Geralt/Triss or Eskel/Triss?

If I have to chose between those two and ONLY those two, then I definitely go with Eskel/Triss. I feel like Triss & Geralt's relationship, both from the books and the games, has SO many issues that it's rather toxic. I don't hate it, I just think they can do better.

That being said, my actual preferred pairings?

Yennefer/Triss:

Completely fan-based, I know, but I feel they meet on a more even level, have comparable life experience, understandings etc. I think they are better for each other and make each other better, than most of the alternatives.

Geralt/Jaskier:

I mean, it's really Geralt and ANYBODY else BUT Triss or Yen but I understand why him and Jaskier are such a popular pair. Again, they make each other better, for the most part.

I also like Geralt/Eskel and Geralt/Regis however, if I had to pick faves?

Eskel/Regis:

Bloody absolute rare-pair and I don't get it. Lots of people adore Geralt & Regis together (which I get) but I think Eskel would be an even better match. The love of books and philosophy, animals and simple pleasures. And we KNOW Eskel would not have the slightest issue with Regis' species affiliation. Big, brawny Eskel would LOVE someone who can take and give back like a Higher Vampire. Feral Eskel getting all protective and Regis finding it adorable because he REALLY doesn't need it. They would be so sweet together.

Lambert/?:

But what about the youngest, surliest wolf? I mean, any combo of Lambert/Aiden/Voltehre/Milena, I just eat that shit right up. Absolute GIVE ME MORE and I will be happy. (Big thank you to @inexplicifics for creating so much of this and inventing Milena. Big happy spot in my heart!!)

She wakes up to the blurry vision not of blue sky or the green of trees but to the grey of stone walls, cold and bleak and suffocating. Stygga, her hazy brain whispers, she must still be in Stygga. With a panicked start, she sits up. And falls right back, moaning loudly. Shit, her middle aches worse than when she had that miscarriage centuries ago. No, not really centuries, of course, but it feels like a very, very long time has passed since then, although it has not even been a year.

"You shouldn't do that, woman," a deep, gruff voice says from across what seems to be a large room. She blinks and the room comes more into focus. The walls are bare stone, yet there are candle holders mounted on them and the golden light of a sunny afternoon filters in through a high window. She is lying not on the floor between corpses in a pool of her own blood but in a bed. No fetters or manacles or anything hinting at that she is a prisoner. The blanket and pillow feel rather coarse, nothing like in Toussaint, and the bed is of a simple, but sturdy make, not a huge fourposter bed with a richly embroidered canopy. But a bed is a bed, and, being a simple girl from the woods, she hated all that hoity-toity luxury anyway. But where the hell is she? Where are her friends? And who the fuck is the man who just spoke to her?

Cautiously, she turns to the side where the voice came from. There are several more beds with small, plain tables between them, a chair or two, and a lot of unlit candles. At the far end by what seems to be the entry to an adjacent room stands a tall man. He is leaning casually against the ornamented wooden entry frame with his is arms crossed in front of his broad, muscular chest. His shoulder-length, unkempt hair is red, his face covered in a wild beard and his strange, dark eyes are examining her as if she was a foreign insect waiting to be stuck on a needle and mounted in a display case. Damn, she does not like this stare ...

This is a really tough question, it's almost like having to decide whether I love my son or my daughter more 🙈, impossible. But maybe some fics are a bit special for other reasons.

So, here they are: Let's start with the fic that brought me back into writing fanfic after more than 15 years of neither writing nor reading any at all, my very first Witcher fic:

Ashes to Ashes:

At the end of the Battle of Sodden Hill, a distressed Cahir looks at the burning forest. (Published: 2020-10-12; Words: 417; Chapters: 1/1). (I'm a bit proud of it, too, because it has some nice alliterations and other stylistic devices, I think)

This here is my longest fic so far, although it was supposed to have only 5 chapters. Then along came a couple of nice prompt events and it ended up with 18 🙈:

To kill or not to kill

On Thanedd Ciri is cornered by the black knight of her nightmares. And really wants to kill the man who, in her mind, is responsible for all the bad things that have happened to her, for everything she has lost. Wants to shove her sword through his throat until his feathers are soaked in blood...

This is the story of how Cahir comes to join Geralt's company (Cahir's POV, mix of books and S1-2 of the Netflix series, spoilers for Baptism of Fire, might have spoilers for S4, Published: 2022-08-05; Completed: 2023-04-08; Words: 58,316; Chapters: 18/18)

And the first ever fic I wrote for a prompt event, the Witcher Trick or Treat 2022. I was pretty proud that I managed to use all 11 prompts in one story in the correct order of the prompts and on the precise day. It was a lot of fun to write with some humour, a little whump, a pinch of smut and a scary monster song by our favourite bard:

Creatures of the Night

While Geralt's Hanza is staying in Beauclair, the famous fall event is coming up. An event the Witcher cannot refuse to take part in, even though he does have to dress up for it. However, not everything goes as planned and the members of the Hanza are in for some surprises. Blame it on the grape punch. Or is it the bard's fault after all? (Published: 2022-10-01; Completed: 2022-11-11; Words: 22,898; Chapters: 14/14)

Another first, my very first smut fic. No idea if it's any good, but I like it - well, it's Jaskier/Mermaid 🧜‍♀️ 🌊 😅.

Shimmering Scales and Stormy Seas

This is the story of Jaskier's first time. Decide yourself if it is true or just a tall tale. (Published: 2023-05-13; Words: 800; Chapters: 1/1)

Last but not least, there is my first crack fic. The little plot bunny came to me in the middle of the night, no idea where from. I find it pretty funny:

During their stay at Beauclair Castle, Geralt's Hansa play a game of cards. It soon turns out that not all the Hansa members enjoy it equally much, although Regis claims that it is both entertaining and enlightening. At least, Angoulême is having fun. (Published: 2023-02-26; Words: 1,125; Chapters: 1/1)

Other stories are also special for the one or other reason, but, alas, it's already 5. So, this is it for today. Have fun reading!

Okay, so I didn't intend to write a multi-post meta but I'm also not surprised. And also, this should be the last entry. It's the bits from Lady of the Lake that I talked about all the way back at the beginning.

So, Lady of the Lake is an example of this, and it's even included on the TV Tropes page. This is the reason for the (Almost) Everybody Dies ending, the bit where the Black Death is accidentally brought over into the Witcher universe (by Ciri, no less), and also probably why, after so much insistence on traveling with Geralt, Dandelion suddenly chooses to stay behind. Though I will grant that trying to come up with a way for Dandelion to plausibly survive Castle Stygga when nearly everyone else doesn't might've been a challenge best avoided (even though we all know that Jaskier is a feral bastard and he'd probably do all right).

The summary is that the hansa isn't in great condition, with exhaustion, injuries,and the like, so they end up staying with one of Dandelion's former lovers, Dutchess Anna Henrietta. Fringilla is also there, paying Geralt close attention. While staying there, Dandelion chooses to stay with Anarietta rather than continue on with Geralt, insisting that he's in love with Anarietta, and Geralt doesn't exactly take it well, saying that the Dandelion he knows would never say such things. It reminded me of those rom com storylines where the lifelong friend/love interests accuses the main character of changing who they are for the other love interest (or, frankly, like how Barb and Nancy started arguing after Nancy ended up hanging out with Steve all the way back in early season 1 of Stranger Things).

Dandelion and Geralt argue about it, they angrily decide to go their separate ways, and then in literally the next scene, Geralt goes and sleeps with Fringilla (while Yennefer has been imprisoned, btw; Geralt's really not doing so well by either Dandelion or Yennefer at this point).

And then, as Geralt and the rest of the hanse are leaving, Dandelion chases them down to give a better farewell to Geralt (and only Geralt).

(Also, yes, while Dandelion is one of my favorite characters, I don't agree with everything he says and I'm so glad that Joey was like, "Hey, let's give the whole 'womanizer' thing a break. Instead, Jaskier just loves everyone, gender nonspecific. Oh, and he drinks his 'respect women' juice.")

Anyway, Dandelion's poor views of women aside, the whole thing is very tender and shows how much they care for each other, how much it hurts them to separate, and how desperate Dandelion was to say goodbye to Geralt (and help, in his own way). And, of course, the bit about wanting to give Ciri a hug.

This is the only real breakup that Dandelion and Geralt have in the books, and it's wildly different than Rare Species. Dandelion chooses to stay behind, in exactly the sort of situation that Geralt had previously tried to convince Dandelion to leave him for and which Dandelion always refused, and now that it's happening, Geralt is heartbroken, furious, astonished, and immediately has a fling with Fringilla. Nevertheless, Geralt doesn't force Dandelion along with him, Dandelion makes sure they end up parting on better terms, and not only does Dandelion make Geralt promise to come back with Ciri and tell him the story of her rescue, Geralt promises without hesitation. And then there's a hug, with pet names, and Dandelion assuring Geralt that he'll look out for him.

And Geralt, after reuniting with Yennefer (briefly) and rescuing Ciri, makes it a top priority to honor his word by bringing Ciri with him to reunite with Dandelion (and arrives just in time to save Dandelion's life). And a lot of the wrap-up to the book is Dandelion and Geralt traveling together, like old times except the world has changed, to meet up with Yennefer and Ciri in Rivia.

All of this to say, the Mountaintop Breakup between Jaskier and Geralt is actually wildly out of character for both of them, compared to Geralt's attempts at sending Dandelion away in Time of Contempt and Baptism of Fire, and their actual breakup in Lady of the Lake.

I really wish Netflix!Jaskier was more like book!Jaskier in his ability to call Geralt on his shit.

Like at the end of A Little Sacrifice where there's this unrequited but not unrequited thing between Geralt and Essi and Jaskier goes, "Okay guys (gender neutral) I've had enough. Geralt she isn't Yennefer, she can't read your mind. So be a big boy, use your big boy words and. Talk. To. Her. Now I'm going to make myself a fishing rod and then I'm going fishing, and by the time I get back you two have better gotten whatever this is out of your system, because it's getting intolerable."

I really miss this quality in Netflix!Jaskier because let's be honest, Netflix!Geralt needs someone to call him on his crap even more than book!Geralt does. I think that's why their relationship feels so uneven.

Great question, I really like them all. But I think I have some favourite.

Philippa/Filippa Eilhart

Lord I love her. Badass, lesbian, owl, all the story is literally because of her (I won't spoil for those who haven't read the books). In the games she is perfect, In the books too. I have hopes for the tv show... I wouldn't have choose Cassie Clare (tbf I wanted them to go further in the native theme, because she is so native coded in the games and a bit in the books, and to choose a native american/australian actress), but why not.

Anna Henrietta of Toussaint

From the books a bit, but more from the games. Blood and Wine is an awesome dlc. Queen step on me. I like her sister a bit too. I love how this story is borderline coded. I wrote a fanfiction of her and a maid (being a higher vampire), but turned it into being a part of my original universe. I really love Toussaint in the game, very southern France alike, it's fun.

I don't love him in a romantic way, but he is really cool. I think I prefer him in the books, but I also love him in the game (in which they erased a bit his feminism, pro-lgbt and pro-choice positions and that's why I prefer him in the books). I hope Pedro Pascal will be his actor in the tv show... Same here, I won't spoil, but let's say I relate a lot to his questions about the world.

I like this sweetie pie (she is only a sweetie pie in the books... wtf Netflix I don't understand why did you do that). We don't see her a lot but... she is cute.

I love Yennefer too (more in the books than in the game btw, in the game I chose Triss), but I think these five really are my favourite. I really like Ciri. And of course, Geralt is really cool. I love his character, his development, his relationship with Yen and Ciri. Jaskier/Dandelion is cool too... But... eh... He cheated on Anna Henrietta so jail now. You can't cheat on her. She is perfect.

i’m sitting on a ton of fanmixes that i’ve made over the past two years, and i can’t decide in which order to draw covers and post them, so i’ve decided to ask your opinion! (+ i decided to share these because of this very kind anon ask!! thank you!)

my fanmixes are narrative-based playlists of music that follow an already-established story by sapkowski or a canon-compliant plot or character development which i headcanon for them. each of these fanmixes is about a specific character, dynamic, or setting from the witcher book series; if you want an example of what my fanmixes are like, here’s a link to some i’ve already posted. (note how, when i post a fanmix, under a read-more i go through all the lyrics of each song and explain how they relate to the story/character/dynamic!)

every fanmix listed on this poll is already complete, each has between 12 and 26 songs

i tried to hint at the feel of each playlist by listing the decade(s) and genre(s) they pull from, but note that the mixes usually have a few outlier songs from another decade or genre, and are not strictly composed of only what is listed, it’s just to give you an idea

the results of this poll will determine which order i publish them in (most votes = published first, least votes = published last), but i will be publishing them all at some undecided point in the future

The Witcher Iv only gone through the Witcher 3 so I'm not familiar with the previous games, so I will do research to write for some of the more popular characters like Vernon Roche and Iorveth

This is based on the game version the characters not the tv show. I still like the show I just think there should be more content for the game characters ( though I might make an exemption for Jaskier I love him too much to exclude)

I'm not finished with the book series yet but I may included details from it and reference book only stuff or use characterization if there isn't enough detail for them in the games, I will probably add more characters when I'm finished with the books, like Milva
