the thought of having anything like a family or social circle is terrifying to him. loneliness is a much more familiar and thus comfortable experience.

this is a sad one. trying to interact with other people in a way that isn't predicated on violence (whether for or to them) feels so alien and daunting to fett that he feels like he's incapable of it. (it's also one of the many moments in which fett is an unreliable narrator of his own character development bc what do you think you've been doing for the past three books, idiot)

and finally, one of the (several) moments in the series that implies he usually relies on beviin and/or medrit to handle daunting social interactions for him :`) he's very lucky to have them!

anakin is a surly cat who was accidentally domesticated, escaped into the wild, and honestly obi-wan knows it’s bad for the environment (the galaxy around them), but it’s literally exhausting to keep him inside all the time. obi-wan is sore and frankly tuckered out (the only activity he has found that anakin likes more than the occasional murder is sex)

it’s enough that he knows anakin always comes back after a few hours outside (yeah usually dripping in remnants of bloody crime lol) - and all obi-wan has to do to ensure anakin stays very close is mention that he thinks he’s going to invite one of the neighbors over sometime soon.

leave it vague. leave anakin guessing. he can’t kill ALL their neighbors. obi-wan would be cross

god i wish they hadn't retconned maul's death. i get wanting to explore more of his character because he was, objectively, one of the coolest star wars characters to ever hit the big screen and didn't get much screentime prior to his death, but also his role was fulfilled perfectly within those constraints so i wasn't too upset by it.

but by retconning it and making it so he never died it's like. okay. what now? the whole point (well, to me, ymmv of course) of the theed generator fight was that it was the first ever fight between the jedi and the sith in thousands of years, and that in the end even though the jedi (obi-wan) won the fight, a jedi (qui-gon) and a sith (maul) still died. a master and an apprentice dying together to herald the start of a new age/the return of the sith. perfectly paralleling the way in rotj a master (palps) and an apprentice (anakin/vader) died together to herald the return of the jedi. in both instances, a father figure (qui-gon/vader) dies in the arms of their son (obi-wan/luke) as a sith (palps/maul) is cast down into the abyss to their deaths. (palps being alive in the ST and retconning his death in rotj is also annoying for this reason)

i mean i like maul. don't get me wrong. he's an incredibly compelling character and i enjoy seeing more of him... but there's always the thought hovering in my mind like "he should be dead though. he should 100% be dead. this wouldn't be happening if he was dead, but i honestly would rather it not if it meant that maul was dead."

like the tpm fight just doesn't hit the same knowing that canonically he's just. going to become a robot octopus at some point. (shoutout to palps becoming sith glados in the ST) it cheapens the moment for me. it was supposed to be a moment of triumph marred by the deep and soul-crushing loss of a loved one and it's just... not, anymore. or at least not to the same extent. AUGH i'm just. frustrated. wish star wars as a whole wasn't constantly reframing/retconning what's been established. just puts a bad taste in my mouth.

the amount of mental trauma boboiboy has is astounding.

kid has never catch a break since the day he got his power watch, especially with the weight of the whole galaxy on his shoulders, and the amount of times the descendants of the first elemental users have seen boboiboy as their ancestors AND retakka… yikes…

i’m glad he’s deciding to stay on earth for the time being, lord knows he needs it 😭😭😭

he has yet to get the all third stage elementals, and also i would like to see the origins of the others’ powers too. i think it’d be interesting to see where yaya’s, ying’s, gopal’s and fang’s powers came from.

so we’ll see how that pans out (hopefully my boy’s gonna go clock in with the tapops psychiatrist before he does any shenanigans)

rereading the spring hunt chapter and having feels about Ouyang's meeting with the Great Khan

Firstly, I find it quite poignant that it's the second time we see Ouyang have a panic attack and both times this happens when he has a face-to-face meeting with people directly responsible for murdering his family: Chaghan and the Great Khan. Like huh, the embodied trauma of it all.

Secondly, there's the fact that the Khan can see Ouyang's ghosts and asks if he's an Ouyang from Henan. He knows. And he still chooses to praise Ouyang's skills, rewards him and tells him to serve his masters "loyally and well"???? Like, I know that one reason is that he probably kind of had to say this because of manners/protocol etc. But I also think it underlines how, for the Great Khan, Ouyang is someone who can make amends for his father's betrayal in a positive way. He can be precisely what his father was not: a loyal, talented general who will bring success for the empire, and it is his LOYALTY that would allow him to restore the honour for himself & his family. And of course we know that this is could never happen because Ouyang really lacks some crucial info here and also he was never going to give up on getting his revenge especially on Chaghan (and this is not even getting into the whole ''former slave asked to uphold the regime who enslaved him'' dynamic). But just. losing my mind over the fact that Ouyang had the option to regain his honour by staying loyal to Esen - by doing precisely the one thing he wanted, the only thing that made him happy. And he still did the exact opposite.

And thirdly, that line of foreshadowing....... yeah.

not asking for a sequel but I do have a mighty need for an epilogue of force ghost obikin witnessing Luke at the celebration and having a moment together of ahhh Our son

I think that would mostly just go like. force ghost anakin tells force ghost obiwan something along the lines of “thank you for raising him. you did so good.” and force ghost obi-wan would look at the celebration going on and hesitate and force ghost anakin would prepare himself for his old master to make some sort of quip about how he aged him prematurely or about how raising anakin was a walk in the park compared to Luke or vice versa but then force ghost obi-wan says something very honest along the lines of “I didn’t think I could most days. It was so difficult to keep myself standing at the beginning. but he was easy for me to love. like his father.”

and then of course for the sickly sweet cyclical very ending, force ghost anakin would be like “I wouldn’t mind hearing all your stories about raising him. would you want to talk about it?” and force ghost obi-wan would be like “I think I might”
