ok YES i just need to start participating in ex-Christian tiktok bc this was my thought immediately after hearing this family was mormon and nobody else was talking about it!!
these kind of ideologies idealize and reward strict parenting bc strict parenting = more controllable adult congregation members. everyone is so confused on how this 8 passengers mormon mom was sharing these horrible parenting moments unapologetically and it's like, yea, it's because she thinks she's right on a *spiritual* level so she doesn't give a fuck what people outside of her ideology think. Bc she wholeheartedly believes they're not on her level.

Personally I agree on the not relating everything to dsmp thing, but I’m not saying anything because Wilbur himself brought up having a previous child so this was the only logical outcome 🤷🏽‍♂️
i understand i just hate it SO BADDD LMAOOO specifically the fanfics (im just trying to read some dadbur fluff WHY DOES IT ALWAYS HAVE TO BE ABT FUNDY AND ANGST) i really enjoy them calling back to dsmp lore as jokes bc it feels like a funny inside joke everyones in on but jfc sometimes the way some ends of the fanbases take it boil my blood idk

*child abuse content warning* This is the Hannah Bhiatt person I was talking about earlier. From what I can see, she was trying to be just a basic white Christian (mormon) girl influencer but stuck out for the treatment of her little boy, particularly around food.

Youtube Video Essayists part 2
I made one of these lists years ago, so if you're wondering why big names like hbomberguy and Kat Blaque aren't here, that's why.
Science and Tech
Miniminuteman - Archaeologist and science educator whose content focuses on archaeological mysteries and debunking pseduoarcheaology. Videos average about 20 minutes to an hour and a half.
Adam Something - Most of his videos focus on urbanism and transport (it's more interesting than it sounds, I promise), but he also occasionally covers politics and culture. His bread and butter is tearing apart impractical billionaire passion projects (hyperloop, the cybertruck, Munger Hall). Big fan of trains. Average video playtime is 10 to 20 minutes.
Petal Palmer - A pre-med student and cancer patient who covers true stories of medical oddities and malpractice. Some of my favourites are on the Tylenol murders, the woman who froze alive (and survived unscathed), and fraudulent cancer awareness orgs. Videos run from 10 minutes to an hour and a half.
Politics and Culture
Caelan Conrad - Their channel mainly covers gay and trans rights, with a focus on debunking right-wing narratives and commentators. Videos average 30 minutes to an hour and a half.
Fundie Fridays - Started as a channel where Jen did her makeup and talked about various figures and sects of Christian fundamentalism, has since grown to include her husband and to cover politics. Very respectful in her tone, and very funny. I'd recommend their videos on the Miracle Mineral Solution (bleach), Eugene Scott, Duck Dynasty, and Gwen Shamblin Lara. Their early videos are only around 10 to 20 minutes, but these days they run as long as an hour and a half.
Khadija Mbowe - Honestly, her channel could fit under any of these categories. Her content varies wildly, but is always engaging and thought provoking. I'd recommend her videos on meritocracy in health and weightloss, Poor Things and engaging with 'problematic' material, and Barbie and white feminism. Videos average 20 to 40 minutes
F.D Signifier - Very well researched and presented commentary on politics, media, and black manhood. I'd recommend his videos on Eminem and white rappers, what makes men desirable, white men and edge lord movies, and how black athletes are exploited. Videos average 40 minutes to an hour and a half.
Foreign Man in a Foreign Land - Commentary on race and Caribbean culture. I'd recommend his videos on racism in gaming, tourism as the new slavery, and Elizabeth II and english colonialism. Videos average 20 minutes to an hour.
Arts and Entertainment
Broey Deschanel - Channel focuses on film and film criticism. I'd highly recommend her videos on the problems with method acting, feeling cynical about Barbie, and the 'death' of cinema. Videos average about 20 to 50 minutes and have a high production value.
Jane Mulcahy - Film and tv analysis, with a focus on media aimed towards female audiences. Lighthearted but thoughtful. I'd recommend her videos on the Red White and Royal Blue movie, Lifetime 'Daddy' movies, and the 'psycho biddy' genre. Videos average 20 minutes to an hour.
Verily Bitchie - Examining movies and tv through a queer and feminist lense, along with occasional videos on culture on politics. I'd recommend her feminist critique of Doctor Who, a look at bisexual representation on TV, and her video on trial by tiktok. Videos average 10 minutes to an hour and a half.
Coldcrashpictures - Pretty standard long-form film analysis. I'd recommend his videos on the current state of Hollywood, Freaks (1932) and old school horror, the 2020 dumpster fire watchlist, and cinematic masculinity. Videos average 20 minutes to an hour.
Internet Culture
WURLD - Commentary on internet trends and culture. More lighthearted and off the cuff in her presentation. Best videos include Is Booktok Ruining Reading?, the obsession with reusable cups, and hustle culture is a nightmare. Videos run from 15 to 45 minutes.
Gabi Bell - A lot of variation in her content, ranging from internet culture, to (bad) movies, to (bad) tv. I'd recommend her videos on tiktok drama and fake verification. Videos average 10 to 50 minutes.
Tiffany Ferg - Content focused on internet analysis. I'd recommend her videos on concert culture, learned helplessness and tech illiteracy, and 'body trends' and plastic surgery. Videos average from 20 to 40 minutes.
Salem Tovar - Nuanced commentary on internet culture. I'd recommend her videos on gen Z's aesthetic obsession, millennial parenting problems, and filming strangers in public. Videos average from 30 minutes to an hour and a half.
Ro Ramdin - Probably the funniest person on this list, I can't recommend her enough. Videos are thoughtful well edited. I'd recommend her videos on Hogwarts Legacy and financially supporting JK Rowling, the NFT island, the metaverse, and XQC. Videos average 20 to 40 minutes.
Also, misc. video essays: 2010s Pop Feminism: A Painful Look Back, We Need to Talk about TikTok's Obsession with Face Reading and its Dark History, Transphobia: The Far Right and Liberalism, You're Wrong about Modern Art, Who is Killing Cinema? - A Murder Mystery, Transition Regret & the Fascism of Endings, I Debunked Every "Body Language Expert" on Youtube, These Stupid Trucks are Literally Killing Us, How Conservatives Created (and Cancelled) Gender.

i feel like a big missing piece in any conversation about "oh your husband actually hates you, ladies you need to wake up and realize how much these men actually hate you" is that you guys don't understand fundamentalism actually
per exit polls approximately 52% of white women voted for trump, ik that figure differs a little depending on what source you look at but it's always solidly above 50%. fundamentalist white women know that their men hate them. I was raised fundie, my adoptive parents were fundies. I think it was abundantly clear to my mother that our dad didn't love her, probably barely liked her, and barely liked any of us as his kids but to a fundie that isn't even important. all that's important is that you fall under that "familial blood" umbrella because one of fundamentalisms mandates is to have as many children as possible, it doesn't say anything about liking them nor liking your wife. your wife is a means to an end, practically speaking, a tool to be used until it is no longer useful and most of those women were taught the same mandates (seven mountain mandates for anyone unfamiliar) and follow the same beliefs. they're not secretly oppressed, they don't need rescued, in fact they would spit in your face and mace you if you even suggested their husband was in fact a domineering fuck whom they should leave. watch any of them on tiktok, sure they're brainwashed but most of them absolutely love it and actively gloat about it because it whips reactionary libs into a frenzy so they get a high from the fake outrage attention and they get a pat on the back from other "good" fundies for "standing up for traditional values"
think ballerina farms, that woman everyone and their mother just couldn't stop talking about how sad it was and how trapped she was and how tragic it all was that she had to give up her dream and pop out babies. then she comes out and goes "oh actually im fine I love my life and family and you all got played by a journalist with an agenda". but she absolutely did soak up all that sympathy for a good month or two before speaking up about that because it was beneficial to her for a time. that's fundie women to a T. they make the active choice to participate they are not victims in the sense that they just don't understand or don't know what's good for them or were coerced, largely because they believe it will benefit them, but will indulge people's sympathies for attention when it benefits them. none of those "scary" policies in the heritage foundation handbook would affect them, they're doing their part as a good little wife and follower of christianity. the only people with anything to fear are the ones going to hell. that's the usual fundie woman thought process. it doesn't matter if the men hate them, they see it as they get protection out of the arrangement so why bother with all that liberal nonsense? (they don't recognize nor care that in reality there is no protection, not for them or their children, when it comes to the violence of white supremacy and fundamentalism)
so no, it doesn't matter that they're hated because they're aware of that. to them it's a mutually beneficial arrangement at the end of the day, and you get to "own the libs" if you're thirsting for some attention online. and im telling you this so you can start saving your breath. arguing with them online is useless, you could scream until you're blue in the face and it means nothing to them not a single word gets through all that it does is make them feel like they're right, it makes them feel vindicated because "you're attacking family values!". you're not gonna save that fundie woman, she doesn't want saving in fact if she could she'd have you thrown in a 20 ft deep well to be covered with cement and would make a family day of it. your time and energy is better spent on community action, mutual aid, volunteering, and taking care of yourself then it is trying to make any of them "see the light" or whatever because that's a losing battle. and bringing up things like climate change policies also means nothing, the reason they don't care about that is because "if god wanted it fixed it would be fixed". it's as simple as that. that's the answer you'll be met with on most topics, god either will or will not fix it but it's not my responsibility to do anything about it

I had a dream last night that I was scrolling on tiktok and I saw a slideshow and it was "men of dsmp" and it showed them with addressing accusations, except the only person on the slide show was Fundy and all it said was "Strange" and everyone in the comments was being super serious about it and he ended up getting assassinated
I was also the only one who was even a bit upset about it
I went on Twitter and everyone was insulting him by calling him a "Strange omelet"
including his friends

Reminder that people who have been in one high control group tend to end up joining other high control groups (including the guy who developed the BITE model).
Reminder internet movements/communities/pipelines often become high control groups.
Reminder that online communities that demand you at all times police yourself and everyone else around you, and/or sell you a worldview of complete nihilism where people not in the in group are evil or stupid and only you the people in the group Know The Truth and embody Goodness because what the group believes is the only correct way to be Are High Control Groups and if you find yourself in one you should consider getting the fuck out of there.
If it walks like a cult and quacks like a cult, it’s probably a fucking cult.
Flat-earthers/Q-anon/Atlantean/ancient alien conspiracy theorists (all of which are rooted in anti-semitism and most of which originated with the Nazi party) are high control groups, and most of the people in those communities are also in fundie Christian cults.
The ‘rationalists’ who push shit like the imminent evil ai which must be protected against and simulation theory and a Lot of Eugenics and also that one extremely notorious Harry Potter fanfic back in the day are high control groups.
Terfs are a high control group, and so are the community which is basically their inverse: the black-pilled part of the manosphere/incels. Once again most people in those groups are also in or formerly from fundie Christian cults. In the case of terfs, some people in the community genuinely believe that they are progressive and feminist which I find very darkly funny given that the entire terf movement has been proved to be intentionally created and spread by, you guessed it, the same fundamentalist Christian evangelical death cultists who are trying to seize governmental power and proposing anti trans bathroom laws and bans to anything remotely sexual or divisive in internet spaces.
Multi-level-marketing companies form high control groups out of their ‘sales rep’ consumer bases who don’t realize that 96% of them will never make a profit and they’re not supposed to, because they are actually the company’s market. And yes, mlms are incredibly popular with people who are also in a fundie cult, which is why they’re the most popular in the United States in Utah.
And the anti-shipping community is also a high control group which has found extreme purchase in algorithmic rabbitholes on tiktok and twitter. And it’s pretty apparent that most people in that community are either currently in some sort of repressive Christian religious environment or formerly so, given how many of them keep telling people to burn in hell for disagreeing with them.
