yall know whats happening in the world which album is dropping which celebs are dating which trends are popping and blah blah but are you aware of the genocide happening in palestine since last october ??? its about to be a year of this ongoing crisis and ive even seen friends casually eating kfc while ignoring the suffering?? how can you be so indifferent we started boycotting things right?? its the least we can do if you cant fund anything thats okay at least boycott and share whats happening there. we all have social media sharing this wont ruin your accounts aesthetics im sorry but i cant include you in the category of human if you refuse to speak up about this palestine is slowly being forgotten and people are no longer sharing whats happening SILENCE IS COMPLICITY we need to keep the conversation alive stand in solidarity and make sure their voices arent lost in the noise :)

i have to admit one of the most genuinely unsettling developments in fandom recently has been fans reading a book where Gyatso muses about spreading their teachings to other nations and immediately assuming they mean in exactly the same way as colonial proselyting rather than simply... well, spreading their teachings without it being the same thing as imposing their culture on others
and, for that matter, saying that Gyatso is as bad as Sozin for thinking that inspiring others to embrace pacifism would be a good idea.
That Gyatso is as bad as Sozin.
That a wise monk is as bad as the genocidal warmonger and conquering imperialist who wiped out Gyatso's people and began a hundred year war of conquest and cultural destruction.
That Gyatso was as bad as the person who outright genocided Gyatso's people. And the worst part about it is that this seems to be largely a negative response from people in fandom who are getting very quick to excuse the Fire Nation as not 'really' being fascist or colonizing or demonize the Air Nomads (again, the civilization of pacifist monks that were genocided to such a degree that its the whole reason the original series is called 'The Last Airbender', because the others are all dead) or accuse the Air Nomads as deserving to be wiped out, or conclude that teaching others if they are receptive to it is the same thing as explicitly stamping out cultural practices and ways of life (which, again, the Fire Nation is explicitly doing), or insisting that the Air Nomads are outright racist while claiming the Fire Nation is neither racist or classist (despite a standard insult from Zuko and Azula at their most antagonistic is constantly demeaning Katara or Sokka as 'peasants', or other Fire Nation characters referring to the Water Tribes as 'barbarians' and 'savages', or referring to Earthbending in equally demeaning terms)
Its largely from parts of fandom that has been increasingly growing more insular and saying things like this for a while, growing defensive of the Fire Nation (my guess is because they're often based in shipping arguments that have increasingly come to focus on their cultures and were already favoring the Fire Nation for its sense of power and luxury, which is constantly emphasized in the most common ship dynamics by some groups), and I think that its just kept escalating until we're now at the position where you're getting people saying "the Fire Nation was right to genocide the Air Nomads' and its horrifying to hear, but also unsurprising. Some of these particularly extreme aspects of fandom have already been in this base for a while.
It's unsettling to see them mask off so violently, but its not surprising. Acting like Gyatso is more evil than the genocidal warmonger who winds up killing him because of his dislike for the Fire Nation's racist views (established in other stuff as far predating the Hundred Year War, and leading up to it) and contemplating teaching people in other nations is exactly the same thing as coercive missionaries with colonial intentions.
It's honestly come full circle from the canon of the series being that the Air Nomads were a tragic first victim of the Fire Nation's war and Aang, their last survivor, must end that war, to these outspoken fandom people insisting the Fire Nation did nothing wrong, that they were justified in burning all the Air Nomads alive, and that Aang is the true villain of the setting, largely because of dislike of him from shipping purposes or being angry that the series didn't abruptly detour at the last second into a 'killing everyone who gets in your way is moral and never has long-term consequences' story that is antithetical to the series' big emphasis on harmony, long-term consequences, and that doing things spiritually is more important than getting them done quicker.

sometimes i see a post and its like. hm. you actually care very little about the story or characters or plot at all bc all you want is for the token male twinks to kiss.
#i KNOW i know. tumblr. twink kissing website.#but still. genuinely.#my criteria for if i trust someone's takes on voltron are their opinions on allura and hunk. and ships other than klance.#and the non-romantic relationships also. that's a big main one actually.#has not led me astray yet.#like to clarify i LIKE klance ok. i am an enjoyer of them. but idk.....the way that theyre the Only thing anyone writes/cares about.#like yeah klance was done dirty but what about the characters of color. what about the disabled characters.#what about the platonic relationships. what about the familial relationships. what about the themes of war and genocide and imperialism.#what about the very real queerbait that happened right in front of us but everyone ignored#and whined about the fake made up queerbait that happened in their heads.#idk. people can engage with media however they want and its not a horrible world ending thing if they only view it thru the twinks kissing#but i dunno. viewing media with the shipping lens can blind you to all the other things.#AND I KNOW THE IRONY OF POINTING THIS OUT FOR *VOLTRON* OF ALL THINGS. I KNOWWW I KNOW I KNOW.#its not a problem that is exclusively this fandom either i see it everywhere. side eyes buddie fandom.#but idk man. im sick of not being able to find fic/art/meta that is focused on things other than the twinks kissing.#i think thats why im putting such a big focus on the other relationships in quintenary stars tbh. like there IS klance#or will be eventually but its just one of the relationships that will be happening. theyre found family theres siblings theres friends#theres the Themes and the Motifs and the storytelling devices. et cetera et cetera.#anyway this isnt really directed at anyone im just thinking out loud#winter speaks#voltron#anti klance#<- not really???? but i dont want ppl yelling at me so.

Burnin Konn was not a pretty or peaceful planet, it was not free of the Empire, and it was not home to an abundance of places to hide, Bo-Katan wasn’t sure why she’d smashed these coordinates into her navigation system, but she’d landed and stumbled off into the carbon dusted plains, winding her way into harsh lit craigs and moved right to the nearest bar to drown herself.
Losing track of the time wasn’t hard; losing the looming memory and the still persistent ache in her bones was impossible. Even through the numbness of alcohol burning in her veins, she could still feel the bruises and the gross stickiness of blood, seeped into the fabric of her flight suit and plastering it to her skin.
No one bothered her as she sat at the bar, too involved in their own troubles and the aches of the Empire; just like her. Patrons came and went, yet Bo-Katan remained, frozen in her stool even as the Republic broadcast was forced to life in the room. The walls started to close in as the destruction of Mandalore was recounted with nonchalance, as the holo projected the demise of her people, home, and everything she’d ever fought for.
Her glass smashed into the top of the bar with a clatter, Imperial credits were tossed onto the counter, and bodies were shoved past on her way from the muggy interior. The alley wasn’t as bright as the entrances of the craigs the people had built their lives in, the smell of sulfur and wastewater hung thick in the damp air, and the sounds of drilling equipment from far below
Her hearing was fuzzy- had been since her comms erupted with the sounds of bombs breaching Mandalore’s atmosphere and crashed into the cities of people, a dull, persistent ringing echoing through her skull and into her very soul since losing communication with all planet-side forces.
A clatter at the end of the alley yanked her attention from the pattern of stone, pulling her westar and firing a blind shot into a metal can. A tooka scurried from the shot, hissing and yowling as it scurried past Bo-Katan and to the open world of winding tunnels outside.
Swallowing the rapid beating of her heart in her throat and forcing the shaking in her hands to still just enough to stow her blaster, Bo-Katan’s shoulders drooped, the toe of her boot catching in a murky puddle as she approached the damage.
“Bo-Katan,” A voice from behind had her wishing she hadn’t stowed her blaster, finger itching towards her holster as her head turned. A thick cloak covered the broad shoulders of the Togruta, though Bo-Katan wasn’t able to focus much on their appearance as a planet-rumbling explosion occurred from one of the mines below, sprinkling debris from the cavernous ceilings of the little craig.
She wasn’t on Burnin Konn anymore, instead she found herself trapped on the surface of Mandalore, trying to escape the explosions as bodies succumbed to the flames around her, passing bloodline after bloodline, clan sigil and sigil, knowing that because of her, the clan would never be sung again, that it was her fault.
“Bo-Katan,” There were hands grabbing onto her arms, she could feel the dull pain of her wrist sprain like it was in another body, far away from Mandalore and the ruination of her people. “Bo, can you hear me?” The voice was distorted, echoing and faint, like Ursa’s voice when she called out for Bo-Katan upon realizing what the two members of Clan Kryze had left to do; failing in every aspect of the mission she’d set out on.
Her back hit the wall, armor scratching against the stone as she slid down it, her chest rattled with each breath, as if her lungs could not contain the fire and ash of destruction any longer, as if her body had finally grown weary of all the war. She could feel a gross, thick wetness as her ass landed in the puddle, but like the pain in her injuries, they were felt through another body in another time. She had to keep moving, if she could just save one Mandalorian, this would be worth it-
Strong fingers pressed into her jaw, a calloused thumb stroked around the tender skin of a bruise on her cheek. “Alright, come on, let’s get you up,”
There was no fight to be had when the other woman moved her, Ahsoka had grown tenfold since the last time Bo-Katan had seen her, packing on more muscle than even most Mandalorians that Bo-Katan knew or… had known.
“Where’s your helmet?” The Togruta tried once more as she settled the Mandalorian’s arm across her shoulders, her arm wrapping tight around Bo’s waist as the redhead’s weight leaned entirely into her.
Bo-Katan did not respond, could not respond even if she wanted to as her fingers curled into the thick fabric of Ahsoka’s cloak. “Alright, we’ll figure it out later,”
Even with her mind’s split between realities, Bo-Katan still memorized the turns Ahsoka led her through. Right out of the alley, left into the lifts higher in the caves, right out of the lift, right into a less crowded housing section, and left to the third building on the seventh level carved into stone.
Etchings in the stone promised safety in the markings of Agent Fulcrum, worn away by the years but carved as a truth, somewhere safe; possibly the only place the remains of the Galactic Empire could not hurt them. At least, that’s what she had to tell herself in order to allow Ahsoka to guide her past the threshold.
“Just a little further,” Ahsoka promised, though Bo-Katan’s legs refused to comply with her orders to move, knees locking as the muscles in her legs quivered, shaking with the weight pressing down on her until failure sent her careening towards the floor comprised of mostly ‘soft’, dusty rugs.
Ahsoka’s fingers hooked into her back plate, stopping the woman’s chest and face from smacking into the floor as her arms moved too sluggishly to be useful in catching herself.
Getting the Mandalorian back up was a struggle with the weight of all the armor, Ahsoka had to cheat with the force to haul her up. “Here,” Groaning in effort, Ahsoka managed to get Bo-Katan to the work out couch in the center of the small home. Two doors, no windows, small vents, only one way out.
Kneeling in front of Bo-Katan’s boneless form on the couch, Ahsoka reached for her face. The Mandalorian did not shy away as the younger woman’s larger hand moved to cup her face, leaning into the warmth offered as chartreuse eyes blinked open at last. “There you are,”
“Where’s Sabine?” Bo’s lips pulled into a wince as her voice slurred like the sloshed liquid in the emptiness of her stomach, threatening to come back up.
“She’s safe,” Was all Ahsoka could disclose, even if it burned the defeated Mandalorian up, she could still breathe a weighty sigh of relief; Clan Wren was not ended by her cowardice, it lived on in Sabine, now, like Clan Kryze now rested entirely on her own shoulders.
Ahsoka did not ask, and Bo-Katan didn’t offer as the dar-jetti pulled her armor away, the smell of sulfur and the electric smell of scorched armor and fabric released into the small safehouse as battle ruined clothes were removed.
“Will the New Republic do anything to help?” Bo-Katan asked at last as she sobered, goosebumps rose on pale skin as Ahsoka passed her a damp, mostly clean, rag to clean away blood while she prepared Bacta.
“Bo, Mandalore never…” Ahsoka exhaled, focusing hard on the patch of busted blood vessels under the older woman’s skin, purple and green blooming far and wide to cover her abdomen in an ugly bruise. “No, they probably won’t,” Bo-Katan scoffed at the answer, allowing the silence to sit between them once again, this time simmering as they handled the bare minimum of putting the Mandalorian survivor back together.
Wounds tended to and grime mostly cleaned, Bo-Katan reached for her flight suit. “You can’t seriously be going back out there.” Ahsoka argued, rising from the floor to place her hand on the woman’s arm.
“ Somebody has to see if there are other survivors,” Bo spat venomously, yanking her arm from the Togruta’s hand to shove her legs into her pants, securing them without giving Ahsoka another look.
“By getting yourself killed? That isn’t the Mandalorian way,” “You think I’ll be a Mandalorian when this is over?” The laugh that bubbled past her lips was raw, bitter, furious, everything Bo-Katan was supposed to have grown from; everything she was the first time Ahsoka had met her, all those years ago.
“If the Republic won’t help,” Shoving her arms through her jacket, the woman started fighting her armor back on over her limbs. “Then I’ll do it myself.”
“Sabine will lose you too,” Ahsoka pointed out, nose twitching as she watched the mess of a Mandalorian finish forcing her armor back together in record speed. “You can’t do that to her,”
“Watch me,”
At least The Force was on Ahsoka’s side, as Bo-Katan pushed for the door, shoulder bumping harshly into her own without care, Ahsoka was able to slip the datacard with her plans on it into the woman’s holster, not even questioning where her second blaster had gone; Bo wouldn’t have answered even if she wanted to know.
“When you grow up, come find me,” She remarked sourly, after the door slid shut behind the redhead.

Gazes at you so sweetly... Tell us of the au! 🐈‍⬛
OKAY so its like a kinda generic Role Swap idea with Belos and Caleb, right? But the thing is, it's not so cut and dried as that as everyone else has pretty much the same role, or one very adjacent to canon. The idea is what if Philip and Caleb got lost in the Demon Realm while they were still children?
Philip, struggling to be accepted by the populous of Gravesfield, follows the first sign of witchcraft he can. That ends up being a teen-aged Evelyn who isn't supposed to be in the human world. Ultimately, Caleb is the one who chases after his brother in hopes of saving him from the grasps of a witch. When he finally finds his brother, he realizes that they are both trapped in this unfamiliar land, and he ends up blaming Evelyn for it.
The search for a way home is similar bout now Caleb and Philip are a united, albeit younger, front. A key incident involved a Crab Maiden and her guardian while they were at Bonesborough. The Crab Maiden shows Philip how to use magic without having been born in the Demon Realm through the use of a light glyph. However, the guardian begins to act strangely, with the added oddity of feathers and fangs. Ultimately, the woman ends up busting Philip's nose and severely injuring his arm before vanishing. Caleb ends up hiding the extent of his injury and his resentment of witches grows, while Philip is left with an intense interest in finding more glyphs and understanding the demon realm.
When Caleb's arm becomes fatal if he leaves it, he replaces it with one made of palistrom wood, binding it to his body with what he doesn't know is Titan's blood. The entire altercation has made him fearful for the survival of his brother and himself. He vows that he will find a way to return to the human realm no matter what. Even if it means finding a way to keephis brother frozen in time while he works. Even if it means cultivating Grimwalkers from the remnants of his arm.
Even if it means bringing the Isles to ruin. After all, it's residents have proven time and time again that they aren't worth sparing. They're dangerous, just like the people of Gravesfield said.
He just needs to live long enough to see this through.

"One whisper, added to a thousand others, becomes a roar of discontent."
I'm going to stop posting in this blog until there's a ceasefire in Gaza.
I'm nobody, I have no clout, no money. I live in a small city in South America. I feel like I can't do anything to help.
And maybe I can't, maybe the only thing I can do is to add my voice to the scream of "Free Palestine". Maybe the only thing I can do is to publicly and repeatedly denounce the GENOCIDE we are watching happen every day.
If that is the only thing I can do, then that is the thing I WILL DO. Every post I'll make from now on is gonna be about Palestine and genocide. I'll spend as much time as I can posting post after post after post. I will use #gaza genocide until it stops being true.
You will find me as @donotlookaway
If being part of the roar is my only possible contribution... then let's start with the whispers.

Hello. My name is Minthe.
I’m 18 years old. I love shows like Supernatural, Hazbin Hotel & Helluva Boss, as well as movies such as Lord of the Rings, The Darkest Minds, and Alita: Battle Angel.
I want to become a traditionally published author. I want to have kids one day with my partner. I want to visit Athens, Greece and the Vatican City one day.
I’m also severely low-vision & use a support cane because of leg problems.
But, you wanna know something?
None of those things matter. Why?
Because I’m also aromantic, asexual, non-binary and afab.
I do not expect to live past 19 years old.
Every day, I am scared to leave my home, scared to let anyone in. I am scared to be myself, because just existing as me is enough to get me killed. I am scared because when I leave my home, I am hyper aware of all the people looking at me, judging me for wishing to be true to my heart. I see how the men stare at me, noticing how I look like I’m 13 or 14 years old, see how well-developed my body is.
Because of several laws being passed where I live, I cannot safely be myself, or afab. My rights are being stripped as I sit by and watch, unable to do anything because of disabilities and a loss of voice.
Please, remember me.

i think probably the core issue of lorien legacies, beyond anything to do with individual characters, is the mixed metaphors.
more specifically, about politics.
[longpost after the cut; a lot of talk about racism, xenophobia, fascism--including ecofascism--genocide, and all of the above being poorly handled. also some deeply upsetting anti-indigenous awfulness wrt the w-word.]
the writers try to make the series Heavy-Hitting and Deep and Socially Conscious by addressing real-world political issues like racism, fascism, religious fundamentalism, dictatorship, colonialism, genocide, and so on... and instead of trying to build it into a coherent dynamic with any kind of real statement about any of it, they just blindly grab at every political issue they can find and slap it together into a jumbled mess.
they don't actually understand any of the things they're talking about. and the most disturbing part is that they don't even limit themselves to drawing on bad neoliberal takes, and/or captain-obvious shit like 'genocide bad.' they ALSO draw on the politics of fascists and racists--sometimes unironically, sometimes putting it in the mouths of random protagonists without reason after establishing that it's supposed to be a bad thing, sometimes doing shit that strawmans itself into confirming the Bad Guy Fascism and what have you--and often they mix those metaphors in ways that are anywhere from bizarre to horrific.
('ya so the great replacement theory was completely right actually! the people you're genociding a hundred percent have dedicated their entire life, purpose, and remaining culture to exterminating yours. it doesn't matter if their survivors are down to the single digits, if you fail to kill even a single one of them they WILL successfully wipe you out. they will literally have your last few survivors rounded up and put into prison camps. three cheers for them!' jesus fucking christ.)
(don't get me started on shit like tossing blatant racist caricatures of north korea and its political issues into the mogadorians at some point, because why the fuck not, and then piling on the anti-japanese racism with a dump truck at the end of the first series and throughout the second. internment camps.)
(jesus fucking christ.)
and like. people don't react to this shit the way they realistically would. you cannot tell me that not a single one of the majority-POC cast in the second series would not rip a black hole into nine's irl-racist and scifi-MAGA, white-man-in-a-position-of-authority ass, or the shit that john's white-man-in-a-position-of-authority ass brings about himself under the guise of ~kindness and peace.~
and there's no logic to the kind of shit people will say and do about this stuff, especially in the sequel series. sometimes they'll express, like, basic antifascist/anti-racist/humanitarian/decent-in-general beliefs, and other times the most absolutely wild shit will come out of their mouths which either directly contradicts things they've said before--and might say after--or pulls from other blatant parts of that same horrific ideology. there is no rhyme or reason to most of it. it's just a clown car of racist/fascist/xenophobic nonsequiturs. what the hell.
and when i say nine is irl-racist in reborn i mean he casually calls a native american child the w-word as a '''lighthearted''' punny joke about his legacy. the kid is not even from any tribe whose culture they originate from; they never specify, because of course they couldn't be bothered lol, but miki is from alaska. on top of that, they had the dick ass and balls to have him randomly throw in a Very Special Episode scene where he talks about how his family are the direct-action variety of activists who he got separated from when they blew up an oil pipeline.
and he does not fucking blink at this. he doesn't say anything about it, he doesn't uncomfortably not say anything about it, he just goes on with the friendly conversation about his legacies which nine just called him a w-word for without missing a single beat.
and the ecofascism. good unholy fucking god the ecofascism. probably the most fundamental driving force of the entire first series is that if you don't ~take care of your environment~ your entire race/ethnicity/culture deserve to suffer and die slowly in the results. yes, all of them. it doesn't matter who was responsible. every last one. including the masses we see protesting on mogadore in flashbacks/visions.
also did i mention the Great Fascist Cult Leader who is responsible for the loric's genocide is a race traitor who took charge of wiping out his own? because that is a thing. it's a thing.
like. man i could go on. i could go on. and in other posts i probably will, because WOW is there a lot to unpack here. but it really does all come down to the fact that the writers wanted to sound meaningful and important and socially conscious, because that's what seems to be hip with the youth nowadays, and they don't have anything to say.
it's just gibberish. gibberish that arranges in some very telling ways as to the beliefs of their own that they are putting into the books. but gibberish.
and it pisses me off in a different way to have realized this, but god damn does it make it less tear-my-hair-out distressing than racking my brain trying to figure out what in the goddamn fuck am i looking at here.
(capitalism. capitalism is what i'm looking at here. and also racism, antisemitism, xenophobia, and just plain being fuckin stupid.)
lord.
