13. My Neighbors the Yamadas (1999)

5.5/10

Normally the slice-of-life comedy appeals to me but this time it was a "meh". It's not bad but I wouldn't recommend it unless ur doing a study on japanese gag manga art style in motion.

14. Spirited Away (2001)

10/10

It's hard to top Princess Mononoke and it's probably due to nostalgia is why I ranked this .5 higher than that but this is still is one of the top tier Ghibli movies ever made. I really wish I could eat the food from this movie, it looks so good.

15. The Cat Returns (2002)

9/10

A very cute movie about a kind, aimless girl who saves a cat and ends up kidnapped (or cat-napped if u will) to the Cat Kingdom where she's being forced to marry the Cat King's son but The Baron (from Whispers of the Heart, played by the Dread Pirate Roberts) help rescue her. It's not a grand adventure or as beautiful as Spirited Away/Mononoke but it's still a fun adventure that I highly recommend. Just don't look for any connections to Whispers of the Heart.

Alrighty, next week is "Howl's Moving Castle", "Earthsea" and "Ponyo"

yeah i used to have it on webtoon back in (i think) 2020 when i had a lot of home time, but i stopped updating it cuz it was too much time commitment :')

after that its not a dedicated comic series anymore, its just me posting art and yapping about them here and on twitter !!! i apologize for the disorganization, unfortunately any and all content about them is on this junk heap of a blog lmao,,..i try to tag everything as best as i can so hopefully its easy to navigate to certain things (mochi art/lime art/rambles/lore yapping/etc)

i also occasionally post short comics (a few pages in length) of them under the comic tag so theres a little bit more comic content there!!!

ooooh yeah big time. there are songs I can't listen to while I'm driving because they'll make me cry too much 😭 I cry all the time at everything not even just media. sometimes I just cry about like. birds in the park. the scene in my fic where wei wuxian meets the little girl with the injured bee is inspired by a video I saw about someone who had found a bee without any wings and brought it home and was taking care of it and it made me burst into tears with my love for humanity

finally watched Nausicaa for the first time ever today, and now I officially have a favorite Ghibli movie

I'm so not okay. I'm having a feeling I can't name. It's just cold, so cold. Maybe it's fear? Doom? I had this feeling during the last year I lived in isolation, once when I wrote a chapter for my second book, then again when I visited my family for Christmas last year and it held on until January. Maybe it's loneliness? I don't feel good about going to the rehab clinic and being so far away from home, my support system and my friends.

But I could likely have email contact with my therapist and I could call my one friend every day. And I will come back home. If worst comes worst, I could leave early. But I'm really not feeling good. My emotions are so cold. Just cold.

something about early july born befriending late july born hehe 😋 it's soulmatism, SO REAL THO shizuku's character is so relatable it made me feel seen </3 the whole seiji and shizuku being inspiration and motivation to e/o everything about this movie is so- and i found it at the perfect time too 😭 i don't remember what made me choose it, was going through the ghibli synopsis and woth stuck out to me <3 it's also the first ever ghibli movie i watched so that's also why it's v close to me

Alright, this one is gonna have one hell of a hill in terms of scores, lol

16. Howl's Moving Castle (2004)

9.5/10

It's hard to not hum the main theme while watching this movie or even days afterwards. It's a beautiful movie and it's easy to see why so many ppl put Howl and the other characters on top lists when discussing waifu/husbando/best characters.

17. Tales from Earthsea (2006)

4/10

People weren't kidding when they said this was the worst Ghibli film. I guess it's cause I've watched a lot of MST3K and so I was able to entertain myself and I can see how it could've been better but as it is now, at least in the dub version, the characters are flat, talk way too low a lot of the times and the story doesn't really go anywhere that makes sense in the end. Maybe if this was a mini-series it'd have the time to develop the characters/settings but as it is it's a boring mess.

18. Ponyo (2008)

8/10

A very sweet and kid-friendly retelling of the little mermaid. It made me rewatch "Lu Over the Wall" after it. We're all jealous of Ponyo's dad Fujimoto, right? I mean, the dude got with Granmamare, the huge goddess of the sea...how? Dude must've had Greg Universe charisma stats, lol

Alrighty, next time it's "The Secret World of Arreity", "From Up on Poppy Hill", and "The Wind Rises."

My parents took us to see the first Pokemon movie when it came to theaters years ago. That was their first exposure to anime. Let's just say it wasn't their cup of tea.

And now, they equate every animation coming from Japan as the first Pokemon movie.

I told Mom I was going to see the new Miyazaki movie with my brothers. She said, "Oh? Like that Pokemon movie? That movie was an assault to my ears. Have fun with that!"

No matter how many times I try to explain that things have changed since the 2000s, all anime is the first Pokemon movie.
