Lavender for Royalty; Sage for Wisdom (Book 1) Chapter Twelve
Kyoya Ootori x Reader
Chapter Twelve: Arborvitae for Friendship
Summary: The Host Club collaborates with the Newspaper Club.
Attention: I will be going on a brief hiatus until the 22nd of January due to being abroad. I hope you guys have a great January!
“The cherry blossoms are so beautiful,” sighed (Y/N)’s guest.
“I love this color pink. It’s so sad they’re not around all year,” said another girl.
“Cherry blossoms are symbols of rebirth and new beginnings,” said (Y/N). “The fact they appear only once a year makes that special. It reminds you that every day is a new start.”
The girls sighed dreamily. “So romantic…”
“Haruhi, duck!”
Everyone looked over at Tamaki. He jumped through the air and pulled Haruhi to the side as a ball rocketed past her head—kicked, of course, by the twins.
“You idiots!” said Tamaki. “You almost extinguished the flame that is Haruhi’s life!”
Haruhi groaned from where she lay on the ground. (Y/N) knelt and helped her up.
“My life is already in danger,” she huffed.
“Boss, it’s your fault for not catching it,” said the twins, shrugging. “It’s disgraceful that the Hikaru Genji of Ouran can’t play ball properly.”
“Come again? Then try stopping this!” Tamaki wound up his leg. “Starlight Kick!”
He kicked the ball, and it shot up into the air. Everyone’s jaws dropped open. It was so fast. …And so of course.
“Farewell!” said the twins, waving as the ball disappeared over the trees.
Crash!
Kyoya sighed. (Y/N) winced. Haruhi groaned.
“Oops…” said Tamaki.
l
I’m sorry! Please accept my sincerest apologies!” said Tamaki, bowing to the newspaper club.
The president, third year Akira Komatsuzawa, winced at his words. Chikage Ukyou and Tomochika Sakyou stood on either side of him.
“Oh, it’s okay,” lied Akira. “It was only a window that shattered and my head that received a direct hit.” He had a nasty bump and a giant icepack on his head. “But it was good timing. We were hoping that the Host Club would allow us an interview.”
“I didn’t know there was a newspaper club,” said Haruhi, frowning.
“They only produce this—” Hikaru and Kaoru picked up a paper. “The so-called OU-Spot. It’s a tabloid that exaggerates love affairs between students, class divisions due to family rivalries, and so on. Their fabrications have gotten so wild that no one reads it anymore.”
“It’s just a gossip rag,” said (Y/N), nodding.
“Sure…in our quest for readership, we lost sight of the truth,” said Akira, sighing. “But with the imminent closure of our club, our eyes were opened. Please lend us your aid! For the spring special, we’d like to reveal the truth about your charm in ‘In the Footsteps of the Host Club; 24/7!’ ”
“Really?” Tamaki’s eyes widened. “You mean it? You want to capture how I corner violent criminals and reveal my daily efforts in stopping criminal activities?”
Akira frowned. “What? It has nothing to do with ‘Police 24 Hours.’ ”
“We accept your request!” said Tamaki.
“No, we don’t,” said Kyoya, pulling Tamaki back with a cold smile.
“Kyoya, you don’t know how touching that show is!” whined Tamaki. “Besides, it was my fault he got hurt!”
“I’m sorry, but our information is restricted to customers only,” said Kyoya.
“Don’t worry. You won’t incur any medical costs. The Boss’ll pay for it,” said the twins to Akira.
“Tamaki, we’re not contributing to a newspaper that makes up scandals for it’s own gain,” said (Y/N), hands on their hips.
“We can’t erase our past mistakes after all,” said Akira, “swaying” and nearly collapsing from his wound. “I regret that we must shut down our club…”
“That’s not true!” said Tamaki. “People can always get a second chance! Alright, leave it to me! The Host Club will go all out and help rebuild the Newspaper Club!”
“No way,” said Hikaru and Kaoru.
“We’re not,” said (Y/N).
“What?!” said Tamaki.
“If we went along with all your altruistic endeavors, there’d be no end to it,” said Hikaru, shrugging.
“It’s tiresome. Let’s go,” said Kaoru.
“Tamaki, we’re not discussing this anymore,” said (Y/N).
“Come on, Tamaki. Back to the clubroom,” said Kyoya.
“Don’t you guy have a heart?! They’re shutting down! Their family is breaking up!” Tamaki huffed. “This is a presidential mandate. You can’t refuse!”
“We refuse,” said the twins. (Y/N) and Kyoya still had their arms crossed.
l
“He’s upset,” said Kaoru. “He’s still in costume.”
“It’s just like the way kids give each other the silent treatment,” said Kyoya.
“Pouting,” agreed (Y/N).
“That’s because Tamaki hates to be alone,” said Honey.
“Someone should tell him he looks stupid,” said Hikaru.
“Is it that wrong to help out the Newspaper Club?” said Haruhi, tilting her head.
“Haruhi, that’s odd—you’re taking the boss’s side?” said Hikaru and Kaoru.
“No, but…” Haruhi sighed. “If we leave him alone, I have a feeling he’ll eventually start looking at us like a puppy, and we’ll be forced to give in. It’s strange, but I know it for sure…”
(Y/N) grimaced. “You’re not wrong.”
“I thought you two would’ve gone for it,” said Haruhi, looking at the twins.
“This time it felt tiresome. Boring. Been there, done that,” said the twins.
“Honey, Mori?” said Haruhi.
Mori didn’t reply, and Honey grinned. “I’m eating cake!”
“(Y/N)?” said Haruhi.
“I don’t like people prying into my life,” said (Y/N).
Haruhi sighed.
And then Tamaki looked over with big giant puppy eyes. Everyone winced. He looked back, eyes even bigger than before. Everyone groaned. He looked over a third time, and Kyoya snapped his notebook closed in frustration.
“There will be conditions,” said Kyoya. Tamaki brightened like a dog, and Kyoya went forward. “We will provide a plan for the special feature. And the interview is forbidden. Customers must not be bothered, so the service scene is out.”
(Y/N)’s shoulders dropped. They were still suspicious of the newspaper club, but at least boundaries would protect from prying.
“Got it, everyone?” said Kyoya.
(Y/N) nodded. “Sounds fair.”
“If Kyoya says so, we’ll go along,” said the Hitachiins.
“Okay!” said Honey. Mori nodded.
“Right! Let’s start planning now!” Tamaki had already returned to his confident, happy self.
l
“Tamaki Suoh must have established the club to show off his power to the other students,” said Akira as he planned (plotted).
“But the students hardly ever complain,” said Chikage.
“Female students keep their mouths shut. Male students who know Suoh are evasive,” said Tomochika.
“You’ve seen it yourself,” said Akira. “He pretends to be a nice and sweet idiot. Tamaki Suoh…I wager he’s an exceptionally shrewd man. I’m betting he has a dark side!”
“So are we only paying attention to him?” said Chikage.
“No, we need more than that…We need him to have brought in more bad influences to Ouran,” said Akira, narrowing his eyes. “Like the scholarship students. Undoubtedly, he forced the first-year to join. And the second year? They’re suspicious. They’re rapidly climbing the ranks of power…That shouldn’t be possible for a commoner. We’ll find out what’s truly going on with this Host Club, get a great scoop, and show this school the power of the Newspaper Club!”
l
“Greeeenlight, redlight!” Tamaki whirled from the tree, but the Hosts were still and weren’t still approaching. He hadn’t caught them. “Greenlight, redlight! Greenlightredlight!” Each time, the twins were posed differently.
The newspaper club watched in shock. This was…a children’s game. They were expecting something more refined at the very least.
“It’s no wonder you’re surprised,” said Tamaki, smiling at the other club. “This is a traditional game of the common folk. There are many other fun games commoners play without spending a dime.”
“I see…” said Akira doubtfully. “But what has it got to do with our article?”
“Friendliness!” said Tamaki with force. “Friendliness is critical for wiping away the newspaper’s club negative image and gaining back the readers! According to our calculations, it will work. ‘Handsome Hosts Play a Commoner Game!’ An outdoor game will let you capture the image of spring in the background. It’s so elegant—perfect for a front-page article! It will be the perfect event!” Happily, Tamaki returned to the game and promptly “spotted Kyoya moving.”
“You’re Fujioka, right?” Akira walked towards Haruhi, who looked at him in surprise. “Why did you join the club?”
“On account of my own carelessness,” said Haruhi.
“Oh?” Akira leaned forward in interest.
“Haruhi, focus on the game,” said (Y/N), moving while Tamaki wasn’t looking and pushing Haruhi away from Akira. They smiled “politely” at Akira. “Apologies, no interviews, remember?”
“We need some background for the piece,” said Akira, gritting his teeth. “For instance, why did you join the club?”
“It sounded interesting,” said (Y/N), barely paying attention to him.
“Yes, but it’s helped your status, hasn’t it? As a commoner, being relationships with the powerful is important. Is that what you get out of this?” Akira leaned in. “Gold-digging for connections?”
(Y/N) narrowed their eyes ever-so-slightly. At Tamaki’s side, “out” of the game, Kyoya raised a brow as he saw Akira speaking to them. He looked at the twins and nodded. It was time for their plan to be put into action.
“Hide and seek time!” said the twins, jumping between Akira and (Y/N).
“We didn’t finish the game!” said Tamaki.
“We’re bored, Haruhi, hide with us,” said Hikaru and Kaoru, grabbing Haruhi’s arms.
“Hey!” Tamaki ran to them, grabbed Haruhi’s hand, and pulled her away. “Hide with me!”
“I’ll count!” said Honey cheerfully, and, while the rest of the hosts pretended to hide, the newspaper club stormed away. Little did they know where the club had gone to hide.
l
“This is ridiculous!” said Akira as he stormed through the halls of Ouran Academy. “We can’t participate in this farce! Let’s go back to our clubroom and finish the article!”
“But, President,” said Chikage. “Writing a gossip column on Suoh without proof—”
“Even if we don’t have proof now, all we have to do is write an article that forces his hand,” snapped Akira. “I went out of my way to get that ball and fake an injury. What a waste! Anyway, let’s take him and all his pesky hosts down tomorrow with a front-page article—” His eyes widened as he opened the door of his clubroom.
“So. It’s just as we thought.” The Hitachiin twins, sitting on his desk, smirked.
“It was so obvious,” said Kaoru.
“Boss was the only one who didn’t notice. He’s pretty dense when it comes to himself,” said Hikaru.
“Let me tell you this,” said Kaoru. “If you do anything to the boss or anyone else in this club, you won’t get off free. Not just the Hitachiins, but every family of our club will become your enemy. Are you prepared for that?”
“As I thought, you’re using your family powers!” said Akira. “And Suoh ordered you to do it!”
“Wrong. Tamaki would never do that.”
Akira jumped as Honey spoke and whirled. In the doorway stood Kyoya, Honey, Mori, and (Y/N).
“We love Tamaki. That’s why we won’t let anyone bully him,” said Honey, smiling. Mori nodded.
“Even though he’s an idiot,” said the twins, though they were agreeing.
“We all have our own family names, too, if we wished to go that route,” said Kyoya. He looked at Akira coldly. “Not that we would need to. We’re respectable, unlike some.”
“Not all of you have family names!” said Akira, glaring. “Your scholarship students, they’re there for a reason! Either Suoh forced them into it or they’re going to use his name—”
“Haruhi and I are making our own way in the world,” said (Y/N) sharply. “Tamaki is our friend.”
“Gold digging commoner—”
“I’d suggest you stop speaking,” said Kyoya. He pressed on a hidden button on the first aid kit he had so graciously delivered to Akira. The president of the newspaper club paled as Kyoya retrieved a disk from within the case. “Otherwise, who knows what we may do with this disc that has proof of your plot and precisely what slander you were planning on spreading about Tamaki, (Y/N), and Haruhi?”
Akira, Chikage, and Tomochika let out strangled cries. They had lost.
l
“I’m glad they won’t be bothering us again,” said (Y/N), sighing.
“We humored Tamaki, and we handled an issue.” Kyoya sighed. “As long as he doesn’t drag us into helping another disreputable club, we should be fine.”
“It is Tamaki we’re talking about,” said (Y/N), smiling.
“Perhaps.” Kyoya smirked. “But Komatsuzawa was right about one thing—we do have power to throw around if necessary.”
“You guys, maybe,” said (Y/N).
“I—We wouldn’t let your reputation be harmed,” said Kyoya. “You haven’t done anything.”
(Y/N) paused, and Kyoya looked at them.
“I haven’t. But…my family.” (Y/N) grimaced. “My reputation can be harmed by association.” Kyoya was silent as he waited for them to speak again. “My aunt and uncle, they’re kind. They’re good people. You’ve met them. But they’re fostering me for a reason. My parents—” they sighed “—they had substance issues. They were in jail for most of my childhood. I have no idea where they are now. But my aunt and uncle raised me.” (Y/N) looked at Kyoya. “I’m not ashamed of them. But I know that people will look down on me if they find out, and I am trying to make a name for myself.”
Kyoya nodded. He already knew all of that—he ran serious background checks—but that didn’t change the way he looked at (Y/N). They were still the person he had grown to truly care for, the one he had feelings for. (Y/N) was intelligent, ambitious, tenacious, and a genuinely good person on. Whoever their parents were, whatever they’d done, it had nothing to do with (Y/N).
“I understand,” said Kyoya simply. “You are more than the reputation of your family.” He understood the desire to show your own worth independent of one’s family—particularly of one’s brothers, in his case.
“Thank you, Kyoya,” said (Y/N), smiling.
“(Y/N)?”
They glanced at him.
“If someone attempts to use your class or family against you, tell me,” said Kyoya. “I will handle it.”
“I don’t need you to fight my battles for me,” said (Y/N). They knew that if they intended to move up in society and make a name for themself, they would have to get used to condescension from some.
“I am your friend, (Y/N),” said Kyoya. “I wish to help.”
(Y/N) felt their heart pound as he spoke, and the myriad of reasons they liked him—his kindness beneath all his coldness, his watchful eye for danger, his sharp mind, his respect for them—came to their mind.
“Yes. We’re friends,” said (Y/N). This was the first time they’d said it out loud. They smiled. “You and me.”
Kyoya quite liked the sound of that.

WICKED FURRY ART BLEHHHHHHH I was stuck in a really bad art block for a while so I switched things up and drew some furry Rageons instead of normal Rageons haha
Some rambling and loads more art underneath the cut! (Didn’t want to make the post too long on ur feeds)
This was so much fun I highly recommend making fursonas for your ocs if you’re ever in an artblock it is like- freeing. I put the same pics on my insta so don’t mind the double post whoopsies
Some info:
the twins are Emerald Tree Boas, they’re green and gorgeous and have a wicked set of fangs (look it up it’s metal)
Kid Ritz is a White Spotted Jellyfish- look it up on google he literally looks exactly like one when he has his hat on it’s uncanny. Was gonna make him a Blue Bottle Jelly but I just couldn’t get past the similarity of the white spotted so I settled on that (plus they’re totally adorable and squishy) his guts are kinda visible through his semi translucent ‘skin’ 😰😰
Rhinestone is a Purple Sea Urchin 🙂↕️🙂↕️ she means well but might take your eye out when going in for a hug if she doesn’t have her spines tied up- be careful!!
Then I made all the trolls little bugs since they’re so tiny. I thought it would be weird if they were the same/similar sizes to the Rageons since their size difference is such an important factor to their relationships with each other so I have hereby decided that all troll species are different kinds of bugs 😌😌 Brozone are different kinds of beetles (Genji firefly, stag beetle, giraffe weevil, rhino beetle, mint leaf beetle) and Poppy is a rosy maple moth because she’s so cute and pink and fluffy (Viva too)

Little rant about Sukuna’s backstories and some theories lol.
So we all know that Sukuna was cursed and unwanted child. His translation roughly means ‘child who shouldn’t have been born.’ But despite being shunned on in society- especially in an era with specific standards, he still managed to become a king and even had the Shogun shivering his boots ( I think..)
Sukuna’s mother was ill and starving when he and his twin was in the womb- which led to them being malnourished and Sukuna eating his twin brother.
BUT in the Yorozu fight- Sukuna mocks and corrects Yorozu’s haiku. It’s obvious he has a good knowledge in reading and writing to the point where he can enjoy and understand the arts during the Heian Era. The Heian Era was historically the golden age of Japan and was known for literature and poems such as ‘The Tale of Genji’ and etc. This education and art was only available to the upper class of society and the nobles.

It was clear Sukuna and his family were NOT nobles or an aristocratic family. If his mother was- she wouldn’t be starving and ill. It makes it clear that Sukuna learnt this along the way- and he wasn’t born with a silver spoon in his mouth. He definitely grew up in poverty and it made it even worse that he was born disabled and practiced cannibalism. This made him even more shunned upon aside the fact that he was poor- Sukuna must’ve learn this along the way of climbing up the social status.
In the Heian Era, it was actually easier for women (mostly noble women) to climb up the social status ladder- by being married off to a high ranking family was easy. But men on the other hand, were forced to work harder. Sukuna has a great knowledge of Jujutsu- but with such a refined technique and it might be from all the years of experience he had. BUT learning by yourself only takes you so far- I always thought that Sukuna must’ve learnt ( or maybe spied) on other sorcerers and learned how to fight. From a person who came from a poverty stricken background- you obviously need a high education and maybe he didn’t do it all by himself. Maybe that’s where the aspect of him already knowing what ‘true love’ is.
If my theories are correct please hmu 🔥

This is such a wild departure from what I usually post but due to the cyclical nature of my interests, I can't stop thinking about Higekiri and Hizamaru's Kemono performance in the 2020 SOGA musical because like?? LIKE??
Nevermind that I'm just very interested in the twins in general, nevermind that I've always held SOGA up as the gold standard when it comes to outfit design in the myus (which has only very recently started being genuinely surpassed with productions like Hanakage's concert outfits or Goumyu's gorgeous, gorgeous tailoring) but there's also something about the whole presentation of SOGA that gets to me. Like a lot of things concerning the Genji twins, the presentation of the play (staging, choreography, costume design) is based around the Higekiri and Hizamaru being two halves of a greater whole, meaning that they parallel each other throughout the whole two hour jaunt. Kemono is such a perfect microcosm of the mirroring they've been doing for the whole production, including them doing the same choreo at specific times, as-above-so-below imagery with Higekiri on the balcony vs Hizamaru on the center floor
But there's also the way that their crest placements have been mirroring each other's on all of their outfits and now, for this performance, they both wear it on their left breast, right sleeves in their respecting black and white.
Just UGH - Toumyu is generally very impeccable with it's sense of staging and organisation of visual themes but they really knocked it out of the park for SOGA and I just needed to talk about it a little.
#ginger rambles#No because y'all don't understand how much brain space the Touken Ranbu Musical takes up for me#The outfits alone?? The outfits alone?? THE OUTFITS ALONE????#I need to rewatch Hanakage tbh - I just haven't had the time recently#Originally when I came back to tumblr I said I wanted to talk about all of my favourite things in the way I was most comfortable#I've just sorta spoken about greek mythology and nothing else because that's what's keeping me going these days#But Touken Ranbu is also something I'm thinking about frequently and with great love and passion#Higekiri in particular is one of my favourite swords and I could and have spoken about him for pages and pages (and pages)#But then all the swords in Touken Ranbu have enough content to fill entire theses with their histories and themes#Ginger talks ranbu#touken ranbu#toumyu#higekiri#hizamaru#The fact that soga isn't a tag#criminal really

Day 5: Stargazing
~~~~~
Love as Deep as the Stars Above
It was the end of a long mission and a long day. The sun stretched out all of the shadows as it set, adding to the growing darkness. Cassidy had hotwired a rust bucket of a car, and was driving down the road with the windows open. Hanzo admired the view, both outside and inside of the car. Cass had taken off his hat and tossed it in the backseat with their duffels, and the air was swirling his hair around and drying the sweat on his face and at his hairline. The air was even pulling Hanzo’s hair out of its golden ribbon.
“We’ll have to stop at some point,” Cass said, his voice pitched so he could be heard over the wind. “I remember a spot not too far from here from years ago.”
“Thank you, Cassidy,” Hanzo said, the tiredness in his voice thicker than before after the adrenaline from the fight was no longer running through his system. He actually dozed off for about an hour before the car slowing down and stopping at the edge of the road woke him. He looked to his left, seeing Cassidy turning off the car before looking over at Hanzo.
“Sleep well, Han?” Cole asked with what Hanzo continued to think of as his signature crooked smile. He nodded, rubbing a hand over his face to help wake himself up.
“Thank you for letting me sleep, Cole,” he replied. They got out of the car with their duffels, then wiped down the inside of the car to remove any prints or hairs. Hanzo then followed Cole out into the desert. After twenty minutes, they got into an area that had more saguaro and brush. In the near distance was what looked like a smaller, one bedroom house with an outhouse nearby. When they got to it, Hanzo saw that there was an outside fire pit/grilling area close to the porch. He looked around as Cole searched for and found the key, noting that the building was built to last. Yet it looked….abandoned and not worth the effort to rebuild. His estimation of Cole rose in that moment. This was obviously a place Cole had made the effort to make safe for himself and anyone he felt needed the same.
They entered the house, and it was a one room house with a half loft. The side of the house under the loft had a bed halfway between a twin and a full bed, and the loft also held a bed. The other half was a mix of a cast iron stove, sink, a small table and two chairs. A dividing curtain was tied to the wall opposite the door, made from the same sort of crimson cloth as Cole’s serape. It had bits and pieces of what made up Cole all over, including some pictures stuck to the old style fridge. There were a few of Cole as a young man, one or two of him as a teen in his Deadlock clothes, and a few from his Overwatch days.
Cole let him have the outhouse first; it was a full bathroom, though it was more like some of the bathrooms Hanzo knew from Japan. The entire room was the shower, everything waterproofed and done in woods that took Hanzo right back to Japan. He mentioned it to Cole when he got back, dressed in a simple compression t-shirt and looser hakama-style pants.
“Well, Genji mentioned something like that years ago, and I’ve seen a bathroom or two like that in Japan,” Cole replied. “He found me here after Overwatch fell, Zenyatta in tow. Let me tell you, seeing him upgraded was a bit of a shock! But a good one. He helped me build it, and upgrade this place.” He gestured around the house. Hanzo smiled; though it was small, it seemed to hit home with Cole, who smiled back with a blush.
“In case I have not said it before, I am grateful that you were in his life, Cole,” Hanzo said. Cole murmured thanks, then went off to shower himself. Cole then dug out some of the stores, throwing together what he called a “cowboy dinner” of baked beans, rehydrated hash browns and eggs, along with some coffee. He had also sliced some of the dried sausage into the mix. It was different, but good, and Hanzo found himself wolfing it down beside Cole. By the time they were finished and had cleaned up, the fire had died down and the stars had come out.
Cole poured them a final cup of coffee, then they both sat out on the chairs next to the fire. The stars wheeled above them, slow and graceful in their movements. They let the fire die down, and it almost seemed like the stars shone brighter the lower the fire went. Hanzo found himself understanding, after a time, why Cole came out here. It was so big that it filled one, and yet had one feeling alone and small. It was a good place to both find oneself, and lose oneself. Hanzo glanced over at Cole, and was a bit startled to find that Cole was looking at him and not the sky.
“What is it, Cole?” Hanzo said. Cole fidgeted in place before replying.
“Well, I had seen the sky here before, and well…..watching you watch it for the first time caught my attention,” he said. “It almost seemed like your eyes were reflecting the starlight back up at the night sky.” Hanzo smiled at that.
“It likely was my dragons watching as well,” he said. “Sometimes their eyes look out from mine, and they look like little stars when it is dark.”
“Well, it sure is pretty,” Cole said, then shrunk back a little. Hanzo knew immediately that he hadn’t meant to say that and was probably feeling embarrassment.
“Thank you, Cole,” he said quietly, and that had Cole looking at him in surprise.
“You….you ain’t mad?” Hanzo shook his head.
“Why would I be mad, Cole? I would then have to be mad at myself, for thinking of how much beauty is reflected in your eyes,” Hanzo said. Cole’s mouth dropped open, then he closed it, smiling.
“Well, ain’t we a pair,” he said, chuckling. Hanzo stood, stretching, then walked over to Cole. Cole looked up at him, then turned his hand over to face palm up. Hanzo slipped a hand into Cole’s before bending over and kissing him. He heard Cole make a noise of surprise before returning the kiss. Hanzo broke the kiss but stayed close, nudging Cole’s nose with his.
“I’m glad the stars reflected our love, anata,” he said.
“Me too, sug’,” Cole replied. “Shall we go inside?” Hanzo smiled.
“Yes, please.” They walked inside, the fire low enough that they could leave it to burn out safely. Inside, they got ready for bed and plunged the house into darkness before climbing into the lower bed, fitting around each other like perfectly sized puzzle pieces. They just traded kisses, knowing that they didn’t have enough energy for anything else and being okay with it.
For they would have time enough to make love under the stars. They would make sure of that.
It’s Always Been You (Re-write)
Pt 13(technically 14)
….
“Welcome!”
….
It was barely morning, and Y/n was blissfully sleeping, truly rare sight to see, nothing could ruin his sleep—-
A ring tone echos throughout the dark room, abruptly waking Y/n up. He whips his head towards his phone. He didn’t need to check who was calling. He already knew, the oh so familiar ringtone, the sound made him want to throw up. He looked bright at the screen, dread filling every inch of him.
‘Mom’
‘Don’t answer’
‘Don’t answer’
‘Don’t answer’
He took a weak breath before picking up the call, against his own better judgment.
“Hi mom.” His voice wavered.
“No- uh, you didn’t wake me don’t worry about it...”He could barely hear his mom over his own heartbeat.
“Mom, you know I can’t work weekdays-… Yes I know that’s why I’m here, but, you can’t just-…”
“Right… I’m sorry. Wait-No you don’t have too-” The phone shut off as the call abruptly ended. Of course he set his mom off, now he’s going to work damaged control so his mom doesn’t go off the deep end.
An alarm went off. Pulling him out of his thoughts, ‘School’.
Fine. He’ll just deal with it later then, all he needs is to make it through today.
It’ll be fine.
…
The host club’s activities has been scheduled in the school’s courtyard, the Sun was shining, gorgeous hydrangeas littered the grass surrounding the area, and the weather was perfect. It’s a shame Y/n stands off to the side stewing in his neglected feelings, his sliver lining was at least he didn’t have guests to entertain, he’d highly doubt he could keep a level head right now.
Since this morning he hasn’t heard back from his mom. He’s tried calling, but to no avail.
She tended to be very eccentric, it was all or nothing for her. If she got ticked off it would end up being his job to pull his mom back together. He’d gladly walked on eggshells for her if it meant a day where she isn’t utterly miserable, he’s learned early on that of she’s in a bad mood then everyone has to be in a bad mood.
“Oh~ Y/n.” Two twin serpents slivered behind him, stopping his internal monologue.
“What’s with the long face?” Hikaru stands on his right, while Karou stands on his left.
“I think he’s jealous Kyoyas not giving him any attention.” Kaoru teased, poking Y/n’s cheek.
“Not even close.” He swatted Kaoru’s hand,
“It’s been a long morning, I’m not in the mood for whatever you guys are planning on doing.”
“Are you sure, because it’d make sense if you were.” Hikaru grinned.
“You do follow him around like a lost puppy. It’s not hard to put two and two together, I’d even say it’s painfully obvious.” Hikaru wiggled his brows.
“Like I said, I’m not in the mood.” Y/n pushes the two off of him.
“If you say so~ we’ll be playing catch with the boss, so you know where to find us.” They blow a kiss as they walk away. He internally rolled his eyes.
‘This is gonna to be a long day…’
“Y/n! Duck!” Karou runs over to Y/n, pulling him closer to his body, the guests cheered at this ‘romantic’ gesture, ah so it’s pre-planned on the twins part. The ball falls on the ground next to them with a thud,
“You need to be careful where you throw boss!” Karou scolded.
“Are you okay?” Karou pushes back a few strands of hair from Y/n’s face.
“Hmhm.” Y/n looks off to the side, playing coy for the guests. Y/n leans in a bit closer towards Karou, barely speaking above a whisper.
“I’ll give you the pass Karou, but if Hikaru pulls this type of stunt with me today I’ll kill him then myself.” Y/n pulls back, still looking directly at Karou. He gives a quick nod in response, letting go of Y/n.
He grabs the ball off the ground handing it towards Karou.
“How is it my fault?!” Tamaki squawked, waving his arms in the air.
“Who knew he'd be such a bad sport at keamari? So much for him being the Genji of Ouran Academy." Hikaru shrugged, looking blankly towards Y/n and Karou.
“What?!” Tamaki rushes over.
“You want to say that to my face you perverted punks!” He grabs Hikaru and Karou by their collars.
“Yeah what? We’re not afraid to say it to your face.” They spoke at the same time.
“You think so?” Tamaki lets them go, grabbing the ball in Karou’s hands and places the ball on the ground in front of him.
“Starlight kick!” The ball rockets into the air.
“What?!” Karou’s eyes tries to follow the ball,
“So fast!” Hikaru spoke amazed.
“Take care of yourself~ bye!” The twins wave their handkerchiefs, giving the ball a tearful goodbye.
‘SMASH’
Glass shattered quickly followed by a heavy thud.
The host’s slowly turned their heads towards a now guilty looking blonde.
…
The club found itself in the newspaper club, as small club with only three members. “Really, we’re terribly sorry about that.” Tamaki bows. Apparently the Newspaper club’s president got hit directly on his head by Tamaki’s ball, along with shattering the clubs window.
He’s now holding an ice pack to the wound. The other two members were on both sides of him.
"Really, we're terribly sorry about that." Tamaki lowered his head in a bow.
"Don't worry, it's no big deal. Could've happened to anyone, right? Just a ball flying through a window and hitting me upside the head." The president waves a hand dismissively.
"Please, accept our apology." He bows again.
"Well this works out perfectly. I was just thinking about approaching the host club about a cover story. I don't suppose you'd be interested." The president tilts his head.
“I didn’t even know we had a newspaper club.” Haruhi bluntly says.
"It's more gossip brag than newspaper." Hikaru shows Haruhi the newspaper in his hand.
"Yea, like a trashy tabloid. It's filled with stories about scandalous love affairs, family power struggles, and junk like that." Karou holds up the same newspaper.
"It's just a lame gossip brag that specializes in stirring up scandal."
"And everyone knows it's all lies, so nobody reads it anymore."
"You know I guess we have kind of lost sight of the truth, because we've been so worried about drawing in more readers. It's a shame we're just now realizing our error. Now that the paper is at risk.." The president nervously rubs the back of his neck.
Tamaki eyes widened.
"We finally realize what we should have been reporting to the students of Ouran." The three members stand up and bows towards Tamaki. "Help us, please. For our last paper of the semester, we'd like to do an up close special edition, revealing the charms of Ouran's Host Club members. I'm begging you, without your help our club will close."
Tamaki pushes the hair of of his own face,
"Heh, you can count on us!" He bows.
"On behalf of the Host Club I-" Tamaki stops, noticing Kyoya pushing him to the side.
"We'll have to decline." Kyoya gives an apologetic smile.
"But Kyoya, he got hurt because of me! What's the big deal, huh! So they wanna do a story on us, why can't we help them out?" Tamaki argues.
"I'm the boss, me! Got that?"
"Sorry, we have a policy prohibiting us from sharing any personal information with anyone other than our guests. But we'd be more than happy to pay any medical expenses related to your injury." Kyoya talks over him.
“And another thing, what makes you think we’d want to help you spread more rumours and gossip. We’ve got a reputation to uphold and you’d just ruin it.” Kaoru adds. “Besides, you guys cause a lot of trouble for other people. And why’d we wanna get mixed up in that?”
The president sits down in defeat. “I understand. Well, I guess you can’t really erase the sins of the past, can you? People won’t even give you an opportunity to redeem yourself.” He began to sob clutching his head. “My head is killing me!”
“President!” The two members yelled. “I’m okay… don’t worry you two. Oh no I’m getting dizzy again!” The president dramatically face plants onto the desk. “President!” “No wait I’m fine…”
“I guess all we can do at this point is disband with grace..” “No, you don’t have too!” Tamaki yelled, clearly striking a cord within the male.
“Huh?” The three look at the blonde.
“You can always make a fresh start. We’ll help, we will rally the power of our Host Club, we can re-establish the Newspaper club together!”
“Well count us out.” The twins dryly spoke. “You’re way too trusting boss. We can’t just go along with everything you do forever.” They began dragging Haruhi out the room with them. “Yeah I’m not in the mood to get interrogated.” Y/n leaves. “We’re leaving too Tamaki. We’re holding an evaluation meeting… mostly about you.” Kyoya, Mori, and Honey leave.
"Hold it. How can you be so heartless. These men are about to lose their club." Tamaki’s voice shakes.
"Don't you feel sorry for them?" Tears began to stream down his face.
"Their family's breaking up!"
"As your president I demand you help them and that is a direct order!" He points to the host club.
"We're not going to do it!" The twins glared at him.
…
The hosts were back in their club room, Tamaki was in a corner, sadly playing with a red ball.
“Well he’s obviously upset with us.”Hikaru looks over to his brother. “-Yeah, he hasn’t even changed clothes.”
“I hate it when he ignores us when we’re infront of him. He’s such a child.” Kyoya complained.
“Nah, Tama-chan is just a lonely guy, you know?” Honey takes a bite of cake.
“Doesn’t give him the right to throw a tantrum when he doesn’t get his way.” Y/n muttered, the situation felt grossly familiar.
“A club is like a family. Their family is about to be broken up. I feel sorry for them.” Tamaki pouts.
“I hate to give in, but would it really be that bad to help them out with their newspaper.” Haruhi looks at Kyoya. “What?”The twins looked over to Haruhi. “Hey, since when are you taking his side?” Y/n raises a brow.
“Since never, just listen okay?” Haruhi blankly spoke.
“I know any moment now, he’s gonna look over here with those puppy dog eyes he uses when he wants something, and none of us will be able to say no, so he’ll win.”
"Let me guess, you're speaking from experience, aren't you." The twins sighed.
"Besides, maybe I'm wrong, but isn't this the kind of thing you guys usually go for?" Haruhi brows furrowed.
"Well, no. This seems like more trouble than it's worth."
“What about you Honey-senpai?” Haruhi walks over to him.
“Count me out, I have this cake to eat, and Takashi sticks with me, right?"
Mori hums in agreement.
“Y/n?” Haruhi turns her head.
“Absolutely not.” He makes an ‘X’ gesture with his hands.
Tamaki rolls a ball around before looking back at the club.
“Those eyes…” Haruhi muttered.
Tamaki repeats this action, Haruhi now over on his side with a sigh.
Tamaki does it again, this time Hikaru and Karou went over.
And Tamaki does it for a final time, Kyoya finally caves, much to Y/n’s dismay.
“There will be conditions.” Kyoya pushes up his glasses.
"The outline of their article will be submitted by us. Interviews are strictly prohibited, and it is vital that our clients identities be kept confidential." Kyoya looks down at his black notebook.
Tamaki sits up straighter, stars in his eyes.
“Do we agree?” Tamaki eagerly shakes his head.
“Well, if you think it’s cool Kyoya-senpai,”Hikaru shrugs, Karou mimicking the action as well. “Then we are too.” “I’ll do it, since Kyo-Chan says it’s okay!”Honey smiled. “Hm.”
“Are we really doing this?” Y/n groaned, still not convinced.
“Everyone else seems to be agreeably.” Kyoya looks over towards Y/n.
“Fine.” Y/n caves at last.
“Then I’ll let The Newspaper club know about this.” He snaps his black notebook shut. “Y/n. Can you come with me?”Kyoya walks out of the room, with Y/n following after.
“What do you need me for?” Y/n raised a brow.
“Do you still have any left over surveillance equipment?”
“Uh, I think so.” Y/n digged through his pockets, pulled out two small black devices.
“Just a precaution with our new alliance with the Newspaper club.”
“Video or audio?” Y/n held out the devices. “Audio would be appreciated.” Kyoya grabbed the device.
“Why bother going through with Tamaki’s idea, if you dont trust them in the first place. You and I both know this can only go south.” Y/n puts the other device back into his pocket.
“Like I said, it’s just a precaution.” Kyoya he placed the small device hidden in the secret department of the first-aid kit. “We should bring this to the Newspaper club now.”
…
"Of course! If you'll allow us to cover you, we promise to observe your conditions." The president gives a cheery smile.
"Well then, you may start tomorrow." Kyoya gives him a small nod.
“Excellent.”
"So how is that bump on your forehead feeling?" Kyoya analyzed the president.
"Oh that, it's no big deal, I hardly feel it anymore." He responded.
"—I owe a lot to this bump, 'cause without it, we'd never have come together for this article."
‘How lucky.’ Y/n thought to himself.
"That's true, but we're still very sorry it happened." Kyoya slides the bugged first-aid kit on the desk.
"I brought you a little something as an apology of sorts." He opens it, showing off the Ootori branding on the inside.
"This is a first aide kit, made by my family's company."
"Thank you, I appreciate it." He grabs the kit.
“No problem, please excuse us.” Kyoya starts to leave, Y/n following.
"Oh, it just dawned on me, your family runs the Ootori group, right? They manufacture medical equipment, don't they." The two stopped, looking back at him.
"My family mostly deal with hospital management."
"I'm so glad that we'll be working together. My father is a president as well, of the Komatsuzawa publishing firm." He very subtly mentioned.
"Yes, I am well aware of that. So, being president of the newspaper club is your way of preparing to take over the family company?" Kyoya spoke.
"Well yes to an extent, but I have this younger brother. He's a bright young man and my father is very proud of him you see. So now my father has decided to turn future management of the company over to my younger brother." He bites his finger nails.
"And hereby passing over me, the eldest son, first born. However, if I'm able to finish my third year at Ouran Academy as the president of a successful newspaper club, I think he may reconsider my candidacy as his successor. Do you understand? I cannot allow this club to fall apart, no matter what." His eyes drift over to Y/n.
“You’re Y/n L/n right? Your mother runs a handful of highly successful casinos.” He gives a polite smile.
“Yes, that’s correct.” Y/n tensed.
“You probably can’t relate to my struggles, given the fact you’re the oldest and your younger sister wants nothing to do with the family business. The cards were stacked in your favour, huh? Must be nice.” He spoke, a sense of malice leaked through his voice.
Y/n just nodded, unsure on what to say now.
"Please excuse us, we really have to get going.” Kyoya places a hand on Y/n’s shoulder.
‘Oh thank god, it’s over.’
…
Y/n sits down in the field, feeling a bit more put together since this morning, watching the host club play a kids game.
"The daruma doll fell oVER! The daruma doll fell oVER!" Tamaki whips his head back as the hosts freeze in place.
"The daruma doll fell oVER!" He looks back, no one moves.
"The daruma doll fell oVER! The daruma doll fell OVER! The darumarumadollfeh OVER!" He looks back, pointing to the hosts.
"I saw you move Hikaru and Kaoru! I saw you, you moved I saw you I saw you and you!" Tamaki points at Y/n last.
“I’m not even playing?” Y/n plays with the grass.
"What? We didn't move boss!" The twins places their hands on their hips.
"President, what on earth are we witnessing?" Sayko leans over to Ukyo.
"Could it be some kind of new religion?"
"Why're you asking me? How the hell should I know." The president gave an annoyed look.
"You know, I can't blame you for being shocked. I was unfamiliar with it myself, but it's a commoner's game!" Tamaki dramatically poses.
"They have a wide variety, and none of them require spending any money. All you need is a few friends to play with~"
"Mhm and what does this have to do with our coverage of the host club?" The president’s eye twitched.
"You need to learn friendliness! If you want to clear the negative reputation of the newspaper club and attempt to capture the hearts of your readers, you must try to be more down to earth. I could just imagine the headlines now." He points to the three members. "The handsome boys of the host club enjoy commoners' games, with pictures of us frolicing in the scenery of early summer. It would be the perfect facelift for your front page, and it gives you the chance to show that a certain commoner is happier now reliving his childhood here with us!" Tamaki looks over to Haruhi, who in return gives an awkward wave with an equally awkward smile.
"But president.. I don't think I understand what he's saying." Ukyo whispered.
"Are you sure that this guy isn't just a complete idiot?” Sakyo adds.
"Aha I saw that Kyoya, you moved a little bit now get over here!" Tamaki smiled.
"Did you even have your eyes open?"
"Just stop whining and get over here now~" Tamaki grinned.
Y/n smiled to himself, placing the rocks he found to his left.
"Don't let your guard down just yet. This is all part of his strategy." The president whispered.
Haruhi slides away from the group, going over to Y/n.
“Trying to hide from Tamaki, aren’t you?” Y/n teased, holding a small rock in his hand.
“You can say that.” She sits down across from Y/n.
“Why do you have so many rocks?” Haruhi looks over the piles surrounding them. “Because Rocks are cool.” Y/n spoke not looking up at Haruhi. “Look at this one.” Y/n holds up a light rock with dark speckles all around it.
“Hey why do you even collect stuff like this anyways?” Haruhi holds the rock in her hands.
“Probably because I share the same mentality of a crow.” Y/n started rearranging the collection of rocks. “…That makes a lot of sense.” Haruhi places the rock back with the rest.
“You can take one if you want.” Y/n mumbled.
“What?” Haruhi tilts her head in confusion.
“You heard me, take any rock you want.” He points to collection.
“Are you sure?” Haruhi looks at a small greyish pink rock and she picks it up.
“Ooh good choice!” He smiled.
“Ah yes, the commoner in question.” Y/n looked behind him, his shoulders stiffened.
Haruhi gets pulled to the side by the newspaper club.
“Can we ask you a few questions?”
“Why can’t this be over yet…” Haruhi spoke under her breath.
“No he’s clearly busy.” Y/n stood up, dusting off his uniform.
“It’s fine I don’t mind, really..” Haruhi unconvincingly spoke. “Haruhi you don’t have to.” Y/n pushed her out of the way from the newspaper club.
“Just go make sure the others haven’t caused any trouble.”
“Y/n l/n was it?” The president interrupted. “If you’re so against having him interviewed, why don’t we just interview you instead.”
“…sure but there’s nothing of value from talking to me.” Y/n crossed his arms defensively. “I’m sure there’s something interesting we can dig up. Every one has their dark sides, after all.” The president ominously smiled, clicking his pen.
“Let’s just get this over with.” Y/n gave a fake smile.
“So why did you join the host club? You’re clearly not the most charismatic student.” The presidents sidekicks were holding a notepad. “I was personally invited by Kyoya, next question.” Y/n quickly spoke, bugging the president.
“Well then, what about the club members, what do you think about them?”
“They’re good people, and before you ask no they don’t have a mysterious backstory, are we done yet?” He smiled, pushing the president buttons.
“No, we have one last question. And you might find this one interesting.” His tone of voice shifted.
“Okay asked away then.” Y/n felt a shiver run up his spine.
“We did some of our own personal research on each of the club members. And we found something, odd.” Y/n’s body stiffened, and sense of dread filled every inch of him.
“You don’t to seem to live with your parents, at least that’s what it said on your school records. Why is that?” “I don’t see how that’s important.” Y/n gritted his teeth.
“Just answer the question, please.”
“I don’t have to tell you anything.” Y/n’s tone dropped.
“I figured you’d say that, so I took it upon myself to ask someone more cooperative.” The president smiled, causing Y/n’s stomach to drop.
“What did you do?”
“Your mother was such a kind lady, she was so excited to talk about you for our paper.”
‘Fuck.’
“Why don’t you talk to your mother, she’s very worried about you.”
“I do. I did so this morning.” Y/n clenched his jaw.
“Well she told me you rarely told her anything about your personal life!”
“What kind of person would ignore their own flesh and blood. She didn’t even know you were in a host club! We had to tell her ourselves.” He gives a closed eye smile.
“If I remember correctly her exact words were: ‘I couldn’t believe my own daughter was selling herself out.’ Isn’t that interesting.”
“I believe you’re stepping outside your jurisdiction.” Y/n jaw clenched.
He felt sick, he didn’t want his to happen. His head felt like it was spinning.
“Such a shame, turns out the host club does have its disappointments.”
His phone buzzed in his pocket, sending shivers up his spine.
“You should answer that.” The president walked away pleased at his work.
He shakily pulled his phone out of his pocket, and stared at the caller id. His thumb over the green button—
“Y/n~”
He jumped nearly dropping his phone. Then he quickly shoved his phone back into his pocket, declining the call.
“You scared me! Warning next time.” He spoke.
"Next we're playing can-keri!” Hikaru pulls Y/n over to the rest of the group.
“You're it, okay Kyoya?" Tamaki points to him.
"If I must." Kyoya looks down at the can.
"Starlight kick!!" Tamaki kicks the can.
The rest of the hosts bolted, except Kyoya and Y/n.
"Hm, if you honestly think i'm going to fall for the same trick again you've got another thing com- agh!" The can lands flat on the president’s head.
“So, you’re not playing?” Kyoya glances over to him.
“Uh— no, the funny thing is I never agreed to play this game.” Y/n sighed.
“And besides I rather not leave you alone with the Newspaper club.” Y/n gives a strained smile.
"Damn it. I refuse to put up with his shenanigans any longer. You'll pay for this Tamaki Suoh." The president grumbled, walking off.
“Hm.” Kyoya looks at the club leaving and back at Y/n.
“Speaking of which, I’d notice they pulled you off to the side, what was that about?”
“They wanted to interview Haruhi but I decided to ‘take the bullet’ for her.” Y/n gave a weak chuckle.
“Is that why you’re in a bad mood?” Kyoya pushes up his glasses.
“Partly.” Y/n picks at his finger nails. ‘Of course he’d notice.’
“They decide to take it upon themselves to inform my mom of my activities at school.” Y/n looks down at his feet.
“So that means…” Kyoya looks at Y/n, at least Y/n think he does, he’s too busy avoiding any form of eye contact to check.
“Yep. That’ll be a fun conversation later.” Y/n quickly wipes away the tears from his eyes. ‘I’m majorly screwed.’
A veil of silence fell between the two.
“…I think the newspaper club has had their fun.” Kyoya breaks the silence.
“Hm, Finally putting Chekhov’s gun to use?” Y/n looks up at him.
…
"It's too dangerous to write gossip about Suoh. You don't have any evidence sir."
"Who needs evidence? All I have to do is expose him and everyone will see it." He bites his finger nails. "If I set my mind to it, I can imagine any number of articles that would cause a commotion among the idiots at this academy."
"I'm going to expose Tamaki for the twit he is." They open the door to the newspaper club room, they take a step back as their greeting by the host club waiting for them. Y/n sitting on his desk, Hikaru and Karou leaning on the desk too.
"So we were right all along." Karou stares at the Newspaper club.
“What did we expect was gonna happen.” Y/n stares daggers at the president.
“You three!”
"Well, I guess it was pretty obvious." Hikaru looks over to his brother.
"The boss is the only one who hasn't caught on yet. He can be really dense when it pertains to anything about himself.”
"I should warn you, if you threaten him, there will be consequences." Hikaru spoke, an evil aura surrounded him.
"Are you ready to have the Hitachiin's and every other club members' family as your enemy?"
"I knew it, you're nothing but his lackeys! Tamaki's holding his parents' power over all of you!"
“And for what? Because I told you the truth.” He stares at Y/n.
"That's not true. We don't hang out with Tama-Chan because of his parents," Honey spoke on Mori’s shoulders.
"We love him. We all like being around him, and that's why we choose to be here."
“Well?” Hikaru spoke.
“What will you do now?”
"Please leave Tama-Chan alone okay?" Honey pouts.
"Grr, I'll get you all. It's not just about him anymore. I'll write an article that'll ruin all of you!" The president balls his fists.
Y/n gave a smile as he picked up the first-aid kit.
“You can try, but you see—“ Y/n opens the hidden section in the first-aid kit, revealing a disk.
“There’s a problem, the first-aid kit Kyoya so generously gave you has been recording since we left it to you.” Y/n grinned.
“President.” Ukyo hides behind the man.
“Just give up already.”
The president cries out, stumbling to his knees.
"Let me explain it to you in terms you can understand. You would do well to remember that the Ootori group and the Hitachiin family alone own enough stock to remove your father from his position as president of the Komatsuzawa publishing firm. However, we would never do something like that." Kyoya pushes up his glasses.
"We are not like you. What we strive for is fundamentally different."
…
“I found you.” Kyoya walks over to Haruhi and Tamaki.
“Where’s the newspaper club?” Tamaki asked.
"They had to cancel. Something came up." The twins looked over to orange and blue roses.
"They said they're going to focus on writing respectable articles."
"So maybe they'll get by without having to shut down." Karou shrugged.
"Oh really? That's good news." Tamaki smiled.
"Let's hurry back to the club room and eat some cake!" Honey smiled on Mori’s shoulders. Behind them were dark blue and pink roses.
"That does sound good," Tamaki stood up.
"Kyoya-Senpai? I was wondering.." Haruhi looked over to Kyoya. Next to him was lavender roses.
“Hm?”
"Is the Suoh family really that big a deal around here?"
"Well the foundation of their business lies in corporate finance, but they do have some extensive real estate as well. You've heard of the Roi Grand Hotel and the Outo Theater. They also have a hand in other things, like school management for example." Kyoya answered.
"I didn't know that, which school?" Haruhi stopped in her tracks.
“Why, Ouran Academy.”
"You've been here for how long? You should at least know what the chairman of the school board's name is, Haruhi.” Y/n chuckled, pulling out a yellow rose.
“You're able to attend school here because of the financial aid you received from Tamaki's family. You should be grateful to them." Kyoya adds.
“Haruhi~” Tamaki coo’s. Surrounded by red and white roses.
"Hurry it up or we're going to leave you."
"I would hate for you to end up lost again."
Haruhi groans as she catches up with the group.
‘It’s been a long day, I can deal with my mom in a later chapter…’ Y/n thinks to himself.
I'm just going to say it-
No one AND I MEAN NO ONE-
Can tell me that Pharah, Angela and Genji are not way too invested in Cassidy's love life. All three of them are the types to either freak out when Cass starts dating someone, or try and set him up with people.
And I will not be told otherwise-
Some of my Personal Hanzo Headcanons:
warning: lots of text.
Hanzo is 5'6"ft, or 168cm tall. He used to be taller than Genji (who was 5'5"ft/165cm tall), but after Genji's reconstruction into his cyborg body, Genji now stands taller at 5'8"ft/173cm. Hanzo does not like the fact that his little brother now stands above him.
His favourite dessert-snack is taiyaki! They are crispy pastries made of waffle batter, filled with different fillings like custard, chocolate, beancurd, or savoury things - all in the shape of a fish.
Hanzo's favourite flavour is the classic sweet red bean curd, or azuki filling. He does not like the custard ones.
Relating to above; Hanzo has a pretty strong sweet tooth, but was never really afforded the luxury of indulging it - be it from following the clan's busy schedules and training regimens in his youth, to only eating the cheapest and most filling foods to survive during his time after leaving the clan, or just being too anxious to pick up a dessert in front of the Overwatch members.
(He's also lactose intolerant but does not care that he is lactose intolerant. He will eat ice cream and cheese, and he will regret it in 2-4 hours.)
His favourite colour is gold, but if told that "that's not really a colour", he'll say blue.
The twin dragons he carries are not named by him. He just calls them either "my dragons" or "that one and the other one". I'll write a post explaining how I imagine them to work separately. The members of Overwatch and Genji tried to give them names but none of them stuck and Hanzo never uses them anyway.
He is gay (as in HOMOSEXUAL) but he doesn't flirt with anyone or seem to understand when people are flirting with him. Everyone around him cannot get a good read on who he's into: Genji thinks he's straight, some other members suspect he's AceAro, Cassidy gets mixed vibes from him, and Bap is utterly lost. (The reason? In the darker section under the -----'s.)
Hanzo is extremely introverted and gets tense in social situations. He's not shy, per se, but he will try and avoid casual conversations and will sprint walk briskly out of the room if too many people are there. He enjoys silence and finds just being together with the people he likes, in quiet, is how he relaxes.
Some darker stuff below! No in-depth gory details, but they pertain to bodily injuries, mental illness, homophobia, and forced marriage.
-
-
-
----------
Hanzo has prosthetic legs. He did not leave during his battle with Genji without any injuries - as Genji lay on the floor of the dojo, weak and desperate to protect himself, Genji slashed at Hanzo's legs and feet, doing enough damage to have the elders of the clan to remove them and replace them with a set of prosthetics. Although the elders did save his life, Hanzo knows that his legs only made him more of a weapon and a soldier than the person he was before. They hurt to put on and take off (giving a painful pins-and-needles sensation along with prolonged severe cramping) and often become chafed and inflamed.
Hanzo was branded with the Shimada Clan's seal on his right shoulder (the one that is always covered up). It was done as a reminder that he was and is a part of the Shimadas and that he is essentially owned by them. Hanzo despises it and never shows it to anyone - he's not even sure if Genji knows what the clan did to him and will panic if anyone were to see it. You can see what this looks like in Hanzo's Cyberninja skin:
He writes poetry and does sketches in his small personal notebook and has done so his entire life, but dreads having someone discover them, even if they are beautiful. Hanzo was able to keep it completely hidden from his clan, who would have discovered his shifting thoughts on loyalty and leaving otherwise. Genji once found him tucking it away and jumped to read it, leading to a hiss-whispered fight in Hanzo's room to take it back. He didn't know that all that Genji had glimpsed was a drawing of the town gate.
Hanzo has anxiety (social and general), severe chronic depression, C-PTSD and PTSD, insomnia, and experiences frequent dissociation. I will go more in-depth about these in a separate post, but know that he thinks he deserves this and does not want to tell anyone about it.
He struggles with alcoholism and is prone to running away and drinking when he can't emotionally handle things, especially in regards to his brother.
He does not celebrate his birthday and hasn't in decades. Genji's birthday, which is 6 days earlier, overshadowed Hanzo's. Hanzo was not expected to indulge in "frivous" things such as birthday celebrations and his lack of friends in and out of the clan. His birthday is also a source of self-loathing and regret for being born and growing into the monster he perceives himself to be. No one knows his birth date, not even Genji, who had long forgotten his older brother's date after years of extensive parties and week-long excursions with friends, hook-ups, and drugs.
Hanzo struggles with pretty bad internalized homophobia for himself. He's fine with everyone else being LGBTQ+ and is a supporter of gay rights, but he can't come to terms with himself being gay. Since being expected, since childhood, to become the heir of the Shimadas and continue their bloodline as the eldest son, Hanzo was often paired up with girls and women to try and set up a marriage. Hanzo left the clan a few months away from a wedding they had made for him and a woman he hardly knew. To him? His purpose is to breed. He is not allowed to follow what he wants. He cannot love a man. His unacceptance of his own sexuality leads to him ignoring flirtation from others and never drawing attention to who he likes.
Even though he is no longer under the control of the clan, their ideals and teachings continue to stick to him and trap him in the same thought patterns they constructed decades ago.
Gushing about animol crossing lil guys (gn) token. Expires never.
Hello Will I kinda really love you for this, you sweet sweet blue boy you 🥺💙
Say hello to the Hope World family 🌈
Deets and Pics bellow (very long):
Coco and Lily
My two favourites! Will get along with literally everyone 🥹
Coco is forever my number one spookie cookie bunny, but Lily is a close second - the sweetest froggy you'll ever meet!!! They are both incredibly sweet, and in my island lore they are besties 🥺🐰🐸
Their houses are next to one other, and often share books, baking tips, and whatever knitting project their working on! They hang out with Zucker a lot 🐙
Elvis
My cranky old man 🥹 Out of all of them, he's the least popular in the fandom 😔
Has been with me the longest - was my very first campsite villager, and has since settled well! He may be old, but likes to learn new slang from the youngins. Has the coolest study/library ever.
Zucker
It him!! My precious takoyaki baby boy!!!
He always has a silly outfit on - the pineapple hat was a MUST. Loves to snack, play games, and hang by the beach. A silly cutie patootie 🥹🐙
Marshall
Look at him!!! He so small and sassy 🥺
Marshall is the fashionista / coffee snob of our island. Literally lives off caffeine and compliments. Likes to visit Elvis and be Fancy™ for a little bit hehe. Great friends with Francine. Smol and Angy hehehe 🐿️
Bob and Chrissy
MARRIED. They are MARRIED and IN LOVE - 3 year anniversary coming up soon!!! 💜🩷
Bob is the coolest (and only) cat in the whole island. Chrissy was totally smitten with him hehe. He's also a silly boy who is a bit of a gamer - has a super cool set up. A literal textbook himbo 🤭
Chrissy is Francine's twin. They were popstars in their youth (listen to K. K. Bubblegum), and currently she's the only one still in the entertainment businesses. Always dresses fancy - pink and glittery and so so cute 💖. Sings all the time, also the most extroverted of the bunch.
Francine and Fuchsia
The Cool Girlfriends™ - kinda intimidating at first, but very friendly 💙💖
Francine is Chrissie's twin. Unlike her super chirpy sister, Francine is a bit more elegant and reserved. She now works as a designer - the spotlight was made for her Chrissy, not her. Best friend's with Marshall - The Fashion Duo ever (WILL judge your fashion choices) 💅 ✨
Fuchsia is our resident punk barbie deer. Dresses mostly in black and band merch - we talk a lot about bands and stuff. Very sensible and kind, always there for you if you need to vent. A true punk princess, Avril Lavigne wishes she was her 🖤
Genji
Our newest resident! Moved in last week after Pietro left. He's still getting to know everyone, but so far is getting along super well with Bob - he and Zucker often have game nights and Genji loves it (Elvis is too old to stay up so late, and Marshall prefers to go drink with the girlies).
Genji is a total gym rat but not obnoxious at all - he's just super active. He and Fuchsia will work out together sometimes 🏋️
-> Old family photo from when Pietro (clown sheep) was still in Hope World - taken during my birthday sleepover. You can see Fuchsia in her Sleep Token shirt 🥹
Bonus family photo but Silly™
If you read this far, have a little snack -> cherry pie, a Hope World specialty! 🍒🥧
#animal crossing rant over#i have so much Lore and Stories with them hehehe#Francine dated K K Slider for a while there but it was soon over. he's too much of a diva#also he and Label have a super toxic on and off relationship and she did NOT want to get in between that#i actually started to write a acnh fanfic but never posted it. maybe it's time i finish it#also Lily and Marshall are super good friends. and Coco and Elvis too#so sometimes the four of them hang out. Coco and Elvis will gab on about books while Lily and Marshall like to chat about whatever#she once made him a knitted scarf and beanie set and it's his favourite ever 🥺#(i realise i give them a lot of stories and stuff but. it makes the game much more interesting to me)#thank you for the token hehehe. smooching your forehead muwah muwah muwah#darya answers#animal crossing#acnh
Physical (You’re So): A Genji/Ramattra fan fiction
Summary: After a heated argument in the living room, Ramattra and Genji learn what they need to settle their differences once and for all
Rating: Explicit Content
WC: 8,000+, first 2198 words included in post, rest is available on ao3
A/N: Hello! Due to this being my first OW fic, it is a little out of character. However, I hope you still find joy in reading :]
Zenyatta’s house was nothing special to Genji. Maybe it was because he had spent the majority of his time there. The house was on a small piece of private land, not something that Zenyatta was very fond of, but was given as a sort of gift, though Zenyatta prefers not to disclose from whom. Genji’s best guest was the monastery, but he wasn’t even sure of that. The house itself was quite small, only having room for around three people, maybe four if someone was willing to share their room or sleep on the couch. The interior walls of the home were painted a golden yellow, though a few of the corners and other parts of the walls were chipped, revealing the white rock underneath them. Multiple decorations hung on almost every wall of the home: abstract paintings, maps, records, children’s drawings gifted to Zenyatta, anything that could go on the wall.
Of course, this was just the standard living area. Zenyatta’s room itself was quite barren, containing nothing more than a nice twin bed and a dresser that held nothing but bolts, screws, and anything else he’d need to tune himself up. Next to the bed sat a worn-down armchair with a blanket draped across it. The room wasn’t entirely soulless as there were a few pictures of those Zenyatta would consider his closest friends hanging above his bed and sitting on his dresser. Above the door to his room hung a picture of Mondatta in an oval frame. A necklace of large beads framed the picture.
Genji’s room had a little more character to it. Unlike the rest of the house, it was painted in soft, apple green. He had a twin bed just like his Master, which was decorated with a specialized quilt that was gifted to him from Zenyatta. He had a dresser half filled with clothes, the other half filled with tools and other repair needs. On the wall opposite his bed was a sofa, decorated in pillows once again provided by Zenyatta. Between the bed and couch was a rug. He decorated his walls with posters and prints, most of them relating to some kind of media that he enjoyed, from games to movies to TV shows. Of course, just like Zenyatta, pictures of his friends hung along the walls as well.
There was a third bedroom in the house, but it was never one that Genji had taken an interest in. The room belonged to Ramattra, Zenyatta’s long-time compatriot and someone who Genji was not fond of. Ramattra was not as sociable and open as Zenyatta, especially when it came to Genji. He was quiet, closed off, and cold. Though Zenyatta had told Ramattra that living with him meant living with Genji as well, it was almost as if Ramattra had tried to brush aside Genji’s entire existence. Hell, he could hardly stand to sit in the same room as Genji. If Zenyatta wasn’t in the room with him, Ramattra would immediately get up and move rooms as soon as Genji entered. Genji was aware that Ramattra wasn’t fond of humans, and to an extent he didn’t care, but still, a little part of him felt confused. Genji wasn’t even fully human, so what was it about him that still made Ramattra dislike him? Was it because Genji was at one point fully human, so Ramattra would always see him as such? Or was it because he took Zenyatta’s attention away from him? Whatever the matter was, Genji wanted to get to the bottom of it. Even if he didn’t care, even if it didn’t affect him all that much, there was something about Ramattra that needed to be figured out.
June 20th, 2077
Kumpur, Nepal
11:34 pm
The trio were sitting in the living room. Zenyatta was laying down on the couch, an elbow propped on the armrest and a hand holding his chin. On his other hand was a book, some human classic written many years ago. One Genji and especially Ramattra would take no interest in. Genji was sitting on the floor, the plush rug underneath him cushioning his seat. He was watching TV, catching up on a rerun of some Pachimari show, a special episode made for the start of summer. Ramattra was busy tuning up his staff, a screwdriver digging into the orb that sat in its hold. However, it was becoming obvious that his attention was switching between his staff, the show, and Genji. Genji could feel his cold, unfeeling eyes on him, even if they were covered by the snowy white faceplate he wore. Genji ignored him though. Or well, he tried to. Genji wanted to glance at him, just to see if Ramattra’s attention was truly on him, but he wasn’t wearing his visor. Even the slightest glance to the side could catch the Ravager’s attention. He knew Ramattra had already seen him as nosy, proven by the many times he’s been caught eavesdropping on Ramattra and Zenyatta’s conversations. Though Zenyatta had seen it as enduring, all Ramattra would do was let out a disgruntled groan and walk off. Genji was not in the mood to have Ramattra scoff in his face today.
So, Genji locked his eyes on the screen, letting himself get droned into the happy, go-lucky music of the show and the cute, simple animation style. He didn’t even know what the plot was, but he acted like he did. He would do anything, act like he could understand anything if it just meant that he didn’t have to look at Ramattra. Unfortunately, he couldn’t ignore Ramattra. He couldn’t act like he didn’t notice the growing stares landing on his shoulders, the shadowy claws of Ramattra’s gaze wrapping themselves around his neck, trying their best to turn Genji’s head and make him look at Ramattra. He didn’t even know if Ramattra was looking at him, for all he knows Ramattra could have left the room by now. However, that didn’t seem to stop the phantom claws of Ramattra’s hands from trying to pull Genji’s head to the side.
Genji had no choice but to look…
And Ramattra was staring right at him.
“Are you enjoying your show, Genji?” Ramattra asked, his head tilting downward as if he were trying to make eye contact with Genji. Even with such a simple question, it was obvious that the next phrase to escape Ramattra’s synth was going to be judgemental.
“Hmm? I mean, yes. Yes, I am,” Genji nodded, a somewhat stern tone in his voice as he eyed Ramattra down. He wasn’t going to let the Ravager win this.
“It’s a bit of a silly show, don’t you think?” Ramattra asked, turning his attention back to his staff, though it was obvious he wasn’t going to return to working on it anytime soon. He had Genji’s attention, and God was he gonna use it.
“Well, it was the only thing on.”
“How do you know that?”
“Because I looked there was nothing else.”
“Really? Did you look?”
“WHY DO YOU CARE YOU’RE NOT EVEN WATCHING!” Genji hadn’t expected himself to shout, and it was obvious in the way that Ramattra had paused and Zenyatta silently set his book down that neither of them had expected it either.
The three stared at each other, silent yet tense.
“You dare raise your voice at me?” Ramattra asked, his voice quiet yet his tone stern and forceful. He set his staff carefully down on the ground. Zenyatta sat up but remained silent.
“I do not know what you expected me to do. You kept pressing me and I wanted you to stop,” Genji explained. He tried to remain calm, but the tremor in his voice vaguely hinted at the bubbling anger rising in his throat. His face started to feel red hot.
“So, you do that by yelling at me?” Ramattra egged on, leaning forward in his seat.
“I tried to stay calm,” Genji began to lean forward as well.
“Is that why your lip is quivering, little boy?” Ramattra teased. Genji hadn’t even noticed his lip trembling, but hearing it from Ramattra just made him pissed. He planted his hands on the carpet and sprang up. His hands balled into fists at his sides, his whole body shaking as he stared Ramattra down.
“Shut the fuck up! I know what you’re trying to do!” Genji barked, his face red and his temper beyond livid.
“And what on Earth is that?” Ramattra asked, standing up and crossing his arms. He began to walk toward Genji. Zenyatta stood up, taking a small step forward, just one more step away from being between the two.
“Ramattra…,” Zenyatta started, but Ramattra and Genji ignored him. They were too focused on each other.
“Don’t play stupid. You’re trying to make me look bad in front of Zenyatta. You wanted to make me angry, just to toy with me. If you want me out of the house just say it,” Genji snarled, taking another step closer to Ramattra.
“Tell me why the hell I’d care to do that?” Ramattra asked, his synth reaching lower, more gravelly tones. The display on his forehead flared a bright red and Genji was sure that if he was any closer, he’d be able to feel Ramattra’s cooling system pushing hot steam out of Ramattra’s body.
“I don’t know! It’s probably just because you can’t fucking deal with anyone else having his attention you big fucking Ravager baby-!” Before Genji could get any more words out of his mouth, a large, firm hand gripped the sides of Genji’s face, squeezing his mouth shut. He let out a harsh groan as he felt Ramattra’s hand squeeze his face.
“SHUT YOUR MOUTH, FILTHY HUMAN!”
“Experience tranquility!” Genji had never heard the monk become so panicked, even though his voice still had the same quiet, soothing tone. Before he could even blink, Zenyatta was between the two of them. Within another blink, Zenyatta had entered transcendence. The force of it shoved the two back. Ramattra stumbled back while Genji nearly fell back on the floor. Instead, he simply just hit the floor with his knees. He felt a wave of calmness wash over him, though his current hatred for Ramattra was still trying to boil through to his skin.
“Look at what you’ve brought into this house, brother! Look at the filthy and vile creature you’ve managed to drag in! I expected better from you, Zenyatta,” Ramattra growled, a large hand now pointing an accusatory finger at Genji. Zenyatta exited his transcendence. His arms extended outward, trying to create more space between the two of them.
“The only filthy fucking thing he dragged in was you,” Genji protested, pointing a finger back at Ramattra.
“Nothing I have dragged into this home is filthy. I brought the two of you here for a reason. Do not let me kick you out for a reason. Now, go to your rooms and do not speak to each other until the morning,” Zenyatta snapped. Genji had never heard the monk become so fed up, especially not when it had come to him. Zenyatta was usually calm, patient, and tranquil, seldom letting anyone or anything pound on his nerves. He knew it was the same with Ramattra, having listened in on many of their heated, late-night conversations, much to the two’s chagrin. Maybe it was just the weeks’ worth of silent conflict finally bubbling to the surface, but that didn’t stop shame from rolling over Genji. Even if it wasn’t obvious, Genji knew Ramattra felt shame as well.
Slowly, Zenyatta set down his arms, settling them to his sides, and once again the three were still and looking at each other. The moment felt like it was never going to end. The air fell stale and the room went silent. Genji just remembered the TV was playing, too drawn into the argument to even focus on it. It took what felt like another eternity for Ramattra to look at the two, scoff, and stomp to his room. The door slammed behind him.
“Are you alright?” Zenyatta held out a hand, offering to help Genji off of the ground. Genji grabbed his hand, slowly bringing himself up. Zenyatta held out another hand, helping to steady Genji as he settled himself.
“I’m fine, I just don’t understand what his problem is with me,” Genji muttered. He stood up fully, allowing Zenyatta to take his hands off him. Zenyatta reached towards the coffee table in the middle of the room, grabbed the remote off it, and shut the TV off. He then held Genji’s hands in his own hands.
“Do not focus on him, my student. He has been through a lot, he doesn’t yet understand the effect of his words. He is, as humans call it, of little empathy. Please, just go to your room and we will conclude this in the morning,” Zenyatta explained, rubbing over the smoothness of Genji’s knuckles with his thumbs. Even though his face plate was static, Genji could tell his eyes were trying to plead with him.
Genji could only nod, “Yes, sensei. Goodnight, sensei.”
“Goodnight, my Genji.”
