now that I've been running this blog for nearly a year and it's starting to wind down, I think I can have little a self promotion as a treat
first, this blog will most likely start back up again if tumblr is still around whenever the next AC game comes out. what tournaments I run and how I run them will depend on what new stuff is added, but I at the very least want to do the new villagers, since the villager tournament was really the main thing of this blog
@isitinacnh was a blog I ran that compared the furniture catalogue from NL with NH to see how many items were cut or changed, but in the new year I think I'll repurpose it to show how items have evolved through all the games. don't expect to see new posts coming out of it for a good while though, because the most efficient way for me to make the posts would frontload it with all the interesting stuff, so I want to get a pretty big backlog started so I can shuffle the queue up before it starts posting. I have all the images downloaded to my computer already, I just need to post them
@villagerdetails gave in depth looks at all the villager models and expressions, mostly for the purpose of art refs. again if tumblr is still here when the next AC game comes out, I'll start this back up with the new villagers if I am able to. there is a good chance this might need to wait for like new amiibos to get released or something idk we'll see
@angiestown and @angiestownart are my main and art blogs respectively. angiestownart is just my art, usually with some extra commentary that I didn't want attached to the main post. angiestown is a personal blog, but I post all my art and a lot of the cakes I decorate at work and other dessert things I make. I'm also hoping to maybe next year on my main blog design and post screenshots of every single house in happy home paradise, just like I did with happy home designer in 2019. seems like a good time to do it since nintendo appears to be winding down the switch and I doubt any games I care about will come out for a good while
also if you guys wanted to reblog this post specifically that would be very niceys sorry it is long lmao

08/10/2023
today i visited @azaleacnl's new leaf town through the dream suite! it was such an adorable and well made town so here is my review of my travels ! (sidenote i lost the notes i wrote while exploring the town so if its a little disjointed then that's why)
Tumblr media
immediately as i loaded into the town i could tell it was going to be amazing. the clovers by the bed and the cherry blossom trees created such an atmosphere already.
Tumblr media
i loved the bushes around the town tree, i thought that was a super nice touch.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
there were so many outdoor areas that i just loved. i really liked the use of items like the perfect apple basket to add more life to the outdoors. it's really cool to see what people do with the limited amount of stuff you can place outside in NL!! i also loved the trees with the carnations in the water, they looked like cherry blossom petals floating in the river!!
Tumblr media
the first character's house that i came across was meli's house! i LOVED the sweets exterior. i find that it can often be a bit out of place in some towns but i thought it fit super well here!
Tumblr media
I LOVE THE SWEETS SET. AAAAGHHH. one thing about the whole town is the use of certain smaller furniture items that just add so much more - for example, in this room, the black roses look like they're made of chocolate.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
i loved the cosy vibe of the back room with all the cabin furniture and using the large bookcase as a room partition works so well!! the pompompurin room was also super cute and furniture like the super star and the balloon fit really nicely!
Tumblr media
i genuinely audibly gasped when i saw this room and i am not even joking. the atmosphere is just PERFECT i think it's my favourite room in the whole town!! it feels so comfy and everything is exactly where it should be. i love it!!!!
Tumblr media
the next house i came to was cathy's ! i love the exterior, the fairy tale theme is so cute and matches nicely with the town hall and train station.
Tumblr media
i have VERY strong feelings about the lovely set (I LVOE IT ITSM Y FAVOURITE SET EVER) so trust i was a fan of this room !! i also really like the soft lighting that was in a lot of the rooms, when i was decorating my nl house recently i found that a lot of the lighting was wayyy too harsh for my liking so i like how it's done here!! i also noticed a lot of furniture items that i swear i have never seen before - it goes to show how much effort was clearly put into this whole town.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
i really love the distinct theming of every room - while they were all different, they still felt really cohesive. i also think the space is used very well, such as in the rococo room. in my own rococo room i've been really struggling to figure out how to use the space, but these rooms are all full but not crowded. i also love the use of cyrus such as in the regal furniture. i never really considered using regal furniture because i didn't like the yellow but here you can see how it's recoloured to pink which i feel makes it fit in a lot better with more sets.
i also love the use of mannequins in the rooms! it really makes it feel like a scene where there's actual characters and a story, like the character by the birdcage in the princess room!
Tumblr media
the next house was lina's!! i'm going to become very repetitive but once again i love the exterior. it's so impressive managing to make the very different exterior styles work so well in the same town.
Tumblr media
i have never been a fan of the gorgeous set. HOWEVER. seeing it like this (especially with this lighting) has certainly made it grow on me! i think the strong lighting also helps to unite the pieces by making them similar colours e.g. the handbag on the table - iirc it's pink and can't be recoloured, but in the lighting it looks more red which makes it fit in with the rest of the furniture.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
once again loved the use of mannequins in these rooms! i thought the minimalist beds in the spa was super smart. the atmosphere in the rooms is actually impeccable like the spa room seems so clean and cool. i LOVED the restaurant room!! i think it's so creative to use the rooms as like actual places rather than just rooms in a house. it adds more liveliness and story to the whole town i really love it!!
Tumblr media
the final house i came to was misa's!
Tumblr media Tumblr media
the interiors were always very unpredictable in the best way possible - i didn't expect to step into the house and be on a tropical island, but there i was! as much as i really liked the island, i was absolutely blown away by the basement room. it really felt like i was outside and had come across a magical fairy circle. i never really make use of wallpapers like the vistas and skies but this really showed me how well they can be used - the atmosphere was insane !!!
even though this house isn't 100% finished, i honestly liked that - it made me super excited to see what was to come!!!
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
after i looked at the player houses, i looked around the rest of the town. i feel like my thoughts were the same wherever i went - it was mostly 'OHHH MY GOD THAT IS SO CUTE. OHHHH MY GOD USING THAT FURNITURE IS GENIUS. I LOVE IT'. the pwps were used very well and i think they were really well placed - they were spread out enough that the town wasn't super crowded but there weren't super big empty spaces. i also found the town really easy to navigate, not only due to the placement of buildings but the paths were very clearly and purposefully placed! (they were also super cute i loved the patterns)
i thought the villager housing was nicely done with some of them being paired off together. also bonus points for the wisteria trellis (my fav pwp EVER)!!!!!
overall it was just a really lovely experience going and exploring around the town of azalea. if you would like to visit (which you SHOULD! there's a lot i didn't include here so you should go see the town for yourself!!) the DA is 7E00-00D5-AA0B !! you should also follow the towns blog which is @azaleacnl !!
eee thank you for reading please check out the town + blog !!

more little NL vs NH thoughts because I can't stop playing NL again and apparently can't shut up about it (it is so important to me okay?)
-villager dialogue is just so much better in NL. I've heard people complain about the villagers not being mean anymore in that game like in older ones, and I have little opinion on that, but whew can I ever see the downgrade between NL and NH. the regular dialogue is so bland, and there's fewer options for when they have something to ask you for. in NH, it's:
wanna come over/can I visit your house RIGHT NOW? I had a fight with [other villager], can you deliver this gift? I'm trying to sell stuff, will you buy this from me?/here's a random item (this always happens when I'm digging up clams and need empty pockets...) can you catch this bug/fish for me? (very rarely) want to play a treasure hunt game?
whereas with NL it's:
wanna come over/can I visit your house RIGHT NOW? wanna come over/can I visit your house later? can you take this gift to [other villager]? I'm trying to sell stuff, will you buy this/can I trade you for item in your pockets? can you catch this bug/fish for me? wanna play hide and seek? can you bury/dig up this time capsule for me? can you bring me a piece of fruit? I need to speak to [other villager] but can't leave my house, can you bring them here?
I'm probably forgetting something, but you can see the disparity anyway. regular dialogue was generally more interesting too. I also like that you had to bring a sick animal medicine for *three* days instead of just one, it felt like nursing a sick friend back to health instead of one and done and was more rewarding.
-speaking of more rewarding... SHOP UPGRADES, MY BELOVED <333 my file has T&T Emporium, and it is SO NICE, OMG. ;w; I loved the process of working towards the shop upgrades and seeing it become gradually bigger and with a better item selection. ALSO I MISS YOU, GRACIE. </3 the fact that NH has the nerve to try and sell me ridiculously expensive furniture without the GracieGrace brand attached, smh.
-it was the Bug Off today! if I'd realized, I would've prepared last night, but oh well. I still got to get a couple cute furniture pieces and I think I'll place first, so that was fun.
-doing item customization yourself is more convenient (because you can see what things will look like without using a guide) and faster, but... I actually still like using Cyrus? I know he's at the co-op on Harv's island if you shell out enough cash, but that's so expensive and his prices have gone up. customization kits aren't cheap either! in NL you paid less, and had to wait a half hour for an individual item to be ready, but I like that. I like going a bit slower. NL in general is slower and so much more relaxed and relaxing, I like walking at a normal pace and getting to soak in the atmosphere and music.
-as much as I appreciate getting to hear Blathers blather about the donated stuff, I also like the convenience of getting to look at the info in the museum itself without having to bring him another one. it's part of what makes going to the museum soothing, despite that there's no wow factor in the design of the exhibits.
-Main Street in general is just so nice to have, and it makes the actual town feel bigger. I do like being able to decorate outside, but... at the same time I like the simpler feel here and the PWPs that we had. and remodeling town hall and the train station was so neat!!! why can't we do that in NH???
-GOD I MISS THE LEGEND OF ZELDA ITEMS AND VILLAGERS SO MUCH.
-the music. again, the music. NL remains one of my favorite video game soundtracks ever. when it hit 7 PM last night and The Song started playing... oh man... ;w; will we ever have that level of music quality again?
-cannot stress enough how much I miss Tortimer Island. the minigames! the easy access to summer bugs and fishing! AAAAAHHHH
-I... forgot what the Aquarius Urn looked like in this game and now I'm annoyed all over again at the blandification of the Zodiac series in NH. IT WAS BLUE AND FILLED WITH WATER. I COULD'VE. IT WOULD'VE LOOKED SO GOOD AS PART OF MY ZORA-THEMED AREAS. AAARGH!!!
-odd little discrepancy, but why is it when you talk to Gulliver to try and wake him up in NH you have to put away any tool you're carrying, but not so in NL? weird.
-I like the hyacinths and windflowers, but I also miss the violets and carnations. the purple roses were also a LOT prettier in NL.
-also, for all that NH offers more freedom in some aspects, it really took a big step backwards in house customization??? you can't even GET a different exterior until you have ALL the rooms, and you have NO CONTROL over the room size??? and the exterior options are all SO BLAND. you could be way more creative and aesthetic in NL by choosing which rooms to have, how big they were, and you had way more and more interesting exterior options.
-sure were more events and generally things to do in NL. :< the only part of winter I liked was playing snowman bingo and trying to make the different snow people for various rewards! and they took THAT away too! there was more charm, too, I loved the coziness of the "small forested village" that I got in NL, and I prefer taking the train to flying everywhere, and the post office was so cool, and I liked the reliability of taking Dr. Shrunk fruit to learn new reactions. I really hope the next game is a return to form and not more of the same problems that still plague NH...

bestie i think i already asked you before but im DOIN IT AGAIN. do u have a recc between new leaf and new horizons for which animal crossing game i should get
ABSOLUTELY recommend new leaf . Honestly you can buy nh and just pirate nl but nh gets mega fucking boring if ur playing vanilla after a whilez . Nl with cheats though is like the godly experience
Pros of nl - better villagerz, nicer hourly music imo, 3ds is a much more compact device with a better battery life, much cozier atmosphere, ridiculously easy to mod
Pros of nh - crafting system, more furniture, much more outdoor and character customization, some food farming mechanicz beyond fruit trees + cooking
Really depends on personal taste ! I recommend trying new leaf first via piracy and seeing if it holds your attention . If it doesn't, consider new horizons ! I personally like new leaf better

Moving to the freezer 🍁
Hello from Canada, where the weather is just as bipolar as Katy Perry's Hot 'n Cold song. In the past 3 days I have already seen people with hats, gloves, skirts, shorts, warm winter boots and slippers. Upon arriving it was 5 degrees Celsius and raining. Weather prediction for Friday is highs op 28 degrees. A lot to get used to.
A small side note, I will continue to use the superior metric and centigrade system as the Canadians apparently can't decide on which measurement system they prefer to use. Road distances are measured in kilometers, a door height in feet and inches. All weight is measured in pounds, but driving speed in kilometers per hour. Very confusing.
Last week Monday the movers arrived and cleared the house. This was a bit worrying as we lived in a furnished house, and thus had to make sure they would not take what did not belong to us. We briefly considered telling them to clear the house out, and losing our deposit. After all, our deposit was probably a 10th of the nice furniture in the house and it would solve us a lot of hassle of buying new stuff. Luckily all went well and we believe everything that should've stayed remained. Who knows, maybe in 2 months we will unwrap some surprise gifts from the 23 cubic meters, or is it 812 cubic foot 🤔...
Tumblr media Tumblr media
So once the house was raided we got to stay in a hotel we could pick from a list provided by Naomi's work. Obviously, if such an opportunity arises you select the one for the coolest experience. We ended up staying in Hotel des Indes. While Naomi still had to work, I finished up the last jobs in NL and roamed around the old center of The Hague to soak it in one last time. Arguably, the best attribute of our hotel was that it was so close to Laura's work, which allowed me to meet up with her for lunch on multiple occasions.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Then Saturday came, and it was time for departure. It was great seeing Laura, Kevin and Lars come to the airport and wave us off. After some chats and tears, it was finally time to leave. The repatriation came with business class tickets, which is a game changer for long distance travelling in my opinion. Lounge access prior to departure with lots of free food! A seat that allows you the completely recline and stretch out! Proper cutlery 😱😱😱! Never did I think an upgrade would make such a difference. But I remain with both feet on the ground. This experience probably got me my one and only KLM house. Next time back it's back to peasant class.

Upon arrival Naomi's parents picked us up and drove us around to get groceries. A big thank you to them for all their help and starter care packages. Today we have finally settled in to our 40m2 (431 sq ft) apartment where we will stay till our shipment arrives, hopefully within the next 8-10 weeks. Location is superb, right in down town. It's a 10 minute walk away from Naomi's work, and about 20 minutes to the library where I will mostly likely spend my time the coming months preparing for the PCE exam. The picture below is from one of our walks, and reminds me of the beautiful nature this country has to offer. Rockies in the distance!

what r some of ur favorite things (characters, items, clothing, etc) from any animal crossing game? r there things u would have liked to see in acnh from past games? do u have a favorite track (from kk slider or from the background music)? favorite creature? OOH OR FAVORITE GYROID?
OK LETS GO
DR. SHRUNK (esp wild world shrunk where he is Very Small) but otherwise uhm... the balloon furniture set... the astro furniture set also!! my fav clothing items are the retro sweater from nh and the rainbow tights from nl!!!
i miss the renovated nook stores so much... the best parts of the old games to me was the sense the progression everything had the more you played and it just seems like after you have all 4 special buildings set up in nh theres just. not much else to do. also i think nh is a lil too easy if that makes sense? flowers never wilt, weeds dont feel punishing anymore, its just. a lil boring compared to the older games. its similar to how the sims has been doing honestly: the older games have way better gameplay but the newest one is pretty and more customization so i still play it.
kk bashment is rlly good!! i also like kk parade :o] kk cruisin' is regularly stuck in my head. also also i like kk ska. basically i like all kk music but otherwise i like the music that plays in the main tent in nh before you build resident services
im assuming u mean villager animal type? in which case i rlly like deer and mouse villagers :o] mice and sheep are also v good
DOOTOID!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

My first try of recreating the house (left) of TS-Hendrik. ^^ Not perfect but it’s ok so far. I have rotate some furnitures, and I just see now that one room has to be changed a little. I need to convert some floors and walls but that’s not very hard. It also looks like I haven’t put all the things I had found into my house-downloads folder, like computers, crystals, trees, bushes and terrain paint. I know I have these somewhere, maybe in another downloads-folder. The bad thing is: Hendrik is having two music star rugs next to his bed, I found them for TS2 but: they are using an IKEA-mesh (I think all of the rugs by Nutty use that mesh since none is working for me) and I don’t have IKEA. :( @susen70 once tried to put them on a basegame or NL mesh but it didn’t worked. (I think it was a shadow problem) :/

26 Sims questions
I forgot if I was tagged or I just saw this and decided I was in the mood to answer questions so copied it and poked it in my drafts for some reason. Now it's being published. 1.What’s your favourite sims death?
I don't have a favorite type but I guess my favorites death of one of my sims was in an alternate timeline when Adriana Cosgrove just had a baby, was exhausted, starving and tried to make some toaster pastries and caught the kitchen on fire and I wasn't quite sure if she died from burning or starvation. That save borked so I had to back up three months before when she was alive and she avoided that fate and is now an elder, and went on to have a third child.
2. Alpha CC or Maxis Match?
A healthy mix. I tend to lean more toward Alpha in Skin, Eyes, and Hairs. Clothes I can do either, furniture I tend to go for either as well.
3. Do you cheat when your sims gain weight?
No, I make them use the gym. I downloaded those gyms for a reason. I'm going to use them damn it!
4. Do you use move objects?
Always.
5. Favorite mod?
The Sim Blender is quantifiably my favorite for how much I use it.
6. First expansion/game/stuff pack you got?
Nightlife! I skipped Uni and bought NL for my sister (and also for me)
7. Do you pronounce “live mode” like aLIVE or LIVing?
aLIVE mode.
8. Who’s your favorite sim that you’ve made?
Fuck, 16 years later I probably have at least a top five that switches around every month. Let's say Amelia Calhoun (formerly Wellington) I have a ton of pictures of her sprinkled throughout this blog over the years. She's obsessed with the ocean.
9. Have you made a simself?
Of course, when I first started out playing. Who hasn't?
10. What sim traits do you give yourself?
None. I don't play with Traits.
11. Which is your favorite EA hair color?
Brown, I guess. EAxis hair colors I really don't like or use but if I have to it would be the brown as it doesn't stick out as much.
12. Favorite EA hair?
The shaggy male hair that was the epitome of 'cool' and 'hot' in 2005
13. Favorite life stage?
Teen probably. Mostly for that's when their characters start really emerging for me as a player. Functionally, I think an adult is my favorite age stage.
14. Are you a builder or are you in it for the gameplay?
I'm a player/sotryteller first and foremost but I get into building kicks.
15. Are you a CC creator?
I've made it before. Will probably make some again.
16. Do you have any simblr friends/a sim squad?
I'm friendly with a lot of simmers on simblr, and interact with them in other sims areas on the internet like Discord, the FB group, or Twitch and Twitter.
17. What’s your favorite game? (1, 2, 3, or 4)
Sims 2 unequivocally. There is only room for 2 in my life.
18. Do you have any sims merch?
Nope.
19. Do you have a YouTube for sims?
Yes. It's all I do on my youtube.
20. How has your “sim style” changed throughout your years of playing?
It's gotten a lot more...detailed? I tend to like plan and play out scenarios
21. What’s your Origin ID?
I don't have Origin.
22. Who’s your favorite CC creator?
There are so many and so many are extra super talented I feel like I would slight someone if I stated only one.
23. How long have you had a simblr?
Since 2012.
24. How do you edit your pictures?
On befunky.com or Photoshop.
25. What expansion/game/stuff pack do you want next?
Sims 2 shall have none. My next hope for a modding breakthrough is choosing seasonal casual clothing so that the game will show a sim on the lot in their seasonally appropriate casual wear. Good for places with different climates because who wants to see someone in long sleeves who lives in a temperate subhood, in the summery desert?
26. What expansion/game/stuff pack is your favorite so far?
Seasons, probably.

As you can see I've colour coded the sets by game. NL is pink, NH is blue, and sets that didn't really change between games are purple.
For the redesign matches, it was an even split between NH and NL. out of 10 redesign matches, they each won 5.
It's easier for me if all the new polls post in a row with no gaps between, so round 2 will start in a few days to give the hourly tournament a chance to catch up! This should be the only round where I have to do that.

For a long time the work of architect, designer and artist Lucien Engels (*1928) very much unknown outside of Belgium. A student of Louis-Herman de Koninck and Victor Bourgeois at La Cambre in Brussels Engels developed a comprehensive vision of a contemporary lifestyle that integrated architecture, furniture and art. With great sensitivity Engels designed modernist yet sensual houses, apartment buildings and furniture. His magnum opus nonetheless is the „Home Emile Vandervelde II“ in Oostduinkerke, a holiday resort completed in 1957 and a total work of art for which Engels also designed furniture and murals and also involved other artists. e.g. Jan Cox who realized a 35 meter long mural.
A comprehensive overview of Lucien Engels’ rich oeuvre provides the present catalogue, written by Geert Bekaert and Mil De Kooning and published by Urban Gent in 2010: it contains a thorough biographical essay on the architect by Bekaert, followed by four case studies of his most important projects: the aforementioned „Home Emile Vandervelde II“, the Lambiotte and Lauwers houses, the Emile Vandervelde II house and his stunning own house. Extensively illustrated with plans, drawings and photographs and competently explained by Mil De Kooning the reader easily understands the irresistible appeal of Lucien Engels’ architecture and details. In the following chapters the authors shed light on his furniture designs, his collaboration with other artists as well as his own artistic output that amalgamates influences of Paul Klee, Primitivism and traditional Asian art.
Being a bilingual (NL/EN) edition the present catalogue provides a richly illustrated and very insightful overview of the work of an important Belgian architect also to an international audience. Very worth exploring!

Ah! We must be on a similar brainwave, I’ve been thinking about cracking open ACNL for this past week! While there’s a lot of new furniture I like in NH, I really miss some of the fun furniture in NL. Like the retro series!
yeah there’s also something really charming about the older art style to me too. like i do appreciate the beauty of an HD animal crossing game but the clunkiness of the old furniture styles have their own appeal to me too! plus i feel like as far as furniture goes there is a lot of cool and quirky stuff in acnl especially after the welcome amiibo update! also i feel like the gameplay aspects of acnl are a bit more robust with included minigame items like the desert island escape and puzzle game. the island minigames are also lots of fun and a great way to play with other people! i do wish we could place furniture items outside like we can in acnh. maybe a future ac title will hit a better balance of activities but who knows!
