Seeing Mac dressing up as Freddy Mercury while singing this song would be funny, but it reflects on his journey from an underdog to the champ.

This song really kept me upbeat and I happen to like K-pop so, Mika would keep on dancing when listening to this song while wearing some Deco outfit or a colorful Lolita dress.

Glass Joe- La vie en rose by Edith Piaf

This song is actually one of my Tita's (aunt) favorites when she was still in high school and knowing Joe, he would simply try to mix his dance moves of pop ballad and contemporary dance. I would love to see him in a very slick tuxedo or something fancy but flexible.

Von Kaiser- Part of Me by Katy Perry

Ok, I know what you are thinking since this song has already been taken but what if the coach was male, and since the original music video of this song was taken place in the military so why not? Von Kaiser would fit into this very well, he would have the same dance moves as the original Part of Me coach but a little different.

Disco Kid- Let's Groove by Earth, Wind, Fire

I have heard of this song and yes, I have seen the 2016 Just Dance version of this but what if it was a solo coach instead? Enter Disco Kid, he would be in a really funky 70s disco suit because, of course, he's all about disco! I would have picked other songs from the funky 70s but this one really sticks to me.

King Hippo- Hawaiian Roller Coaster Ride from Disney's Lilo and Stitch

This song brings back childhood memories when I first saw Lilo and Stitch and hearing this song feels very relaxing and upbeat. Hippo would really like to dance to this song, making cute hula moves while also adding a touch of that relaxing upbeat rhythm.

Piston Hondo- Pokemon Theme Song

Now this song is really cool since it can be heard in both English and Japanese. Hondo would do well in this song while also dressing up as Ash Ketchum and being accompanied by Pikachu in the dance.

Bear Hugger- Timber by Pitbull (ft. Ke$ha)

Another song is taken, yes I know but what if this one is a trio and it would be in this awesome claymation style. Seeing Bear Hugger dancing while being accompanied by Mr. Bear and his squirrel friend would be so cute and cool.

Great Tiger- Friend Like Me from Disney's Aladdin

We already had Prince Ali from JD 2014 and and A Whole New World from JD 2024 so why not this song? It would be so cool to see Great Tiger dressing up as the live-action Genie from the live-action movie Aladdin, his clones would also add flare to the dance

Don Flamenco- Livin La Vida Loca by Ricky Martin

Picture this, a song from JD 4 would be perfect for Don but make it duet and extreme with him and Carmen in an amazing flamenco/tango style dance. There would also be a 2nd version of this but it's normal and he is trying to seduce Mika in this.

Aran Ryan- The Spark Irish by Kabin Crew and Lisdoonvarna Crew

Yes, I have seen the TikToks on this song and it would be a perfect summer song for Aran. He would go wild for this song while doing his famous Irish jig in this and yes, this one would also have an extreme version of it.

Soda Popinski- Moscow Moscow by Dschinghis Khan and Jay Khan

I only have heard of this song from a video for a MMD Hetalia meme but this would be such a funny song to have. I know that Rasputin is the more popular song on JD but having another Russian song like this would be so cool and hilarious at the same time.

Bald Bull- Centuries by Fall Out Boy

JD 2023 released one Fall Out Boy song but what if there is another one, enter Centuries. This one would be themed after Ancient Greece with Bald Bull as coach. He would have this gladiator minotaur costume and sick dance moves.

Super Macho Man- Footloose by Kenny Loggins

One of the most iconic from both the past and today. SMM would be so cool to see in the 50s setting with a crowd cheering for him.

Mr. Sandman- Sweet Dreams (Are Made of This) by Eurythmics

The song for Night Swan's origins in JD 2022 is perfect for Mr. Sandman. This one would be the male version and it would be in a dream-like setting with flashing lights, sleeping sheep, and bright stars. And it would be so cool for Sandman to wear an outfit to match the setting.

I asked the genie to make her love me and it paused. It contemplated something.

"For clarification do you want the core of who she is to change because there are other people in the world I could introduce you to." It's eyebrows furrowed looking at me intently

"Why would I want to change the core of who she is? I like her because of who she is, I just want her to also love me."

"I see." The genie rubbed its chin, looking at me and contemplating.

"This can't be that difficult. I want her to like me." I tapped my chest. "Me, right here, this standing in front of you."

"Ah" the genie smiled with relief, "I can work with that."

And then there I was standing in a kitchen I didn't recognize, I was wearing I don't know what, my body felt different, tired. The Genie was sitting on the counter, legs crossed, eyeing me, smiling.

I looked around a bit more. "How is being in some random person's kitchen going to make her love me."

They chuckled, "Oh no, you don't understand. She could never love someone that would want to take her or any other humans autonomy away. I had to go back very far to change your belief systems so she could love" he circled his hand a few times gesturing at me "that." It looked at its nails and back at me. "Contrary to popular belief we do not make everyone shorter so you'll be the tallest or everyone worse at math so you're the best. That's punishing people you will never know exist and even those you do, they didn't deserve it. What fun is that."

"I'm not following." I looked around a bit more. I've definitely never been here.

"I changed you into a person who she could love. Here." It handed me a small mirror.

"You made me, Older!?!" This was ridiculous.

It laughed. "No no, time did that." It held up its genie lamp. "The you she loved. And I am using past tense because he is now dead. Well you just now refound the lamp and not believing it was real, wished to remember something you forgot. And so now you do."

"Wait, so she loves me, but I don't remember?"

"Oh yes, like I said, I had to go back far to change that belief system which led you to make the request in the first place. Ironically, to a person who would never contemplate such a wish. Delicious."

It hopped off the counter and made its way to the front door.

"Well, I want to remember the past however many years, but as me." I shouted after it.

It had its hands on the door knob but turned around to look straight at me with an unsettling grin. "That will not be happening as you have used all your wishes." It paused. "You're right, she is quite wonderful. I can see why you wanted her affection. I felt bad because I knew you'd mess this up somehow and I'm not really into hurting the innocent. There is a close friend in her life who will make a wonderful romantic partner, something they never even considered while you 2.0 was around."

One thing is certain companies that specifically aim for their groups to be mainstream kpop and last in the mainstream of the kpop market must have major success in Korea. Dreamcatcher is an anomaly in many ways. They're still not very popular in Korea, unfortunately. They wouldn't even get music show wins without the voting efforts of international fans. They're not a huge global success, either on the scale of like Ateez and some others. But they've definitely established a stronghold abroad that has allowed them to stabilize and their longevity looks promising.

I just honed in on Dreamcatcher because a lot of people mention that they've had a pretty usual career, and it seems accurate looking at this ongoing conversation. It's really interesting.

I personally don't know about Dreamcatcher in detail, I just always see people talking about how they are popular abroad, not at home. Loona, Kard are other groups that come to mind.

There are plenty of groups who become popular among i-fans first and only after they had gained footing and traction they are noticed by kfans, climb to popularity back home. If I'm not mistaken, (G)I-dle went this route. They also toured abroad while waiting for the scandal around the member who left to calm down.

Look at BTS' YT views by country. SK is nowhere near the top. And the history of album sales by country.

Any figures about Korean support are also not very clean as i-fans buy albums from SK to track on Circle chart, buy Genie IDs, vote, fly in for concerts, etc.

But anyway. I agree about the mainstream. Especially when it comes to solo-careers as SK offers the side-gigs that bring face recognition and brand deals. However, the topic originally was about the longevity. Yes, Koreans give massive financial and promotianal support when the star is in vogue, but tend to quickly forget artists as well (not the diehard core fans, the on-off ones). To preserve their popularity and relevance singers must constantly be on tv, in shows (like Key, Taeyeon). TVXQ was enormous back in the day. Yet Changmin can't establish his solo career in SK.

I’m sure you all know what The Incredibles is at this point. It’s one of Pixar’s most popular and well-loved movies and is often regarded as one of there best. Putting aside how debatable that is considering Up exists, I saw this movie when it came out. I went to see it in the theatre when I was a child and I enjoyed it quite a bit. But, and you’ve seen the pic so you know where this is going, there was one particular scene that stuck with me. Literally lol. The scene of Mr Incredible getting shot at with the expanding blobs. Often referred to as the Kronos Unveiled scene, it’s one of those scenes from a piece of media from my childhood I never really got why I had such a wired fascination with until I got MUCH older. It’s actually kind of ironic The Incredibles had a scene like that for me considering this wasn’t even the only movie I saw in 2005 as a child that had something like this. Bionicle 3 Web of Shadows which I also saw later that same year had the scene of the Toa Metru all trapped in the Visorak cocoon’s which I also had a wired fascination with that I also didn’t fully understand until I became an adult. But that’s a potential pic for another day!

Anyway, around 2019 and beyond that I started to see some art of this scene with various characters across various media and the first thing I thought was “Oh God yes, I wasn’t the only one who had a fascination with that scene.”  It wasn’t a super common peril scenario to see drawn but I always loved seeing it when I did. It wasn’t until recently however when I stumbled upon this artist on Twitter who does it as there main thing. And considering they opened commissions recently and my love for this scene, and also my self insert sona exists partly as a way of me being able to experience many of the strange fascinations I have, yeah of course I’d put my self insert though this scene! Being shot with this expanding rubber balls, enveloping you inside a little rubbery prison, the squeaking noises they make, god I love this scene! And hey, helps that these kinds of pics have put me in a mood to watch The Incredibles in full again. After all it’s only been 19 years since I last saw this movie… God I feel old… If, you know, 27 can even be considered old at this point.

It occurs to me that some people have a warped view of Shadow the Hedgehog.

There’s like two versions of him. 

There’s the impression people (including some SEGA creators) have of Shadow the Hedgehog, which started somewhere on or after 2005, which I will be referring to as

1. Shadow’s shadow

He’s dark but it’s cringey because he’s trying so hard to be dark, and you get the impression that only 10 year old boys and 14 year old girls think he’s actually dark. He has a gun, just to prove to monkey-brain children used to fun Sonic ring-collecting that he’s bad. He cusses because cussing is edgy. He never does anything good unless it’s to prove he’s a better hero than Sonic. He’s over-the-top cruel or emo because that’s all he represents, and picks fights to defend his own pride like a bad version of Season 1 Zuko.

The problem with this version of the character is that somewhere down the line, even SEGA thought that Shadow’s shadow was all the Shadow the Hedgehog that everyone wanted to see. Or they just forgot that none of the above character traits have anything to do with the original character, at all. And so they started putting him in the new games like that.  But that’s not the real Shadow. That’s just Shadow’s Shadow, a lame guess at who the character is based on his black and red design and snippets of things which people who never played SA2 heard about the character.

The real version of the character, which sparked the original popularity, is

 2. Shadow the Hedgehog

The original Shadow the Hedgehog was popular because he was the new character in a game that brought emotional Lore to the Sonic games. He debuted in Sonic Adventure 2, and he wasn’t even the only new character in that game, which is kind of one of the things that was awesome about him: he wasn’t supposed to be The Cool One™ in the franchise. 

He was supposed to be a one-off character. Think about that: not a character that just hit every out-of-proportion-fanservice trait, not a character that they kept bringing back over and over to entice weary fans. 

He was just a new story element, presenting interesting themes that worked as a great foil for Sonic himself, then dying in an emotionally impactful way, making the SA2 game interesting and memorable for it’s story.

That is what was originally so popular about Shadow. Yes, he was really cool, and he did check all the “Dark Version of Your Beloved Main Character Trope” boxes, but he was ALSO a really well-rounded character that didn’t feel like he was just a hook to get fans interested. He had depth.

In fact, it could be argued that he brought depth of story to the series in a way that hadn’t been done since...well, Knuckles the Echidna. Sonic’s first-ever “rival” (who was not a robot.) 

And Shadow brought depth of story MORE than Knuckles, because Shadow came around in the era of Cutscenes and Dialogue which provided a medium for this little thing called Flashbacks. Yeah, Knuckles’ first, pixel-y appearance brought in story elements like The Master Emerald and visuals that hinted at lore, like a Shrine.

But Shadow? 

Shadow the Hedgehog appeared and was instantly the audience’s window to look through and see things that had never been seen before, which fleshed out Sonic’s whole canon and world. Things like:

The Government (woah, the Sonic world has a President and a unique military organization?)

Eggman’s family (woah, they’re actually going to tell us something about where Eggman came from?)

Chaos Powers (woah, the Chaos Emeralds actually do something besides just turning characters “super?”)

A story structure like this, where a new character also served as a way to examine deeper parts of Sonic Lore, had been used in the game’s predecessor, Sonic Adventure 1. But that new character, Chaos, was just presented as a mindless, silent villain with a blank face who turned out to have feelings right before he disappeared forever. Shadow is not like that at all in his first appearance.

He starts the game acting kind of like a genie who’s been let out of the bottle, offering to grant Eggman wishes. He offers Eggman a mysterious bargain. He seems totally evil and in possession of power over the Chaos Emeralds that allow him to rival Sonic. But during the story, there start to be hints at something underneath it all. 

He keeps flashing back to a scary/sad combo of scenes involving a little girl. He mentions that he’s after revenge. He talks like a Shakespeare character when he villainously monologues, but he also ends most of his levels with “I’m the coolest!” and smugly talks smack with Sonic during their fight scenes. He seems totally focused on his mission one minute, then, any time he encounters Sonic, appears to get completely distracted and eager to compete, like a 18 year-old athlete.

All this contrast between a lofty, broody villain personality with a hidden fun, competitive showboating personality made the audience DESPERATE to know where this Shadow guy came from and what made him tick. It helped that other characters, like the government spy and Eggman himself, were teasing at a mystery in his past, too.

Then when you DO find out the why behind everything Shadow does, there’s been such a buildup that it’s satisfying. 

I mean, it sounds really weird to hear that Shadow the Hedgehog is an artificial creature created by Eggman’s genius grandfather on a space station to bring hope to the Earth below, but was warped by a desire for revenge when the Government tried to kill him and wound up shooting the little girl who was his only friend and sealing him away for 50 years, instead. But it ONLY sounds that weird if you didn’t play the SA2 game and get to know Shadow as he was intended, bit by bit, reveal by reveal.

 Because SA2 Shadow had reasons for being broody and angsty. 

And he wasn’t ALWAYS broody and angsty. In fact, he was a master manipulator! When he was around Eggman, he was confident, smooth, and articulate, like a Shakespearean villain. When he was around Rouge, whom he did not trust, he was silent, firm, and to-the-point. Only by himself was he angsty--and it never lasted long. 

And when he was around Sonic? 

Oh boy. That is my FAVORITE thing about Shadow. Because when he was around Sonic, it’s like I said. He would stop being focused on his revenge-mission and stop being focused on whatever he was doing with Eggman and he would just turn into this competitive, flashy guy. I mean, yes, it would’ve been hard for him to stay focused on the mission because Sonic was actively trying to get in his way--but the thing is

Shadow starts to be his real SELF around Sonic. Even while they’re fighting. Because you get the sense, as the player/audience, that if this big trauma had not happened in Shadow’s past, he would have been Sonic. In personality. Sonic and Shadow are both highly competitive, love thrills, and love a challenge. They are also both heroic. Even while Shadow is a villain, he winds up saving Rouge the Bat from death by explosion, just because it seems like he can’t help himself. And remember, he was created to be a savior of the world anyway.

So combine Heroism with Competitiveness and you have someone who is very close to our fun-loving, cool blue hedgehog protagonist. But then the human race he was sworn to protect destroyed his home, murdered his best friend right in front of him, and locked him away as a dangerous weapon for 50 years. 

Shadow is not what you get if you take Hot Topic and throw it on top of Sonic the Hedgehog. 

Shadow is what you get if you took a bunch of Flickies murdering Tails the Fox right in front of Sonic while Green Hill Zone burned in the background. 

And then, at the very end of Sonic Adventure 2, Shadow realizes that he didn’t promise Maria (his best friend who was murdered) revenge. He promised her that he would protect everyone on Earth. So very much like Ben Solo (RIP) you get a quick snippet of who Shadow the Hedgehog really is when he’s not burdened by all the Baggage. 

In a handful of cutscenes and well-performed in-game dialogue, you hear that his voice is a little lighter. He physically transforms from black to white.

He’s focused on destroying the evil threatening the planet, but he also says kind little things like, “Sonic, you need rest! Let me give it a try!” and “How are you doing, Sonic?” and

AND

in one in-game clip of dialogue, he even says that he thinks SONIC might be the Ultimate Life Form. 

Shadow’s Shadow, the lame ironic tropey interpretation of Shadow, would never say something like that. He’d cuss in a low-voiced rasp and dramatically try to blow the head off of anyone who even joked about it. But the thing is, at this point in the story, you are seeing Shadow as he is: a lab-created being who’s probably only lived around a year, consciously, and was still figuring out what he even is before going under. The only reason he was ever anything but a good-natured, gold-hearted hero was because of the trauma and revenge-induced worldview. When all of that is stripped away and he starts seeing his purpose and his whole history clearly, he is this slightly naive, open-hearted, mission-driven, contemplative foil to Sonic.

Then he sacrifices his life and dies. And the end of the game is all of the characters, good and bad, united for a scene where they each contemplate who they are and what is right and wrong.

And that’s the effect he had on players, too. He was such a deep, interesting character who was not edgy (even though his backstory was more violent and dark than any other character’s) that they loved him desperately. And SEGA brought him back.

Of course, they brought him back with amnesia, and that probably would’ve been fine, except it spiraled into the Shadow’s Shadow version of the character that got his own video game and worsened everything.

But that’s besides the point.

The original Shadow the Hedgehog, the true, real version of the character, was absolutely the best part of the franchise at the time. And basically, in conclusion, SA2 Shadow is the BEST Shadow.

Recent Reads : November 📚

This is not gonna be a monthly thing. I just wanted to post it and i don’t know how much i’m gonna be able to read this December cause it’s a busy month. I’m thinking of picking up Qiang Jin Jiu and it’s a pretty long and heavy novel so it might take me the whole month. who knows if I’m gonna pick up a short novel in between. If you have any recs based on what I share below, please let me know. Oh, and I also wanna try Fake Slackers.

• First Class Lawyer - NU Link | English Translation

An example of a novel I picked up once and dropped cause i wasn’t in the right headspace. Also at the time it was not completed so I thought to just wait. You can really go back to other stories and give it another try, it’s not always the novel’s fault and i’m happy that I decided to go back and read it. This is such a special story, my first Mu Su Li novel which is from what I understand a popular author ( yes I did read Global Examination but the Manhua ). I’ve always been a fan of scifi stories and settings that touch upon interstellar living. This is really not heavy on technical terms or boring— which is an easy presumption because of the whole “lawyer” thing. There is a good balance between the plot and relationship between the characters.

I adore the dynamic between the MC & ML and i don’t think there is an imbalance at all despite the whole teacher-student setting. if you read the summary of it, you’ll understand there is a twist to it. The ML ( Gu Yan ) is well written too and not flat even if his personality is supposed to be aloof. My favorite trope here tho is how the MC is changed and healed ( in a way ) by the love between him and the ML. It may seem cliche but i like the thought of people living a fuller life because they have someone to share it with. Also Gu Yan’s feelings for Yan Sizhui is so pure i just 😭😭😭

I was browsing through some school themed novels because i enjoyed the moon is coming to me novel and this came up. I don’t know why i’m in a school tropes kick for the month but I truly enjoy it. The title sounds like it’s gonna be an absurd story but i was so wrong. T-mall genie is like google home or alexa, where you can ask it do stuff. I thought this will focus on the fantasy aspect but it was so much more based on reality. The “possession” was just a plot device for the MC to get to know the life of the ML that not everyone is privy too.

Lu Yunfei’s hate for the english subject is so hilarious 😂😂😂 and I like the side characters/ friends. The star of the story tho is the ML, Bian Jinyuan. The top student who has to work multiple jobs and has secrets of his own. I feel for Bian Bian because I know how hard it is to work for your education. He is so smart but he is in danger of not finishing school because his family can’t afford it. I love these kids! I don’t think it’s possible to read this and not root for them. This story is really charming. It’s not trying to be something it’s not. It’s about overcoming your prejudice towards people and finding common ground. Strangers/Enemies to Friends to Lovers tropes at it’s finest. Plus it’s super short, only 80 chapters. It’s the perfect weekend read if you wanna be cozy and have no plans to go out— give this a try.

Another high school setting but with tears. Please read the tags over at NU in case you don’t like some topics on your novel and only want fluffy ones. A short story at 120 ( with extras ) and is a solid novel. There is hidden identity trope that causes funny misunderstandings and it’s so sweet how they wanna save each other from their “unfortunate” circumstance. It’s about trying to live a normal life after traumatic things happened to you. A hopeful story, that it’s gonna be a long road to recovery and there will be people helping you along the way.

The romance aspect is so lovely but I like how the author included friends and family in making the MC/ML be a better version of themselves. Usually it’s all about the romantic relationship in novels like this so it is refreshing to read about how important it is to have a good support system and not just you & me against the world. Qiao Shao ( MC ) is really the best boy. I sometimes wanna cry because of how hard he wants to try and get better for the people around him. Seeing his transformation from Chapter 1 to the end is so rewarding. The ML ( He Shen ) is one of favorite characters now. He is a gremlin towards the MC and then cold towards everyone else. The way he dotes on the MC is so sweet too 🤍 Definitely a story I will be thinking about from time to time and will re-read.

That’s all for the Month and I enjoyed it all! I can hopefully apply the trend of one long novel and 1 or 2 shorts ones moving forward but who knows. I still have a lot of stories to get to. ✌🏼

I can't exactly remember since its been a while since I've written it but yes she does raise Jafar but the queen of Hearts she acts more as an advisor and was a major figure in her court, arriving when the king and queen were still rather young. She was popular for being able to soothe the very hot tempered queen and having memorized every single one of her rules.

Often the card guards will run to look for Yuu when the queen is too much for them to handle. The queen really liked Yuu and was pretty furious when Yuu planned to leave and she was begged to stay but Yuu liked travelling too much to stay until the end of the Queen of Hearts reign so left her with gifts to remember her by and promised to write about her travels.

Jafar she met while travelling across the world, he was from a noble family who due to incompetence among the family heads, excessive spending and having lost favor with the royal family, had become impoverished and Yuu felt pity for Jafar whom she saw great promise in and took under her wing.

He greatly admired Yuu but also thought she lacked ambition and wasted a lot of her talents on settling for a life as a traveler and advisor to people she believed could use some advice. He learned from her about the complexities of court and how much it revolves around the monarch, for ultimately is it the monarch who gets the final say and if he could gain the favor of the sultan, he must always fight to keep it for while the sultan has the final say, the other nobles could always sway his decision.

Yuu was the one who presented Iago to Jafar as a gift when he started to rise in power when he got older.

She left Agrabah when Jafar became Grand Vizier as she desired to travel once more and she only found out about him being trapped in the lamp due to having become a genie via letters. She was heartbroken and never really spoke about him again unless asked until she went to NRC and shared stories of him.

D’you have any favorite Unearthed Arcana ideas that you wish had seen the official light of day?

Yes - I haven't kept up that much with UA lately because I just cannot be bothered with new character races - like I'll read the official materials and use them if I like them but I am, as always, not terribly invested, and I haven't actually looked at official Strixhaven stuff so while I liked certain aspects of Strixhaven I can't answer to what got implemented, but I did use a decent amount of UA stuff as a player and I have a few subclasses I really liked from the past several years:

The Feats for Skills was a great idea and they should implement it. I played a character with the Arcanist feat. I think the more flexible skill system of Pathfinder (and therefore, I assume at least, 3.5e) is one of the major benefits of that system and while I respect streamlining things in 5e, feats are a great way to allow for that kind of customization within the 5e system. The abilities they gave with these feats were great too - using intimidation to demoralize enemies, for example? Incredible.

Similarly, the optional spell versatility rules were really helpful to me as a bard in a campaign where I was, for a long time, the only full caster. It is definitely a little OP but it was also really nice to have. Maybe don't make this super official, or provide some more DM guidance, but perhaps specify it as an option the way customization was provided in Tasha's.

Needs work but the concept was cool:

College of Satire was seriously underpowered but the idea behind it was great; perhaps leaning a little more into the physical skills and providing a guaranteed minimum roll on insight or something might have been better.

City Cleric is incredible. It needs some slight reworking to work in a more "classic" D&D setting but it's such a good idea.

I do like the idea of Theurgist but the execution wasn't great and at this time I think multiclassing wizard and cleric is the way to go...but I'd be interested in a revisit. I don't know what it would look like, but I would look at it.

Seeker Warlock was also super cool and leaned into the lore of warlock as, well, a seeker of knowledge, AND astral plane bullshit my beloved. I think a lot of the mechanics of this got gutted and used for Genie, which is really a step down and a poor choice.

March 2021 Part 4

This is a LONG ONE, it’s been A WEEK everyone. 

Ongoing Series - Thai

Lovely Writer Ep 5 - a little slow this week, but at least Gene finally flirted back, and very cute flirting it was, too. Also we got Aey’s motivation, background, and love interest. Thank goodness for that. 

Brothers Ep 8 - still pants, what can I say? Clearly I am a BL masochist. Very embarrassing for everyone concerned. 

1000 Stars Ep 9 - the conflict over Tian’s father was REALLY well done. The plot of this drama is excellent, the leads are great together, and yes I totally cried. What, you didn’t? 

Ongoing Series - Not Thai

Word of Honor (China) Ep 16-18 - big battle fighty fighty stabby stabby. Ep 17 switches to “this drama isn’t big enough for two chaotic-neutral godlings!” So what do they do? Drink together and bicker... A LOT. Then in Ep 18 we all get the dubious joy of really freaky puppets. (I HATE puppets.) Also how is China letting this be so SO VERY VERY GAY?  Also, I wanna walk through the forest wearing a smanshy purple robe and waving a big fuck-off white fan around simply because I’m a pretentious fuss monger. And frankly, I feel like this is an achievable life goal for me. 

We Best Love 2 (Taiwan) Ep 4 - not gonna lie, this is looking to be one of my top 3 BLs of 2021. It’s SO GOOD. Big bonus to this ep for treating stalker behavior like the mental illness it is and not as some dumb representation of enduring love. 

The Most Peaceful Place is My Place (Vietnam) Ep 1 - finally dropped (find it under NƠI BÌNH YÊN NHẤT LÀ VỀ BÊN EM on O2′s channel). It’s got actors already comfortable with BL and looks pretty good so far. An angry tsundere uke reunited with his ex, a stoic chef, giving us lots of snap, crackle, and pop out the gate. 

Dear Uranus (Taiwan GL) Ep 2 - I want to love it, but it is just moving too fast. There’s not enough character dev and then they’re throwing flashbacks in? It feels like a treatment rather than a show, and a rushed treatment at that. Bummer. 

HIStory 4: Close To You (Taiwan) Ep 2 (AKA Ep 3-4) - let the cheesy popcorn continue! Idiot remains an idiot; ingenue remains an ice queen; nice gay guy remains nice and gay; obsessive stalker brother is getting ever more whackadoddle. Of course these last two have the best chemistry. (It’s caregiver codependency and the salvation trope. We got us a Leo/Fiat situation going on.​) Plus lots of classic BL tropes because OF COURSE there are lots of tropes. 

Occasionally, I am tempted to argue that shows like H4 or Cherry Magic or Ossan’s Love aren’t technically BL because of the office setting and age of the protags - but then they all behave like high school students anyway, so *shrug* 

Stand Alones

Cute little Taiwanese micro BL Friend or Lover dropped, about bisexual realization within a friendship group. Normally these are too short for me, but this one did pretty good with its 15 minutes of charm, plus it’s abad boy + shy softy pairing. 

Breaking News - Thai BL

Fish Upon the Sky released its actual trailer. The upside-down kiss is gone, which makes everyone sad, and it seems far less rivals to lovers than the first iteration, which makes ME sad. But it still looks good and a more classic BL than GMMTV has given us in a while. New trailer focused more on the makeover trope and they’ve upped Mix’s role (the object of everyone’s affection) now that he’s proved himself. (Or they are using him more to carry the trailer since he has a fan base form 1k*). Starts April 9 on GMMTV in 1K*’s time slot, probably with a 10 ep run. 

2gether the movie is apparently coming April 22 to Thai theaters. F4 Thailand must be having issues or GMMTV just wants to milk the BrightWin cash cow. It’s rumored to be a combination of 2gehter + Still 2gether with some extra scenes and ending. Also, one assumes a lot will be cut out, if it’s movie length.

Call It What You Want released its updated trailer. If anything, it looks more scary than before. What are we in for? April 9th. 

Nitiman got a release date, May 7 on One31. 

I Told Sunset About You 2 got an updated release date of May 27 on LineTV. 

Second Chance the series is coming to LineTV on March 29. I don’t know much about this one. Tons of familiar faces (mostly TharnType side dishes) and some nice looking new talent but a dearth of eng subs. I think it may take on Brothers’ time slot. Line did eng subs for Brothers so maybe they will do 2nd Chance too? 

Close Friend the series is coming April 22. This is a combination of 6 couples with 6 story arcs as music videos (maybe)? It’s an epic fan service with familiar faces like OhmFluke (UWMA), MaxNat (LBC also in Y-Destiny), YoonLay (YYY also in Y-Destiny), KimCop (GenY), and JaFirst (TT2).

Y-Destiny starts March 30, and has starting dropping couple’s trailers. I’m still suspicious given the director but it seems like there is plot (or plots) and a theme. Looks to be a series of 7 single ep vignettes (amended, see comments, might be 2 eps each for 14 eps total), different couple each time, some with supernatural elements, all with decent chemistry and acting chops.

Tues sports romance enemies to lovers 

Weds the messy realistic actual dating one

I’m thinking we can’t expect any of these to end happy or be classic BL. They’re gonna be more slice of life-ish. 

Gossip - BL Outside of Thailand 

Scholar Ryu’s Wedding Ceremony AKA Nobleman Ryu’s Wedding (Korean historical BL) got a legit teaser (eng sub here). @curriculumvtae​ reports that it’s releasing April 15th on WeTV (Philippines & Thailand) and Idol Romance (South Korea), while Will of Thai Bl says it’ll be on Viki too. It’s a short run of 8 ep built on a fake relationship trope (arranged marriage variant):

Ryu Ho Seon’s (Kang In Soo from You Wish) arranged marriage turns out to be with his expected bride’s brother, Choi Ki Wan (Lee Se Jin from Mr Heart). Ryu tries to undo the marriage, but his ill mother opposes this saying the scandal would be too much. Meanwhile, Kim Tae Hyeong (Jang Eui Soo from Where Your Eyes Linger), a senior at Ryu’s school, comes to congratulate him and falls in love with Choi. Then one day, the original bride disappears.

Okay it seems a bit twisty turny for ONLY 8 EPS, but oh my goodness how excited are we? Our first intentional historical BL out of Korea!

We already knew Hong Kong was doing a remake of Japan’s Ossan’s Love under the same name (not my favorite Japanese BL but so very popular) but it’s now reported to be coming to Viu in June. Who knows how the CFA will take it. Depends on whether Hong Kong bows before the NO GAY KISSES regs or if they are going to use this as a political nose thumb... things could get cray with this puppy (the original has several kisses and s shower scene). Are we back in Addicted territory only with added comedy and civil unrest?

Speaking of Japan, Absolute BL (AKA Zettai BL ni Naru Sekai vs Zettai BL ni Naritakunai Otoko) dropped sooner than anyone thought, March 27. But being Japanese who knows how/when/if we get subs. Protag finds himself trapped in a world of BL, but being straight he fights against any hot guy that draws near, but the whole world (literally) is conspiring against him. It’s a parody adapted from a yoai.

What with Absolute BL from Japan plus Lovely Writer and Call it What You Want from Thailand, is 2021 the year of BL being ultra self referential? Sure feels like it.

In Case You Missed It

Faded a gay micro film from Taiwan from 2017 deals with parental acceptance and serves up a ton of BL tropes (piggyback, forehead kiss, etc). I’m pretty sure this was a propaganda piece for legalization of gay marriage, and it’s an interesting nugget of BL history as a result. Yes, it ends happy. It’s cute.

oh hell yeah snsd paved the way yeah they really did bro they really did. like i know a lot of people came here in 2017 or during quarantine, so let me tell you how things were in 2008. i know that boa and tvxq started it in japan but i lived in the SEA, and it was the mostly the second gens that started it here. back in elementary school where no one actually knows kpop and suddenly, suddenly they all did. initially there was a resistence and dismissive responses, such as why are they wearing such short pants, why are the dances so meaningless (in my culture a dance HAS to have meaning so it took a while until people are accustomed to that), but it was not that long, those 2nd gen sound has such an addictive quality that i think is vital to make people not care about anything else.

it was gee that personally started the hallyu wave in my school. over recess we were begging our teachers to let us play the music in the computer, and after that we just jamming to it and learned the dance in the class. after that there's other snsd tracks like genie and oh! and run devil run, also we started to listen to other groups as well, this "multis aren't true fan" bullshit is nonexistent, almost. there were bigbang and wonder girls and 2ne1 and shinee (+ a lot of people here know shinee and ss501 after boys over flowers, that drama was a major hit, i'm telling you). i remember the boys really loving 2pm's hands up and just jumping and popping on it in the hallway. literally no one knows what are they singing but it slaps, and who cares anyway if we don't understand, we listened to english songs without a clue, too. when a comeback happen one of the friends with internet at home will Inform the class so others could check it out. i read sunday newspapers religiously too so i won't miss a comeback, even if i have to wait for two weeks for a school work that requires visiting internet cafe to finally check the mv. we did so without shame too, i guess not too much stupid things has happened.

around 2012 and 2013 people were a lot more welcoming about kpop groups, and a new wave of groups came up, there were exo and bap and yes, bts. the grip 2nd gen has is really strong, though, around these year snsd also came to my country and outsold some 10000+ ticket for one night. i have a whole meltdown about not getting to see them.

bts went over here as early as mid or late 2013.. i think. i remember someone scribbling "2 kool 4 skool" badge on a school table and asking my friend how the fuck did "bulletproof scoutboys" become "bts" in 7th grade. so like... to the (especilly white) btspoppers, your boys have always been popular, lol. you don't elevate them or shit. they don't need saving. instead they have to dumb themselves down so they could penetrate your thick caucasian skulls. and they don't start shit here. snsd and other 2nd gens did. thing would be a lot more difficult for them without snsd doing the introduction and heavy lifting. but of course, asiawide accolades means nothing, right? of course any asian group needs Enlightened White People approval to truly be seen as popular -_- sorry for the rant i'm really upset with how armys behave towards snsd lately. like know HESTORY, dammit. i have never seen so many people being proud of not knowing a fundamental group? honestly if anyone said "i've never heard about them" about say, snsd and bigbang, that's just makes me not going to take their opinion seriously, lol. ah, here comes the newbie sprouting opinions after knowing one album of one group. better leave them alone.

~When it comes to traveling: Cassie always wanted to travel to South Korea ever since how gets excited about anything with South Korea as she also adds Japan as well as Spain, France: Italy; Greece and New Zealand plus Australia (Mainly she wants to go to Queensland and Gold Coast); Brazil and Mexico while Virgil wants to go to Greece, France: Italy; Argentina: Singapore: Malaysia and Oman as well as United Arab Emirates (He didn't want to choose there because of all of the wealth; glitz and glam; mostly to explore what does UAE looks like); South Africa (He would love to go to Cape Town) and Azerbaijan and Croatia plus Antigua and Barbuda.

~Virgil sometimes loves going to the beach in Hawaii; especially whenever he is in Hawaii; either with his family of his dad and his sister, his friends (Yes, not just only Cassie; it could be everybody else on either Traci; Jaime, Bart: Ed; Victor, Tim and Stephanie--mostly it is with Cassie) or even on his own presence; he  always love going to a beach in Hawaii.

~During Halloween; Cassie remembers how she did have an idea of dressing up as a genie from one of her favorite My Scene movie Masquerade Madness where Delancey did dressed up as a genie and although she may had planned to dress up the genie from the Masquerade Madness several times; however it didn't ended up happening that is until when she arrives to the University of Hawaii where on Halloween day; she finally gets the chance to dress up as the genie from the My Scene movie "Masquerade Madness" as Virgil did mostly wear an Aloha Shirt (Or a Hawaii shirt); a pair of jeans and having a fake lei (Garland) around his neck to sport a simple costume yet to also represent Hawaii as well.

~Both of them are a big fan of the University of Hawaii American football Team as well as the Super Bowl; Virgil is a big fan of the Seattle Seahawks while Cassie is a fan of the Miami Dolphins.

~Virgil is a big fan of music; he sometimes play really loud music from his iPod where he always blast his music out loud sometimes whenever he is cleaning or making meals for both Cassie and V himself; people would think he is crazy for both blasting the music from his iPod so loud yet having to disrupt the neighbors in the morning with his music blasting from his iPod however after he explained to them about how he loves nothing better than having good music at their apartment (Yes, he and Cassie did share an apartment together as they both pay for the extensions equally.); they truthfully understand and left them (Yes, I am talking about Virgil and Cassie here) alone in their own presence.

~One of Virgil's favorite movie is the Fast and Furious series and whenever he has a conversation with Jaime, Garfield; Victor: Bart; Ed and Tim; he always talks about how he loves the Nissan Skyline GTR 34 that Brian (Played by the late Paul Walker, one of Virgil's favorite actor) had raced from the second movie of the Fast and Furious series.

~One of Virgil’s favorite topic he loves to share with Cassie is about the WNBA; he did remember how when the WNBA Fans did spoke about the WNBA expansion on social media; that's when he spoke to Cassie about how he wants to see a team in either San Francisco (Or Oakland); Toronto: Portland, San Diego: Milwaukee and Hawaii.

~Cassie remembers how streak hairs are so popular; she remembers how she wants pink streaks in her long blonde hair, however her parents especially her mom prohibits her from having pink streaks in her blonde hair as she worries their daughter might go against the school dressing code; Cassie only manages to get the Royal Hawaiian pink streaks in her long blonde hair when she enters the University of Hawaii.

~Virgil did have a Twitch account where he did a lot of the gaming streams that he did; particularly his favorite  games are Need for Speed Underground; NBA 2k (Mostly he plays the WNBA 2k) and both of Endless Ocean game. (Speaking of video games; he (Virgil) would love to see a WNBA 2k game.)

~Virgil also loves snorkeling especially after his first experience at the Haunama Bay Beach when they went there with their friends for a first time experience and he pleasantly enjoys it more than he expected.

I did enjoy the pancake skit, but I do think using an owl as a stamp is unsanitary. XD As for the Symphonia Cast... Lloyd: He's a simple sort of guy so he probably likes regular old flapjacks. He's also more of a meat kind of person if I remember correctly, so he probably prefers his pancakes as a side to some bacon and eggs (Two of each for double the power? XD) Colette: She is a known fruit fiend so her pancakes are probably filled with blueberry and strawberry and banana and piled high with fruit salad as a topping. I'm not sure how big a condiment syrup is in Japan, now that I think about it. I know Fruit Sando is popular, that is, a soft sweet white bread sandwich filled with whipped cream and fruits. But I'm not sure if they eat these kinds of things with syrups. Maybe? Colette likes fruit so I assume she would have it with syrup and whipped cream, too, but maybe just the whipped cream? Genis: Crepe supremacism. Thin pancakes, strawberry and Nutella filling, powdered sugar and sweet cream. Probably also goes for an egg and cheese crepe as a snack. Raine: You know soufflé pancakes? Those, but severely failed and with lemon because Raine refuses not to experiment. Curdled scrambled egg in the middle, pockets of unincorporated baking powder and flour, and soggy, curdled eggy milky pieces of lemon on the bottom. I also guarantee she's accidentally poured soy sauce on them and insisted they were good and now she does it on purpose. Zelos: Soufflé pancakes but done correctly. Powdered sugar and butter on top, fruit salad (heavy on the melon) on the side. Sheenah: Savory crepes. Literally the breakfast wrap queen. Tons of egg, meat and veggies in a crepe which is then wrapped in a second crepe with a cheese or sauce. You know the anime trope of a character running late for school and they're jogging down the street with an egg on toast in their mouth? That's Sheena, but she's doing ninja stuff with a crepe-based breakfast wrap in her mouth. If she does sweet crepes, she has them made with cinnamon and nutmeg for a kick and a coffee-based syrup or sauce. Presea: Probably very basic. Standard flapjack, butter, syrup. Even if syrup isn't common, I bet Presea would like it. She's a lumberjack by trade. I bet she knows all about tree syrups. She doesn't need to eat but damn it she's not getting Richter to touch her any other way so... Aster: Would trade his pancakes for a good donut but will bite your head off if you touch his pancakes in the absence of a donut to trade. Flapjacks, butter, boysenberry syrup. Yes boysenberry syrup. danny phantom episode 4-7 Thoughts: (under a readmore because, these got kinda long!)

-the outfit danny had to buy for dash's party. CLASSIC 2000S i cannot stop laughing. And also showing up to the party and everyone is dressed like the trio is hilarious. and further proof that everyone looks good dressed goth.

-dash has a closet full of cute lil bear plushies?? LOVE that. adorable. also his response to danny trashing his room fighting a ghost was SO valid if somone BROKE MY BED IN HALF ID BE PISSED TOO.

-technus being like 'oh smart, u should be a tutor!' then later being like 'forget tutor, be a teacher!' :) supportive king <3 I also really like his upgraded suit/design. AND SPOCK CAMEO??? HELLO??

-the music in this show is super. its so funky. I looked it up and the guy who does it, guy moon (awesome name) also did music for other cartoons like fairly odd parents, barnyard, chalkzone, billy & mandy, AND some actual movies like FIGHT CLUB??? the whiplash I got from reading that)

Meet the citizens of my modern supernatural neighbourhood (feat. inconsistent translations) part 1

I’ve reached 600 followers! Thank you! This time I decided to gift you with something different - I’ll show you my modern supernatural neighbourhood, since I rarely share my game pics. The name of neighnourhood and its citizens aren’t originally English, so som names will be translated, some will be not, depending which versions feels better imo. The neighbourhood is called “Mroków”, I’m not really sure how to translate it. I could translate it as something like “Darkville”. But as you will see, its not that dark. ;)

You may recognise some faces as they appear. Also, please note that I give traits and secondary aspirations to only some of my Sims to make things more varied. :)

I divided the city into several districts. This one is inhabited by 6 families.

I’ll start with the Soul family. Its sole member is Damned Soul (as you’ll notice, I’m terrible with making up names, so be prepared).

She is a ghost, who has her thombstone in the garden. She lives next to the cemetary. She’s a professional dancer. She’s friends with Nadim Genie and Thaddeus Zombie. Damned is a fortune Sim. People say that after death you don’t need wealth, but apparently she disagrees. Her personality is sloppy/neat 7, shy/outgoing 4, lazy/active 8, serious/playful 3, grouchy/nice 3.

Then we’ve got the Genie family with its founder - Nadim Genie. He’s a genie and works in the culinary career. He’s a neighbour and friend of Damned Soul. Thanks to his outgoing nature he’s got many friends - Elisabeth Yes, Sławomir Test, Erlendi Elf and Marcellina April. He’s a romance Sim. His personality is sloppy/neat 3, shy/outgoing 7, lazy/active 3, serious/playful 6, grouchy/nice 6. He also takes care of his supernatural crops in his garden.

The Xi’ars are Nadim’s neighbours. They have just moved into Darkville, so they haven’t befriended anyone yet. Left to right: Ni-haa (daughter), Ina’a (son) held by his father, Hi’ira, and Lya, mother of kids and wife of Hi’ira.

Hi’ira is a popularity Sim, who works in law enforcement. His secondary aspiration is knowledge. His personality is sloppy/neat 6, shy/outgoing 3, lazy/active 6, serious/playful 6, grouchy/nice 4.

Lya is a pleasure Sim. She’s a sportswoman. Her secondary aspiration is also knowledge. Her personality is sloppy/neat 5, shy/outgoing 3, lazy/active 7, serious/playful 3, grouchy/nice 7.

Ni-haa wants to befriend Cecil Wings. Her personality is sloppy/neat 6, shy/outgoing 3, lazy/active 6, serious/playful 4, grouchy/nice 6.

Ina’a’s personality is sloppy/neat 5, shy/outgoing 3, lazy/active 6, serious/playful 3, grouchy/nice 8.

Side note: I read “Hi’ira” as “He eerah”, “Lya” as “Leeah”, “Ni-haa” as “Neehaah” and “Ina’a” as “Eenah ah”. The thing with alien names is that you cannot be sure how to read them. 😅

Side note 2: Ni-haa is aged down Alpha Centauri.

Then we’ve got Thaddeus Zombie, who lives in a cheap, cramped and dirty apartment. He doesn’t remember his life before death. Inspite of being a zombie, he’s outgoing and has popularity aspiration. He’s friends with Damned Soul and wants to befriend Bonehilda (team undead!) and Marcellina April. He’s a journalist. His personality is sloppy/neat 4, shy/outgoing 8, lazy/active 7, serious/playful 3, grouchy/nice 3.

Next up The Tests, whom you may remember. Left to right: Rozalia, Marius, Casimir held by Przemysław and Sławomir playing with their cat, Saper. They also have an aquarium, a parrot, a squirrel and a guinea pig.

Przemysław is Sławomir’s husband and Casimir’s biological father. Guy loves being abducted by aliens. I just hope that his husband doesn’t mind that. 😆 His aspiration is knowledge and secondary is family. He’s friends with Alexander Lance (and when I opened up their lot to take pictures, he wanted to flirt with him. Przemysław, please don’t.) You’ll get chance to see @blackswan-sims​‘ warlock next time. :) Przemysław’s personality is sloppy/neat 2, shy/outgoing 8, lazy/active 2, serious/playful 6, grouchy/nice 7. He’s also light sleeper, adventurous, virtuoso, hydrophobic and good. And if I remember correctly, he’s in his first trimester of pregnancy, but this time with Sławomir and not Pollination Technican. :>

Sławomir is a plantsim, but he doesn’t have leafy hair (and you’ll see that some plantsims in this neighbourhood have). Like his husband’s, his aspiration is knowledge and secondary is family. He’s the biological father of Rozalia. Like Przemysław, he’s unemployed, but with they big (and growing) family, I have to find them some jobs. He’s friends with Nadim Genie, Flora Alga and Marcellina April. He’s an artistic, lucky and over-emotional coward and snob. Beside that, his personality is sloppy/neat 4, shy/outgoing 7, lazy/active 8, serious/playful 3, grouchy/nice 3.

Rozalia is a plantsim and a biological daughter of Sławomir. She’s friends with Cecil Wings and has good relationship with her adoptive brother, Marius. Her personality is sloppy/neat 4, shy/outgoing 7, lazy/active 8, serious/playful 3, grouchy/nice 3. She’s a coward, workaholic and light sleeper.

Marius is an adoptive son of Przemysław and Sławomir. He’s friends with his sister and Cecil Wings. His personality is sloppy/neat 4, shy/outgoing 4, lazy/active 4, serious/playful 7, grouchy/nice 6. He’s hydrophobic vegeterian and a light sleeper.

Casimir is a biological son of Przemysław and a half-alien. His personality is sloppy/neat 10, shy/outgoing 7, lazy/active 0, serious/playful 10, grouchy/nice 8. Somehow a slob gave birth to neat freak. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯  He’s artistic heavy sleeper.

Saper is a doofus, lazy, independent, neither aggresive nor cowardly and finicky.

Last but not least the Alga family. Its members are: Flora, her husband Odysseus and their twins: Emilia and Ariel (in this case Ariel is a male name, whatever). They are all mermaids.

Flora is a popularity Sim. She’a lawyer, who loves to swim, is a supernatural fan and is adventurous. She’s friends with Sławomir Test and Alice Wings. Her personality is sloppy/neat 5, shy/outgoing 5, lazy/active 7, serious/playful 5, grouchy/nice 3.

Odysseus is a pleasure Sim. He’s a natural scientist, who loves to swim and loves the outdoors. He’s also a bookworm and a coward. He’s friends with Radosław Wolf. His personality is sloppy/neat 6, shy/outgoing 3, lazy/active 6, serious/playful 4, grouchy/nice 6.

Emilia’s personality is sloppy/neat 9, shy/outgoing 3, lazy/active 9, serious/playful 10, grouchy/nice 1 and Ariel’s personality is sloppy/neat 6, shy/outgoing 3, lazy/active 10, serious/playful 6, grouchy/nice 10. Sometimes twins are just each others opposites and apparently its their case when it comes to being nice.

There are two more districts to go (or three or four, depending on how I’ll split them). I have you’re enjoying so far this little tour. :)
