still ruminating over Lost In the Book With Spooky Skeletons Part 1, so here's a selection of some of my favorite little bits! (...some more loosely paraphrased than others) (I just feel like Idia has no room to criticize in general, okay)

anyway, I'm sure we're just going to have a fun time celebrating Halloween and nothing bad is going to happen whatsoever! :)

my wine night group--which is, barring myself, 100% mothers of small children in the detroit metro area; I am not sure how I landed in this social circle but they are fun--is doing a holiday gift exchange where you bring an item under $40 that was your "favorite thing" this year.

Friends I am struggling to come up with anything at all that fits into this category that other people in this group would like. My favorite purchases of the last year (which aren't secondhand and could therefore be replicated) are 1. my track saw and 2. my jigsaw. Which are both well outsidethe $40 range. Help.

Thinking about the Little Brother marine who was stuck in the ice yelling for his brother..

And at first it seems like he’s yelling for help and the Big Brother marine immediately reacts, despite initially starting his story with not liking his brother, bc hey shit his little brother needs help.

Big Brother tries a good 2 or 3 times and was impeded by the other fights, the destruction of the very land he was standing on, and his hurt leg, but by god he tried.

Until he was faced with beams of light threatening to rip him to shreds. So yeah he turns and attempts to run.

Then he hears “IM YOUR LITTLE BROTHER” from Luffy and we suddenly cut to Little Brother who has finally seen Big Brother.

All he sees is his clumsy bumbling Big Brother frozen in the battlefield. And he yells for him to run. Run away from him. From harm.

He was never calling for help. Little Brother was trying desperately to search for his precious Big Brother in the wreckage, despite being trapped himself.

And here we see how starkly both Little and Big Brother are equal parts Luffy and Ace.

Little Brother is the one trapped (like Ace), but he’s nonetheless desperately searching for Big Brother so he can save him (like Luffy). But when it comes down to it, he yells at Big Brother to run so he can save himself, like Ace.

Meanwhile Big Brother’s natural instinct is to save Little Brother (like Ace) regardless of pain or obstacle (like Luffy). It took one brief reminder of who he is and what the circumstances were to get to this point, but he mustered that courage and ran to save his little brother.

And despite being set up for this backstory with “I hate my little brother” and Little Brother teasing Big Brother repeatedly about being clumsy or not climbing the ranks quick enough, we see how clearly they love each other.

Little Brother wanting to make sure Big Brother could fight comfortably. Big Brother letting him get away with all his teasing.

And at the end when Mini Nami comments on this dynamic and how Little Brother acts the jerk but Big Brother loves him enough to ignore it.

But you know that it took watching someone else fight desperately to save their brother and ultimately lose them, for Big Brother to appreciate being able to keep his own.

listen. this may sound like a reach but I don’t think house’s eagerness to go to the lesbian bar with thirteen was fetishistic glee. because like. okay. straight men love lesbians. but it’s only ever in a “conventionally attractive porn stars making out”, “I’ll pay these 2 strippers to kiss” sort of way, not exactly in the sense that they like to surround themselves with regular, real life sapphics. in fact, most hetero men despise the lesbians they meet in real life because they see them as either unattainable or unappealing disappointments to their fantasies. now, listen. house isn’t stupid, it’s not like he thought thirteen was gonna let him in on some hot girl-on-girl voyeuristic action, and he certainly knew he wasn’t about to get laid himself at a bar of ALL WLW. he’s an overconfident perv, sure, but not the kind who thinks he can ‘convert’ a gay gal, nor would he even desire to. the damn patient of the week is a guy who tried to ECT himself straight, which house obviously doesn’t believe is reasonable (this episode also gave us the shot where both house & thirteen are shown making a face in response to “I’m as straight as any of you!”)

with all of this laid out, you kinda have to assume that he was excited about the bar for another reason. dare I say it was simply… the joy of existing in a queer space as a queer person?

ok idk if anyone except me noticed or cared but this is MY BLOG so yall get to hear about it anyways

I've been listening to the Tristamp ost while I've been studying and I've noticed that Vash's character instrument is a harmonica. Most of his character songs/character adjacent songs (Mystery Man, Common Front, Vash the Stampede) have harmonica as a prominent part of the arrangement. It's not solely in "Vash songs", it's actually shared with a lot of other background music/ "regular people" songs (No Man's Land, Jeneora Rock, Hungry). I think this is a great way to show how Vash is invested in the lives of these people. Whereas Knives's piano is almost exclusively for him, which is isolating and adds automatic, recognizable tension whenever you hear it.

Also! There's this cool "Aim, Fire!" backing chorus in a lot of Vash songs that adds an extremely spaghetti western beat, which I adore. (you can hear it in The Jeneora Rock Resistance) Especially since there's lyrics from Vash's perspective in his character songs that make it seem like this is the inside of his head/the energy he's moving with.

it's been said before but the magnus archives truly has the ship names of all time. all of the ones Ive heard are so lovely - lonelyeyes, ParaSight, doorkeay - EXCEPT for ones involving the literal protagonist. which are jmart. jontim. jonelias. what is wrong with us why did we do that

I work with horses for a living and I’d like to hop on the bandwagon and suggest some breeds. I can’t remember if your beans are Italian, but that’s the assumption I’ve been going with so I apologize if I’m wrong!

Machete: Sardinian Anglo-Arab or Cavallino di Monterufoli

Vasco: Salernitano or Lipizzano (they come in colors that aren’t grey)

I have other recs if they aren’t Italian. I would add Neapolitan to Vasco, but you won’t find many (if any) photos of them. It went extinct in the 50s as its own unique breed. The Lipizzano is a descendant.

“You don’t have to make the elevator noise” and “Masters of she—” “The elevator is slow” is so funny to me because Izzy clearly loves and respects Brennan’s comedic and personality style, but every once in a while she has to snipe him for the bit and it’s the funniest thing in the world.
