Happy North American publication day to HIGH VAULTAGE, by @victoriocity! And many thanks to @terribleminds for the boost. (not least to my ego since I get a shout-out)
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
It's available through all good bookstores, AND you can get signed copies here!
OTHER NICE THINGS PEOPLE HAVE SAID:
'Hilarious' - Matt Young, co-creator of Hello from the Magic Tavern
'A joyous, delightful romp...filled to the brim with clever jokes - perfect for anyone looking for a Pratchett fix' - Caitlin Schneiderhan, screenwriter, Stranger Things
'More please' - SFX
‘High Vaultage is exactly what I've come to expect from the Sugdens - inventive, imaginative, and hilarious’ – Lauren Shippen, creator of The Bright Sessions
‘There are some very big concepts in this novel, ambitious settings, and amazing new discoveries. The satire is even more smart, the wit even more sharp’ – @skyfullofpods
'Absolutely overflowing with imagination and creativity . . . I also loved how witty and clever the writing and dialogue was and I found myself genuinely laughing' - @foreverlostinliterature
'High Vaultage is endlessly entertaining - a classic mystery adventure with 10,000 volts of mad science put right through it. It's not just the type of story I wish I could read every day, it's the type of story I wish I could write. Reading it would make me furious with envy if it didn't keep me so busy grinning from ear to ear' - Gabriel Urbina, creator of Wolf 359

That Vampire Show, our fiction podcast about fandom, turned 1 year old this week!
Hey Everyone! Our fiction podcast, That Vampire Show, turned one this week. Season 1 follows Kat Wright, a high school senior who is obsessed with the hit TV show, “Bloodlines.” After winning a fan fiction writing contest for the show, Kat is given the chance to visit set and meet the cast and crew. When the trip doesn’t go as planned — and she and the creator of the show, Warren Young, have a major fight — Kat’s life and the future of “Bloodlines” both spiral out of control.
Season 1 was 10 full length episodes, and 8 mini episodes that explored the world of "Bloodlines," the vampire hunter teen TV show within our podcast. Season 1 was written by me (Marissa Tandon @marissakumari, creator of Super Ordinary and The Sword & The Stoner), Gabriel Urbina (Wolf359), Alex Whisenhunt (His Royal Fakin' Highness, Life on Pause) and Cassidy Lu Jones. Season 2 is heading into production this month (we're currently casting for a few new roles) and a new writer, Berklie Novak-Stolz (who you may know here as @icaruspendragon) joined us for the writers room.
That Vampire Show is a love letter to fandom and creatives alike, and we had such a fun time making the show, and are so excited to bring season 2 to everyone!
If you're new to us and into the power point kind of thing, here's our quick starter guide to the show:

You can listen to the show on Apple Podcasts, Spotify, or wherever you get your podcasts (podlink here for all platform links!) Or, press play / follow on the embed of the first episode below. If you're into it, let us know with a reblog/ask/review, and subscribe for season 2!

holy shit, this fucking RULES!!!! HAPPY TEN YEARS TO ONE OF THE GREATS!!!!!!!
I first got into Wolf and met Gabriel right here on tumblr dot com. if memory serves, I made a post about the show being described as "about the advantages of floating, tiny and alone, in the middle of nowhere” and if that was a Sondheim reference. that, as I would learn through many posts that ultimately constituted the beginnings of our friendship, was a siren call for Gabriel Urbina. we bonded over Sondheim and making audio drama - that was the spring of 2016 and by the spring of 2017, we were going to see Pacific Overtures (which opens with the song "The Advantages of Floating in the Middle of the Sea") off-broadway:

throughout that time, I also got to know Zach and Sarah and the rest of the Wolf team--Sarah, Zach, Ceci, and I all went to the very first PatreCon together, after which Zach and I road tripped down the PCH; they've all been to my parents' house in NY and hung out with my sister (here with Gabriel and I at the show); I saw Emma last time she was in Seattle and got to benefit from her incredible wine expertise; all of them have given me immense creative inspiration, incredible advice, unwavering support, and deep friendship.
Gabriel and I still talk regularly about our work and the industry - we recently sent each other our current scripts we're developing and Gabriel, as always, gave me amazing feedback and oh my god you guys are going to lose it when you eventually hear what Gabriel has been working on. those early days of AD renaissance feel so far away now, that sometimes I lose sight of just how much these people - who could have just remained respected colleagues - have been fully woven into my life. I wouldn't have it any other way.
what's more, I genuinely have such crazed fangirl feelings for Wolf 359. it's not just a show I love because I love the people who made it, I'm a genuine freak about it. I remember sneaking away from my family on christmas to listen to the finale (which, like, what the FUCK guys, on christmas!?!) and crying because of how good it was. it is still the number 1 show I send to people when they need examples of how much you can do in audio.
so happy ten years, pals. I love you all a lot.

8.15.2024: Happy [ Ten Years of Wolf 359!! ] 💫📻
In celebration, @avesmonster and I have spent this year organizing an anthology of fanworks, and I'm so happy to finally be able to share it. It's such a labor of love from everyone involved, and it's incredible to see how passionate people still are about this show. We received over 50 (!!) submissions, both old and new, so please, please check it out, let everyone know how awesome their work is, & leave a comment on our guestbook, while you're there!!

I do think there's something special about the way that audio drama creators seem to love including cameos of voice actors from other popular audio dramas. Obviously, part of the reason why actors from one show might pop up in another is because the audio drama creator community is relatively small and interconnected, and also because those actors are very talented.
But there's also often such a sense that creators are having fun with these cameos. Like Greater Boston casting audio drama heavyweights Briggon Snow, Zach Valenti, and Felix Trench as famous film actors Matt Daemon, Ben Affleck, and Mark Wahlberg respectively. Or Faux and Stallion having Tom Crowley (who plays a Victorian detective in Victoriocity) pop up as Dr Watson. Or Unseen casting Beth Eyre and Felix Trench as characters who are twins. Or Arden getting Emma Sherr-Ziarko to play an actor impersonating a character played by her former Wolf 359 costar Michelle Agresti (with Michaela Swee also appearing as an actor impersonating the other main Arden lead).
In these cases, it's not just that there's a cameo, but that the cameo is given particular (often comedic) significance to those who are aware of the featured actor's other work. The vast majority of people wouldn't recognise any of these voices. But by doing these very intentional cameos, these creators show confidence that a fair chunk of their audience will know these actors and enjoy the link. There's an awareness that listeners of one audio drama are fairly likely to listen to (or at least be aware of) other fiction podcasts, even when the shows in question aren't of particularly similar genres. Recognising these cameos feels like being in on a secret. It feels like these shows are giving a little nod to listeners to say that we're part of the same club.

Also, folks have been asking if there's a way to support the making of Dracula: The Danse Macabre for a bit. Last week, our show's sole financier - aka series creator Gabriel Urbina - created a Patreon.
He's sharing various pieces of unproduced and lost work on there - starting with the full script of a radio play he wrote 5 years ago - as well as some fun retrospective stuff on Wolf 359 and his other past work. And he hopes to use the funds from this Patreon to make more independent audio work and online stories.
We know times are lean all around, but if you have a bit of money to spare and want to support an independent audio fiction producer as we finish up the first episodes of the series and set out to record the season 1 finale, check out the page and see if any of the rewards call out to you!
