The Game's Afoot! The Spirit Awards, Critics Choice Awards and Golden Globes nominations have been announced, the Academy Awards shortlist for ten categories have been released.
While I am very happy for some of the nominations, I hate that some really good films seem to have little to no steam. Iceland's submission TOUCH was a very early favourite, but lost ground to KNEECAP and now KNEECAP is fading with I'M STILL HERE becoming the new International Film darling. But hope is still alive as all three were shortlisted.
And with even the starfxckers of the HPFA not recoginzing Michael Gracey's stunning Robbie Williams fantastical biopic BETTER MAN,
I worry that (outside of the technical categories) the film won't be recognized by the AMPAS. Thankfully the Australian Academy of Cinema and Television Arts (AACTA) has given the film 11 nominations. I hope people don't get deterred by the device that Robbie is played as a monkey (with actor Jonno Davies giving a tour de force motion capture performance). The rationale behind the simian depitction? While interviewing Willams, he remarked on how he felt like a performing monkey and that stuck in Gracey's head. Gracey also said that people tend to feel more compassion for animals than other people, so by not showing Robbie as a human, people won't get hung up on notions that he's unrelatable due to his celebrity or judge him by his addictions. I think people need to see it for themselves beause BETTER MAN is spectacular on every level, truly; ridiculously so.
Beyond BETTER MAN, there are movies/performances I love and want to see win like CONCLAVE, TOUCH or KNEECAP for International Film, and Clarence Maclin for SING SING, Aunjanue Ellis-Taylor for NICKEL BOYS, Adam Pearson for A DIFFERENT MAN and NOSFERATU for Sound Design; but the only film I have really felt truly passionate about this year is BETTER MAN.
What are some of the other in contention films I've seen?
My lazy rankings - up arrow for "Loved", down arrow for "Didn't Love", straight line for "Good / Adequate".
TL; DR-ness
A24's FYC Slate.
Happy that Sebastian Stan is being recognized for A DIFFERENT MAN (and THE APPRENTICE), but it is outrageous that his costar Adam Pearson isn't being talked about. He's sublime. Without his counter to Stan's character, there would be no movie.
And if Clarence Maclin doesn't get a nod for Best Supporting in SING SING, I'd be destroyed.
AMAZON/MGM's FYC SLATE
Amazon/MGM is really bullish on NICKEL BOYS and that cast have shaking hands and kissing babies since September. While not a terrible film it is a slog to get through and the fact that it is told in first person perspective, for me, felt like it tamped down on the storytelling. UNSTOPPABLE is a really good film, but nothing about it screams cinematic. It's just a solid inspirational true story sports film the same way Amazon/MGM's THE FIRE INSIDE is (with a strong performance from Ryan Destiny and an excellent one from Brian Tyree Henry) and the same way Disney's YOUNG WOMAN AND THE SEA is.
FOCUS FEATURES FYC SLATE
Very strong slate with CONCLAVE and TOUCH being the best of the bunch. PIECE BY PIECE is special because using Legos as stand-ins is 1) so him; and 2) vastly helps it from being a staid documentary.
And the real treat? Having all of the absolute bangers Pharrell has had a hand in lined up. People turned on him for "Happy" and "White Lines", and many have taken sides in the Pharrell Williams /Chad Hugo estrangement, but no one can *ever* say Pharrell isn't a musical genius.
NOSFERATU should get recognized for sound design, most definitely; maybe makeup/costume design. An excellent film, sure, but nothing (other than the technical aspects) stands out.
NETFLIX FYC'S SLATE
EMILIA PEREZ's rock opera aspects turns people off, people are criticizing Zoe Saldana for running in Supporting when many thinks she is a co-lead (therefore our first (only?) accusation of Category Frau this season; and actor Eugenio Derbez slagged off Selena Gomez's performance, but I loved it.
THE PIANO LESSON is fantastic! Director Malcolm Washington (son of Denzel and brother of John David, who stars in the film) really made August Wilson's play cinematic. Incredible performances all around and while Danielle Deadwyler is the name being bandied about the most (for very good reasons) Michael Potts and, amazingly, Ray Fisher, were the MVPs in my eyes.
PARAMOUNT's FYC SLATE
A QUIET PLACE DAY ONE is an also ran. They are not serious about that film. BETTER MAN should be the one they push; SEPTEMBER 5 (the telling of the 1972 Munich Olympics terrorist attack told from the ABC Sports news team)-another excellent film: riveting, timely, but this could have been on Paramount+.
SEARCHLIGHT FYC SLATE
SONY PICTURES FYC SLATE
An embarrassment of riches. SATURDAY NIGHT is atrocious and should have been a TV movie and HERE - a film about a house and its inhabitants through centuries - is sweet and poignant, but no stand out performances.
UNIVERSAL'S FYC SLATE
WB'S FYC SLATE
SUPER/MAN: THE CHRISTOPHER REEVE STORY is fantastic and I love that it not only focuses on him, but his wife Dana, as well. It's a very well-rounded, warts-and-all look at Reeves.Sadly, it did not make the Oscar's shortlist.
WALT DISNEY STUDIOS FYC SLATE

I AGREE. Ben Daniels deserves to be campaigned and nominated! I mean, he is billed as a series regular for Interview with the Vampire season 2. He is not a guest character nor tagged as recurring. He was part of the principal cast. And even if this was a one season commitment, it’s the more that AMC should campaign for him. Go big or go home! He was always in press releases and promos. It is understandable that he was unable to do press work due to the death of his husband, but everyone else, from critics to casual viewers, unanimously praise Ben’s performance as the vampire villain Santiago. Well, everyone loves to hate him! But he made Santiago very compelling and interesting. Yeah, sure, he and Armand had been intimate but Armand chose Louis and Santiago was displeased and plotted to get on top. Go figure.
I for one could not believe that he has yet to be nominated for the big guns of television awards - the Critics Choice, Golden Globes, BAFTA, TCA, the Emmys. As for SAG though, well, he won an Ensemble award for The Crown years ago, but the individual nomination matters more, which so far he has yet to be nominated.
If AMC cannot afford to campaign for him, others will do it for him. His agents, publicists, etc. Yes, I am a fan like anyone else, though I wish I work with his team. (Are they hiring? I do have a bit background of copywriting if they’re interested. LOL) Speaking of AMC’s awards campaign, err, the one you post is not really how you campaign. I subscribe to Variety’s emails and lurk at Gold Derby often, and it’s always the same shows that get in because their network goes all in their campaigns. Honestly, it is up to us fans who will start doing it for him. Let’s hype him up! Let’s share posts, tweets, clips, photos, etc.

I wish AMC would submit Ben for Emmy consideration. I love love love Assad, Sam and Eric, but for a smaller part then theirs, Ben made such a magnificent impact on the show. He stole the spotlight whenever he was onscreen.
The AMC network's marketing team should look into the performers who did the best performance. Not actors who had the most episodes. Even though the main cast members deserved the consideration, it is not right for several notable actors who had a smaller role. Plus, it is for the Critics Choice Awards, which is different from the Emmys Awards.

Yes, Sam is a very talented actor who deserves nominations and wins. Yes, he was nominated for supporting actor and not leading actor, which is supposedly a more accessible category. Yes, he is nominated for a Critics' Choice Awards and AMC did include Assad on the FYC banners for that award. Yes, he didn't point a gun at anyone and forced them to ignore Jacob, Delainey and Assad. Yes, Sam probably agrees they deserve nominations too.
That is not the point. I'm gonna give the benefit of the doubt that these are just accidentally ignorant comments and not actual racism, but please, that is not the point. Doesn't change the fact AMC didn't acknowledge Assad for the Golden Globes campaign, when he played a way bigger role this season. Doesn't change the fact they didn't put Assad, a main actor, on the Comic Con posters and replaced him with a recurring actor that isn't even on the show anymore. Doesn't change the fact some articles aren't even mentioning Assad's name, which is a pretty clear Arabic/Muslim name and bigotry against those groups has skyrocketed since last year. It doesn't change the fact that Jacob got snubbed by CCA. Doesn't change the fact that so did Delainey. And it definitely doesn't change the fact it isn't the first and I doubt it will be the last time something like that happens.
And every time people concentrate on the technicalities of who is responsible for what, who was on the GG banners and who was on the CCA ones, and what Sam has to do with it or not, you're deflecting from the real point of the conversation. And if I haven't been extremely eloquent and clear, the point is RACISM. And CCA, AMC, the industry in general and the fandom have all participated in the racism these wonderful actors have dealt with, one way or another. And I beg people finally focus on the actual problem.

Critics Choice Awards - For Your Cosideration
instagram
• Best Drama Series
• Best Actor, Drama Series — Jacob Anderson
• Best Supporting Actress, Drama Series — Delainey Hayles
• Best Supporting Actor, Drama Series — Sam Reid, Assad Zaman, Eric Bogosian.
Be loud on social media people, using the "#InterviewWithTheVampire #FYC #CriticsChoiceAwards" the cast names, scenes that displays the cinematography, performances from S2 and all that jazz. and i know we have our faves, but let's show love to everyone because they deserve it. Also like, comment and share amc official posts
Unfortunately iwtv doesn't have the power behind it that HoTD and Rings of Powers has, but it has prestige, which is why it's so important for the series to make waves again for the awards season. also stream on AMC+ and Netflix even if is just S1, entering the TOP 10 on netflix would be perfect timing but we can only dream lol

one thing that's missing from these convos about amc not submitting assad zaman for a golden globes nom that makes it 10x more malicious on amc's part is that a nomination isn't just like oh... ~simple appreciation for an actor's performance. even if there's no win, it results in a profile boost for these actors & them being able to command a higher salary when it comes to future projects. it's something that gets notice on their CV. these studios and networks love being able to market their shit with things like "starring golden globe nominee john doe" or "emmy winner jane doe." the emmys are more prestigious than the golden globes which are more prestigious than the critics choice awards (the one they submitted him for with two other actors lol). actors get nominated and have the opportunity to get attention from social media posts, article mentions, attending the red carpet, having their name announced and a little clip of their acting shown. that's not nothing! attention from possible new fans, publications, execs, peers, producers, directors, fashion houses & other industries which could lead to $$$ and sponsorships. I won't make any presumptions about the cast's finances but I do know amc is probably not paying them their worth, least of all the bangladeshi muslim who barely had any major roles in tv/film prior to the show.
there are fees and costs associated with submitting for awards consideration and FYC ads. the network basically took a look at assad's brown skin and name and said they don't think he's worth the money over the white actor who had less screentime and narrative importance (to the season ig) which is absolutely crazy lmao. it shouldn't be controversial to say that and you can't not discuss this without bringing up sam's name. this has nothing to do with whether he "deserved" to be submitted (and even if I said he doesn't deserve it over assad who's gonna beat my ass?). this white man isn't being persecuted by conversations about blatant racism. but I'd expect nothing less from this fanbase x.
#assad zaman#i don't go here much bc this show's fandom sucks ass lmao#like yeah the show/actors probably aren't getting nominated but on the off chance they do??#amc count your days#them submitting assad for less-known-and-less-expensive-to-campaign-for CCA alongside two white actors means nothing#what it really boils down to is a global flareup of islamophobia like another reblog stated#the worst thing is watching this fandom woobify sam#& twist the words of anyone discussing it to act like shots are being taken at jacob/delainey by every single person#who says assad is experiencing a different kind of racism or any racism at all.#not to say those ppl don't exist and shouldn't be called out#but you can just tell these crusaders are painting everyone with a broad brush to stymie any criticism of amc & sam's submission.#assad experiences a different kind of racism bc he isn't black & doesn't experience the antiblack racism that jacob/delainey do#that's not an opinion or playing oppression olympics it's just a fact.#I have to read the most racist antiblack shit imaginable about jacob and delainey constantly as a bw#only for these people to throw their names around for cover & act like amc is the most moral anti-racist network for submitting them.#meanwhile a random person wouldn't even know how prominent the issue of race is within the show#with the way amc promotes it and actively prevents any discussion of race in interviews and panels.#every day fanart and posts of that decrepit white man plowing armand's delicate ass will do numbers#every day they'll bring up sam gifting assad some cheap suspenders#but crickets about any discussion of racism from those people.#can't even say shit about a white man not being deserving of something the network decided can only go to one person.#white ppl & their feelings have to be centered every fucking time even when unfair treatment is happening to their marginalized coworkers.#and now the prevailing narrative is ppl being mean to their poor meow meow sam :(#which ofc it is lmao

Matt Bomer's 2024 looks, part 2
Time for Matt's 2024 event looks part 2! Part 1 can be found here.
Matt has treated us to such unbelievable, unprecedented beauty this June that I still haven't nearly recovered from it. This time it's almost impossible to choose a favourite look, or even a favourite picture for each look - so profoundly stunning are they.
This post is only about his physical looks/outfits, but there's a thing or two to be said about how lovely he has been, too, and he has really moved through this promo period with such seemingly effortless grace. I love him more than ever, and miss him terribly right now.
Anyway, on to the pictures. I've included the Getty Museum look, even though it's from a photo shoot and not an event, because it's just so gorgeous.
Getty Museum photo shoot, 31 May 2024
Fellow Travelers FYC panel, 1 June 2024
White Collar panel, 6 June 2024
IndieWire Honors, 6 June 2024
Critics Choice event, 7 June 2024
Fellow Travelers FYC panel, 8 June 2024
Peabody Awards, 9 June 2024
Santoni show, 16 June 2024
Prada show, 16 June 2024
Tod's show, 16 June 2024
Armani show, 17 June 2024
Filming Italy photocall, 22 June 2024
Filming Italy red carpet, 22 June 2024
Filming Italy red carpet, 23 June 2024
Comments:
Matt in an all-white suit and perfect hair, strolling around a museum? Swoon!! I was completely dead already at this point, and it wasn't even June yet.
Matt in an all-burgundy suit, with soulful eyes and a button malfunction? Consider me weak!
That's Neal Caffrey, all right. Stunning!
Same day, still super cute
All-white suit again, completely drop-dead gorgeous. Also, I love this signature pose of his.
Then, just as I thought it couldn't get better, he wore all-black instead, including a silky cardigan with nothing underneath, and basically looked better than ever. Here I was really starting to lose it.
Looking proper in an all-navy suit, but still seductive as hell with the open buttons. Very sexy!
Then we get to the Milan Fashion Week and really dangerous waters. First up is the Santoni show, where Matt wore a mint green outfit that looked incredible. Even if the beard was still longish (I prefer it short), this look was astonishing to me. His hair was amazing too. In some pictures, these clothes leave rather little to the imagination (in the best way possible). He looks both sweet and ultra-sexy.
At the Prada show his beard was shorter, which is why my brain completely short-circuited from this point onwards. How he managed to look great in a blue leather shirt and leather shorts I do not know, but he looked so cute, and young.
At the third show the same day, Tod's, he - unbelievably - again looked better than ever before. Extremely dilfy in a good way, just simply jaw-dropping. Best look so far. Should have been impossible to top (no pun intended).
But then came the next day and the Armani look, which broke the internet. I'll choose this one as my favourite, and actually it's possibly my favourite look ever on Matt. Everything is perfect: his curly hair, even shorter beard/stubble, ARMS, and how his body looked when he walked in those white trousers. I don't think any man could ever be better looking than this.
Not much to say. Gorgeous hair. Shirt not so nice. He's beautiful.
Matt in a silk suit? Yes please.
This look is really extremely hot. Love it!!
So, my favourites are:
Armani show
Tod's show
June 8 FYC panel
What are your favourites? I'm so curious to know what everyone thinks.
Thanks to mattbomerfan.com for most of the pictures!

i think 2x05 and 2x08 were submitted as awards nominations for the writers specifically!!! so i think delainey’s entire performance will still be able to be looked at (as it should be, bc she did such a wonderful job)
also. bc i’m curious and because i’m also kind of angry. thoughts abt assad being left out???
I hope you are right that Delainey will get looked at for the whole season! She deserves all the praise.
As does Assad.
My thoughts about Assad and FYCs and noms are still the same as when the FYC /noms of the Critic's Choice happened:
Sam and Jacob are co-leads. Assad... is not.
You may find that unfair, inappropriate, wrong, whatever. I get the disappointment(!).
It just is what it is, completely outside of preference or personal judgement.

Ngl I'm never going to understand AMCs award choices- pushing episode 5 but no Assad push? Putting forward Delainey but submitting two episodes she actually isn't in? (Like what a set up for failure there) Nominating Jacob and Sam together and splitting the vote? Not to mention the shit show it'll be if Sam does get a nom? No best ensemble fyc?
I know right it's all so stupid and baffling. 2.08 was imo a weakest episode of the season too so it's a weird pick. I get with SAG awards there isn't a supporting actor category they could've campaigned for Assad, but then still putting Sam in the same category with Jacob is ridiculous. They should've just focused on Jacob and Delainey and not push a supporting character with like 20 minutes of screen time this season. The choices amc makes are blatantly influenced by racism and i need people to stop trying to explain it away and act like we need to protect corporations from criticism

Yeah, I don't really mention Sam talking about racism because as you said, he's not a villain or hero here. I've only mentioned him regarding the FYC campaign because it should've been both Sam and Assad or just Assad (in case they could only pick one, which I doubt) and now because there are people finding a way to make it about rpf. On the plantation incident I didn't bring him up because there was no point in it. Anyways, I've realized the fandom is very much like that and is not going to change, so I just block them now. But unfortunately sometimes it still pops up on my dash somehow.
Yeah. I'm lucky I haven't seen it. It's pretty embarrassing to hear people acting like this. It's also the first time I've had front row seats to award season racism, as I usually don't have a movie or show I really care about in the running, so I would hear about it secondhand. Jacob, Delainey, Assad, Sam, and Eric are all immensely talented people, and I really want to see them get that recognition for helping create this show that I care so much about, and it hurts to see them get swept under the rug. It hurts especially when the only one to get nominated is the white one, when I feel like the rest of them have done so much more this season. You almost have to laugh at how blatant it is. And seeing fans go after each other and the actors when we should all be directing our anger at the CC and AMC... It's just disheartening. Critic's Choice, AMC, the fans, we all failed our POC actors here, I fear.
#iwtv#fandom racism#industry racism#forgive me if this is in any way a flawed read of the situation#but i do know for sure that racism is involved here#i mean awards aren't really that objective at the end of the day#it's not as if whoever decided sam was nominated and no one else was like#''oops sorry we crunched the numbers and sam just has a way higher Acting Score than the rest of the IWTV actors''#someone a couple weeks ago (i forget who) suggested that sam couldve been given the fyc uncontested to give him a boost of recognition going#into s3 as the new lead#i dont know for sure if thats true but i wouldnt be surprised if everyone is fucking over these actors for cynical showbiz reasons#like awards are all BS at the end of the day#some more than others#doesn't mean it doesn't matter#it does matter for the actors#im rambling sorry#it's all just very sad
