Note
I'm rereading your All Souls trilogy (with great delight as always I might add) and I forget if you had a faceclaim for Gabriel? My main connotation with the name is John Hamm in Good Omens, which I feel like is not the vibe, haha, but it is throwing me off as I read and I could use a different mental image if you have a different person he looks like? Thank you :)
Aha. Yes, yes I do. It's David Gandy and you may find many, uh, important pictures in this ask and this ask, when several years ago my inbox was briefly a Gabriel de Clermont fan blog. You may also enjoy my Gabriel de Clermont tag. Ahem.

Séraphine Louis or Séraphine de Senlis (1864–1942), was born in Arsy (Oise), a town of barely 300 inhabitants, on September 3, 1864. Her father was a worker and her mother came from a peasant family.
When Seraphine was just one year old, her mother died. Her father, who had remarried, died six years later. The little girl was left living with her sister who did not love her.
At the age of seven she began to work as a shepherdess and in 1881, she was placed to work as a servant in the convent of the Sisters of Providence , in Clermont (Oise). She liked her life in the convent more than that of a shepherdess, and she tried to be a nun, which scared her mother superior given Seraphine's strange character.
In 1901, after spending 20 years in the convent, she began working in Senlis as a cleaning woman in different houses of the local bourgeoisie.
At 38 years old, she seemed much older and one night he believed he was receiving a sacred visit from the Archangel Gabriel , who told him that she should paint "the glory of God." She felt chosen by her providence to have this 'enlightenment'.
Almost illiterate, she had a primitive religious imagination created among nuns, she accumulated pain, religious hopes and dreams in her life.In the mornings she worked as a maid, earning a pittance that only allowed her to sleep in a seedy little room, but at night she created her paintings.
She used a very cheap paint to which she added new materials such as candle wax from the village church, or her own blood.
She painted plants and flowers on small wooden rectangles, which he signed by carving his signature with a knife without thinking that his works might have any commercial value.
In 1912, the gallery owner and art dealer Wilhelm Uhde , dedicated to exhibiting works by impressionists and cubists, began to devote a large part of his fortune to 'naïve' or naive painters, whom he preferred to call 'modern primitives' and whom he also called 'painters of the Sacred Heart'.
That same year he stayed, to rest, in one of the houses where Seraphine Louis cleaned in Senlis. There, he was shocked to find a still life with apples, but he was even more impressed to learn that the author was the cleaning woman.

73rd place S2
73rd place goes to...
Character 94, aka Matthew Clairmont (or Matthew Gabriel Philippe Bertrand Sebastien de Clermont) from All Souls series!
A very unique type of vampire others are scared of. But he has the discipline to keep such things secret for centuries. Then he meets his true love and things get....complicated. He whisks her away to meet him mom, and then she whisks him away and they run into his father! Since he is a vampire, he is attractive. He is also deep in a dark academia aesthetic as he uses his time to learn/study and thus is also quite intelligent and is currently leading some very interesting scientific studies that add to afore mentioned complications.
In round 1, poll #32, he received 4 votes out of 25, or 16%.
In round L1, poll #12, he received 12 votes out of 23, or 52.2%.
And in round L2, poll #12, he received 9 votes out of 20, or 45%.
In all, he received 25 votes out of 68, or 36.8%.
We are now 5/17 through the character parade!

Day Eighty-Five
Matthew Gabriel Philippe Bertrand Sebastien de Clermont (or more simply) Matthew Clairmont | A Discovery of Witches
Matthew gets to perfectly balance the blood lust and obsession of a vampire with the kind nurturing soul of a human and the brains/determination of a scientist.
This is a year-long commitment but I'm up for the challenge.
Characters aren't in a ranked order.

Monaco : Kohn – Singo, Zakaria, Magassa – Vanderson, Fofana, Camara, Henrique – Minamino, Golovin – Ben-Yedder. Fareed digs and digs and digs, and then decides, in agreement with Seth, to contact Dr. Clairmont and see if he’s open to a meeting. Dr. Clairmont says yes. Fareed wonders if he can entice them to come and work at Collingsworth Pharmaceuticals - from their work history they’ve been to America, so maybe they aren’t opposed to moving around - and then maaaaaaaybe bring them into the blood, if they’re so inclined.
He gets to Oxford. Imagine the JOY he feels when he realises that Dr. Clairmont is not only a science nerd but also a vampire AND the head of his own coven. And that Dr. Shephard and Dr. Whitmore are also vampires, and part of that coven. Of course the vampire doctors are working on genetics and haematology research, it’s what Fareed is doing too!
People in the Chateau can hear his telepathic yelling.
Matthew, Miriam and Marcus do visit Collingsworth and meet Seth and Gregory, who are delighted to meet other blood drinkers, especially ones who are a bit different to them and not in the tribe. Miriam finds this all incredibly boring and annoying until she spots Flannery, and they spend an evening in mutual complaining about the work required to get funding for research projects, the stupidity of the medical profession in general, and men in particular.
Marcus and Victor bond over the work needed to get a medical degree; Marcus offers to lend Victor a couple of textbooks that he found very useful, and poor exhausted Victor, who never complains about anything, allows himself the odd slightly negative emotion out loud. This turns into double dates with Phoebe and Rose, who take to each other like baby ducklings and go on art shopping trips all over the world.
Baldwin, furious at the potential of being discovered by humans due to all this fun collaboration, breaks into the lab and rants at Fareed about how dare he steal his family, insults, threats, etc. This goes on for some time. When he’s run out of steam, Seth raises an eyebrow. Baldwin immediately apologises.
Lestat, completely miffed at being left out of all this jollity, stalks off to Sept-Tours in high dudgeon, where he meets Ysabeau, who tells him, with an imperious stare, to stop sulking because it’s giving her a headache. Lestat falls in love on the spot. They spend hours gossiping about people they’ve come across in the past, and the current state of the world re. vampires, and generally have a marvellous time. (And if Lestat catches the shadows in her mind, the memories of someone much loved who is now dead, well. There’s no reason to tell anyone why he’s holding her hand on the sofa, is there?)
There is a wobbly moment when she introduces him to Diana - the whisper of dread at ‘the witches place’ still lives in the back of his mind - but then he is so enchanted by the babies and their tiny baby fangs that he forgets to care. They get so many presents from him that Diana has started donating them to other family members.
Lestat invites them all to Court. This involves a lot of bothering Barbara to make sure everything is perfect, an actual red carpet, and many, many, complaints to the Council of the Elders from harassed vampires who would like to be left in peace to do their job and not have the Prince breathing down their necks all night. Notker, Antoine and Sybelle compose special music for the visit, to great acclaim and applause. Fernando comes with the de Clermonts, and then escapes the noise of the ballroom for the library where he meets Louis and Mitka. They get on so well that they accidentally form their own coven. Gallowglass is still laughing about it.
Ysabeau dazzles everyone, escorted round the ballroom by Lestat, who is prouder than he’s ever been. Gabrielle is extremely put out.
I was thinking about Fareed again (thanks, @complicitsacrilege) and it occurred to me that it would be absolutely hilarious if he starts coming across all these peer-reviewed articles on haematology and genetics written by Dr. M. Clairmont, Professor of Biochemistry at Oxford University, co-authored by Dr. M. Shephard (with contributions by Dr. M. Whitmore). Can you imagine.

#Repost Deborah Harkness FB page Happy Birthday to Matthew Gabriel Philippe Bertrand Sébastien de Clermont. 🍷🎂🎁🎉 Flashback Post- Deb posted this birthday message to Matthew in 2016: “On this day, All Souls Day, around the year 500 AD, a boy named Matthew was born. He lived in difficult times, and tried to die, only to live again. For more than 1500 years, Matthew has struggled with his personal demons and has represented humanity at its best and worst. He is selfish and selfless, capable of bitter hatred and unconditional love, anger and tenderness, passion and prejudice. He is still, after all these years, a work in progress--just as we all are. Matthew shows us that immortality and wealth are not the answers to any of life's problems. Absence and desire, blood and fear--they spellbind us all, and make us act against the better angels of our nature. If you feel so moved, light a candle today in honor not only of Matthew, but of all the generations of your family who lived and died. You are unique and at the same time contain the sum of their experiences and histories. Even a single pinpoint of candlelight in the darkness is a beacon forward into the rest of your life, and the lives of those who will come after. Happy Birthday, Matthew Clairmont. May you live long and continue to teach us about the power of forgiveness, redemption, and change.” -Deb Cat Photo by Simon Ridgway, from season 2 of A Discovery of Witches https://www.instagram.com/p/Ckd73VSIh-a/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=

Character 78 has won this close poll with 11 votes and will move on to round L3!
And character 94 has lost with 9 votes and will be revealed and eliminated.
Character 94 was...
Matthew Clairmont (or Matthew Gabriel Philippe Bertrand Sebastien de Clermont) from All Souls series!
Season 2, Round L2, Poll #12
Character 78: he was abandoned by his mother when he was like 3 and ended up raised as a child soldier in what was essentially a cult. then he got kidnapped by his stepmother and ended up at ANOTHER CULT, eventually making his way back to the original cult. except then Bad Things Happened so he had to leave, and though he does make friends and get character development everything goes to hell when his best friend dies. he grieves for a few days then gets a message that says his friend is in fact still alive and was resurrected, so he spends the next few months searching for him. he doesn't find anything and goes to boarding school to try and live a normal life, his girlfriend breaks up with him, and then he gets dragged back into his old Fantasy Book Teenage Protagonist Life and gets killed in the most dramatic insane way possible, via getting stabbed by an evil immortal thousands-of-years-old capitalist.
Character 94: A very unique type of vampire others are scared of.
