what r some of ur favorite things (characters, items, clothing, etc) from any animal crossing game? r there things u would have liked to see in acnh from past games? do u have a favorite track (from kk slider or from the background music)? favorite creature? OOH OR FAVORITE GYROID?
OK LETS GO
DR. SHRUNK (esp wild world shrunk where he is Very Small) but otherwise uhm... the balloon furniture set... the astro furniture set also!! my fav clothing items are the retro sweater from nh and the rainbow tights from nl!!!
i miss the renovated nook stores so much... the best parts of the old games to me was the sense the progression everything had the more you played and it just seems like after you have all 4 special buildings set up in nh theres just. not much else to do. also i think nh is a lil too easy if that makes sense? flowers never wilt, weeds dont feel punishing anymore, its just. a lil boring compared to the older games. its similar to how the sims has been doing honestly: the older games have way better gameplay but the newest one is pretty and more customization so i still play it.
kk bashment is rlly good!! i also like kk parade :o] kk cruisin' is regularly stuck in my head. also also i like kk ska. basically i like all kk music but otherwise i like the music that plays in the main tent in nh before you build resident services
im assuming u mean villager animal type? in which case i rlly like deer and mouse villagers :o] mice and sheep are also v good
DOOTOID!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Green 🍃 &
Main Street!
(For animal crossing ask)
Green leaf🍃 What is your favourite furniture set?
I think sets in NH don't work as well as in NL when you put them together so I tend to mix and match pretty much all the time as a result. in NH I think my favorite is the cardboard set! I find it funny, cute and practical ahah
Main Street🛣 What is your favourite store to shop in?
ooh good question! I really like the Able Sisters because of the friendship mechanic you can develop with Sable. the store is fun, you can shop, display designs and access the portal. buying in bulk is tedious but I tend to only buy pieces I like so it's not too bothersome
#tysm for the ask it was really fun!!#ask game#I wanted to send you questions too but your ask box is closed! !

i didnt know abt skam at all until druck new gen, but have done a retrospective deep dive and was just wondering if u know how popular the remakes have been in their countries of origin? obvi theres SOME popularity, and from an international audience thanks to og skam, but did people in skam countries connect with it without the context of the og? (ik its kinda a loaded question but all ur answers are somehow entertaining and informative so figured i'd ask)
Hi anon 💐 Flattery will get you everywhere, haha. But seriously though, thanks for the note in parenthesis, I know I’m long winded, so I try to be interesting at least!
Of course I can’t really get a feel for how popular a Skam is in their home country, because I only live in Spain and I’m not part of the target demo anyway.
I will say though, that Norway has the smallest population of all countries with a Skam, and their ig accounts are the most followed across the board. There are some cases like the Eskild, the Elias Bakkoush or the Yousef characters, that didn’t really have active igs, so their remake counterparts have more followers, but that’s about it.
There’s also that NRK advised the remake teams not to promote their shows, and instead let the existing fandom and teens discover it on their own. That was the strategy NRK followed with Skam, but the issue is that Norwegian teens already had knowledge of shows like these. They’d even grown up with the Jenter characters and had aged out of that age bracket, so of course they found Skam easily and were interested in it. Some remake teams chose to follow the instructions and other teams didn’t. In general, the teams that promoted early and heavily had larger viewerships that those that didn’t. (I can discussion promotion strategies but it’s kind of beside the point in this ask lol.)
My impression about the popularity of the remakes in their own countries, and again this is just my impression and I could be wrong, since I don’t live there:
Skam NL is largely unknown in the Netherlands, mostly because it wasn’t promoted at all. I’d even say NL was pretty much viewed only by existing Skams fans.
Skam Austin had something of a following, but it averaged 300K people per episode, in a country of 328 million people. I will say FB did try to promote the show in its own way. The problem is that there’s so much scripted TV in the US market already competing for teens’ attention, and they should’ve promoted the shit out of the show. Austin wasn’t well known at all in the US.
My impression is that Skam Italia was both really well known in Italy and highly profitable. I feel like it was cancelled because timvision didn’t want to pay for a season about a Muslim girl, or didn’t think people would watch it. Once people protested and Netflix Italia reiterated their willingness to produce the season, they were happy to “uncancel” the show and afaik, their Sana season got good views.
Otoh, my impression is that Skam France does have a small local following, but it’s mostly (highly) popular abroad. And I’m really just talking about Lucas L’s season, which was so popular in South Korea that an event organizer actually held a con with the Skam France cast over there. I’m basing this on the fact that Lucas and Eliott have well over 100K followers, but every other character hasn’t reached 50K.
People have written a lot about wtFOCK being very popular with Flemish teens. It seems to be popular enough (wtfock was the most popular google search in Belgium in 2019? I think??), and I think it’s telling that Zoë is still the most followed character on ig. I would say it pretty much means that evak fandom turned its back on wtfock, because generally the Isak becomes the most followed character after his season airs. So based on this, I would say wtfock is more popular in Belgium than outside of Belgium... But not like such a hit that it would make the actors household names or anything (none of the actors are verified on ig).
IN MY OPINION... Skam España did the best out of any Skam remake locally. Their igs have the most followers overall, and not just Cris and Joana. Several characters, including Eva, Lucas R, Nora and Alejandro all broke 100k followers. A furniture store put out an ad with Cris and Joana lookalikes. A good amount of the actors are verified on ig, and many have already gone on to be cast in other projects (unlike the Austin or NL casts). I do have a couple buts. 1) Spanish is one of the most widely spoken languages in the world, and I think eskam benefited from a Latin American audience, which can’t be considered local. 2) Even though it did fairly well on youtube as a free show, I think ultimately eskam was an underperformer for Movistar. The goal was obviously to get people to subscribe to the service and access the extra content, and my guess is that this didn’t happen, because the seasons only got shorter and shorter as time went on. So, it was popular locally and internationally, but it wasn’t profitable like Skam Italia was.
As for Druck. Imo Druck isn’t all that popular locally (though BRAVO, a teen magazine, has given them some attention here and there, suggesting it’s on teens’ radars kind of? idk). But I also think that, at this point, it’s by design. Funk didn’t really promote Hanna’s season, and as such it didn’t have a lot of views. But then they chose not just to promote Mia’s season on youtube and instagram, but to drop the weekly episode on TV. I think that’s the reason Mia’s season is still the most watched to this day tbh. The thing is, if the Druck team wanted, they could do seasons upon seasons of cis white blonde blue-eyed girls falling in love with the resident cis white bad boy, enemies to lovers, and several scenes of the leads making out, being naked in a bathtub, and so on and so forth. It would clearly do well. However, they chose to focus on underrepresented minorities and narratives, and at this point it seems like they’re okay with not being really well known locally, as long as they get enough viewers to justify making more seasons. Druck is one show where I feel like they could be more popular if they wanted, but they have decided they’re good like this.

thoughts in no particular order
I thought I didn’t care much about gyroids UNTIL I SAW THE NEW ONES I am love them
I gave up hope a long time ago that they would add cyrus to customize furniture but HOLY SHIT they did it and I am so grateful. the longer this game is out for, the harder it’s going to be to have to trade to get the colour alt you want
not exactly what I imagined, but pre-release when all we knew was that we were on an island, I predicted going to the mainland for shops and ! we kinda got that !
I’ve seen so many people place ladders next to cliffs for decoration and now they can be FUNCTIONAL
ribbot and sprocket are both jocks, and if that robot octopus is jock too then headcannon is that they all run on the same personality software (well technically they do because they are characters in a video game with the same personality code or w/e but I mean in-universe)
there are 15 amiibo cards that weren’t shown. there is still hope for woolio’s return
the new villagers are so fun
thank god we can finally have fences that aren’t brown
happy home paradise looks like a big improvement over happy home designer but it’s nearly half the price
I guess I gotta make a vacation home for every villager and post it here like I did with HHD in 2019
wadda hell little monkey
what will katrina’s fortunes do? is the luck system back?
it said that the furniture items on that HHP island are “hard to come by” on the main island, can you get them at all on the main island? my guess is you can at least trade for them, same as how you can get sanrio items by trading. maybe they only get catalogued if you buy the dlc just like the sanrio items can only be reordered if you scan the cards?
for that matter, do you think the new villagers will be able to randomly move in or are they amiibo only? (I forget how it worked with the 50 welcome amiibo villagers in NL)
seems like a lot of that stuff like wall partitions and polishing furniture you can only do on the main island if you buy the dlc
new plants ! that glow ! and you can climb them !
good bye ring fit I am doing morning aerobics every day
what does beautiful ordinance do if flowers don’t wilt normally? no trash or weeds? I think I’ll be going with one of the other options in that case
thank god better house exterior customization
*lists all the crops that were in the datamine* and more! AND MORE? MORE CROPS?
if they added a whole happy home designer dlc, then there must be a LOT of new furni I bet, otherwise that’d be kind of a ripoff
is that K.K. Kpop I see as one of the new songs lmao (bottom right)
we didn’t get the store upgrade I was predicting/hoping for but I genuinely can’t care after all that

I got my 7 gallon all set up for a betta back in December when I got the furniture it's on for Christmas, but then I got a hamster and put off getting a betta because I didn't feel I needed too many new pets at once.
I was thinking it was time to get one now, but then when Solstice passed I decided it was definitely time to let a new betta fill some of the hamster sized hole in my heart.
My dream betta was a yellow plakat male, but I couldn't find one ANYWHERE even online. (Actually I did find ONE for like $80 before shipping, but that was ridiculous and I'm never going to spend that on a betta at this point in my fish keeping. I feel like no betta for pet purposes should ever cost more than ~30, shipping aside.)
It turned out pretty hard to find a betta that fit my criteria at all, because everyone's into all the new words they throw out in betta breeding like the "giant super delta rosetail half-moon galaxy koi dragonscale!" bettas, and I'm just into boring bettas. I wanted a shortfin plakat or a female without long fins, and I just wanted a nice, solid, boring color like yellow or blue!
I had to call 5 different stores and go to 2, but I ended up with this purple female veiltail! Veiltails are supposed to live the longest, so maybe this is even better than the yellow plakat male I originally wanted.
She's super adorable and seems to be settling into her 2 ft tank very well! So far she's eaten lots of live daphnia that pops up in any planted tank I have going without a fish in it, some blood worms, and at least one NLS pellet though she wasn't too into that. I may have to try her on smaller bug bites instead, she's still a tiny thing!
Tldr: new betta!!
#betta#bettablr#fishblr#fish#my fish#she doesnt have a name yet#i rarely name new bettas for the first 72 hrs in case something happens#i was going to consider equinox as a companion to Solstice but now that feels wrong to me#a friend suggested i name her twilight and idk if i will but i do kind of like it and might call her that

I'm bout to complain about New Horizons -- again! So pls excuse the critical tone buuuuuut
I really wished acnh was just a bit...more. I truly love and enjoy the game. It expanded on elements new leaf lacked, (outdoor decorating being a big one) and gave us new elements like crafting. New Horizons took risks, so why does it feel so hollow?
For one reason, New Horizons lacks a lot of what New Leaf had. We already know about Brewster and Gracie, but remember when we would customize Town Hall? It's odd that in a game where we can literally reshape the island, we can't change resident services' exterior or the plaza stones.
We're lacking furniture items/collections too. Fan faves like froggy chair, sloppy, princess, and rococo collection are gone. I'm not saying every collection needs to be in the game, but at least some of the iconic ones should make an appearance.
The last thing kind of goes hand in hand, and that's interactions and activities. The previous complaints are just cosmetic/aesthetic, but this is what makes a world feel alive. I remember playing hide and seek with my villagers in NL, running errands, and visiting their homes. Remember when villagers would schedule time to visit you or just drop by unannounced, (and they judged your interior decorating skills)?? Or remember when the in game DS unlocked mini games? It's those little details that made NL something special, and while NH is beautiful and even improves on NL quality of life, it's lacking detail.
Also, while I am being super critical of NH that doesn't mean NL was a perfect game. I grew bored after the stores closed and only visited the club sometimes. Villagers planting their house anywhere was irksome, and doing chores all the time became, well, a chore, causing me to stop playing for months at a time. Still, I think what a lot of us wanted out of NH was NL but better. Just a bit more polished, precise, and personal. Instead what we received was a beautifully rendered dollhouse with some improvements and new features.
And like, if I wanted a pretty dollhouse with missing features, I'll just play Sims 4.
#long post#anch#acnl#animal crossing#im back on this hill y'all#oh and another thing#where is pete??#how we getting mail with no mail bird delivering it??#i also forgot to mention how swimming had to be an update#instead of a built in feature#animal crossing new leaf#animal crossing new horizons

Year in Review - Animal Crossing New Horizons
I started writing this review/criticism in May of 2020 but decided to update it as the year went along and post it on the anniversary of NH’s release. I would like to preface that this is mostly going to be full of questions of criticisms, I love this game. I have not been able to put it down since I got it on March 20th. My first AC game was NL and then I played HHD. I was ecstatic when they announced NH at E3 2019 and kept trying to find other games to fit in my AC shaped hole in my heart but I wasn’t able to fill it till this game came out. I feel like the pace of the game is great with how you build up to unlocking terraforming and 5 stars, and I feel like the updates are well timed especially with how crazy 2020 was for everybody. That being said there were some things that irked me.
Some of the points I will bring up came from other people/commenters I have seen on here, Discord, Reddit, and Twitter that I also agree with. Some other points are from Youtubers such as ShayMay and ChuyPlays. And others are from me.
With that out of the way, let’s get on with the review. Warning, I guess, don’t expect this to be an essay, this is just a patchwork quilt made up of thoughts.
Terraforming
I wish cliffs/tiers had a smaller level? Like how we’re able to make stepping stones for our rivers if we don’t want to put a bridge down/use our vaulting pole. I just wish there was a cliff alternative.
Another cliff alternative would be if we could put bridges between cliffs. I think we’ve all been there where we see this picture
thought ‘we can do that!!” then realized it was photoshopped
When we go into terraforming, I wish a grid showed up on our island. It would make it much easier to avoid hitting the wrong square when I’m trying to change a river.
Having us be able to “close” a waterfall from a lower level but not create a new on at the same spot.
Also the fact we can add a 4th tier but can’t put anything on it is just strange to me. I know we have to have a limit to how high we can go, but at least let me put nature stuff, such as trees/flowers/bushes, on top of it instead of just a flat piece of land.
Houses
Why no ceiling items? Find it odd they added a bunch of stuff in HHD and didn’t add that to the new mainline game
There’s no reason I can think of to why we can’t access our storage when we’re crafting inside our house.
Buildings
Dodo Airlines
The Dodo Islands right now are very boring and barely use them. I have enough money and materials to not go farming and save up all my NMTs for when I go villager hunting, which has also become a rarity. I think it would be a good idea to make some islands seasoned themed. Have them be all rare, but have an island where it’s fall and has maple leaves falling, a cherry blossom one, one with snowflakes. I wouldn’t recommend they make Holiday themed ones, but having seasonal ones would be nice.
When I mess up a dodo code or accidentally hit ‘make a bridge’ instead of incline, etc. why do I have to restart the ENTIRE conversation instead of the characters just being oh? did you mean “x” or “would you like to retype it?” like is it that hard??
Resident Services
As much as I love Isabelle this game has made me very indifferent towards her. I think they gave her a role that didn’t need to exist. They could have either let us roam around without any warnings to who was roaming around our island, in the campsite, or any weather updates. Just have us rely on our villagers, the TV, and our eyeballs. OR they could have given us a social media like app and/or a weather app. Instead, they gave us Isabelle that only announces something once a month.
Nook’s Cranny
This might just be me but can they add a little DIY area in the store? Maybe just make to where you can only customize things?? This is more out of convenience than an actual problem
Speaking of customization, since you can make medicine but also buy can we do the same for the custom kits and bait. Like make it where we can buy bait and also make our own custom kits? I just think it’s weird that they give us either/or for medicine but not for the other 2 that I honestly use way more than medicine.
Why do the Able Sisters get to have all of the colors of an item in their shop but Nook’s Cranny can’t? And why can’t we just be able to customize all items that have multiple looks/colors? Example, why can’t I just be able to change the wood type for the antique set instead of having to buy each one? I get that the furniture catalog is already small, but that’s not my fault. They’ve decided to not add past furniture sets into NH.
Able Sisters
Let us multi select clothes instead of it just being how much we can wear. idc if it’ll just put those clothes in our personal storage and then we’ll have to run home and put it in that storage, I just hate having to walk back in and out every time I want a dress in multi colors. ALSO tell us if we already bought it, like a little storage icon or something
Why can’t we hang any article of clothing on the back wall, why do we have to either make it or have the OG qr designer come to our island?
Why can’t we have the transparent option when designing clothes? I think it would make many designer’s lives easier instead of having to make 8 versions of the same outfit.
NPCs
I have played this game almost every day since it came out, minus 2 days. I have also been able to make friends on discord that help with trading/cataloging/etc. I have all of Saharah’s, Kicks’, Label’s, and Redd’s items. I have all of the fish/bug models I want and have no desire to “catch them all”. I haven’t talked to Wisp in months because I have most of the items and his idea of “expensive” is 10k bells. The only NPC I actively look forward to is Celeste because even though I now have all of her DIYs, she still gives out star fragments, regular large or horoscope, when I talk to her.
What I’m wondering is if they’re planning on doing anything else with these characters. Before I speak further I’m going to weed out characters that I am actually fine with. CJ and Flick will always be there if I want a bug/fish model, I understand that Saharah/Kicks/Redd have a ton of stuff to get and w/o the help of my discord friends, I probably wouldn’t have gotten everything till late 2021.
So that leaves Label and Wisp. I understand Wisp is there for beginners, but now that I’m at a point where I am a bell millionaire and have most of the Nook’s items cataloged, there is no reason for me to talk to him. I wish Nintendo had put in a system where depending on the person who Wisp is talking to, it determines how much money you have in your bank account/looks at your catalog, Wisp’s item’s worth goes up.
As for Label...I never saw her as viable. I also thought the tickets were dumb and you don’t even have to talk to her to have her items show up in the shop the next day. I think it would be great if when you bought all of her items, she decided to join the Able’s sisters in their shop like in NL and then have Gracie show up in her place for the weekly NPC.
Where is Blanca? Or Brewster? Or Shrunk, Katrina, Gracie, or Kapp’n and his family? I understand we will probably never see characters like Harriet or Pete because they have been replaced by a new system, but what is the excuse for these other characters? I’m hoping they show up in year 2 of NH but...we’ll see.
Villagers
I think having your first villagers living in basic homes is a good idea but one that quickly gets annoying. I found Sherb while villager hunting for the 1st time and have had him ever since, but his house is stuck at basic lazy setup. Instead of me going back and forth on whether or not i should trust somebody enough to hold Sherb, get somebody else out, then get him to move back to my island, You can have it to where you let them leave, then just wait till he comes to the campsite to visit and reinvite him. You get his actual house and he still remembers you. This could also go for you accidentally letting somebody go or letting somebody go then regretting it. Also it’d be fun to see some old villagers again.
I was curious and looked back on past games to see how many new villagers were released each game and NH has been the least amount. NL released 112 new villagers in total while NH has released 8. I’m hoping they might release more down the line but, hella disappointing imo. Along with the Sanrio update and adding those characters to the game, I am more hopeful that they’ll be adding new characters!
Having an “event” of sorts where you visit a villager’s house and they’re looking inside their closet. They look at you in surprise when you walk in and sheepishly explain that they were going through their clothes/items. They then decide to ask you for help since they can’t decide what to get rid of/what to keep and think you have a good eye for that sort of thing. Basically, a way to get rid of any clothes/items your villager somehow received bc I guess Isabelle scolding them isn’t enough.
A big problem I feel like everybody has is the villager dialogue. Yes they added sub personality types for each personality but they are not perfectly cut in half, ex. are the Sisterly types where there are 4 B types and 20 A types, like?? How I have “fixed” this problem is by having one of each personality type on my island so I always have different conversations with my villagers, but I understand not a lot of people do that. Some people just want normal/peppy types on their island bc they’re cute as hell, I get it. I know it would be...difficult to come up with unique dialogue for all 399 villagers, including Sanrio, but....you could at least for the “gimmicky” villagers. Some examples of these villagers are Ribbot and Sprocket, Lucky and Ankha, the super hero squad, and Kabuki.
Quality Life stuff
Why cant we sit AND wish on stars? And I don’t mean the sit emote; why can’t I sit on a bench and wish on stars?
It sucks when I’m about to hit my rocks or just do a lot of dig work and then my shovel breaks in the middle of it. To show the tool is about to break, cracks should start to form on the handle and get deeper/longer as you keep using it, starting when you have 5 uses left. You can also add an auditory element by making the tool sound like its struggling when you are using it. Net/Shovel/Axe/Fishing Pole can have cracks show up on the handle, Slingshot can have crack show up at the bottom of the 2 spokes while having 1 at the top of the handle. And the watering can have cracks at the base of the can.
If our inventory is full when I dig up a flower, why can’t I replace it with another flower to bury? And if I can dig up an item at an diagonal item, I should be able to bury it again at the same angle.
Other
Having more...liveliness?? on the island, idk how else to say it. Example is whenever you travel by plane there's a chemtrail in the sky afterwards, maybe just seeing other planes go by throughout the day. Maybe you can get a hint Redd or Gulliver will be visiting you tomorrow if you see their boats beyond the horizon, Redd’s just crusin’ and the Gulls’ boats looking messed up. On a week where you don't have a new camper, maybe have an old villager visit. That leads me too
I wish villager’s doors could count as “exterior decorating” and we can just put any ornamental on there instead having to hope that your villager will put the wreath on their own door.
Conclusion
If you read this whole thing holy shit, thanks!! Go treat yourself on my part lol If you disagreed with me or whatever feel free to chat with me about it!

Hi! So I love your tumblr, its so cute. All switches are sold out everywhere in the uk and I cant get a hold of one (so no NH for me yet), so I've resorted to playing New leaf instead. It's been great but I would love to find some cute patters for paving, or if there are any ways to find cuter furniture (?) etc. except grinding through the stores each day, do you have any suggestions for where to look?
I hope they restock soon! I still get the hankering to play New Leaf some days though. So, my town’s paths came from this website: http://bibidesign.blog.fc2.com/blog-entry-60.html
They’ve got a lot of other cute options. Also, searching “acnl paths” in Tumblr gets some good results too. As for furniture, I joined the AC addicts group over on Facebook. A lot of people don’t have the new game and are playing NL. They’ve also got a really extensive hacking guide (if you’re not morally opposed to it)

I don’t have the game yet, but when putting down furniture, is it just like putting it down in HHD/the update in NL? Like where you can select furniture and move it all at once or just selecting furniture and drag it wherever
You can select multiple furniture or one piece, you can also select if you want to move a table or the items on the table for example. You can select to bring items in from storage or from your pockets, you can also store items in a room fairly quickly! It is very similar to HHD but it feels way nicer, because your character is never in the way (they disappear in the UI when you select to decorate the room). You can also decorate walls separately, and move items up and down, as well as left and right. You can also decorate the regular way in NL prior to the WA update, but not recommended!

A (semi-comprehensive) List of Comparisons between New Leaf and New Horizons
It's hard to put all my thoughts and opinions into an orderly fashion, but I really want to put it out there, for no other reason than to possibly have people find it and relate I guess.
Now do note, I love both games, and this is no specific bias toward one or the other. I'm strictly thinking critically of both titles.
New Horizons: Changes/Additions
Quick Tool Menu -- Pressing Up on the D-Pad to bring up all your "favourite" tools for quick access, rather than having to cycle through all your tools or open your pockets to select the desired tool. Those are still options, but this is much more convenient.
Tailored Conversations -- When talking to your villagers, the conversation will either be a default, or relate to your clothing, surroundings, etc. Gives the player a feeling that they are impacting the environment and are validated in what they do.
Idle Villagers -- While not engaged in conversation, the villagers appear to go about their own routine, fishing, dancing, resting under trees, using the various things set up around the island, etc. It feels less like playing with AI, and more like with interactive people.
Furniture outside -- The ability to set up most any furniture (as long as it doesn't need to be hung on a wall), to be set up outside, allowing for maximum customization of island layout.
Crafting -- Running around the island in search for natural resources (or journeying to a mystery island) to craft various tools or pieces of furniture.
New Leaf: What it's like
Having to cycle through tools to get something you need. Ex, hearing a balloon while fishing, and needing to cycling through to find your slingshot, and then make sure your not too close to water or a bed of flowers.
Default conversations, having the same 4-5 greetings for different personality types. Doesn't feel really engaging, mostly like a robotic routine.
Idle Villagers walking into and pushing one another as a result of the AI, walking back and forth over a bridge, possibly crowding it so you have to push through. Makes them more obstacles that interactive beings.
The other type of "furniture" allowed outside is PWPs (public works projects), and some cannot be removed from where they are placed (and while I'm aware of the save editor, this is going off the game as it is).
No crafting ability. Have to obtain any furniture from balloons, trees, the nook store, or your villagers.
Now for some more minor things. Personally, I have visual and auditory processing issues at times. So when fishing, it's a bit of a challenge. NL has the bobber sinking, as well as a very clear and loud "bloop" to signify the bite. NH on the other hand, took a more "realistic" approach in it's sounds, so the nibbling and then bite sound more like a dripping faucet, and are rather quiet in comparison.
The same auditory issues come up with balloons. NL does not have town wind necessarily, the loudest it gets naturally is if you are near the ocean. But the balloons have a very audible gust of wind that gets louder or softer if you are near or far. NH has natural wind, so trying to differentiate the normal wind from a balloon gust is difficult.
One minor thing that kind of annoys me, and I'm not sure if anyone else cares, but when I'm just running around fishing, I won't always throw back the fish I don't want right away, and hold onto them until I catch what I need. In NL, because your pockets open on the touch screen, it allows you to mass dump/release whatever is in your pockets, no matter what it is. Bugs, fish, items, etc. You have to close out your pockets manually. NH only keeps it open if you are dumping flowers or items. You have to open it back up if planting trees or shrubs, which can be helpful, but not when releasing a bunch of bugs or fish.
And of course, both games have two different atmospheres. NL is you taking leadership of an existing town and changing things to your aesthetic/ideal. NH is building an island/community/town from ground up, building, crafting and growing your population from your initial two villagers. So obviously these games cannot 100% be compared on that stance, but they can be compared as game functions and improvements.

Animal Crossing New Horizons... old formula?
Animal Crossing New Horizons - review
Animal Crossing. Of all the sweet innocent family friendly video games out there – this one has to be one of the best. Nintendo has released their new rendition of this game for the Switch console and what can we say? This game is GREAT!
Nintendo has a unique way of being able to take a tried and tested formula add a few things to it then re-launch to normally positive feedback. Pokémon and Legend of Zelda are probably their most famous for this and, indeed, when Pokémon Sword and Shield launched in November 2019, we knew we’d be hunting for creatures to once again battle opponents and make our way through the ranks to become ‘The Champion.’ It’s tried, it’s tested and it works! Animal Crossing New Horizons is no exception.
In Animal Crossing New Leaf, released in November 2012, you become mayor of a village of adorable little anthropomorphic animals. As their leader, you have to ensure the smooth running of your new town, by building shops and stores and balancing your own increasing costs of housing and earning money to pay off a seemingly never-ending loan. New Horizons has taken things a step further. You and two other random campmates arrive on a deserted island owned by raccoon Tom Nook. Tom is offering holidays on said island and you and your campmates are the first to test it out. You begin with a tent... that’s literally it. From there you run around the island collecting sticks and twigs that litter the island floor and are hidden in trees. As the game progresses you learn how to make tools to harvest natural resources, which in turn, will allow you to craft better tools, to collect better materials.
Now I’m not going to say it don’t like this game. I like it, in fact, I love it and have been playing it at every available opportunity. However, once you upgrade from your tent to a small house, the game begins to feel very much like New Leaf and within a few short days, you owe Tom Nook money for his services to your abode. So you start working on paying him back. You do this the traditional way; catching bugs, fish and fruit picking. Initially, it’s easy to do. You can sell almost anything you find on the island to earn bells, but don’t expect to be doing this anytime soon...
In fact, you’ll most likely be doing this.
There are however some neat little features. In NL, there was a LOT of freedom... the best way I’ve heard it described is: I can do all the things... so I’m not gonna do anything and it’s pretty accurate. New Leaf was wonderful but gave so much freedom it was impossible to know where to go and what to do next. NH has a feature called Nook Miles. These delightfully simple instructions are sent directly to your Nook Phone, (jam-packed full of other features). These small bite-sized tasks are perfect if you are not sure what to do next. Nook Miles for completed tasks hold no monetary value but you can build them up and trade them on for neat items or recipes... ah yes... recipes.
Recipes are the backbone of what New Horizons is built on (pun intended). Recipes are actually instructions on how to build things. From tools to furniture, you’ll be referring to them a lot. Some recipes are harder to come by than others, and some will be hardly used, but the collecting of items to craft them is a breath of fresh air.
Some old favourites make a reappearance too. The adorable Timmy and Tommy return as Toms Assistants and Blathers the knowledgeable owl, and more! New Horizons also boasts online compatibility with up to eight people available to play together at any one time. This comes in handy, especially in the early days when you might need materials, or fruit needed to grow trees, different from the native ones on your island.
In short, Nintendo took the formula from New Leaf, gave it minimum tweaks, and a new console. This really is a good game to get into and VERY addictive. Of course, the building and collecting side of things is still the same but that’s what the game is about as you build up your island paradise.
Verdict:
Worth the investment – 9/10

things i want in future updates:
BUSHES!!!!
more variety in foliage! why can’t i have ferns
bring back tropical fruits
add more fruit (like grapes from pc? i didnt play pc but i want grapes)
“add to cart” in the able sisters, it’s a pain to buy things one at a time
more things to do in multiplayer. im sure they’ll add this at some point
craft multiple things at once (fish bait...)
a grid when planting things or digging. ESPECIALLY when terraforming it’s annoying to not know where you’re digging
more dialogue for villagers bc with punchy “conversations” are literally JUST “hi it’s me punchy! another neat day in gladebrook!” and that’s IT. wasn’t dialogue in ww a couple boxes long? even nl dialogue was usually like... 3 boxes? NEVER one box.
an easier way to access storage, or outdoor storage
i do NOT want clerks following me everywhere in the store, it’s not necessary. if i need to sell something to the nooks i’ll walk up to timmy myself. they dont need to follow me and block my walkway
NINTENDO THE SWITCH HAS A TOUCH SCREEN PLEASE UTILIZE IT WHY CAN YOU DRAW WITH TOUCH CONTROLS WHEN USING THE BULLETIN BOARD, THE MORE USELESS “FEATURE”, WHY CAN I NOT USE TOUCH CONTROLS WHEN USING CUSTOM PATTERNS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! IT MAKES NO SENSE!!!!!!
as stated the bulletin board is USELESS it’s mostly just good for letting visitors write on it. everything else, like events, you hear about it from villagers, or from isabelle, so why bother reading it? bring back weather reports or those messages from ww. idk. add Anything
make pocket organization easier. it takes like 2 full seconds to pick up something in your inventory. it was faster in the old games to select “pick up” in the menu
dont make the default option when on an item “drop”. instead switch it back to “open present”, “eat”, etc. im sick of dropping everything
make gardening easier. PLEASE. either make flowers stackable or speed up the process of picking up flowers. using the shovel takes two seconds and then you have to fill the holes back up which takes MORE time
more variety in islands
things like the roost, kappn, etc, but i’m sure those things will be added later
^^ also old furniture bc there’s SO much missing from the game rn i walk into nooks cranny and see the same thing every day i rarely see something totally new. its just recolours of things ive already seen
