It would take an entire army of men to pull Nanami away from this maddening hunger for you that he would rather suffocate within your flesh. But he couldn’t ruin you much further. Not yet. Just as you slowly died on his countertop, he gave one look at you one last time, analyzing every inch and every crevice of your body like you truly were his masterpiece of fine dining. A beautiful meal he could make out of you right now, the thought of cooking and tenderizing your organs and eating you like some writhing sea-shape into his gaping maw overbeared his senses just by how delicious you tasted for him.

It was time.

It was finally time.

He cleared his counter and cleaned everything else in his kitchen, leaving your dead, gorgeous body laying there displayed for him like a buffet. A brand new knife he unsheathed from his drawer, sharpened very precisely for cutting into your skin and mutilating your limbs with no imperfections. He proceeded to slice thoroughly, just like every animal meat he’s ever touched, wanting to save you and marinate most parts of you for future meals. He started with your arms, saving the tough meat from your forearms for soups and the upper arm to slow cook like lamb shanks. Then your ribs, which is his favorite meal that he couldn’t wait to grill for barbecue some day. And then to your neck, which was perfect for hungarian goulash.

There were so many parts of you that he managed to chop up and save for BBQ steak, scotch filet, slow roasts, and soups for future recipes. And then there was the rest of you that he couldn’t wait to eat raw, like your heart. Your lungs. Your spleen. Your thighs. Your eyeballs.

But of course, there were parts of you that he couldn’t eat. The human brain may seen fatty and tasty to some, but it’s enough to kill your braincells if ever ingested. Liver is also toxic; with too much of its Vitamin A, it’s enough to weaken your body, make you nauseous, and induce general body aches and pains.

He had a plate of your fresh heart right before him, seated at his dining table. Taking his knife and fork, he chopped a fine piece for him to eat. As powerful as an orgasm fulfilling him, kindling flames of carnal ecstasy and desire, he’s never had anything so delectable that the taste of you ripped through him like wildfire. You were perfect. You tasted orgasmic. Ravaging and ravishing in your flavor that he couldn’t wait to eat the rest of you. And now that you were apart of him, together forever, nothing was going to separate this beautifully morbid union.

But it wasn’t until another wicked idea comes across his head.

It’s only been a day since you’ve gone “missing.” You weren’t answering when your boyfriend, Gojo, tried calling you; absolutely worried that you didn’t make it home last night. But when he finally received a text sent from your phone saying to meet him back at the restaurant at a specific time, he was relieved that you were okay.

But something wasn’t right.

The restaurant was empty. Most of the chairs were stacked on top of the table and there weren’t many employees. Somehow a hostess allowed him in and directed him over to a single table in the center of the restaurant, the table candles brightly lit and a single chandelier illuminating right above him. It was quiet. Uneasy. A little bone-chilling to be the only one sitting in this restaurant all alone with a hostess. He tried calling for you, but the service appeared to be down. He looked around and was about to get up from his seat until the kitchen doors swing wide open.

A tall man with neatly styled blond hair and glasses steps out with a tray of food, dressed in a waiter attire with a white apron. Gojo halted, drawing his eyebrows together in bewilderment as the he walks over towards his table and gently sets the tray down, revealing a large bowl of hot soup that he’s never seen on the menu before.

“Apologies for the inconvenience. I believe I also haven’t properly introduced myself,” the man spoke so eloquently. “I am Nanami Kento. The owner of this restaurant.”

“Oh.” Gojo was still slightly frazzled with confusion, nervous eyes darting every corner and avoiding eye contact with Mr. Nanami just to find you. “Well, it’s nice to meet you, sir, but have you seen my girl? We’re regulars here. And where is everybody?”

“Your girlfriend is already here.” Nanami’s gaze grows cold and aloof as if the frames of his glasses grew dark, unable to recognize his eyes. “And because you two are my regulars, I decided to give you the extra special treatment and booked you for today only. Everything is on the house, including this soup. Tell me what you think.”

Gojo inhaled the bowl of soup, taking in the aroma of hints of vegetables like onions, carrots, potatoes, herbs, and other spices. But there was an unfamiliar, pungent scent that he couldn’t quite put his finger on…

“Wait, is this new? I don’t think I’ve ordered the soup from here like this before. What is it?”

“This is the Rich Liver & Potato Gratin,” Nanami deadpanned, trying his hardest to contain himself from how much of a nuisance your boyfriend is to him. “It was just added as my latest rendition to the menu and you will be the first to try.“

Gojo hummed in response, now piqued with curiosity from the slight reassurance. He took his soup spoon and delved it in the bowl, picking up a pieces of liver and the chopped potatoes. He gently blows on it before taking it to his lips and slurping it, the savory broth enveloping his body with warmth.

“Fuck. Holy shit this is amazing.” With every spoonful, his entire body relaxed, and a sense of nourishment washed over him. “What did you put in this, sir? Is this like beef broth with pork liver?”

“No, sir. It’s your girlfriend.”

Just as he swallowed a piece of the “liver” from his “soup,” a horrifying clarity washed over him after his brain thoroughly registered his sentence. At first, Gojo was in denial. He frowned. Then hefted out a weak chuckle. Then he threw his head back in maniacal laughter that his spit and tiny pieces of his food landed on the table from chewing with his mouth open. “What! I didn’t know you were this fucking funny, man. I mean, I’d say this tastes just as good as my girl. Is that what you mean?”

“No, sir. I completely made this with just her remains.”

“Wait, what?” Gojo scoffed, and Nanami tried his best to contain every fiber of his being from literally stabbing him repeatedly until that cocky grin disappears from his face. Hopefully the affect wouldn’t take too long to kick in before your dumb boyfriend’s brain could finally click.

“This soup that I presented for you… is made out of your girlfriend’s liver. Her beautiful flesh that I cut out of her precisely, all cooked and ready just for you. But do be warned…”

The aftertaste suddenly became grotesquely rich and acrid to Gojo, lingering disturbingly in his mouth with an unsettling metallic tang. It wasn’t until the horrifying realization dawned on him slowly, making him feel physically nauseous. A creeping unease settled in his stomach. He could feel the pain gradually intensify into this gnawing pain as Mr. Nanami’s words reverberated like a distant echo in his mind. Sweat started to break out on his forehead. His stomach couldn’t stop twisting and contorting erratically that he clutched on his abdomen.

“… and because of overdose of Vitamin A, the human liver is too toxic to be consumed. At least I was nice enough to share her distasteful leftovers to you,” he spoke lowly, ominous and threatening. “It was just like you wanted. Eating your beloved girlfriend if she was on our menu.”

Gojo’s numb body collapsed to the floor, the cold tiles pressing against his pale face. The Rich Liver & Potato Gratin that has never tasted so delicious to him was nothing but a cruel, insidious poison. Darkness edged into his sight and his consciousness wavered, a sign that his life was fading greatly.

Nanami stared blankly at his dead body as if he was unamused, but inside he was finally relieved that he’s no longer alive to pester him or anybody else. He had enough money to cover the whole crime scene, including the mysterious disappearance of you. Hell, even his employees under his wing would take care of the situation for him, like his hostess that cleaned up the mess on his floor and the chefs taking care of his body and getting rid of him forever.

As the weeks progressed, Nanami still made meals out of your flesh that he’s been storing in his freezer. On Saturday night he made ribs with Korean BBQ inspiration. And the moment he indulged in your ribs served sliced, rolled in romaine lettuce leaves with white rice, browned garlic slices, gochujang, along with the sweet and savory sesame and soy sauce marinade, he almost came in his pants seated at his dining table from just how beautiful you tasted.

And eventually, if he were to run out of your flesh one day, at least he got to keep your beautifully decapitated head in his freezer like a trophy.

He was nervous , he was excited and he was totally and utterly completely caught in the spell .  His mom was right all those years he thought the woman lost the plot he wish she could of told her she was right . Maybe he was jumping the gun but then again the woman he was currently going on a first date with could ask him to jump and he would ask how high . 

“ you’ll know , when you meet them you’ll know” those words his mother trying to teach him growing up suddenly crystal clear.  

“ so where ya taking me bradley brooster radley” god even her voice was perfect he could stay mute rest of his life and listen to that voice . 

“Well i  made reservations at  this new fusion fever  place it does a little everything so well i wouldn’t get the food wrong , then i have a little surprise after on the beach”. 

“ you aint planning on killing me right?” she teased . 

“ you never … your brother occasionally have thought about it” he chuckled . 

“ he’s a softy really  he gives you problems just tell him marley and me , that man got in such a fit of despair my mama almost few to san diego til we let him talk to our dog back home “ she giggled . 

“ damn that’s kinda cute and makes him human plus i may of cried with him and went to  dog shelter “ he laughed awkwardly.  

“ did  you get dog … oh can i meet him “ she almost jumped up excited. 

“ i can so get one no i will get one and you can meet it “ he smiled  noting to himself to go back to that shelter  wondering if their was a 24 hour one  that was a thing right ?  .

The moment the pulled up he was on his best game jumping out of the car so fast he stumble , slightly praying it was dark enough she didn’t notice as he went to the other side opening the door  holding his hand out  and escort her like the queen she was to the door .  even pulling her chair out once they were shown to the table he may of nearly pushed the matradee out of the way to do so but he’d tip the man on way out or not  .. maybe .  She had head turning moment she walked in and honestly as much as he hated it he didn’t blame them she was stunningly beautiful from the casual sweaters and jean shorts he’d seen her or the other outfits he’d seen her back when they were strangers  but now the white sundress had every part loving it .  her bright eyes and smile  he could see as his personal beacon calling him home every night ,  or  that voice of hers leading him like a siren  at sea .  he listened intently cementing everything she told him about herself in turn sharing  things about himself  from his favorite color  to his parents which was never something he shared on a first day but yet he told her stories of his mom and ones he could remember of his dad . she told him stories of what it was like having jake as a big brother and  one thing he could never argue with was that hangman did love his family . she was the youngest of the five sisters and well seven kids in total which in turn he joke if her parents needed a tv but honestly if she wanted twenty kids he would give them to her. 

“ hey they kept going til they got perfection” she smirked that sarcastic side he could only imagine how much it irritated jake giving he  was the same. 

 “ i don’t doubt that at all “ he winked . 

“ honestly i’m surprised there isn’t little seresin out there with that hound dog i call a brother” she snorted . “ sure they’re are in texas but none are jakes “ she smiled . 

“ do you miss it , texas “ he asked . 

“ sometimes but i like it here , plus it not too far away i mean a day or less car trip if i’m really feeling homesick  plus jakes here so it  makes it less lonely and makes my mama sleep better and my papa not driving up check on me all time “ . 

“ well you have me here too i mean you know what i mean “ he blushed . 

“ good to know i’ll keep it on mind that bradley brooster radley is there to kept little ole me less lonely” she winked. 

“ what made you become a kindergarten teacher ?” 

“ wow you really do wanna know it all huh? Well i love kids i always did even growing up   i was always the one to well cause the trouble and wild child but even then i wanted to be teacher and well having all those nieces and nephews i was always good with the younger years mama said i had the touch  and my sister emily well she said i’d make a good kindergarten teacher “  . 

“ well from the way you talk about your kids , your class honestly is already telling that your a great teacher definitely one that going to make impact “ he gushed . 

 “ well thank you ,  i hope so” she smiled shyly . “ it’s not as exciting as what you do though hell i’d be scared shitless getting in one of those hornets y’all flyboys got balls ” . 

“  hey don’t knock it til you try it  , maybe you just need the right flyboy sweetheart” he winked. 

“ is that so?”. 

“ oh baby you’ll love it in mine … my jet i mean “ he gulped. 

“ guess we’ll add it to future dates if this one stays as great as it is so far” she patted his cheek as she stood . “ i need to use the little girls room i’ll be back “ and honestly he tried really but he almost fell out of the chair when he look watching how her hips swayed as she walk .  “ shit behave” he scolded himself. 

Once desert was finish and he left a big tip and paying before she could even see the bill hit the table he once again escorted her to the bronco opening the door and even putting the belt on for her jesus even the sent of her perfume had him so intoxicated in her .  with check that the beach plan was a go before he got in the driver side  . what he didn’t expect was the moment he sat down ready to turn was her lips to peck his cheek. One simple action and he was short circuiting  needed a moment before he even started the car. The whole car ride they talked more possibly more than she ever did on a first day . bradley brooster radley had her talking of anything and everything and  he was actually listening . the whole time he was a perfect gentlemen she almost thought she was dreaming . never had she ever been treated in such a way. She had hard time not swooning and keeping her cool most of the  time . he was nothing she ever met before . honestly she noticed him back everytime she would pass him it was likes something out of a movie and many time she was thinking of saying something but he was gone by time she could and honestly night she tired in the hard deck but jake pushed her out the door before she could get more out of her mouth and then her chance she took it that first time in the cafe honestly she was bucket of nerves and then well now here she was having the best date of her life and hope there would be more . 

Pulling to the hard deck her head tilted in confusion she could of sworn he said the beach as he got out opening her door and unbuckling her belt . this time when he took her hand she intertwined their fingers it was cute even in the night she could see the red on his cheeks or how wide his smile was . they walked near the entrance of the hard deck only to turn as then she seen it just at the back and indeed on the beach the  light that led them down to were a blanket sat on the sand  along with a  basket and what looked like a speaker sat waiting and flowers more specifically her favorite . 

“ your brother may have help but didn’t think i’d have a first date and not get the most beautiful girl i’ve ever seen flowers “ he smile picking them up and handing them to her . 

“ shit are you even real “ she gasped still in awe taking it all in .

“Well i remember  you told me your favorite thing was to watch the stars  so what’s better then watching them on a beach with the sounds of the waves  but i was hoping you would dance with me first he tapped his phone as her mouth fell open . “ ok jake might of helped with that too “ he smiled shyly as sound of la vie an rose played .  “ so would you care to dance” he held his hand out . 

“ how could i say no this is wow” she was lost for words in the best way possible as she took his hands putting them on her waste as she wrapped her arm around his neck as the two swayed around eyes locked both slowly closer til there forehead where touching .

“ yup this was definitely fate” he finally said. 

“ bradley radley brooster shut up and kiss me” she smiled.

“ yes  ma’am “ he leaned down his lips touch her and if he wasn’t a goner before (which he was )  , he was definitely  a goner now for the future mrs bradshaw .

Hai, so I've been working on, as weird/cringe as this might sound, a OC for On Borrowed Time, and was wondering, is there any particular rhyme or reason behind how OBT characters look

On the same topic, do the names have proper meaning behind them, like Dielle, Malachi, any particular reason that's the name you landed apon, or was it random chance?

// Aw, not weird and cringe at all! I find it very flattering. The design philosophy of OBT characters has morphed over time as my own artistic preferences have changed- early designs for the comic favored features that I personally enjoyed (fluffy mammals, spiky dragon-y reptiles, white scleras and human-ish eyes). You can see this in Rune and Dielle, for example!

As I've continued my journey through art though, I've found I appreciate a lot of the canon designs of pokemon. When new characters are introduced, you may find that they stick closer to their canon designs, since I now have an easy time drawing them.

As a little drawing exercise, I even drew Rune and Dielle in a style closer to canon recently!

And honestly... I kinda prefer it! But their designs in the comic are pretty cemented at this point, and I still enjoy them even if they aren't 100% my preference anymore.

The other part of OBT's designs are that they have a notable feature- which will usually be either clothing or hybridization. Again, Dielle is an example of the latter (hence why her outfits are pretty sparse), and my general idea is to not clutter designs with too many elements that the species of the pokemon is completely unrecognizable. This is also why OBT doesn't (often) accept true fusion cameos- as far as OBT's worldbuilding is concerned, actual 50/50 hybrids are pretty much unheard of! Every pokemon has a base species they belong to, though they can have traits of another parent species.

Going back to the former point with clothing, look no further than our resident duck!

Where the standout part of their design is the cool clothes they wear. In general I've also been trying to make more of an effort to have more purebred designs show up in OBT, though mileage varies there haha.

As for names, they're mostly selected just based on if they sound nice for the character in question! I'll occasionally look up name meanings as a sort of tiebreaker, but mostly I go off of the list I talked about in this ask here when I'm in need of a name!

THE DEATH OF CLEOPATRA /1659-63/ by GUIDO CAGNACCI

The painting represents the last active ruler of the Ptolemaic Kingdom of Egypt, Cleopatra, in her last moments following her suicide. She is portrayed as calm and serene, in a resigned state, after being bitten by an asp. It is a representation that gives way to the structural evocation of tragic beauty and nobility at her last moments.

Cagnacci applies a very dynamic composition for this dramatic moment. The queen is reclined, and all around are her attendants in expressive gestures and facial expressions, creating the feeling of urgency and tension.

The coiled asp on Cleopatra's arm symbolizes death and, at the same time, the power of choice in her suicide, cementing Cleopatra's death not as a tragic end but as a courageous act of defiance. The rich colors and textures of the fabric and skin demonstrate to a great extent the sensuality and tragedy of her character.

The chiaroscuro, a great contrast of light and dark, elicits Cleopatra's vulnerable state and stresses just how much the scene is intense. Her face almost seems to be a fusion between the emotions of resignation and anguish. It is the severe psychology of the last moment in her life that Cagnacci seized, the emotional status more than the simple fact of dying.

The U.S. Has Rights Over the Panama Canal

Marco Rubio is right. The Neutrality Treaty authorizes America to enforce a prohibition against ‘foreign operation.’

In his inauguration speech, President Trump accused Panama of violating the terms under which the U.S. handed over the Panama Canal. “We’re taking it back,” he declared. Secretary of State Marco Rubio, during a visit to Panama this week, told President José Raúl Mulino that “absent immediate changes,” the U.S. will “take measures necessary to protect its rights” in the canal. The U.S. has a serious legal basis on which to contest—including by military intervention—what it regards as impermissible foreign influence in the canal.

President Jimmy Carter signed two treaties with Panama in 1977: One provided for the gradual transfer of the strategic waterway from the U.S. to Panama by 1999, and the other established a permanent “regime of neutrality” over the canal.

The regime of neutrality mandates equal access for all nations to peaceful transit, “just, equitable and reasonable” tolls and fees, exclusive Panamanian operation of the canal, and no foreign military or defense presence in the country. American shippers have objected to the canal’s toll system, but because it applies to all countries equally, it’s hard to see it as a treaty violation.

But Messrs. Trump and Rubio are correct that there may be other violations of the neutrality regime. As Assistant Secretary of State Douglas J. Bennet Jr. testified during Senate ratification hearings in 1977, the treaty prohibits not only “the garrisoning of foreign troops” but also “foreign operation of the canal.”

A Hong Kong-based company currently operates ports on both sides of the canal. In 1997, when the company first won contracts to manage the ports, Hong Kong was still a British territory. A few months later the U.K. handed Hong Kong over to China, and two years after that the U.S. handed the canal over to Panama. In the ensuing decades, China has cemented its control over Hong Kong far beyond what was contemplated in its agreement with the U.K., eventually imposing a rigid “national security” law in 2020.

In a communist regime, distinctions between private and government-owned firms are matters of degree, not kind. China has an official strategy known as “military-civilian fusion,” aimed at integrating the country’s military and civilian sectors to advance the Chinese army. The country’s Belt and Road Initiative is a sprawling policy to strengthen its strategic influence overseas. Panama is an official signatory of the initiative, allowing China increased investment and influence.

There’s a parallel here: The Suez Canal Co., which built and operated the Egypt-controlled Suez Canal, was a private firm. But because the company’s shareholders were largely British and French, the canal was understood to be under de facto Anglo-French control. This is why Egypt’s nationalization of the company in 1956 spurred military action by Israel, Britain and France. Similarly, the Panama Canal’s facilities are under the control of companies that are subordinate to a rival authoritarian regime.

There may also be violations of the treaty’s prohibition on foreign troops or military infrastructure in the canal. This prohibition applies to naked violations like a People’s Liberation Army garrison, and to “informal forces,” as Dean Rusk, who served as secretary of state under John F. Kennedy and Lyndon B. Johnson, explained in ratification hearings. Belligerent powers often seek to evade international legal limitations by disguising their actions in civilian clothes. Mr. Trump must determine if China’s civilian presence around the canal includes covert Chinese intelligence agents or security forces.

The U.S. need not wait until canal operations are disrupted, or China unfurls the five-star red flag, to intervene. A 1977 joint statement from Carter and Panama’s Brig. Gen. Omar Torrijos made clear that Washington can “defend the Canal against any threat to the regime of neutrality.” Treaties don’t interpret themselves, and under this treaty each county decides for itself whether a violation has occurred. The Senate made clear that each party may take “unilateral action.”

The treaty also authorizes the use of military force. That said, the Carter-Torrijos joint statement specifies that any use of force may not be directed at the “territorial integrity or political independence of Panama.” Military force can be used only to remove the threat to neutrality; it may not permanently retake the Canal Zone.

When Panama received the canal, it agreed to the condition that the U.S. would have considerable discretion to intervene over perceived threats to the neutrality of the waterway. Panama also knew that Carter wouldn’t always be the president. The U.S. has the right to use military force, but Mr. Trump shouldn’t resort to this option lightly.

Under diplomatic pressure from Messrs. Trump and Rubio, Mr. Mulino promised on Sunday not to renew Panama’s Belt and Road agreement with China and “study the possibility of terminating it early.” While this falls far short of addressing the Trump administration’s concerns, it may be an early sign that Panama will also be open to ending its contracts with the Chinese companies operating around the canal.

What is Cassette Beasts?

Cassette Beasts is a monster taming/creature collecting game developed by Bytten Studio. You play as the Player (who obviously can be named), who washes up on the shore of an island called New Wirral, which is located in a different dimension. There's only one issue: there is no way home. People from all different worlds and times end up in New Wirral and no one knows why. Another interesting thing is that New Wirral is inhabited by all kinds of monsters, but luckily, humans have found a way to beat them. These monsters are recordable and you can copy them to cassette tapes. Humans then use these cassette tapes to turn into a copy of those monsters, allowing humans to fight wild monsters and battle other humans.

The Player has to adjust to life on New Wirral, but is certain that there must be a way home. Together with their new friend Kayleigh, they go to investigate and learn that there are bosses called Archangels, and defeating them might lead to a way home. During your journey, you meet a lot of different Partner characters with their own storylines, and you are able to explore the open world of New Wirral.

What makes this game so different from others in the genre?

I'm going to be upfront: I don't have a lot of experience with creature collection/monster taming games. I have only played Pokémon, Ooblets, and also Persona. For Persona the creature collection is only a part of a bigger game, and in Ooblets you dance battle against the creatures in order to grow them in your garden. So yeah, I can only compare it to those.

I think the thing that immediately cements this as something different from Pokémon is that this game focuses a lot on the bond between humans, not between humans and monsters. That's not to say that you cannot get attached to your tapes (I did), but YOU turn into the monsters. As a result, monsters don't have their own levels, they instead take on the Player's level. This, to me, was game changing! This means that basically every tape is useful, no matter when you recorded it. Oh, you recorded a level 01 Traffikrab in the beginning of the game? Well, if you're level 80 at the end of the game and use that tape, you bet your ass Traffikrab is level 80 as well. This also makes it more exciting to actually record all the beasts in this game (which I did, I finished yesterday!)

BY THE WAY, did you know that once you're in the process of recording a monster, it cannot be killed! Gone are the fears of accidentally killing the monster you want to catch! Recording in general is more advanced than just throwing a tape at them and hoping for the best. There's strategy to it. You'll see. You will want to catch 'em all.

Which leads me to the second cool part: remastering. When your tape reaches 5 starts, it can be remastered (aka evolved) into a better tape. Not all tapes can be remastered, but some beasts can only be found through remastering! Not only that, but some tapes have branching paths as well, where a tape remasters into a certain monster depending on the time, moveset or an answer to a question.

And that leads me to another core feature of Cassette Beasts: fusions. Every monster has the ability to fuse with another monster. The devs say that this means that there are around 14.400 fusions available in this game, and that's not even accurate, because this number doesn't include the new monsters added in v1.2, v1.5 and the DLC! And the number is even higher if you take into account that EVERY SINGLE MONSTER has the ability to be a bootleg. A bootleg is basically a shiny, so it has a different colour scheme, but it also impacts the typing of the monster and they have a chance of getting better moves. There are 14 types (more on that later), which means that technically every monster can have 14 variants, which lead to differently typed fusions as well. Bro. What the FUCK.

Fusing monsters makes you more powerful, but it also means you only get one chance to act per move, instead of two. Fused monsters merge their stats and movesets, and they generate more AP per turn. AP is the amount of points you need to use a move, like of like PP in Pokémon.

AP? Moves? Moves take the forms of stickers that you put on your tapes. You can peel and replace those stickers whenever you want. Not all stickers are compatible with all monsters, though, and the more stars your tape has, the more sticker slots it has. Yup, your movesets are customisable. Neat.

And remember those 14 types? They are: water, earth, fire, air, beast, astral, ice, lightning, metal, plant, plastic, poison, glass and glitter. Yes, they're neat. Instead of having classic type advantages and disadvantages, types are all about buffs and debuffs. These are based on reality. For example, a fire type attacking an air type creates an updraft, buffing the air type. An ice type attacking a water type turns the water type into another ice type by freezing it. A lightning type attacking a metal type makes the latter conductive and vulnerable to extra damage from electricity. A poison type disturbs an astral type by attacking it, turning the astral type beserk. And so on, and so on. You can take advantage of this by also changing your types in battle with certain moves, but the enemy can also force you to change types. It's a whole thing, man.

This game is also made for people who love the genre. Once you finish the main game, there's a big post-game, but also an option to create a new custom save file with a permadeath mode (like a nuzzlock), or with randomised monsters or randomised types or randomised moves. It's a reason people come back to it.

Wow. Okay. That's a lot.

It is. Luckily, you can reread all tutorials in game in your Ranger Handbook. It even has a type chart! And there's the official wiki with a lot of information (and a lot of mathematical formulas).

But yeah, this game is massive, not only gameplay wise, but also storyline wise. You have the main story of getting off the island, but as I said, all playable NPCs (Partners) have their own storyline too (like fighting landlords or finding a lost brother). Then there's a "gym leader" type of storyline, where you take on Captains who are spread around the overworld, and there are a lot of side quests and rumours to follow up on.

And this is all in a decently sized open world. You do need to unlock overworld abilities that make exploration much easier, and the game has to load in the rest of the world at times. But yeah there are NPC battles and caves to be explored and chests to be opened. There are overworld puzzles to figure out! It IS a lot.

Where can I play this?

Cassette Beasts is available on PC and Xbox Game Pass, Xbox Series X/S, Xbox One, and Nintendo Switch. The wiki says it's also coming to mobile, but be honest with me, why would anyone buy a non-mobile game on mobile, especially something as extensive as this? Nah.

Can we play together?

Yup! I think it's cross-platform, but don't quote me on that. I haven't played multiplayer yet, so I cannot talk about it, but I know there are some exclusive features there. I think.

Is there DLC?

Yup, the Pier of the Unknown DLC adds a new area to explore, a new quest, new bosses, new monsters (so in turn also new fusions). I thought it was just fine. It adds some lore and all that, but it's just fine. I don't think I would've missed it if I hadn't bought it on sale. I recommend it if it's on sale.

Are there German characters in Cassette Beasts?

Given the fact that the inhabitants of New Wirral can come from all over the universe, it's possible there is someone from Germany residing on the island. But no, none of the playable NPCs or supporting cast is German.

The stakes are frighteningly high.

You know what, y'all are getting this essay now.

Metroid Fusion is a game about being transgender and being haunted by the idea of who you could have been/who you were, and Metroid Dread is about abusive and neglectful family and being prosecuted for factors outside of one's control.

This will have spoilers for Metroid Fusion and Metroid Dread.

In the intro to Fusion, Samus Aran is working with a part of the galactic government, as a sort of freelancer. While on a mission, she is attacked by an amorphous alien lifeform which suddenly disappears after invading her suit. Later, while in transit, she suddenly loses motor functions and crashes her ship into an asteroid.

The lifeform, known as an X, had fused to her body, slowly killing her and destroying her from within. It was so deeply connected to her at that point that the doctors and scientists trying to save Samus were at a loss. They had removed parts of her suit hoping to quarantine the X and reverse the process, but it was deep in her central nervous system at this point.

As Samus' narration puts it:

By taking a sample of Metroid DNA and splicing it with Samus', her body was able to adapt and absorb the X. This was only possible because the X are describes as being of "nearly pure energy", and Metroid being creatures that absorb energy, are one of their only predators.

Now, what does that have to do with an allegory for being trans? Well.

Being Part Metroid is not a reversible process. And it's not without its problems. Metroids are naturally vulnerable to cold, and while Samus used to be able to handle at least close to arctic temperatures without her Varia Suit, she is now barely able to even handle research facilities in said areas. On top of that, her suit is now more deeply connected to her than it ever has been before. It saved her, kept her alive while the X tried to ravage her body, but now it is an inescapable part of her.

But, she had been given the ability to consume X parasites. Her body was now, in part, Metroid in nature. She had won against the X that sought to kill her.

This is the image that really cements it in my brain. Samus has become a different person. She was reborn as a hybrid of Human, Chozo, and Metroid. Samus, for her part, accepts this pretty quickly, even reflecting that her life up to this point was leading up to this. The Metroid DNA that saved her came from the infant Metroid that saved her way back in Super Metroid, after all.

(I could go into how the change has caused her suit to become softer, and slightly weaker, and how much of the outer plating of her suit has been lost, and how that plays into the theme of transition, but that feels a bit more tenuous of a connection.)

Now, let's move to the antagonist of Fusion.

Samus' old suit, the parts removed by the scientists to get to her, was quarantined on a space station. However, the X inside began to replicate Samus herself, until they had become a copy of her at the peak of her power, but devoid of any humanity. A killing machine.

This is referred to as SA-X.

(that reveal scene gave me nightmares as a kid)

Throughout Fusion, you're attempting to basically get Samus back to the level of power that she had, in order to contend with and defeat the SA-X. A lot of other things happen in this game, including the personhood of Adam(who needs his own essay tbh). But, the crux of the conflict is between the SA-X, who is imitating a previous version of Samus, and Samus herself, who is desperately trying to become the person she once was, again.

The final boss of Fusion is a Metroid, not any X imitation. Despite the conflict between them, the SA-X attempts to fight this Metroid, it's natural predator, but fails. With the SA-X's death, Samus reclaims some of power that she lost, by consuming what was left of it. But, she doesn't just become the person that she was. She is permanently changed, permanently A Metroid by any standards. There is no going back.

She has taken the remnants of who she was, accepted them, and become something new, something greater.

Then, we come to Metroid Dread. In it, Samus is tasked with figuring out if the reports of X existing on a planet. A series of robots were sent to take samples and figure out if this information was true, the Extraplanetary Multiform Mobile Identifier, or E.M.M.I. units. Of course, all of them disappeared shortly after reaching the planet, and couldn't be reached. So, they sent Samus, whose unique biology made her the only living thing in the galaxy capable of surviving an attack from the X.

Samus is, in this game, the last Metroid in existence.

In the end, it is revealed that the EMMI units were taken over and controlled by a Chozo called Raven Beak. This Chozo was one of the several who gave their DNA to Samus, and he calls her Daughter throughout the ending sequence of the game.

Raven Beak's goal is to take the Metroid DNA from Samus to create a new form of bioweapon using it. Which is, for those familiar to the series, the same thing that the government has done, like, three times. Hell, it happens in Fusion, too. (The Metroids in that portion aren't even hostile to Samus, as they recognize her as one of their own.) Raven Beak was also the cause of a major schism within the Chozo, between those who wanted to exist in harmony with the universe, and those who saw it as theirs by right of their power.

Despite calling her "daughter", Raven Beak sees Samus as a tool. A source of power that he has every right to harvest. He manipulates her and pushes her to near-death to bring out her Metroid instincts, which are to Consume and Kill. He helps her become stronger, but only to make her a more complete Metroid. In his mind, her destiny is to pave the path for his dominion and control over the galaxy.

Despite never being there for her, Raven expects Samus to give her life so that he can become all-powerful. He calls it "her destiny". The process that saved her from the X in Fusion ultimately endangered her, and it is only through accepting her nature as a Metroid that she is able to survive and triumph.

Because she was a Metroid, a change that she did not choose to make but that was needed for her to survive, she became a target for Raven Beak. She was hunted by the EMMIs for her DNA, and became a monster to survive.

(it did give us the Coolest suit Samus has ever had, but still. Traumatizing for her)

In the end, Samus is of course not sacrificed upon the altar of Raven Beak's power. She escapes, and narrowly so, thanks to another Chozo who had been taken over by the X but retained his lucidity, named Quiet Robe. By willingly giving himself to Samus, she is able to regain a more normal form, but it is clear that the events of Dread have changed Samus irrevocably.

The Beta Kindergarten is established mid-way through the Rebellion in haste to create more troops; Jasper is created among these troops

Bismuth presents Rose with the Breaking Point, a weapon designed to shatter Gems, specifically the Diamonds. Disagreeing, Rose poofed and bubbled Bismuth (upon Bill's suggestion), later storing her in Lion's pocket dimension

Pearl presents her worries about Bill to Rose; Rose attempts to contact Bill to set things straight but he refuses to answer her for unknown reasons; Realizing they're on their own, Rose and Pearl develop a last-ditch plan to save the earth

Pink Diamond and Pearl plan a ruse to stage Pink Diamond's shattering. Pearl, shapeshifted into Rose Quartz, "shatters" Pink Diamond by poofing her after she has swallowed fake gem shards

Though Yellow promises Blue that she'll send Dipper to the human zoo, she instead imprisons him with the intent of using him as a subject in her human bioweapon project

Steven and Mabel fuse into Maven, escaping from shattering robinoids alongside a group of Off-Colors; during their attempt to steal a ship to escape, they are confronted by Emerald; ultimately, the Off Colors and Maven escape Homeworld on separate ships (Wanted)

Season 4 - Early July

Steven and Mabel return to Earth without Dipper; the Pines and the Gems immediately begin plotting on how to get him back from Homeworld; angry with Steven for what just happened, Connie breaks up with him (Within Without)

After being interrogated on "Rose Quartz" by Yellow Diamond, Dipper's left arm is cut off by Squaridot and her fellow engineers, officially beginning the "process" as he is placed under Hessonite's watch and into Amber's care

Tensions continue to rise between Stan and Ford and the Gems as Greg brings everyone along on a brief vacation to help everyone reset; Mabel and Steven have a brief falling out (Gemcation)

The Gems and the Pines begin repairing the damaged ship Maven used to return to earth in the hopes of using it to rescue Dipper

Yellow Diamond attempts to condition Dipper into serving her, but her efforts are resisted, forcing her to more extreme measures; during this time, Dipper and Amber begin to bond

Kevin invites Stevonnie, Maven, and Stepper to his party, but only Steven, Mabel, and Connie go; Mabel briefly reunites with Gabe Bensen and harshly refutes his advances toward her; Steven and Connie reconcile and get back together (Kevin Party)

Dipper's attempts at escaping Homeworld are thwarted by Hessonite

Noticing Yellow's frustration with Dipper's resistance, Bill intervenes, offering his assistance; they are both confronted by White, who also wants a piece of this plan and advises Yellow to use the Diamond's Aria as a control method; she also strongarms Bill into assisting (by invading Dipper's dreams) by promising (spoiler)

Under these new intensive methods, Dipper slowly begins to break as his resistance falls apart

Allison and Aaron file for divorce back in Piedmont

Mabel takes over writing in Dipper's journal, hoping to use it to fill him in on all that he's missed while on Homeworld once they get him back (Rainbow-Colored Recap)

With Amber's assistance, Dipper records a farewell message for his friends and family back on Earth

Unable to resist any longer, Dipper succumbs to the conditioning forced upon him by Yellow Diamond and becomes "Stonemason"; he is outfitted with a shapeshifting metallic arm and is sent to hunt down "Rose Quartz" and capture or shatter her

Work on the repaired ship is finished and, unable to wait any longer, Steven, Mabel, and Connie sneak off on it to try and rescue Dipper on their own; the untested ship ends up crashing on an alien moon (Spaced Out)

While on the Jungle Moon, Steven and Connie are separated from Mabel; Stevonnie has dreams about Pink Diamond's past; Mabel is encountered by Stonemason, who briefly uses her as a hostage until she is rescued by Stevonnie; the kids narrowly manage to escape on their damaged ship, which barely makes it back to Earth  in one piece (Jungle Moon)

Work on the ship is forced to begin again as Steven, Connie, and Mabel all struggle to cope with the idea that they may never see Dipper again (Mindless Education)

Stonemason arrives on Earth and begins hunting "Rose"; he confronts the Pines and Gems, who initially believe him to be a Gem sent from Homeworld (The Assassin)

Mabonnven ends up unmasking Stonemason, revealing his true identity as Dipper; despite attempts to get through to him, Stonemason continues in his mission to capture/shatter Steven; the Gems and the Pines begin plotting how to free Dipper from Yellow Diamond's control (The Mask)

Season 5 - Mid July

Stonemason continues attacking the Pines and the Gems; Steven and Pacifica (spoilers) (Deep Cut)

After several more encounters with the Pines and the Gems, Stonemason begins to doubt his mission and questions his identity; those questions are quelled when Yellow uses the Diamond's Aria to condition him again (Lullaby)

Yellow Diamond commands Stonemason to attack Gravity Falls in order to lure "Rose" out; he does so, damaging much of the town and harming several civilians (Crash and Burn)

Maven goes off alone to search for Stonemason; upon finding him, they manage to briefly break through to Dipper, only for Stonemason to forcefully suppress him once more (Forever Together)

The Pines and the Gems receive Dipper's supposedly final message to them and are inspired to continue looking for a way to save him (A Final Farewell)

Steven goes into Stonemason's mindscape and finds Dipper, trapped and slowly fading away altogether; while in the dreamscape, Steven is briefly encountered by Bill, who offers to set (spoilers) (Hide and Seek)

After several violent encounters, Stonemason is captured by the Gems and the Pines; Steven, Mabel, and Connie enter his mind in a last-ditch effort to return Dipper to normal (Find the Key)

The group is confronted by Stonemason, and a fight ensues, but just before they're defeated, Dipper breaks free and defeats Stonemason, finally reclaiming control over his mind and body (Break the Chain)

Season 6 - Mid - Late July

After returning to his sound mind, Dipper struggles to recover physically and mentally from what happened to him on Homeworld (Yes, My Diamond)

Dipper is met with resistance and anger when trying to reintegrate himself into Gravity Falls as a result of the destruction Stonemason caused; Gideon defends him and convinces (most) of the townsfolk to calm down; Dipper discovers Stonemason is still present inside of his mind, communicating with him frequently (The Golden Rule)

Dipper and Pacifica reconnect following Dipper's absence (Shelter from the Storm)

The Off Colors arrive on Earth and start to settle in the forest of Gravity Falls; Garnet tells the Off Colors the origins of Rose Quartz and the Rebellion (Your Mother and Mine)

Garnet has a brief crisis over her future vision missing significant events; she adopts a one-eyed kitten and names it "Cat Steven" (Pool Hopping)

Lapis leaves Earth once again and takes the Barn, not wanting to get caught in the middle of another war with the Diamonds; she nearly takes Dipper with her, but ultimately ends up leaving him behind, despite his pleas to escape from Yellow's range (Raising the Barn)

Dipper discovers and tames a dragowl, which he names Luna; Stan and Ford defend Dipper against Weidmann and several still-angry townsfolk; Steven, Mabel, Peridot, Amethyst, and Soos attempt to bring some life back to the Kingdergarten (How to Train Your Dragowl)

Hessonite and Squaridot on Earth, reclaiming the Light Prism while also reawakening Stonemason, forcing him back into obedience under her; Squaridot is poofed and bubbled; the Pines and Gems confront Hessonite and rescue the prism and Dipper, forcing Hessonite to retreat back to Homeworld (Save the Light)

The term behind Bill's deal with the Diamonds changes, as Yellow demands Stonemason is returned while White wants "Pink" back in person as opposed to merely her gem; increasingly desperate to reclaim his lost power, Bill agrees, planning (spoilers)

Steven turns 15; Bill return and strikes a deal with a guilt-ridden Steven to (spoilers) (Knock, Knock)

Season 7: Early - Mid August

Sometime during this period, Allison and Aaron's divorce is finalized

Driven to near madness, Weidmann launches a full-scale attack against the Pines and the Gems, who ultimately drive him out of town once and for all (The Hunter and the Hunted)

The kids discover Lapis has taken refuge on the moon; she refuses to return with them, further fleeing into space after Steven has another dream about Pink Diamond (Can't Go Back)

Steven goes inside Pearl to find her phone and discovers that Rose Quartz is Pink Diamond, which shocks Garnet and Amethyst, and the Pines (A Single Pale Rose)

Garnet unfuses and Sapphire becomes mad at Ruby, believing that Rose Quartz lied to them and leaves, upset; Dipper also leaves, outraged that all of the torture he was put through was essentially for nothing; Steven, Pearl, Stan, and Ford check on Sapphire and Pearl tells Steven and Sapphire the story of how Pink Diamond became Rose Quartz; she also reveals the original deal Rose/Pink made with Bill, making Steven wonder if Rose really was involved with Bill romantically after all (Now We're Only Falling Apart)

Upset by the uselessness of their shared suffering, Dipper and Stonemason reach an agreement that they will work in conjunction with one another towards the eventual goal of shattering Yellow Diamond as revenge (Reconnect the Chain)

The kids find Ruby, who eventually returns and proposes to Sapphire (The Question)

The Pines and the Gems begin preparing for Ruby and Sapphire's wedding; Steven asks Bismuth to be the maid of honor, officially reintegrating her back into the Crystal Gems and (spoilers) (Made of Honor)

Ruby and Sapphire marry and re-fuse into Garnet; Yellow and Blue arrive on Earth and attempt to unleash the Cluster, which partially emerges and fights back against them; the Pines and the Gems confront Yellow and Blue; Lapis returns to Earth and joins the fight; Steven reveals that Rose was Pink Diamond to them (Reunited)

Steven implores Blue and Yellow to heal the corrupted Gems, which they can't do without White; the gang uncovers Pink's leg ship in the desert and the Pines and the Gems travel to Homeworld alongside the Diamonds; White "welcomes" Steven to Homeworld (Legs from Here to Homeworld)

While Steven tries to reach out to the Diamonds for their help, Dipper (and Stonemason) reel from flashbacks from his time on Homeworld; Dipper reunites with Amber as he and Stonemason continue plotting against Yellow (Familiar)

Steven throws a ball for the Diamonds, which celebrates the start of Era 3; upset that White didn't attend in person, the kids fuse into Stonipbel, enraging Blue and Yellow, who poof the Crystal Gems and imprison Stonipbel in Pink's old tower; Steven uses a watermelon Steven to contact Bismuth, Lapis, and Peridot for help, meanwhile Dipper escapes the tower, claiming to go get help from Stan and Ford (Together Alone)

Dipper and Stonemason confront Yellow, who tries to get them back under her control, though the song doesn't work this time; they fight her, attempting to shatter her as revenge for what she did to them; meanwhile, Steven, Connie, Mabel, Stan and Ford persuade Blue to release them; while Blue and Yellow get into a fight over Steven, Steven and Dipper fight over his revenge plan; ultimately, Steven convinces Dipper to give it up while Blue convinces Yellow to help the Gems and the Pines; Bismuth, Lapis, and Peridot arrive to help, but White takes control of all of the Diamond's ships, as well as Blue and Yellow, refusing to listen to reason (Battle of Heart and Mind)

Steven fuses with Pearl to form Rainbow Quartz 2.0, he also fuses with Garnet to form Sunstone, and with all three of the Gems to form Obsidian as everyone attacks the Diamond's ships; the Gems and the kids enter White's ship, but the Gems are taken over by White as is (spoiler); White removes Steven's gemstone (which Bill is present to watch), but instead of reforming as Rose or Pink, it reforms into a pink version of Steven; Steven reunites with his gem half and confronts White, forcing her to realize her own imperfections for the first time (Change Your Mind)

Season 8 - Late August

The Gems and the Pines return to Earth with the Diamonds, who begin healing the corrupted Gems (including Jasper); the Gem empire begins to dismantle, allowing Gemkind to live freely; plans for a "Little Homeworld" on Earth new Gravity Falls get underway (A New Era)

Allison and Aaron both arrive in Gravity Falls, discovering everything Dipper and Mabel have been through and revealing their divorce to the younger twins; though they attempt to separate them and take them back home, they're met with swift resistance from Stan, Ford, and the Gems; as a result, the Pines parents are forced to stay in Gravity Falls longer than anticipated (Meet the Pines)

The Gems recruit Dipper and Mabel to join them against Steven in a round of "Steven Tag" (Snow Day)

Winter 2016

The kids are cursed to share each other's pain after finding an ancient artifact in the woods; they reach out to Blue Diamond for help but ultimately have to work out issues with each other to break the curse (Sharing is Caring)

A graduation ceremony is held for Gems in Little Homeworld, though Steven soon realizes that his friends may be starting to move on without him, kickstarting (spoilers) (Little Graduation)

Spring 2016

Mabel is offered an internship at a prestigious art program in New York, which she accepts upon encouragement from Dipper; Steven, however, is upset when he realizes their group will be torn apart (Artistically Challenged)

Steven takes up gardening, accidentally bringing a cactus to life that he vents his frustrations to; after the cactus turns into monster, the Gems confront it, but it is ultimately allowed to leave as Steven apologizes to it (Prickly Pair)

Steven's nightmares have him fearing that Bill isn't really gone; Dipper and Ford take it upon themselves to convince him that he's truly gone, but they have to confront Rose's past with Bill in the process (Equilateral)

The kids go roller skating with Bismuth and Pearl; Stevonnie wins a skating contest after Steven awkwardly meets Connie's other friends; Dipper and Pacifica plan to travel together during the summer (Bismuth Casual)

After learning Connie will also be leaving for the summer to tour colleges, Steven's (spoilers) , it's discovered by Stonemason, who agrees to keep it a secret from the others (Upheaval)

Desperate to keep his friends together, Steven tries to convince Connie, Dipper, and Mabel to stay in Gravity Falls with him:

Using the events of RMD as a jumping off point, Steven attempts to guilt trip Dipper into fusing with him, only to result in a falling out between the two (Never Alone)

Steven confesses he does have feelings for Mabel after all, but, upset by how late he is about it, she rebuffs him (Never Forever)

Steven tries to propose to Connie so they can stay together as Stevonnie forever, but she gently turns him down (Never Alone)

As Steven's powers and his corruption worsens, he visits Dr. Maheswaran, who helps him confront the trauma he went through when he was younger; Connie convinces Dipper and Mabel to make amends with Steven, but things are still not entirely repaired between them (Growing Pains)

Greg takes Steven on a road trip, where he learns more about his father's side of the family; upon learning that his father and mother have too much in common, Steven angrily destroys Greg's van (Mr. Universe)

Little Intro

I plan on being very active on this blog so I think it's only fit that I give some background details, especially since I wish to interact with you all.

Im 28/M and yes this blog is very old but I wish to repurpose it for my love of the Metroid series. I have not been on Tumblr in a long, long time and have a laughable understanding of how this place works. All I know is that I love the series, Samus, and wish to have a place to centralize my passion. Other social media sites have proven to not be very good for that.

I first found out about Samus when I was very young in elementary school and would go over to my buddy's house to play Super Smash Bros with our gang of friends. We all has N64's but his house was where we had our weekend tournaments. I always played as Samus because I was always a mecha fan, played a lot of Halo: Combat Evolved on my computer at home, and Sci-fi armor was my thing from a very young age. I loved her power armor, and I was highly interested in the fact Samus was a girl. I was actually baffled when I found out Samus was a girl. It didn't make sense to me, all I knew is that she was amazing. I was pretty much in love, of course I wouldn't admit it to my friends.

I would watch videos of Metroid games on YouTube until I finally got my first Metroid game, Metroid Fusion. I loved it so much. I would spend hours on my GameBoy Advance just running around, not fully understanding how Metroidvania games really worked. I even played it a lot when i finally got an Advance SP. The game cemented my love for the Metroid series and Samus Aran. Even when we would play Super Smash Bros. Brawl, I was always sure to pick Samus.

Now we are years later and awaiting the release of Metroid Prime 4 Beyond. I spend my time playing Metroid Dread and Metroid Prime Remastered (PLEASE let them remaster 2 and 3!!!). I plan on posting a variety of content here. Artwork, in-game content, short stories, pics of my memorabilia, and whatever i can think of.

I know this is a smaller community in general, but I emplore you to join me for the ride. Feel free to contact me, I am always open to discussion.

Conan of the Periphery: A BattleTech/Pulp Fusion World/Storybuilding Project

Well, y'all voted for this, so here it goes.

For reasons I don't quite understand, we mostly ended up discussing King Conan, and realized that we can't quite make the Canon version work, since there's no way for Conan to end up running a Successor State. So we decided on him making a new state in the Periphery. Which led to someone suggesting:

I'd suggest Star's End over the Marians anyways, because you have something that really matters (a JumpShip yard), and an environment that plays to the strengths of a Conan-style character; not so much civilized, but personal prowess is very important fighting across a thousand tiny fields of battle. Plus you get to have Susie Morgaine-Ryan draping herself across Conan's lap during the invasion, and she's absolutely a Conan character with her combination of vamping and stabbity.

So, this image, of Conan fighting the Clans with Susie Morgraine-Ryan draped across his lap became a centerpiece, and from there we decided on Aquilonia being formed from some combo of Star's End, the Barony of Strang, the Oberon Confederation, and and least some of the Chainelane Isles.

What we settled on is that Conan leaves Cimmeria, a marginal planet in the Periphery and begins a career as a wandering MechWarrior in the Inner Sphere in the 2950s, earning substantial fame and renown, etc. before settling down after semi-inadvertently carving out a kingdom for himself in the Coreward Periphery in the 2980s.

When the Third Succession War officially ends in 3025, he decides to retire, abdicating the throne in favor of his son Conan II (henceforth, Conn) and going exploring. Subsequently, Conn very much gives the FedCom a kick in the teeth after they decided Aquilonia becoming a bit to strong for their comfort. Nothing to major just a small raid that goes very wrong and the peace talks after have Conn cement themselves as a grand Statemen and a Ruler of the nation that demands as much respect as the other Major periphery nations do.

Meanwhile, Conan gets stuck in the California nebula and encounters something that slows, stops, or reverses his aging, and then somehow manages to contrive to escape with a Royal SLDF 'Mech that's been tricked out with weird CalNeb tech, and shows up just as the Clan Invasion gets started.

Aaand that's where we hit a wall.

So, ideally, I'd like to do two things:

-Backfill Conan's history.

-Figure out how the history of the Inner Sphere unfolds differently from the Clan Invasion onwards.

Wings in Metal Fight Beyblade.

Wings have a special significance in the series as they are heavily tied to the main character, Gingka Hagane. They can symbolize numerous things such as spirituality, freedom, victory, and are often associated with the divine. These elements tie very well with Gingka and his Pegasus. In the series, wings are the main assets of Pegasus (a winged horse) and are primarily associated with him and his master. As a result, Pegasus's Bey's wings are "represented" by the fusion wheel, and we see with every new Bey Gingka obtains that this part emulates wings more and more.

We can also observe this with Gingka himself, as his scarf resembles white wings—something he shares with his father—as well as with Kai Hiwatari from the original series. These elements helped cement an almost divine or angelic aspect of Gingka and Ryusei, whose opponents mostly consist of malevolent individuals who use or collaborate with dark forces or are symbolically tied to hell. This creates a clear distinction between the villainous faction and Gingka's group. Notably, Kyoya's name, Tategami, directly translates to "divine shield," and he is Gingka's closest rival and one of his most loyal ally.

Another character close to the protagonist group worth mentioning here is Tsubasa. He uses Earth Eagle, whose fusion wheel is also reminiscent of wings. One of his special moves is even called Metal Wing Smash. Additionally, his first name translates to "Wing." Like Gingka, Ryusei, and even Kyoya, Tsubasa had the goal of defeating Ryuga. Tsubasa managed to overcome the dark power and experience something of a metaphorical rebirth, much like Ryusei (who almost died and escaped Daidoji's dark domain) and Gingka (who broke free of Hades's Gate).

If you look closely at Gravity Perseus's spirit, you will notice that he is wearing winged sandals. In mythology, these were given to him by the god Hermes, also known as Mercury. Perseus is a hero but also a demigod who received the favor of the gods, and he even rode Pegasus to save Andromeda. It is easy to link the myth to Julian (Perseus's Blader), as you could say he was himself "favored by the gods." He was born into a wealthy family and is talented in every field, including Beyblade. Gravity Perseus is also a gifted Beyblade since not only does it have a mode change, but it can spin in both directions.

Returning to Mercury, it is interesting to note that Yuki's hairstyle is not only reminiscent of the ears of a dog (which ties to his Beyblade, Anubis, the god with a canine head) but also of wings. In fact, it is quite similar to the hairstyle of Sho Tenma, the protagonist of Beywheelz, who uses the Pegasus avatar. This can also be observed with Sora, an other Pegasus user. This is fitting, considering Yuki is a Legendary Blader who joined the main cast and became a close friend to Gingka, even battling by his side in the Tag-Team Tournament. Yuki's fellow Solar System Bladers, Tithi and Dynamis, are also worth mentioning: Quetzalcoatl is a serpent with wings, and Jupiter's avatar possesses a large pair of wings, making it almost angelic in appearance.

Damian Hart seems to share his hairstyle with Yuki, likely because both their Beyblades are based on mythological dog-like creatures. Similarly, Damian's hairstyle resembles wings—not only that, but they are sky blue, which is close in color to Pegasus and, fittingly, the sky. Beyblade characters often have features that hint at what their Beyblades represent, such as Masamune. As a result, Damian could even pass as being a Pegasus owner. Additionally, the first time the Hades Gates are used, there is a close-up on the front depicting the three heads of Cerberus with a pair of wings.

Overall, this imagery for Damian is fitting since he sees himself as "the chosen one," a main protagonist of sorts, in direct opposition to the true main character, Gingka. There is also the theme of evil trying to masquerade as righteous by using more divine or heroic symbolism. This is crystallized in a quote Damian said in the original Japanese dub:

Damian: "In other words, I've been chosen by God himself to do this [play Beyblade]." Gingka: "How's that?" Damian: "Oh, sorry… More like by the Devil himself."

Likewise, the very first spirit that Nemesis manifests after evolving is Pegasus, and when it created its "ultimate" beast, it retained its wings.

“Clark? Honey?” You call out to your husband who, seemed lost to the rest of the world as his eyes sought the words to whatever paperwork he was reading. Noting down the uncanny disarray of his home office, the strange feeling of unrest settled in the pit of your stomach once more.

There were piles of papers scattered aimlessly on his mahoganny desk, his recieving chairs were skewed at an angle you knew he'd find unsettling, and his coat aswell as a few trinkets were laying waste on the carpet altogether.

It was unlike Clark to let himself spiral into a such a state of disorder. If you knew anything, about your endearing husband; he had a severe case of OCD. Everything must have their own place, every nook and cranny accounted for and it reflected on his everyday life. His tailor made suits were always neatly pressed, his tie the perfect knot, his appearance was always put together and smart in fashion. There was nothing that could be flawed about Clark Kent; he was composed, as he was equally accomplished in his everyday life

But for the past few days, perhaps weeks now, you've noticed the nuances and shift in his demeanor. It was present in gaze, the way he spoke to you; as if he was evasive, guilty almost, but you didn't want to venture into that kind of thinking because your heart had hurt too much at the thought of one of your mates betraying you in such manner.

Clark and Steve would never hurt you in any way. The fact in itself was cemented into your very soul, because all throughout your three years of togetherness— two in marriage, they've bonded you to them in any way they could. Through the marks. Through paper. And most importantly; with their love and devotion.

For as long as you could remember, they have tirelessly and endlessly wooed you. There was not a single day that passed that you never felt special, what with their promise to court you and love you forever. And you've never doubted your husband, and you won't start to. Not when they have never given you any reason to.

“Honey?” You knocked on his door in order to get his attention, that seemingly effective, as he raised his head to look towards you.

“Sweetheart?” Clark was startled he failed to hear you or sense your presence, until you were all he could pay attention to. Your scent, the most beautiful fusion of pumpkin and vanilla, calmed his racing thoughts. His eyes raked over your form in a slow descent, admiration clear in his eyes, but his brows furrowed perceptively at your lack of footwear. “The floor is cold, come here.” He beckons with a slight reprimand to his tone.

Slowly, you walked towards him, rubbing your eyes to rid of any residual sleep. Within arms length, he pulled you down to his lap, arms instinctively wrapping around your smaller frame and pulling you to his chest. Nuzzling into his neck, you let out a satisfied chirp as you were flooded with the enticing scent of your alpha.

“I woke up and you were gone,” You murmur against his neck, voice tinged with sadness. Perhaps you had been spoiled with too much affection that you had become increasingly reliant on their presence— Now, due to the nature of their work and constant travelling, both Clark and Steve had made it so, one or the other if not both should always be with you. This notion was followed to a T which satisfied all parties involved, so you were quite sensitive when it wasn't.

“I know, i'm sorry sweetheart.” Clark coaxed you gently, his voice no louder than a whisper that tickled your ears. “I had a few paperworks that i final review before i sign on it,”

“Can i stay with you?” You bit your lower lip anxiously and stared at him through your lashes. “I'll behave. I just really missed you.” your voice was soft and pliant as you pleaded.

Clark felt the lump in his throat again. The feelings he was repressing all coming down in a defeaning crash onto him. He was confronted with the fact of his neglect towards you with the days past. Clark knows that you may be growing suspicious, and for good reason, yet not one he was strong enough to admit yet. He wanted to say it. To blurt it out, but to admit it out loud would shatter all of his formerly built pretense. Instead, he hugged you tighter, hopefully translating all his love and affection towards it.

“I love you so much, tesoro.” He utters with conviction, “More than my own life.” you felt his head dip, and your foreheads touch. You were suddenly awashed with various emotions, and you swallowed down the questions you wanted to ask.

Although the confession was abrupt, it didn't stop you from echoing the sentiment. “I love you more.” you whisper. “more than my own life.” you repeated.

His grip on you tightened, if possible. As if he was holding onto you for dear life, to which you tried to ease him with gentle touches and tender caress all over his body. You pressed butterfly kisses all over the side of his face, whispering words of assurance to your husband.

“Everything will be alright, my love.”

Clark desperately wanted it to be true.

The next morning, you woke up alone. There was no sign of Clark, as you approached the first floor after showering and getting dressed. Only the staff were present bustling around to do their respective duties.

“When did Clark leave?” You asked the housekeeper.

“At around five, ma'am.” She answers, and you thanked her before heading towards the dining.

As you sat, you were immediately served with breakfast, but you lacked the appetite to even pick up your spoon. Just thinking about your husband's strange behavior had your mind in a talispin, listing out possibilities of what you could have done; was it something you had done? were they disappointed with you? what if they had finally had it with your inability to—

“Hey, doll face!” Natasha barged into the room, successfully interrupting your thoughts. “Mind if i have breakfast with you? Bucky's gone and i'm too lazy to cook for myself.” Before you could answer, she plopped down to a seat and was served with cutlery much like you were.

Her morning visits were as frequent as could be which is why the staff were always quick. More often than not, anyways, it was Natasha you had breakfast with, due to her living close by and her husband Bucky being Steve's bestfriend and work associate. Needless to say, Natasha frequented your estate, and you were as closest to a friend as you could be.

“Hey, doll face.” She tilts her head, “Call me a bitch, but i think you look evidently upset over something.”

“I'm fine, nat. And please, lay off with the crude vocabulary at such an early day.” you reply amusedly, trying to play it off.

“It's okay, i'm insured.” She whips out a few dollar bills and left it at the table, the action was almost like a second nature to her seeing as she was a regular patron at the curse jar. “But you, my dear, seem awfully upset over something. What is it? What is a problem, that your overbearing husbands can't fix? You know you just blink wrong and Rogers and Kent would break the bones of some unassuming bastard.” She wiggles her eyebrows inriguingly.

You couldn't help but shake your head, contemplating for a moment wether you should tell another soul; a close one to both you and your husband about what your sneaking suspicion.

What if she thought you were just paranoid? Or laugh in your face? Or instead—

“Hey,” Nat calls out to you softly. “You don't have to tell me, immedieately. Or at all. But i'm here, and available if you feel like sharing.” she assures you, sincerity dripping from her tone while you visibly deflate.

“It's gonna sound stupid.” you sigh. “b-but.. but i think they're hiding something.”

“who?” the confusion was geniune.

“Steve and Clark.” you utter once you find your voice again, reaching for the glass of water once you felt your mouth go dry at finally saying it out loud.

“Why do you think so?” she asks carefully.

“Maybe i'm sensitive..” trailing off you looked down at your lap, “but i, i just feel it, nat. The way they speak to me, neither of them can barely maintain proper eye contact for more than a minute. They're very brief, almost cryptic when they talk. They're always out, and we barely see eachother— it terrifies me.” blinking away the tears, you look up.

“Oh darling,” She hushes, pulling you into a hug while you choked on a sob.

“I'm so scared Nat.” you whimper, tucking your chin into her shoulder. “'m so scared i'm gonna lose my alphas.”

“I know for certain that's never going to happen, dollface.” natasha says earnestly, while you let the tears flow.
