Sometimes I really wonder if, by virtue of being a trans man, I'm the first firstborn male of my family for several generations, I inherited some kind of bloodline curse for how ridiculously, *hilariously* bad my luck is. Like I'm talking godtier levels of the most random ass shit happening to me. The STORIES I could tell. One time I sat outside of a bar wearing nothing but boxers and haori for like 5 hours when my last car finally died because it took that long to find a way to get it towed. I once lived in a house with a massive black mold problem, had 9 different roommates in the 7 months I lived there, and drove 3 separate people in the most toxic cishet bullshit relationship/friendship/what the fuckship to the mental hospital, enough times that I no longer needed GPS to get there. Someone with a machete tried to break into my work one morning at 5:30am when it was me and 2 other employees in the whole building.

east tennessee native here, and we don't call them "halfbacks" but the problem is just awful. we have about 30,000 people in my town and most of them live in the older, eastern part of town, and range from poverty-level to middle class. but those "halfbacks" have been tearing up our natural ridges, buying up lake property that used to be priced reasonably for the middle class, and selling it all to other rich folks or to development companies, or using them as vacation houses for a month or two a year.
what's worse is that the local government thinks that pandering to them is the best option since they're rich. our tax dollars aren't going towards upkeep and renovation for the older part of town, which has many more people, but to developing the beautiful forested ridges and farmland on the western end into upper-middle class, cookie-cutter house subdivisions, or worse.
then the devils decided to build a community center - which would be great, if it was in a place accessible to everyone. instead, they build it way out on the west end, too far for those without transportation to walk, and the real kicker is that, even though our tax dollars fund and maintain it, they still charge you a fee to enter. it's plain out tailored to the rich folks.
i don't know what to do about it other than get sad. i'm sick and tired of rich folks and northern conservatives buying out our land and then coming down here and pretending we've ever thought like they did, or that they could ever fit in with the salt of the earth when they're the scum of the earth.
"i'm sick and tired of rich folks and northern conservatives buying out our land and then coming down here and pretending we've ever thought like they did, or that they could ever fit in with the salt of the earth when they're the scum of the earth."
tattoo. that. on. my. ass.
man. reading this ask stoked a real ancient anger in me. i don't know what to do except be sad, neither. sad n pissed.
the speed with which the general sentiment went from "fuck appalachia, let's just saw yall off into the ocean" to "i can fix her with my old money and my backwards politics, actually" liked to gave me whiplash.
atp, id rather them stay home, keep their uninformed beliefs about appalachia and let us in peace to do our thing. better than them coming up the holler and cutting down a tree just to make an expensive sign telling us we're spellin hollow wrong

I’m sorry if you’ve already done this, but what’s the general plot of your upcoming fics by title? I can’t wait to read them 🫶
I only have two upcoming fics actually in progress right now and I am happy to talk about them a bit!
A Momentary Radiance - RadioApple For a while I just called this the Southern Gothic. It's another canon-adjacent Alastor-meets-Lucifer-before-he-dies AU. In the wake of his mother's death and struggling in just about every way, Alastor lands on the unhinged idea of making a deal with the devil, and sells Lucifer his soul. Seven years later, the father who never acknowledged him has died, leaving behind a legitimate family that Alastor decides it's time to meet. There's a Southern Gothic trope of the malevolent stranger, who seems good but has evil intentions and brings ruin to a family, and I'm playing on that. Add in the romance between Alastor and Lucifer and we should have a good time together!
And all disastrous things - Alacest The one-shot that has possessed me and is being written right now so I can move on with my week. Human!Alastor with demon!Alastor, and a dash of the shadow. It has no plot, I explain nothing, and it's mostly sex. But the western fandom is really sleeping on Alacest and I am doing my part for the cause. You guys trust me, right? Have I ever steered you wrong before? That's what I thought.
If you're curious at all about the titles, A Momentary Radiance comes from a piece of stage direction in Tennessee Williams' The Glass Menagerie ("like a piece of translucent glass touched by light, given a momentary radiance, not actual, not lasting").
"And all disastrous things" is a fragment plucked from A.C. Swinburne's poem "The Garden of Proserpine". It fits the vibe.
I hope you enjoy the stories when they're out! <3

How genealogy is used to track Black family histories
Tumblr media
Our names are important to us. They tell us who we are and often, who we come from. So imagine suddenly discovering the last name you’ve always carried… might not actually be the name you should have.
Alex Neason began looking into her family’s history after discovering her great grandfather’s name was different from what she believed for her whole life. In her search to discover the story of that last name, she enlisted genealogist Nicka Sewell-Smith.
For Black Americans, genealogy can fill in the blanks left by the legacy of slavery and racism in the U.S. Services like the Freedmen’s Bureau and Slave Voyages provide free access to records and documents to help with that search. We talk about the power of genealogy in fostering knowledge and connection for Black Americans.
Source
If you click on the word “source,” it’ll take you to the article where you’ll see a LISTEN button. It’s a 30-minute audio that discusses the info provided in the article even further. Y’all know I’m big on getting people to trace their lineage. All that “we don’t know where we come from.” Who told you that? Everything in the US is in plain sight. Everything.
Discover your fam.
I assist others when they reach a roadblock, like getting past the “1870 wall.” But you can’t beat the feeling of you discovering them on your own. Unearthing your history, seeing photos, reading stories that were stored, and saying their names that haven’t been said for centuries. I’ve been tracing mine (scanning, logging) since my family reunion in 2005 through oral family history and obituaries (those are records), and since 2011 through databases of US archived records like ancestry.com (purchased by BlackStone) and familysearch.org (free database owned by the Latter-day Saints Church). There are others, but those are the main two I use for comparative results.
Archiving Centers, Census Records & Other Records
There are archiving centers in every state and DC that also keep records for those particular states and the federal capital. There’s a footnote on all records that tells you where they are housed. And please...Don’t just do a simple pedigree chart of your family tree. Get to know your great-aunts, great-uncles and cousins. It’s also helpful for seeing who lived around who (fam often lived next door to each other) and puts more of the pieces together of your complete family story. You can see the land and acres they owned or your fam today still owns, as well as if that land was stolen from them.
US census records go back to year 1790. Depending on when or if your ancestors were enslaved or free: you’ll find them attached to slave logs that have been made available online or kept in archiving centers (you go there), or or they’ll be listed on census records as free persons (1790-1710), free colored male/female (1820-1840), Black (1850-1920), Mulatto (1850-1890, 1910-1920) or Negro (1900, 1930-1950). “New” census documents are put on sites, like ancestry.com, every 10 years. As of 2023, you can only trace from 1950 to 1790. The 1960 census will be out in 2030. How to trace from 1950 to today, birth, death and residential records. So again, depending on the census year, you’ll notice your ancestors racial classification change throughout documents for obvious reasons.
Keep in mind that the the largest slave trade for the United States was the domestic slave trade. In house human trafficking and selling (in addition to property insurance of enslaved people and the selling of enslaved people as the building block of Wall Street’s stock exchange) is how US capitalism was built. So just because you know a lot of your people are from Tennessee, for example, it doesn't mean that’s where that line stayed. I’ve found my ancestors throughout 7 states (so far). Another example, people with Louisiana roots damn near always have ancestors who were trafficked from early Virginia. Going beyond year 1790, records were kept in Christian and Catholic churches and old family history books so most of those documents are scanned online and/or still kept in the churches. I’m talking books books.
If your ancestors walked the Trail of Tears, or were caught as prisoners of war or trafficked to Indian Nations to be enslaved, you’ll find an Oklahoma Indian Territory and Oklahoma Freedmen Rolls section on ancestry.com. You can discover more info on sites, like the Oklahoma Historical Society. (Every state has its own historical society for archived genealogical records.)
Here’s the National Archives.
Also for Oklahoma, you may also find your ancestors in Indian Census Rolls (1855-1940) as [insert tribe] Freedmen, depending if they weren’t rejected through the “blood quantum” Dawes Rolls for not being the new light to white status. You’ll see their application and the listed questions & answers with or without a big void stamp. And on the census, you’ll even see the letter I (pronounced like eye) changed to the letter B. This is also for those in Louisiana.
Freedmen’s Bureau & Bank Records
There were Freedmen’s Bureau records and Freedman’s Savings Bank records in other states. To see if your ancestors had their records in those systems, you can search by their name. The state and age will pop up with people having that name. It’ll give you a wealth of other info, like all of the kids and other fam if they were present or mentioned to the person who logged that info in. With the Freedmen Bank records, you can see how much money your ancestors put in there (that was later stolen from them by way of the United States government), which is still there today. It’s the biggest bank heist in US history (that they try to keep hush hush) with the equivalence of more than $80 million in today’s value stored in there today. Back then, it was valued almost close to $4 million. Stolen wealth met with bootstrap lectures.
Here’s a short video on that heist:
youtube
Today the bank is called the Freedman's Bank Building, located right on Pennsylvania Ave. Plain sight.
Trace your lineage.
There’s a lot more that I can list. But this is just the basics. Like I said before, it’s a more rewarding feeling when you discover your ancestors by yourself. You may reach roadblocks. Take a break. Try going the “Card Catalog” route on ancestry.com’s search engine. Don’t skip the small details.
SN: Slave Voyages isn’t a genealogical site, but rather a database for slave ship logs and the estimates of purchased Africans who became human cargo to be enslaved by country like USA, or by colonizers like Spain, Great Britain, etc.

Orange Mound, a neighborhood in southeastern Memphis, Tennessee, was the first US neighborhood to be built by and for African Americans.
Built on the grounds of the former Deaderick plantation, the Orange Mound subdivision was developed for African Americans in the 1890s to provide affordable land and residences for the less wealthy.
Drugs and crime infected the neighborhood in the 1980s and 1990s. In the first decade of the 21st century, revitalization efforts were started and show positive effects
Tumblr media
Deaderick plantation - 1800s
Orange Mound stands on the site of the former John Deaderick plantation. Between 1825 and 1830, Deaderick (whose family donated the land in Nashville on which the Tennessee State Capitol was built) purchased 5,000 acres (20 km2) of land (from Airways to Semmes) and built a stately house there (at what is now the east side of Airways, between Carnes and Spottswood). In 1890, a developer named Elzey Eugene Meachem purchased land from the Deaderick family and began developing a subdivision for African-Americans, selling lots for less than $100. In the 1890s, a typical Orange Mound house was a small, narrow "shotgun"-style house. A tradition says the name comes from mock-orange trees or shrubs on the grounds of the old homeplace.
Tumblr media
Vibrant African community - 1970s
In the 1970s, Orange Mound was billed as "the largest concentration of Africans in the United States except for Harlem in New York City." The neighborhood provided a refuge for African people moving to the city for the first time from rural areas. Although the streets of the early Orange Mound were unpaved, it was a vibrant community in which a mix of residences, businesses, churches, and cultural centers flourished. During the era of desegregation, Orange Mound entered a period of decline as younger residents began to move away.
Tumblr media
Drugs and crime - 1980s-1990s
Built on strong families, preachers, churches, and civic pride, this was a large community of African homeowners in the 1940s and 1950s. Drugs and alcohol had been an issue for many years. Once crack entered the scene, the community was destroyed with violence and drug dealing. Drug use devastated poor and middle-class families. Since the 1990s, Orange Mound has improved considerably as crime has decreased due to the revitalization of the community
Revitalization - 2000s
In the first decade of the 21st century, Orange Mound became the focus of a variety of revitalization efforts. One such effort, the Orange Mound Collaborative, funded by a Ford Foundation grant, stresses "education through empowerment." The Orange Mound Collaborative's projects include an Early Childhood Institute, and an oral history project in which researchers conduct videotaped interviews with Orange Mound's older residents.

Fire Damaged Homes For Sale
Unlocking The True Worth: How To Determine The Value Of A Fire-Damaged Property
Selling a fire damaged property can be a challenging task, especially when it comes to determining its value. Understanding the factors that influence the worth of a fire-damaged home is essential for making informed decisions. Here's a guide to help you navigate this complex situation.
Tumblr media
Understanding Fire Damage
Fire damage can vary significantly from one property to another. Some homes may have only minor smoke damage, while others might be severely compromised structurally.
To determine the value of a fire-damaged property, you'll need to assess the extent of the damage. This includes looking at both visible damage, such as burned walls and floors, and hidden issues, like smoke infiltration in walls and ceilings.
Get a Professional Assessment
One of the best ways to gauge the value of a fire-damaged property is to hire a professional appraiser. An appraiser can provide an unbiased evaluation, taking into account the type and extent of damage and current market conditions.
They will help you understand how much the fire damage has impacted the property's value compared to similar homes in the area.
Consider Repair Costs
Another critical factor in determining the value of a fire-damaged home is the cost of repairs. Depending on the severity of the damage, repair costs can range from a few thousand dollars to tens of thousands.
It's vital to get estimates from contractors who specialize in fire damage restoration. These estimates will help you understand how much money you may need to invest in the property before it can be sold at market value.
vimeo
Evaluate the Market
The real estate market plays a significant role in valuing any property, including those with fire damage. Research the local market to see how similar properties are being priced.
Look for homes that have recently sold in your area and those currently on the market. This will give you a clearer picture of what buyers are willing to pay for fire-damaged homes.
Disclose Fire Damage
When selling a fire-damaged property, being transparent about the damage is crucial. Most states, including Tennessee, require sellers to disclose any known defects or issues with the property.
Being upfront about the fire damage can help you avoid legal complications down the road and build trust with potential buyers.
Factor in Emotional Impact
Selling a fire-damaged home isn't just about numbers; it can also involve emotional considerations. Homeowners may feel attached to their properties, making the valuation process more challenging.
Understanding the emotional toll of the damage can help you approach the sale with the right mindset, allowing for more rational decision-making.
Explore Selling Options
You have several options when it comes to selling a fire-damaged property. You can choose to sell it as-is, which may attract cash buyers looking for a bargain.
Alternatively, you could invest in repairs to improve its market value. Each option has pros and cons, so weigh them carefully based on your circumstances.
Final Thoughts
Determining the value of a fire-damaged property requires a careful evaluation of multiple factors, including the extent of damage, repair costs, land value, insurance coverage, and market trends.
Whether you choose to restore the property or sell fire damaged homes for sale, understanding these elements will help you make an informed decision.
For homeowners, investors, or buyers, fire-damaged properties can present unique challenges but also opportunities when approached with the right knowledge and strategy.

It Is What It Is & It Is Not Great
Anyone else just existing right now? We have a grace period of about two months, and the incoming regime is making preparations to be every bit as horrible as we'd expect. Possibly worse. Right now I feel like doing one of two things: 1. Sell the house and car and keep only treasured items in storage. Buy a ticket to Amsterdam and spend the next four years wearing out our visas country by country. I think most European countries allow you to stay 3 months (90 days) without a visa, so really, we could even hop country to country without having to worry about that. or 2. Buy some land, just a few acres, build a little house and start growing and raising enough food for our family. This appeals to me. Although I know i could grow and can food, the "raising" part would have to just be chickens for the eggs because I can't kill and eat an animal that I've named and loved. So that's basically all of them. I'm willing to become Ma Ingalls and churn butter and make cheese. I'll isolate myself out on the prairie while the world goes mad. Pretty sure that the mister would choose option 1. I'm trying to keep myself busy. I'm preparing for Christmas like a mad woman. It was raining boxes here on Sunday so I wrapped gifts and tied bows while listening to a murder podcast (I mean, it was a holiday murder). Matt will be home for Thanksgiving, but the Edgewater gang will be in Tennessee, so ours will be a small holiday. I've ordered a pie from Craft Bakery (yum!) and we'll probably go into D.C. to the Christmas Market and spend an evening there. That'll be fun. Fall colors are fading here, but it's still pretty. I sat in my porch spot today and listened to birds sing in this tree.
Tumblr media
Squirrels are rushing around, getting ready for winter. I read somewhere that they forget 75% of the nuts they bury. Same, squirrel, same. How many things have I put in a "safe place" only to never see them again?
While I was in Florida I checked the ring doorbell after a package delivery and noticed that twoo of my little porch pumpkins were out on the sidewalk. There hadn't been a storm or even a windy day that might have caused them to roll off the porch steps. I checked back later and saw this guy rolling one away.
Tumblr media
Okay, that's a terribly blurry screenshot, but it's a squirrel making off with one of my pumpkins. When I got home from my trip I spotted this.
Tumblr media
So I scooped up all of the pumpkins and put them in the back yard for a royal feast.
Tumblr media
They've been having a ball with them. At any given time I can peek out a window and see six or eight fluffy tails poking up around the pumpkins. I hope their tummies are full. Molly is loving watching the action from her bedroom perch.
Tumblr media
In an attempt to enjoy the last bit of autumn color we went ove rto Adkins Arboretum one afternoon for a hike. The weather was perfect, and I just love the quiet. Bird songs, woodpeckers at work, crunchy leaves, fresh air - just what I needed.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Time in a forest is time well spent. That was followed by a weekend visit with our grandgirl who leaves laughter and fairy dust in her wake. We talked about Christmas, played unicorn school (long story) and raked leaves in pajamas (another long story).
Tumblr media
I finally took down my Harris/Walz sign, with a heavy heart, but I did replace it.
Tumblr media
So that's what I'm doing on this end, searching for scraps of joy and hanging onto them for dear life. The colors of autumn, a giggling grandgirl, holidays with people I love - it gives me glimmers of hope. There is always something to care about, to smile about, even if it's just a beautiful moon or a happy wren singing. All those little moments add up. Savor them. Sending out so much love tonight. Help yourself to what you need and pass it on. That's how we'll get through this, by holding each other up. Take care of yourselves, my dears. Stay safe, stay well. XOXO, Nancy

Hulda (Huddy) Horowitz Cohen learned about Southern cake baking from her neighbor Julia Haralson in Blytheville, Arkansas, in the 1950s. Haralson baked a blackberry jam Bundt cake each year for Christmas, and Cohen would bake the cake for Rosh Hashanah to toast in the Jewish New Year. Jam cake, fragrant with spice, has shown up across the South, most often in Kentucky and Tennessee, with blackberry or strawberry jam-filled layers draped with a caramel icing.
Jewish peddlers and merchants began arriving in small Southern towns to sell clothing and household goods in the late nineteenth century, long before Walmart, says Marcie Cohen Ferris, Southern Jewish foodways scholar, author of “Matzoh Ball Gumbo,” and daughter of Huddy Cohen. For Jews living in towns without synagogues and rabbis, one way of feeding their soul was at the dinner table, she says. And while fried chicken, beaten biscuits and sliced tomatoes could be found on Jewish and Gentile menus alike, jam cake reminded Jews of cakes baked by their ancestors. Ferris’s paternal grandparents, immigrants from Russia, had arrived in the Arkansas Delta from New York City in 1920. They assimilated into a world of church socials, football and layer cake.
A decade ago, when my own family was hosting a German exchange student, Philip walked into the kitchen where I was baking and knew the aroma as jam “kuchen,” just as his grandmother made for holidays back in Germany. The story goes that German immigrants, arriving via steamboats into Louisville in the early 1800s, traveled south searching for land on which to settle. When they found black walnut trees, it predicted rich limestone soil for farming. And they brought a spice cake recipe to bake with the berries that grew lush in their new home.
Notes:
Instead of layers, if you wish to bake this recipe as a Bundt like Cohen, it will need about 1 hour of baking time at 350°F. Dust with confectioners’ sugar after it has cooled.
This is the icing recipe my mother handed down to me many years ago. It is a lot easier to prepare than the old-fashioned method of caramelizing the sugar. This frosting has great flavor, dirties few pans in the kitchen and is ready in a snap.

Consider: you don't have to go to work if you run away and change your name. Buy some land and a roadside stand out on highway 109 and sell Tennessee ham and strawberry jam and don't lose any sleep at night.

Megan Gustafson was waived from her first teams and then bounced around before landing on the Phoenix where she barely plays. Of course she’s not going to bring out the crowds. I doubt Caitlin is going to have that experience. Not to mention Megan’s fans were mostly from Iowa, while Caitlin has fans all across the country. She’s selling out not just her home arenas but road arenas. Which yes, includes basketball nerds, lesbians, and girl dads. Again, you don’t think people are going to watch her when she comes to their town as a pro? Or ESPN isn’t going to ride her numbers into the summer?
While nobody’s had this level of fame at the college level in the women’s game so far, the college stars have brought fans. Plum and Sabrina have brought people to the W. Part of the reason Tennessee and UConn got so big is because earlier in their programs they had stars like CP, Sue, Diana, that made people watch the W. When SDS, EDD (not from anything near a blue blood), and BG were drafted, the excitement for them as pros raised W viewership a ton.
I just don’t see how you can expect to grow the game if you just want the same fanbases to keep winning every year and don’t let new fans find the W
Meanwhile, you're stanning Caitlin while trashing Meg. Meg played starting minutes filling in for BG and you don't seem to know or care. She had career highs and double doubles last season for the Mercury. But you rarely hear a word about it from Iowa fans.
I never said no one would follow Caitlin to the W. Read my post again. I said she'd sell an extra 1,000 WNBA tickets per game. Right now in college she's selling an extra 10,000.
Kelsey and Sabrina did not sell 1,000 WNBA tickets per game as rookies. They sold maybe 100. So of course I think Caitlin will sell more than them. But it won't be like college. No matter how many WNBA awards and records she breaks, she will never be as famous as she is now.
Most of Caitlin's current fanbase will only be watching her pro highlights, not her games. I'm not saying that's a good thing. Please understand I'm just describing the reality of American culture. Describing something doesn't mean I approve of it. This does not make me happy. This is not how things should be. Professional female basketball players should be more popular than amateur college players. But they're not. This is just how it is. Most of this buzz around Caitlin will move on to Toby Fournier.
Most Americans want to watch young girls excel at sports against their less talented peers. That's not what the WNBA is so most Americans aren't interested. I wish that would change but it won't change overnight.
The most famous year of Candace Parker's life was 2008. The most famous year of Diana Taurasi's life was 2004. So, it's 2024 and it's Caitlin's most famous year and you should enjoy it. But fame isn't everything. There are more interesting and challenging and wonderful and strange things awaiting Caitlin in the years to come. And I hope you'll stick around to see that.

NOT ONLY IN FEBRUARY (POEM)
We don't need the government to tell U.S. that only in February
The birth month of, Frederick Douglas, one of greatest abolitionists, in memory
That it will reluctantly and hesitantly teach U.S. a watered-down version of our glorious Black History.
The only history books about Black folks in which the joke of a Governor, Ron Desantis, would approve of, is a history that's "anti-woke".
Like the Rage Against The Machine song-Bulls On Parade:
"They don't gotta burn the books, they just remove em"
Not just because the books make their "snowflake" children feel guilty, about the harsh realities of slavery, Black Codes, Jim Crow, red lining , and for-white-profit and black-agony penitentiaries, where like cattle, inmates are kept behind barb wire fences and are kept in check by armed sentries
The books are removed to control the minds of the youth and future policy makers for another century.
Forgot about black history lessons that will inspire the adolescences
No true stories of how Harriet Tubman , like a black woman Moses, spread justice through treacherous enemy lines, like it was the red sea and freed her fellow woman and man from white brutality, chains , whips , and rapes of Antebellum southern slavery, Or how she became a union spy who risked her life behind crimson soaked bloody earth to bring clandestine information to the union to help save northern army lives.
I'm sorry, but in American public pre-schools to universities, in deeply and devilishly red states run by makers of political policies like "anti-woke" lady Arkansas Governor, Sarah Huckabee, in class your babies, young men and ladies will never learn about great men like Pan-Africanist and black freedom fighter, Marcus Mosiah Garvey .
No information on Egypt's 25th Dynasty, that's when in 744 BC Nubian King, Piye, conquered Egypt, and reunited the two African lands of splendid gold jewelry and granite stone pyramids into one Nile Valley Monarchy .
No revolutionary history from the year 1804, that's when a bunch of poorly treated and trained, self-freed maroons, brought black doom and apocalyptic misery upon the Napoleon's Imperial navy and Army in Haiti
This defeat forced the Empire of France to sell its remaining remaining 15 states in "louisiana purchase" territories for for a meager 15 million dollar fee
Creating much of the land in the country of the land of the free that you currently see from sea to shining sea.
At an "anti-woke" elementary, high school, or university, they might let you hear about MLK's "I Have A Dream", but you never hear that that the dream was also anti-Vietnam war or that the dream included reparations for the descendants of the blacks who suffered the world’s worst froms of brutality, lynchings, Jim Crow and slavery.
No student research paper inquiries on how in 1999, in a court in Tennessee, the King family won civilly against Jowers, and several U.S. government agencies, for their part in the Dr.King assassination conspiracy.
If we leave it to the Alt-Right, Matt Walsh and the Ben Shapiro types to rewrite black history, it will read and only in February:
Blacks were put in Antebellum slavery due to their mental inferiority, and kept in modern slavery (mass incarceration) due to their criminality.
No mention of systematic white supremacy, mis-education, and over-policing and poverty.

Challenge 2 - Goal Getter
Hello again ♡ I'm back today with the daily challenge! I've managed to come up with a pretty decent list of goals for myself. This is a combination of things within my mundane life and my spiritual practice. I've decided to lay it out as a 5 year plan, not for any specific reason other than my own leisure and dead lines. Let's get to it, shall we?
Tumblr media
1. To Live A Self-Sustained Life Off Grid
This is my absolutely most important goal. I plan to find a nice piece of land somewhere in Tennessee. I'll have a well for water, a cast iron oven to heat my house and cook with. I'll have an outdoor bathroom that's cascaded in its own room constructed of Vines. Heat with firewood under for a tub. We'll have 3 horses, a little hen house with enough hens to keep eggs around, and a few goats for milk. I'll spend my days tending to the animals and the garden and creating whatever my heart desires. It's incredibly important to me to learn how to live off of the land. Society is falling apart and humans were never meant to live this way.
2. To Have My Own Business Website/Blog
As it's clear to tell, I've been working hard towards building an online platform for myself. Ideally, I'd have an online Grimoire/Book of Shadows/Mirrors with all of my information organized and easily accessible. I'd also have a professional platform for my divination workings, and eventually a place to sell handmade candles, incense, incense boards, handmade and personalized tarot/oracle cards, runes, bone sets crystals and stones that were harvested by me and so much more! It's become a huge passion of mine to be able to teach people factual information along with provide them with the proper metaphysical equipment that is usually capitalized on.
3. Build Closer Relationships within my Pantheon
I do daily devotion to my deities along and always make sure to honor them throughout my day, but I'd like to become closer to them and learn more about their history. It's another big goal of mine to completely understand and be able to know by heart every inch of the mythology and reasoning behind everything I'm worshiping. Not only what it means to me, but the historical context and how these deities were once revered by entire cities is definitely a big thing to not overlook. I take my relationship with the gods very seriously and intend to devote a lot of my time to studying them as a collective within the pantheon.
4. Maintain My Altar More
I slack on keeping things tidy, especially on my altar. I'd like to set up a few different altars to keep all the things I practice seperate, but for now, I move things around as needed. That gets messy at times, and there are points where I stack things on top of each other, close the shutter, and forget about it until I come back next time. Sometimes I go months at a time without touching my altar. It just is what it is, but it's a big goal of mine to keep things up on it more. And to get seperate ones to space my things out.
5. Learn Local Folklore & Native Plants
I live in the foothills of the Appalachia, and for how long I've lived here, I know very little of the Lore and history of the land I walk every day. I want to learn more about native species and correspondences, as well as local folklore that once were everyday stories. I feel it would help me feel more connected to the land I already hold so close to my heart. It's also important to me to plant and regenerate native species, as it would save our land.
I'm excited to see all of your goals as well. Thanks for reading. Fair Winds ♡
