oh i’ve just finished veilguard

no spoilers but oh god…….. i absolutely loved this game…. completely and utterly adored every single second. took me two weeks to finish it but i savoured every moment and even deliberately took my time, not fast travelling or sprinting everywhere because i just wanted to stay in that world for as long as possible.

i loved it so much, i had so much fun and laughed/cried my way through it. i loved the combat and gameplay (i played as a mage but it was really fun, i’m glad that was my first choice!! i am looking forward to seeing what the warrior and rogue combat is like :3) i loved seeing all the new areas of thedas, i loved all the references to the other games + even the books/comics!! the music was beautiful and the story was incredible, the end of this game made me feel like i was shot in the chest honest to god…. it was insane!! i was sobbing and weeping during the credits….

and the characters are so amazing oh god i loved them all so much but lucanis……. OH LUCANIS!!!!!!!! MY BELOVED!!!!!!! new fave just dropped!!!! he’s been on my mind constantly since i started playing, i knew from the trailer that he was going to be my fave but i genuinely didn’t realise i’d love him so dearly.

i really do want to romance the others, especially emmrich but i truly don’t think it’ll be possible for me to romance anyone other than lucanis like……. oh he was made for me…

anyway……. i guess you can say i liked it alskdkdkd ohhhhhhh i love dragon age so much, i can’t wait to replay it over and over 🥺💖 this was my first ever experience playing this game and oh i will never forget it. i will cherish this moment

Okay my curiosity is killing me, I saw that you said when Atom makes something it is no longer apart of him so he can’t just become anything…. But at the same time I’m so curious what would happen if he attempted to make like a human form?? Like would it end up as an entity entirely separate from him, fail as a whole, or would almost be like two atom’s to deal with? (That would probably get jealous of each other LOL)

He can make our favorite creature so theoretically he could make a person but like, if he doesn’t fully understand the behavioral characteristics of a creature, can he really make it?

Aaa thank you for the sweet message and support! I was gonna explain it in this ask how Atom's transmutation ability works when it comes to creating living beings but the explanation was already so long I cut it out. I'm glad I get to explain it here!

To start, I always intended Atom to feel a bit eldritch-y, so this is probably the part where that aspect applies. Below is a clumsy explanation so bear with me, but to jump straight into it, this was what I had in mind:

So I've established they can make anything as long as they're familiar with it. If you're wondering how it learns, it's kinda hinted in-game when Atom mentions learning recipes from Kiara the cook after it dissolved her. I wouldn't know how to explain how that happens but chalk it up to being an alien lifeform! Also!! Think Warm Bodies I guess!!

Is it akin to a god if it's able to create life? Uhhh, shrug! I'm just having fun with them so just brush past this detail haha.

Anyways, the point is they can make stuff! This can be living and non-living things, but the caveat is anything 'living' kinda acts,,, off? The creature will look like it's alive but it feels like terribly programmed AI if you observe them long enough, with things like:

forgetting to breathe or blink

doesn't eat, doesn't drink, doesn't excrete anything

making the wrong noise

doesn't move like it's supposed to

flopping 'dead' for a few seconds before 'rebooting'

will dissolve into the rest of the worms when you're not looking (thus becoming a part of Atom again)

Extremely uncanny, extremely uncomfortable to watch. But if you ask Atom to shapeshift into something else, it'd still be a bunch of worms making up that shape.

For the sake of clarity, let's say you want a cat, that cat is gonna be it's own cat, however strange it might act.

If you want an Atom-shaped cat,, it's gonna look like worms.

I'll just use this doodle and hope it gets the idea across because I'm having difficulty explaining it but I hope it makes sense!

Edit: Actually now that I think about it, it's similar to this scenario from one of sanfangzhu's fancomics titled Reshape! Though,,, canonically the end result isn't gonna be that graceful hahaha.

In all honesty, it was really for the best that Will didn’t think about all the strange things that sometimes happened around him. After all, his mama had more than enough on her plate already. (Though admittedly, the flock of flesh-eating maniac pigeons, men with hooves, and the growing darkness in his veins might just make this a tiny bit more difficult than he anticipated) or: will can only push down a part of him for so long (will has plague powers, but he's known it from the very start.)

UPDATE WHEN UPDATE WHEN UPDATE WHEN REESE PLEASE 😭😭i am genuinely so obsessed with this fic and the WAY everything is woven together....like fear is a driving force!! you can feel it!! this is one of those starred fics fr bc it Changed the way i wrote and characterized will. he is fr a character who has been controlled by fear his Whole life actually. of the world and what it takes from him. of the Fates that do not care for your fragile love. of the things they are forced to do. of the precarity of life. and perhaps most intimately and ardently Himself, and the abilities he does not want to have, the life he does not want to live. the parts of himself that do not fit in the mold he has Built for himself and Forced himself into. and this fic shows that so so beautifully like this story is Woven.....i think about it literally all the time it's insane

things i love about GO so far after being an avid hater since first giving it a try last year (i'm about 18 episodes in this time)

not everyone likes tenma (i didn't either at first) in fact some of these jawns fucking HATE him (lookin at you kurama) it's a welcome change from everyone being obsessed w endou's whimsical swag in the og. makes it feel like tenma has to work extra hard to prove his worth to people (in the og endou also had to work hard to convince people to join the club in ep1, but after that it was smooth sailing in terms of his team liking & trusting him)

the whole fifth sector and the state of youth soccer paints a bleak picture, but i have to admit that tenma's resolve to play real soccer got me through some of the episodes where everyone was feelin extra down about it. thank you little guy

the team's pessimism is realistic and it's cool to see that they all think differently about the situation- especially minamisawa leaving without a second thought, that is Really interesting (shame he's not mentioned much afterwards, not even by kurama.. i thought they were all pretty close, so it's odd)

the raimon v mannouzaka match is genuinely so good i love it so much

i adore that sangoku showed tenma some kindness by inviting him over for dinner. being his upperclassman i think it's important to make him feel at home and valued in the team- with the state of soccer and some of the members disliking tenma i imagine it can be really intimidating to be the only bright-eyed happy bitch on that team. sangoku showing him that kindness was really important i think (it also gave us some insight into his character and personal life- seriously, his mom wondering why he doesn't want her to come to his games anymore broke my heart in half. oh my god)

the tsurugis fighting over what kyousuke is doing seriously HURT me man. yuuichi crying and telling him "i never asked you to do that for me" ouhh ouch ow owie that HURT. AUGH. and kyousuke being so deeply moved by seeing his brother cry auughh god that's so good. i would be too what da hell!! i was a bit surprised when yuuichi got angry about him abandoning soccer and told him to leave- idk if it was just me never having watched GO but knowing about yuuichi being a caring older brother, i guess i decided on a personality for him in my head and then got surprised when it didnt line up with reality. that's on me. i expected him to be more calm & forgiving but i really understand the outburst and the anger. if i were in his shoes i'd probably react the same way. i mean one brother sacrificing his morals for the other even though he never asked that of him is soooo. aughgg. anyways it was solved without a conversation bc what yuuichi really wanted kyousuke to do was go on that field and face soccer head on, and he did. but i hope we'll get to see them talk about it a bit more. love these 2

coach kudou taking responsibility for shindou's plays during that match and resigning??? if i had a nickel, right? anyways i hated his mustache at first but it's grown on me. i really like him. endou being his replacement also means so much to me given that kudou was his coach in season 3, aghhh the growth and the trust and the mutual respect!!! adore it SO much. also i'm grateful we got to see megane's goofy ass bc it was nice to see him again (before we even got to see kidou lmfao he really is the main character)

My design of him hasn't changed from my original idea but here he is colored

He's a disgusting bastard inside and later shows and out. I now have the idea that he keeps his eyes closed to look friendly looking but he later opens his eyes in his battle with him revealing how bloodshot they are.

Now I don't really have many hc for him, even though he's been my favorite villains since middle school. The most I had is that he trolls Yu by saying he's gonna get with Dojima and the investigation team hated him (the funniest one being Teddie because he's literally just hating because everyone else is).

If I were to come up with some new headcanons I feel like I have to replay the game over to get an idea. But even then I would need some inspo from the fandom and I REALLY DONT WANT TO LOOK AT THE ADACHI FANDOM! The last time I checked they like him a lil TOO much.

I like him in the way of dissecting him and his past that lead him to his point in life, hes not "my lil guy"

In middle school to high school I loved Adachi and HATED Akechi because it felt like the story was really trying to make us feel bad for him "boo hoo poor baby, doesn't it make you want to forgive him?" Like- NO!? He killed multiple people and us and is ACTIVELY trying to kill us, why would I forgive him just because the story says so??

So going from p5 to p4g I LOVED that cabbage man because all tho he gives his story and stuff he KNOWS he's a piece of shit and he goes to jail for it too. Never did I feel like the story was trying to redeem him and I love it for that. It also doesn't help that I GENUINELY like him before the reveal and was got swept up in emotions of "i can't believe he's the killer" "we trusted him" "why would he do this" as if I was Narukami himself. We got tricked, felt betrayed and Adachi revels in it because we were the dumbass kid that believed in him because we as humans naturally project our thoughts and beliefs on mystery things. I thought he was some underdog! Maybe it's because I was in middle school when watching a playthrough so I was naturally going to believe in the act but it got me.

And THATS the interesting thing, Adachi got me but not Akechi. And I watched my sister play p5 before even hearing about p4. I immediately despite him being how savvy he acted and the fact that Ryuji didn't like him FUCKIN VALIDATED my opinion on him. Then later The SAD backstory came in and it made my eyes roll, Like ya buddy I don't have a dad either but that doesn't mean you're seeing me on the news catching bodies bro! It just felt off

But for some reason Adachi's whole stick didn't feel like the story is trying to have you put pity on him. That backstory is just to understand his mind but not to justify it, and I like that. It feels like they trust us to have media literacy and although mines wasn't great at 14 it still felt better to have the opportunity to feel what you feel and not have the story crammed down a contradicting message and seeing the fandom eat it up.

btw I no longer hate Akechi and I understand the shuake but it aint for me, it's easier and funnier to bully the pancake boy.

The one thing I wish changed was the thing that Dojima goes through in the Adachi story mode in area ultimate. I understand he was ur police partner bro but truly what the hell is the visit for? THAT felt sooo wrong I couldn't even play it for laughs when I saw it. Someone make a oc or selfship for Dojima please, this man has too much time on his hands.

The Johnlock fandom was born long before BBC Sherlock aired. I think there was a speculation about them in the late 1800s but, obviously, talking about homosexuals was out of the question at the time. But the ship took off in 2010, when it all started.

I have met several people in the fandom who told me they didn't notice anything romantic between the two at first viewing, but then they had to change their minds with rewatches.

Now, it must be said that the characters themselves constantly imply that the two of them behave like a couple.

1. Mrs Hudson

From the first moment, in A Study in Pink, she believes that Sherlock has brought his new 'boyfriend' home.

In The Empty Hearse, she can't believe that John is now engaged to a woman.

"So soon after Sherlock?"

"Hmm... well, yes."

"What's his name?"

"It's a woman."

"A wOmAn?!?" and then she laughs. She sounds rather incredulous, perhaps believing he is moking her.

"You really have moved on, haven't you?"

2. Mycroft

Nobody knows Sherlock better than Mycroft. In A Study in Pink, when he meets John for the first time, he says: "Might we expect a happy announcement by the end of the week?" and literally Sherlock and John met the DAY BEFORE! Why would Mycroft bother stalking a poor army doctor if he doesn't believe that Sherlock could be attracted to him? 🤷🏼‍♀️

In The Final Problem, Mycroft already knew that Sherlock would sacrifice him and save John. Sherlock loves John more than Mycroft, AND HE'S HIS OWN BROTHER!

3. Angelo [the restaurant owner in A Study in Pink (although I prefer the one in the Unaired Pilot, better known as the Gay Pilot)].

Angelo has known Sherlock for years, and why would he make Sherlock attractive to John? "Hey, you know this macho guy got me out of prison?" "OH! Wait! I'll get you a phallus candle, that'll be very romantic. 🥰😍😛"

4. Donovan

In The Great Game, when Sherlock finds the abandoned car, Donovan says to John: "I see you're still hanging around him. Opposites attract, I suppose."

This one may not be the best example, but it's worth including.

5. Irene Adler

My God that woman. She's in love with Sherlock, and that's fine. Who wouldn't fall in love with Sherlock or his brain? But she also knows that Sherlock only has his heart set on John. In A Scandal in Belgravia, when they go to her house, she immediately says to Sherlock: "And somebody loves you. If I had to punch that face, I'd avoid your nose and teeth too."

Then, when John goes to Battersea and meets her, she asks: "Are you jealous?"

"We're not a couple."

"Yes, you are."

Again, she met them for literally 3 minutes and immediately realised it!

6. Mary

Mary should hate Sherlock to death (and I'm still convinced that she never liked Sherlock).

What was that proverb again? Respect the owner's dog for your own sake. It means: like the dog to please the owner. Or something like that.

In this case, the owner is John and the dog is Sherlock. It's obvious that at a certain point Mary starts shipping them, almost as if she doesn't really care about John.

7. Magnussen

In His Last Vow, Magnussen meets Sherlock and John for a few minutes, and immediately tells them: "You two are sooo domesticated." Later in the episode, he tells Sherlock that John is "your damsell in distress."

I hope this was exhaustive from Johnlock's point of view! Maybe try looking at it from another point of view and rewatch the whole serie. At that point, if you're still not convinced, it's okay, anon, we don't bite!

Moving on to Benedict and Martin... we all know that Martin has a particular character and that he has trouble getting along with literally anyone, but I don't believe the newspapers. They are journalists, they HAVE to cause a SCANDAL!! Otherwise no one would read them. They take sentences from a completely different context and pass them off as true. Take for example when it was said that Benedict had called Martin 'pathetic.'

There is a video of this interview. The presenter asked Benedict to drink tea the way Martin drinks it, Benedict imitates him and then says 'pathetic', but it is not strictly intended to refer to Martin.

I know for a fact that Martin took it out on Benedict when he got married to Sophie Hunter, just because he didn't invite Martin to his wedding. On the same day, Amanda reported Martin's tantrums on twitter!!! 🤣🤣

Anyway! Even if the rumors were true, it doesn't matter. It's their problem, not ours.

Yes, it may upset us as fans, but these two are real people in the real life.

Can you please yap about Flippy and Lumpy's relationship? They seem pretty close

OK THEY'RE PRETTY INTERESTING and I can see why they're a popular-ish duo! From the little times we see Flippy interacting with Lumpy HE GENERALY DOES TRUST THIS GUY. Trusted enough that he's willing to get therapy help from him, which means being vulnerable with him, which means opening up about parts of his trauma and his disorders where I'm sure no one else would've ever known. That's a huge deal imo. Lumpy is very close with Flippy and I feel a lot of ppl miss that and brush him off as just "some dumb guy" which is just surface level canon portrayal, but he's definitely much more than that.

I believe that in the Double Whammy episode, Lumpy is the one who suggested exposure therapy AFTER Flippy tried to OD and failed, and THEN we see that whole metaphorical battle between Flippy and Fliq. Because I guess it just makes more sense in my head (even if canon doesn't show it, IDC !!!!). Guy tries to end himself and then come back to his friend after realizing what he just did and reaches out for help bc he's terrified out of his mind of his attempt working one day. Scared of things getting worse than it is. He doesn't even know why he did it. God knows how mad Fliq is after managing to keep the body alive for so long just for the Host to do an attempt.

What I'm trying to get at here is that Lumpy, this guy has been through thick and thin with Flippy, in a way no other people have for him, changed his life for the better, hey! He doesn't get triggered from sudden noises anymore. Thanks to Lumpy's help on guiding him through this hard journey he's been able to genuinely heal and live a liveable life. I think Flippy can't thank him enough for it, for being there when no one else knew how to help. Oh they're also neighbors according to that one Still Alive episode so I do headcanon they visit eachother's houses a lot to hangout and do literally anything ever. Tea party? Board games? FPS games for Fliq lmao? Lumpy would love to do all that with him.

Fliq LOOOVES sports and I feel like these two would play basketball together late out (I NEED TO DRAW THAT... I have a vision), AND. AND THEY WORKOUT TOGETHER OH MY GOODNESS I LOVE THE IDEA OF THEM BEING WORKOUT BUDDIES. Hmm also sometimes Fliq gets impulsive and Lumpy is there to be like bro... BAD idea bro. He also breaks off or stops unnecessary fights from happening because I think Fliq is quite argumentative whenever anyone tries to mess with him lol,, like. "Oh you tryna pick a fight with me? I'LL SHOW YOU WHO YOU'RE FUCKIN' WITH!!!" n Lumpy goes to defuse the situation BAHAH. Definitely needs to work on Fliqs anger management. You got me thinking - for a character so romantic, so delighted to be in love Gale knew little about it with Mystra. He spoke about being her lover like it was a highest honor, losing her favor, being cut off described as fate worse than Netherese Orb itself. Gale agrees to die for her forgiveness no questions asked. All this while he realises deep down even through it was voiced later - he was her plaything, another mortal falling under her spell, no love requited ever could be there, gods don't feel it. It's very sweet and a little heartbreaking, how open and smitten he can be if romanced, how happy he becomes loving and being loved in return.

yes, that is everything that i find very touching about gale's romancce.

to me, gale is someone who hasn't truly known what love is yet. he has known worship and obedience, wonder and pleasure. i think, considering how young he was when mystra came into his life, it's perhaps no surprise at all that once their relationship changed, he may have thought it was love between them. it was most certainly for him. in fact, i do remember a particular line from early access that always stuck with me and truly showed the imbalance at work here:

Player: What did Mystra’s attention feel like? Gale: Love. 

and

Player: Teacher’s pet, was he? Gale: He fancied himself much more than that. He fancied himself favoured above all others. Perhaps it was not quite love, but you see, the wizard was but a very young man. It was most certainly love to him. Mystra showed him the secrets behind the veils. The gossamer veils first, draped across the Weave. The delicate veils next, draped across her body. ‘Chosen One’ she whispered, as she slipped them off completely.

and even now, in the full release version of the game, that sentiment still lingers. he wasn't just her chosen, he was her lover - and we learn throughout the game what love truly entails for gale: heart, mind, body and soul.

Gale: I'm many things to many people, but I'm never a man to throw the l-word around lightly. I said exactly what I meant: I love you. You should never, never doubt that. - Gale: We didn't just make love. We bonded, body and soul. I got lost in you.

with mystra casting him away, he not only lost his power, his status, but also one of his most central relationships with the goddess who was his teacher, mentor and love all at once, all at the same time.

but we also know that he had relationships before mystra and before the protag:

Gale: No, you are not the first. Though you are the first since my relationship with Mystra came to its ignominious end.

i think this quote is just so interesting, especially if you pair it with:

Gale: To know you love me for the man I am, and not the magic I command... None have loved me so purely before.

and:

Player: I love you. But for the man that you are. Not the god you'd pretend to be. Gale: But think what I offer. The vastness of eternity to explore, the Weave at our fingertips... You would really prefer me as I am? Node Context: Genuine, vulnerable - the player just told him they loved him in a way that no one else has

so whatever these relationships before were, it's clear that something was missing from them for gale. something that gale sorely needed.

all of these little puzzle pieces combine to a larger whole of why we find gale as he is when we meet him in the story: someone who very much is struggling to find any worth in the person that he is outside of what he can provide to be useful.

Gale: Let me make myself indispensable. - Gale: I'm indispensable, aren't I? - Gale: My best is yours. - Gale: Please - continue to believe in me. I want to show you the wizard I am capable of being, rather than the poor excuse for a man who's kept you company thus far.

there are so many more of these, following the same vein, even in act iii.

gale is only now learning how to be loved, how to allow himself to be loved, and under that continuous reaffirmation given by the protag, he opens up to it, strains towards it, like a flower to the sun.

Gale: You truly are a soul that steels my own. From all my new-rallied heart I thank you. I stand at a precipice, but if you do not give up hope, neither shall I. I'll fight, I'll resist - as long as I can. - Gale: You give me hope, and I've not had that in some time. - Player: How are you feeling? Gale: Worried, if I'm being honest. I have so much to live for - more than I thought I'd have again, after Mystra. - Gale: It's been so long since I used it. Gale Dekarios cuts a poor figure next to the wizarding prowess of 'Gale of Waterdeep'. Player: Gale Dekarios. I think I like him more. Gale: You like so many things about me I'd have sooner discarded... Your generosity is quite wonderful. - Gale: You see me as I am, and do not find me wanting.

he still has a very long way to go, to heal, it's not a process that's completed by the time his quest is completed or the game ends - and depending on your protag, they too have things that still weigh heavy on them as well - but it's a beginning.

bakugou for the character ask game?

Truly the teenage boy, shonen deuteragonist, love interest coded, gay asshole, of all time.

My first impression - Woah I did not understand why people were so into this guy. Like I get it, he's a flawed and loud pretty boy, he gets character development, and probably gay, but seriously him??? His mouth is so fucking foul and he is so up his ass. - I was meh with this character, enjoyed him in fan content, but just did not get why people were sooo into this guy.

My impression now - I cried in "Light Fades To Rain". Twice. - My god his growth...his will, his persistence, and by god his love for Izuku is so ridiculous and powerful I just cannot help but admire the little shithead. - He is also a lot more to me than I expected, with the whole "foul mouth shit", "high expectations bullshit", "violent urges", and "dedicating your whole life and love to someone you love and admire" and that...that makes me feel quite conflicted.

Favorite thing about that character - The thing about Bakugou is that...you just cannot help but wish you had the same kind of persistence, strength, will, and power that he does. I love how all this is initially so shallow and selfish, then grows to wanting to be a better and truer hero. He really learns and changes and is just an unstoppable force of nature, it's genuinely incredible and beautiful to watch.

Least favorite thing - I wished that the overall writing did go harder in making him stop bad-mouthing people and...everything so much. You can tell he did grow to respect and care for people around him more, but by gods he is sooo bad at communicating his feelings right now. (tbf, he is so fucking young and traumatized) - Also, really please stop hitting people. I get a knee-jerk reaction to that kind of physical violence sometimes ngl.

Favorite line/scene - There are so many. I already mentioned his death in "Light Fades to Rain" so I'll mention a different one - Team Bakugou in Class A vs B was so goddamn good, for being a monumental milestone of his character. How much he trusted his teammates and put himself in danger to save others, winning in the end. No injuries, no failures, truly a perfect beautiful victory. How he also pushes Deku to keep getting better afterwards in his usual constipated-ass language too. Man I just love that battle to death.

Favorite interaction that character has with another - (me pulling out scenes that aren't bkdk centered here hahaha) - I fucking LOVED the Bakugou vs Ochako fight. It made me love Ochako so so much as a kid. I really wished we had a follow-up to that battle, and it genuinely changed my life. - I love how it really shows just how focused and rational he is in battle. How he truly respects his opponents, Ochako in this case, and the sports festival really establishes so much about him.

A character that I wish that character would interact with more - Speaking of which...OCHAKO VS BAKUGO 2 COME ONNNN - There is SO MUCH these two need to talk about. How to save people, who they want to save, who saved them, never underestimating each other, how they changed and grew. I just love these two characters to bits, that's why I need them to FIGHT AND TALK SO BADDDD - Additional: Also Toga (see my post on Toga right before this one lmao), Shoto (because I still don't really get their friendship but its hilarious, and I love Shoto)

Another character from another fandom that reminds me of that character - I legit cannot think of anything here...like for Toga...I am so sorry my brain is blanking T__T - It's hard to be a massive anger-issue filled, victory-focused, die for their lover (twice), amazing chef, all at once, kinda guy...you know?

A headcanon about that character - I am a believer in trans!fem Bakugo in the future. He's so ridiculously angry for some reason, voice always cracking, and just on-edge for some reason. Idk I just think its hilarious and satisfying if he transed his gender in the future and became happier and more comfortable.

He keeps an eye out for anything and anyone who could possibly actually hurt Izuku, but he doesn't hold him back at all in hanging around with others, and when other people fall for Izuku either. - He is actually quite skinny, and doesn't have the big thick buff guy build. Those go to Izuku and Iida more imo.

Favorite picture - I never really thought of this much??? I love art of him being softer, more solemn, quiet and contemplative even. I guess I'll go pick out some favs right now...

i know it’s been said on here plenty of times but i genuinely get so upset when i see people continuously perpetuate the whole “Gehrman’s a creep and the Doll is a sex object theory” when there’s an actually direct in-game evidence showing that none of that is true. and yk what despite the posts abt this that already exist i am, in fact, gonna make one of my own.

Okay so first off, The Voiceline. You know the one.

Yeah this line got interpreted by a portion of the fandom as weird, especially because of the tone it’s said in. However, there are two pieces of context that immediately show what he meant by this.

The first, is that you DO use the Doll. She provides a service for you by taking your blood echoes and turning them into your strength (the level up system).

Aside from this, the ability to talk to her, and the option of giving her an item, there is nothing else you can do with her, and nothing else the game even implies you can do with her. She does not even have any truly “romantic” dialogue. She mentions that she loves you, but that she does because she was created to do so.

She loves all the hunters because her purpose is to care for them, and in her words, embolden their sickly spirits.

The second piece of context is in Gehrman’s dialogue just before he says the line about the Doll.

He is telling you that anything you find in the workshop is a tool you can use to strengthen yourself and make the hunt easier. He is referring to the Doll as a tool, because she is one of the few the workshop has not lost. He’s not sexualizing her, he’s talking about her like she is a tool, and something to be used, not seen as a person.

Is it a good thing? No, but considering he resents her for not being what he created her to be (or by another interpretation, coming to life when he never intended her to), it’s not unreasonable to assume that over time he would just categorize her as a thing instead of a person.

The second piece of evidence towards this god awful theory is the Doll’s white blood. Honestly I cannot believe people genuinely take this as being semen, because not only is there a canon reason for creatures to have pale blood, but also it’s just disgusting.

You need a minimum of one insight to see the Doll during the game, she was given life by the Moon Presence following Gehrman’s placement in the Hunter’s Dream, and she bleeds pale blood. She’s kin. (Yes I am aware the game does not consider her kin in regards to whether or not she can be dealt damage based gems that alter your attacks vs kin, but you’re not supposed to be fighting her anyway, and it’s not like you need a bonus to kill her in the first place).

And finally, to address the other big point, the item descriptions that appear on Maria’s Hunter Garb and the Doll’s Set.

I would like to address first, the obvious, that Maria’s garb says directly she was “unaware of his curious mania” (however you interpret that), but the point is she was unaware, he clearly in life, never made advances on her (which is something I’ve seen a few people state is ‘implied’???).

The second, and this one is a bit in the subtext, is that the Doll seems to not have any idea that Gehrman ever had any positive feelings towards her at all, she expresses a love for the hunter in a way that reflects someone who was never shown love in any capacity (likely due to the circumstances surrounding her achieving sentience), so its reasonable to assume as well that she was entirely unaware of the ‘curious mania’ as well.

Additionally I would point out that while referencing Gehrman’s mania once more, the Doll’s description also directly states that she was once loved and cared for, something that changed after she gained sentience. She likely served as a memorial for Maria, considering there is no canon evidence Maria herself actually has a grave.

The grave that provides the Old Hunter Bone may be hers, but the item description refers to the hunter it came from as “he.” This could be due to it being placed there prior to the decision to give Maria the quickening skill in her boss fight, or it could be that Maria did not have a proper grave for whatever reason, and thus the Doll was needed, which could then relate the obsession to an obsession with Gehrman keeping a memory of her, as there is nothing else he seems to have of her.

Everything here aside I would like to also point out that the Doll is quite literally, a doll. There is nothing that would even suggest she would be capable of any sort of sexual relationship.

Especially because even before the Dream, the Doll did have a specific purpose. She seems to be modeled after Victorian mourning dolls, which were items used to help families/loved ones process grief, typically of children, by having something to remind them of the deceased that did not itself look deceased. If you consider the grave in the Abandoned Old Workshop to be Maria’s and know that that’s also where the Doll is in the waking world, then that’s probably what she’s for. Or as stated before, the grave may NOT be hers, and the Doll itself IS her grave.

Another thing I didn’t point out but will, for a moment get into, is the Doll’s clothing being feminized. A lot of people take this as Gehrman being a misogynist and sexualizing her in a more feminine way as if he himself was not training Maria (and likely other women) to be hunters during his life. He encouraged the less feminine life she lived as a hunter!

That point always confuses me, especially knowing that one of the last things Maria likely said to Gehrman was what she said after the massacre at the Fishing Hamlet where she threw away her weapon and renounced the hunt, choosing to retire (and potentially become a caretaker for the Church’s patients, judging by her role in the Hunter’s Nightmare). Like OF COURSE he dressed her like that, she expressed that she no longer wanted to be a hunter so he made her the opposite. The only reason she is dressed the way she is in the Hunter’s Nightmare is because that is how Kos is depicting her, not because it’s her conscious choice.

The point of this is, Gehrman is one of my all time favorite characters alongside Maria and the Doll, and while yes, I am well aware he isn’t perfect, it’s still frustrating to see him get so mischaracterized by a fandom who insists they love lore so much, and care about the tiny details. You can dislike Gehrman or think he does shitty things and that’s fine, but creating a story where he’s a creep just to prove you care about Maria and the Doll is weird. And it’s weirdER that people argue IN FAVOR of the theory as if it MUST be true, because honestly why would anyone even want it to be???

This post also was specifically done without consideration for whatever type of relationship Gehrman and Maria had according to canon or any interpretations. Essentially I’m not necessarily saying any of this has anything to do with whether or not you ship them, I personally don’t, but I know some people do, and I feel like on either side you can still be critical of this Doll theory, as it is entirely baseless.

Finnick is actually “Francesca” by Hozier. It makes me cry (buckle up this is long)

So here’s some historical context for those who don’t know. In Dante’s Inferno (the book that Hoziers whole album is based off of) Dante meets Francesca and her lover in one of the circles of hell.

Francesca was a real woman whose story is very tragic. Francesca Da Rimini’s story is what inspired this song She had a lover and she kinda describes slowing falling into love with this man. That it wasn’t a choice and now it kinda comes onto her. However she was forced to marry the man’s brother. They had an affair that ended with the brother (Francesca’s husband) killing the both of them. And even sadder Francesca’s blocked her husband from killing her lover so she died first.

So Francesca tells the whole story as she’s in hell, facing internal punishment (note: she is with her lover)

Honestly this can be taken in two ways, after sweet girls first games (FG) or after the quarter quell (QQ).

FG: sweet girl doesn’t trust herself. She killed her best friend, she lied and tricked everyone so of course she believes Finnick couldn’t love her anymore. That she was a monster and couldn’t be trusted. Finnick, however, would literally say this “how could you think I’d scare so easily” what she did in the arena wasn’t going to scare him from her, he finally had her again.

QQ: OH MY GOD OKAY- post sweet girl getting hijacked, around when she’s STARTING to feel more like herself I could defiantly see her as thinking Finnick should give up on her. She’s too damaged at this point so why should he stay? She’s been terrible to him. Finnick, however, wouldn’t even dream of it. Her being scared hasn’t “shook the love from [him]”, and he isn’t about to give up so easily.

OH MY GOD SO THIS ONE. It’s obvious sweet girl views herself as untrustworthy, as something that could destroy everything. She doesn’t trust herself and she fears hurting others. This line can really describe ways in which I think Finnick would help quell that.

Cause despite everything there are parts of sweet girl that are difficult but Finnick thinks he’s built to deal with it. He’s gone through worse and being with her isn’t hard. It’s nothing to him, yet it’s everything. He would brave any hurricane because to him she’s worth it (plus he views himself as worse)

He’s in district 13, he just survived the quarter quell, he’s suffering, and all he has is his memories of her. you can look at this line as, again, Finnick saying if he is able to be with his sweet girl, even if for a moment, even if it’s tragic at the end, he would do whatever needs to be done. He doesn’t care that he suffers, he cares she is there. to him she is so unbelievably good, she’s worth suffering for. He’d go through the games, the torture, the war, all of it, if in the end he gets to be with her.

Plus add in the fact that he genuinely can’t believe she’s real. She’s so good in his eyes.

Like sweet girl being Francesa obviously and Finnick the lover and symbolically the Capitol is the husband, she is married to her image and let's it kill her first, but anywayssss

yes yes yes, finnick, is so so very "how could you think darlin' I'd scare so easily?" coded in both cases. he would never leave her because of the actions she took to survive in the games, he has been there himself. and he'd never judge her for her trauma response bc he completely understands. it's also very mary on a cross "your beauty never ever scared me" coded

additionally, finnick wouldn't change the things he did to ensure her win. his treatment of Conway, even though he was also his tribute and under his care. the things he had to due to ensure her sponsors. he worked overtime and wouldn't have done anything less for her safety.

and finnick has never been scared about what the Capitol or Snow would do to him. he left her to protect her. he broke all the rules he could to help her win. he would defy the Capitol in every way, do whatever it takes to protect her. so despite her feeling like she is the disaster, he will always brave any storm for her.

Soccer Ball, More Like Sock Her Balls by grandmascokebag, MystK04. I cannot describe this fic in a way that does it justice. It's a Jujutsu Kaisen modern: no powers AU that is so fucking ridiculous at every point and turn that it is impossible to not laugh. It's pure crack for the sake of crack and I love it to PIECES. I think they did genuinely upload on some rough days of mine by coincidence, and it is sufficient to say that I was cracking up even when I saw the EMAIL for the update. I mean, really. Look at the title. Look at who WROTE IT. The authors have such a talent at being stupid and funny and ridiculous in every single line just for the hell of it. And, you know, it actually DOES have a plotline. It just has some sidequests along the way.

It's just a silly crack fic that hasn't been updated in half a year. But I sitll have hope that one day the authors are gonna come around and add one more chapter. That would certainly put a smile on my face. Maybe they'll do it when I'm having a bad day again...

➼ 📆 A fic you’d re-read 10 years from now

... When I Awake by wildflowertea. NO I am not just saying this because you wrote it. I am saying this because this fic literally changed my perspective on life, death, and suffering.

Not to get into my feelings too much, but I do experience some pretty crazy mood swings every couple of months. I will be doing well, phenomenally so, and then I will collapse and burn out of nowhere. I don't talk about my swings publicly anymore because that's just not what I really do; if I need a place or space to rant, I have friends and family. I no longer feel the need to air out my current/active grievances and struggles with my mental health and body on the Internet. I also think it would be weird considering what people follow me for (which is, decidedly, not for my mental health journey).

But anyway, the point is: I am familiar with depression and general angst and how it affects me. I have lived life as much as the next person. I know that, in a decade from now, I may have forgotten some of the lessons I learned when I originally read your fic. Beyond being an amazingly well-written, well-structured fic, you literally changed my life. When I write, I aspire to craft something as elegantly as you did. So, if I am being completely honest, this is the fic I imagine I will be crawling back to in a decade from now. I will have new life experiences, new outlooks, and I imagine I will want to see how that compares to the fic you finished two years ago (GOD it's been two years already?)

For anyone unaware: this is a Bungou Stray Dogs fic where Dazai is the spirit of his comatose body after a failed(?) suicide attempt, and Chuuya is a musician who just lost his father and is thus taking a complete detox from the world itself by trapping himself in (unknowingly) Dazai's old apartment to wrap himself in his pain and misery. Neither are in a good place at the beginning of the fic. But, somehow, they come out quite alright. I cried 3 times reading this, if it gives any of you any sort of clue as to how emotionally this impacted me.

“Why am I here?” Dazai asks. “After all this time.” Death stares at him, its one visible eye narrowed. “Are you here to take me away?” Death raises an eyebrow as if insulted by the very implications.  “I am not cruel, Osamu.” But that is no answer.  “Walk with me.” “No,” Dazai says. 

(The entire meeting with Death is my favorite scene in the entirety of this story, if that wasn't obvious. It made me feel. It made me feel a LOT.)

okay so this is just my opinion up to the cortex center cuz im currently getting my ass beat 💜 BUT ive done all the optional shit so far !! so heres my ranking

1: LADY ETHEREAL

MADOKA WITCH ASS BOSS FIGHT. THREE PHASES OF HYPE.

the entire leadup through the "hot springs". the reveal of what happened to the soulscape team. the way the background ost changed. the fucking CHANTING in the last platforming section broken up by her singing??? GOD.

the boss fight itself?? LUNACY. i love how its so aggressive and rewarding and how the first phase teaches you her moves so you can keep up as she ups the intensity, how she makes shadow clones for all the members of her team for her phase 3, its such an INTENSE fight that never feels unfair, i ALWAYS feel like im right on the brink of "getting" it, and visually its just gorgeous. i feel like nine sols peaks right here but im not even upset because GOD what a TREAT!!! ITS SO BEAUTIFUL my first three runs i died just from looking at the scenery!!! quite literally one of the best boss fights ive gotten to experience period, im gonna miss it when im done

2: Jiequan

super saiyan ass FREAK i LOVE him

another intensely punishing fight that has FANTASTIC buildup, they rly do a great job of making you HATE him, between locking you in prison and threatening shuanshuan. his whole EVERYTHING is so cool and interesting, the transmutation forges is such a kickass concept its going to live in my brain forever now. his ideology is genuinely nuts but entirely consistent with his life experience and i enjoy that he spends several cutscenes just in the nude because hes That Bitch. he has such an aristocratic bearing even despite being batshit that it rly sells the vibe of fighting a corrupt nobleman even tho that concept doesnt even really apply with the current state of affairs in game.

his boss fight was the closest i got to frustrated, its such a punishing fight but as a tutorial for unbounded counters its REALLY rewarding. figuring that out and successfully applying it in fight was so rewarding, especially because i had gotten the rest of his moveset down, so finally mastering counters felt like the last keystone in a nearly completed arch. his phase 2 super saiyan shit was so fucking funny even tho his teleports fucked my shit up crazy hands style.

frustrating but enjoyable!!

3: Xingtian

SORRY CHIYOU BUT HE WAS COMIN AT ME WITH AN AXE

as a rare Capra Demon DS1 defender, i always enjoy boss fights that make use of cramped arena space to make you aware of your spacing!! another hyper aggressive fight that doesnt let you get breathing room, forcing you to make it yourself. not particularly hard but fun nonetheless! and aesthetically VERY cool

4: Goumang

evil bird lady kinda hot!

the buildup here is what rly sells it, the entire greenhouse area is so delightfully disturbing and the jiangshi soldiers are REALLY cool!! the fight itself is pretty repetitive and the jiangshi combatants dont have enough in their kit to be really engaging, but props for making you manage two reviving enemies at once, keeping you from being able to "check out". i mean you can still check out anyways like i did by only killing one and getting the other to half, and then finishing it off while the first one revives before smacking goumang around, but the intention was to manage both bosses at once at i give it props for that

5: Kanghui

a glorified mob of enemies fight that earns bonus points for having the pipe refill station right outside and being existentially horrifying! i enjoy the detail that he despite being horrifically transformed, he keeps his familys ring on, as some tie back to the person he used to be. sorry about your everything buddy! however, cloud piercer s into mob quell talisman explosion

only took me a few tries and that was mostly cuz i was surprised by his blood spear explosion

6: Yingzhao

WHAT A BOSS DESIGN!!! WOAWG

not a lot to talk about here! i enjoy the fucked up centaur look, and a really good "proper" first boss fight (as opposed to the miniboss mfs youve been fighting up until then)

his phase 2 caught me completely off guard but IS genuinely pretty cool! i enjoy monsters that take the idea of a horse mounted spearman and fuse the soldier and horse together, which is like an entire CATEGORY of Cool Boss Designs. yingzhao earns bonus points for having metal plates that mimic an armored skirt on the back end of the horse

7: The Varying Enemy-Turned-Minibosses Scattered Throughout the Levels, And Also Baichang Technically

not a lot of memorable fight design going on here, just a higher intensity version of typically already annoying fights. The level design starts contributing more memorable details, like making sure all the archers are taken out in the factory, or finding and destroying a shield generator before actually getting into the fight (or finding the light switch in the mines), but overall its Just Some Guy with more health and a more aggressive moveset. the designs have all been really enjoyable so far tho and ive liked looking at them, but i HAVE cheesed several just out of boredom

8: Sky Rending Claw

what a nothingburger ass fight. much like yanlao himself, its very much a boss fight that overstays its welcome and wont get itself into the grave. yanlao himself has some of the better parts of the game under his belt, with a katana zero-esque meat grinder section forcing you to sprint your way through a killbox while he tries to snipe you (with bangin tunes in the background) that doubles as the defense mechanism for a vault containing a civilizations worth of treasures, and a genuinely funny bit of banter earlier where he tells old man anecdotes to babble on stalling for time until xingtian activates, but the sky claw section was just such a wet fart. the moveset was repetitive, the boss itself was dull and boring looking, the framing was done better literally a section ago with going through the vault, and my main reaction to all of it was "more?? theres MORE i have to do before you die??? ugh"

a thematically appropriate sendoff for yanlao but overall one that i could have done without. its giving "this could have been an email"
