Garrett x Lucy

Description: Garrett likes Lucy’s style.

Lucy, in general, was well known for her fashion sense all around Forks. People considered her clothes to be…eccentric at best and just plain odd at worst. She, like Alice, was a fashion designer. Their styles were drastically different, though. Alice loved to work with darker colors. It made sense considering she, along with the rest of her “family,” were extremely pale and darker shades worked best with such a skin tone. Lucy, meanwhile, always went with more colorful pieces. She took more risks and honestly, they usually paid off. She made brighter colors work for her.

As a matter of fact her bright clothes were what first caught Garrett’s attention. All the other vampires in the Cullen home (permanent and temporary) wore dark and muted colors. It seemed that black, white, tan, dark blues, etc were the unofficial dress code. Well, except for the second shortest girl of the Cullen clan. Instead, she wore a seventies inspired dress with white, yellow, pink, orange and brown vertical stripes as well as long white flower lace sleeves along with three inch white platform shoes to get her up to a solid five foot three inches.

Almost as soon as he saw her, their eyes met. It didn’t take them long to understand the bond between them, which brought a smile to both their faces. Their eye contact didn’t last long before Garrett’s eyes trailed down to her outfit, examining it. She took the time to do the same to him. Normally, she absolutely detested dark colors because they just felt so basic and flat to her. But that all seemed to change when Garrett wore them. He made them look good to her, which was not an easy feat.

With her study of him done, she found herself looking at his (admittedly handsome) face and trying to gauge his reaction to her clothes. By this point she was used to the looks she received from the other residents of Forks and even a few vampires that were now in her home, but for some reason Garrett’s gaze felt different to her. Perhaps it was the fact that he was her mate? That was the best she could come up with as she watched him.

It looked like he was trying to figure out whether he liked it or not. For the first time since she’d started designing she felt…self conscious. She hated it, it made her feel awkward and shy, not wishing to know what he was thinking. Either way it was hard to tell as he kept his face totally neutral, which did not help in the slightest.

Just when she felt like she couldn’t take it anymore, he finally looked at her. Once again their eyes met, though instead of having an impartial gaze, his eyes now had a hint of mirth in them. They matched the small smile that formed on his face as he spoke.

“I like your style.” That was all he said, but it was more than enough for Lucy. She found herself smiling in relief as she thanked him.

Garrett was pleasantly surprised to learn that her attire wasn’t just for special events, but were in fact her everyday outfits. It was a breath of fresh air for him, which in turn made Lucy pleasantly surprised. She found herself becoming giddy that he liked her style. And it seemed that her fashion sense wasn’t the only style he liked about her.

The next morning Lucy, Garrett, Zafrina, Bella, Edward, Carlisle, Ramona, Benjamin, Eleazar and Kate had gathered in the woods a few miles away from the Cullen home. They’d decided to practice channeling their powers and train for whatever could potentially come from the confrontation with the Volturi. The others watched as Bella took hold of Edward’s hand as Zafrina focused her gaze on both of them, presumably making him see something that the others just couldn’t. The man shook his head as he looked around, eyes looking rather distant compared to the rest of him.

“If she weren’t holding my hand right now, I could swear this was real,” Edward muttered as he shook his head, impressed. Bella also shook her head, but for a different reason than her husband’s.

“I don’t see anything.”

“Edward, you didn’t tell me your mate is a shield,” Eleazar piped up. While a look of understanding appeared on the boy’s face, Bella just became more confused.

“What’s a shield?”

“It’s a defensive talent,” Lucy explains.

“It’s why I couldn’t read your mind, even before. And why Aro couldn’t,” Edward adds, looking at her.

“You have a very powerful gift,” Eleazar concluded. Lucy then watched as Kate suddenly grabbed Bella’s hand. They stood there for a moment, then the Denali girl dropped her hand with an impressed expression.

“Oh yeah, she’s a shield alright. Should’ve put her on her ass.”

“Or your voltage has been exaggerated,” Garrett spoke up from beside Lucy, making the others look at him. Kate turned to him with raised eyebrows, holding her hand up as if she was daring him to touch her. It seemed that the man wasn’t one to back away from a challenge because he took a step towards the blonde and began reaching out.

“I wouldn’t do that,” Lucy warned, though he took no heed. As soon as their fingers touched Garrett was electrocuted enough that it caused him to fall to the ground. A gasp escaped Lucy at the sight, and she watched worriedly as he stood up. He didn’t seem to be hurt from what just happened. Instead he looked impressed.

“You are an amazing woman,” he said simply. A twinge of jealousy shot through Lucy as the duo shared a smile. She hadn’t felt this way since 1948, when her sister and Jasper met and almost instantly fell in love, and she instantly remembered how much she hated it. It wasn’t a good feeling seeing something like that and she was tempted to leave. Before she could do so, Benjamin suddenly faced her.

“Lucy, Edward tells me that you have a unique gift. I’ve been meaning to ask what talent you possess,” he said, which effectively turned everyone’s attention to her.

“Oh, you wanna talk about a powerful gift?” Laughed Ramona from the other side of Benjamin. That instantly eased the tension in Lucy’s shoulders and she found herself smiling at the girl.

“Well? What is it?” The Egyptian boy asked curiously. Before answering Lucy took a deep breath and closed her eyes, feeling her body morph into who she wanted to look like: Benjamin.

“I don’t know, you tell me,” she finally responded. What surprised everyone was how similar she sounded to him. It was almost creepy how uncanny it was. An amused smile appeared on Carlisle’s face.

“If you couldn’t tell, Lucy has the power to shapeshift and perfectly mimic whoever she thinks of,” he explained to the others.

“And that includes power recreation,” Lucy added. She looked down at the ground and hovered her hand. Just moments later a Juliet Rose bloomed out of nowhere. Within seconds she looked like her normal self, and she looked around at everyone else. Those who hadn’t seen her powers looked thoroughly awed by the show, but no one more than Garrett.

“Incredible,” he breathed out, which made her look at him. If she thought he looked impressed by Kate’s show of powers, he looked absolutely amazed by hers, like he’d just seen something life changing. Lucy knew that if she was still human, she’d be blushing with the way he was looking at her. She watched as he crouched down and picked up the flower. He kept his eyes on the flower as he stood back up, and their eyes met once he was at his height. A small smirk appeared on his face as he brought the flower up and nestled it into her hair.

“I like your style.” And just like that, things felt normal to her again.

When You See Him Part 2- Garrett x OC

Garrett x Lucy

Description: After the confrontation with the Volturi, another problem presents itself to Lucy.

Garrett and Lucy ended up finding a trail soon after so their walk would be smoother, and they were silent as they strolled down the trail, instead just basking in each other’s presence. That is until Garrett spoke. 

“So can I ask you something?” He asked out of the blue. 

“You just did,” Lucy pointed out with a teasing grin, earning an eye roll from him and a giggle from herself. “Sure, fire away.” 

“What is it about feeding off animals that’s so appealing to you?” The question obviously surprised her, and her eyebrows shot up. 

“Uh, well, it’s more of a conscience sort of thing,” she answered after a moment. “The thought of people’s blood on my hand makes me sick. At least with animals it’s more socially acceptable.” The man hummed thoughtfully as he nodded. 

“I believe the same question could be posed to you. What is it about feeding off people that’s so appealing to you?” 

“I don’t just choose people at random, just so you know,” he reassured her, which admittedly made her feel better. “I usually go for scummy people. Assaulter, murderers, people like that.”

“Sure, but what is it about people?” She repeated, which actually made him quiet as he thought for a moment. 

“Maybe it’s the thought that I’m getting rid of the earth’s scum one by one,” he ultimately responded. Lucy’s lips pursed in thought, then she nodded. 

“That’s fair, but I still don’t think it’s my cup of tea,” she spoke, earning a nod from Garrett as they continued walking. 

They went home after that. The rest of Lucy’s coven were delighted to learn that she had found her mate. Edward even had the opportunity to brag that he knew it would happen since he heard both of their thoughts upon meeting. Not to mention the fact that he decided to listen in when Garrett followed Lucy out just a few minutes later, then he heard the moment they realized they were mates. It was a very amusing conversation, albeit awkward for Lucy. Was this what it was like to have an embarrassing older brother? 

As the day of the confrontation with the Volturi grew nearer Garrett and Lucy grew closer. By this point they knew just about everything about each other. Garrett told her about his time in the military and his and Carlisle’s friendship despite their different diets. Lucy, meanwhile, told him everything about herself from the moment she and Alice were turned into vampires. It usually happened when Lucy went out to hunt. He always followed her, something he’d started doing since they first met. When she was done they were just walking around, away from prying eyes and ears. Not that she had anything to hide from her family, but it was nice to not have at least two or more people listening in at any given moment. 

Finally the day of the confrontation arrived. Everyone was silent that morning when they got dressed and prepared to meet the Volturi. At this point Lucy still hadn’t heard a word from Alice or Jasper, which heavily worried her. Because of that Garrett opted to stay beside her as the Cullens and their witnesses made their way to the meeting place. The shifters of the Quileute tribe also joined them in wolf form. 

It seemed that they’d arrived just in time because the Volturi were also only just arriving with Irina beside them, their black cloaks standing out against the pure white snow. The air was tense around both parties as a small silence settled over them. Bella’s shield blocked the Volturi’s strongest weapons like Alec and Jane. It allowed a fair negotiation and trial of sorts to commence without biased judgment from them. Even then everyone could tell that Aro still planned to initiate a battle between them, so Lucy, along with everyone else, previously decided to try and figure out who they could take. 

Bella had set her sights on Alec and Jane, believing that without their powers they were helpless. However Kate desired to inflict her power on Jane while Stefan wished to avenge his coven by killing Alec. Edward decided on Demetri so that Alice could be free from his tracking power. Tanya opted on targeting Caius, and Lucy ultimately decided on Felix. He was the strongest of the Volturi, and if she could replicate his powers she could probably take him down with ease, especially when Garrett offered her aid. 

It didn’t end up coming to that, however, as Alice suddenly showed up to the battlefield with Jasper in tow. They’re quickly halted by Demetri and two other guards, which made Lucy growl under her breath. Garrett quickly took her hand in his in order to hold her back should something happen. It wasn’t until Alice offered to show Aro proof that Renesmee wasn’t a threat that she was let go. The two vampires connected hands as Aro looked at the vision she was showing him. 

Finally after a long, tense silence, Aro pulled away from Alice with an astounded look on his face. Once it was done, to give Aro the excuse to prevent the fight from commencing, Alice called upon two new vampires that Lucy had never seen before. She presented the male as a fully matured vampire hybrid, Nahuel, and his vampire aunt, Hulien, to give information about the existence of hybrids. 

Marcus verbally acknowledged that hybrids were much akin to vampires, but Caius, adamant for bloodlust, insisted they should at least punish the Cullens for consulting with werewolves. Aro gave him a resigned look, then delivered his verdict. He concluded that "there is no danger" in regards to Renesmee. Caius was surprised and dismayed at his decision, but nonetheless complied. After further discussion amongst themselves the Volturi concluded that Irina had made a mistake about Renesmee. Unfortunately the punishment for such critical  misinformation was death, and so Irina was executed. Tanya and Kate, her fellow coven members, were enraged about it. They prepared to attack the Volturi, but Tanya was held back by Esme and Carlisle while Lucy and Garrett and Lucy held back Kate (taking several shocks from her before Bella protected them) until they calmed enough.

The coven left swiftly after that, with Aro looking at Alice and Bella with desire before following. Vladimir and Stefan, two Romanian vampires, were disappointed by the peaceful outcome as they were hoping for a chance to attack the Volturi, but they thankfully didn’t instigate any hostile action. The Cullens couldn’t hide their relief once the Volturi were out of sight. Garrett pulled Lucy close to him and she wrapped her arms around his middle in return for just a moment before Alice, Jasper, Nahuel and Hulien approached them. When they were close enough she let go of her mate and met Alice halfway in a tight hug. 

“Thank god you’re okay,” she muttered into her sister’s ear, relief flooding through her for the second time in ten minutes. A small laugh escaped the girl as they pulled away, and she pushed some hair behind her sister’s ear. 

“Of course I am,” she responded simply, then her eyes trailed behind Lucy. The younger girl’s brows furrowed and she turned around, realizing that she was looking at Garrett. A smile quickly formed on her face and she gestured her mate closer. Once he did as she said, she faced Alice once again. 

“Alice, this is my mate, Garrett,” she introduced before glancing at the boy. “This is my sister, the one I’ve been telling you about.” Garrett smiled then looked at Alice. 

“Nice to meet you,” he spoke, holding out his free hand for her. Alice stared at his hand for a second before taking it with a small smile. 

“Of course it’s when I’m out of the state that my little sister finds her mate,” she said as they shook hands. It’s nice to meet you too, Garrett.” 

Later that evening the Cullen’s allies began heading home as they had no more reason to stay in Forks. The Denali coven left first, too upset about Irina to stay long. Though Tanya and Kate accepted that what Irina did was wrong, they were still upset about it (and understandably so). The Egyptian coven went next, and the vampires in the Cullen home until it was just them and Garrett. One question kept swimming in Lucy’s head as their time together felt like it was coming to a close. What would happen to them now? 

A battle raged inside her. Garrett was important to her. He was her mate after all, they were bound together by fate and though she didn’t mind it, he wasn’t the only one that held a place in her heart. Her sister was in Forks. Her coven, her family, was here and they were happy here. After being with them for so long, how could she possibly just leave them behind? 

Lucy had been so lost in thought that she hadn’t realized that someone was beside her until she felt a hand on her shoulder. Though she didn’t flinch or jump, she was still surprised by it. She looked up from the armchair she sat in to see Garrett standing beside her, a small and comforting smile on his face. 

“How about we take a walk,” he suggested softly. Lucy nodded, returning his smile before she stood up. They said a quick goodbye to the rest of the Cullens then headed out, quickly finding the trail they used the most and beginning their stroll. Usually their walks were never quiet, but Lucy just couldn’t find any words to fill the silence with. Finally, she opened her mouth to speak, but it seemed that Garrett also figured out what to say. 

“Garrett, I-”

“I know you-” They both stopped immediately, then burst into laughter. Lucy couldn’t help but shake her head at them, though he was the first one to speak again. 

“You go first,” he said softly. The girl nodded, then sighed softly as she contemplated what to say to him. 

“Garrett, I don’t want you to think I don’t love you. These past few months while we prepared for the confrontation have been quite possibly the best days of my life since before I was turned. You’re probably one of the best things that ever happened to me if I’m being honest here,” she laughed quietly before becoming serious once again. “But, at the same time, finding my coven was another one of the best things I’ve gotten to experience. They’re my family at this point. All of them, even the ones not related by blood. And I just don’t think…” The man gave her a small smile and squeezed her hand. 

“You don’t think you can leave them?” He guessed. Lucy nodded, happy that he understood what she couldn’t say aloud. Garrett stayed silent for a moment before speaking once again. 

“What if we stayed here, then? Both of us?” The girl’s eyes widened at his suggestion and she snapped her head up to look at him. 

“Wait, what?” 

“I can stay in Forks with you,” he clarified with a shrug. “I don’t really have anything keeping me in Virginia. You’re who I want to be with, so why not?” It was Lucy’s turn to stay quiet in thought. From what she understood, what he said was true. Garrett didn’t have a coven, and he fed off humans so he didn’t have any friends. So would moving to Forks really be that bad for him? Finally, she sighed.

“You’re sure you wouldn’t mind?” She asked hesitantly. That made Garrett stop, stepping in front of her afterwards. 

“Lucy, I would follow you to the ends of the earth if you wanted,” he admitted, taking both her hands in his. “Wherever you want to go, I’ll go. If you want to stay in Forks, I will stay with you. It doesn’t matter where we are. The last thing I want is for you to have to choose between me and your family.” His rant made her smile, reassurance and relief flooding through her. Without another word she threw her arms around him in a hug, which he returned with a quiet laugh. 

Lucy would be getting the best of both worlds. She got to be with her mate while still being close to her coven/family. And they were happy, all of them. It was finally her turn to be happy and in love with her mate, and she did it all without her sister’s help.

When You See Him Part 1- Garrett x OC

Garrett x Lucy 

Description: Lucy wants to know who her mate is, so she goes to her sister. Unfortunately, Alice can’t see them clearly, so she just has to wait until she meets them. 

Word Count: 2.4k

Lucy always said that her older sister’s precognition was both a blessing and a curse at the same time. Alice could see many things in the future and yes, most of the time it’s a good thing. She was able to see that Bella would be joining their coven, which was amazing because Edward deserved to be happy. She was also able to warn everyone of where Bella would meet James when the Swan girl had been tricked into meeting him at the ballet studio. 

But, they could also be very dangerous. Her visions are subjective and come with many faults. For example when Alice believed Bella had killed herself which, in turn, almost killed Edward. Thankfully they were able to work something out before either of them were killed by the Volturi, but now the three kings were keeping a close eye on the Cullens. It was because Alice couldn’t see the vision clearly due to the shifters in La Push (though no one blamed her, of course). 

It was a curse even before she was a vampire. People in their town accused her of being a witch or a changeling as they naively believed she put a curse on them. It caused their father to believe that Alice had gone mad after their mother’s death. Those visions were the reason that she was institutionalized which later was how both she and Lucy were transformed into vampires. 

That didn’t stop Lucy from wanting to know things about her future. When Lucy needed to know something, her sister was always there with an answer. Alice told her about how they would eventually find the Cullens and form a bond with them, and how she herself was going to find her mate, Jasper. 

And by this point both of those had come true. She, Alice and Jasper were bonded with the Cullens and now so was Bella. The newly married Cullen girl was pretty far along in her pregnancy and was clearly suffering because of it. That didn’t stop Edward from being near her and wordlessly showing his love for her. As a matter of fact, all the Cullens had been spending a lot of time with their respective mates. Everywhere she went she saw Emmett and Rosalie cuddling on the couch or Carlisle and Esme cooking together for Bella. 

Lucy desperately wanted it to be her turn, so she went to her sister. One day she got lucky. Most of the family was out of the house hunting. Aside from her, the only ones home were Edward, who was with Bella while she rested upstairs, and Alice, who didn’t need to feed. The older girl was sitting on the couch with her sketchbook open on her lap, but she closed it when Lucy sat down beside her. 

“Can you see a mate in my future?” Alice looked absolutely thrilled by the question as she nodded eagerly. 

“Of course! Here, face me,” she instructed, carefully moving the girl to face her then taking both her hands. “Look into my eyes.” The girl did as she said, staring into the gorgeous golden eyes they now shared. 

She was used to doing this when she asked for a vision or information in general, but something different happened this time. As she watched her older sister search the future, she noticed Alice’s brows knitting together in confusion. A concerned frown slowly formed on Alice’s face the more she searched. What scared Lucy was how long it was taking. Usually her sister could find what she was looking for in a matter of seconds because they just came naturally to her. Finally Alice snapped out of her search and pulled away from her. 

“I…I can’t see it. It’s not clear enough,” she spoke, sounding upset about it. 

“Wh-What?” Lucy asked softly, disbelief and disappointment resounding through her tone. Alice shook her head with a small sigh.

“I think it may be because they’ve been dealing with wolves so much that it’s now messing with my visions. It’s happened a few times since Bella got pregnant,” she tried to explain, though she sounded unsure. A weak smile appeared on the younger vampire’s face as she took her hand. 

“It’s okay, Alice,” she muttered reassuringly. Alice sighed, then returned the girl’s smile as best she could. 

“Can I offer you a piece of advice?”

“Always,” Lucy answered immediately. 

“You’ll know who your mate is when you find them. Everything will just…click. That’s what happens when you meet them. Sure, I had the advantage of seeing Jasper in a vision before we met, but that doesn’t mean the feeling wasn’t there. And you can ask Carlisle, Rosalie, and Edward and they’ll tell you the same thing. Trust me, when you see them, you’ll just know.” 

Lucy considered her words, then finally nodded. Of course she trusted her older sister’s word, but that didn’t mean that she wasn’t still disappointed. She was really hoping that she could have an estimate of what her mate looked like or when she would meet them. 

Much to her dismay, it seemed that she would just have to do it the hard way. Of course that didn’t mean that she didn’t try again over the next few weeks, hoping that there’d be a different outcome each time. Unfortunately it was to no avail; the vision wasn’t clear enough for her to have an answer. 

Eventually the question was forced to the back of her mind as Bella unexpectedly had to have an emergency c-section after she collapsed.  Edward, Jacob, and Rosalie were the ones to do it as Carlisle was out feeding. It was excruciatingly painful for Bella, so Lucy made herself useful by keeping a hold of her hand and talking her through it (despite the fact that she was unconscious). Finally, not long after the procedure, Bella woke up to see her new baby girl. She only had time to name the baby, Renesmee, before her heart suddenly stopped. 

Edward quickly pushed the baby into Lucy’s arms, demanding her to get out as Jacob began attempting CPR. The younger vampire did as she was told and ran out, using the time to clean up the baby and swaddle her. After a short while Jacob suddenly burst into the living room, where Rosalie, Lucy and Renesmee were. He had an angry look in his eyes, but they immediately softened when he looked at the baby. It didn’t take the girls long to realize what happened: Jacob imprinted on Renesmee. That finally got the wolf pack off their backs as their biggest law was to not harm anyone who had been imprinted on, but that didn’t mean they were any less happy about it (them and the Cullens). 

It took two days for Bella to wake up again. During that time Lucy, Alice and Esme cleaned her up and dressed her before bringing her up to Edward’s room. She woke up when her transformation into a vampire was complete. 

It took a while for everyone to get used to Renesmee. It had been so long since any of them had been near a child like this, and it didn’t help when the little girl began growing at a rapid pace. Nevertheless they continued to do their best with her. That changed within just one moment. One fateful evening, Alice received a vision of the Volturi and Irina coming to kill the Cullens. Apparently Irina had seen Renesmee and mistook her for an immortal child, something that her old coven member Sasha had been killed for. 

Alice instructed the others to gather as many witnesses as they can to testify that Renesmee is not an immortal child. Then, the next morning she and Jasper were gone, supposedly to gather evidence. Lucy was nervous about what was to come. They were literally preparing to meet the Kings and they weren’t on their good side. Nevertheless she did her best in attempting to do as her sister said. 

So they went about summoning witnesses. It was a rather tedious process meeting so many vampires despite it being in such a short amount of time, but it was for an important cause so Lucy kept her mouth shut. Besides, she got to meet a lot of great people. An Egyptian coven, Denali coven, a few American and European nomads, and many more agreed to join the Cullens as their witnesses, which finally actually gave Lucy some hope for the eventual confrontation. 

“Alright, now I believe we only have one person unaccounted for,” Carlisle spoke thoughtfully as the rest of his coven (save for Alice and Jasper, who were still M.I.A. at the moment) sat in various places around their living room. Lucy’s brows furrowed as she stared at him curiously. 

“Who is it?”

“His name is Garrett. He’s an old friend of mine,” the older man answered, taking a seat beside Esme and wrapping an arm around her. “I’ve known him longer than I even know Edward. We met many years ago during the Revolutionary War when I was working as a field doctor and he-” his explanation was cut short by the doorbell ringing. 

“He’s here,” Edward concluded. Carlisle stood up once again and walked to the front door. Then Lucy could hear a new voice greet the doctor and a new scent entered her senses: leather, sambac and white musk. It wasn’t what she was used to, but she still found it very pleasant. More than pleasant actually. She felt like she couldn’t get enough of it. 

Everyone stood up politely as the duo approached and within seconds Carlisle had returned with another man behind him. He was considerably tall, having at least six inches on Carlisle (she  would be correct in guessing he was around 6’5”), with brown hair that reached the nape of his neck in the back and deep ruby red eyes. Lucy had to admit he was attractive, and she found herself infatuated with his scent once again. She didn’t even like earthy tones like that, but he just made them work. It was silent as he examined the room, but it was broken just a minute later. 

“Most of you already know him, but for those who don’t, this is Garrett,” Carlisle introduced. After he said that, Garrett met Lucy’s eyes. The girl wanted to turn away, a little too embarrassed that she was caught staring at him, but she just couldn’t find it in herself to tear her gaze away from him. A miniscule smile appeared on the man’s face before he finally finished his sweep of the room. 

“I see a few new faces,” he mentioned in a soft, deep voice. 

“Of course,” the doctor agreed before leading him over to where Edward, Bella and Renesmee stood. They introduced themselves and Renesmee lifted a hand to press against Garrett’s cheek, likely to show him her memories from the moment she was born. Envy coursed through Lucy at the gesture, which confused her. She kept her mouth shut in spite of that as the younger girl’s hand dropped and they began conversing. 

As Lucy watched the interaction, she found that she couldn’t actually focus on what was being said. Within seconds this new person had distracted her to the point that she almost forgot what she was there for. That just wouldn’t do. For what was about to come, she needed to be focused. Maybe she just needed some air, or maybe she just needed to feed. Either way, she needed a minute away from Garrett, and it baffled her that she felt that easy despite knowing him for less than five minutes. She leaned over to Rosalie who stood just a few feet away from her beside Emmett.

“I need to feed,” she muttered. “I’ll be right back.” Rosalie merely nodded in response then Lucy was out of the front door and into the woods that surrounded the house. 

It didn’t take Lucy long at all to feed. As it turned out, she actually wasn’t that hungry so a rabbit or two satiated her. Now she’d just been wandering around for the last ten minutes, lost in thought. Somehow, all of her thoughts ended up back at Garrett. Until today she hadn’t had the chance to meet him as she didn’t travel very often, but gods did she wish she did years ago so she could even have the chance of meeting him. She had no idea what it was about him that enamored her so much. It was all just confusing and-

Lucy was quite suddenly snapped out of her thoughts by someone clearing their throat behind her. She whipped around, surprised, then quickly realized it was Garrett. He stood a few yards away from her, leaning against a nearby tree. Her eyes widened a bit since she hadn’t expected to be followed, even less so by him. She was quick to shake it off in an attempt to act casual. 

“Oh, hello,” she greeted with a small smile. “Garrett, right?” 

“That’s right,” he answered, replicating her smile as he stepped closer to her. “And I don’t believe I ever got your name.”

“Oh, sorry about that,” the girl laughed (praying that it didn’t sound as nervous as she was). “I’m Lucy.” By the time she finished speaking he was standing in front of her, that same grin still on his face. 

“It’s wonderful to meet you.” He held out his hand for her to shake. To Lucy’s surprise, when she grabbed it he instead lifted it to press a kiss to her knuckles. And with that one touch, everything came together and Lucy finally understood what was going on with them: Garrett was her mate. At that moment she understood what Alice had been saying. Her sister had been right about things just clicking into place. Everything Lucy hadn’t even realized was wrong suddenly became right as she stared into his eyes. Even the things that were already right just became enhanced. 

It seemed that things clicked in place for Garrett as well because his grip on her hand faltered for just a moment before he regained it. Their hands fell, but didn’t let go as they continued to gaze at each other for another minute. 

“It’s wonderful to meet you as well,” Lucy finally spoke again. Her sincerity dripped in her tone, which made the man chuckle. 

“Well, I definitely wasn’t expecting this when Carlisle called to ask for my help, but I can’t say that I’m mad about it.” 

“Tell me about it,” the girl laughed. Their laughter died soon after, then Garrett suddenly held his elbow out for her. 

“Would you like to take a walk?” The girl’s smile widened as she nodded, linking her arm in his. 

“I would love to.” And with that they were off.

Benjamin x Ramona 

Description: Ramona meets her mate in the most unlikely situation.

Ever since Renesmee had been born, things for the Olympic coven were… interesting to say the least. No one knew how to really deal with her as it had been so long since any of them had been near a child like this. It definitely didn’t help when Renesmee began growing at a rapid pace. That didn’t stop them from living her as if she were blood related. Ramona absolutely adored the young girl, even citing herself as the favorite aunt (Rosalie was annoyed when she finally managed to get Renesmee say it). She would do anything to protect her niece. 

That’s why, when Alice received a vision of the Volturi and Irina coming to kill the Cullens, she was on edge. Apparently Irina had seen Renesmee and mistook her for an immortal child, something that her old coven member Sasha had been killed for. Alice instructed the others to gather as many witnesses as possible to testify that Renesmee was not an immortal child. Then, the next morning she and Jasper were gone to gather evidence. 

So they went about summoning witnesses. Carlisle thought it best to divide and conquer, splitting up to cover more ground. Bella and Edward were tasked with going directly to Irina’s coven and personally showing them that their daughter wasn’t immortal, and Emmett and Rosalie went around searching for a few American nomads Carlisle knew while Lucy handled the European ones. Carlisle and Esme opted to go to Egypt to talk to a man named Amun as apparently he was a bit harder to convince. Finally, Ramona was paired with Eleanor to go to the Amazon to speak to Zafrina and Senna as they were more familiar with them. 

It took twelve hours for them to arrive at the Amazon from Washington. Thankfully their feet were much quicker than a plane so it only took them another hour or so to locate the Amazon coven deep in the forests. It seemed that Zafrina and Senna had already heard what was going on as they’d been expecting Eleanor and Ramona’s arrival. 

“We need your help,” Ramona started nervously. 

“You can say that again,” Zafrina laughed softly. “This is the second time the Volturi has set their sights on you.” 

“It isn’t our fault,” Eleanor defended. “This time, at least.” 

“Edward and Bella’s child isn’t immortal,” Ramona agreed. “She was born when Bella was still a human. We have no idea how it was possible, but she has blood in her veins and she is warm. And we can prove it to you if you let us.”

“If you come back to Washington to meet her, you’ll understand,” Eleanor finally concluded. Senna and Zafrina shared a look, then faced the girls. Thankfully that was all it took to convince the girls to at least come back to Forks with them to meet Renesmee and give their own judgment. 

So, the very next day they found themselves back in Forks. Emmett, Rosalie, Carlisle, Esme, Edward, Bella and Renesmee had already returned with a few people, so it seemed like all they were waiting for Ramona and Eleanor with Zafrina and Senna. Ramona was happy to be acquainted with old friends and new allies alike. Ramona was happy to see some familiar faces like Garrett and, surprisingly, Alistair. She couldn’t exactly say the same for Carmen, Kate, Eleazar and Tanya, a.k.a. Irina's coven. But, according to Bella, they know Renesmee isn’t immortal. 

“So,” Ramona started slowly, eyeing the Denali coven for a moment before facing Rosalie. “Where’s Carlisle? I’m sure he’ll be happy to see Zafrina and Senna.” 

“In the living room. They’re introducing Amun to Renesmee,” the girl answered. She offered the girl a small smile before heading towards the living room. Upon arriving she was met with Carlisle, Bella, Edward and Renesmee along with four unfamiliar faces, two men and two women. Renesmee was touching the youngest looking boy’s cheek, likely transferring her thoughts to him. No one seemed to notice her presence quite yet so Ramona kept quiet, choosing to just watch the interaction. 

Her eyes were practically glued to the man Renesmee was touching. She then watched as her niece’s hand dropped and his hand lifted. A small ball of fire emerged from his palm, likely as a way to even out the playing field. An eye for an eye, type of thing. Edward then turned to Bella, explaining that the boy’s power was being able to manipulate the elements. The show of power earned a giggle from the young girl. The sound brought a smile to Ramona’s lips, she always said Renesmee’s laugh was the most beautiful sound she ever heard. That was, until she heard the still unnamed man chuckle along with her. That’s when she focused on him once again. 

He was handsome, that much was true. He, as well as the rest of his coven, wore mostly dark clothes, which complimented their beautifully tanned skin wonderfully. His eyes were red, but that wasn’t exactly a surprise to her. Just about every one of their allies fed from humans. What did surprise her was how beautiful they were despite their unnatural color. They were deep burgundy, yet they still somehow seemed to have flecks of gold sprinkled in them, likely from when he was still a human. 

Just a moment later, those beautiful burgundy eyes met her. Her eyes widened and she knew that if she was still human, she would be blushing like mad at the fact that she’d been caught staring. Him catching sight of her caused a chain reaction. One by one the others in the room turned to face her, but only Carlisle spoke. 

“Ah, Ramona,” he greeted with a small smile before facing the older unnamed man. “She is another one of mine. She can create force fields for both defense and offense.” 

“Impressive,” the man said simply before facing her again. Carlisle followed suit as he gestured her closer to the group, to which she complied. 

“Ramona, this is Amun, leader of the Egyptian coven. Beside him is his mate, Kebi, and their children Tia and Benjamin,” he went down the line of people. Amun merely nodded at her in acknowledgement, Kebi and Tia both offered her a polite smile and shook her hand, and once she got to Benjamin, they both paused. Their eyes met for a second time, and Benjamin managed to muster up a small smile before holding out his hand. 

“It’s nice to meet you,” he said in a gentle tone as she took his hand. 

Immediately an electric shock went up her arm, though it wasn’t unpleasant. Quite the opposite actually. It was like she was brought back to life with just a simple touch. It felt like she was sitting by the fire after trudging through snow, or like she was coming home after a long journey. An unfamiliar feeling seeped through her chest nestled deep into her heart. She felt like she could trust him even though they’d only just met. She felt an unconditional and deep connection of mind and soul with him, and based on the look in his eyes, Benjamin felt the same. Was this what falling in love felt like? 

Out of the corner of her eye, she noticed Edward turn to face Amun. She couldn’t hear exactly what was said, but one word caught her attention: mate. That’s when it finally clicked for her. She and Benjamin were mates. Benjamin seemed to have the thought because she watched his eyes light up. A small smile formed on both of their faces in unison before their hands were broken apart by Amun. 

“There will be time to worry about that later,” he said dismissively. “We must focus on the task at hand.” With that, he grabbed Benjamin’s hand and led him, Kebi and Tia out of the living room to where the rest of their allies were. Ramona could only watch in shock as the boy glanced back at her helplessly before he disappeared around the corner. 

“He’ll come around,” Carlisle said from behind her, resting his hands on her shoulder comfortingly. “Amun has been through a lot during his life as a vampire, and that’s hindered him from letting go of Benjamin for long.”

“You’d think it’d be different since it’s Benjamin’s mate,” Bella commented, stating exactly what Ramona was thinking. 

“Yes, well, I believe things will work out,” Carlisle responded simply. “He’ll come around when he’s ready, but I believe Benjamin will help speed up the process.” And Ramona believed him. 

Just a few days later, several people gathered outside to train for whatever may come with a confrontation with the Volturi. Ramona and Zafrina stood across each other while Carlisle, Eleanor, Bella, Edward, Garrett and Lucy stood around them, watching eagerly. Bella had never seen either girl using their powers before, so she was most excited. At the moment, Zafrina had been trying to force an illusion onto Ramona. But, since she had force fields on her side, she was able to see right through it with a simple shield in front of her eyes. Both of their concentration broke when they heard more people coming outside. It was Kebi and Benjamin, much to Ramona’s delight. 

“What are you guys doing?” Kebi asked curiously. 

“I’m working on strengthening my powers,” Ramona answered. 

“Maybe I could be of help with that,” Benjamin offered before Kebi could say anything. The others were surprised by his interjection considering none of them had seen much of him since his coven had arrived, but Carlisle nodded with a small smile. 

“That would be great.” Ramona nodded in agreement, then gestured to where Zafrina stood. He took his cue and stood where the Amazonian girl stood once she stepped to the side. 

“Shall I go easy on you?” He asked, a playful smile on his face so she knew that he was just joking. A small smirk appeared on her face. 

“I should ask you the same,” she retorted in the same teasing tone. “Take your best shot.” 

Benjamin nodded, taking a deep breath as he thought of what to do. After a moment, and without warning, he summoned water from what Ramona  assumed was the ground, forming a medium sized ball and shooting it at her. Her eyes widened and her hands shot forward before the water could hit her, creating a shield around her body and effectively blocking it from hitting her. Before it could fall back to the ground the boy’s hand shot up, relaunching the water at her. Rather than just deflecting it again, Ramona’s hands rounded around each other and the water was trapped in a force field the size of the sphere of water he’d shot at her the first time like water in a fishbowl. She threw the “ball” towards him, and in his shock he had no time to shield himself before the water got to him. Just before it hit him Ramona removed the force field that held the water, but it didn’t stop the water’s momentum so it hit him full force, almost knocking him back. Using his distraction to her advantage, she created another medium sized force field and shot it at him. The force was enough to almost send him flying, but instead it just knocked him back hard enough to hit a tree that stood a few feet behind him. Ramona watched as he fell to the ground in surprise, and her eyes widened. 

“Oh my god, are you okay?” She asked worriedly, rushing over to him with the others behind her. She crouched down beside him as he sat up, looking barely disoriented but very awed at Ramona. 

“That was amazing,” he marveled, which surprised her. 

“Wait, what?” 

“I’ve never seen such an impressive show of power. Your instincts are spectacular, even for a vampire.” Ramona’s cheeks heated up shyly and she offered him a small smile. 

“Yeah, well, when you’re forced to protect both yourself and others, you have to think quickly,” she answered simply. After a quick assessment the group determined that Benjamin wasn’t injured. That made Ramona sigh in relief and stand, offering her hand to him afterwards. He grabbed it and stood with her help. Once again that spark rushed through them with just a simple touch of their hands, which brought yet another smile to their faces. 

“I believe that’s enough for right now,” Carlisle spoke up. “Wonderful job, Ramona.” She offered him a thankful smile, to which he smiled. With that, he began heading inside with everyone else following him. Ramona and Benjamin walked side by side at the back of the group, their hands never disconnecting. She hadn’t expected to meet her mate, especially like this, but it was turning into a much better experience with every interaction they had.
