One of the things that I think makes Narvin such a compelling character is that he’s one of the only actual proper time lords we get to see in the doctor who universe. Like we see plenty of other time lords but they’re either renegades (or close enough), have some sort of importance to time lord society/history as a whole, or just aren’t in enough stories to truly get to know
But narvin is really just some guy, yeah he has a high ranking job, but he’s a time lord who (at least at the beginning of gallifrey) holds the same views about the universe as most other time lords. But unlike many other time lords like this he sticks around long enough for us to get to see him grow and change, we get to see his views/ideas/morality get challenged and the consequences of that
I just really like getting to see a time lord who has little to no knowledge about human life and culture that we also get to know on a deeper level than just a side character or someone who’s only in an episode or two
#Narvin is probably my favorite character in the entire doctor who universe#he has so much growth as a character#and also starts out in a cast of previously established characters and still manages to capture so many peoples attention#I just really really like that gallifrey gave us a normal time lord with normal time lord ideals in among a main cast of two sort of#renegades and a human#doctor who#gallifrey#gallifrey audios#Narvin#also it’s one in the morning so this might not actually make that much sense#I just wanted to ramble about Narvin

listen gallifrey is a nightmare death planet I have to believe that time lords can be easily converted back into terrifying apex predators if they spend a long enough time outside. like how domesticated pigs will revert to wild ones within a few generations
#they must’ve been crazy efficient predators before setting up their domes and nutrient cubes and such#they can sit still to grab passing animals like a net casting spider without even breathing for almost an hour#two hearts and massive air reserves they can chase for as long as they like#tapetum lucidum they can hunt at night#yknow in a quiet heart when some of the guardsmen join leela to hunt with the shobogans? I’m v attached to that#I think it’s still done recreationally even if it’s seen as kind of a weird hobby#and I think a lot of gallifreyan high cuisine revolves around fresh raw meat and organ meat. there aren’t a lot of cheap cuts on gallifrey

LOOMING AND THE IMPACT ON THE LEVEL OF INBREEDING ON THE TIME LORD POPULATION, AN ESSAY
And how inbreeding is a big issue amongst the Time Lord population, due to their elitism and strict caste system.
#I want to make this post at some point#making this one to remind myself to#I'm doing genetics in biology at the moment!#not sure if looming would be#a) beneficial due to increasing gene pool/genetic drift through genetic modification#b) not beneficial due to an increase in parent individuals who are to some extent inbred#c) not beneficial because it involves basically artificial selection#which although gets you the preferred traits#also comes with more negative results like think pure bred dogs with all them issues#inbreeding would totally be a huge issue#like they've got a limited population (I don't think there can be *that* many time lords compared to like earth population#they're the 1% so likely gonna be one of the smallest castes#and then you have a lack of gene flow between castes because they don't interbreed#doctor who#gallifrey#dw#dw meta#time lords

what i’m liking about gallifrey so far is that it’s structured like a sitcom without being one. these are sitcom characters in a serious genre
#ykwim? they’re all very defined and it’s the same small cast with the occasional extras who don’t stay#idk. but you know. u get what i’m saying#p#gallifrey lb

Wait, is it eventually established how old is narvin/ is he around the same age range as Romana? Not cuz it would mean anything in particular if they arent, just. Trying ot get the vibe
#this is for 'master and the doctor gossiping about gallifrey cast' reasons.#and by master and the doctor i mean my ocs dont worry about it

"Jeremy fobwatched Narvin" would at least mean he wasn't actually related to his father so he might take that as a win...
This is a fair and valid point. Although starting with the time war and working backwards, there’s probably quite a lot he wouldn’t consider a win.
#we apologise to our followers who doesn’t have an extensive knowledge of the Doctor Who Extended universe#We will always reccomend picking up the Gallifrey audios#and not just because we write for them sometimes#and almost all our main cast had been in them#Jeremy Larkin

Can anyone recommend an Irving Braxiatel crash-course of things to read/listen to? Thinking of making this the year of him, since I'm already making my way through Benny's audios, and have procured a method of reading pdfs at work during lunch. Why not just fully go batshit??
#i've got theatre of war (his introduction???) in book form as well as his appearance in benny's wedding but i mean. that man spans#multiverses and i'd prefer not to immediately ruin every appearance of his by looking on the wiki.#random#braxiatel#obviously i've listened to him in gallifrey and the first lot of benny's stories (I'm up to epoch and accidentally glanced the cast list fo#a bloody surprise)

I've started listening to the first boxset of Gallifrey: War Room and...I'm struggling to even make it through the second story. While I do like getting to see Leela shine more (like she did in the previous Gallifrey audios), except taking center stage this time, I do miss the dynamic of the old cast (I’m talking the Gallifrey OT4: Romana, Leela, Brax & Narvin.) It just feels weird without them. I like the dynamic between Leela and the General, and I would love to see more interaction between Leela and Rassilon, but I really don't care for the other characters. I'm honestly left wondering what was Big Finish's thoughts with making War Room? If Leela doesn’t free Romana or do something to bring back her friends or save Gallifrey herself, I’m gonna consider this a wasted boxset.
#jamie listens to Gallifrey: War Room 1.2#gallifrey audios spoilers#this is actually making me like Time War better ^^''''#I just miss the old cast...the Gallifrey OT4 it feels weird without them#it especially feels weird without Romana#why not bring in Juliet Landau's Romana now?#I'm hoping this isn't just a cashgrab

Still thinking about that post talking about more alien-looking time lords like gehehehehehehehhee I’m on it babes <333
#already got an idea to give them eyes similar to that of eagles#considering Gallifrey has not one but TWO suns#a bright orange landscape with a forest of silver leaves that cast blinding light every morning?#if a human stood foot on gallifrey at like 9 in the morning they’d be BLIND#they would need to have eyes that adjust to such harsh light#imma Ponder The Orb™️ and maybe look up some stuff on gallifrey’s natural environment to see how timelords would’ve properly evolved

I made this post the same day Big Finish postponed the release by two months—but now this post is over two months old…..
I see that we have a subtitle (War Room 2: Manoeuvres), but that is extremely little. alas it seems like Big Finish is releasing story info/cover art/trailers now for August stories, which means it’ll probably be another month (I swear they used to release story info much further out from the release…..)
@ big finish can we please have a bit of info on War Room 2. a cast list. a writers list. episode descriptions. a cover. any of the above would do.
#me with my face pressed up against the big finish twitter: you don’t have to wait and give us everything at once!#i’ll take writers and episode titles now and episode descriptions later!#i’ll take partial and then full cast list!#i’ll take cover and then trailer!#(that staggered release of information is what’s happened for the last couple gallifrey box sets#but it does seem like they’ve shifted to announcing things closer to the release date?)#gallifrey audios#ramblings

So I just watched The Enemy of the World, which is the story where the Doctor is asked to impersonate an aspiring dictator who happens to look exactly like him
And it absolutely slapped and there's a million super fascinating things about it I've been rambling to my friends but the one that really really got me is the fact that it's very emphatically set in the year 2018, aka now a couple years ago
I am obsessed with this fact, I need some Doctor Who writer to pick up on it and bring it up. I need something like, the Doctor pulls out a bunch of pictures of their past selves to explain regeneration to the newest companion but then has to leave the room and leaves the pictures there and it's just like
Companion's supporting-cast family member or something: (walks in and sees the pictures) "Hey, who're these people?" Companion: "Oh, they're-" Supporting-cast family member: "Oh wait no I know this guy, he was on the news! Remember, that politician who turns out was keeping a bunch of slaves in an underground bunker? Killed a bunch of people?" Companion: "What?"
And then the companion tries to subtly bring it up around the Doctor to try and figure out if that was him without arousing suspicion but it just doesn't inspire confidence
Companion: "Hey, Doctor, you ever been involved in politics?" The Doctor: (having been the president of both Gallifrey and Earth) "Yeah, why"

every day I think about the fact that paul mcgann should have been the incarnation of the doctor that destroyed gallifrey. casting a new, older, “more grizzled” actor to play an interim incarnation that did it lessens the impact of it, in my opinion. my uncle once said that he didn’t think it should have been mcgann because of how happy-go-lucky he was in his first appearance. but I think that’s exactly why it should have been him, actually
what better way to show the horror of the time war then to show how that same doctor, who was the most bright eyed upon his regeneration, came to a point of deciding to destroy his home planet because of it?
