one thing i find interesting is that Rellana's sword description said the red one is engraved with "golden flame", it's the same flame seen on Fire Knights' weapon and Messmer's spear. so, flame with gold tinge.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
only the flame in Messmer's Orb has black tendrils of the Dark / Abyss, and it's the Orb description that specifically states he hates his fire. other items like his Kindling and Embers also have very distinctive dark outlines (the Kindling description confirms the Abyssal Serpent was eating away at the fire).
so we can safely assume Messmer's fire, when given to others, carries over the golden grace Marika blessed him with, whereas when it's Messmer himself wielding it, or if it's a catalyst that "can't find purchase" in other hosts like Fire Coil / Fire Serpent spell, it will always have the additional dark tendrils, since only Messmer carries the Abyssal Serpent. such a neat design choice and a very consistent way to showcase that.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
and it kinda makes me emotional because Marika is vulnerable to fire, yet her blessing to her son is so strong that her gold bleeds into his fire, & it's something that carries over when he shared it to those under his command. like how full of warmth and love that blessing must be? man.
Ymir i get it. i get you. you covet the strength of a mother so much cuz that strength is truly incomparable. welcome back BIoodborne's "Let the pungence of Kos cling, like a mother's devotion...Mercy for the poor, wizened child."

Ran into a hill giant wizard that used a spaceship sized booster rocket as her magic staff. It is technically used up from its original blast off, but the residual magicks on that thing are powerful. I saw her flame broil an entire bison in one casting with it. So heads up, don’t go starting shit with any hill giants.

Hey folks! It took WAY too long to get this out, but it's finally done. Well, technically it isn't done, but I'll get to that in a bit. One weird thing that needs explanation at a time.
So, as one can tell, I didn't just make statblocks for the behemoths, write some lore, and call it a day. I've discovered that I really don't like making statblocks and dealing with all the nonsense that comes with it (CR is a joke, and I'm not laughing). So, in typical Foundry fashion, I tried doing something weird that requires more work and ultimately still required me to make statblocks anyway. Yeah, I'm not smart.
So I made them templates instead. And while I was tempted to give up and just do the obvious thing since I was just going to end up with stats anyway, making them templates makes a certain amount of sense from a lore perspective and I genuinely think is an interesting idea worth pursuing. Quick lore tidbit, behemoths are likely the result of normal creatures becoming mutated by aether (it's not certain, but there are signs of this origin from what I've read), so a template makes logical sense. So, as long as I pick appropriate creatures for the template examples, the end result will get you pretty close to the behemoths in game. Sure, they're not perfect, but it would be easy to tweak them to better suit your game.
So the other behemoth in the room is there are only 3 behemoths here. I had intended on releasing them all at once. Turns out there's like 30+ behemoths AND 5 basically legendary behemoths. So, I'm splitting them up into their elemental categories, and the legendaries by themselves. I already have the Blaze behemoths written out, so those won't take nearly as long. As I complete each category, I'll update this post and make y'all aware of the additions. By the end, I'll have one document with all of them in it, a brew to rival Flesh & Bone.
But for now, a quick break to work on something else my ADHD has compelled me to rework. Stay tuned for that. Anyway, stay safe, don't forget to love each other, and I'll see you next time.

Remnant of the Blood Hunt (greatsword), Very Rare (requires attunement)
Day 16: Tooth-Bone / Prompt list by @faith_schaffer
The Remnant of the Blood Hunt is a greatsword carved from the thighbone of an ancient dinosaur, with a bronze hilt and adorned with the bones and teeth of other creatures. The blade, flat and smooth, was once part of a larger tablet used by early humanoid societies during sacred hunts and dark rites.

adam roush (senior concept artist at KI) released the dasein estate concept art and i just. i want to see the inside of his estate so bad. probably similar to the von trap’s estate but i just love that dasein has free will to decorate his house in his own tastes!!! you go sweetie!!!
i also want ki to release this entire area as a house of our own really bad. i’m upset we don’t have a novus (conatus) themed castle and more novus/dasein themed housing items save for the dasein fountain.

HAPPY NEW YEAR, FRICKERS OF THE FRICK RACE!!
We kick of 2024 with a comic I started back in FREAKING AUGUST-!! SOLANNE CONTINUUM presents "SUIKAWARI", based on the Japanese summer activity! Which - they are playing mildly incorrectly (person is supposed to be spun around until dizzy and they whack with a stick, NOT A DIVINE KATANA!).
Also, it's been a HOT minute since I've featured our beloved Valley Elders (ESPECIALLY ELDER-KUN ♥), but lo - another Husband appears forth! He's just trying to make up with Kidde for starting off on the wrong foot back in May www
Overall, despite the compounded focus/energy/interest issues, I managed to get this done. As a Host (read: creator), there is such an IMMENSE satisfaction taking a Paracosm scene out of my head and onto paper, and it always makes the comic-making toil worthwhile.

The Twitch Chat had this idea of a massive totem from a Giant's God that could bestow boons and curses on you. We went a little smaller, and with something more temporary.
But we still love the idea of coming across a large version in a campaign that could give you something more long-term, but its only a one time use.
Giant’s Ivory Statuette Wondrous Item, very rare
“This ivory statuette is the size of a halfling, but was once a part of a much bigger piece of art. The carvings on it depict several different types of giants: those among the hills, the clouds, and the mountains. Some of them are in battle, while others are enjoying peace and prosperity.”
You can invoke the power of this magic item and receive a boon or curse from the giant magics within. Roll 1d6 to determine the effects of the statuette’s magic, which lasts for 2 hours. Once this magic item has been used, it cannot be used again for 4 days.
On a 1 or 2, the statuette curses you, decreasing your size category by one, reducing melee damage you deal by 1d4, and giving you disadvantage on Strength and Dexterity saving throws and checks.
On a 3 - 5, the statuette gives you a boon, increasing your size category by one, increasing your melee attacks by an extra 2d6 damage, and giving you advantage on Strength and Dexterity saving throws and checks.
On a 6, the statuette gives you a mighty boon, you receive all the effects of rolling a 3 - 5, but increase by two size categories, and gain an additional 20 feet of movement. You can also choose to change the damage type of your melee attacks to fire, cold, thunder, or lightning.
Join us in Discord or on Twitch every Mon\Wed\Fri to create new D&D Homebrews like magic items, monsters, or subclasses. If you want to support Cloaks & Capes check out our Patreon for 650+ magic items, 12 monsters, 200+ tokens, maps, and more for just $3\month.
We add over 30 new items a month and 1+ monster a week.
