Again, shipping isn't activism still when I look at the way that soap fans are still bashing Sprina despite one-half of the pairing being off the show I feel compelled to say what gets lost in these convos is that often supporters of pairings like Sprina are very invested in seeing Black women loved in fiction.

Even when it's a character seeing a Black woman or girl loved, it provokes this very visceral kind of anger from some people. Whether it's faux concern or conveniently shipping her love interest with someone white and blonde it's all rooted in this idea that Black women aren't lovable and shouldn't considered desirable.
