adults are so starved of playing pretend and indulging in imagination and fantasy and it genuinely harms us. reconnecting with spontaneity, play, joy, sincerity, genuine feeling, and doing inner child work, are really the best ways you can treat yourself — doing work to heal this as an adult.
all work and no play makes jack a dull boy. and the bastards like it that way (and those who bought into it and don’t know better). don’t let them have it.

Have this old doodle I made a few years ago now that Wonka is getting closer and closer to the big screen-!
I should draw all 3 of them in a timeline (I have a lil AU thinky thought idea of Johnny Wonka being a younger emo/goth phase to Gene Wonka, and now we’ll also have an even younger Timothée Wonka to work with-!!!!! Humble beginnings or something!!!!! I’m very excited!!!!!!!!!!)

I believe that most Tumblr Sexy men are to some extent derived from Willy Wonka (Gene Wilder's version in particular) and yet somehow Willy Wonka is not a Tumblr Sexy Man. Are we stupid?

Ok tumblr friends. I’m trying to spend less time on the internet these days, and I LOVE reading non-fiction books, but trying to find recommendations for new books is a nightmare. Any time I try to look up good new non-fiction books the results are all like “would you like to read an autobiography of Paul Newman or New Reasons We’re All Doomed” and that just. Doesn’t Work for Me. So I’m asking for recs here. I’m open to books about literally any field or topic. Only caveats are that hard sciences have to be on a level I can understand as a humanities person, and medical stuff can’t be too gory (ie I loved Siddhartha Mukherjee’s The Gene and The Song of the Cell, but can’t stomach The Mother of all Maladies). And nothing TOO miserable, but I have a fairly high tolerance for historical stuff. I’m particularly fond of micro-history and books that delve into multiple overlapping topics.
As a sampling, here are some books I’ve read and particularly enjoyed in the last two years:
Prairie Fires: The American Dreams of Laura Ingalls Wilder by Caroline Fraser
The Cooking Gene by Michael Twitty
The Gene: An Intimate History by Siddhartha Mukherjee
Song of the Cell by Siddhartha Mukherjee
On Savage Shores: How Indigenous Americans Discovered Europe by Caroline Pennock
Fifth Sun: A New History of the Aztecs by Camilla Townsend
The Five: The Untold Lives of the Victims of Jack the Ripper by Hallie Rubenhold
The Last Days of the Incas by Kim McQuarrie
The Dream and the Nightmare: The Story of the Syrians who Boarded the Titanic by Leila Salloum Elias
Life on a Young Planet: The First Three Billion Yeats by Andrew Knoll
Salt: A World History by Mark Kurlansky
The Food of a Younger Land by Mark Kurlansky
Mastering the Art of Soviet Cooking by Anya von Bremzen
Jesus and John Wayne by Kristine Kobes du Mez
Kingdom of Characters: The Language Revolution that made China Modern by JIng Tsu
The Last Island: Discovery, Defiance, and the Most Elusive Tribe on Earth by Adam Goodheart
Entangled Life by Merlin Sheldrake
National Dish: Around the World in Search of Food, History, and the Meaning of Home by Anya von Bremzen
The Horse, the Wheel, and Language: How Bronze-Age Riders from the Eurasian Steppes Shaped the Modern World by David W. Anthony
The Wager: A Tale of Shipwreck, Mutiny, and Murder by David Grann
Fire away!

“He’s a craftsman. He comes on, he has all this stuff he’s got to do. He’s got to learn all these lines, he’s got to learn all this choreography [and] he’s got to sing. He also has to be the life and soul when he’s the character. Timothée never had a moment-you’d almost expect it-where [he said] ‘I can’t do this anymore or I got to go off..’. He’s always there available to us laughing and sort of keeping it going. He crafted a character. That sort of just felt like him. Brilliant.”-Paterson Joseph
“Yeah and there’s not many people who can combine that skillset. There’s some parts where you can kind of cast any actor. There were such specific demands that very few people are going to do all of those things to such an incredible standard. He’s an insane talent.” -Matthew Baynton
“You can absolutely see him growing into that character (Gene Wilder’s version of Wonka) He’s a rare one.” -Paterson Joseph (via Radio Times)

In what order is ur fav Willy wonky?
Omg Kit- You can't just put me on the spot like that!! /light-hearted
If I really HAVE to choose from the films, it'll have to be Timothée Wonka - Johnny Wonka - Gene Wonka.
Info-dump below:
I grew up watching and getting obsessed with Willy Wonka through Johnny Depp from Charlie and the Chocolate Factory (2005). I literally have watched that movie at LEAST 60 times and it's one of my favourite favourite films ever!
(I might be the ONLY one having this opinion but-) That film is the most magical thing I have ever seen as a kid and Mr. Wonka is just the most relatable person to me. Also, how can you not love THIS face:
Tumblr media
That later introduced me to the book by Roald Dahl that the movie is based off of which I read religiously. I never knew about Gene Wilder's Willy Wonka from Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory (1971) until I started seeing the memes!
Tumblr media
Fast forward to recent times- To the Wonka (2023) trailer that dropped last June..I initially thought it was a joke because I just could NOT believe they would still make Wonka stuff let alone a film. But no, it was real (and I watched the trailer a good 20 times).
Went to the cinema TWICE because I was so absolutely blown-away by Timothée Chalamet...It felt like I was transported back to my childhood and all that whimsy came back to me at full blast.
He's so beautifully interpreted...EXACTLY how I imagined younger Willy to be like. Literally reignited my love for Mr. Wonka of 20 years! And the most important thing to me? It's so absolutely surreal to see a Willy Wonka that is the same age as me.
Tumblr media
After that, I finally got to watch Gene Wonka twice in the last 2 months after knowing about it for idk-how-many years. AND I love him so so much too..??
He's totally different to Johnny Wonka yeah but once again- What's not to love about and relate to an unhinged chocolate man that has murderous tendencies? >:3c
It was so fun to catch all the little details / references they put in the Wonka (2023) film from that movie! Also, it makes the transition from Timothée Wonka to Gene Wonka all the more tragic.
Tumblr media
Sorry for such a long post and info-dumping but I just really wanna talk about him and the amount of joy Mr. Wonka has given to me over the years!
Willy Wonka never steals but he has certainly stolen my heart. ♥

In the lead-up to the Ladies' submission form going live I was so hype to enter Ingrid Pitt, only to check IMDB and realize that, while she does have a few credits in the mid-to-late 60s, most of the really iconic stuff that I would have wanted to highlight was 1970 or later. And now I wonder if it was a similar realization that kept Gene Wilder out of the Men's bracket.
Yes, I decided to keep out a few hotties because they were more known for their 1970s work. My cutoff is really actually kind of late, because the real division I try to mark with it is the shift from Classic Hollywood to New Hollywood, which is more amorphous but is generally agreed to have happened sometime in the 60s.

Made the ref sheet for my other main oc, a character who is a romantic asexual.
Tumblr media
So I'm going to edit this to explain the metrics a bit more.
*Name: Rei was created by rogue Japanese scientist Akira Watanabe, using the DNA of a deceased Vulpine (a race of sapient fox folk thought to be extinct) and his own genes, effectively creating a strange hybrid son. Legally, this would be his name (in western order) if the Japanese Government knew he existed.
*Nicknames: Americanized version of his first name, and Fox generally being what he's called by employees.
*Race: On account of being a human hybrid, he takes DNA from Dr.Watanabe, and immigrated to America, making him Japanese-American on his human side. His other half is a Vulpine, a race of sapient fox-men who lived on the Japanese isles thousands of years ago and potentially inspired the stories of the kitsune.
*Age: 21 as of 2024, thus being created in 2003.
*Gender: Male, biologically and identifies as such.
*Alignment: Chaotic Good. Ray is willing to do good things, even if it means breaking the rules or doing something risky.
*Job: Scientist who wants to follow in his father's/Creator's footsteps by uncovering secrets of the universe and contributing to the knowledge of humanity.
*Perception and Communication: Has decent sense, and a good communicator, but will sometimes doubt his senses or get nervous.
*Persuasion and Mediation: He can do a decent job convincing people to do stuff by pointing out pros and cons. Mediation is something he isn't great at because he doesn't like getting in the middle of a situation between other people that he's not already a part of.
*Literacy and Creativity: Dr.Watanabe gave Ray access to mountains of literature to learn how to read and absorb information from the world around him. His sense of creativity has blossomed as a result. He can think of many creative ways to solve problems at any given moment, and has been taught how to speak Japanese, English, and Chinese fluently.
*Cooking: Do NOT let this poor bastard cook! It will not end well!
*Tech savvy: Watanabe raised him surrounded by lab machinery, computers, and engineering tools so that he could take care of himself. This has led Ray to be able to efficiently repair most machines, operate with any type of computer, and code effectively.
*Combat: He was given some martial arts training by a local school, but he's still a bit physically weak.
*Survival: Again, given mountains of books and personal training by Akira have given him a good grasp on how to survive in the wilderness (or at least Hokkaido's wilderness) as well as being prepared for emergency situations.
*Stealth: His small size allows him to slink around without detection, but his bright orange fur and tendency to carry gadgets in his pockets can hinder this easily.
*Street smarts: Oof, he hasn't had a chance to socialize growing up, and only left the lab to run errands. So he's not fully familiar with the nuances of how humans behave. This especially hit hard when he arrived in America after Roman found him.
*Seduction: Infertile hybrid + asexuality means he struggles hard. Doesn't help that he's seen more as 'cute' rather than 'sexy', so it destroys any attempts at him being seductive.
*Luck: Isn't anymore or less lucky than the average person I suppose.
*Handling Animals: His fox appearance leads to most animals, especially dogs and cats, being scared or aggressive to him.
*Pacifying children: Children crying or screaming hurts his ears severely, so he refuses to assist in calming one down unless absolutely necessary.
*Strength: Not very physically strong.
*Dexterity: Great with rapidly typing, using weapons, and putting things together quickly.
*Health: Excellent care has led to him having a good body, but he's not going to take a lot of hits in a fight.
*Energy: Very energetic bundle of fur.
*Beauty: Some people find the curly fur on his face aesthetically pleasing.
*Style:...But he wears a lab coat almost 24/7.
*Hygiene: Very fastidious about his fur and how he smells. Being a fox though, he's naturally a little musty.
*Intelligence: Watanabe created him with a brain that can retain insane amounts of information and can learn at quick speeds. Therefore, he's highly intelligent as he knows a few languages, learned the sciences of Astronomy, biochemistry, mathematics, aerodynamics, and ballistics, and is a fan of old literature.
*Happiness: Being raised in an isolated laboratory has made him very self-critical and introspective. Being abruptly taken from his home country to America has also impacted his sense of self with the culture shock. He becomes more chipper when Roman lets him work in his lab and experiment with stuff.
*Spirituality: Raised without religion, Ray becomes agnostic after reading about things relating to the idea of a higher power. But he does no rituals or ceremonies, and attends no place of worship.
*Confidence: He's ready to take on the world and show how intelligent he is. And nothing can stop him.
*Humor: Akira entertained him with access to television, which helped him not be so far removed from the world outside the lab. This also led to him discovering comedy. Ray loves surrealist humor.
*Anxiety: It significantly spiked after Dr.Watanabe's passing and his subsequent kidna-immigration to America by Romanov. But after awhile, he settled into his new home and began to use the lab as his own, reminding him of the good ol' days.
*Patience: He feels like time is a valuable resource, so he refuses to be in a situation that doesn't need his attention.
*Passion: Should've been higher, because he's extremely passionate about science and changing the world for the better.
*Charisma: He knows some basic psychology about humans that he can exploit, but he's not a master of social cues.
*Empathy: This is where it gets kinda strange...Ray has a supernatural power. Referred to as the "Memory-Empath" skill, it allows him to see and feel the memories of others by making eye contact with them for an extended period of time. For example, looking into the eyes of a happy child with their father shows a memory of the child playing a game of catch with their father, and Ray can also feel the sun on the kid's face, the sense of approval from the father, the smell of the grass nearby. This has created a person who is very sensitive to the emotions of others, and he cares deeply for the welfare of his friends.
*Generosity: He's willing to give for a cause and donate things he doesn't need to someone who needs it more, but don't expect big handouts from him.
*Wealth: Not sure what to put here.
*Aggression: Not very aggressive, as he was raised to be very polite and well-behaved by Dr.Watanabe, who in his own right, is a great-grandfather. He's pretty old world.
*Libido: As stated before, being a sterile hybrid and asexual has led to him having a decreased libido. (disclaimer: I'm not saying that asexual people lack them, it's just difficult to turn him on)
I'll add more when I can, but I'm good for now.

Jewish Jamie Tartt reasoning:
In response to, “We're trying to figure out what the greatest ensemble of all time was. What do you think?” Jamie said, “Easy. Gene Wilder’s wardrobe in Willy Wonka.” This is from a clip of the gang preparing for the SAG Awards. Respect for Wilder and his artistry is a Jewish slay.
In S1E08, when discussing having gone to plays with Keeley, Jamie said, “They do all these emotional things, make you feel all these emotional ways, and then they get mad when you start trying to shout out and talk to them during a performance!” Yiddish theater went hard. The etiquette was different. Engagement from the audience was standard. Jamie behaving in this manner was just inspired by the ancestral instincts 💅
Other stuff I can't remember right now <3

❖-Corps | Head full of thoughts
Actual story stuff -Magneto governs over the island nation of Genosha, a safe haven for all Mutants, even the ❖-Corps members are welcome here. Currently, he is opposing the rising Fellowship of Humanity organization in the United States, a branch group of the Friends of Humanity with more of a theocratic agenda—based off the Moral Majority in a sense. His focus rests on the politicians like Allison’s father, who wish to push extreme legislation against Mutants in Montana, threatening to take action with his acolytes to put a stop to the impending oppression. -That and, due to Allison being a spokesperson for her dad’s campaign, gets a big stink eye from Magneto after she disappeared; When she manifested her X-Gene. -The Fellowship works in the interests of a broader organization known as Armageddon. They are a terrorist group with the desires of ‘purifying’ humanity on a global scale, but of course, they intend to do this by making imperial forces work in their favor. -Magneto is seeking Allison to make a bargain with Richard Natus: Her safe return in exchange for eliminating his Anti-Mutant legislation, or to be met with forced resistance and Allison kept as a political prisoner. -Yeah, the US/UN ain’t too happy about it. They step up to say they’ll fire on Genosha if Magneto even tries to lay a finger on Richard. -Charles Xavier is in a race against time to reach Allison before Magneto does. He is able to locate her through Cerebro in order to warn her and guide the youth, and Logan is not too happy about being found by Charles after requesting the team leaves him alone in the fallout of his major incident. Ya know, to create more tension. -Logan and Allison had taken refuge in the Canadian wilderness since that’s where Logan was staying inside of his RV. The two butt heads due to their clashing ideologies, but eventually have to suck it up and work together to help her control her new powers, without being disgusted. -Kikyo Mikage works under Magneto as one of his acolytes, but only kills if there is honor in the task he’s assigned. Kikyo is willing to use violence to deliver justice and that’s something he really values in Magneto. Kikyo can finally live as himself in Genosha instead of living in the shadows of Japan’s society. Though he finds it incredibly dishonorable that Magneto would weaponize the wellbeing of a child to achieve his objectives, which ultimately leads him to join Logan. -Oh yeah should mention that Armageddon is running science experiments to artificially create an Omega Class Mutant as a weapon to take down the world’s strongest Mutants, basically what they were trying to do with Deadpool in X-Men Origins Wolverine, but actually cool. The Mutant is called Magnum Opus. I’m a fan of puns, you see.
Side notes -If Wanda and Pietro get involved in this, they are both going to be Mutants and brown skinned. I MAKE THE RULES!!! -Anyway uh still working on who else I want as Magneto’s acolytes lol -Sometimes I refer to Allison as “Allen”. It’s her self-imposed disguise name which Logan makes a joke about it being a boy’s name. -Genosha is definitely stockpiling on weapons, no doubt. -Allison borrows one of Logan’s shrunken down suits to help with her Mutation! It’s blue in contrast to his red. Logan gets his own category -He refers to large sections of Canada as Sectors. It’s likely this stems from his time working under Alpha Flight, and the Canadian Government before joining the ❖-Corps. -He’s managed to keep a majority of his old suits with him, as he believes that it’s the only solid part of his history he can look back on. Perhaps not as himself, but as Wolverine. -Anyway the reason Logan is at a low point in his career is bc the last mission he was on involved him unwillingly going on a Berserker Rage that resulted in a destructive rampage and the stabbing of his teammate and Girlfriend, Storm. During his rage, she took charge of the situation to lure Logan away from civilians and attempt to subdue him with the other ❖-Corps on duty. It worked at a cost. -The best way to protect those he cares about is at a distance, though that doesn’t mean he’s not going through an extreme heartache with likely losing Ororo. -Maybe she shouldn’t have told Logan that if he’s going to use his claws on anyone to them on her. Bad oversight. /HJHJ -I didn’t want her to just be Logan’s love interest in this, she’s a hero too ya know! She was doing her damn best to save whoever she could in the onslaught and even put her own life on the line. -Logan has nightmares about killing the rest of the team, and hates that they don’t put up much of a fight to stop him. -As you can imagine, he’s not too happy to be stuck with some teenager off the side of the road. Worse is that Logan knows exactly who she is as a political figure, and how dangerous he is. The initial thought was to find her somewhere safe and tell her to scram, but outside intervention damns him. -So funny thing, turns out he and Allen have a lot more in common with their struggles than they thought; Runaways who’ve done awful things they can’t take back, while struggling to understand their true nature.
Uh yeah well that ended up being a lot lolol Feel free to leave suggestions, I’d love some outside feedback!!

if someone was to write something about kon using one of your favorite headcanons... what would be in the top 3 things youd want to see someone else write?
OKAY lessee. first off here is my general manifesto on how to write kon ldkfjdlk which is mostly based on canon, not getting into headcanons, but includes just... a lot of stuff people writing fics with him in tend to get wrong imo (making him stupid, bungling his relationship with clark for drama, etc).
i'm really REALLY picky about kon fics. if they add in contrived ooc "kon has beef with clark" angst i'm gone. if they spell his name "connor" i'm gone. if they refer to him as a "clex baby" or lean into geoff's "lex luthor calls kon his son" thing, or any of the stupid "some genes are evil" shit, i'm gone. if they make up blatantly false assumptions about his history without fact-checking any of it (like, assuming he's never gotten sick, or that he's a playboy who loves to sleep around, etc), i'm gone. there is a reason i asked people not to send me fic recs unless we're friends and they know what i like, and it's that i basically don't want to read it unless the author actually has an idea of what they're talking about. which i know might sound harsh but like,,, oh well. if it sounds harsh it sounds harsh.
BUT all that being said!!! as for my favorite headcanons, what i'd wanna see shine really depends on the context i think but i can list a few fav hcs in general?? (<- massively overthinks this kind of thing. sorry. can't help it)
genderqueer gay man kon who struggles for a HOT minute with the idea of fabricated attraction and comp het being behind his early relationships.
guy who loves fibercrafts thanks to ma :) she introduced him to the idea of crocheting and later knitting as ttk practice, and then he got into sewing, lacemaking, etc. he can control a lot of moving parts and it's very cool to watch!!
krypto is his emotional support superdog. (this one is basically canon but still. its important to me.)
ma kent taught him to cook!
this is also canon but it's important to me and i must highlight it: he loves scifi. this is important. especially stories about bodily autonomy and "artificially-made" people. like clones and robots.
he gets migraines from overusing his ttk. of course, what counts as "overuse" gets to wilder and wilder points as he grows and his control and range increase.
he's very particular about his hair routine.
acts of service is one of his biggest love languages.
this is so many more than three already. i am so sorry. i will stop now but omg... man did you know. i like kon :) ty for the question it made me think for a bit!!
