⚝ — The Complications of Source Calls ...

touchy subject, right? source calls, everybody! dangerous, fun, helpful, dehumanizing ... they've been called basically everything in the book. but what really is the issue with source calling?

for those of you who are blissfully unaware, a source call is when an irl, fictionkin, introject, etc., posts a 'call' for their source mates to find and interact with. the purpose of these is usually to find friends or find familiar people to talk to! for the purpose of today's topic, i'm going to primarily focus on introject source calls.

there's a good side and a bad side to everything, and of course that's also the case with source calls. on the bright side of them, an introject can find some familiar faces to talk with! on the not-so-bright side, source calls can lead to introjects being dehumanized and viewed as a character instead of a person.

so where's the common ground? how do you do a source call while remaining respectful to whichever system you're talking to? in my opinion, this can be done, you just have to tread extremely carefully.

first of all, you need to remember that the person you're talking to is a person, not your memory of their source character. talking to source mates is fun and all, but remember: they have different memories, just like you. they're their own person with their own beliefs and ideals, and don't have to align with your exact recollection of their source. because that's all you're remembering. you're remembering their source, not them.

second of all, you need to be respectful towards the system you're speaking to as a whole. don't be rude to other alters if they show up, be willing to get to know the entire system, not just the person you've source called from. don't get mad when they leave front, and remember there's another person on the other side of the screen.

third of all, just don't be an asshole! don't treat the other person like a character, don't try to force your memories and perception of their source onto them, and overall remain kind throughout the entire thing.

if you do all this, i genuinely think you're all good to do as you please! as much as source calls can be dodgy, as long as you follow a basic criteria of respect and kindness when doing them, i think you're fine. it's not a crime for introjects from the same source to interact, and it shouldn't be treated that way! they should just be very respectful of each other and remember that the other is their own person. :}

theres a hypothetical instance of asylumstuck being written well and not incredibly offensive and yet every single time i see some old asylumstuck posts i am blown away by how they manage to get literally every depiction of mental illness incorrect. its like they googled the symptoms and then deliberately wrote against the reality of those illnesses. its like they googled awful stereotypes about mentally ill (mostly psychotic or suicidal people) and made it their personal project to include as many as they could

I hope Gamzee himself doesn't get his hands on that disc. Unlike Terezi, he might actually know what it is.

Predictably, you scratch the surface of the disc. What were you expecting? It's almost like you don't even know what a CD is. With the disc damaged, who knows what sort of effects it will have on the data.

This whole thing is a metaphor for the comic's imminent reboot.

Homestuck is about to be 'Scratched' - an event which will result in an altered version of the comic, with different data. Once the disc has been scratched, we'll be ready to 'run' it again - but this time, that young man's bedroom might look a little different.

It should be perfectly safe from any similar kinds of damage while secured in your SCRATCH AND SNIFF modus.

That's a very familiar uniform. I'm increasingly sure that Terezi is aware of her ancestor - and I'm starting to wonder just how many trolls are dancing to the tune of the past.

There is no doubt about it anymore. She is clearly baiting you into confrontation.

So that's Gamzee's game. He knows that Vriska and Terezi are too dangerous to fight directly, so he's taking advantage of the Scourge Sister rivalry to pit them against each other.

That's... extremely crafty, actually. For a guy who's been stoned his entire life, Gamzee's got a serious talent for scheming.
