The vast majority of these are fix-its. Some are time travel/time loop. Most revolve around PT, TCW, and OT characters. A lot are also gen, as it turns out.

The order of the list has nothing to do with how much I enjoyed each fic, because I've enjoyed them all in different ways, for different reasons! Fics that seem to be really popular have been placed toward the bottom of each section, because I'm guessing they already appear on a lot of other rec lists. Aside from that, the order is pretty much random.

To Another Place & Time; G, 39.1k. Vignettes through the years in an AU where Anakin didn't fall, and Padmé lived, but Palpatine escaped and continued to pose a threat to the galaxy. Nostalgic and sad and happy and beautiful!

Finding Obi-Wan; T, 86.9k. Obi-Wan, having disappeared from the Jedi Temple, wakes up with no idea who he is or what the Force is and gets pulled into all manner of messes (yes, Hondo gets involved, of course he does), while Anakin refuses to believe he's dead and struggles to find him.

Blood and Copper Oxide; T, 36.3k. "Luke Skywalker and Darth Vader crash land on a planet that shouldn't have existed. Luke can't escape Vader and survive the planet at the same time. Darth Vader can't capture Luke and fight off the innumerable threats the planet sends his way. They might have to work together instead." Very cool story!

The Skywalker Secret; T, 39.8k. Anakin time travels back to the Clone Wars following Endor. The story is told mostly through the eyes of perplexed observers, and has an excellent ending; it's very satisfying and lovely! (Has one complete and one WIP sequel)

The Galaxy Revolves at a Million Miles a Day (Around Me); T, 55.0k. After dying on Executor during the battle of Endor, Piett finds himself trapped in a time loop which he must break. I'm a sucker for time loops, and this is such a good one!

The Game is Not Played Alone; T, 75.1k. Obi-Wan Winter Soldier AU.

Lunches at Anakin's; T, 93.1k. After Endor, thanks to the Force's meddling, Anakin finds himself alive but stuck on Tatooine, where he ends up reluctantly mentoring a Force-sensitive girl. (Technically complete, but part of a series which is not complete.)

(Tooka)Cat Scratch Fever; not rated, 17.7k. Luke adopts a tooka which turns out to be his father, under a curse by Sidious. (I would probably rate this one as T.)

In the Tall Grass; T, 18.5k. "After a failed order 66, in which many Jedi still died but the Sith were defeated, an exiled warrior and a boy wander a distant planet and attempt to get along." This one is so cool, it has such a fairytale feel to it! And there's a sequel!

Shadows of the Future; K+, 129.3k. Obi-Wan dies on Mustafar and is sent back to TPM, where he bonds with Anakin and begins to change the future for the better.

Gut Feeling; T, 7.5k. Amusing little multichapter wherein Piett is assigned a new aide who goes by the name of Lucas Starkiller (who is clearly not Luke Skywalker, definitely not), and from there becomes embroiled in treason.

May Death Find You Alive; T, 11.0k. Anakin gets stuck in a time loop where Obi-Wan keeps dying.

Mirjahaal; T, 132.8k. Another lovely Wishful fic in the spirit of Empire Reimagined, involving favorite characters and somebody else who's a surprise!

The Exiled; T, 20.1k. "Leia has tried everything to help her baby son. She has turned to every expert on the Force she knows-- all but one. (Ben and Grandpa go camping)" (Visible to registered AO3 users only.)

Cloudy Symbols of High Romance; G, 22.1k. This one's a bit of a relict! Posted pre-AOTC, way back in 2001, it's a cool take on how Anakin and Padmé's AOTC-era reunion happened, and omg, it's so much better than AOTC. It's actually cute, and you can see why they like each other, and man does it make the knowledge of what's coming so much the worse.

Kintsugi; T, 16.7k. Quietly tragic, even though nobody dies and it's broadly a fix-it. Not a comfy fic, but one which is well done.

What Lurks in the Dark; T, 155.4k. "A simple mission to check out an abandoned weapons factory turns into a dangerous fight for survival. Trust is broken, loyalties will be tested, and dark secrets are brought to light. Because sooner or later, the truth always comes out."

All the Universe's a Stage; G, 19.9k. A Piett and Luke adventure!

The Beauty in the Beast; T, 46.1k. "When the Force decides it's had enough of Darth Vader and wants Anakin Skywalker back, it dumps his long-lost teenage son on his doorstep with an ultimatum: unless Vader renounces the Sith and turns back to the Light within three months, Luke will die."

Sibling Revelry; T, 24.9k. "After Bespin and before Endor, Darth Vader is shocked to discover that Luke and Leia are twins. Especially since Imperial Intelligence just told him that Organa and Skywalker are, erm, a tad closer than previously suspected..." A hilarious comedy of misunderstandings!

The Sith Who Brought Life Day; G, 13.3k. A rather entertaining take on how Vader found out who blew up the Death Star.

This Life of Ours; T, 53.9k. "On the run from the empire and the remaining Jedi alike, Vader must come to terms with his past and his future, all the while learning to care for the boy that is his only connection to his life as Anakin Skywalker." (Visible to registered AO3 users only.)

Teach the Padawan. Save the Galaxy.; series, T, 387.4k. 4 books complete, but the series itself is not complete. Ben Kenobi goes back in time and becomes Obi-Wan's master instead of Qui-Gon.

Legacy; G, 175.5k. Post-ROTJ Luke and Leia time travel to the Clone Wars.

Precipice; M, 231.7k. "An AU in which Anakin Skywalker does not follow Mace Windu and the others to Palpatine’s office after they leave to arrest the Chancellor. As a result, he doesn’t get that final push over the edge, and doesn’t Fall." Padmé and Anakin each raise a twin and work to bring Palpatine down.

Negative Static Stability; G, 8.1k. Vader and Leia meet when Leia is 5; lessons on the workings of ships ensue, along with some good old Artoo scheming. Adorable!

Bioethically Speaking, Mr. Sheev; T, 10.5k. The bureaucratic fallout and potential PR nightmare that result when a grad student follows up on some interesting records from the Grand Imperial Medical Facility.

Palpatine's Greatest Hits II: Imperial Boogaloo; T, 1.3k. Just Palpatine being salty. It's very fun! "Fortress Dramaticus" has got to be one of my favorite bits, coupled with Palpatine's ongoing disgust at its lack of shields and certain people's inability to learn certain lessons. And his disgust at Vader's Kenobi obsession. Okay, the whole thing is great. Go read it!

Dust to Dust; T, 4.7k. "Darth Vader goes back in time. The Galaxy is saved; he is not."

Amelioration; T, 8.2k. "A recently liberated Vader attempts to ameliorate the future by changing the past." A different sort of angle, and an interesting fic!

The Horrendous Space Kablooie; T, 6.2k. "9 year old Anakin wakes up on the Executor. Chaos ensues." Well worth reading! Can't say more because I don't want to spoil anything.

The Agony of Tarkin; G, 4.8k. "An extra in the Imperial Opera Company discovers he has been assigned the role of Darth Vader in its upcoming production of The Agony of Tarkin." Another hilarious fic in the vein of The Sith Who Brought Life Day and Accountant Non-Heroes of the Republic.

Accountant Non-Heroes of the Republic; G, 7.0k. "Palpatine makes a choice to hide his fiscal manoeuvres in the Financial Department. The Financial Department takes advantage of this lack of transparency to do whatever they want. This saved the Republic." It's always fun to watch Palpatine shoot himself in the foot, and all the better when it comes completely out of left field.

Out of Step; T, 4.9k. Nice little oneshot with post OT-era Obi-Wan and Anakin stuck into their TPM-era selves.

Tuning up your TIE-Fighter to prove you’re better than the bastard currently running the TIE-Fighter Program for fun and profit; G, 7.1K. "As a rule, Vader didn't really do anything with his social media account, but then the rant of some kid from Tatooine about the inefficiency of TIE Fighters began trending, the pilots and engineers on the Devastator started fixing their ships and Vader got invested."

Series

Take it from the top and try again; G-T, 191.0k, 2 works complete + 1 WIP. Post-ROTS Obi-Wan time travels to the prequel era.

Empire Reimagined; G-T, 388.4k, 10 works complete. A saga of Luke, Vader/Anakin, Piett, Veers, and Leia covering from ESB-era to post-ROTJ. Epic friendships abound!

Mythology; M, 41.0k, 2 complete. "In a universe where Darth Vader uncovered his lost twins and raised them in the heart of the Empire, Luke more-or-less accidentally instigates the most painful family reunion the galaxy has ever seen."

Puppet Kings; T-M, 18.8k, all complete. Really nicely done, dark oneshot trilogy about Luke, Vader, & Co. I'm not usually one for horror and tragedy, but I read the first fic in the series and didn't want to stop!

In the Midst of Darkness Lays a Sleeping Light; T, 26.0k, 3 complete + 2 WIP. Wherein Palpatine turns Vader into a dragon. (It goes great for both of them. Totally.) Angsty and enjoyable, and an interesting exploration of dehumanization/rehumanization.

Don't Look Back; M, 712.7k, 3 complete + 1 WIP. Leia gets sent back to AOTC-era, and omg is she a force to be reckoned with! Very detailed, very political series.

Multichapter fics that are incomplete but still appear to be alive as of now

Turning Point; T, 23.8k. After Vader dies on the second Death Star, he's sent back in time to the year 69 BBY, on Naboo, where he picks up an unfortunate barnacle in the person of the teenage Sheev Palpatine. Quite entertaining, and I can't wait to see where it goes!

The Good He Seeks; T, 70.1k. "After killing the Emperor, Darth Vader agreed to serve the fledgling New Republic and destroy the last true-believers of the Empire he had once helped create. But he's living on borrowed time." Though I do enjoy pure fix-its, there's just something that really gets me about fics that are fix-it-ish, but life is messy, the characters are messy, there are no easy answers or perfect solutions, and every positive development really feels earned. So far, this is one of those fics, and I'm loving it!

The Sleepover to Restore the Republic; T, 56.1k. This many Skywalkers, clones, and associated friends, relatives, and coworkers were never intended to be thrown together, and when they are, boy oh boy. Gloriously chaotic and funny. (Visible to registered AO3 users only.)

Nameless, on the Edge of Nowhere; M, 100.7k. Vader survives ROTJ, but both he and Luke made it out of the second Death Star via random hyperspace jumps in separate ships. After getting by for a time, the not-fully-Sith-but-not-fully-redeemed Vader ends up with the Rebellion, where Leia becomes his handler. Slow build, and a really rewarding read thus far! (Also, I love the OCs in this one; they all feel very natural and vivid, and like people in their own right.)

Multichapter fics/series for those okay with living on the edge (inconsistent updates, long hiatus, or abandoned)

Headaches; T, 31.2K. "When Luke overhears his aunt and uncle arguing, he follows old Ben to Daiyu. Skywalker shenanigans ensues." Oh my goodness, the pure child chaos that is in this fic, it's an excellent time. Hasn't updated in almost a year, but what's there is so good!

Balance on the knife edge; T, 136.6k. After dying on Malachor, Ahsoka time travels back to Mortis, during the Clone Wars.

The Thunder Answered Back; M, 13.1k. "Count Dooku survives his duel with Anakin Skywalker only to wake up as a captive in the Jedi Temple on the evening of Order 66 and the siege. Betrayed, maimed, and surrounded by slaughter on every side, he must choose his path forward - and choose it quickly. RotS AU." Featuring Jocasta Nu.

Synchronous; G, 67.9k. "It's the usual time-entangling fiasco: 'Find the disturbance. Rectify the wrong. Fix the anomaly. Bring balance to the past so the Force may be balanced in the future.' There is a slight miscalculation, however, and Luke Skywalker finds himself in the Clone Wars while having to masquerade in the body of his late father Anakin Skywalker. Leia and Han aren't so helpful either."

To Set Up a Sith; T, 35.2k. "Teenage Luke tries to help his unwitting Sith father make a friend, with a little help from his ghost mom and the Force." Interesting story with fun and sweet bits, and I'm super curious about how it will turn out if it's ever finished!

like a lazy ocean hugs the shore; T, 10.7k. After Vader kills him, Fox gets stuck in a time loop around the time when Fives is killed.

Living Every Day; T, 82.9k. "When Satine Kryze survives her encounter with Darth Maul, it changes the galaxy. But even more than that, it changes the lives of Obi-Wan Kenobi and the Skywalker family."

Dancing with Ghosts in Your Garden; T, 979.3k. Star Wars PT and TCW characters, but in a Hogwarts setting. It works surprisingly well! There's a little more teenage romance than is my personal preference, but it's a cool AU and quite long if you're looking for a fun, imaginative fic to absolutely bury yourself in for a while. (And it looks like Ahsoka might finally be entering during the next year of the fic!!)

What We've Become; T, 82.0K. "Darth Vader and Ahsoka’s fight on Malachor takes a different path, and Ahsoka actually is able to save her master. Or rather, she’s able to convince him to save himself. Diverges from canon in the last few minutes of Twilight of the Apprentice and goes increasingly AU from there."

Prompt: Here's a prompt: feanorian time travel au. But the priorities have changed. In the halls they watched Celebrimbor's torment. They received his spirit. And they watched it find no healing, year after year. By the time caranthir figures out a way to change the weave of time, they are all in agreement.

So, whatever time they arrive in, every son of feanor drops what they're doing and goes to rescue (/kidnap) Celebrimbor. (For context, celebrimbor does not, at this point in the timeline, need rescuing - the torture has not started.) The sons of feanor are united in this purpose. The valar did not know that the time travel was possible and don't know what they've done; as far as outside observers can tell, feanorian priorities all just…turned on a dime.

That's all exposition for the meat of this thing: celebrimbor being (lovingly, so lovingly) kidnapped and more or less held prisoner by his kin. They won't tell him why they're doing this and they won't let him go. He can't be properly angry because they're so careful of him, he can see their worry - but he's not free to go and they won't tell him why!

Kinda just want a glimpse into the emotional minefield a time travel fix it for celebrimbor would actually be. The scars of a thing that hasn't actually happened now still exerting their pull, if you understand me. Strange family fluff where the only person not traumatized by how celebrimbor dies is…celebrimbor.

gen feanor&finwe, fingolfin

Prompt: au where Feanor's insecurity and deep pain over the remarriage comes out in a different way: finwe is telling him about a cute moment between indis and fingolfin, trying so hard to include him in the family dynamic, and feanor just starts crying. The really ugly kind.

He's heartbroken, and he's never going to accept indis, and all of a sudden of that pain comes out.

Of course finwe will start crying, too… what he intended and what has happened are so far from each other and he doesn't know what to do. He loves all his children and always wanted a big family, but it seems everyone is walking around wounded due to his actions and he can't fix it. He can't regret his children by indis, but feanor's pain kills him.

It can be between them, or other people can be involved, like Fingolfin. I just want to see this family drama go in a more usual direction, rather than the kinslayings. Do not want character bushings of anyone; it's a sticky situation where a lot of people have a lot of very legitimate pain, but no one is acting maliciously. No incest. And please don't resolve it by having feanor view Indis as a mother. I think he could learn to stop solely blaming her for what was both her and finwe's decision, but she's never going to be his mother. And that's okay.

NALINA Stuns and Scandalizes Netisims With First Comeback Stage Outfit

While her music video for her first comeback single "Love Myself" was very dazzling and glamorous, NALINA gave a more chic feel in her comeback stage. Donning a @serenity-cc black off the shoulder sweater & matching black boots, but the more contentious detail is her @aharris00britney jean mini skirt.

Many thought the skirt was an inappropriate length and lamented over a perceived "lost innocence" of the 2nd Gen Sims-Pop idol. Being the maknae of legendary group Ki-Ti, she was always seen as a cute, pure idol. Her solo debut enforced this vibe with a wistful sound, short bob, and doll-esque styling.

From people simply being at the concept change to people theorizing at some sort of dark transformation, there is no shortage of disappointment.

However, "Love Myself" is still doing very well, outperforming her debut's initial reception in sales and initial chart performance. The song even performed a PAK like her debut and like her group is famous for doing 9 times in a row. So far, it seems like online discourse has also been dominated by overwhelming support. The criticism, while apparent, is not the majority opinion.

Netisims believe that the change in concept is exciting and enjoy the sassy, quirk-filled elements of this comeback. If you recall, the concept of the music video also garnered mixed reactions. However, people are referring to the contentious elements as eccentric and iconic.

god. kieran. kieran is so refreshing from a character perspective. kieran is like the anti-hop. it kind of feels like he’s the protagonist and we’re the classic jerk rival, doesn’t it? this guy clearly has Issues and i really like that, im enjoying this sort of “why can’t i beat you” rival trope that gamefreak’s been doing lately. they nearly did it with hop but with kieran they’re really going full in. the character arc that kieran went through in this dlc was actually difficult for me to watch, seeing this poor boy destroy himself mentally. the first time i battled him for the final time i actually lost, and i was hoping that he would get to keep ogerpon because altho shes cute and i adore her, i felt so bad. but ofc thats not the way the cookie crumbles. kieran is socially awkward, he doesn’t know how to communicate, and he’s never had a true friend. then florian/juliana comes along and suddenly there’s someone who seems to genuinely enjoy hanging out with him that isn’t, yknow, related to him. but then that person that he was so eager to trust goes along and begins befriending and helping a pokemon that hes adored all your life behind his back. i relate to kieran a lot and ofc yknow the absolute maniac arc hes about to go through is probably not healthy but i rlly hope this ends up being good for him. he idolized ogerpon because of how he related to her story, not because of the actual living creature she is. i wouldnt be surprised if it turns out he doesnt value his pokemon as actual living creatures either. i could see him being like a reverse silver, as he grows colder growing to not even care about his pokemon.

on the other hand, carmine! carmine was such a delight, i was genuinely not expecting to enjoy her as much as i did. sure, she also has Issues and has probably been a negative effect on her brother, but at the end of the day she is also just a kid. she probably has no idea what shes doing, and i dont think shed ever hurt kieran. she went through a lot of growth in the dlc and i can see her trying to become a better person with the help of florian/juliana and repairing her odd relationship with kieran.

also, it seems like she kind of has to play a parental role for kieran, as its implied that their parents arent around. thats another thing that separates kieran and carmine from siblings like hop and leon (and oh my god im just realizing all the parallels between hop and leon and kieran and carmine). its implied that the galar bros had a good childhood, and hops Issues dont start until hes set off on his journey and leon is a full adult with an actual life. with the kitakami siblings, if you read between the lines you can tell that theyve had a harder time growing up. with carmines comments on tourism and how it’s negatively effected their town and give her Trust Issues, that obviously fucked them both up a little, seeing that people only valued their hometown as an attraction, and that they themselves were a part of that attraction. and of course we dont know what the issue was with their parents. also, why are they going to school in unova? (side not oh my god it is so obvious that we’re going to get bw remakes in gen 9 or a legends unova game)

kitakami is such an interesting region. obviously its tiny, it has one town and then everything else is just untamed land. i feel like something Else is going on here. or maybe its just small idk

i love ogerpon a lot i think shes adorable and i love that we got to run around with her before she joined our team and it makes the whole “ten year old catches legendary thing” feel more realistic

also why are ogerpon and the loyal three legendaries i feel like they should be mythicals them being legendary feels Wrong

anyways these were my silly thoughts on the dlc and i hope kieran turns out to be the bb leagues champion (pulling a blue) and also i dont trust briar now time to finish my pokedex and talk to legends arceus pandering i mean perrin and if i see anyone call carmine a terrible person i will trade away your ev trained competitive team ok bye

Boruto Shipping Opinions

I’m gonna put a brief aside here to say two quick things to keep in mind before reading:

I am not going to go into great detail or analysis here because I’m holding off on that until the manga wraps up.

I am caught up with the manga, I am not caught up with the anime. I have watched up until the arc the new team 7 infiltrate a prison, the second chunin exams, and whatever clips/moments I’ve stumbled upon being discussed. I am not an avid fan, I do not know all the ins and outs of character dynamics, and I don’t even keep up with that part of the fandom. I have no horse in this race.

BoruSara

I don’t like this ship, and I don’t know if that’s an unpopular opinion. I’ll try to avoid saying “they have sibling vibes” or “they’re just friends” because, coming from someone who has used that excuse in the past, it is very difficult to explain/defend argument. So much so that now it just comes across as cheap to me.

I will, however, say that I don’t like it for the same reason I don’t like NejiTen. It comes across as “he was a boy, she was a girl. Can I make it anymore obvious?” It feels like it stems from the idea that boys and girls can’t just be friends. If the dynamic was introduced with an edge of romance (like how Naruto and Sakura’s dynamic was introduced with Naruto having a crush on her), maybe it would be a different story. But as of right now, it feels like the fandom reading into something that doesn‘t need to be read into.

KawaSara

I hate to say this, but I’m guessing this ship stemmed from SasuSaku fans reading them as “next gen SasuSaku”. Look, everyone can ship whatever they want or choose to refrain from shipping, but I’m sick of the fandom projecting old ships on new dynamics. I have seen BoruSara compared to SNS, NaruSaku, and SasuSaku (for some reason). I have seen BoruSumi compared to NaruHina. I have seen MitsuSara compared to SasuSaku and SuiKarin. I have seen KawaSara compared to SasuSaku. Every single time I thought to myself, “The manga starts with Boruto asserting that he’s not his dad and this isn’t his dad’s story.” I get that comparisons will naturally arise since it’s a sequel series, but these kids are not carbon copies of their parents and they don’t have the same dynamics their parents did.

Now that my rant is out of the way, I think a hypothetical child between them having black hair with pink highlights would be cute and that’s about it.

MitsuSara

I wish these two had more of a dynamic. Both characters have interactions with Boruto and clear dynamics with him, but they don’t really have much going on with each other. They both have recognizable personalities, but they mellow each other out whenever they interact and it makes them boring (I’m guessing Ikemoto isn’t interested in them together). They also only tend to talk to each other about Boruto (at least in the manga). Say what you want about them, but at least Sasuke and Sakura had a dynamic.

Anyways, funny ha ha, Orochimaru gets an Uchiha in the way they least expected.

MitsuBoru

Gayer than any of the Naruto dynamics and that is saying something. However, I struggle to like the ship because I’m just so confused.

First, why does Boruto have so many lancer/foil/rival characters. Kawaki, Sarada, and Mitsuki all act as lancers. I get that writing doesn’t have to be formulaic, but they aren’t even all lancers to each other, having dynamics that bounce off of each other, they’re just lancers to Boruto. At least for me, it’s already gotten really boring and ends in the three’s dynamics with each other falling flat.

Second, the sun and moon symbolism makes no sense to me as a writing decision. The obvious problem is that it’s redundant; it’s already been used for multiple Naruto dynamics. The less obvious problem is that it contradicts Mitsuki’s manga introduction. Mitsuki was introduced as the middle between Boruto and Sarada’s two extremes, taking up a role similar to Sakura’s in the og team 7. If he’s supposed to be the moon to Boruto’s sun, why is he introduced to us as the earth? The admittedly more minor problem that distracts me is that Orochimaru was the one that Mitsuki down this road. Why? Orochimaru wasn’t redeemed by Naruto and has never shown interest in him or this philosophy before now. My best guess is that they’re fascinated by Naruto’s affect on Sasuke, but that still leaves me with questions.

It makes me think that the writer didn’t have any ideas when they introduced these two.

BoruSumi

I don’t like how the fandom is making another love square, but I doubt there’s anything I can do to stop them.

This ship is boring because Sumire is boring. That one anime arc made her interesting, but it’s referenced and relevant so rarely that she goes back to being boring. I’d like this more if the story let Sumire be morally gray or treated her like a redeemed villain more. As of right now, I think the only leg the ship has to stand on is writing tropes and I do not care.

KawaSumi

This ship feels like the product of the same people who ship SasuHina/SasuIno/SasuKarin/KibaHina out of spite. My last post/reblog went into why this happens but the short of it is that it’s easier to ship something in peace if the biggest “threats” to it are paired together. Correct me if I’m wrong, but I have a feeling most KawaSumi shippers also ship BoruSara.

Please… just stop. If not for yourself, then for me. I’m already barely coping with how popular NejiHina is. Why have I seen this as much as I have??? This feels like a personal attack on my sanity. They’re siblings.

This is the section for all the ships I have little/no opinions on. I think MitsuCho is too boring for how popular it is, I think ChoSara should be more popular, I’m disturbed by all of the Eida x next gen ships because she looks and acts like an adult (at least how adults are portrayed in Boruto), and I’m surprised Code x Eida isn’t more popular, but I also think that Code has gotten the Kabuto treatment and isn’t very popular in the fandom.

The ships I haven’t mentioned I either have so little fucks to give or so little information on that I have ZERO thoughts about.

Next morning, Marinette walked down to an empty dining room. She awkwardly took a random seat and sat quietly for a few moments; she hoped that the family would join her for breakfast. After about 10 minutes she gave up waiting for them, “Um, Alfred?” she asked in what she assumed to be an empty room. Alfred, almost by magic, appeared before her with breakfast. 

“Good morning, Miss Marinette,” he greeted, “Today’s breakfast is an assortment of pastries and a cup of chocolat chaud.” 

“Thank you, Alfred, where is everyone?” Marinette asked as she gestured to the empty table.

“Ahem, Master Bruce is a late riser as he is usually up late. Master Dick returned late last night, so he won’t be up until later. Master Jason stayed up into the night reading, so he won’t be down for breakfast either. Master Tim has been awake for over 48 hours and I've made him rest. Miss Cassandra has left early for ballet practice, and Master Damian has fencing practice and would rather not be disturbed,” Alfred recited, his explanations prepared long beforehand. 

“Oh,” Marinette muttered, “All right then.”

“You know, every month, we all gather and chip in to help the people of Gotham. Master Dick will be going to local orphanages tomorrow. Why, Master Damian goes to the animal shelters every week. Would you like to follow me to help give food to the homeless?” Alfred offered.  Marinette blinked for a moment as she tried to picture Damian, with his usual sour scowl, being surrounded by cute animals.

“That sounds great Alfred, would…would anyone mind?” Marinette asked.

“Not at all,” Alfred said before leaving. 

Later, Marinette sat in the back of the limousine with a few baskets beside her, all filled to the brim with sandwiches made by Alfred. Her heart sank the deeper she went into Gotham City. She could never truly get used to the state of the city. “Where are we?” Marinette asked.

“Gotham City’s East End,” Alfred answered, “where most of the unfortunate souls reside.”

The car slowly came to a stop in front of a small alleyway. The entire street grew silent as everyone focused on the car. It wasn’t everyday a luxury car came to this part of Gotham, it attracted all sorts of attention. Alfred got out first and locked the car, and as he walked towards the side to open the door for Marinette, he was accosted by a man.

“Nice ride old man, wouldn’t want anything bad to happen to it.” The man spoke with a malicious glint in his eye. 

“Let’s keep this amicable, Gentlemen. Please go away.” Alfred answered monotonously.

One man drew his arm back for a punch, only for Alfred to deliver a swift kick to the groin. The man instantly collapsed and writhed on the floor. Alfred opened the door and Marinette nervously stepped out and watched the man on the floor in worry and pity. She whispered a quick apology to the man. People on the street began to gossip, was this girl the heiress to a crime family? Gossip began to die down as Alfred gave them a stern glare, and people began going about their business.

Alfred quickly collected the baskets, “Miss Marinette, please stay close.” Marinette followed Alfred through the streets until they reached a shanty town filled with children. 

Marinette gasped at the ragged children living on the streets and took an unconscious step back. Tears pricked her eyes for a moment as she saw the conditions they lived in, but this was replaced with a determination as she walked up to them and offered a sandwich. The children eyed her suspiciously, the closest one slapped her hand aside. “How stupid do you think we are?!”

Marinette froze at the hostility coming from the children, “But…I…” she stammered.

Another child shouted, “That's how they kidnapped Bob and Bill last week, two people came in dressed as the Mayor's Homeless Outreach Project. They threw Mackey through a window and even killed old man Steve.” 

Marinette began to panic as the children of Alleytown began to yell at her. "All right, that's enough," a voice behind her boomed and all the children were silent. Marinette looked back to see Jason standing behind her.

“Jason?” Marinette said in shock, “What are you doing here?”

“I just happen to be around," he said unconvincingly. He turned to the children, “She’s with me,"

“Well well, if it isn’t Jason Todd, what brings you and your friend to Alleytown?” a voice came from nearby. Marinette turned around to see a blonde woman perched on the sill of an open window with one leg crossed over the other. 

"Holly," Jason greeted plainly, "Marinette's a friend visiting from Paris. She just wants help out while she's in town." Marinette felt a twinge of shame, did Jason not refer to her as family out of contempt? She looked down at the floor, unable to meet Jason's eyes. "She's one of the good few, trust me."

Marinette looked up tentatively at Jason. She wasn't sure how to react, but here he was vouching for her to strangers. "I brought some food…" she said as she held out a sandwich.

Holly leaped off the window sill and landed in a roll, she strolled towards Marinette and picked up the sandwich offered to her. Marinette seemed a little startled by the ease with which Holly managed to do that. "Well, don't mind if I do," she said as she took a bite. Marinette nervously looked at Holly chewing, all the Alleytown kids stared too, suspicion still in their glares. "Hey, this is good. Come on and have some," she told the kids. In a split second their suspicious glares disappeared and the kids crowded around Marinette for free food. 

The children swarmed and overwhelmed Marinette, she frantically gave everyone sandwiches.

They then quickly dispersed back into hiding after taking their portion, Marinette, Jason and Alfred were then left alone. Marinette breathed a sigh of relief and wiped the sweat from her brow.

“Would you like a lift home, Master Jason?” Alfred asked as he gestured to the limousine.

“Sure, why not?” Jason shrugged. Alfred got into the driver’s seat and Jason joined Marinette in the back. Marinette sat quietly beside Jason, refusing to make eye contact with him. Instead she preferred to stare at her feet the entire ride home.  As the car made its way back to Wayne Manor, there was a deafening silence in the back seat.  Marinette felt like her siblings simultaneously wanted nothing to do with her, and yet one of them was nice enough to vouch for her back there.

"What's wrong?" Jason asked bluntly. 

“Nothing, I’m fine,” Marinette snapped back.

Jason sighed and crossed his arms, “For the last two days, you looked as if someone kicked your puppy. Didn't think Gotham would make you miserable that quickly.”

“What's it to you?” Marinette asked, almost grumpily. 

“Because there's only room in that manor for one miserable person and that's usually Bruce. And it seems like you inherited Bruce’s ability to brood for days too. Now are you going to tell me what's wrong?"

"Did I do something wrong?" Marinette whispered, her voice slightly cracked.

Jason looked at her in confusion. "Do you even think of me as family at all?"

"Is it because I called you a friend back in Alleytown?" Jason asked, Marinette nodded.

"It's something the public isn't ready for yet, it's to protect you. The moment someone finds out, you can kiss goodbye any privacy you have." Marinette nodded slowly as she processed Jason's words. "If it makes you feel any better, you're probably the only normal kid Bruce has," Jason said offhandedly, only to suddenly grimace. He swore internally at the careless remark. Marinette perked up at Jason's comment and looked towards him curiously. "Dick, Tim and I are all orphans. Unlike those two, I grew up on the streets similar to the kids you helped back there. Eventually we were all adopted by Bruce, one way or another. Cass ran away from an abusive home, and Damian’s mom travels around a lot.” he recounted, carefully wording it with half-truths. “And even though Steph has her mom and isn’t adopted, her dad was always in and out of jail."

Tears began to form around Marinette's eyes as she listened closely to her siblings' life stories. By comparison, her mother and father cared for her all her life, she couldn't even begin to comprehend what they have all been through. 

Jason sighed and pondered what he could do to calm Marinette down. After a few moments of tolerating Marinette’s crying, he tentatively placed a hand on her head. “Still, you did good. Not many people would reach out to help the children of Alleytown. I’m sure it meant a lot to them.” 

“Thanks…”Marinette sniffed. “I just did what I felt was right.”

Jason’s face changed to one of annoyance, though he turned to look outside the window. He groaned internally, at the very least Marinette wasn’t a Robin or a superhero of any kind. He was sure the very first thing she would do would be to jump in front of a bullet out of pure selflessness. 

Early the next morning, not long before sunrise, the family sat around Batman. "I have bad news…"

"Well, that's ominous," Nightwing quipped.

"Just get on with it," said Red Robin.

"Marinette has caught the attention of Vicki Vale," Batman admitted, the entire room erupted in groans. "Quiet." Batman ordered. "Alfred and I have discussed it and we decided we should take the initiative. We have agreed to reveal Marinette but on our own terms."

Alfred spoke up, "We hope to cultivate a positive reputation for Miss Marinette and her family in Paris. Who knows what nonsense these tabloids can spew."

"So that's why you suggested to her to give food out yesterday," Red Hood summarised.

Alfred nodded, "Yes, I took photos too.”

“Any suggestions?” Batman asked.

Spoiler rubbed her chin for a few moments, being the only person in the group who actually reads tabloids of her own free will. “Why not a photo shoot? Have her look her best.” 

Alfred took out his notebook and began writing. “Not a bad idea. I was considering a debutante ball or a formal introduction at the next gala. Though, she will require etiquette lessons.”

Red Robin raised his hand stiffly, “Will there be an interview?” he asked.

Batman nodded in response, “Yes, Ms. Vale is asking for one.” 

“Then I suggest it be pre-recorded then broadcasted, or at the very least a strict script for both Marinette and Vicki to follow,” Alfred suggested.

Nightwing sighed and facepalmed, “I hate the paparazzi,” he groaned. “This is our fault for not being careful. We need to make sure her and her family’s reputation stays intact.” 

Red Hood laughed, he grabbed Nightwing by the shoulder and with his free arm waved across the space in front of them “I can see the headlines ‘Gotham's Homewrecker!’” Nightwing elbowed Red Hood in the ribs. “Come on, this is exactly the kind of shit to expect.” 

“He’s got a point,” Oracle chimed from the screen, “The Gotham Gazette can be ruthless.” 

"Then it's settled, I'll break the news to her later," said Batman.

After another quiet breakfast alone, Marinette quickly went back to her room. She curled up and sat on her bed, her knees against her chest.

"Are you okay?" Tikki asked.

"I want to trust my family, to trust my father and siblings. I want to believe in Dick, Steph and the others. It's just…been hard, especially with what we saw out there."

"Hmm, I understand how you feel. Maybe it is just your father, after all, he did mention most of the others were adopted,” Tikki remarked, “Besides, Dick, Cass and Steph seem nice."

"You might be right Tikki. Who knows, maybe the adoptions were publicity stunts,"  Marinette said.

There was a knock on her door, Tikki quickly flew into Marinette's sleeve. "May I come in?" asked Bruce from outside. Marinette slapped her hand over her mouth, worried that he heard what she just said. She shakily opened the door slightly to peer out.

Bruce gave her a polite smile, "Good morning, how are you?" 

"I'm g-good" she stammered as she opened her door to let him in. Bruce stood inside for a few quiet moments, he ran his hand through his hair nervously. This in turn made Marinette more nervous. 

Bruce broke the uncomfortable silence, "It seems, the paparazzi found out about you," Marinette's eyes widened and was about to speak before Bruce interrupted her. 

"I've decided that, if we don't have a choice, we need to make sure your introduction is flawless."  Marinette quietly nodded as she listened to her father. "Alfred will provide you the details, and he will give you lessons on etiquette. We have a photo shoot planned and you'll be formally introduced during the next gala." 

Marinette continued to nod, an awkward silence enveloped the room again. "Just be careful, gossip magazines can be ruthless. This may also affect your family," Burce said ominously.

Marinette didn't respond, she just looked down at the floor. Bruce checked his watch, "I'm sorry, I have an appointment soon. See you later,” Bruce then quickly left the room. He had hoped he conveyed the message to Marinette that all this was for her sake. 

Once he was out of earshot, Marinette slumped onto her bed and screamed into her pillow. Tikki flew out and tried to console her. "I can't believe it, that jerk! Now that his secret love child has been revealed he expects me to be the perfect child? All for what? To protect his reputation?!" 

She sighed deeply, before turning on her TV, she flipped through the channels, and froze as the news came on screen. “Mr. Wayne! Mr. Wayne!” the reporter yelled as she pushed through the crowd. The cameraman followed the best he could, the camera shook as he pushed past the large group of people gathering. The view slowly came into focus and she saw her father in a fancy suit, scantily clad models on either side, his arms over their shoulders. She didn’t have the energy to be any more shocked, she could only stare at the screen blankly. Watching billionaire playboy Bruce Wayne appear before a large crowd at some party. He was chatty, sociable, flirty, he winked towards the camera with a bright smile. It was as if he was a completely different person in public. Frankly, it made Marinette feel uneasy and reaffirmed her earlier beliefs, Bruce Wayne was someone who valued his reputation above all else. And it made her sick.  The interview that followed was vapid and uninteresting, though she was amazed to see her father acting like an absolute airhead.  She stared in shock as she watched her father act like a loveable fool for the cameras, she was almost impressed by his acting. 

"Why don't you go for a walk, try to clear your mind?" Tikki suggested. Marinette signed and nodded, she got up and left her room. 

She wandered the empty halls of Wayne Manor aimlessly. She spent much of her time staring at the floor instead of its architecture. Fear began to slowly creep up as she thought what would happen when word got out, what would happen to her? Her friends? Her parents? Would an angry mob try to burn down the bakery? Just as her anxiety began to spiral she noticed a familiar pair of shiny shoes in front of her. She looked up to see Alfred in a frilly apron dusting a few portraits.

"Ah, what brings you here Miss Marinette?" asked Alfred as he worked. 

Marinette took a closer look at the portrait, some man who, from what she gathered, passed centuries ago. The entire length of the hall was decorated with portraits of serious looking men. Their stares felt judgmental, as if all her ancestors deemed her unworthy. "Uh, I just wanted to know who the people in all of these portraits are," she said.

"These are portraits of all the heads of the House of Wayne, starting all the way back to 1640 with Nathaniel Wayne," Alfred explained as he walked to the corresponding portrait. 

"The Waynes have been here for that long?"

"Indeed, the Waynes have been around since the founding of the old Gotham Town. By the way, has your father told you about your predicament?" Marinette nodded. "Good, first we should focus on your photoshoot and interview. I've arranged an appointment at the tailor's later and asked Miss Cassandra and Miss Stephanie to join us."

"Actually," Marinette interrupted, "I was wondering if maybe I could design my own dress for the event? In fact I did design something for Gabriel Agreste." Marinette thought this might save her from being poked and prodded by a seamstress while everyone argued over what would look best on her.

"Why, that's wonderful" Alfred said with a smile, "we can just get the fabric as well as any tools you may need. Why don't you wait for Miss Cassandra and Miss Stephanie in the living room?"

Alfred opened the door and ushered Marinette into the living room, she froze slightly as she saw Tim sitting on a sofa. He seemed busy as he worked on his laptop. Marinette awkwardly walked in and sat across Tim, on a different sofa. The two sat in silence until Cass and Steph walked in.

"Hiya Marinette," said Steph as she entered while Cass gave her a wave. "Ready to go shopping with us?" 

Marinette glanced over at Alfred, who gave her an encouraging nod, before walking towards them.  The two girls ushered her out of the room, waving back at Alfred behind them.

Before they walked out, Marinette said, "I was hoping to make my own clothes, I want to be a fashion designer. I even designed something for Agreste Fashion."

"What? no way, what did you design for Gabriel Agreste?" Steph asked excitedly as she sat beside Marinette.

"Sorry, wait, you designed something for Agreste Fashion?" Tim said as he looked up from his laptop.

Marinette nodded, "Yeah, it was for a competition at school. My design was featured on the front page of a magazine," She took out her phone and showed them the photos of her hat in various stages of production along with the front page with Adrien as the model. Everyone crowded around Marinette's phone to take a look at the hat she designed. "I also embroidery my signature into it, as proof of authenticity." She turned her phone upside down and lo and behold the golden etching spelled her name.

Everyone's jaws dropped, as Marinette's name was spelled clearly in the hat.  The three of them crowded around her phone screen to get a better look.  Marinette was starting to get overwhelmed from their excitement, she took a step back to try to compose herself. Lucky for her, Alfred had stepped in just in time. "Ahem, shall we make our way to the tailor's?"

Tim had decided to join their shopping trip at the last minute, Marinette sat quietly unsure as she hadn't really interacted with him other than mealtimes. Steph and Cass conversed with each other, it was more like Steph doing the talking for both of them.

"So other than fabrics, what else do you need?" Tim asked.

"Um, let's see…" Marinette thought of what she may need, she considered her budget based on the pocket money she brought with her. "Some pencils, a ruler, thread, needle…" she listed.

Tim listened intently, before turning to Alfred. "Alfred, do we have any empty rooms near Marinette's for her to work her dress?"

"Yes, Master Timothy, there is an old unused study near her bedroom," Alfred responded quickly without even taking his eyes off the road.

Shopping at the tailor's became a blur for Marinette, she was introduced to many materials, each with their own pattern. She struggled to decide which to pick as she didn't have inspiration just yet, she was a very long way away from the place in Paris where she used to sit and sketch out  her best ideas. Normally her work would be based on the materials available to her, yet this new found freedom of choice made it hard to pick a specific fabric. At Tim's suggestion, they purchased almost all the fabric available at the shop. Tim even offered to pay for it all, much to Marinette's surprise, she tried to stammer a protest that this was too much but she was cut off by the others.

Next came the tools, she asked for a simple set much like hers back home. A needle and some thread, with some basics like pencils and rulers. Just like earlier, Tim had again purchased all the tools needed, an entire sewing machine, a mannequin, tables, chairs, racks and shelves for all the fabric. 

After a long and hectic day of selecting everything she needed to make her dress, that and so much more, she sat in her new workshop in awe.  Her workshop looked like a professional tailor, in fact even better equipped than the tailor she went to earlier that day. She slowly walked around, examining each and everything in the room, Tikki quietly followed behind her. Marinette reached out to touch a piece of the fabric, vicuña wool, the world’s most expensive fabric. Beside it, a large roll of guanaco, she ran her hands through the roll of the finest wool she had ever seen. But at what cost? Perhaps this was their way of showing their support and helping her, at the same time, it felt like she was cheating her way to the top. It felt like a dream come true, she now had a studio beyond her wildest dreams. But at what cost? She now had to make a dress like her life depended on it.

Rating Every Blueberry Muffin Design

New year, same urge to talk about Strawberry Shortcake. This time I want to talk about Blueberry Muffin's design over the years. Looking at them all at once, they don't change nearly as much as Strawberry's did. But the differences are still worth talking about, so without further ado...

Kenner

(I found two color palettes for this one, so I'll talk about both of them)

Looking back at this design, it's kind of insane how many elements from it stayed for later versions. Bright saturated blues? Check. Green and lavender accents? Check. Giant hat? Check. Goes to show how they struck gold with this look. Well, struck silver, it's not my favorite for a few reasons. One, why is the lavender only on the top of her design? This isn't an unbreakable rule, but accent colors look better when they're distributed across every part of a design. A bit at the top, a bit at the middle, and a bit at the bottom. Two, there's a little too much blue. Shouldn't be a problem for the blue character, but when Blueberry is covered in similiar shades of blues, the colors end up fighting for attention instead of complimenting each other. The layer with a diamond pattern breaks up those blues a bit, but not as much as they should. And three, she just looks like a cute girl. Nothing wrong with that, but it means there isn't anything special about her. Strawberry's a baker and Orange is an artist, so there are ways to make their designs stand out from the others beyond color. Blueberry doesn't have anything like that in this gen, so her design is less distinct. But despite my gripes, I still think it's solid. B Tier.

THQ

Finding an image of this design that showed it off properly was near impossible, so I had to settle for this one.

While this look still has parts of her original look, they were implemented makes it a straight downgrade. Between the main blue color being everywhere, poorly placed accents, and her generic pigtails, they somehow doubled down on the worst parts of her old design while scrubbing away the parts that helped it stand out. At least Kenner Blueberry had yarn-like hair, that's way more distinctive than the pigtails she has here. And the sea of blue she's covered in makes her look like a blob of solid color. They try to break it up with the diamond pattern, but the colors are too similar to help. Those accent colors would've done wonders for that goal, but they were underutilized. The THQ designs seemed to push every character towards the same look, whatever brand of feminitity was popular whether it fit them or not. Blueberry is no exception, so this look of hers going to D tier.

Bandai

I'll cut to the chase: This is my favorite design for Blueberry. The lavender accents? Near perfect. The polka dot pattern? So perfect I'm surprised they didn't do it sooner. I'm sure her diamond pattern is more iconic for some, but the polka dots are a great change because they represent the fruit she's named after while making her design more unique from the previous two. The long brown hair? A nice way to make her look distinct next to her older designs while connecting her with the other 2003 characters, since everyone in the main cast had natural hair colors. My favorite thing about it though? Nothing is overdone. She's not covered in polka dots, she isn't drowning in shades of blue, her accent colors aren't overpowering. The only thing it gets "wrong" is that it doesn't tell you much about what she likes, but unlike Strawberry's baking hobby it's pretty hard to do that with acting/theater production. So it gets a pass there. This design is the ultimate example of less is more, and I love it. S Tier.

Playmates?

And just like that, they ruined her. I'm exaggerating, but it's definitely a downgrade from her 2003 design. You'd think I wouldn't say that because this is basically that design again with a few changes. Problem is, most of those changes take away from what made her 2003 design work.

I'll start with the change I do like. The white polka-dot shirt is super cute. If they had to make her hair blue it was a good way to make that change work...but everything else? Between the braid and the jacket and the hip hankerchief, it feels like they slapped random things onto her so she'd look more distinct. But all it really does is clutter up her design. Also, I don't know if the lavender can be considered an accent color anymore. It's still used as one, but now it's fighting for attention with the blues. Doesn't help that there's less of the latter now. This isn't an awful design for Blueberry, but it is a pointless one since the better version of it already existed. D tier.

Hasbro

I'll cut to the chase again: this is my least favorite design for Blueberry Muffin. The one positive I'll give it is the accent colors, they were used well. Also the extra blueberry buttons, those are nice. But unfortunately...it's boring in the worst way. This era of Strawberry Shortcake really struggles to make each character look distinct. Everyone has similar hair, everyone has similar clothes, everyone has the same face(which is a problem for most eras of SS but it's really noticeable here), and because of that the only real differences between each character are their colors. Even if we take the design on its own merits, there's just not a lot to say. I'll give some grace on it not representing her hobby well, being a bookworm is not something that's easy to put in a design. But I will not give grace on her colors, because it's the same problem she had in her 1st two looks. I think the idea was to homage the Kenner design with the green striped stockings and super saturated blues, but the execution just doesn't work for me. I think the polka dot layer is also meant to homage the Bandai design, but that plus the jacket plus the purple thing plus the skirt makes her feel overlayered. And I really don't like that her hair is the same color as the skirt and jacket. C tier on its own, borderline D tier next to the other 2009 designs.

Wildbrain (Scrapped)

So, if I'm being honest...I think this design is actually okay? Sounds insane to imply the original Wildbrain designs were anything above atrocious, but Blueberry's isn't half bad. I can't judge it the same way I did the other ones because this version never got a show, but it still looks nice enough. One of the best things it does is implement the fruit she's named after. Polka dot leggings, blue shoe buttons, blueberry-shaped bun and the circle on her shirt. I also kinda like the splashes of pink on her outfit. I know it would've been smarter to go with lavender, but pink is still a nice change of pace that we've never seen with her other designs. But above all, she's not drowning in blue! That familiar shade of blue is present, but not intrusive. No idea why Blueberry Muffin of all characters has had that problem for so long, but it's nice to see a 2nd exception to that rule. Despite my praise, the design is still just functional. Since there's nothing particularly eye-catching about it aside from the colors, it goes into C tier.

Wildbrain #2

And to finish, we get her plainest design to date. Starting with the positives, I like the hair and colors. The hair bun representing a blueberry is a no-brainer decision that somehow wasn't made sooner, while these darker muted blues are a nice change of pace from what she usually gets. They also fit her personality, since this Blueberry is mellow and eccentric, while helping the bright blue accents pop. Those accents aren't perfectly placed, I wish she had some more on the lower half of her design, but they still look nice. Finally, the pink flower matches the ones in her mother's hair, and that's really cute.

As for the negatives...it's just kinda boring. Sure it fits her character(not a derogatory comment I swear), but the actual outfit is too plain. Worst part imo is the brown boots. They feel out of place and do nothing but add an unnecessary color to her palette. A total downgrade from her shoes for Wild Brain's 1st attempt. It also doesn't convey everything about this version of Blueberry. She runs an ice cream shop in this gen, could you tell by looking at her? Wouldn't it be cool if you could? This doesn't ruin the design for me, but it is enough for me to reluctantly place it in C tier.

And that's all of them! Unlike Strawberry, who had a lot of design changes of varying quality, Blueberry's designs have been pretty consistent. This meant that a lot of her best and worst attributes were repeated more than you'd expect. For a while I wasn't sure why I was giving out so many C's, but once I made that connection it made sense.

As the cycle keeps on repeating over and over and over and overandoverandoverandover- Even if you don't remember things that have happened in the past (or at least, some times not completely), the two of you have descended into a thick pool of infatuated insanity. There's no longer any room for others, not for you nor Xie Lian.

When he finds you again, when he finally brings you home once more, everything is already set up in a way that is perfect for you. The joy felt is indescribable, but whenever you try to surprise him, you can't help but feel disappointed. What do you mean I've already done this? What do you mean you're happy to get another one? You'd be lying if it didn't make you worry. What if Xie Lian gets bored? What if he finally has enough of you? Even though you don't remember, it's been so long that it's engraved into your soul that you are his, and he is yours. You know that, just seeing the way he looks at you tells you. This deep rooted craving that you have, the dependency the two of you have has seeped into your bones and into the very matter that makes you two.

You can't leave him. You don't want to.

After all, given the White No-Face's prediction that Xia Lian will be abandoned by everyone and left alone, which has become a self-fulfilling prophecy, even more poisons his mind and stability when he sees that you are not always happy. He dares to believe — wants to believe — that you love him and want him, that this is at least partly untrue, that you will always be with him, always returning to him, always being loved by him, going against everything and giving up everything, that in your first life, that in current one — but when he sees how you become more and more sad and annoyed with each life, while not saying what is happening to you,,,, when he sees the dullness in your eyes at the sight of what seems to you as a 'too weak reaction', or when he does not answer the question whether it is the first place or a gift, instead saying how good he is, thanking you and smiling happily, but your smile is insincere and empty.

You are so perfect, so magnificent that he can't help but admire you and adore you, no one can help but adore you, even in your first life — otherwise you wouldn't be as well loved and famous if you were famous only for 'how you drove the Crown Prince crazy with love'. If there were guides to the Peach Spring that led souls to rest, then it would be you.

Did your past reincarnations kiss him like that? Will your future reincarnations kiss him like that? You can't help but be disappointed and annoyed, feeling how he wants to relax you, but not understanding how, only giving in to your impulse, letting do whatever you want, experiencing an overwhelming rush of happiness and adoration that almost cries when realizes again that it's you, you're next, you're with him, you love him, you are his,

and he is yours.

When you ask him to relax, to trust you, Xie Lian sees no reason not to do it, obediently closing his eyes, and his face is so calm, serene, that you feel even more like you are becoming abnormal for him.

It's for his own good — you say when your fingers slide over his skin while you kiss his neck, feeling his long thin fingers grab you by the clothes, but his eyes, even though the eyelashes tremble, do not open, obeying — this is what you should have done with him a long time ago.

You don't know if your future reincarnations will do this, but you are sure that your past ones didn't, when your fingers slide over his naked body, drawing circles and symbols that he will definitely understand.
