Gladiolus tristis
Many people associate the genus Gladiolus with the densely flowered hybrids that are prominent in the florist industry, but the original species have a charm of their own. This one is Gladiolus tristis, from east of Cape Town in South Africa's winter rainfall region, with white flowers that have a tinge of yellow. In habitat, it is often found in damp areas, but it has done well in our not-so-damp garden. Gladiolus belongs to the Iris Family.

It's Haruka's Birthday! Happy Birthday to him~ Unlike someone who didn't say it at least I did.
Now onto flower languages! Yamanaka tweeted this for Haruka's birthday. Since we have all the Milgram characters birthdays except Es and Jackalope. We can look up the remaining birth flowers.
A hint to which flower chart he's using is in the flower he lists for Haruka. Where I'm from Haruka and Amane's birth flowers according to the old farmer's almanac would be Rose and Honeysuckle.
So, what's he using? Well, the more in depth Korean one of course~
Unlike the farmer's almanac which covers the month wholesale the Korean one has a flower for each day of the month.
Haruka June 22
Viburnum 가막살나무 - Love is stronger than death.
Outside of the meanings listed by Yamanaka Viburnum is used to symbolize pride and is given to someone to honor their achievements.
Amane June 27
Passion Flower 시계꽃 - Divine love.
Amane even has a piece that resembles the flower on her cake art. Outside of meaning Divine Love it has heavy ties to Christianity.
"The name 'passion flower' refers to the passion of Jesus and the genus therefore has a particular relevance at Easter. Spanish Christian missionaries adopted the unique structure of the plant as symbols of the last days of Jesus and especially his crucifixion."
Mu July 5
Lavender 라벤더 - Strong fragrance
To the surprise of no one outside of meaning Strong Fragrance Lavender has strong ties to France.
"The term lavender comes from the old French word, lavender which is imitative of the Latin word lavare (“to wash”). This flower represents serenity, grace, and calmness. The biblical meaning of lavender symbolizes purity, devotion, and love; that’s why lavender is referenced more than a hundred times in the Bible by the name of nard or spikenard by Hebrews."
"Lavender’s purple color also represents calmness and serenity."
In the Old Farmer's Almanac Mu's birth flower would be the Larkspur and Water Lily.
Kazui August 5
Heather 엘리카 - Loneliness, solitude
Through the power of k-pop-
I've found out that the website I was getting the birth flowers from spelled the English name of Kazui's flower wrong. Also, it can mean loneliness, beautiful solitude, or soulmate. In the west, this flower would be referred to as Heather and its meaning would be good luck, admiration, and protection.
Kazui's birth flower according to the farmer's almanac would be Gladiolus and Poppy.
Yuno September 2
Mexican Ivy 멕시칸 아비 - Change
Look I'm not even going to hold you finding the meaning of this specific version of ivy in English is difficult. At least for me it is maybe someone else can find it. However, when I look it up all the internet is giving me is the meaning of ivy which is a completely different flower. So, moving along.
Yuno's flowers in the farmer's almanac would be Morning Glory and Aster.
Mikoto October 6
Hazel Tree 개암나무 - Reconciliation
Yeah, you and I read that right it's a tree. A tree that has been tied to Celtic myths and was said to line the border between the human realm and that of the gods.
"Hazel has a reputation as a magical tree. A hazel rod is supposed to protect against evil spirits, as well as being used as a wand and for water-divining. In some parts of England, hazelnuts were carried as charms and/or held to ward off rheumatism. In Ireland, hazel was known as the 'Tree of Knowledge’, and in medieval times it was a symbol of fertility."
Mikoto's birth flower according to the Farmer's Almanac would be the Marigold and Cosmos.
Shidou October 24
Chinese Plum Blossom 매화 - Noble heart
This is also considered a tree, just not such a normal one.
"In Chinese philosophy, the Plum tree’s blossom is a symbol of winter ending and a herald of spring. The tree’s pale pink blossoms are cherished because they bloom vibrantly and so bravely amidst the winter chill. They symbolise perseverance and hope, as well as, beauty thriving in adverse circumstances."
"Plum blossoms represent good luck, prosperity, hope, courage, beauty, and purity in China. In Japanese traditions, they also symbolize hope in addition to renewal and vitality."
Good plant for the guy lying and replacing with hope, huh? Shidou's flowers in the Farmer's Almanac would be the same as Mikoto's.
Kotoko December 15
Winter Daphne 서향 - Immortality, honor.
Winter Daphne was also used as,
"A way of telling a love, “I would not have you otherwise.”."
Here's some more information on the flower.
Mahiru January 17
Rumex 수영 - Friendly
Rumex doesn't just mean friendly it has been stated to mean,
Affection, Matrimonial Tenderness, Close Relationships, Friendships and appears again on December 4 meaning Love.
Mahiru's flowers within the Farmer's Almanac would be Carnation & Snowdrop.
Last but certainly not least-
Futa April 19
Larkspur 참제비고깔 - Clear, fair.
Futa's was also misspelled in English on the website I was using so I corrected it.
"The Pawnee tribe of North America believed in a mythological figure, "Dream Woman," who cut a hole in the sky to look down on Earth beings. Crumbs from the blue sky fell to the ground and became larkspur. And like lily of the valley, larkspur is also associated with the Virgin Mary and is said to represent her tears. Larkspur is symbolic of a beautiful spirit, swiftness and generally of positivity and strong bonds of love. It is also associated with lightheartedness and youth, possibly because it grows in summer where carefree days are spent away from school."
"In the language of flowers, the larkspur holds the symbolic meaning of strong love bonds, dedication, sincerity, positivity and an open heart."
Open this door and check if you want to.
Futa's birth flowers within the Farmer's Almanac would be Daisy and Sweet Pea.

Hi detective
Your ocs are now flowers in a bouquet. Tell me about it/them.
I'm going to do some fast googleing on the Victorian Language of Flowers to answer this ask, but since I'm not particularly confident in my googling powers, I'm going to put the meaning I've found under each one as well. So potential... hints? of spoilers? beneath the cut :D
From Fey Touched there's...
Lizzy Hail: Brugmansia aka Angel's Trumpet
Vivacity, vibrancy, health, danger. The flowers which grow on the brugmansia are part of the nightshade family, meaning that they have slightly toxic properties. Because of their size and unusual shape, the angel's trumpet represents vivacity and vibrancy.
Booker Reed: Queen of the Night
"Enjoy small moments because they do not last". The symbolic character of the epiphyllum is its short flowering time, therefore, people commonly used the blooming epiphyllum as a metaphor for how good things don't last. On the other hand, because of this rarity, it's also a sign of luckiness for those who see its bloom.
Andric Roche: Protea
The primary symbolic meanings of the protea flower are strength, courage, and resilience since the plant survives in extreme climate conditions. Proteas also symbolize diversity, due to the hundreds of variations in color and shape found within their genus.
Cara Evelyn: Pansy
"Thoughtfulness, remembrance, you occupy my thoughts". Pansy flowers are known to symbolize several things, including love, affection, free thinking, and happiness. The pansy's heart-shaped petals and bright, bold colors are often associated with love and affection, and the flower is often given as a gift to express these sentiments.
Mia Harris: Morning Glory
"Love in vain; affection". Morning glories have symbolized love that was never returned, but have also been seen as a sign of undying love.
Nameer Khatri: Violets
Violets signify wisdom, loyalty, hope, and faithfulness. Giving someone a violet let's them know that you'll always be there for them.
From The Stolen Stories there's...
Stella Korazon: Aster
In Victorian culture, the aster represents daintiness, patience, and charm. Aster meanings include love and wisdom. With a rich history in Greek mythology, it’s said that the aster was created by the tears of the Greek goddess, Astraea. One day, she was so upset by how few stars there were in the dark sky, that she began to cry. As she wept, her tears fell to the ground and turned into star-shaped aster flowers. Thus, the flower was named after her, with aster meaning star.
Reilly Mosswolf: Sunflowers
Sunflowers symbolise loyalty, adoration, a long life and lasting happiness, also good fortune and positive opportunities. Sunflowers symbolize unwavering faith and unconditional love.
Eryn Mosswolf: Purple Hyacinth
Purple hyacinths can symbolize multiple things, including sorrow and a desire for forgiveness. The fragrant purple blooms could be a way to let others know you're thinking about them after a death in the family.
Dara Brookor: Zinnia
While zinnia has many different meanings, it is usually associated with friendship, endurance, daily remembrance, goodness, and lasting affection. Zinnias are one tough bloom! Zinnias also symbolize a “joyous endurance.” They are happy to bloom in the steaming heat of summer and really any other trials it encounters, such as drought and bugs, yet they never fail to produce vibrant, beautiful blooms!
Tanar Orinan: Gladiolus
The gladiolus flower typically symbolizes honor and remembrance, but it has many other meanings too such as: Strength of character. Faithfulness, sincerity, and integrity.
Myris Orinan: Blue Daisy
Blue daises have a meaning of long-term loyalty and trust so you can send them to a friend, a long-term partner or a family member who you care very much for. These daisies are pretty rare to find but not impossible.
Nillion Kurez: Dahlia
Finding inner strength, graceful, dignity and commitment. Also embracing positive changes. Some colours of Dahlia display negative connotations including instability or dishonesty. Dahlia make good gifts for someone you admire or percieve as a strong person.
Indre Larieth: Rhododendron
Victorians sent the flower as a warning or with the meaning of ‘beware.’ It was commonly used to indicate that you were worried someone was making the wrong choice, especially when dealing with potential romantic partners.
Lauralai Morten: Cypress
Signifies death, mourning, and despair. In the language of flowers, cypress flowers may also stand for eternal love, memories of past love, or even unrequited love in vain.

Round 1 the top 4 were Kukui, Sycamore, Birch, and either Elm or Sada. I'll hold an elimination round later if need be.
Round 2's top 4 were Clavell, Jacq, Hassel, and Raifort!
It's past time for round 3 of planty intellectuals
Bellis is named from the Genus containing the common daisy
Fennel is related to the carrot, and is said to have health benefits of improved heart health, reduce inflammation, and apparently suppress'es appetite.
Cedric is the professor Junipers father
Cynthia is a Rhododendron catawbiense hybrid that was developed by John Standish and Charles Noble of Sunningdale Nursery in Devon, England in the 1840's and 1850's. Look it up it's really pretty.
Cynthia herself is a researcher and archeologist
Lusamine is named from Balsamina plant, which has many uses in traditional medicine. Some include burns, snake bites, warts, constipation, and fractures, depending on which part of the plant is used. It is native to India and Myanmar, and invasive on several Pacific Ocean islands. More common names include touch-me-not and spotted snap weed.
Her whole family has plant names, and her which kid takes over the family science business depends on the game variant you play. (Original or Ultra) Gladion is named for Gladiolus, the Sword Lilly. In African medicine treatment it is used in treatments for diarrhea, constipation and colds.
Lillie is likewise named, and given her white colour scheme, may be named for white Lilly. Lilies are edible plants (unless you are a cat), and are traditionally used for coughs and sore throats, though are said to have many other uses medicinally.
Mohn is named for the German name for Poppy. It too has medicinal uses, most well known for Morphine.
Even Faba is named for an edible plant here, particularly after a type of bean.
Now for DLC stuff (or game I haven't played)
Cyanococcus is the scientific name of Blueberry. English threw some other influences in there and added the r. He and his fellow professor Briar (named for thorny shrub plants such as wild roses), are technically from Unova, for all they show up in the ScarVi DLC.
I was tempted to put Hop (climbing plant commonly used to grow beer) on the list, but like Lillie and Gladion, they do not start their studies in game. Closest would be Lillie who was actually a research assistant at game start.
Heath (shortened form of heather) could have worked for the poll too. Personally, I would have gone for Calluna as a name, that sounds nice to me.
One who has a name that could have hit plant, but went for a spelling and meaning for sinister was Sina, which could have been swapped to Senna, a herb whose leaves can be taken for constipation relief.
Plenty of research "rival" trainers who become assistants don't have a plant name, such as Bianca, who goes for a light name meaning, in contrast to Cheren's black.
Some people like Bill and have a plant name in Japan, that was changed to something else for English.
Bill was from masaki, or evergreen spindle, a small evergreen tree,
As it was changed in translation, I decided against including it as an option on the poll.

hi random question but are there any flowers you associate with the rkns + quint? how about the stardroids or your ocs? if no, then what flowers do you think would be good?
gonna put this under a read-more since my explanation is going to be extremely long, but tl;dr:
rkns+quint: daffodil, gladiolus, forget-me-not
my fcs: sunflower to pilot man, dahlia to patch woman
i'm not going to elaborate so much about the stardroids because: (1) i haven't spent that many braincells thinking about them, (2) they're quite varied within a group so i'd choose a flower per stardroid individually, and (3) i've already exhausted a lot of hours researching into these flowers and their associated mythology / etymology and this post is getting too long… so i'd like to invite anyone to try to answer this ask for the stardroids!
daffodil
i associate this flower mainly just to enker, but also to quint and to ballade. here are my reasons:
depending on the variety, daffodils tend to bloom sometime from late winter to early spring, although they can survive the winter months as they're known to be particularly hardy; the daffodil variants in japan, for example, are known to bloom from december to january. the yellow daffodils thus symbolize resilience, because of this quality. how does this relate to enker? well if you squint at his profile overall, there’s a recurring motif one can pick up: his cold exterior and gloomy nature. being into new year’s eve (a winter holiday) and nabiyaki udon (a hot-pot dish often served during the winter season). his jpn catchphrase, “grit your teeth and bear it” (hardiness). do you see that all of these things are associated to winter and the cold season, and the commonalities shared with the daffodil?
in addition, here's some fun facts about daffodils: daffodils can accelerate the death of other flowers when placed into a vase with them. all parts of a daffodil are poisonous, but one kind of daffodil also has strong emetic effects and can cause headaches, just by being in a closed room with a bunch of them inside. it's quite a toxic flower that needs to be handled with care in order to cooperate with its flowery compatriots… which reminds me of a certain character…oh…wait…that couldn't be enker, could it...
i think it’s also worth mentioning that the scientific name for the daffodil genus, narcissus, is linked to (but not known to be originated from) the greek myth of narcissus, a hunter who rejected all romantic advances and was eventually punished for that by being led to his reflection in the water and falling in love with it so much that he drowned, where a daffodil sprang from where he died. the part which, i think, relates to enker; not so much about him being narcissist (in fact i hc to be very far from that), but rather, with him circling around in a never-ending state of reflection that distorts the image of his identity and his place in the world (which i suppose is ironic, considering the name of his weapon).
the violet daffodils represent selfishness in honor of narcissus, which isn’t what i would associate enker with (i don’t think he’s that selfish), but on a more positive note, they symbolize self-esteem, and can be used to give to someone who has self-doubts. which, i think, is perfect to give to him (and to quint) really.
the meanings of the daffodil are usually pretty positive, but i think the associations to these can be pretty…bittersweet. one of the meanings of the daffodil includes rebirth and new beginnings. interestingly enough, these meanings are also what pluto symbolizes in astrology—which is associated to the origin myth of the seasons: the greek analogue of pluto is hades, who was known to have kidnapped persephone, the daughter of the demeter (the goddess of harvest and agriculture), by luring her with daffodils, and when demeter found out about this, caused the vegetation and flora of the world to wither, before some negotiation happened where persephone can spend some time with demeter but only up to eight months (namely, spring and summer).
who was also kidnapped? quint. who also encountered a "rebirth" and "new beginnings"? ballade. who also stands on the threshold between two different worlds, one in the past, the other in the present, like persephone? well…i can argue both quint and ballade do, because i think quint still retains his memories of him being rock and is powerless to do anything about them now that he's quint, and ballade…well…i headcanon to be experiencing the brunt of grief and sorrow of being reborn from the other killers+quint, or rather, being born to a space his old self once occupied and now feels pressured to fill in.
anyway, i’m just ad libbing associations here, but this is my argument for why the daffodil is the flower for both enker, quint, and ballade.
gladiolus
the name of this flower, gladiolus, originates from the latin word gladius or "sword," referring to the sword that roman foot soldiers used in battle. it should also be noted that in ancient greece, this flower was called xiphium, which comes from the greek word xiphos for "sword." both of these refer to the sword-like leaves; this is the flower for fighters, and indeed, that's what the rkns are.
the meanings of the gladiolus are integrity, honor, faithfulness, and strength. i mostly associate these qualities to punk for some reason, since we know he prefers to have a fair-and-square fight and he believes in his own strength—but this also somewhat applies to all rkns, as each upholds their own version of some moral code when fighting, and their devotion to the cause is what defines them as a group.
furthermore, these meanings of the gladiolus seem to come from what roman gladiators stand for. going back to the naming etymology of these flowers, they refer to the swords that roman foot soldiers use. after the martial reforms for the roman military were enacted, these soldiers were given a shield, some javelins, a sword, and a dagger. in battle, they would wield the sword and shield for close combat after breaking their enemies' defenses and formations with the javelins—so in some sense, the sword is used a secondary means of offense and defense against enemies. which is the role of each of the rkns + quint as well! in the gameboy games, they're always the enemy you fight after fending off the robot masters from the main series or the stardroids. which, i think, is fitting.
as a last addition to this, it should be noted that these soldiers must follow the oath of allegiance, or sacramentum militare, that they have to swear once they enlist. this is a pledge to loyalty towards the consul of the roman republic in the republican era, or towards the emperor in the imperial era, of the roman republic. breaking this not only becomes an act of disloyalty against the state or the emperor, but also against the other members of the unit—which serves as a deterrent against revolts, despite the numerous records of civil conflicts arising from betraying the oath. i think these conflicts are also at the heart of the rkn—automatically programmed to swear their allegiance to an empire just to kill one small boy is what also defines the group, and what might also threaten the integrity of it; how each of them uses that devotion to the cause, or rather, how much they stick to it is what defines them individually, and it's an interesting thing to look into when considering each rkn as an individual and their place in the group. such themes, i believe are relevant, and this is what makes me choose the gladiolus as a flower for them.
forget-me-not
this would be the flower mainly associated to ballade, but also to quint.
the etymology of the scientific name for its genus comes from the ancient greek term for "mouse's ear," but its actual name supposedly comes from a german folktale, about a knight and a lady strolling along the riverbank. the knight fell into the water in an attempt to pick up flowers for the lady, and before he drowned, he cried out the name of the said flower and threw the flowers he picked up to his loved one, and since then, in grief, she would wear forget-me-nots in commemoration for him.
throughout the world, forget-me-nots would be used for remembrances of those who died in wars (especially the world wars), as well as from well-known disorders like dementia and alzheimer's disease.
and that's what the forget-me-nots symbolize: remembrance and memory.
just like the knight in the folktale, ballade saw something, something beautiful in the last moment he faced rockman, and it led to the end of that brief span of life that ballade has occupied up, which wouldn't be easily forgotten by the other rkns + quint. he might've been just one flower, one casualty, plucked out in a long series of unnecessary wars between two roboticists—and sure, he might've been rebuilt afterwards—but the rkns + quint don't see it that way as just one robot who died and was reborn. he was somebody—maybe a fucking idiot beforehand, but at least he was their idiot.
similarly to quint: he was rock(man) before, and the moment wily reprogrammed him is the moment those two identities have died. him meandering through life, through the halls of the wily fortress, trying to reconcile with the death of his past self... don't you think he deserves some of these flowers to commemorate what he was? i don't think he's ever completely processed that himself. i think these flowers are also for him.
sunflower
when it comes to the sunflower, their meanings include optimism and strength, warmth, and unwavering faith. all of which describes pilot man; his good quality is his ability to make the best of a situation no matter how bad it gets, and he's a pretty warm dude if any character gets to know him.
the binomial nomenclature of the sunflower, helianthus annuus, comes from the greek words helios ("sun") and anthos ("flower") and the latin word annuus ("annual"), referring to how the sunflower quite literally looks like sun and how it is a perennial flower that blooms in the mid-summer until fall. often, when i think about where pilot works, he's always under the rays of the sun, running around from hanger to hanger, ensuring that things in his little private airport are in operation...and also, his best work on building plane models comes out during the mid-summer months, when things aren't as busy for him as they are in the rest of the year.
it's also thought the reason this flower gets its named is how many believed that it is heliotropic (that is, the sunflower head tracks the sun). note that i said "believed." sunflowers aren't truly heliotropic; only the immature flower buds, leaves, and the stems do orient themselves in the direction of the sun. this reminds me of a very young pilot man, bouncing with vigor and always eager to work with the company that created him and have his abilities tested as much as possible, to the point where both the company and pilot believed he can do so much more, until they... flew close to the sun, y'know?
(which…reminds me of the greek tale of icarus, who he and his father daedalus, a master craftsman, escaped from imprisonment by flying with the winds daedalus created using wax, feathers, and blankets. icarus was warned not to fly close to the sun, lest the wax melted, nor close to ocean they were flying over, lest the dampness of the sea weighed his wings down; icarus unfortunately fell into his own hubris by doing the former. which is pretty close to the disaster that happened with pilot within a year of his activation, due to his company's hubris, haha.)
but mature flowering buds actually only face east, which is still pretty interesting to note; the earth rotates in such a way so that the sun rises in the east and sets in the west, but such buds continuously look in the east—it's like they always expect for the sun to rise no matter where the sun shines or goes, without so much following the sun's direction. to me, this says much about an over reliance of faith to take over things can overshadow the true gifts of life, instead of having just a little of it, which can go a long way...it's reflective of pilot's outlook on life prior to and after the disaster.
dahlia
this one is chosen purely out of symbolism, haha; the differing colors of the dahlia and their individual meanings actually do represent different facets of patch woman.
some meanings to the dahlia include inner strength, staying graceful under pressure, and elegance. patch woman's work is constantly her being under pressure, because her job is to tap into connections, find some interesting information about a company or a person whose life she's gonna destroy, and leak it into the world without leaving so much of a trace or negotiating with other parties about this information or wiping such information from everywhere if she feels it's necessary (often a big decision to handle). she handles this with a quiet sort of dignity and poise that can leave others baffled into how she's not...fizzling out from handling all of this info and intel.
dahlias with mixed blue/green colors represent fresh starts and big changes. part of patch's origin story is that she was originally [redacted] and prefers to keep that part even unknown to herself, lest bad parties might use this against her—and the fresh start wily gave her is what drives her to go on (and sometimes influences her decisions handling such intel).
the negative connotations of the dahlia also represent patch woman as well. in particular, the black dahlia symbolizes betrayal—which, yes, one should be careful when around patch because once a piece of information about oneself is thrown into the well that is patch's information network, one better watch their back because she may as well use it to step on them for her own purposes. in fact, betrayals, compromises, and deceit are what fuels her and gives her repute in the dark world of info.
there's an interesting little historical tidbit (or possibly myth or tale, unclear) about dahlias, related to empress joséphine, the empress of the french. she was well known to be into botany and was overly protective of her garden at the château de malmaison. having been offered some dahlia tubers from the french minister, she fell in love with their bloom so much that she wouldn't permit a single seed or root from the garden to exit the malmaison. except...a polish count visted the malmaison and bribed the gardener to dig up a hundred of those dahlias to propagate, making the empress extremely angry and having her destroy the remaining dahlia tubers. it's a funny little story exemplifying how value works: when one values something so much, it can be easily used against them. it's a key principle that patch keeps in mind when handling intel, and it's something which patch deals with on a daily basis.

okay, alright. this was way too damn long, but i appreciate the pretty cool and thoughtful question; it was certainly a fun writing exercise to be thinking about over this past weekend. thanks for indulging me!

An Alphabetized List of Phytoremediating Plants and What They Do
For starters: What is Phytoremediation? According to cpeo.org it is a bioremediation process by which plants are used to remove, transfer, stabilize, and/or destroy contaminants in soil and groundwater. [link]
Why I am making this list: I can't explain properly in words why this is important to me. Clean the land you live on.
Alyssum: Relatives of the brassicas! Delightful little groundcover plants, i assume that since they're relatives they'd serve a similar role to the brassicas. used for phytoimmobilization. [x]
Ascolepis: A grass tuft plant that i couldn't find much information on. Used for phytoimmobilization. [x]
Brassicaceae: Brassicas specifically are good at absorbing heavy metals, and produce plenty of biomass in the process. [x]
Gladiolus: Cormus flowers, relatives of the iris! Pretty popular decorative plants. Used for phytoimmobilization. [x]
Haumaniastrum: A genus of flowering plants in the mint species. Cultivated for purposes of phytoimmobilization. [x]
Indian Mustard Brassica juncea L: Described by land8.com as the "star of this group", it is especially good at cleaning up heavy metal in the soil, because it spreads rapidly. [x]
Indian Grass Sorghastrum nutans: A grass species native to the midwestern united states, remarkable for its ability to neutralize some pesticides and herbicides. [x]
Lovegrass Eragrostis: A species of grasses found all over the world. Little friends, cultivated for purposes of phytoimmobilization. [x]
Myriophyllium spicatum: Little aquatic plants with enzymatic systems similar to Poplars, considered invasive in the Americas. [x]
Sunflower Helianthus annuus: Perhaps one of the most famous bioremediators, because, and i'm not kidding, it fucking loves to eat toxins and heavy metals. One experiment also had one month old sunflowers remove 95% of uranium in 24 hours. [x]
Two-Grooved Milkvetch Astragalus bisulcatus: native to central and western north america, likes to eat Selenium. used for phytovolatilzation. [x]
Poplar tree Populus deltoides and Populus deltoides x Marshall eastern cottonwood: Apparently, due to their specialized roots, they can filter large amounts of groundwater. Hybrid trees are said to be able to face carcinogens better. [x]
Willow tree Salix: Another tree whose specialized roots allow it to accumulate heavy metals, apparently good for clearing out deisel pollution. [x]

FLOWER SYMBOLISMS WITH IF/THEN CHARACTERS: LUCAS GRAY
the genus Gladiolus has about 300 species of flowers. relevant symbolisms of gladioli include strength of character, sincerity, and conviction.
throughout the show, lucas develops as a person in both verses. however, what doesn't change is his character—his values, his causes, his core beliefs. an important part of his personality is that he doesn't sacrifice his values for any ulterior motives. for example, in the scene prior to "some other me", where paulette comes to get an autograph from him, he says that, "[he doesn't] want fans. the book is an instruction manual. a call to arms". his motive here (and the values behind it) is to spread the message about his cause and not to gain fame (something that can cause many to compromise their core values). conviction is definitely present with lucas as he is very passionate about his causes and he isn't afraid to express that passion and share those causes with others.
interestingly enough, gladioli can also symbolize infatuation. and lucas's infatuation/love for beth drives a huge portion of his actions in act 1 of beth-verse.
#analyzing lucas is so fun i swear#analysis#???#if/then#lucas gray#edit#this is so much more fun than any english analysis assignment

Cara Praktis Budidaya Bunga Gladiol
Botani Tanaman Hias Bunga Gladiol
Kategorisasi gladiol seperti berikut (Badriah, 1995):
Seksi : Tracheophyta
Subdivisi : Pteropsida
Klas : Angiospermae
Subklas : Monocotyledoneae
Ordo : Iridales
Kerabat : Iridaceae
Genus : Gladiolus
Spesies : Gladiolus hybridus
Persyaratan Tumbuh Bunga Gladiol
Perbanyakan Tanaman Hias Gladiol

The word ‘flower’ comes from the Latin florem meaning “to knock them to the ground”. This in turn stems from the ancient Roman tradition of floral combat, in which trained combatants would enter an arena to entertain the public by facing a full-grown Gladiolus in single combat. This may seem preposterous to modern audiences, who are accustomed to only to the modern members of the genus Gladiolus, which rarely produce flowers larger than perhaps 50mm across, but the ancient Gladiolus Humonglossum could grow well over three meters tall, and Cornelius Nepos’ Epistulae ad Ciceronem mentions, in passing, an entire hoplite phalanx being decimated by a single wild specimen; modern-day reconstructions suggest that a fully-grown Gladiolus could strike with enough force to shatter bones in a single blow, making them an ever fiercer opponent than the Western White Pine. [source]
The combatants, or gladiators, typically wore little armor but would carry a heavy curved shield, called a scutum, to deflect the plant’s enormous barbs (the term scutum is itself a portmanteau of scurra, “fool”, and tumba, “tomb”, reflecting the common wisdom that anyone who deliberately fought a Gladiolus was an idiot who would soon be dead). In their other hand, they would wield a short sword, typically made of iron, about the same length as a Gladiolus thorn (i.e. around 70cm, or just over two feet); this sword would later be known as a gladius by association with these terrifying plants, though over time the term came to refer to any sword.
