Classroom Fun!

What an amazing week! Getting to educate and share life experiences with today’s youth is priceless! I was in one of the top high schools in Los Angeles for most of the week and here are a few #AHAmoments #professorttobe #roadtothephd #educatorsRock

1. Classroom management is really all about how YOU set the tone of the day from the first 2 minutes. In two minutes or less you need to establish that you care, an elevator pitch on who you are, and show that you are in charge without actually saying you are in charge (thanks to Army for teaching me that jewel)

2. There are some freaking awesome students...who love to learn and really will do the right thing when expectations are clear.

3. A simple thank you (like the one pictured from my students) really can put the biggest smile on your face...people managers don’t miss this nugget! It is not always about the money...for some people these two words are #priceless

Learn...Shift...Adjust

If I am being honest my first semester in my Doctoral program did not go as well as I had hoped. I STRUGGLED! Man was it tough! The California fires and life happening caused me to get behind and I never really caught up!

I found myself in late December wondering what the HELL happened. Instead of crying of spilled milk...I had to make some serious life adjustments. I had to build in daily study time to life. Determined to make sure that this semester I am successful. I built two hours of study time into my daily regiment. This way I never get behind on my reading and have enough time to dedicate to my quizzes and writings. This schedule is not a GAME! I have to stick to it. Grateful to the #Army for instilling the discipline tools in me early.

I also had a family meeting about some of things that had to change in my family dynamic in order for me to be successful this semester. A simple talk with my husband and daughter has made a world of difference. My road to the final 3 letters has become a family goal! I also joined the gym. One of the best decisions I could have made. My workouts give me LIFE! My carefree moments on the treadmill and my weekly Yoga class really helps provide the balance I need and energizes me for a grueling week of reading and studying!

This semester is off to a great start and it really only took a few adjustments! Lesson: Never accept undesirable outcomes at face value...learn...shift...adjust!
