writing prompt: sticky fingers, fantasy, fight scene

prompted by a someone on LINE chat group.

first fic for our original works that we post here and it has to be dodgy material. Sigh.

[possible triggers: wounds, blood and innuendo]

He felt it where he had lost feeling since a long time ago. The pain jolted him awake. Aidan glanced over at the sleeping figure beside him. Soft snoring, chest rising and settling at a regular pace.

Didn't wake Sierra. Good.

Aidan rolled to his side to prop himself up. Still strength in his arms, though just barely. Clearly he was getting rusty and needed more exercise. He took a deep breath before peeking under the sheets, lifting up the waistband of his pants.

Nothing seems wrong.

"We're taking the shortcut through the forested mountains, where there are at least a few hundred Shedim monsters, and you say the two of you - a girl and a cripple - can guard the goods through this?"

"A rogue and a mage," Sierra corrected the quartermaster. "I am strong, and this guy here looks frail, but once he opens his mouth you'll be fleeing with your pants wet in horror."

"Will you not give people such a disproportionate introduction of me," Aidan sighed in vain, knowing that his wife would speak as she liked regardless.

She grinned at him. Aidan pulled down his mask to reveal his scarred mouth, gnashing his teeth at her playfully. They laughed.

Like expected, the Shedim horde came out at night. Aidan felt it in the bramble wall he had built around camp.

He alerted Sierra, who was never asleep. She disappeared wordlessly into the darkness of the dense forest. He jumped onto his donkey which he was resting beside, readying his staff in his hand.

A choreography that the couple was too familiar with. Sierra, who was sneaky and fast, would extinguish the enemies one by one, each knowing none the better: stealth offense. Aidan, whose spells are flashy and movements confined by his paraplegic body: offensive defence.

So he roused the rest of the camp and had them gather in the middle where it was easier for him protect. As every creature of the shade approach, Aidan would finish them off with a ball of light from his staff.

Twenty minutes later, when the camp was surrounded by the carcasses of the slayed Shedim, he could hear sounds of Sierra fighting in the forest. If she was that near, it could mean the end of the horde. Or that the horde was simply that big.

Or strong. She was fighting just one of them. Mazikin class? The humanoid shade was keeping Sierra at a distance with spike projectiles. Sierra had switched weapons to using a crossbow instead of her favoured katar and dagger.

The sight of Sierra fighting a ranged battle makes Aidan want to laugh, but he stopped when he realised she was not fighting, but kiting. Okay, so she was basically luring the boss monster here for him. Thanks, wife, very sweet of you. (As if he hasn't gotten enough kills yet.)

Time for serious business. Aidan pulled down his mask. ”Sarefah…” he incanted. A large fireball formed above him.

"Watch out!" Sierra cried out. His spellcasting did not go unnoticed by the Mazikin, which had decided to go after the more dangerous target. Spiked spines grew out of its back and flew forward at him. Aidan urged the donkey backwards. Unfortunately, his steed panicked and tripped, throwing him onto the ground.

Aidan grimaced. The boss monster may have him faced down kissing grass, but his spell was already charged. "Ba'arah!”

The fireball barreled into the Mazikin.

The resulting flare lit up the night sky. What a big fireball, he thought. But slower than Sierra, he hoped.

"Aaahh!!" he heard her shout.

"Did I accidentally set you on fire?" Aidan pushed himself up with his hands, resisting the urge to tease her.

"Not me, dumbass! You!”

"Me...?" He quickly rolled over and gave his body a once over.

THOSE SPIKES IT THREW. One of them is piercing through his left thigh. It is also on fire.

"Aaaaaaaahhhhh…!!!"

He threw out a freezing spell instinctively.

(Later, Sierra would nag him about using ice on an open wound. Hey, he is a warlock kind of mage, not a healer kind of mage, what would he know about first aid.)

Nothing seems wrong, but it is not like Aidan can see all that clearly. He flipped their shared blanket open and lit a light in his palm.

Being the hyperalert rogue she is, Sierra woke up.

"Ai? What's wrong?"

"Umm. I can feel a pain. In my leg."

She sat up. "How can you feel your legs even?"

”I don't know…?"

Without warning, she lifted up his back and pulled down his pants. She gave his non-punctured right thigh a pinch. Then a few more kneads.

"I don't know what you are trying to do there, I can't feel it, but anyway I might be getting aroused if you continue that."

"I'll touch you higher if I wanted to do that," Sierra chuckled. "Okay, so still no feeling here. How about this one?" She switched to touching his left bandaged thigh.

"It hurts. And I still am not feeling your hands. Feels like the pain is inside or somewhere else."

"Hmm," she undid his bandages, and took a closer look at his wound.

The bleeding had stopped, although the sight of raw flesh pulsing without the layer of skin made Aidan grateful – just a little – that he was paralysed hip down; no doubt it would hurt like hell if he could feel it.

"There's something inside," Sierra shifted so that she was in between his legs. Aidan would make a snipe about it, but he is in pain so he shuts up.

"You can't feel it, but when I touch your skin I can feel some unnatural movement." She swung his left calf over her shoulder so she could see his thigh at eye level. "And yea, I know your legs well enough to know what's not normal with it."

She is definitely doing this on purpose, he swears. Knelt in front of him, with his legs spread open and one swung over her shoulder. "C'mon, give me a light here," that grin on her face confirmed his suspicions.

He raised his fist, and opened his palm to give her a light.

"Okay. I think I can take it out," Sierra assessed, fingers circling his puncture wound lightly.

Before he could question "how", her thumb went in. He gasped at the sudden intrusion. "Wait, not. So… fast… I wasn't ready… for, t-that…”

The parasite in his thigh seems to sense its impending removal, so it had began squirming, with each movement sending an electric pulse through his supposedly defunct nerves to his brain. "Gu- hrrgh…!" a sound between a gasp and a grunt​ rang in his throat.

Sierra added her index finger to the hole, stretching the entry point. Tears welled up in his eyes, and Aidan bit into his perforated lips to hold back his voice from escaping. He had one hand clawing and grasping at what feels like Sierra's skin fiercely enough he thinks he drew blood (good, gotta give her a taste of the pain she is indirectly inflicting on him now), while the other struggled to hold up the light in his palm for her.

Her fingers went in deeper, probing inside of him. "Hurry up – find it quick!" He begged.

"I'm trying!" To her credit, Sierra did sound distressed about his pain. He saw blood spurting from his wound, her hand and face partially dyed dark red with the stench. The sensation in his left thigh is starting to be felt somewhere higher on his body, a little too close – he could feel the pounding of his pulse, in there, rising-

"– Got it!" Sierra forcefully pulled the parasite out. His breath hitched, and the light went out.

Aidan would like to study the parasite to learn of its properties and how it worked, but the instant Sierra extracted it she ground it into minced meat with her dagger while telling it, "No one rapes my husband except me."

… He mentally rescinds any feelings of gratitude he had for her.

She turns to him and giggles, holding up two sticky fingers in a V shape for victory, covered with his rotten blood and the secretions of the parasite.

His own left hand was a little more sightly, fingertips covered with a fresh crimson. "Do me a favour, and clean us both up," he said.

"Okay," Sierra stood up to walk to where their towels hung. Blood trickled down her right thigh where he had scratched her earlier. A reflection of his own injury, he mused.

i refuse to accept Beta wearing zettai ryouiki, it is illogical for a warrior. Unlimited panty flashes. Leggings work better.

i always refer to Beta as waifu, and then suddenly i thought: If Beta is waifu and Alpha another her, does that mean Alpha is husbando? What an annoying thought, but we’ll have to accept it. Mum always says Alpha reminds her of us because he flies all over the damn screen like he has ADHD.

batch of siblings sketches.

Jann, Chen and Yuan. Jann (eldest) detests Chen (youngest, with turtle plush toy) but is fond of Yuan (middle child). Chen is just a weird kid, so it is understandable. Yuan is usually a headstrong and clever woman, but she completely spoils her younger brother. Of the three siblings, Jann looks most like their mum while Yuan looks most like their dad. Chen’s weirdness is 100% inherited from paternal grandma and 300% inherited from mum.

Knox and Lynn? I think those are their names. @artofgamingreader‘s characters. I guess this is exams encouragement giftart. =DD Your sibling’s hair is always more fun to play with than your own. (Now you know what we do to our sisters.)

Blaze and Earnest. They get along very well, but also fought very often. Earnest (younger brother, polydactyl) is usually quiet and keeps to himself, yet when with Blaze (older brother) he holds nothing back. He does say a lot of things that tick people off, and Blaze reacts because he is just simple-minded like that. Blaze really isn’t very smart, so Earnest gets frustrated with him often. Because both inherited pyrokinesis from their father, their fights end up destroying property when they were kids. Their dad got super mad and they were banned from creating fire anywhere within 20 metres of each other. So when they are teens, they fight normally by shouting.

(got lazy with hatching here. Also, tablet stealthily reset and screwed up the mapping so this drawing sucks.) Nemesis and Dorothea (Chernon). Although Cher is adopted/kidnapped as a baby, they are very close sisters. After Dora loses her eyesight, she uses Nemi as her guide dog. She does have magic adaptations to scan her environment with, but it much more fun to hang on to the arm of your elder sister!

It would be his last night here, Ray thinks. When this last night is over, everything will go forward to how it should be. His incandescent bulb dims and the creaking of his joints grow silent. He hears the repetitive tune of the star singing, takes in the smell of the roast chicken, and is pleased to note that both his mistresses are alive and well, and his friend with him this time.

What a nice dream! He saved them just the way a good doggie would. You’re welcome!

63!Phantom – Leanan Sidhe. As a fae whose life is dependent on human love, i headcanon that Phantom can change genders. After all, why limit yourself to only half of the human population? Though, he mostly takes on female form to piss Mercedes off.

I have apparently drawn enough PhanAria to sink our mum’s PhanMerc ship. She now believes that Phantom won’t be able to get over Aria so it isn’t possible for him to be in another relationship. Sorry mum.

Alpha and Beta getting ready for a day together. Headcanon that they are asexual, because Rhinne reproduced asexually (lol). So they aren’t conscious of themselves around each other at all. Here i suppose they are discussing Dello’s homework for them.        “Hey Alpha, about that history reading assignment yesterday...”        “Yea?”        “Why did Dello say there are five heroes, when we read about six at the Grand Athenaeum?        “Uh... Maybe Dello’s textbooks are out of date...?”

MapleStory – Tarot Arcanas

i am not one who’s much for tarot card readings, but for Persona games? Heck yes. Descriptions for the arcana shamelessly taken from SMT Wikia with additional descriptions from my friend hurhurhur. These are just a personal take, readers may agree or disagree, because we are clearly not an expert on divination.

(Sengoku characters are not included because… Well, hard to fit them into canon.)

0: The Fool – Zero The Fool represents innocence, divine inspiration, madness, freedom, spontaneity, inexperience, chaos, and creativity. Symbolizes an individual beginning or in the process of a great journey. The Fool knows not what is ahead and has no plans or destinations; instead, picking these up along the way.

Apart from the obvious connection that Zero is, well, 0, The Fool arcana fits them because they are on their hero’s journey, and as a transcendent, they still have a long way to go. They are still inexperienced of the ways of humans and it looks like the corruption in them (placed upon by Will) isn’t completely resolved either.

I: The Magician – Evan The Magician Arcana is commonly associated with action, initiative, self-confidence, manipulation and power (more specifically, the power to harness one’s talents). The ability to bring what you desire into reality.

Evan is very driven, and takes up his predecessor’s heavy mantle willingly. He knows what has to be done and does his best to gather the heroes to protect their world. Nihal Desert, where he uncovers Abraxas, is shown in the background as the place where Evan comes to the decision to lead the heroes into fulfilling their role as the Heroes of Maple.

II: The High Priestess – Rhinne The Priestess Arcana is a symbol of hidden knowledge or other untapped power, wisdom, female mystery and patience.

Before there was any plot in MapleStory, we have always seen statues of Rhinne in Time Temple. As more Legend/Heroes classes and the Demon class were released, the stories unveil more of Rhinne’s involvement in their battle against the Black Mage, and the mystery surrounding her unravels. Despite being sealed by him all along, she was still able to lend her powers to help Freud create the seal for Black Mage.​ While still sealed, Rhinne bided her time with patience and entrusted her role to her successors.

III: The Empress – Mercedes The Empress represents mothers, prosperity, creativity, sexuality, abundance, fertility and comfort (most often in helping maintain peace around them like an ideal mother would).

Mercedes is the most mature of the heroes, and as Queen of the Elves, she looks out for all those around her like a mother.

IV: The Emperor – Freud The Emperor Arcana represents power and authority, along with wisdom and experience. It also symbolizes the desire to control one’s surroundings, and its appearance could suggest that one is trying too hard to achieve this, possibly causing trouble for others; some elements in life are just not controllable. 

As a scholar, Freud researches and seeks information about everything. His takes issue with the existence of trancendents and wants to distribute that power amongst more shows his wish to control, to change the status quo that he cannot accept. He also shows a fatherly nature towards the rest of the heroes, in line with the Emperor arcana.

V: The Hierophant – Luminous The Hierophant is a symbol of education, authority, conservatism, obedience to rules and relationship with the divine. The definition of a “hierophant” is a person who interprets sacred mysteries or esoteric principles.

​Luminous has a power of the transcendent, a divine power. Since the Hierophant is also High Priest arcana, his magician of light title and his sealing of the Black Mage fits. And his personality is also somewhat a stick in the mud, which fits the traits of this arcana.

VI: The Lovers – Phantom Initially, the Lovers Arcana represents two paths life could lead to, and thus a symbol of standing at a crossroad and needing to make a decision. To hesitate and make a decision between the “right�� way and the “easy” way.        Contemporarily, it is a symbol of love and romantic relationships, although it can also be a symbol of finding agreement with an ordinary friend or even two conflicting elements within. To choose to trust, and make yourself vulnerable for someone or something you wish to devote yourself to.

​This arcana was destined for Phantom because of the appearance of the card he threw at Freud in his animated cutscene. Phantom's desire for a free lifestyle and his love for Aria forces him to choose a path that he would not have taken otherwise.

VII: The Chariot – Aran The Chariot Arcana is a symbol of victory, conquest, self-assertion, self-confidence, control, war and command. To triumph in battle a between between things that oppose. To break through obstacles and overcome stagnation (either in yourself or in an ordeal versus others), moving forward as a chariot does.

Pre-Big Bang, Aran’s name was already known in Perion, mentioned as a legendary warrior. She never hesitates and only ever keeps going forward. Not even a loss of memory and identity changes that.

VIII: Justice – Nineheart and Claudine The Justice Arcana symbolizes a strict allegory of justice, objectivity, rationality and analysis. Doing what needs to be done, regardless of the situation, in order to abolish chaos and establish order.

​Nineheart can be mean and calculative, but he always does what is good for the sake of the world. Claudine is similar in her own way.

IX: The Hermit – Xenon The Hermit is associated with wisdom, introspection, solitude, retreat and philosophical searches. To remove oneself from the mainstream and take time to reflect. He might be misunderstood or berated for deviating from societal norms, but he is also able to shed light on things from an angle ordinary people do not see.

As a cyborg, Xenon is removed from human feelings and emotions. Yet he does not avoid thinking and continues searching for his past. His base, Veritas means "truth" in Latin and this card also symbolizes a search for truth.

X: Wheel of Fortune – Kyle (Kaiser) The Wheel of Fortune symbolizes fate, luck, fortune and opportunity. To seize their own destiny in spite of fate.

Kyle is a normal nova boy who was suddenly a legendary figure. With the role entrusted to him, Kyle makes the best of his situation to lead his people into victory.

XI: Strength – Demon Slayer/Avenger The Strength Arcana is associated with the morality about the stronger power of self-control, gentleness, courage and virtue over brute force. The balance of compassion and brute force. Coming to terms with the “beast within”; controlling the use of one’s inner power and primal instincts. It can also represent creative or physical energy that needs to be or is about to be unleashed, sometimes out of desire to be recognized.

Though born as a strong demon, Demon decided that he would not let its power consume him, and choose his family and friends over the Black Mage.

XII: The Hanged Man – EunWol The Hanged Man Arcana is associated with self-sacrifice for the sake of enlightenment, the bindings that makes one free, paradoxes and hanging between heaven and earth. To take the time necessary to reflect over one’s upcoming actions.

There’s no better arcana to describe what EunWol has done. As a result of his sacrifice, he becomes displaced from time, a paradox of sorts.

XIII: Death – Kinesis While it is associated with foreboding and of doom, Death Arcana also symbolizes the metamorphosis and deep change, regeneration and cycles.  Death signifies not just an ending, but also rebirth. Just as the Sun sets every night, it is reborn again in the next morning.

The introduction of Kinesis introduces great change to the Seoul World. As the first psychic, his existence heralds more strange happenings in his world. Death does not discern between classes - pawns to bishops alike are not spared from Death’s reach.

XIV: Temperance – Afrien and Mir The Temperance Arcana is a symbol of synthesis, prudence, harmony, and the merging of opposites. The harmony (or tempering) of multiple elements instead of sacrificing any one for any other, to generate a whole that is more than the sum of used parts.

The bond between Afrien and Freud is a merger of two wills, representing the unity of both people and creatures in their battle against a great evil. Despite the differences between Afrien/Freud and Mir/Evan, the same will is passed on from the ancestors and lives on in the descendants, drawing together the past and future.

XV: The Devil – Magnus and Hilla The familiar interpretation of the Devil Arcana is its negative aspect, which represents the urge to do selfish, impulsive, violent things, and being a slave to ones’ own impulse and feelings. Occasionally, it is also portrayed as a symbol of temptation. The positive aspect, however, represents a healthy bond or commitment.

Backstabbing champion Magnus deserves this arcana. On the other hand, Hilla is probably one of the most loyal of the Black Mage Commanders.

alternatively… XV: The Devil – Orchid and Lotus

As Wing Commanders, Lotus gave in to his homicidal tendencies and did whatever he liked. Both siblings were only concerned with their own fun and were rather uncaring for anyone else but each other. Yet that bond between the two of them is pure and holds fast, until death did they part.

XVI: The Tower – White/Black Mage The Tower Arcana is commonly associated to overly arrogant, prejudiced and authoritarian organisation, which walk to their own ironic demise. Furthermore, it is also more generically used as an omen of doom and disaster. It can be seen as the worst card of the deck, as it rarely has a positive meaning.        But sometimes, an existing form has to be struck down in order to make way for a ones. Then, there is a sudden glimpse of the truth.

​Black Mage is a fallen tower from his once respected White Mage self. With his search for truth, it ends up causing his fall into becoming who he is now.

XVII: The Star – Cygnus The Star Arcana is also commonly associated with hope, self-confidence, faith, altruism, luck, generosity, peace and joy. The star is a guiding light; an assuring sign that one is on the right path, or a glimmering hope for lost souls. Can also symbolize long-term goals; a future that one needs to focus on and mustn’t lose sight of.

​As a symbol of the Maple World, Cygnus represents hope and goodness in amidst the darkness brought on by the resurrection of the Black Mage.

XVIII: The Moon – Damien The Moon Arcana is associated with creativity, inspiration, dreams, madness, illusions, fear, fantasy, the subconscious, and trickery. It can also represent being attuned subconsciously to the world around, gaining the ability to sense things without being told about them or without anyone else knowing.

Damien’s symbol is that of the moon. He dreams of a fair and happy world, but falls into madness eventually, disillusioned by the draw of power.

XIX: The Sun – Tear (Angelic Buster) The Sun symbolizes happiness, joy, energy, optimism, and accomplishment. Occasionally, it is also associated with one’s initial happiness. Warm, radiant, and full of energy. It represents the dawn that comes after the darkest night.

Tear’s dialogues are one of the most full of energetic ones. Despite her being different from the other Nova, she remains cheerful always. As an entertainer, Angelic Buster brings joy to others amidst times of crisis, as seen from her performance for the alliance after the Black Heaven mission.

XX: The Judgement – Shinsoo The Judgement Arcana is associated with realizing one’s calling, gaining a deep understanding of life, and a feeling of acceptance and absolution. The reflection of past actions and their consequences. Accepting or shedding past burdens in order to move on to new things.

​Shinsoo maintains the Maple World by supporting the Empresses with her bond. Whatever decisions Aria and Cygnus make, Shinsoo accepts them and acts accordingly.

XXI: The World – Alicia The World Arcana is a representation of the world’s totality, the symbol of fulfillment, wholeness, and harmony. Taking in and assessing everything as a whole. The culmination of experiences gained through a long and sometimes difficult journey.

World Tree Alicia, Transcendent of Life is a perfect fit for the World arcana. At the end of Heroes of Maple, she scatters her soul, becoming part of the world in order to breathe the life back into it.

Hiyo! This is a thing for like the two people who follow me for maplestory. @martianunicorn (go check out his stuff it’s p. rad!) and I made an AU blog for MS and you guys should go look at it! I drew most of the designs and he drew the rest of them and wrote the story!
