realizing the reason I hate Zane x Vex (as a ship) so much is because of my burning hatred for Billford and the fact that I've gone on countless rants about how Ford and Zane are similar and how Bill and Vex are similar
I also find it interesting how my favourite fictional character (Bill) is so similar to my least favourite fictional character (Vex).
Listen, they're both manipulators from another realm who manipulated this smart autistic guy into helping them harm others without their knowing. Also they talk really similar/have similar mannerisms and I dislike it heavily.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Anyways that drawing was just an excuse to go on a mini rant on Ford and Zane because listen they would be such besties

Thinking of how when Lloyd finds out Akita is actually a person and not just an unusual wolf, he gets really hostile and accuses her of being a liar, being untrustworthy. Because she basically 'tricked' him by pretending to be a regular animal through her Formling powers. And then we have Vex, who himself is a Formling but feels disconnected due to lacking the powers that set them apart from regular humans. And he demonizes them to Grimfax and Zane as liars and deceivers. They 'hide' their true identity/intent behind innocuous animal forms. Vex doesn't have a form himself, but he's actually the liar he makes out ALL Formlings to be. So it's like he compensates for a lack of animal form to deceive others with by lying more directly; His persona as a trustworthy advisor is his own 'form' to hide and blend in with, and to gain Zane's trust, just as Akita gained Lloyd's trust.

Preserved Memories
Summary: Ice is a delicate thing. It has the power to create. It has the power to destroy, but more importantly, it has to power to preserve. The Ice Emperor had no memories to preserve. One day he hears a voice unfamiliar to him that others cannot hear.
A/N: I finished the Ice Chapter a few days ago and wanted to write a fic about the Ice Emperor. Enjoy!
Tumblr media
Ice is a delicate thing. It has the power to create. It has the power to destroy, but more importantly, it has to power to preserve. For ice was the only element that could withstand time, freezing the lives of people as the world ages without them. Only ice could carry on their memories to a new life, but it was fragile. It could break with ease, and those memories could be shattered along with the ice.
For as long as the Ice Emperor existed, he was surrounded by ice. Yet he had nothing to preserve. His first memory was in a dark cave with icy stalagmites and stalactites surrounding him. He was trapped in a cave with icicles as the bars. None of his memories were preserved with the ice. It wasn’t until Vex gave him back his staff that he could break those bars. The staff gave him a power that flared inside his head, filling the space where the memories were supposed to be. As the Ice Emperor followed his advisor out of the cave, he caught a glimpse of his reflection in the ice. A titanium face. He saw a red circle hover over the face and heard a voice whispering “Scanning. Identifying object or person” but where was the voice coming from? Vex didn’t seem to hear it. Perhaps he will ask him when he had the chance.
The Ice Emperor reclaimed his palace with Vex at his side. One day he decided to walk the cold halls alone, the sound of his staff clunking against the ground with each step. The night breeze escaped through a sliver in the window. It blew against the icicles lining the ceiling, making a sound akin to singing. The Ice Emperor stopped to listen to the symphony. He thought he could hear voices speaking amidst the wind. Their words were being carried by the wind as it travelled through the hall. The Ice Emperor hurried after it.
He could hear a bird flapping its wings, the sound of tinkering -  an old man’s words fighting against the wind.
“You were built to-“
The window flew open and a large gust of wind blew through the hallway. The voices became howling as the wind carried them away. Was it normal to hear voices in the wind? The Ice Emperor would have to ask his advisor later.
He continued his walk along the hallway. The wind stopped and the Ice Emperor stood in front of a window. He could see the frozen lake stretching for miles beyond his palace. His dragon, Boreal, soared through the air, its snowy body shining brightly against the dark sky. No stars were there to share in its brilliance. The frozen lake was illuminated by the moonlight shining above.
The Ice Emperor admired the serenity of his land, until he spotted movement on the ice. There were five figures, each clad in red, blue, black, green and grey. The Emperor narrowed his eyes but he could not make out who figures were. Five red circles danced across his vision and hovered over the figures. “Scanning. Identitfy-“ The Ice Emperor didn’t have time to listen to that voice! After all, the last voice he tried to listen to disappeared before he had the chance. He aimed his staff at the figures and fired his ice. Yet he could not freeze them. They backflipped and rolled away from his beams. Boreal noticed the Emperor pointing his staff, so he followed his master’s orders and fired ice at the lake. The figures managed to escape each attack, and all that was left were several large chunks of ice protruding from the lake. A cloud covered the moon and the figures vanished. They disappeared like the voices in the window, leaving behind a dull lake for the Emperor to be unimpressed with.
“My Emperor, sir.” It was Vex. He was bowing to the Ice Emperor. “We found a village person here to challenge you. Perhaps you can punish them for daring to defy your rule.”
“Bring me to them,” The Ice Emperor commanded. He followed Vex and the Samurai to the throne room. On the way there he spotted a glimpse of his reflection in the ice. A titanium face was staring at him, but it had its hair up in a ponytail and was dressed in purple. That was impossible. The Ice Emperor was the only one in the palace with a titanium face, and his face was covered with the armour he took from those who defied his rule.
“Here is the traitor my emperor,” Vex announced. The Samurai were carrying an old man. The man scowled upon seeing the Emperor on his throne.
“You took everything from me. You destroyed my village,” The man yelled. “I was all that was left and you took me away. I will never surrender to a tyrant like you!”
The old man lunged forward but the Samurai held him back. Vex kicked the man over and forced him to kneel. He dug his boot into the back of the man’s head and snarled.
“My Emperor! Punish this boy for his insolence.”
The Ice Emperor stood up and aimed his staff, but then came the red circles. It covered the man’s face. The voice came back to taunt the Ice Emperor.
“My Emperor? What are you doing? What is taking you so long?” Vex questioned.
“Scanning complete. Showing possible results of the subject.” Different faces started to cloud the Ice Emperor’s vision. Faces of different old men, but the Ice Emperor did not know them. Was the old man playing tricks on him? One image caught his attention. It was an image of a man with grey hair and glasses. He had a falcon positioned on his shoulder. He was smiling and the Ice Emperor was drawn to that smile. He wanted to know more about this man. As he looked at the old man kneeled before him, he saw a resemblance.
“You must destroy him my Emperor!” Vex ordered. Yet the Ice Emperor was distracted. His grip on his staff loosened. The voice inside his head became louder.
“You were built to pr-“ the voice started to speak.
The Ice Emperor’s grip on the staff tightened and the voice ceased. He aimed it at the old man, but the old man had changed. He was wearing glasses now. There was a falcon was perched on his shoulder.
“I will never surrender to you!” The man yelled but his facial expression betrayed his words. He was scared. He looked up at the Ice Emperor with fear. Was the image in his head this man? Did this man know something that the Ice Emperor did not? He kept repeating the voice’s words in his head. What does it mean that the Ice Emperor was built? Built to do what?
How could the Ice Emperor know his purpose if he did not remember his life? His first memory was inside a dark cave. All he had was Vex and his staff.
“Please… you may have taken my family away but don’t take me too,” The man whispered. Tears escaped his eyes. The Ice Emperor gripped his staff harder and pointed its tip at the man’s face. He felt the power surge through his body, filling his head. The voice disappeared.
He fired his ice at the old man. For as long as the Ice Emperor could remember, his staff’s power did not have the power to harm him. He saw the effects it had on the people. It damaged their skin until it was as white as snow, it immobilised their joints and more importantly it made the people his. His to control and command. His to preserve under his rule forever. He made the man’s face no longer change to resemble the old man he saw. As the man was encased in ice, the red circles and pictures he was seeing vanished.
Ice can preserve memories, but the Ice Emperor had none to preserve. They disappeared, as though the fragile ice encasing them shattered, destroying the memories with them. Instead, the Ice Emperor used his ice to preserve his land, so that it can stay the same forever. Forever covered in the ice and snow that he created.

just constantly thinking about percy telling vex that he’d like to think they’re all better than they think they are (except her brother, of course) . constantly thinking about when vex tells percy he’s a good man and he gets awkward and flustered and returns that she’s a good woman and when she gets as awkward and flustered he goes “see. it’s not very nice is it.” percy shouting to ripley that he forgives her and vex carves forgive into the wood of her bow. vex tells percy to take off his mask and percy comes across vex in tears and scrubbing at her armour. god. the campaign starts and percy is making arrows as flirting and getting kisses in return and the campaign ends and exhausted and knowing it won’t be a want that will be fulfilled percy admits he never wants to make another weapon and vex equally exhausted affirms that he’ll never Have to. and god . god . opposites attract is great or whatever but the deliciousness of dynamics where the characters hold up a mirror to one another where they get to shed the burden of self and see someone Like Them as someone good or capable of being better and Falling In Love. and that love being a pathway to them coming to grips with their own image and their own capacity to be better. and that the fact that the person they fall for being someone so Familiar means that they see through each other’s shit. that percy sees that vex has fallen into the trap of Nobility tricking people into thinking that makes them inherently better and giving her the only whitestone title someone has to earn beyond selection or marriage or birth. that vex sees percy forgive ripley and discusses the importance of that choice but reminds him that it’s just as important that he forgive himself.

As much as I love AA4, the more I think about it the more I am just immensely bothered by the designs of Troupe Gramarye. Trucy having less melanin than either of her parents is something that’s brought up a lot, and yeah, fair, but what really irks me is that if you line up them up from good to evil (at least in terms of how they’re generally spoken about / viewed in game) it’s just light to dark:

I decided to go back and redo a VERY old idea for a comic thanks to the kind inspiring words of @ammo0648!!!
Please reblog this is my first time testing comic stuff!!!
[id; the image shown has five boxes, all outlined in black, with white borders. The first image is of Jay, dressed in blue, with and eyepatch, yellow skin, and brown hair, placing a hand on Zane, who has titanium skin with a yellow faceplate, silver hair, and blue eyes. Zane is looking scaredly at the distance while his hands are pressed together. the text reads "Zane, are you okay?"
The second panel is a cut-off version of the first panel, but the background has darkened. The text reads "Zane...?"
The third panel is of Jay, now encased in ice, instead grasping the shoulder of the Ice Emperor, who looks at his staff which he holds with two hands. His right arm is mostly encased in ice.
The third panel has the same image of the Ice Emperor, but now with General Vex with his hand on the Ice Emperor's shoulder. Vex has light greenish-blue skin, red sleeves, and silver armor. The text reads "Come now, my emperor."
The fourth panel is of a small area with a snowy hill bearing a snowy tree. There are large spikes of ice in the center, to indicate a recent attack that's taken place in the area. The text reads "We have work to do". /end id]

Obviously it would be way too many villains to juggle and thus give justice but could you fucking imagine if they brought back ALL of the old villains for Crystalized, even the ones who were already brought back in Day of the Departed?
We know Traveler's Tea can bring back the dead from the Departed Realm. But instead of Morro, who has already proven himself to be chill, maybe the Preeminent could be brought back in his place, since she was the true villain of Possession. The Preeminent could take a smaller minifigure form, or even be a miniaturized Lego build. Her being a lot smaller is because she got weaker from being dead longer, and Pixal defeating her.
Nadakhan gets brought back and it turns out he remembers all of Skybound, just as Jay and Nya do! Or he doesn't. Jay and Nya explain to the others that there was a whole season that just got undone, and given their experiences with time travel, it's not entirely out of the question for them to accept this. Nadakhan can't grant wishes anymore because that's a huge can of worms from a writing standpoint... Maybe the Overlord used technology to limit him, knowing what he was getting into because he heard the stories of Nadakhan. Or maybe his wish-granting was lost due to Djinjago's destruction, which is what Dragons Rising did. Again this is inconsistent lore but it's Ninjago so whaddya expect.
Yang is still haunting the Temple of Airjitzu, but as a chill and reasonable ghost. Maybe he gets crystalized (can ghosts be crystalized???), brainwashing and forcing him to the Crystal King's council.
Acronix and Krux are easy to explain, in fact the way they were left in canon is just begging for them to make a comeback, because if Wu did, why not them? Tbh a part of me thinks Machia is, in some ways, a better fit for this role; She much better represents her villain faction than the Time Twins do, since she's an actual Vermillion. Maybe all three characters can represent Hands of Time; Machia was also there with the Time Twins as part of Iron Doom, so again, easy explanation. The Iron Doom falls out of the time vortex and idk gets obliterated by the impact, maybe it lands on some explosive stuff, so only the Time Twins and/or Machia make it out alive; So there's no Vermillion army or time machine to rely on.
Iron Baron somehow survived getting encased in molten metal; I dunno how but he just did. He somehow broke himself free. Maybe his mechanical arm was still functional.
Should the Omega Oni be included? It might seem redundant with the Overlord there, but he technically WAS a big arc villain. It was a very short arc by Ninjago standards but whatever. Maybe having the Omega there could be used to contrast his existence with the Overlord's, and/or explain what the Overlord's whole relation to the Dragon/Oni divide even is.
Vex is retrieved from the Never-Realm. He's probably the least justified of all the villains to bring back given he's canonically a wimp, but maybe the Overlord selects him specifically for the psychological torment it'd bring on Zane. I like to think that Zane unsettles the Overlord because while it makes sense for the First Spinjitzu Master, and later his grandson, to defeat him... By comparison, Zane is a nobody in the eyes of the Overlord, just a master of another regular element, no more special than the rest; And yet he still beat him, put the Overlord down longer than Lloyd even did. So he's scared of Zane deep down, and he's using Vex as a way to get back at him.
Unagami gets corrupted by an evil virus because the Overlord already has experience with hacking given his stint in Rebooted. Unagami might be a bit more problematic for censors because once the show starts depicting him as a literal child, it might make censors uncomfortable to have him getting beaten up under any context, even if he did re-assume his Prime Empire form.
Mammatus is... Well, he could easily be crystalized. But given how his character is a racial caricature, I wouldn't be surprised if Lego wanted to avoid touching his character anymore; I suspect he was written as an actually reasonable person to avoid unfortunate implications, even if Ninjago still ended up doing that in a different way. Tbh I wish Mammatus and the Keepers got better focus and writing, especially during Seabound, but I can understand why he'd be left out.
Kalmaar is dead, but so were the villains in Day of the Departed. To break off on a side tangent, I'm surprised the writers killed off Kalmaar, despite Crystalized and its villains-returning gimmick being right around the corner. Given Vangelis and Aspheera were merely imprisoned, it'd have been easy to just have him be imprisoned, but I guess they didn't want to bring him back? But yeah, if you can bring back the dead by opening a portal to the Departed Realm with Traveler's Tea, then that opens up for a lot of villains to come back pretty easily.
So with all of these explanations in mind, our list would include;
-Samukai
-Pythor
-Kozu
-Cryptor
-Chen
-The Preeminent
-Nadakhan
-Yang
-Acronix and Krux
-Harumi
-Iron Baron
-Omega
-Aspheera
-Vex
-Unagami
-Vangelis
-Mammatus
-Kalmaar
-The Overlord
Yeah, I left out the Mechanic and Mr. F. Mr. F was kind of a useless addition since he wasn't actually Mr. E, meaning the writers didn't bring back the dropped Echo Zane plotline. And unlike Mr. E, who had an actual presence and menace, I kinda forgot about Mr. F a lot of the time, and Harumi better represents the Sons of Garmadon. I also left out the Mechanic because he isn't really a major arc villain, just a recurring thug. Tbh I'd replace him with Soto, who could represent the first half of S2, and whose pirates are an actual existing faction with continued relevance, and even defeated Nadakhan!
Also, I’d like to think Zane’s Ice Emperor persona makes an actual dramatic return and not just as an ineffectual gag, like maybe he has to use the scroll of Forbidden Spinjitzu to combat the Vengestone army, and seeing Vex again could trigger the past. It’s only for like one episode because we need Zane, but it’s a villain cameo for the arc where all the villains return.
But yeah, if we keep out Soto and Machia, that still brings us to 20 villains to juggle. Which is why this never could've happened. But I can dream, right? Writing a version of Crystalized that includes all of these characters and gives them some actual characterization and dynamics would be a Herculean feat.
(Now imagine a story that brings back all of these villains AND the ones from Dragons Rising…!)
