Law's mother folded his fingers around the coin—a piece of copper, not worth much, except for the fortuitous square hole in the middle. "Keep hold of that," she said. He'd unfurled his fingers and she turned the coin in his palm. Streaks like whitebait flitting upstream hadn't marred his skin yet. "It'll help you focus." Lifting the coin and peering through the square, she blinked against the room's light.

I like the whitebait line. I debated including or cutting it so many times. I'm glad I kept it. That whole Law section isn't in the zine, btw, and maybe for the better. I dunno, story might be a bit busy with his scenes, but I like it.

A beetle scuttled across the greenery away from the shadow of the small body falling to the lawn. Granules of dirt and blades of grass pushed into Rosinante's mouth as a human smashed a staff across his back. He needed one of those bubble helmets to help with breathing more than anything, but they'd left them all at home. They'd never used them anyway. But maybe if they had, his throat wouldn't be a mess of snot and bile and salt. A bone cracked, arm or skull, not his own. Doflamingo's howls and curses punctuated the dull lift and fall of a body kicked for sport. After they'd paid the price for stealing bread, the brothers limped home, Doflamingo's good arm slung around Rosinante's shoulder. Rosinante's hand slipped on the doorknob. Rancid air rushed to meet Doflamingo's angry breath, wet against his brother's neck, as they stepped inside their hovel. Shaking, Rosinante paused by the entrance to pull a moth-eaten pouch from a splintered recess. Sleep would ease his brother's bruises and tremors; turning the coin, would ease his own.

So this one is kinda interesting, because it's very different if you include all my works (207 thus far (soon 208) and I'm not done transferring everything from my FFN days) compared to my One Piece offerings, which is what you, my specific friend, are most familiar with. Under all stories my list is:

That's... a difference. The first list is pretty clear that I've done a lot of prompts with plenty of fluff, angst, and AUs. The second focuses in on those AUs. I do have a lot of non-searchable tags in the more recent offerings, which affects things. They're both pretty spot-on, though playing around with my filters brings surprising stuff in many of the categories.

I do not decide what I write. God decides what I write. Sometimes He leaves it to my brain. That's usually a disaster.

15. What's your favorite AU that you've written?

I love all my AUs what are you talking about...

If I had to pick one I think my favorite right now is a tie between little seagull, little seagull, where shall you go? and Adventures with the Denizens of 1000 Sunny Rd, just because they're both really fun for completely different reasons. One's just the Great Dilfening of Trafalgar Law in its varied forms and the other is Modern pseudo-Midwestern American AU w/Sunny as a sus af party house in rural suburbia that totally isn't based on my local metro area what are you talking about. Both torture Law though, and that's what counts. :D

42. Have you ever received a comment that particularly stood out to you for whatever reason?

A comment that stood out? Well, I think comments that stand out to me are usually the long ones, as well as the ones that end up in long-winded conversations and exchange of fandom squealing. While I've gotten some in recent years, I cannot express how it was very different back in the heyday of my years mainlining FFN. So, like, 2004-2010, I'll say. Those were really good days, and people loved commenting/reviewing! There were still lurkers, obviously, but there was way less commodification of fandom like we see now. It's definitely not a "fandom old yells at teens" thing because I know it's not necessarily fandom's fault for the shift and is instead the corporate end that has trained us (especially newer fans) to treat media and fandoms alike the same one would cheap paper towels, but that's not what fandom is, and oh would you look at that I strayed from the topic.

A missing scene from Double-Date From Hell? Well then, don't mind if I do...

At least he was in scrubs and a doctor’s coat, making it a little less likely he’d murder them. “Didn’t you teach the little shit not to jaywalk?” “Jaywalking is the least of our worries right now,” Cora replied, his eyes following his son as he disappeared into the restaurant. “What if they see right through us?” He worried his hands as he grew progressively more fidgety in the passenger seat. “They’ll be too off-guard to think that,” she replied. From her vantage point, she could see the kid walk to the back corner of the seating area and slide into a booth, face getting real close to someone with very orange hair—must’ve been Nami. “Come on—where’s your sense of humor? yeah, i really doubt its a coincidence that they had hina, a military woman, say “dont ask, dont tell” in regards to a character who is canonically queer in the source material.

for those who dont know, dont ask, dont tell was a US military policy that, quote, “prohibited military personnel from discriminating against or harassing closeted homosexual or bisexual service members or applicants, while barring openly gay, lesbian, or bisexual persons from military service… The policy prohibited people who "demonstrate a propensity or intent to engage in homosexual acts" from serving in the armed forces of the United States, because their presence "would create an unacceptable risk to the high standards of morale, good order and discipline, and unit cohesion that are the essence of military capability".”

this one got my brain working because there's such a massive shift in doflamingo's style after he leaves his family. and judging by the way other wealthy/royal characters dress in one piece, it doesn't seem like he's buying whatever the one piece equivalent of luxury brands are, either. i guess a kinda sad but interesting interpretation that comes to mind is that by dressrosa, his style is really heavily inspired by the way he dressed as a teen on the streets. aspiring to wealth but too distant from it to really Get how to dress "rich," probably stealing a lot of his clothes or buying from pawn shops n shit.

so tl;dr he's reached a point now where he could obviously afford to pick up classier pieces but doesn't, because his current level of flamboyance is his way of showing loyalty to the people who raised him & the (as he sees it, lol) history of adversity he shares with his family.

🍫 a headcanon about food

he doesn't cook but making sure people are healthy and well fed is definitely one of his love languages. to this day he takes a lot of pride in his attempts to take care of rosi when they were little, and so there's this very physical, childish element to the way he loves people. like a little overly concerned with bare physical needs, food and sleep and such.

not really into cats or dogs (doesn't like how they leave hair everywhere). probably collects exotic birds and reptiles. i like to imagine him having an aviary somewhere in the palace.

journal update!!

i've taped the edges of the pages to prevent papercuts XD also to add some pizazz of course. i'm not nearly as good at this as a professional (my mother) so bear with me, i know it's not the prettiest. i'll just show off a few spreads with some fanart i've included so far!!

first off is this little page spread. not totally sure what i'll do here yet. something mingo themed i'm thinking. i found some pink feathers to stick in there, and some birdcage tape to put on the edges. i have more feathers to use too, but they’re either white or pink, so i’ll try and dye them black.

next we have a very bright spread that i thought would perfectly fit this commission i requested from @flashily!! he looks so good in here omg. i'm probably going to write or doodle something in the white margins above and below.

the lovely @jemichiart was kind enough to gift me a whole bunch of cora prints with an order, so i've been putting them to good use! i've got two of them here on display. not totally sure what i'll do on the patterned pages across from them, but i'm vibing with the potential here.

lastly i have some zine stuffs!! this corabelle sticker is from the shore leave zine i believe, and it's like... my favorite thing ever. (thank you so much for gifting it to me, @ensignsenna!!!) i'm definitely going to write some lines from my favorite corabelle stories on these blank pages. maybe some doodles too if i'm feelin it!! and of course, the corazine fits nicely in the back of the book! i wasn't able to fit a pocket due to the structure of the cover, but seems like a rubber band is perfect for holding it in place! i'm going to see if i can find a nicer one somewhere, maybe something red/white/pink/black. the green is kind of random XD but for now, it works!

A surprisingly popular ship considering they never interacted, but I see the appeal. Both former Marines, both loving and caring adoptive parents.

Two of the best parents in One Piece, imagine if they both lived and raised a happy little mixed family together.

Best adoptive Dad + Best adoptive Mom. I think they would vibe.

Cora is Bell-mere's malewife failure and she loves him. She enjoys making him flustered and tripping him up. He is just heads over heels in love with her, he loves her so much Just the thought of Bell-mere making a man who's twice her size completely melt for her fills me with joy. They were both apart of the Marines and ended up adopting children while on the job. I'm not exactly sure who died first but learning about your lover's death (if it wasn't covered up) is amazing angst potential. They're watching over their kids in the afterlife together.

Dead serial adopting Marines smokers, what else is there to say?

hi i’m back with my corabelle agenda. these two are a match made in heaven. literally. they have so many narrative parallels, it hurts. they both sacrificed themselves for their adoptive kids’ longevity, they’re both former marines who deserted their positions in order to give these kids a better life. they were both killed by a flintlock, and their last words to their kids were “i love you.” !!! it’s uncanny!! they could have known each other when they were marines, too! bell-mere is just one year older than rosinante. they were from different blues, but there’s a chance they could have run into each other or even trained together for a period of time. bell-mere would be the perfect friend for a young rosinante who’s preoccupied and stressed over his brother. in terms of personality, that’s where we get some of that juicy opposites-attract theory into play. they do have a lot in common tho! some common flaws, (hotheaded, a bit irrational, impulsive), and some common strengths as well, (determined, fearless, values the strength of a smile)! but otherwise, bell-mere isn’t afraid to lay the flirt on and seems a bit more extroverted, where rosinante is a little more reserved and keeps a very small circle of friends, (literally one and it’s sengoku). someone direct like bell-mere could easily draw him out of his shell, and someone down-to-earth and occasionally goofy like rosinante could help keep her grounded.

Both marines with rough lives who seemingly picked up children when they weren’t expecting it. Bellemere would make a great mom to Law and Corazon would make a great dad to Nami and Nojiko. Both of them would bond over the bullshit of the world!!

hey, hey, congrats on 100 fics!! that is so impressive what the hell. i think someone already mentioned this but i just can't get enough of the way you write dofladile. *chef's kiss* you were one of those authors who inspired me to put on my big boy pants and start writing on ao3 myself. ALSO you don't know how insane that is to hear--god, it took me so much... I had to draw up soo much will (and indifference tbh...! tossing things out and then refusing to look at them is how I get by without dying of embarrassment) ... I've kind of discovered that making things and putting them out there is good for you; Obviously I write for myself first and foremost and always will, but it gives a whole new dimension to the way you think of your work and your ability when you contextualize things as like. possible objects of joy for someone else. because it's simply not a possibility you can logically rule out no matter how much you hate something lmfao!

That's my experience and perspective, though, so it may not be applicable to your mindset jdh however you're writing and thinking of it, I hope you keep up with it for so long as it fulfills you!! :D

It's so wonderful to get the recognition. No matter how many times I say NO GARCHU UNTIL YOU COMMENT the comments are few and far between (although, not as low as on Clione's fic, but he stole the idea from me, so that's fair, isn't it?!?). <-- That's called an Interrobang, or maybe the other way around, and No, Captain had to tell me, it doesn't mean sex between species...or in Wano prisons (*not a spoiler cos it's fiction!). Learn something new in Bepo fanfic world everyday! Now, onto your asks.

58. what is the last thing that a fic made you google when you were writing it?

How deep penguins can dive and for how long, say, if they were an Emperor Penguin (not that there are any Emperors on our crew—and maybe only two leaders, if we're being honest) and, some can dive to about 565m which is deeper than the Tang usually goes!

Some hold their breath for just shy of thirty minutes too! So, if you needed to catch a bird, say, for sustenance purposes, considering that some Minks that might resemble polar bears can only dive to about 13 metres at a stretch and only hold their breath for a minute or two, it's best to nab those kinds of meaty birds on the surface. Purely for research purposes.

65. what is your favourite title for a fic you’ve written? 

I don't really have a favourite but: Beptober Day 8: Mutual Mastication seemed to get a lot of attention! (Like cows do it, seems pretty common, and better than that regurgitation thing penguins have going on. But, y'know, different courses for different horses, I guess).

71. how do you balance writing and life? do you ever feel overwhelmed by the amount of writing you have to do? I find that if I get overwhelmed, I get the crew to drop me on some ice and I wait by a seal's breath hole, and I wait for them to poke their head through the ice, cute whiskers quivering, and, then, if I'm fast enough, I catch them and enjoy them à la sashimi style, but without the filleting and with all the fur. Crew tends to leave me alone for a while after that. My head's also wonderfully clear, and sometimes I can clack out 10,000 words without knocking over an ink pot once, or accidentally unplugging the word processor.

76. what is one essential thing to remember when writing a villain? 

That they wear pink feathered coats.

OR, y'know, have bright red hair.

91. how has your writing style changed over the years?

I think I might be one of a kind and I'm thinking of patenting the Bepo Brand™

How about a bit of a Bellazón-related wip that I got just kind of sitting there on the ever-turning rotisserie in my brain? 147 words; takes place obviously in an AU where this can happen; slightly edited so it WILL be different in the final version but I'm not telling you HOW.

“Where…” Rosinante sat up and wiped the tears and snot and ruined cosmetics from his face onto his shirtsleeve. “…where is Nami?” “Arlong has her,” the girl squeaked. “He saw one of the maps she can draw and kidnapped her.” “She can draw maps?” “Yeah; better than adults, even though she’s younger than me.” She looked at this strange man slumped into the couch and shivered. “How… how do you know Bell-mère…?” “We used to… work together.” “You used to be a Marine?” He paused and licked his lips. “Yeah. I was, but… I don’t know if I can ever call myself that again.” “Good,” the girl said, resolute. “Marines are useless. Can you get my sister back from Arlong?” Rosinante let go of Bell-mère’s hand and gently held the girl’s face as he looked her directly in the eyes. “Tell me where I need to go.

ever heard of golden retriever boyfriends? yeah. yamato puts them all to shame. big, gentle, energetic, effortlessly funny, and so, so loyal. from the moment the two of you first meet, he's doing the absolute most to impress you and make you feel comfortable: bouncing between the exhibits, sharing every fun fact he can think of, all the while asking you questions about yourself.

he's very much a stream-of-consciousness, unfiltered kind of guy, easily flitting from topic to topic (what are your hobbies? what was your dream job as a kid? got a favorite animal?). he's just naturally energetic and curious that way, but if he senses it's overwhelming you, he's also got the self-awareness to tone it back a little.

honestly it's kind of easy to forget that you're on a date with him. not in a bad way! he's sweet and attentive from the very beginning--total potential boyfriend material. he's just sooo deeply guileless that he isn't really sure how to make the leap from "hanging out as friends" to "flirting." yamato's more than happy to carry the conversation, but if you decide to progress the relationship further at some point, you're probably the one who's gonna have to make the first move.

by the time you've made it through the museum and his energy's worn off a bit is when yamato's gentlemanly side comes out. it's not that he wasn't attentive before, but when his mind is more settled his eyes are ALL on you. definitely offers to walk you home and probably lets you borrow his coat/hoodie if you want. partially because it's the considerate thing to do and partially because he's almost 9' tall and there's definitely something gender affirming about seeing your partner drowning in your clothes.
