple date would create a Swirling Vortex of Dorkdom the likes of which had never been seen before. SELF COUNTERPOINT: Keg Max? No, no. We don't talk about Keg Max. Lane then regales Rory with the story of a Korean couple, a story in which the wife endures years of verbal abuse from her husband, and being ordered to cook his meals. She snaps and attempts to skin her husband alive with a carrot peeler. He survived and they are still married and also, he's somehow the victim in this tale.

The Beaver here only escaped death by carrot peeler because our hero Rory Gilmore swooped in and destroyed his marriage just in the nick of time. And because Lindsay just couldn’t perfect the right ratio of arsenic to meatloaf.

I went to look up this episode's air date to see if Jess' ugly sweater was weather appropriate and learned that this episode aired in January 2003. STAY WITH ME HERE? Okay? The show is more or less on a close timeline. Jess is dressed appropriately, if dorkily, but someone should probably check on Alex and Lorelai. Because I looked up the temperature in Hartford on January 28th, 2003. At 5am on January 28th, 2003 in Hartford, CT it was negative four degrees. By 5pm that day, the temperature had risen to a toasty 21 degrees. I mean, Lorelai did concieve Rory on a balcony in the middle of January. It was a toasty 30 degrees at 8pm on January 10th, 1984, a roughly estimated date that she would have bumped uglies with Christopher to concieve Rory. She clearly doesn't mind a frozen wiener. I mean, they do drink a lot of Folgers, those nickels and dimes could really add up over time. After working for a few days he might be able to afford a pack of baseball cards. But they don't tip, so this is all a made up fictional story. ANYWAY.

Look at this doofwad. More Korean wedding boredom, nothing happens. Rory can't come to the boring wedding reception of some Korean couple she doesn't even know because she has a date with Jess and of course this bothers Lane, mildly anyway. It's been established that Rory has dutifully attended dozens of these weddings of complete strangers in Lane's family since childhood, for some reason, and this is presumably the last one. She's paid her dues. Lane invites Rory to invite Jess to the wedding reception. He had to be cajoled into going to a fun carnival. I think he would rather cut off his own pinky or tell the police where he buried the bodies than go to a wedding reception of one of Lane's relatives, a Lane who for all he knows at this point thinks he's the scum of the earth. Lane realizes this was a stupid idea. I think it's funny that Lane tells Rory "Tell Jess hi for me." Doesn't he sit behind you in class girl? Lane at school the next day: Hi Jess. Jess: Hey. Mama Kim then tries to set Lane up with some other boy to take her to the prom, while DDD is standing nearby. So Lane gathers her courage and tries to plead her case to Mama Kim and admits she has a crush on Dom Daddy Dave.

It would be so funny if she said Jess instead of Dave. Poor Mrs Kim though. Died of a heart attack so young.

The show's fish budget must have swelled in just a few episodes, because they managed to wrangled one very much living, breathing fish. Compared to just a few episodes prior, when we had Finding Zeemo:

Lorelai appears to have survived hypothermia although its possible she's not admitting to Rory that she lost a few toes. She somehow managed to catch a fish in negative four degree weather. Alex presumably did not question Lorelai’s motives and helped her pack up this live fish, which survived the sub zero temperatures, so she could bring it back to her home where she would dump the poor doomed creature into her tub. A third date with Alex is a go. While the exact fate of the bathtub fish is unclear, much like Lorelai and Alex's relations ship...or Lane and Dave's relationship...or Jess and Rory's relationship...and Luke and Nicole's relationship...or Dean's relationship with Lindsay's carrot peeler... its fate is certain to be a grim one.

It was probably a horrible idea.

That was what Amara kept telling herself, at least. Yet her feet still carried as if on their own towards the stables. Towards him.

She knew he would be there. She knew him as well as she knew herself - or at least, she liked to think she did. Rory had been one of her closest friends since they were just children. Since he was only a new squire, and Amara had followed him around, trying to get him to play knights with her. Ever since she had met him he had been her favorite companion, her confidante. Her crush. Her first love.

And the Grey Wardens would be taking him away from her. Duncan had asked her about him, what she knew. Although it had hurt her to tell him how wonderful Ser Gilmore was, knowing that her praise could mean that the Wardens would choose to recruit him, she also could not lie. Not when she knew how much it would mean to Rory to have a chance to join the Grey Wardens.

Then, she had been lucky enough to spend a short time with Rory again. It had felt just like old times, the two of them together as they had once been before. Before her mother's wishes and the rumors of favoritism had forced them apart. Amara had found herself clinging to the rightness of the moment - even as they fought the rats together in their attempt to get Gil from the larder. The rest of the day, her thoughts lingered on their time together. On him. On how perfect even that short time had been.

Now, she found herself staring at the stables, chewing her lip as she considered. He may not even want to see her. Perhaps he wanted to forget her, forget their time together. Wardens were supposed to shed their old life, were they not? Denounce everything of their past and commit themselves to the Order and their cause. But Amara knew that once he left the castle with Duncan, she would never see him again. She could not bear the thought of having not at least said goodbye; having not told him how she truly felt about him.

So she stepped into the stables, watching him a moment as he went about his work. After a long pause, she cleared her throat to let him know she was there before speaking.

"Ser Gilmore... Rory. Do you have a moment? I know you're busy, but I wanted to ask if we could... If we could talk."

Not to show my Tumblr fandom age and level of cringe but I’ve been thinking about Pacific Rim recently (or really just my ship (Maco x Raleigh) and drift compatibility as a concept) and since everything always circles back to Gilmore Girls for me on this blog it got me wondering who is and isn’t drift compatible and what that means.

Like, drift compatibility isn’t about romantic compatibility or that kind of soulmatism, it’s about having someone who you klick with on such a fundamental level that you could pilot a giant mecha together. Raleigh copilots with his brother before he meets Mako. One robot is run by a father-son duo. One is run by more than two. It’s not about romance but strong, personal and stable bonds between two or more people.

So with that clarified I think Rory and Jess are 100% drift compatible and that Rory isn’t drift compatible with any of her other boyfriends. Not because of shipping but because Jess is explicitly written to have an instant understanding with Rory and connection of the mind. That being said Rory and Lorelai are also drift compatible, but not Lorelai and Luke (again, not shipping related I love java junkie I just don’t think they could pilot a jaeger together). Emily and Richard are drift compatible and while Emily sorely wishes to be compatible with her daughter and/or granddaughter but she just isn’t. Lorelai, Sookie and Michel are drift compatible, both just the women and as a trio. I actually think Paris could’ve been drift compatible with Tristan at some point (though I really don’t ship them) and when she meets Doyle they are so drift compatible it’s funny. Also she might be drift compatible with her nanny. Madeleine and Louise are a lock for drift compatibility. Miss Patty and Babette are probably drift compatible too. All of Hep Alien could possibly run a suit together but after Dave leaves and tensions rise between Zack Brian and Gil Zack would break compatibility with and for everyone (that band is a unit and can only pilot a jaeger as a unit). Taylor Doose is convinced he can pilot a whole mecha by himself (he cannot).
