for me, the great thing about the gangsey is that i can never pick a favorite because they all are equally great characters. there's gansey, the awesome one who has a weird obsession with dead, welsh kings... then there's ronan—gay icon, deeply religious, edgy, and the guy with the best supernatural ability ever. along with him comes adam, the (kind of) overlooked one who suffers from self-doubts, and unresolved trauma. and then you have noah, the dude who died long ago (and unsuccessfully lied about it), but still has the best attitude. and blue sargent—fashion icon, feminist, and mystic teen—basically collected them all.

their friendgroup is so unique (and chaotic), and i love it.

To his credit, the Aglionby boy didn't speak right away. Instead, he thought for a moment and then he said, without heat, "You said you were working for a living. richard "dick" campbell gansey the third, the boy you are. i need to shake him. i need to put him into a small enclosure for three to four business weeks. i need to force him through a Feminism 101 (How To Stop Being A Polite Misogynist) class.

all of the characters in trc are deliciously horrible but there's something about gansey specifically that fascinates and enthralls. like he is genuinely kind and his family are genuinely kind and also they're in the top 500 richest families in the world and it shows. they're all nice. they're all horrible. you could have dinner with them and they would ask about your interests and genuinely care and then you would go home and feel like the scum of the earth and they wouldn't even realise

(i think it's so interesting how gansey, even when he's in the wrong and HE KNOWS HE'S IN THE WRONG, apologises Like This. like, yeah, he fucked up, but blue's being a bit impolite about it, isn't she? it's not that he isn't open to criticism, but it's not exactly Proper Feedback Protocol to be so blunt about it, now is it.)

I really do love how much gansey enjoys dressing how he does.

when he tells blue that he likes her name just fine (but also likes the name jane), he reassures her by saying that "some of [his] favorite shirts are blue."

and when blue teases him for his brightly colored polo shirt at the abandoned church, he tells her, "aquamarine is a wonderful color, and i won’t be made to feel bad for wearing it,"

when he can't wear his favorite yellow sweater, his day is made additionally miserable in a brown sweater "that looked exactly on the outside like gansey felt on the inside"

he's so dramatic about his choice of clothing and I love him for it

on the occasion that we do read him to be wearing a loose t-shirt and jeans, he describes himself as slovenly, dressed distastefully to bury a body.

but he doesn't judge anybody else for wearing their regular clothes. in fact, he is constantly described to be especially attracted to blue when she's wearing some truly chaotic outfits.

he doesn't dress in his preppy-bright way to feel better than anybody, he likes the way he looks in the clothes that he chooses, regardless of how he is teased by his friends (in a way that i would even liken to blue, except his choices are more generally socially acceptable). and even though blue avoids looking at his shoes bc it makes her feel better about him as a person in trb, I like to think that she loves him in an all-encompassing way that includes his choice of clothing by the end of the series.
