Okay so if you haven’t seen, but I’m like a big fan of how so many Danmei characters have like animals that can like represent them (I just imagine them all in like some kind animal crossing world and it just makes me happy!)

So I wanted to put out a list of the ones that I’m pretty confident on, but I’d also love to hear any other opinions! I am going to put the list below the cut! I also wanted to pose two questions.

Question one: Okay so I have begun Clear and Muddy loss of water (what can I say, I’m a hopeless sapphic, it was basically a requirement at this point) and I’m not far enough in yet to come up with any animal match ups for them! I would love to hear from anyone about your opinions, what animals would you associate with Qiyan and Jingnu? I’d love to hear in the comments or feel free to message me in either tumblr messaging or from my ask box! I need to know others opinions!

Question 2: Is there other Danmei / Baihe novels that you all recommend or any poll ideas you want to see? I am all ears! Like above, reach out in the comments, messaging, or askbox! I look forward to hearing from people!

Onto my list! I am currently sticking to the official couples, though I would love peoples opinions on some of the other ships and characters!

So for Wei Wuxian and Lan Zhan, I feel like there are 2 common ones. One of course is the ever popular and official on the special edition book cover bunnies, which I love! I have also seen them as a fox and dragon though, which I am not opposed to!

Hua Cheng is a fox and I have seen that Xie Lian Is a ferret/weasel, though my friend brought up that they say someone say he was really a stoat, which I personally love and agree, cute and stuff, but can also take down a bunny twice it’s size with ease, I feel like it is Xie Lian Vibes!

Shen Qingqui is a cat, and Luo Binghe is a fluffy dog, nuff said!

Mobei Jun was pretty unanimously a snow leopard, and Shang Qinghua is very much a Hamster!

Mo ran is a husky and chu wanning is a white cat ( the title totally didn’t give anything away…)

Shen Qiao is a deer is what I’ve seen most often and Yan Wushi is a wolf (GAHHH I LOVE THOSE TWO!!)

When I solidify more of the animal match ups of different characters (including the non canon ships) I will reblog the post and add them on!

thank you! 🌟 oh artbooks?! that's actually a really interesting question hmm... I don't physically own any (expensive ⚰️) but I've seen them online for some games and artists I like! idk how interesting they'll be if you're not into those specific games but nonetheless i think the art is a treat to see even without context! i'll answer under the cut, this ended up being rly long

Dai Gyakuten Saiban 1 & 2 / The Great Ace Attorney Chronicles (Kazuya Nuri)

- Nuri's soft lilac shading is so beautiful + unique to his art! I also appreciate that this artbook is mainly full of sketches and renders you don't see in game. They're so expressive, I wish other artbooks had more doodles of the characters goofing off, you can tell Nuri loves these characters a lot hehe (how often can you say the lead artist drew april fool's furry designs + canon animal plushie designs for the mcs)

the doodles that really stuck out to me are spoilers so i won't share those, but they really feel like snippets from a slice of life anime which humanizes the characters so well

Fire Emblem Echoes (Hidari)

- Hidari's designs are so classy and elegant, the way his fabrics all have a palpable weight and texture to them, and his coloring is so warm... there's a good reason why his designs keep getting circulated with praise every once in a while hehe. I really hope they bring him back for another game!

a personal favourite... she's very pretty!!

(on a side note i rly love Nuri and Hidari's female character designs, it's refreshing to see! not to say that modest designs are inherently better than more fanservicey ones, but i find that the female character designs are even more memorable because of it! it's mainly a personal preference)

Fire Emblem Awakening + Fates (Kozaki Yusuke)

- god of drawing armor and anatomy in perspective... his poses are so dynamic because of his mastery of foreshortening. I love seeing his work in Heroes, it only continues to get better over the years! plus he designed Lucina and Inigo so :D

as much as i love his artbooks my favorite art from him comes from fe heroes! his units have the most unique posing in the game, it always makes me excited to see more of his art (i especially love how conscious/deliberate he is with body types in his designs)

Persona 5/ 4/ P4 Arena Ultimax (Shigenori Soejima)

- Soejima's art influenced my artstyle a lot back in 2017(?) and 2021! (I mainly enjoy his b&w rougher style since it's so bold and also a fun style to draw in, although his painted stuff is fantastic as well) I enjoy seeing the Persona designs since they're so different to what I usually draw and it's really hard to capture the grace he draws them with (especially P4's)

persona 4/arena ultimax have my favorite persona designs out of the modern games!

Death Stranding (Yoji Shinkawa)

- It's a shame you don't see Yoji Shinkawa's artwork in the game much (to my knowledge) because it's stunning how vivid, gritty, and yet effortlessly elegant it is. The monster designs are so haunting gahhh it's so cool! The mastery he has with ink and brush is insane he can be so loose with the lines and yet it conveys everything you need to know

the full body ink sketch of die hardman... it's so loose and yet it's very controlled aghh it's so impressive (i saw hunter schafer got her portrait drawn by him and like. imagine yoji shinkawa drawing you. ohmygod)

Okami (Takeyasu Sawaki, Kenichiro Yoshimura, Mari Shimazaki)

- when I was in middle school I didn't even know games could look like this?! The obvious traditional Japanese art influence makes the designs really unique even compared to modern games. The calligraphic brush strokes are so striking and I especially love the subtle ink bleed outside of the outlines, it honors traditional media so well. honestly this game's style in general is one of a kind

Journey (Matthew Nava)

- (although it is an artbook I've only been able to see a few of the pages! Nava does have an archived GDC talk where he presents the book that I still have to take a look at) I found the color script for the complete story interesting since it shows both the color corresponding with the literal height of the mountain for the hero's journey that the game was so inspired by. Plus the alternate designs for the iconic main character are so cute!

masterfully crafted experience... i think this is the first time i've seen a color script for a game? (although i guess i'm not that familiar with games)

Transistor (Jen Zee)

- my favorite Supergiant game! It's a shame there's so little of the concept art out there (I'm pretty sure I saw more years ago but I couldn't find them more recently... link rot grr...) Jen Zee's painterly style is gorgeous and the colors are so warm, so uncharacteristic of the cyberpunk genre we're typically familiar with! her art was also a big inspiration for me when I was younger

Apex Legends

- apex does have an artbook but l mainly enjoy looking at the character designs and the transition screens for compositions (especially the season 4 Revenant's trailer ones, one day I hope my background/environment art can reach a level anywhere close to that). The character designs and overall setting are different from my usual style so it's cool to see the attention to detail in fabric texture, prop design, worldbuilding, etc. and try to apply it to my designs

this transition has such a strong sense of narrative in the illustration, it impressed me so much i drew something inspired by it (i'm not sure who the original artist is, i thiiink it's liam mcdonald...?? i really hope i'm not misattributing it;; out of the concept artists his illustrations look the most similar...?)

I'm interested in Outer Wilds' artbook and Disco Elysium's but I don't think I can look at those without spoilers! both phenomenal games that i really need to finish (i know outer wilds' main story but not echoes of the eye)

hit the limit on pictures 😔 and i've been sitting on this ask for a while... I feel like there are more artbooks that aren't coming to mind ahh I should really keep track of them better! thank you for the ask, it was nice to revisit these again 💞

dude your art is so good, do you have any advice for how to improve as an artist who hasn't been very consistent ? I'd love to know what resources you use for studies,how you lay out sketch pages,what you choose to study,any websites you use for art,etc? No pressure ofc! gahhh aehehahe i really appreciate this ^_^ really kind words :D, anyway my one advice is get incredibnly obssesed with a ccharacter and draw them over and over for 5 years. jk.. i hsve other advice 2 :grin: i think, personally what helped me grow was really having other artists evaluate my art and really taking constructive criticism to heart and working on whatever issues i have consistently in my art whether its anatomy or coloring or rendering. i think it is great 2 have other artist friends who can help you and eachother imrpove! i think also pushing yourself to draw things your uncomfortable with like strange angles and different features and really just working on understanding the human form helped me draw more consistently, for me im now at the stage where i am experimenting with my style but before that i was focused on really getting the basics, i think now that i understand like, figure drawing and such i have been able to focus on getting a consistent art style if thats what you mean? but again ive done alot of figure drawings and loose poses. i remember watching this video a couple years ago that helped me get on the track 2 studying figures specifically !! i do not know if it will be of service to you but here it is https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xGhYfLQWbp0 , also ive done some studies of figure drawings from other really good artists i was looking at this one book ill try to see if i can remember later. but yea i study from life and other artists, when it comes to painting i find alot of inspiration from stuff i find on pinterest and also other artists on tumblr lol gahh i have been writing alot my bad, but yea i usually google references for poses i dont really use any like, artist reference websites even though i should lol. but yea overall i have done like soo many gesture drawings, and when i frst got into tf2 i studied the comics artstyle alot which i think helped alot with my style and understanding all the muscles in the face you know, also for sketch pages i literally just start a drawing of something and draw around the empty space around it lol, i do not really plan them ever, in like physical sketchbooks i try to fill in the space between all my other sketches so all my drawings kind of meld into eachother cause i think it looks neat, anyway sorry 4 the essay and i hope any of this helps!! post nap rambles

i dont know why i fight naps so much. let me tell ya, ive been nappin recently, underrated! had a nice post work nap and your boy feels like a million bucks. i havent been sleeping well my schedule is a little off which means i am a little off. sleep is so important to me functioning as a human and i fight it so much, why!? gahhh. i literally just made a note to tell my future partner to just tell me/force me to go to bed haha. nsfw portion so feel free to skip to the next paragraph. i woke up full fucking mast. it was the pressure of laying on my stomach. i had my arms close to my upper body but my hips were square to the mattress. it kind of felt like lying on top of someone you know? >.> i could feel the weight of my body pressing into my full mast. i just wanted to push into the mattress or someone umphf. i usually sleep on my stomach but in a runners pose. anyways it was both a good feeling and a im so lonely feeling haha.

post nap munchies aka dinner. always, always, always keep some shredded meat of some kind in the fridge or like a rotisserie chicken. i can whip up a little bit of anything as long as i have some protein to work with. i have a high protein target cause your boy is trying to drop some lbs. i made a nice kimchi chicken salad with a little bit of everything i had in the fridge. i love korean food and flavors so much. i miss the area i grew up in which had a growing korean influence in my 20s. hockey time. this has been a text post.

Old Art: Inktober 2022, part 1

I have participated in Inktober since 2019, on Twitter up until now. To breathe some life into my blog here, I'll post my work from past years over the next few days, along with my thoughts and explanations where relevant, using the more long-form format of tumblr to its advantage. Please mind this small content warning before you continue reading: Some of what I drew for this quite odd and creepy, and in at least one case (day 14), arguably gory. Keep this in mind as you read and view the art.

Day 1: Gargoyle This one was fun. I did a poor job of making it actually look like it was perched on the wall and the wall itself was a pain, ultimately resulting in something kind of halfassed and iffy looking, but still, I had fun with it, and I think the gaping red maw looks pretty decent, all things considered. I used a grey ink--if I recall, it was Noodler's Lexington Gray--for this one, though only sparingly.

Day 2: Scurry Some of the anatomy is screwy here, in particular the catgirl's hands are all kinds of gnarly in ways I didn't intend. Ink is unforgiving. These aren't really meant to be any characters in particular, but I was probably influenced a little by Nazrin from Touhou Project and undeniably heavily inspired by Maekawa Miku from The Idolm@ster Cinderella Girls. You might immediately notice two things about this image: firstly that it is clearly more true to the color of the paper and secondly that the left edge curves away, gets blurry, and has a bit of a shadow. Day 1's drawing was simply captured by my phone camera, but I used my scanner for this one. That took time to set up (I have a bad habit of putting things on top of the machine and I have to reposition the whole thing because the USB-B cable I have is too short), so I didn't always use it. There's another scanner now, though, which I can use much more easily.

Day 3: Bat GAHHH why did I go right back to the phone camera? Oh well. The anatomy here is really poor especially around the legs, but I tried to be a little more dynamic with the pose than I usually would be. Evidently, I didn't properly plan this from the beginning, since the torso is on a somewhat different perspective plane than it should be. Oh well, not everything works out as you'd want it.

Day 4: Scallop I love drawing spooky little creatures. Here, we see a sea scallop, but with spindly arms and legs. This is only slightly more monstrous than what live sea scallops actually look like. Did you know they have like 200 eyes, all lined up in a row along the edge of the "mouth"? Crazy. There's also a moray eel in entirely imaginary colors here. It seems about as freaked out by the scallop creature as is appropriate.

Day 5: Flame Dragon girl! I should really put this under the scanner someday. Overall I mostly like how this turned out, though I clearly had no clue what to do with the breasts. Probably should have grabbed some references.

Day 6: Bouquet This time, the gnarly fingers were absolutely intentional. Here we see an elder vampire or something, perhaps some other kind of aged fantasy man, enjoying several flowers. I think they were based upon a couple specific real flowers, but I can't quite recall exactly what they were.

Day 7: Trip This is one I'm really glad I went through the trouble to use the scanner for. There are certainly things that could have been improved, but overall, I'm still quite proud of this one. Two girls on a road trip in an Autobianchi Bianchina, stopped on the side of the road for... I dunno, looking at the scenery, I guess. I don't know if that car was ever sold in this color, but it's what color I'd want one in.

Day 8: Match Matching outfit elves. The anatomy and basic geometry of this one was completely unsalvageable by the time I realized what was going on. Alas, at least it was properly scanned.

Day 9: Nest Sometimes you go into a drawing with an image in your head that's too complex to hold for long and when you zoom in in your mind to look at the details, you lose it. Ultimately, though, when I look at it now, that worked out better than if I had faithfully rendered every piece of trash in the garbage heap that this giant, mechanical bird-thing has built. Seriously, this looks way better than I remember it looking. I also used the grey ink here again, I think to much better effect than with the gargoyle.

Day 10: Crabby Crabby child, crab hat, "Feelin' Crabulous!" shirts. Not much more to say other than wow that mom character looks weird. I think I did a pretty decent job of depicting a child in the middle of a tantrum over god-knows-what here.

Day 11: Eagle A man and his concerningly large eagle. If I recall, this was meant to depict a Haast's eagle, an extinct species from what is now New Zealand. Or at the very least it was mostly inspired by that. In other words, it's completely nonsensical for a man in a heavy coat, fur hat, and snow goggles to have one as his companion, but somehow it just felt right. I used a bunch of different colors of brown micron and even fountain pen ink for this, and I think the effect turned out well.

Day 12: Forget Creepy creatures what take your brain out and make you forget things. The head being comically outsized compared to the rest of the body was actually intentional here--I felt the strange proportions would further bring focus to the point of the action and also just make the whole scene feel even weirder.

Day 13: Kind More weirdo creatures. I thought it'd be fun to depict kindness between alien things rather than more easily relatable humans or animals. This color palette also happens to be enjoyable to me. This is another one featuring some fountain pen inks, but I can't recall what they were.

Day 14: Empty Yeah, this one is pretty gross and freaky. Sorry about that. But hey, that was the idea. Mission accomplished, right? If I remember correctly, this one included Diamine Oxblood ink, to get that fleshy cavern look.

Day 15: Armadillo Yep, it's Tarkus. As in, the album by Emerson, Lake & Palmer. I guess you could consider this a gijinka? The nameplate thing bearing the day number and prompt is based on the colors of the ground in the album art.

19. what is your favorite album art from one of your favorite artists?

I really love, with my entire heart, the album cover for Once in a Long Long While (drawn by artist Lily Buchanan). It’s so raw and emotional, has depth and roughness and a lushness that I love in pencil drawings, but done immaculately. It’s an intimate scene, yet closed off because of the pose, telling so much.

31. are you a lyric analyzer or do you just listen for fun. 🫣

Ohhhhhhh ohohohoh I am 1000000% a lyric analyzer. I mostly use lyrics as my captions on social media when posting art. I might really enjoy a song musically, but if it’s got vibing lyrics to go with it, I am all over that shit. I have so many playlists based on characters because I’ll hear a song and start foaming at the mouth when it has anything to do with one of my various blorbos 😂

he wouldn’t dare to ever make you upset, and in the off chance you two have arguments (because healthy relationship include disagreements at times), draken is the world’s greatest listener and is so extremely empathetic for you

mornings with him start off amazing; he’s up and dressed, chuckling at your sleepy state as you groggily tell him “good mornin’” - he presses a sweet kiss to your cheek, urging you to get out of bed and get ready for the day

he’s always making sure you are taking good care of yourself—that could be in the form of him making or buying you a breakfast, helping you study your notes, reminding you to take breaks, and ensuring you sleep full hours

nothing worse than seeing his baby tired—but he’ll let you nap in the break room at his shop if you’re feeling particularly exhausted that day (aka me everyday)

draken loves to indulge in your hobbies the way you show interest in his by being next to him in the shop all week

if you like to read, he’ll dedicate nights in bed to read with you or listen to you read as you lay atop of him - his chest heaves gently and he always catches himself falling asleep to the sound of your voice

maybe you like to draw? draken will help you find reference photos on pinterest and create folders dedicated to things he’d think you’d like

I am absolutely in love with how you've drawn all these limbs here. The hands! the wrinkles in Light's pyjamas! They're fact that everything that's touching is solidly interacting with each other! This really is one of the most gorgeous things I've seen from you yet, and that's a high bar,

I really wanted to get that particular panel as right as possible, so I actually downloaded a free posing app, arranged the general composition, and drew it about three different times until I liked the result enough to move on (I actually drew quite a few panels in this thing multiple times). Visit a sunflower farm, go horseback riding, go star gazing and go to a drive-in movie!

Of course you can! That sounds fun as hell! Okay, let’s see...

Horseback riding - A

A was a knight, okay? They know their way around a horse. And I feel like it’s the kind of activity where they could really kind of let loose and have fun, you know? It gets the blood pumping, the adrenaline flowing, you feel the wind in your hair, like it’s just a great time and very, very nostalgic for A for sure. And because of that, I kind of hope it would put them in a better state to reminisce about their past a bit. Like how cool would it be to go on this ride together and A opens up and tells you about some epic joust they won or the name of their first horse with a small smile and a twinkle in their eyes? Now there’s always the risk of the darker parts of their past souring the moment, but I don't know. I feel like the nostalgia paired with being with detective just might drown out those bad vibes for once. 

Drive-In Movie - N

I hope for N’s sake you’re not taking them in the hatchback because N’s poor legs are going to be numb by the end of the night after being stuffed in that tiny car for so long. But gahhh wouldn’t a drive-in movie with N be the cutest? You’d load up on concessions and settle in for the movie. I’m feeling some kind of old black and white film just so we have the real experience. And as the show goes on you and N slowly drift closer to one another until you’re all snuggled up  together. You're feeding N a piece of popcorn and they gently give your fingertips a little peck. The glow from the movie screen illuminates their face enough for you to see the longing in their eyes and I hope you kiss them after that because I totally would. It wouldn't go much farther than that though because you're still in public and N’s not into that. But you can always pick up where you left off once you get back.

Visit a Sunflower Farm - F

I do not care what F wants to do at this farm because the only thing I'm doing the whole time is filling my camera roll to capacity with shots of F surrounded by sunflowers. That’s it. And yeah it’s going to border on cliche instagram model nonsense but idgaf because F is a sunshine king/queen and gorgeous as hell and those sunflowers would be lucky to bask in F’s glow. And you know F would be totally into it too. They’re posing up a storm, they’re throwing in a sultry smile and a flirty wink, they’re loving it! And at some point they’re going to  wave you over going, “Babe!!! Get in here!” and start snapping a ton of cutesy couple selfies to frame and add to the mantle at the Warehouse later. 

Go Star Gazing - M 

I really love that M’s into stuff like this. Like their rooftop scene in book two is one of my favorite scenes in any route because it’s just so tranquil. Which is great because M is so not that usually. And I’d really love to see a date like this in the books where you pack up some minimal supplies, drive M out to some secluded part of Wayhaven, lay out a blanket, and just hang out. Some light M brand cuddling would also be amazing. And you guys just talk about whatever, maybe M opens up a little bit about their past or your relationship or their feelings. And M gets to silence all those annoying hypersenses and just enjoy their night with this silly little human who they can't get enough of.

I don’t base how I feel about someone as a person based on how they look. That has nothing to do with who they really are. My brain also just doesn’t work that way, like I don’t see or meet someone and think, “hm they’re really attractive, that could be a threat to me in some way and I don’t like them” or something. Like what??

Have you ever used someones handicapped parking pass to get a parking spot? I’m handicapped and have my own parking placard, thanks. Please don’t do that, though.

However, I feel that happens without me doing that if that makes sense. Like, I think people get things for me sometimes because they know I’m going through a hard time and feel bad for me.
