Genesis 31
Day & Night
I bore the loss of it myself. From my hand you required it, whether stolen by day or stolen by night. There I was: by day the heat consumed me, and the cold by night, and my sleep fled from my eyes.
Jacob was abused through power, being controlled by Laban but he still faithfully finish his works with integrity. God sees it, every single day, day and night, when Jacob labored and was treated with injustice, he was able to stand firm at where he was and wait on to the Lord.
I pray that Lord, even during this trial period of my workplace. People are leaving the company with anger, with sadness, with hatred, with unforgiveness, I pray that on behalf of them, healing and comfort over them Lord. I know it wasn’t easy for all of them, including myself. But I pray we will all able to move on, and for me, I’m able to fix my eyes on You, and not what’s happening physically towards me that I can’t control. You are in control of this situation, and I know You see everything, all the injustices, all the misunderstanding, all the backstabbing and lies. You see them and I pray for healing even right now in my heart as I’m lifting this prayer up to You, Lord. I pray that I will continue this route until You call me to the next one. I put my trust onto You, Lord. Lead me.
Amen

Goodmorning🇹🇿🇬🇧🌍#Cupoftea☕️“Now Jacob heard the words of Laban’s sons, saying, “Jacob has taken away all that was our father’s, and from what was our father’s he has acquired all this wealth.” And Jacob saw the countenance of Laban, and indeed it was not favorable toward him as before. Then the LORD said to Jacob, “Return to the land of your fathers and to your family, and I will be with you.” So Jacob sent and called Rachel and Leah to the field, to his flock, and said to them, “I see your father’s countenance, that it is not favorable toward me as before; but the God of my father has been with me. And you know that with all my might I have served your father. Yet your father has deceived me and changed my wages ten times, but God did not allow him to hurt me. If he said thus: ‘The speckled shall be your wages,’ then all the flocks bore speckled. And if he said thus: ‘The streaked shall be your wages,’ then all the flocks bore streaked. So God has taken away the livestock of your father and given them to me. “And it happened, at the time when the flocks conceived, that I lifted my eyes and saw in a dream, and behold, the rams which leaped upon the flocks were streaked, speckled, and gray-spotted. Then the Angel of God spoke to me in a dream, saying, ‘Jacob.’ And I said, ‘Here I am.’ And He said, ‘Lift your eyes now and see, all the rams which leap on the flocks are streaked, speckled, and gray-spotted; for I have seen all that Laban is doing to you. I am the God of Bethel, where you anointed the pillar and where you made a vow to Me. Now arise, get out of this land, and return to the land of your family.’ ” Then Rachel and Leah answered and said to him, “Is there still any portion or inheritance for us in our father’s house? Are we not considered strangers by him? For he has sold us, and also completely consumed our money. For all these riches which God has taken from our father are really ours and our children’s; now then, whatever God has said to you, do it.” Then Jacob rose and set his sons and his wives on camels....#Genesis31;1-55 #PraisetheLord#Godisgood#wordoftheday#believe#faith#hope#beblessed#lifestyleblogger#RachelSiwa🙏🏽😊❤️☕️👩🏽‍💻📍📌

He has been with me!
Today’s devotions takes us to Genesis 31, the story of Jacob’s fleeing from Laban.
When Jacob noticed that Laban’s attitude toward him has changed, God told him to flee the land, and reassures him that He is with him. Once Jacob receives God’s command to flee, he turns to Rachel and Leah and said:
“I see that your father’s attitude toward me is not what it was before, but...”
(Ouuu, there’s a “but”!!!)
“... but the God of my father has been with me.” - Genesis 31:5
Jacob’s attitude about this situation is something else. He knows that Laban’s shifted feelings towards him could possibly lead to trouble (well, mainly also because God did warn the guy to flee immediately). But what’s so great is how he reacts in this situation. He reassures Rachel and Leah that the Lord God, Father of his earthly father, is with him. What Jacob is basically saying (in a more modernized lingo) is: “Hey, your father doesn’t seem to like me anymore and things probably won’t turn out so nicely from here on, but don’t worry because God has been with me all this time.”
But don’t worry because “the God of my father has been with me.” I love that Jacob has that attitude of faith, trusting in the Lord’s promise that He will be with him. He didn’t sit and fret anxiously over the fact that Laban treated him unfairly. Instead, He chooses to follow God’s command and flees Laban’s land with his wives... Why? Because I believe that he trusts where God is leading him. Because he knows that God goes before him.
Isn’t that the attitude we should have when troubles comes our way? Do we sit and let those troubles overwhelm us, and paralyzes us in fear or stress? Or do we choose to stand up to the obstacles in our way and say “God is with me so I will keep on going”? I know that my attitude hasn’t been like this this past week.
Lately, I find myself feeling overwhelmed by many things, specifically school and my future. My mind is constantly filled with anxious thoughts, “what ifs” questions, and numerous hypothetical future plans. These are the obstacles that I’m facing, and it has left me stuck in worry and fear of the unknown. But tonight, the story of Jacob has made me realize that I need an attitude change. Why am I worrying? Why am I fretting over things and trying to take complete control? Why am I so scared? There’s no reason to be because my God goes before me and His promises never fails.
If you continue reading towards the end of Genesis 31, you’ll see that God fulfilled his promise to Jacob. Laban did pursue Jacob, but in the end, Jacob was able to leave the land unharmed and in peace, because God promised that He will be with him.
See?! His promises never fails! It’s like that song by Hillsong Worship called ”In God We Trust”:
“Overwhelmed but I won’t break / Through the battle I will say / Your grace will be enough... We will trust through the unknown / I know You go before... Our hope forever secure in You alone.”
What troubles are you (or will you be) facing today? What’s the attitude that you’re walking with? Is it an attitude of faith or is it an attitude of fear? I pray that you choose to walk with faith, and may you witness God’s wonderful works at hand in your times of trouble!
