I missed posting about my three year archery anniversary of when I started taking professional classes. It was sometime in early October. Not much else has happened, still at intermediate level, still at 25lb draw weight, no other updates.
(I was a background extra over the summer again but they overbooked archery extras so I was just a normal person)

Going to be making my own arrows soon, hopefully during the summer? That should be fun!
They will match my current carbon-fibre purple and green fake feathered ones, (bought from my archery school) as I don't have enough of those.
Also as another archery update, I got to try my instructor's 40lb draw weight modern recurve, with supervision, of course. It was very interesting! However, it will be a long time until I can get up to that weight.

you’re so fucking lucky to have been on set at percy jackson you have no idea how jealous i am rn
tho i am going to a performing arts college next year so MAYBEEEE one day i can be in percy jackson (if they keep renewing it)
good luck in college! It's going to be so cool having long time fans of the series working on the show!
Yeah, I hope they renew it too, the streaming landscape these days looks so bleak... (side-eyeing Netflix cancelling so many shows this year)

My Time On The Set Of Percy Jackson and the Olympians PART FIVE
(probably the final part as I don't know what else there is to talk about...)
Just going to share some random things that don't really fit into a category:
They let me keep the hair elastic from Hair & Makeup (I lost it a few months afterwards but it was the only thing I got to keep)
There was a real horse on set, but I didn't get to see it up close :( but I did see it from a distance!
They had real plants and foliage for a garden scene that I haven't seen in the trailers yet but trust me, the plants are real!
The camp scenes were filmed on a farm, so while waiting around (lots of waiting...) I watched some cows in a field!
They had a school tent set up for full-time extras.
I got to sit in a golf cart with a few fellow archery extras >:D

My time on the set of Percy Jackson and the Olympians PART FOUR
The Props
Me and the other special ability archery extras (other people from my archery school) all got fake bows, armguards and back quivers.
We didn't fire actual arrows, as all archery in film now is computer generated. (at least, I think so...)
Anyone who's done archery for a while would know that dry firing a bow is bad, (and can even cause the bow to explode!) but with a fake bow you aren't using enough force to break it, hopefully.
Although, one of the prop bows did break, but luckily they had spares.
The Weather
Despite the fact that the camp scenes were filmed in May and June of 2022, both days I was on set were overcast and cloudy. It even rained a few times but not enough to seriously ruin anything.

My time on the set of Percy Jackson and the Olympians PART THREE
Early mornings and late evenings
I was only there for two days, but both time were about 12 hours if I can remember correctly.
Arrived bright and early on location via what I called the secret bus (so no one knew where the location was) at around 8 in the morning, had to wake up at six because the location was so far away.
Filming wrapped up at around 8 or 9 because it was in June so the days were long. (got home at 10 or 11pm)
I am very surprised I managed to get enough sleep during those wild two days!
The craft cart!
I loved the craft cart. For anyone who doesn't know, the craft cart is where the food is served. Both days were slightly chilly with occasional rain so we had things like lentil soup and hot chocolate. (I loved the lentil soup and tried to make it myself a week later and failed...)
There was also a never ending supply of coffee for all the technicians. They deserved it!
(I will go into the actual filming in a different post, trying to remember things from a year and a half ago takes time!)

My time on the set of Percy Jackson and the Olympians PART TWO
(in my first part, I talked about how I got casted and now I will share about the costuming process!)(part three will talk about being on the actual set I just want to give background info first)
Costumes & Covid Tests
I really wish I had a journal at the time and these memories are a year and a half old so bear with me...
If my memory serves me right, I got three Covid tests at the actual studio? One before signing any papers, one after signing papers and one before costumes. This maybe took a week?
It was drop in but we had to get the tests done within a week, so I ended up having to go to the studio at around six or seven in the morning so that I could return to school on time...
After the tests and paperwork, I had my measurements taken for costumes. This happened at a time in my life when I wasn't as insecure of my body, so it went pretty well.
The costumes, as you can see in the trailers, are an orange camo T-Shirt and jean pants. This was actually before I entered my sweatpants phase and never left, so I was fine with the black jeans.
The costumer took a picture of me in my costume and I even got a rainbow beanie to add some *spice* to the character's costume.
Afterwards, the costume was hung in a big area full of costume racks with various other costumes, probably for later episodes.
Scheduling...
All this happened at the end of May of 2022, when I was also dealing with running tech for my high school theatre company's play. During tech week. I'm surprised I didn't go insane!
(it's a miracle it lined up so well or else I would have had to turn down this opportunity due to opening week, but luckily the filming started right afterwards. Thank you, Theatre Gods!)

My time on the set of Percy Jackson and the Olympians PART ONE
(Dividing it into parts to make it easier to read)
Casting and Headshots
In the spring of of 2022, a casting group reached out to my archery school and asked them to ask their best youth students if they wanted an opportunity to be an extra in "an upcoming TV show".
I was selected because I was the right age they were looking for and I had pretty decent archery form for only doing it for about a year at the time.
Over the next few weeks, I got headshots taken (thanks dad & your camera!) as well as pictures of me holding and drawing a bow. Those were sent to the casting agency and they got back to me shortly.
Because the... Plague... was still a small problem I had to watch lots of videos on how to stay safe on set. Then the adventure truly began!
END OF PART ONE (In Part Two I will go over the many COVID tests I had to take as well as the wonders of the costume department)

Introduction Post
Hi! In case you don't know me, this is @moonthemagical's sideblog about archery, as it's the only moderately sport-y thing I do.
About me: She/They, Aro-Ace, enough said.
Fun Facts!
I've been doing archery for three years!
I currently use a 25lb draw weight modern recurve bow. (PSE Nighthawk)
In June of 2022, I got to be a special ability extra on the upcoming Percy Jackson and the Olympians TV show for a few of the camp scenes. I drew a fake bow with no arrows because they added arrows afterwards with special effects. I talked about that in a few posts, here is a helpful list.
Open Ask Box
I have my ask box open if you want to ask questions about archery! No question is too stupid! (unless you want to try making stupid questions, I won't stop you...)
(if you also do archery, you can send me asks as well so we can bond over our shared experiences)
