“Seemed like Kim Taehyung was enjoying himself a little too much tonight,” Seungcheol said, breaking the silence. His eyes stayed fixed on the road, his tone aiming for nonchalance, though the sharp edge betrayed him.
You glanced at him, your eyebrows arching in confusion. “Taehyung? He was just being friendly. That’s his nature.”
“Friendly?”
Seungcheol straightened on the driver’s seat, his hands tightening on the steering wheel, veins prominent as they bulged.
The soft nightlight cast a gentle glow on his face, accentuating the perfect features that seemed to be carved with meticulous care. His sharp jawline, the curve of his lips, the long lashes that rested against his cheek—it was unfair how effortlessly beautiful he looked, even when his expression was marred by frustration.
No one could look as handsome as he did, even when he was angry.
The way his brows furrowed in thought, the slight twitch of his lips as if he was holding back words he wasn’t ready to say—it all drew you in, even when you wanted to be mad at him. There was a rawness in his expression, a vulnerability that flickered beneath the surface of his frustration, and it tugged at something deep within you.
You swallowed hard, your throat tightening.
Why couldn’t he stop being so damn attractive, just for a second?
“He practically camped out by your side all evening. Offering to get you drinks, giving you those looks—”
“Looks?” you interrupted, your voice sharper and more defensive than you intended. “You’re imagining things, Seungcheol.”
“Am I?” His eyes flicked toward you, narrowing. “Because from where I was standing, he couldn’t stop smiling at you.”
“Well, he does have a beautiful smile,” you said with a casual shrug.
Seungcheol’s glare sharpened. “Is that supposed to be funny? Am I supposed to be laughing?”
You tilted your head, feigning innocence. “I don’t know, you thought ‘see you friday’ was funny."
His jaw tightened as his hands gripped the steering wheel harder, his knuckles whitening. “He had a crush on you in high school, you know that, right?”
You let out a short laugh, shaking your head. “That was ten years ago. Taehyung was being polite, Seungcheol. Maybe you’ve forgotten what that looks like.”
“I know what politeness looks like. And I know when a guy’s flirting with my—”
He stopped abruptly, the unfinished sentence hanging awkwardly in the air.
You turned to face him fully, searching his profile as his jaw tightened further, the muscle twitching with the effort to hold back whatever was on his mind.
“Your what?” you asked, challenging, your voice quieter, but no less intense.

@vmprsm replied to your post “Raw MKV rip of Mission Impossible: Fallout:...”:
Theoretically, if one wanted their own copies of the MI movies safely on a hard drive....where would one go?
I mean, there is a site where you can acquire a lot of movies via torrent. I tend to use (rot13) 1337k.gb and I got a heavily discounted Windscribe VPN subscription that I use on almost all of my devices.
But my thing is that... I want commentary reels and special features, and sometimes you'll download a movie but the fucking subtitles are either bad or they become desynced over time and I haaaaate it.
So I've been gathering bits and pieces over the past year to get a Plex system going in my house and it works like a fucking DREAM. But it requires some investment. If you just want to have a few local copies of your favorite movies, this is way overkill. But me, I am canceling all of my family's streaming services and pivoting to our Plex.
So what I have for actually getting the files:
I don't have this model but it's similar to this, a Pioneer External Blu-ray Reader. It sits on a little shelf and is connected to my PC by a USB cable. (I think I got mine for around 68 bucks so you can wait for a sale.)
I use MakeMKV which will rip the big honking raw files from a Blu-ray and leave them as matroshka (.mkv) files.
Because these raw files are ENORMOUS, I compress them in Handbrake. Handbrake is wildly powerful, can convert file formats and make them super small. I have my Handbrake set up special to dump all the non-English language subtitles and audio tracks to save space.
(SUPER BONUS TIP FOR HANDBRAKE: If you have a dedicated GPU, you can give Handbrake permission to use it, and it'll compress shit literally 10x faster, love it.)
At the moment, I am using a Western Digital portable 5TB external harddrive because it was one sale and I couldn't beat the price. Eventually, I want to upgrade to two 10TB HDDs so I can keep a full backup of everything I'm ripping. Because this is a bit of a time and energy commitment and I don't wanna lose all my progress here!
At first I was running Plex off my desktop PC and that worked totally fine, but my family hates having to touch my desktop to wake it up every time, so I very recently grabbed one of these guys:
This is a Beelink Mini PC S12 Pro. It is small enough to fit in my hand but it is a speedy little demon that runs Windows 11. (And eventually I am gonna use it to firewall out ads from our entire home network, I'm pumped for that project but ANYWAY.)
The upside of these mini boys is that instead of being a hefty workhorse like my main computer, this is small and has a low-power draw.
So I moved my Plex Media Server to the mini PC, plugged in my 5TB drive of movies, and now everyone in the house can easily stream anything I have added to the library.
This is what it looks like, if you're curious. Any device in the house that runs Plex and is signed in can select any movie or TV show I have and just watch it like it was Netflix or something.
A month ago, I has like.... 65 movies? Now I'm ripping a few and we're gonna break 100 soon.
"But Arc, where do you get so many blurays!"
My local library.
When I lived in Broward County, FL, I had an extravagantly wonderful library system. Tax dollars at fucking WORK, y'all. Now I live in Georgia and the library system is not nearly as good, but I have still gotten my hands on a frankly ridiculous amount of blurays. Every week I'm picking up 3 to 10 movies or shows, taking them home, making good copies, and returning them.
All of this is an investment and it is work. But as someone who built my computer, built my keyboard, cracked my 3DS and PS Vita-- this is fun to me! This is what I love to do. And through doing it, I've seen more movies in the past year than the last ten years put together.
So yeah, I can't recommend this to everyone, but if you wanna get out of your subscriptions and to just have high quality shit on demand, this is what I'm doing.
Cannot stress this enough tho, if this seems interesting to you: wait for sales. All the components here go on steep sale if you wait patiently. Take your time assembling the parts and keep in mind that shit is modular, you can upgrade parts later.

The plantation was a school of political instruction during the Civil War, although it was the masters who struggled to learn the lessons slaves were teaching. Jack Savage did his part. Only weeks out of a stint in the workhouse and under constant surveillance, he made a successful break in February 1862, the very night he was to be removed to Silk Hope with his wife, Amey. Savage managed to stay out for "upwards of a year ... in the dense Carolina swamp near the McPherson plantation in company with `Charles Lucas' [another Gowrie slave] and other runaway Negroes." In this, obviously, he had help. Jack Savage emerged from the swamp after a year, half starved, his owner said. But he stayed only a month before he threatened to run again, saying "he had not come home to be killed up with work." Manigault, whose family had owned Savage since 1839, finally sold him in the fall of 1863, allegedly to a man in Columbus, Georgia, for the hefty sum of $1,800. Rumors persisted that Savage had foiled the sale and was still in the area.On Gowrie, marronage was an antislavery strategy used especially by slaves--men and women alike.
In the epic struggle of Louis Manigault and Jack Savage, sale was not the final chapter. More than two years after the Savannah River plantations fell to Sherman's troops, Louis Manigault was still exiled from Gowrie, reduced to scrounging for river news from "negroes" he bumped into in the Savannah rice mills. He did not get back to Gowrie until March 1867. But when he arrived, who was there to receive him but Jack Savage, "the last one I should have dreamt of," as he put it, advancing to meet him, hand extended in greeting. "We Southerners knew nothing of the Negro character," the exiled master finally acknowledged on his one brief return to the home place. In the struggle for Gowrie, Jack Savage outlasted the master.

Welcome to Villa Albicini, a 1927 Italian Baroque style villa in Macon, Georgia. Love how the facade looks so old. It has 3bds, 3ba, $1.350M.
Very classy entrance hall leads to a central rotunda.
The dome has some peeling and needs some new paint- I wonder how it would look with clouds.
The Chinese wallpaper looks like a vintage painting and the fireplace is surrounded by mirrored squares which is unusual. This room combines and old and new quite seamlessly.
The dining room is a contrast of blue & white - love the chandelier. Two double doors open to a sunroom.
Details of the beautiful original marble fireplace surround.
Love a kitchen that still has a taste of the original. It's been updated, but just enough.
What a cute pantry.
Den with a marble fireplace and a quadrant of walls with built-in shelving.
Oh, wow, look at the stairs. What is that little flap in the wall? The only information I could find suggests that it's an interior mail slot.
A pretty primary bedroom has a soft pink tile with green accents.
A beautiful stained glass window in the tub.
Gold plumbing fixtures give it an extra air of luxury.
Secondary bedroom with neutral striped wallpaper.
The en-suite is original. Love the green sink and toilet. I guess there isn't a seat to fit that toilet.
Isn't this interesting? Look at the storage up here.
I think that the white ladder leads up here to the roof top where there's a great view of the garden.
Wonderful architectural features on the grounds.
This would be beautiful again with some TLC. Property measures 1.59 acres.

Sorry if that's a dumb question but what is actually going on with milk in America right now?
Like, many years ago I heard that raw milk is basically so good and healthy and all but it wasn't really a big thing at the time. (I can tell by your post tho that that might have been misinformation back then already.)
Now it seems like milk was made political because certain groups just kinda... claimed raw milk as theirs?
I am so confused. I am genuinely from a place where milk is not that political (it is a bit but not to THAT extent) and I am just confused about what's going on.
Especially because I did NOT get my information from groups with a certain mindest politics-wise. Or let's just say it how it is. It seems to me like right-wingers are just fucking claiming milk and it fucks me up so much because how is milk even related to politics in the slightest?
Again, sorry if this is a dumb question and kind of a rant but right-wingers and anti-science people infuriate and confuse me. I am confused.
(Also I don't know what's wrong with raw milk but that might be because it's not a big deal in my country anyway. Never seen raw milk for sale anywhere. I wouldn't be surprised if it's banned entirely tbh.
Alright, buckle up because this is gonna a long answer.
For some background, food has always been tied to politics in America whether people realize it or not. The most recent popularity of raw milk in America being associated with right wing politics and conservatives has its ties in conspiracies that the government is "poisoning" us by "tampering" with our food. Additionally, it can be tied back to the libertarian ideas of having absolutely no government involvement in anything ever including food safety. This is the same thought process behind the whole bullshit of "if you can't pronounce an ingredient then it must be bad for you" as if that makes any fucking sense.
A bunch of bullshit studies that were disproven claimed that raw milk contained more vitamins and minerals and enzymes that were destroyed when milk was pastureuzed, making the milk less nutritional. This is of course bullshit as the only difference between raw milk and safe not raw milk is that it gets pastureuzed. Pastureuzing milk is simply the process of heating milk to just below boiling for a period of time to kill bacteria, viruses, and any other pathogens in the milk. You can even pasteurize milk in your home on your stove top!
But it's become a major talking point and a way for conservatives to make themselves feel important and different, by going against policies in place to make them safe, and to "stick it to the man," so to speak. Conservative and right-wing rhetoric is dependent on being right all the time even when they're very obviously not. It's also very anti-science as, if something cannot be easily explained or is considered a waste of time or money, regardless of how vitally important that thing is, it is cast aside and deemed useless.
Now you mentioned America so I assume you're not from here and this where this gets messy. Because unlike other countries, America often allows states to make their own individual laws on certain issues. For example, regardless of where you are in America, you cannot have an alcoholic drink or purchase alcohol unless you are 21 years or older, as this is a federal law and not a state law. But for selling raw milk, that is a state law, which means all 50 states can make their own decisions on whether or not to allow the sale of raw milk. South Carolina allows the sale of raw milk but it's neighboring state of Georgia does not. To further complicate things, some states don't allow raw milk to be sold in stores but it can be sold on farms.
Finally, the main problem with raw milk is that it is full of (and I'm not joking when I say this) shit. Cows are not clean animals, and while modern milking practices do require that their udders be cleaned with antiseptic prior to milking, it doesn't get rid of everything. Pasteurization is a life saving process to ensure safety when consuming milk as heating it kills off common bacteria that may be present due to contamination from the cow's udders being dirty as well as bacteria that may be in the cow's body and perfectly fine for the cow but would absolutely wreck a human body. The most common bacteria include salmonella, e. coli, and listeria, all of which would make someone incredibly sick and possibly even hospitalize or kill them. The good thing is that those bacteria and other bacteria, viruses, and microbes present in raw milk that could harm humans all die at around 165°F/74°C, and pasteurization heats milk to 182°F/83°C, killing off those microbes and making the milk safe to consume.
So, in short, right-wingers and conservatives are using raw milk as their new anti-government anti-science talking point, just like did with the COVID vaccine, and like they did regular vaccines before that. Don't drink raw milk because best case scenario you'll get sick and worst case scenario you'll die. Also, as a bonus, here is my favorite instance of fuck around and find out from a state legalizing the sale of raw milk:

Basically this guy pushed for raw milk to be legalized in West Virginia and when it was he drank a bunch of it in celebration and a few hours later they found him sick as hell on the couch in his office. It still makes me laugh whenever I see it lol

baby, please - part 2

You've had an awful lot of wine this week, and your date with Santiago is going well. Very, very well.
Warnings: Alcohol drinking. Bad descriptions of people, I'm sorry. Terrible descriptions of flirting. Again, like one or two swear words. The ending was a little cheesy but I had to end it somehow! Proofread but lazily done. Word count: 3,704 F!Reader, no use of Y/N.
Part 1 ● Series Masterlist ● Part 3
You greeted your friends at your door with big smiles and huge hugs, ones where you were squeezing each other to death as you prattle on about how long it’s been since you last saw each other and how tonight had been a long time coming.
Obviously, you were ready on time for them after leaving work late. Your hair may still be a little damp after your shower, but you were all wearing your fancy pyjamas anyway, so it didn’t really matter. You had set out an Instagram worthy platter of fruits, cheeses, crackers, and small desserts, which you knew would be devoured before the night ends. And if not, you could use them for your lunches for the week.
You usher your friends into your apartment, practically shoving filled wine glasses in their hands as they went and sat down in your armchair by your window. It had belonged to your grandmother, once upon a time, and you’d inherited it after her death. She wasn’t the nicest person around, and you were surprised she decided to give you anything. It was a comfortable armchair, and only needed a little bit of TLC and revamping for it to make the move to Florida with you.
“How are you and Georgia doing?” you asked Elizabeth. “Have you found a wedding venue yet?”
Elizabeth, your first friend you’d made in Florida, waved her ebony hand at you as she took a big gulp of her red wine. Preferably going by Beth, you both met at your first day at the company. She exuded confidence that commanded attention wherever she went. You had taken over Elizabeth’s job when she left a year after you arrived, to move into interior design. She had her own very successful company, where she had a yearlong waitlist for clients asking to redesign their homes. She had been with Georgia for as long as you could remember, and Beth wasted no time in planning their wedding as soon as Georgia proposed. “Don’t get me started. I personally think we should do destination wedding, because how often can you go and get married in Greece? But she wants a simple wedding, just close friends and family. She wants to save money for the IVF, you know? So…we’re at a little bit of an impasse.”
“Do what I did and flip a coin. Andy won that one.” Courtney smirked. A redhead, gym nut, and overachiever, Courtney was your most down to earth friend who had once been a client for the company. She was the one you went to for sound advice, since she had no problem telling you her true opinion, even if it wasn’t what you wanted to hear. Recently married to Andrew, she’d made a few good-natured jokes at her wedding about your single life before you and one of the groomsmen hit it off and spent the night together. You and Courtney had ribbed at each other the day after about it.
Beth rolled her dark brown eyes. “You white people and your coin flips. I’ll treat it like my business. Focus on the pros and cons and see what flows well with our vision.”
“You could always go to Greece for the honeymoon,” Gabrielle pointed out. She was every family man’s wet dream; blonde, blue eyed, and the epitome of a ‘mom’. She married young, deciding that after working for a few years then getting pregnant, being a mother was her dream job, and you were proud of her for it. She had a four-year-old son and an eighteen-month-old daughter, and with her husband, Matthew, they made a dream team; they were at every soccer game, every play date, every bake sale, and still managed to function and pull themselves together every day. You applauded her. You’d met her on a chance meeting at your first exhibition, when she was still working as an assistant at her old job. You had immediately clicked.
Beth hummed. “We could, but we were looking at France for a honeymoon. We thought we would go to Cannes in time for the film festival.”
“You going to jump right into trying for kids?” Courtney asked.
Beth nodded. “If our plans work out, our first round will be just before our honeymoon. Georgia’s probably looking at donor profiles right now.”
Your evening went on about more wedding plans, how Gabrielle’s kids were doing, Courtney’s future plans for kids, and how her new house was getting on. It was nice, seeing your friends again. Sure, you had occasional one on one time, and you all had your group chat, although that wasn’t as prolific as it used to be, you were still in communication with each other, but there was nothing like being with your best friends all together. They really did melt your stress away. You all were three bottles of wine down and the food board was lacking before the usual topic of your dating life came up.
“So,” Beth calls your name, smirking at you. “Anything new with you?”
You shrugged at her, topping up your glass of the white wine you’d been enjoying. “Nothing much. I’ve got a date on Saturday, with Emily’s neighbour, you know, my co-worker?”
“Ooh, cute, what’s he like?”
“His name is Santiago, he’s ex-army.”
“Sounds stiff.”
“Emily said he’s nice. And good looking.”
“Have you seen a picture of him?” Courtney asked.
You shake your head and Beth laughs. “How do you know if you’re going to like him?”
“I’ll just have to go out on the date and find out,” you say teasingly, taking a sip of your wine. “You never know, he might stick around.”
You ignore the slight pang in your chest as your friends laugh along with you.
Maybe it was because all you did was spend time at the office and all your days were blurring into one, but it was suddenly Saturday, and you had to make yourself get ready for your date with Santiago (or Santi, as he told you to call him). You had both kept up with a few texts here and there during the week, the conversation not actually going anywhere other than talking about the date. That was fine with you, but you would like to have some sort of idea of what kind of guy Santi was.
You’d pondered embarrassingly long and hard about what to wear on your date with Santi before deciding to just go out and find something new. So here you were, with Gabrielle and her daughter, Luna, who had nodded off quite some time ago, her mouth hanging open from her position in her stroller as her mother slowly rocked her back and forth as you browsed through the clothes.
“So are you looking forward to tonight?”
You gave a light shrug before nodding, looking through the rack of clothes opposite your blonde friend. “I guess. Yeah, sure. It’ll be nice to go somewhere that isn’t the office, you know?”
Gabrielle gave a hum as she nodded. “I get that. I don’t get out much for me anymore. What about this one?”
You look up from the assortment of shirts you were looking at to see Gabrielle holding up a forest green, thin strapped dress. It was cute, but it wasn’t for a casual date. You crinkle your nose and shake your head. Gabrielle nodded before hanging it back up and browsing again.
Your turn back to the shirts. “Can you get a babysitter for the kids?”
“Matthew doesn’t trust anyone to look after them, and he doesn’t want to burden our parents.” Gabrielle rolled her eyes. “I tell him all the time, taking a break every now and then isn’t going to traumatise the kids, but he just doesn’t listen.”
“Can he not watch the kids?”
“He likes doing things as a family. I love him, really, I do. He’s amazing and a great dad, but he’s so…so…”
“Clingy?”
“Yes! No. More like he’s severely ‘family orientated’.” She groaned, briefly closing her eyes before looking at you. “Not like that’s a bad thing – “
“I know what you mean, don’t worry about it.” You give her a reassuring smile. “I’d offer to look after them, but with my hours at the moment – “
Gabrielle cut off your rant with a wave of a hand. “Don’t even explain yourself, I know how busy you are.”
“Maybe when the launch is over – “
“I’ll definitely take you up on that offer when the launch is over.”
You grin before you move over to the next set of clothes before a flash of deep red caught your eye. You pick up the dress from the rack, turning it around in your hands. It was cute, long sleeved, and styled as a button up shirt dress. It cinched in at the waist with a matching belt.
And it was on sale.
It would be good for the date, and for that business meeting you had next week. You were sold.
“I’m getting this,” you said to Gabrielle, putting the dress back before looking through the rest for your size. You pull it from the others, giving it a final once over before hanging it over your arm as you approached Gabrielle, who was also giving it a once over.
She nodded. “Pretty. You should get some new shoes to go with it.”
“I already have those black knee-high boots I bought last month, I haven’t worn those yet.”
Gabrielle grinned. “You’re gonna be a knockout.”
After having a quick lunch with Gabrielle and saying your goodbyes to her and Luna, you made your way home to prepare yourself for your date. You took a nice long, relaxing soak in your bath, using your favourite vanilla scented bodywash. After the water was long cooled, you climbed out and took your time to dry off, moisturising and placing on a face mask, using some of your free time to catch up on your Netflix show you had all but nearly abandoned due to your busy schedule.
Halfway through an episode, you gave Santi another text, telling him you were looking forward to your date. It didn’t take him long to text back, telling you the same and that he will see you there at 7:30pm.
After a few more episodes of your show, you had to get ready, or you’d be late. Your face mask was removed long ago, your skin was glowing, and soft, ready for your usual date make up. You chose to go for a red lip tonight, to go with your new red dress. You style your hair before finally putting on the dress and boots. You grab your bag and look at yourself in the mirror.
You’re damn hot, if you do say so yourself.
You called an Uber, intending on having some wine with dinner. You text your friends your Uber details as you got into the cab and shared your location (you’d heard too many horror stories), thanking the driver before you made your way to the restaurant, five minutes to spare for the reservation. You confirmed to your friends that you’d arrived okay and made your way into the restaurant. You smiled at the host, giving Santi’s name before being led to a table of two towards the front, by the window.
You thank the host and take a seat, placing your bag over the back of your chair as a waiter, barely older than eighteen, quickly comes over and hands you a menu. He introduces himself as Jacob, and he was your ‘server for the evening’. He spouted off the specials they had on that night. You thanked him before ordering a medium glass of wine with a smile. He walked away quickly as took a quick look around. You had to hand it to Santi, Bella Cucina was a nice place. It was dimly lit, but not so much that it was too dark; just enough to be considered cosy. The music was softly playing in the background, blending in with the lull of conversation of the other patrons.
You looked through the menu, not sure if you wanted pasta or pizza, or to try something new. You gave Jacob a thank you as he bought your white wine, taking a sip as you looked back through the menu. A mushroom and parmesan risotto sounded good, in a creamy sauce and spinach. It would definitely go well with your white wine.
The question of your name causes you to look up from the menu. Your eyes widen and your heart skips a beat as you look into the molten brown eyes of the most good-looking human being you’d ever seen, with a head of dark curls your fingers were itching to run through. He was dressed in a white button up, the sleeves pushed up to his elbows, revealing his toned and golden hued forearms. He wore dark pants, which were displaying just thick his thighs were, which already had you nearly drooling. With his chiselled jawline, accentuated by a hint of stubble, he exuded a sense of rugged masculinity and confidence. You had to practically lift your jaw up off the floor.
He gives you a smile that was almost a smirk at your blatant ogling, before he holds his hand out to you. “I’m Santi.”
You blink at him before standing, reaching to shake his hand. “Sorry. It’s nice to meet you, Santi.” You introduce yourself.
“Nice to meet you too. Have you been waiting long?”
You shake your head as you both take your seats opposite each other. “Nope, not at all. Just arrived, actually.”
“Okay, good. Did you get a chance to look at the menu? Know what you’re having?”
“I was looking at the mushroom risotto, it sounds amazing.”
“I’ll be sure to take a look.”
You hummed in agreement before picking up your menu again, only to give yourself something to do as you subtly checked him out again.
Emily was right, he was really good looking. Like, just-your-type good looking. You couldn’t stop staring at him. He had a slight crease in his brow as he frowned at the menu, his full, well-defined lips slightly pouting. They looked like they held a promise of tender moments and stolen kisses. Every subtle movement and gesture projected an effortless confidence that was undeniably attractive. You made a mental note to give Emily a bunch of flowers, or a fruit basket as thanks.
Or you needed to get a grip. Although handsome, stunning, practically striking, Santi is just like any other guy you’ve dated.
You avert your gaze as he places down his menu. “I think I’ll have the spaghetti and meatballs. Keep it simple.” He gives you a closed lipped smile.
Jacob made his way over as soon as you closed your menus. After Santi ordered his drink (a standard beer), you briefly discussed appetisers and sides. You both agreed to split a few sides with your mains, giving Jacob a smile of thanks as he walked away to put in your order.
You both went quiet. It was a little awkward, as all first dates were, especially blind dates. You expected it.
“So what is it you do, Santi? Emily mentioned you were ex-army?”
Santi hesitated for a moment before nodding. “Yeah, Special Ops, actually. Now I’m just consulting.” He went quiet for a moment before lightly shrugging a shoulder. “Needed to settle down, somewhere. Did a lot of moving around, you know?”
You nod in interest, taking a sip of your almost forgotten wine. “Been anywhere interesting?”
“Mostly South America. Thanks.” Santi gave a nod to Jacob as his beer was placed in front of him. “Nowhere exciting really. Didn’t really see the sights.”
“Maybe one day, now that you’re just consulting.”
Santi hummed in acknowledgement before resting his elbows on the table, leaning forward towards you. “You work in marketing with Emily, right? What do you do in your free time?”
You give a short laugh. “Unfortunately, not an awful lot. I like reading but I haven’t picked a book up for probably a year now. I tried yoga once and hated it. I couldn’t shut off.”
He chuckled. “Yeah, I get that.”
“What about you? What do you do in your free time?”
“I jog, and hike sometimes. I occasionally play guitar, but not so much recently.”
Conversation starts to flow a little easier as you wait for your food. You found out that he had a big family but due to his old job, he hadn’t been around much, so they barely spoke. Your heart broke a little for him when he mentioned his father had died when he was young, and his mother a few years ago when he was away in Colombia. You had given his hand a squeeze at that. He had said he was fine, that ‘his boys’ were there, in Florida, and they were his family really.
You mentioned that you weren’t overly close with your family either since they didn’t quite agree with your career path, and the fact you moved away as soon as you could. He got a bit of a kick from that. You talked about your college years, and Santi his early days in training. You shared a few laughs about the things you both got up to, which would make the devil blush.
Once your food arrived, you ordered more drinks, since your first ones had long been emptied. The same again, white wine and a beer.
“This is a really nice place,” you comment as you tuck into your risotto.
Santi nodded. “Yeah, my buddy Frankie brings his wife here all the time. He recommended this place to me.”
“Take all your dates here?” you teased.
He laughed, looking up at you from his food. “Just you.”
You felt your cheeks warm slightly as you smirked, taking a bite from the side of greens you’d ordered.
You talked about what movies you both liked. Surprisingly, Santi was partial to a cheesy romance movie, and a sucker for when the underdog comes out on top. But his favourite movies, unironically, where the Mission: Impossible movies. You teased him good naturedly about that, something he threw straight back at you, laughing.
You talked about your favourite music. Santi was a die-hard Metallica fan and had been since he was a kid. He it had always gotten him ‘in the zone’ back in his army days. You briefly touched upon that, but his, respectfully shot that down. He’d mentioned he’d been out of the game for a while, since he needed surgery on his back, and his bad knees. You didn’t pry, it wasn’t any of your business.
You also talked about your friends. How you had a close group of three friends, but since kids and marriage were coming into play, you hadn’t seen them as much as you used to. Which was fine, of course. Santi then told you of his friends, his brothers from the army. How they were his chosen family, and how he’d do anything for them. He mentioned Tom, someone who he lost half a year ago before he officially retired.
“Oh, I’m so sorry, that’s awful for you.”
Santi shrugged, giving a small smile that didn’t contain any happiness. “It’s okay. It’s a risk we take with the job.”
You both mentally decide to move on and change the subject. You finished your meals and opted out of dessert, ordering more drinks for yourselves instead. It was probably your fourth glass of wine, and you were feeling light but not quite tipsy. The restaurant was slowly emptying, and you found yourself feeling slightly down that the date was coming to an end. You found Santi Garcia to be a captivating paradox, a mix of strength, charm, and intellect in a way that was utterly irresistible.
At this point, Emily was getting a bouquet, and a fruit basket.
You mention getting the check, and seeing if you both wanted a coffee somewhere else. That was when Santi suddenly tensed, and you blinked at him in surprise. Had you said the wrong thing?
“I should really be getting home.”
“Oh. Sure, okay, not a problem.”
He pulled a face, squirming in his chair, uncomfortable. “Listen, I don’t want to sound rude, or anything but…” Santi licked his lips nervously before looking at you apologetically. “I only agreed to this because it got Emily off my back. Don’t get me wrong, you’re really nice, but she’s been hounding me for months about setting me up with someone, and – “
“She can’t keep her nose out of it?” you ask, raising an eyebrow in amusement as you grinned at him.
Santi sighed, his shoulders relaxing just a smidge as he nodded at you. “Yeah.”
You shook your head. “Don’t worry about it. I only said yes because she sounded really excited about setting me up. I’m not interested in anything serious, at all.”
His eyebrows shot up in surprise. “Okay. It’s just that Emily had mentioned that your friends were married, and you were – “
You roll your eyes. Fuck the fruit basket. “She was wrong. I have no desire for relationship. We can end this here. I’ve had a great night regardless, if you don’t want to see me again, that’s no problem.”
Santi studied you for a moment before he leaned forward towards you, that smirk on his face again. “In that case, I’m going to be really bold here and tell you I think you’re really attractive and I’d like to make you feel good for the night, if you’re interested?”
Your breath hitched, and you felt a shiver go down your spine. That was bold. And you were all for it.
You cleared your throat, looking for Jacob to ask for the check. You smile at your server, telling him you had a fantastic night, food was excellent, and you would be coming again. You turned back to look at Santi as the teen walked off. You smirked. “Your place or mine?”
“What kind of gentleman would I be if I didn’t get you home?” he smirked.

Picasso Masterpiece 'Femme à la montre' Sells for $139 Million at Auction
A Picasso masterpiece entitled “Femme à la montre” fetched more than $139 million on Wednesday, becoming the second most valuable work by the artist ever sold at auction.
The 1932 oil painting took center-stage at a two-day event at Sotheby’s in New York, at the sale of late philanthropist Emily Fisher Landau’s private collection.
The piece, which measures 51¼ x 38 inches (130 x 96.5 centimeters), depicts Picasso’s lover and “golden muse” Marie-Thérèse Walter, who featured in many of his portraits.
According to the auction house, the portrait is from one of the most prolific years of the Spanish artist’s career, which was the subject of an entire exhibition organized by the Musée Picasso in Paris and London’s Tate Modern in 2018.
In a statement announcing the sale in September, Julian Dawes, Sotheby’s head of Impressionist & Modern Art for the Americas, said: “Picasso’s ‘Femme à la Montre’ is a masterpiece by every measure. Painted in 1932 — Picasso’s ‘annus mirabilis’ — it is full of joyful, passionate abandon yet at the same time it is utterly considered and resolved. Its bold primary colors sing from the five-foot-tall-canvas.”
Picasso first met Walter in Paris in 1927 when she was 17 years old and he was still married to his first wife, Olga Khokhlova, a Russian-Ukrainian ballet dancer. Walter would become the inspiration for some of his most sought-after canvases, drawings and sculptures.
As time went on, Picasso found it increasingly difficult to hide his feelings for Walter from his work — something that became clear during his first large-scale retrospective and finally ended his marriage.
The artist painted “Femme à la montre” in August 1932, soon after the retrospective at the Galerie Georges Petit in Paris ended.
According to Sotheby’s, “the sense of release from keeping secrets about his affair seem to have spilled out onto this extraordinary canvas, in which he gives full painterly rein to new-found freedoms, drenching the painting in strong primary colors and beautiful forms, while at the same time paying careful attention to every small detail, creating a composition that is both intensely complex and deeply harmonious.”
Picasso died in 1973, and Walter in 1977.
The painting is one of about 120 from the collection of Fisher Landau, a world renowned contemporary art collector who died earlier this year aged 102, according to The Art Newspaper.
The two-part sale, which concludes Thursday, also includes works by Mark Rothko, Andy Warhol, Willem de Kooning and Georgia O’Keeffe. The collection is expected to sell for over $400 million overall. Other big-ticket items auctioned on Wednesday included one of Jasper Johns’ iconic American flag paintings, which went for $41 million, and an Ed Ruscha artwork — an oil painting emblazoned with the word “Boss” — that fetched more than $39.4 million.
Fisher Landau began seriously collecting after receiving an insurance payout following an armed robbery of her jewelry at her New York home in 1969.
In an interview for an exhibition catalog, quoted in the Sotheby’s statement, she said of the episode: “Even though Lloyds of London paid up, there was no way to replace that collection. It was so beautiful. And they got it in one fell swoop…. I was devastated. But I decided that I didn’t want the jewelry any more. I now had seed money for a collection.”
Last year, Picasso’s most curious painting of Walter, in which she appears as a tentacled sea creature, sold for $67.5 million at Sotheby’s in New York.
Picasso’s portraits of Walter have become highly sought-after, with his other 1932 works “Femme assise près d’une fenêtre (Marie-Thérèse),” selling for $103.41 million in 2021, and “Nude, Green Leaves and Bust,” selling for $106.5 million in 2010.
In May 2015, Picasso’s “Les femmes d’Alger (Version “O”) sold at Christie’s in New York for $179.4 million — at that time, the highest price ever paid for a work of art at auction.
By Lianne Kolirin.

I really liked these questions and thought it might be fun to add my two cents, as an appreciator of the spooky fella, and also thought it would be fun to add a little detail to how I write for him in Hush, Sweet Charlotte. I will provide a link below in case anyone wants to reblog for themselves!
1)In a short summary, what was their childhood like? College years? What are they like now?
The Crane I write is a combination of several sources I like. Batman: Scarecrow Year One provides his tragic youth, raised by his abusive great grandmother. For his high school and college experiences, I like the Batman: Year One 1995 Annual that includes the bullying endured from Bo Griggs, and the vengeance Jonathan exacts on him and Sherry Squires, Bo’s girlfriend. For his Scarecrow persona, I like Tim Sale’s design and the nursery rhyme motif. I think it’s very fitting for a character denied a lot of compassion in his youth to revert or regress in a sense. There’s a little of Fear State and Arkham Knight in there too, I basically throw them all in and shake them around like I’m seasoning a package of thin cut fries. He is someone who comes off as very cold and harsh, he does not mince his words. Academia is important to him but teaching becomes a source of yet another disappointment, as none of his colleagues share his passion or understanding of his dedicated focus, and his students mostly seem…how does one put it delicately…imbecilic.
2) Do they have corvid or any other animal friends?
He has a pet Corvid named Craw, a reference towards his other birds he’s known to have sometimes in comics. He very adamantly maintains that the bird is wild and not a pet.
3)How do they align themselves sexually and gender-wise?
Jonathan strikes me as being mostly asexual. It’s not to be confused with being he’s a prude, or purposely celibate, he just doesn’t engage in a lot of sexual acts for a few reasons- one, he dedicates a lot of his time to his work, when he isn’t teaching or seeing patients, he has his own side hustle of drug trafficking and experimenting, and this does not leave him with much time to pursue other significantly less important activities. He also does not get along well with most people due to his unnerving qualities, he’s very difficult to form close connections with, and he finds most people annoying. He also has difficulty opening up or trusting others due to past experiences in his younger years, he was often humiliated in school by his peers. He identifies as male but is also not adhering to any strong opinion on the matter, as he is used to not fitting in with the toxic male ideology of masculinity. He does not attempt to fit to any constraint and often engages in many activities that have been looked down on consistently in his life and the era in which he grew up. He generally knows how to do a lot of things that are both traditionally masculine and feminine because he had to do a lot for himself.
4)Where did they grow up? Georgia, Gotham, or somewhere else?
He grew up in Arlen, Georgia and moved to Gotham on scholarship to pursue psychology.
5)Do they hone their inner farmer/country person or have they distanced themselves from that life?
It’s not that he hates the farm itself, just that the memories of it were so traumatic. But that also was his home, it was all that he knew. The fields were hard to work, especially in the stifling heat, but it was therapeutic in a sense as it kept his mind busy and had helped to strengthen him. There were some aspects about Georgia he didn’t mind though, the food, for example, when he could access it.
