george rexstrew deserves awards for many things but i have to say. edwin’s bloodcurdling scream as niko gets killed deserves a whole award unto itself. like. that scream did not feel at all like a tv show scream. to a somewhat jarring degree. and i can’t express how much I respect that

#he has a number of very convincing screams and suffering noises which I imagine was an important prerequisite for the role #but this one is just especially chilling and again. jarring. not saying that the other actors are bad or anything but no one even comes #close to competing with george and its stark in moments like this #another screaming moment that I thought he did really well in particular is far easier to gloss over and that’s #when he and charles are escaping hell and he almost gets dragged down into lust #when he’s screaming out for charles he borderline SCREECHES #throughout that arc in general it’s just incredible but yeah #I think part of what makes it so convincing is that he isn’t afraid to be high pitched and genuinely Scream rather than yell #like. he is clearly immune to being put off by ‘you scream like a girl’ rhetoric #I think a lot of male actors avoid screaming and screeching like that for that internalized reason when. if you wanna be as realistic as #possible. a scream is high pitched. if you’re scared for your fucking life it’s just involuntary #I can also see it being uncommon due to difficulties getting that sound adequately recorded but yeah anyway you get my point #tldr: george rexstrew is great at disturbingly realistic screaming and I applaud him for that #I really hope he didn’t have to retake that part too many times..#his poor throat……….#george rexstrew #edwin #edwin payne #dead boy detectives #dead boy detectives spoilers

They really do have a lot in common!#Maybe it is because they are similar that they can't make it work past the war.#Maybe it is the similarities that make JC feel even worse about WWX drifting away from him and towards LWJ.#This is all to say I think the dynamic between LJW and JC is very interesting and not something I see talked about.#In the *end* it becomes something along the lines of 'LWJ ignores JC' but god. Missing the same person so painfully.#The grieving takes very different form but they both still grieve the same person - essentially in isolation from everyone else.#Other notes I *need* to add: The end of ep 13 took me out with the falling scream. karlach's cutscene after killing gortash never ever fails to destroy me man like....it's so. yeah. she's spent ten years fighting and killing and desperately hoping and then-

-that's it. he's dead, and he's no fucking sorrier now than he was then. it's so bleak, and it's so real and raw, it just breaks my gay little heart. like yeah - you kill the bad guy, and there's no relief in it; no closure, no cure, no wiping away the years of suffering. it doesn't make it better (it doesn't make it worse); you spend your life waiting for this moment, and it passes like every other moment.

gortash would never have apologised. karlach always knew he wouldn't, never expected an apology, but that line (he's no fucking sorrier now than he was then) says it all: she wanted one. she was owed one. and gortash, king of entitlement, king of right by might, would never have given it up. his last words are him begging you to protect him from the woman he wronged, desperately trying to convince you that his value as an ally is greater than her right as a victim.

and you kill him, and karlach's left to reckon with everything he did to her. no more quest for revenge, no more goal to drive towards: just herself, and her impending death.

i love it so much as a revenge narrative, because there's no judgement towards her - no "kill him and you're as bad as he is" - because how could she possibly be?? but all the same, as justified as she is, as wronged as she's been, it doesn't go away when he dies. she still has to face the end alone, and it breaks my heart. because so often, there is no closure: the people who wrong us don't apologise, there is no last-minute cure, no moment where it all makes sense.

he's dead, and he's no fucking sorrier now than he was then.
