Imagine you're a ten year old with a brand new Gamecube and you're booting up your first ever 3D Sonic game after years of 2D gameplay on the Sega Genesis, and as the first level begins THIS high energy song starts playing, and it's every bit as epic and cool as you imagined it would be. YES Sonic the Hedgehog, I WILL follow you and set you free and trust you and we will escape from the city. The nostalgic memory of this specific song is part of why I love this game so much. A Big Revelation

Big the Cat and The G-Man from Half-Life are one in the same but inverse. Always hiding somewhere in some level. But they are the inverse in their goals. The G-Man's goals are a mystery and some suspect that one day his plans will be revealed. Big's plans have been known since day one, he is finding Froggy.

Probably not a hot take from me, but...

Sonic The Hedgehog 3 is one of the best family films of 2024.

SPOILERS UNDER THE CUT

It's not a perfect adaptation of Sonic Adventure 2 by any means, but it cleans up a lot of the unessary stuff from the game.

Especially in regards to Maria and the ARK.

I LOVE that the Space Colony ARK doesn't exist in this movie. Because the movie knows it doesn't need it. All it needs to adapt is the research facility where Maria dies and the Eclipse Cannon.

Gerald Robotnik is an interesting character in the film for sure. He still has the same hatred he harbored for humanity in SA2, but with the added bonus of resentment for his grandson, Ivo because, in his own words...

"You're no Maria."

Gerald definitely is playing favorites, and I think it's abundantly clear why. He sees himself in Ivo, and it disgusts him. Whereas with Maria, he can only remember her innocence.

Speaking of Ivo, man, he's great. I mean, he's just all over the place in this film. He's good, he'd bad... and he sure as hell is funny. He and Stone are great, and I love how he finally admits his true thoughts about him during his sacrifice. Stone deserved to be validated for all the shit Ivo put him through over the years.

Now, I wanna move on to our meat and potatoes. Sonic and Shadow. They're phenomenal. Sonic is pretty much the same as he was in Sonic 2, with a little bit of added angst, which is due entirely to the film's themes about family, morality, and loss. Shadow is... jesus... he was amazing. He was everything I wanted him to be. Cool, dark, yet understanding. That being said, I wish they spent more time on Shadow dealing with the issue of what Maria wanted VS getting revenge on GUN with Gerald. I think extending Shadow's conversation with Gerald about their plan and Maria's wish would have done this perfectly and, in turn, better set up his switch to the good side so it's not as "oh yeah I guess we're doing this now."

"Live and Learn."

Okay, time for me to gush about Crush 40.

First of all, SEGA needs to pay Johnny G. what he's owed. Second...

HOLY FUCK

Live and Learn is everywhere in this thing. It's basically Shadow's theme for this film, playing in moments where he's either doing cool shit, or turning further to the light.

And when it played when Sonic and Shadow went Super on the fucking moon?! Oh my god, I would've screamed if it weren't for the fact I was in a public movie theater. You do NOT understand what this means for the next few films. We might actually get songs like "What I'm Made Of" or "His World" adapted for these movies if they keep doing well.

And I don't need a masters degree in Sonic-The-Hedgehogology to tell you how COOL that would be.

Speaking of Sonic, I wanna turn it back to talk about him and Tom. Dude. I love how Tom is immediately ready to join Sonic on his adventures. He loves this kid and wants to support him in any way he can, and I bet Sonic's so happy Tom wants to Hero with him.

"What did you do."

Tom's injury towards the end actually hurt me a bit. I didn't realize how much I cared about him until they played with the possibility of his death in this film. Also, I love what it meant to Sonic. We've seen in Sonic 2 that Sonic has some pent-up aggression for the echidna that killed Longclaw, that he never really properly expresses. The possibility of losing Tom, his best friend and father figure, the first person he connected with after years of isolation, it drives Sonic into a dark mindset. And. I. Love it.

This is what modern Sonic stories need. To give Sonic a wide variety of emotions, for him to act rashly if his closest friends and family are hurt, because it gives him more personality and shows us just how much he cares.

"What was his name...? Tom...?"

I loved everything about the scenes where Tom is hinted at being dead. I love how Shadow sees Sonic's reaction to Tom's potential death, and he has a small realization that he's become just like who he hated. I love watching Sonic panicking because he might be losing his best friend and father. I love how Maddie tries to keep a hold of herself for the sake of Team Sonic. I love the argument between Knuckles and Sonic about the use of the Master Emerald. I love the fight between Super Shadow and Super Sonic. I love how Shadow criticizes Sonic for letting his blind rage take over. I love how he wants Sonic to finish the job, and Sonic realizes what he's doing.

"The light shines, even though the star is gone..."

Sonic and Shadow's brief conversation on the moon is actually really sweet. They share a connection through their losses, and Sonic is able to guide Shadow to the light, by simply telling him to make the right choice. I think it's great because up until now, I think Shadow believed what he was doing WAS the right thing. But after seeing himself become like the GUN agents who ended up killing Maria... He starts to doubt himself. He goes to Gerald, who reassures him that what they're doing is justified, but Shadow doesn't believe that. Note how in that scene he asks if "this is what Maria would have wanted." Gerald responds by basically ignoring his question, saying that destroying earth is what deserves to happen to it. Gerald's own attitude led to his downfall. It's what caused Shadow to realize that he's on the wrong side of the fight by the time Sonic and him are on the moon, sulking.

"There are no winners with revenge."

I love this line from Sonic. It says so much about his past experiences from the last 2 films. He's seen revenge constantly ruin his life. So to be the one delivering it...? It goes against everything he's stood for, crosses a line he doesn't want to cross, and most importantly, sets him up for failure.

"Don't tell me you have a catchphrase.."

I like the comradery between Sonic and Shadow in the Super Hogs v GUN drones fight. They have a newfound understanding for each other that I think would have been able to make them better friends had it not been for Shadow's sacrifice, which will probably lead to the amnesia plot lines from Heroes and Shadow 05, which means it'll probably make Shadow a Sonic hater again. But then again, these movies keep surprising me, so who knows, maybe we won't go that route?

"What..? Who are you?"

Q: What's this blog about?

A: Despite what Tumblr seems to want everyone to think, I am not a twewy blog anymore. I haven't been for a while. This blog is a mixture of things that interest me, and those follow a general trend. I'm into alternative music and related subcultures, 90s & 2000s alt fashion, web 1.0, video games, horror media, and cool edgy graphics. I post about politics every now and again if something catches my attention, but most of my anarchy is done in person, not online. As a rule I don't reblog e-begging or guilt trip posts (e.g. "I don't care what your blog theme is just rb!!!" "If you don't reblog you're horrible!!") because I believe in at least trying to separate my chill online life from my day job.

Q: What kind of alt music do you like?

A: I listen to a lot of classic punk, 90s punk revival, grunge, riot grrrl, emo rock and nu metal, with a bit of death metal and heavy metal.

Q: What alt music subcultures do you consider yourself a part of?

A: I call myself an emo and a punk. I'm not goth, though I've been a fan of the odd goth song here and there.

Q: Do you dress alternative IRL?

A: Yep. I've been doing this since I was about 12 or 13, but I'm a lot better at it now than I was back then. I dress in a mixture of emo and punk looks, usually in black, red, and hot pink. My hair is split-died pink on one side and black on the other.

Q: What's with the web 1.0 obsession?

A: IDK man. Maybe the nostalgia just hit me really hard, but I think it's a bit deeper than that. I'm really fascinated by recent history, and a ton of that is entangled with the internet culture of the late 90s up to 2014 or so. It's cool. Besides, a ton of stuff that I like was in vogue during those decades, so as I do research I end up finding a lot of cool websites and graphics related to bands, games, and other stuff that I'm obsessed with from way back when.

Q: What video games do you like?

A: Action-adventure games with a focus on story have historically been my favorites, especially if they have edgy graphics and music, but I'm willing to try most genres as long as they're on consoles I own. The only games I seriously hate are gacha games and mobile games. And league of legends. I will shoot league players on sight. Arcane fans are okay but you're on thin ice.

Q: What kind of horror media are you into?

A: Mostly video games, but I've seen quite a few horror films on account of my bestie/roommate @g-l-o-w-y-l-i-g-h-t-s. Go follow them if you're interested in vampires. You will see a lot of vampires.

Q: What is your "day job"?

A: I am a volunteer at an anarchist bookstore. I also recently started work as a bouncer at a fairly prominent music venue. Most of what I do when I'm not "on the clock" is political research.

Q: What bands are you listening to right now?

A: Subhumans, Stiff Little Fingers, Superheaven, Deftones, Bikini Kill, Mannequin Pussy, Bad Waitress, Go Betty Go, PXNDX, The Story So Far, The Offspring, Linkin Park (the old stuff), Fall Out Boy (the old stuff), Blink-182, NOFX, Destroy Boys, Three Days Grace, Rise Against, Rage Against the Machine, Narrow Head, Breaking Benjamin, and like a million other bands. I have a lot of CDs.

Q: What games are you playing right now?

A: I've been replaying the Kingdom Hearts series with my roommate. Next games on the list are the rest of the Silent Hill series and Sonic X Shadow Generations. Possibly a replay of the ff7 remake.

Q: What weird outliers should I expect in your media taste?

A: For some reason I have a soft spot for dudebro stuff like the Beastie Boys and Team Fortress 2. Don't ask me why. I have no idea.

Okay, so I finally decided it bc the intrusive ideas don’t let me think straight; this post is based on @jak-milo amazing musical analysis post, go read it bc its beautiful.

As I said before: if there are four Sonic songs that fit Gouenji as Ishido those are “Rhythm and balance”, “For true story”, “Live and learn” and “I am all of me”. In this post I will be analyzing how the two first can adapt to IEGO context.

Well, “Rhythm and balance” first. This song, as well as the rest of the others except “I am all of me” can be found in Sonic Adventure 2. This song starts to play in the dark story, specifically when Shadow is going to rescue Rouge after knowing she got trapped while stealing the master emeralds from Prision Island and starts releating this to the same situation Maria was when she got killed (utterly defensless). With all the trauma he goes to rescue her and this song reflects a full PSDT attack and determination to not let that happen again, revealing that maybe Shadow isn’t a villain.

So, how can this relate to a former soccer player that turned into a monster for the greater good? Let’s see:

“Oh yeah, hurry to the unexplored land”: Part of him is taunting and pushing him to go further and deeper into the madness that is Fifth Sector

“Don't mind the steep slopes or any obstacles”: Gouenji’s inner voice trying to be ready for that madness. He’s really trying to be mentally prepared and us pretending it’s nothing for him, that it doesn’t hurt and it would never scare him. The reality is that he’s in a vast pain and knows perfectly what will happen if his cover blows up or the plan doesn’t work, and he can’t help but feel terrified about the consequences

“Oh yeah, hurry to the unexplored land. I'm not scared at all”: He is either overthinking or having an argument with his fears and doubts, trying to override them as he keeps going with his mission. He can’t stop and won’t stop, what he thinks or feels doesn’t matter when the future of soccer and the kids depends on the success of the mission

“Are you scared of something?”: His fears and guilts trying to make him not go deeper. Part of him wants it to be over and rest, but he knows that if he stops or gets caught is game over

“Oh yeah, hurry to the unexplored land. I don't mind any walls or any obstacles”: Trying to focus on avoiding the eyes of Fifth Sector members, specially Daigo’s eyes. Be as stealthy and sneaky as he can be and strike fast if necessary, he can’t give into the privilege of feeling fears and guilts now even if they are eating him alive

“Oh yeah, hurry to the unexplored land. I'm not scared at all”: I don’t have to elaborate

“I don't wanna hear you”: In this case its him telling his survival instinct and horror to shut up and let him focus on the job, he knows he has to go deeper if he wants to know exactly what Fifth Sector and Daigo had planned if he wants to either sabotage them, win time for the revolution to work out or help anyone that would be affected by that.

“Shadow, don't make me upset”: Replace the Shadow with Gouenji, then you hear Endou’s voice. His guilt adopted the form of Endou because he knows he has hurted and betrayed everyone, his best friends included even if its for the greater good

“I don't wanna hear you”: After imagining what Endou would think about his actions he tries to refocus and tells him to shut up. He knows Endou will be dissapointed by his choices, but even if he wants to see him again the mission is more important than them.

“You are frightened of something”: his rational and more calculating side sounds like Kidou’s voice. It doesn’t matter how much he tries to cover and fight, he’s not okay, everything inside him knows it and he can’t lie. This rational side is either taunting a little or just spitting a well known fact: he sacrificed everything and even became a demon in the eyes of everyone just because he wanted to help, but at the end he’s deeply afraid and hurted of tormenting more and more people, of getting caught or even stay trapped in a position he hates for the rest of his life. If he could express it he would probably give up and his rational side knows it

And now, what about “For true story?” Well, for a song sompossed by only three lines that repeat themselves, in the context of the SA2 game this reflects Shadow’s cynism with life while he’s battling against Sonic. For this I think the song fits perfectly in the IEGO context of ideals, in this case reflecting the cynic reallity of Gouenji/Ishido against Endou’s more hopeful, brighter reallity.

After all, at the end of the day the reallity is that it doesn’t matter how hard someone would try to ignore it or point out that Gouenji was wrong about his choices (or even try to put all the blame on him), the revolution NEEDED someone to make the dirty job and help them from inside the enemy’s ranks. And Gouenji was the person that could fit in the role, even if he had to pay the price and put his life on the line:

“Stars don't twinkle, the moon doesn't shine. Birds don't sing, the wind doesn't blow”: Gouenji, despite what honosuto shows us and how kind-hearted he is, is still a very logic and rational person; negating that stars twinkle, moon shines, birds sing or wind blows would show the cynism and painful reality that he has to live everyday since he became Ishido. Negating the perspective we have about this phenomena and seeing them with the cientifically, cold reality can also reflect the clash of both ideals and ways to feel the pain against Endou.

Endou is realistic too, but at the same time he’s still a very cheerful, positive and fair person to the point some view him as naive and delusional; he couldn’t hurt anyone like other IE villains, neither join Fifth Sector. Gouenji, on the other side, is passional about the sport he loves or the people he cares about, but as said, rational too. Gouenji knew that Fifth Sector wasn’t going to fall down without anyone that could do the dirty job and he was the one that decided to give up everything and put his life on the line.

In one way or another it can be affirmed that Endou was a little naive to think that the revolution could work out by only winning matches and make schools join them. Gouenji knew a reality that hurted him deeply, turning him into a more or less cynic person after having to commit atrocity after atrocity just to keep the plan moving

“To the pure body, to the perfect existence”: The first part of this can reflect Endou’s physical power as shown in the movie and the capacity to train a bunch of kids to keep the revolution alive. The second part reflects the “Ishido” mask as this untochable, unwavering figure of power

“I'm shivering with cold, I struggle against despair”: This is simply a reflection of Gouenji’s tragic state, expressing the pain and loneliness he had faced for years since he became part of Fifth Sector

Those who own Japanese Mega Drives may have seen this cartridge pictured on the back of the box. It all sounds exciting from the title "Sega Games Library" and even looks pretty interesting from the cover, but what is this cartridge? Well, it has no games on it for a start. It's used to get your Mega Drive to connect to the special Sega servers. From there you can do such crap as betting and online banking. I think that's about it really (-_-) On a side note, there were quite several games released on the service, some of which were lost to time. The list of games that were distributed on the service was as follows. Anything marked * means they have been lost, which amounts to only 7 as I counted.

Sonic REGenerations is re-remake of 2011's project Sonic Generations, 2nd bundle of Generations and 3rd title of Generations sub-series.

New Legacy Era appeared as starts from Sonic Rush to Sonic Unleashed, Modern Era starts from Sonic Colors-onwards.

In Sonic REGenerations - Cream, Espio, Charmy and Vector never appears this time in the re-remake (Amy and Knuckles appear as NPC, Silver appears only in Rival Battle Boss and not in cutscenes). It features new choosable and multiplayer playable characters as Alex, Katie and Rooney (Act 2 only) alongside Modern and Classic Sonic (new Act 1 multiplayer character Virtual Sonic but Classic Sonic version). New levels and more. Every main Sonic 5 kids and Mighty appears as NPC and entire soundtrack of this story has re-arranged like Sonic Colors Ultimate. Voice cast has replaced as Modern Sonic by Ben Schwartz, Both Tails' by Ashleigh Ball, Knuckles by Idris Elba and more. Movie Sonic (Ben Schwartz) and Legacy Sonic (Jason Griffith, archive clips on all languages) is new playable characters (not skins). Engine changed to Hedgehog Engine 2.

In Shadow Generations - Marle is new playable character via choosable and co-op. Levels from Classic Sonic titles is now appears and more new content. Shadow is redubbed by Keanu Reeves. Movie Shadow (same v. a. from v. g. counterpart) is no longer as skin and now separate playable character alongside Shadow and Marle also Rival Battle boss of Modern Era.

"Zip, Zap, Zoo! We choose YOU!! Magical problems, can't delay!" - Mahou Cross Generations is a new story in this bundle. The main playable characters is Doremi Harukaze from Ojamajo Doremi, True from True and the Rainbow Kingdom, Abby Hatcher from the show of same name and Kaori Nishino (not "Popuri" and Potpourri" anymore due same names (speech) in PreCure series) from Fun Fun Pharmacy. Oyajide returns to revenge and preparing to conquer the whole world with Amane and Greta-san (from A Little Snow Fairy Sugar), Doremi and friends must stop Oyajide, Amane and Greta-san from conquering with their rhythm, wishery, fuzzly and spirit powers. A new magical adventure awaits. Gameplay mechanics inspired of BIT.TRIP RUNNER series and Super Mario Bros. Wonder (Wonder Effects).

Also features a new mode - Challenge Mode. Alex, Sonic, Katie and Rooney visiting in two stories as Shadow Generations and Mahou Cross Generations (Bosses set as hard difficulty, collection keys and rank system will be removed).
