Spirit of Shackleton - GAdventures - January 12, 2024: Headed straight for the Drake Shake

Well we have left the port (after the port closed due to high winds but I guess they wanted to go anyway…) and now we are currently sailing straight into the Drake Shake.  

They told us to prepare for Rock and Roll Party tonight starting around midnight.  They are expecting about 4m waves which is moderate waves - they have sailed through 12m before which they said no one wants to do and is terrifying.  The boat has started to gradually sway more over the past 1 hour - I would say we are at about 1m waves so far.  So far no motion sickness yet - it’s kinda fun trying to walk when the boat is rocking.  We will see what happens as it kicks up and we start to lie down and settle into bed.  Currently we are rocking side to side which means as I am sleeping if I slide along the bed we could make impact with the wall - adding a pillow buffer for sure.  We have a wedge to put under our mattress to prevent us from rolling out of the bed.  We were all advised to take motion sickness medication prior to it getting bad because well there is a Rock and Roll Party expected.  As they get past the top of the Drake and start to head towards Falkland Islands they expect the waves to settle out and smooth sailing with only 2m waves which apparently we won’t feel (so late morning it should get better!)  I got some internet so we will see how good it is and I will update again in the morning.  So far having a blast and kinda want to stay here forever (but only if my pooches can come!!!  ;)  Took my gravol and off to bed!

Jiminy's really not sure why he keeps getting that. It's always seemed to him like his kind is just as common as... well, as talking mice. Maybe insects are just better at hiding?

"Insect, actually." Not a bug. The distinction matters. To him, anyways. "I'm a cricket! Jiminy Cricket," the greeting is accompanied with a somewhat curious tilt of his head. "You're a city fella, huh? Gosh, that can't be easy. Tried the city life for a while, myself, but I'm not so sure it was for me. You're a whole lot braver than I am!"

❝ ... ❞ ⸻He just murdered that butterfly. Now that Gavin knows insects can talk... that's kinda dark.

The flaming spec burns away into nothingness before it hits the ground. Its eulogy is a careless laugh, deep and foreboding.

To nature, Bowser is a boundless force of destruction. One this little rodent should learn to respect quickly... for his colossal foot slowly treks in their direction!

"Hey... y-you shouldn' be here, lil guy... if th'staff see you they'll definitely kill you!" Drake didn't want the orphanage staff to find Gavin in here. It would be like a death sentence! Yet, Drake would hide Gavin in his room if need be. Drake would kneel down to the smaller mouse and smiled warmly.

"S'okay... I won' tell no one tha' yer here. I think tha' you need friends... I need friends too." Drake sits down on the ground as he would motion to the bed. "M'name is Drake. Uh... and this is SIlvah." Silver the Dragon is his stuffed animal that sat comfortably on the bedsheets. "I dunno how you came in here, buh... s'nice t'meet you." Drake would glance out the door seeing no one. He closes the door to hide the pair. He didn't want the staff seeing Drake housing a mouse inside of his room. That would DEFINETLY earn him a night in the Dark Room.

Damned rodent. The Coeurl retracted his paw from the log and put his eye to the opening once more. His ears twitched; the prey had definitely spoke, but was nowhere to be found. The beast's whiskers crackled with electricity for moment, then soon stopped. No, he wouldn't waste his magic on something as simple as some mouse. Bare, primal senses would be more than enough to bring the tiny snack right to his eager maw.

☄|| ..... It seemed as if sight and sound would take priority here; there were too many scents mixed in from other creatures. Without a word, Torama slunk back into a different area of vegetation. Patience was key, and when it came for the forest, it had to calm down before the time to hunt came again.

“Wait a minute..” He spoke softly, This mouse was wearing something..looked like it was meant to be a scarf maybe..huh he must have definitely picked this mouse from another earth within a different dimension. It was going to be hell putting this little guy where he belonged. “I wonder if you can understand me..you do look.. somewhat civilized than the ordinary miss here..” But then again Puar was a talking cat whilst Oolong was a talking pig soo he wouldn’t be the least bit surprised if the mouse knew how to speak.

“If you can understand me, my name is Trunks..and I’m sorry you had to be dragged out here.” Trunks slowly moved his hand to allow the little rodent to see he was within an empty field. The grass was lush and green and far ahead in the horizon was the sight of a city shrouded in the clouds due to the distance. “It will take a while before I can find your exact timeline and Earth.”

I stalked the boat and saw it was coming in so I went down to the dock and watched it dock. 

Had some other people from the boat join me - we were all giddy with excitement.  Tomorrow at 4pm we board!  Not sure yet when we set off but here we go!  They have decided to do the trip in reverse so we get to go to Falklands and South Georgia first (bc of the bird flu outbreak - they want to get there in case it gets worse and gets closed) and then Antarctica will be at the end.  Which also means the drake will be the last thing we do....(well that sounds a bit ominous..).  But fret not - current weather reports are that the weather was bad between falklands and South Georgia too with 6-8m waves....

Wait and see.  Wait and see!
