Local cooking gas suppliers, National Petroleum Ltd(@NPGas) have finally heeded the call by many of their users of the approx 50lb steel cylinder and have unveiled their new lightweight composite gas cylinders that are in 22lb and 11lb sizes at the NP booth at the Trinidad and Tobago Energy Conference 2022 held earlier this week at the Hyatt. 

The new cylinders are made from composite materials and then enclosed in a plastic casing making them 50 per cent lighter than steel.While the original steel tanks would continue to be sold, these new cylinders would become available very soon as "a product extension to customers who are willing to purchase a more premium and aesthetically pleasing product offering,” according to officials of the company.

Besides being lighter, the new tanks are non-corrosive and their contents can be seen from the outside, so there is no surprise when you're in the middle of cooking lunch. And don't worry about any other changes as the new tanks are compatible with the existing regulators that meet the EN12864 standard.NP also stated there will introduce a larger size, which isn't to compete with the 100lb tanks but it is an additional option. While the 22lb and 11lb cylinders are not in circulation as yet, you can WhatsApp NP at 686-6762 to find out how to get yours! I already did. 

*UPDATE*I did get a reply from National Petroleum WhatsApp number and I'm very grateful for their allowing me to post it. So you can purchase your own tank that will be refillable. First off, the cost of the 22lb composite cylinder (empty) is $550.00 VI and the 11lb composite cylinder (empty) is $385.00 VI. Remember this is YOUR personal cylinder.The cost of refilling of the 22lb refill is $51.22, and the 11lb composite cylinder is $17.17. The cylinders are available from NP Head Office in Sea Lots.  Our opening hours are Monday to Friday 7am to 2pm and you can currently get them filled at the NATPET facility however they are finalising arrangements to have them done through their various distributors in the very near future. I see this becoming popular in the future, what are your thoughts.
