Have you ever participated in a spelling bee? It's an exhilarating experience, testing your knowledge of words and challenging your ability to spell them correctly. And if you're a fan of spelling bees, then you'll be thrilled to know that there are alternatives in Catalan! Yes, the beautiful language spoken primarily in Catalonia has its own version of the popular spelling competition. In the Catalan version of the spelling bee, called "paraulogic," participants are given words to spell out loud. Just like in English spelling bees, they can ask for definitions or sentences using the word to help them make an educated guess. But here's where it gets interesting - instead of simply repeating back each letter, participants need to provide a logical breakdown of how each syllable is spelled! Another alternative is "palabreto," which adds an extra layer of challenge by requiring participants not only to spell out each syllable but also provide their origin and meaning. This not only tests their knowledge of Catalan vocabulary but also their understanding of etymology. If you thought those were tricky enough, get ready for "berbaxerka." In this variation, participants must not only spell out each syllable logically but also explain why certain letters or combinations are used and others aren't. Talk about putting your linguistic skills to the test!
Paraulogic
Step into the fascinating world of Paraulogic, where words come alive and spelling takes on a whole new meaning. This unique twist on the traditional spelling bee will challenge even the most seasoned linguists with its Catalan flair. As you dive deeper into this enchanting world of words, you'll find yourself captivated by its intricacies. The beauty of Paraulogic lies in its ability to make you think critically about language while having fun along the way. Are you up for the challenge? It's like a combination of Scrabble and a spelling competition rolled into one! The rules of Palabreto are simple yet challenging. Contestants must create as many words as possible using the provided letters within a specific time limit. The longer the word, the higher the points earned. It truly tests your vocabulary prowess and quick thinking. Imagine the rush of adrenaline as you scramble to form words from jumbled letters within seconds! Palabreto keeps you on your toes, pushing your linguistic abilities to new heights. The best part about Palabreto is that it encourages players to think outside the box and explore different possibilities for word formation. You can unleash your creative side while showcasing your linguistic skills â it's an intellectual adventure! No Body, No Crime [2]
Pairing: Rafe Cameron x Female!Peterkin!Reader
Word Count: 3k+
Warnings: Mentions of Drugs/Alcohol, Swearing, etc
Summary: Rafe is finding himself having trouble trusting Y/N, even after what she did for him.
A/N: Hello! This is the second chapter of No Body, No Crime. Please enjoy and, let me know if youâd like to be on the taglist! <3
ă âË.àŒ ă
The entire drive over to Topper's made you extremely nervous. Your stomach felt as if it was in a knot that couldn't be undone.
It only got worse when you began to recognize the scenery of Figure 8.
It was unusual of you to be so anxious.
Usually, youâre hyper-focused. You donât have time to worry about all the possible things that could go wrong but, Rafe made you feel different.
Typically, the two of you would only interact in passing. Oftentimes in the kitchen at his house when you needed him to help you reach something on the top shelf.
Now, youâre about to see each other in a brand new light. Going from strangers to...
Honestly, you didnât really know how to classify this blossoming relationship, considering it hasnât started yet.
Turning a corner into a neighborhood, you recognized Topper's mansion almost immediately.
It was the second house on the right with pillars and a baby blue door. There were tiny American flags pitched in the yard with small lights showcasing their entrance.
There were so many cars parked on the street and in the driveway that it was nearly impossible for you to get close without clipping a vehicle.
Finding a good spot near the sidewalk, you emerged from your car, making sure to check that it was locked (a habit you learned from your mother).
Drawing closer to the front door, you spotted Rafe.
He was sitting ominously in a rocking chair on the porch, looking out into the yard.
"Hey." You called out. He broke from his intense gaze and glanced at you.
"Shit, I totally forgot that you were coming." He pinched the bridge of his nose, turning his head.
"Well, I'm here so.." You trailed off, taking a seat next to him.
Instantly, Rafe began to draw away from you. You noticed but refrained from commenting on it, not knowing what his problem was.
It wasn't long after that the tension started to fill the air. Youâre usually the one keeping your distance from him, not vice versa.
âAre-Are you going to say anything?â You asked, nervously.
You had no idea what made his energy shift from the last time you spoke to him but, this wasnât the same Rafe that you saw that afternoon.
âWhat do you want me to say?â He replied sharply, glancing over in your direction.
You were taken aback by him, âRafe. You asked me to meet you here. I have no idea what the hell is going on. So, I justâ I wanna know whatâs happening.â
He froze, inhaling deeply. It was clear that he was searching for the right words to say that would get his message across.
âY/N, I donât trust you. You might be Sarahâs best friend but, youâre also the sheriffs' daughter.â His voice was cold and distant.
He genuinely viewed you as some kind of threat. Less than 7 hours ago, he was more than willing to rope you into whatever he had going on, and now, youâre just a burden to him.
You scoffed, âYou seemed pretty happy to get your drugs back this afternoon. Was I the sheriffs' daughter then?â
âI stole from my mom, Rafe. Thatâs not something you just do for fun. Especially when you have a lot to lose on your end, okay. So, if I rat you out, Iâm going down too.â
Guilt instantly flashed behind his blue eyes. It was evident as his features began to soften and he lowered his eyebrows.
He began to speak but, you cut him off, âListen, Rafe, I donât expect us to go out and get matching tattoos anytime soon but, we have to learn to trust each other, or else this thing isnât going to work.â
He chuckled lightly, flashing you a crooked smile, âYeah.â Rafe replied simply.
The loud booming of music coming from inside filled the silence.
âDidnât you graduate high school yesterday?â Rafe asked, quirking his head to the side.
âYeah... I-I did.â You replied, still surprised.
You werenât valedictorian like your mother planned but, you were pretty damn close. Still, it wasnât enough to satisfy Susan Peterkin so, you spent the entirety of graduation sulking.
You didnât even get a chance to enjoy your High School graduation.
A sour taste formed in your mouth as your throat began to get tighter by the second.
Rafe noticed your sudden discomfort, âWell, youâre at a party. Why donât you go inside and have fun? Celebrate the milestone.â
âYou should celebrate too. I mean- finishing your first year of college.â You acknowledged, awkwardly trying to shift the conversation toward him.
âI took a gap year. Too many things to do and not enough time.â He shrugged.
You were so entranced by the way Rafe spoke. He wasnât like you, who felt the need to give the deepest, most profound explanation for everything.
He was simple.
You liked simple.
Standing up, you extended your hand in his direction, âCome on,â you paused, grabbing him by the wrist, âWeâre going inside.â
âNo no no,â he protested, âI already told my friends I was leaving so,â Rafe resisted your grasp, staying firmly in his seat.
âI think we can handle Topper and Kelce.â You scoffed, giving him a playful look.
Rafe knit his eyebrows together, contemplating. It had already been an extremely long night. But, he was having a hard time pulling out the response from his chest.
"Shitttt," He drew out, "What the hell. It'd be nice to see you pull the stick out of your ass and relax."
Eyes lighting up and a smile tugging on your lips, you yanked on his wrist again. This time, he rose from the rocking chair, peering down at you, "Don't make me regret this, Peterkin."
"How could you possibly regret anything when you're with me?" You sent him a sly wink.
Twisting the front-door handle, you entered the Thorton household.
Your senses were instantly triggered. Your ears struggled to determine which was louder, the music or screaming of teenagers. Your eyes reacted to the fluorescent light projected on the ceiling.
The scent was absolutely putrid. Sweaty bodies and alcohol were not a good mixture, not under any circumstances.
"Ugh," Covering your nose with your right hand, you peered back at Rafe. He seemed completely fine.
This was normal for him.
Watching as he maneuvered around this situation with such ease inspired you.
Rafe was a complete mystery to you. Although with every interaction, he became less of a riddle, it was still a challenge trying to figure him out.
Abruptly, someone from behind you yelled, tearing you from your trance, "I said that you'd be back!"
Turning around, you saw Kelce and Topper making their way towards the two of you.
"Yeah, yeah," Rafe responded, playfully, drifting closer to his two friends.
A mere seconds later, Topper noticed you standing at a feeble 1 and a half feet shorter than Rafe.
"Holy shit," He gasped, "A-Are my eyes deceiving me, or is Y/N Peterkin at a party?"
This caught Kelce's attention and, he certainly couldn't resist making a sly comment, "How's your mom? Is she still 6 feet up the Pogues ass or....?"
Scoffing, you began to walk away but, something caught your shoulder.
"Listen, she's a bitch but, not as nearly as much as you think." Rafe defended.
You couldn't help but laugh, âThanks.â
Yes, it was a shitty, backhanded compliment. But, it was coming from Rafe Cameron so, that's the best you're gonna get.
"Yeah, I'll believe it when I see it," Commented Kelce, turning his head to look around at the scenery.
âRafe,â Topper paused, âAre you trying to get even more fucked up tonight?â
Glancing at Rafe, you noticed how tired he looked. Drooping eyes and hunched shoulders gave away how he was feeling.
âNo, he has other priorities on his mind.â You chimed in.
âOhhhhhhhh.â Kelce raised his eyebrows.
Wiggling two fingers between the two of you, âAre you guys....? You know?â
âShut the fuck up, Kelce. Youâre a goddamned idiot.â Rafe rolled his eyes, pushing his friend lightly.
âRelax. Iâm not gonna swoop in on your girl. Just curious who youâre fucking this week.â
Glancing up at Rafe, he appeared extremely fed up with the current conversation.
âCome on, man,â Topper said, pulling Kelce by the shoulder, âLetâs leave these two alone. Iâm sure theyâve got loads of shit to catch up on.â
The two walked out of the entryway, side by side, and floated right back into the epicenter of the party.
âWhy do you do that?â You questioned, almost instantly.
Looking in your direction, he responded, âWhat are you talking about?â
Sighing, you began, âYou willingly hang out with Dumb and Dumber,â
âYou could be surrounded by people that are on the same intellectual level as you. Yet, you surround yourself with people like those 2 that are only interested in being so high that they canât remember their name.â
Rafe shook his head, âIt doesnât matter.â
There he goes again. Being simple. Summing up everything he has to say in a mere 3 words.
"He deserves better than that." You thought but didn't say.
In your head, you could see Rafe walking away from the conversation and, you wanted him as close as possible (because you're not used to parties.... no other reason.... of course).
"This is stressing me out," You commented jokingly, running your hands through your hair.
If you weren't so hyperaware of your surroundings, you would've missed the way that Rafe was glancing at you.
He looked as if he was trying to decipher what was going on in your head.
âCome on.â He nodded his head in the direction of the living room (aka where 90% of the party-goers were).
You grinned slightly, âI was deprived of partying my entire 4 years of High School. I donât think I should start now.â
You turned around and sat on the love seat in the Thornton entryway.
âYou dragged me back in here so, the least you could do is sway your hips to some shitty music.â
âMaybe.â You smirked, teasing him.
âAlright, Iâll find Topper and Kelce. Iâm sure theyâve got something interesting for me.â Rafe began to exit the room.
âFine,â you rose from your seat immediately, catching his attention.
You shook your head in disapproval, âSo manipulative.â
A smug look was plastered on Rafeâs face, âYeah, well.... it worked.â
He shrugged and sent you a smirk.
ă âË.àŒ ă
You had never felt so free in your entire life.
It was surprising that such a wild atmosphere made you feel a sense of comfort and enjoyment, rather than fear and anxiety.
Maybe it was the fact that you clung to Rafe for the majority of the time.
He was such a social hotspot.
People of all ages and demographics were speaking to him. He kept the conversations brief and, it was clear that he wasn't very interested.
Nevertheless, he was dragged into a game of beer pong, and (with the help of Topper and Kelce) he agreed to play BUT, only if you did.
At first, you were hesitant, having no idea how to play but, there was something inside of you that hated the thought of saying no to Rafe.
You indulged him and decided to play, with the exception that you didn't drink, considering that you had to drive back home to the Cut.
It took a few tries for you to actually get the hang of things but, Rafe helped a lot.
He would often adjust your form, wrapping his arm around your waist and tugging you in another direction.
It made you nervous yet excited having him in such close proximity to you, whispering in your ear which direction to throw the ball.
Ultimately, the two of you ended up winning against Topper and Kelce (who were pissed that they lost to such an inexperienced player).
That was the beginning of the fun.
After that, you didn't feel the need to cling to Rafe as tight as you had been before.
You went off and had conversations with people that didn't go to your High School, which also meant they had no clue who your mother was.
You used to be extremely familiar with Figure 8 and you often found yourself missing it from time to time.
It was very nice to be able to surround yourself with people that weren't foaming at the mouth to run and tell your mother everything they saw.
It wasn't until you began to dance, swaying your hips to the beat that Rafe found you again.
"Y/N, I--I need a ride home." He began, speaking in a low but rushed tone.
"What?!" You yelled, not being able to hear him over the music.
You took a glance at him and, he looked horrible.
His eyes were extremely red and he reeked of alcohol and plenty of other illegal substances.
Not only that but, Rafe seemed extremely jittery. Almost as if something bad was going to happen if he didn't leave immediately.
Seeing the stress of the situation, you gripped Rafe by the arm and tugged him out of the hectic scene and into the nearest quiet room.
Finding a bathroom right before the kitchen, the two of you entered.
You sat him on the edge of the tub, crouching in front of him.
"Rafe," You paused, clutching the sides of his face, "Look at me. What's going on?"
Opening his eyes, he began to speak, "Please, just, please. Take me home." He buried his head into your shoulder.
You were stunned by his actions, having no idea what drug he took that made him act like that.
But, now was not the time to question Rafe, he needed your help and after all the progress the two of you made that evening, you weren't going to leave him behind.
"O-okay, okay. Yes, I'll take you home."
You stood up, continuing to hold his arm, afraid that he'd fall back into the tub.
"Rafe, can you stand? Can you walk?" You asked.
He nodded then rose, towering over you.
"Here," You directed him towards the sink, "Splash some cold water onto your face, okay?"
He did as you told him, gathering a scoop of water in his palms and splattered it onto his face.
After, he seemed slightly more coherent but, not nearly enough.
The two of you emerged from the bathroom. You were still clung to his arm, leading him in the direction of the exit.
Once, you left the inside of the house, you were bombarded with cars from all angles.
It then hit you that you had to park on the street.
As you led Rafe down the infinitely long driveway, you cursed in your head, upset at the universe for making you work against gravity in order to keep him from face-planting.
Finally, making it to your car, you reached in your pocket and unlocked it.
Opening the door to the passenger's side, you plopped Rafe in the seat and buckled him in.
You ran around the front of the car, trying to get back to Rafe as soon as possible.
"Rafe, do you have everything? Your phone, wallet, keys?"
"Mhm." He replied, setting his head on the back of the seat.
With that, you took one last glance at Rafe and put the car in drive.
ă âË.àŒ ă
Pulling into the driveway, you noticed that the Cameron household was quiet.
The only light coming from inside was the glare of the TV from Wheezie's room.
"Rafe, we're here." You said, shaking him. He had fallen asleep seconds after you started driving.
He didn't waste any time getting out of the car. Unbuckling his seatbelt and opening the door, he headed in the direction of the garage.
As he approached, it opened.
"I know they're rich but, damn, motion detected garage?" You commented, continuing to watch, making sure Rafe made it inside safely.
It wasn't until you started saw him stop that you noticed a figure standing in front of him.
It was Ward Cameron.
"Shit."
You knew Ward was going to give Rafe crap for staying out late, partying so, the least you could do was try and cover for him.
Emerging from your car, you walked towards the garage.
"Rafe, I need you to do it, okay? I don't want Sarah getting involved-" You caught the end of what Ward was saying before he stopped.
"Y/N!" He greeted, a smile on his face.
"Hey, Mr.Cameron." You waved awkwardly, sending a forced smile.
"Thank you so much for bringing this one home," He grabbed Rafe by the shoulder, pulling him into a side hug.
"No problem! I just needed his help with some things. The least I could do was take him home." You replied.
"Yeah, yeah," Ward nodded his head, looking back at the door.
"Listen, Y/N, thanks for putting in a good word with your mom. We really appreciate it."
"I'm sorry?" You knit your eyebrows in confusion.
"I got a call from the station today saying the charges against Rafe had been dropped. All of us are so thrilled that we can resume a normal life and move past this." He placed a hand on his chest.
You had no idea what he was talking about. Your mom wasn't home yet. There was no way she could've seen the drugs had been taken from her safe yet.
But, you had to play it cool, not wanting Ward to ask any questions "Sure, sure." you answered.
"Okay, welp," He paused, "Have a nice night, Y/N. Come by tomorrow and see us." Ward finished, hurridly.
With that, he turned around swiftly and went back inside his house, through the garage door.
That entire interaction was odd. You had never seen Ward act so tense.
Also, you couldn't help but wonder what was so urgent that Sarah couldn't do?
It had been less than 24 hours and, you're already wrapped up in things you couldn't begin to comprehend.
"I need to sleep."
Walking back to your car, you entered the driver's seat.
Putting the car in reverse, you exited the Cameron house and began your journey back to the Cut.

V: âI have a desire to perfect one cool thing about myselfâ
As heâs being interviewed, V speaks his mind at a relaxed pace. But there was one moment where he kept on speaking without taking a breath. Look for that moment in the interview below. You listen to a lot of old music on vinyl. Has any particular artistâs music excited you since your last interview with Weverse Magazine? V: I was listening to Louis Armstrongâs music again. And I picked up some albums with a pretty jacket thatâs also got a lot of really good hits on it.
How do you feel when youâre listening to those classics? V: I feel like Iâm beginning to relax a bit. If I listen to a song when Iâm feeling depressed and then really get thinking, the things that are frustrating me disappear, and I can feel myself becoming more peaceful. And it makes me picture things in my head. For example, some songs might make me think of seeing something in front of me while walking down the road somewhere at night when I listen to them. I think setting the mood for listeners is the most important thing. The mood will presumably be different for everyone, but for me, those songs are the ones that are good at setting a really beautiful mood in the moment.
You said that you got inspiration from artists of the past like Sammy Davis Jr. for your performance in âDynamite.â Was there any artist who inspired you for âButterâ? V: Well, there was Billy Joel. When I shoot a music video, I think of a movie more than any one artist. And when I perform on stage, for some songs I think of the way movies like Reservoir Dogs look. For âButter,â I watched a lot of teen movies. And musicals. After that I randomly ended up seeing a video on YouTube of some scenes from an old teen movie Johnny Depp did [which turned out to be the movie Cry-Baby]. The image I got from that was really intense. Thatâs the look I used in âButter.â
âButterâ felt like a teen musical to me and now I know why. V: I did it like a teen musical, just like you say. When we shot the âButterâ music video, I really, really tried to shoot the part in the elevator so it would feel like a teen movie. Although a lot of takes were edited, so not all of itâs there. (laughs)
What kind of feeling do you get from that kind of teen movie that you find so charming? V: For me, teen movies show a youthfulness thatâs appropriate for the age. I think thereâs an appropriate mix of emotion, energy, and a completely different and peculiar mood that everyone necessarily experiences at that age. If you watch teen movies, theyâre overflowing with energy and full of sunny emotion, but behind it all theyâre not as bright as they seem. They are really bright, but the color itself almost feels like some kind of filter. They feel like they have a different filter than other movies, so I tried thinking of teen movies when we shot the music video and put on performances.
That teen movie feeling seems to be divided in two between âButterâ and âPermission to Dance.â By the looks of the thumbnails for the fancam focus videos uploaded to the BANGTANTV YouTube channel, âButterâ seems to showcase a really cool character, while âPermission to Danceâ is more teenagers smiling brightly for children. V: The teen movie vibe in âButterâ and âPermission to Danceâ are different from one another. We showed the sunny image people usually think of when they think of teen movies in âPermission to Dance.â
Do you think that going with the teen movie vibe influenced your vocals to be the new style that you used? In âButter,â you still had your signature vocals but without the deep notes, giving them a new feeling. V: Thatâs because, when weâre given a concept, we have to come up with vocals that fit with the concept. I think my singing style matched up with the concept, so I feel relatively satisfied. There was nothing majorly difficult about actually changing the style itself, since unlike changing your voice, you only have to change your vocal technique. Having said that, even though the notes in âButterâ were high for me, I still hit them! (laughs)
I guess hitting the high notes was your assignment this time around as a vocalist. V: Iâve been working a long time to make up for my weak points. For example, I thought I was weak when it comes to high notes because I sing low parts a lot and I tend to sing in a flowing way. But I had trouble when we were recording âDynamiteâ and I had to sing the high notes during the chorus. I got so mad (laughs) so I practiced a lot.
How does it feel to see the results youâre seeing with âButterâ now after all that effort? V: Iâm just trying not to rest on my laurels. Like instead of savoring the feeling, I feel like I should go to bed early for everything I have to do the next day? Getting back in tiptop shape quickly is whatâs important, so I havenât really had time to bask in the joy very much. Iâm just working hard at the work I had like I always do.In yourÂ
New Yearâs greeting on YouTube, you said you regretted not being able to put on the show for ARMY you wanted, and that your 2021 resolution is to âfollow my own pace and patternâ when you work on music. Do you think your personal pace and your professional pace are in step this year? V: No. [My professional pace is] fast, so fast. (laughs) We have a lot we have to get ready for since weâre always promoting. It can be challenging sometimes, but in a way, I think itâs also given me a good opportunity to become a little stronger.
I imagine itâs meaningful to do the work for your own songs, because you can slip into your own world. You also made âBlue & Greyâ when you were having a hard time, and it consequently became a song that allowed you to empathize with many people and vice versa. Looking back now, what kind of song do you think âBlue & Greyâ will be remembered as? V: I think with âBlue & Greyâ I just wanted the song to let people know how I was feeling, and how we were feeling, at that time a little better. Obviously everyone was having a hard time, but I think I wanted to share those emotions with ARMY as-is, including the pains we went through in our growth process. And, to put it another way, I think I just felt like making it obvious. (laughs) I thought it was okay to be that obvious, seeing as I couldnât put those feelings into words. I just hope people could understand how I was feeling; itâs okay if it becomes forgotten later on.
In the âBE-hind Storyâ interview on YouTube, you talked about the first line of âBlue & Greyâ: âWhere is my angel?â You explained how, when you have any kind of issue, you close your eyes and wish for your angel to come and think. Are there times when it seems like your angel understands your feelings, as you just mentioned? V: I get a ton of answers by doing it. Iâm not religious, but whenever I have some kind of issue, I close my eyes and think about it. Is this right, the way Iâm thinking about this, or not? Theyâre just yes or no questions, like, Does my outfit look good today? Instead of just worrying about what you should do, if you tackle it in the form of a question, you  get a response with the answer.
I guess it could work when youâre looking for inspiration in your life, but what about for your music? In your previous Weverse Magazine interview, you said you make a note whenever you feel something. V: I write in my diary in hopes that itâll help with writing lyrics and so I donât forget those feelings. I do it constantlyâI open up my diary whenever something comes up. I copy melodies that pop up in my mind, lyrics, and other things from my diary to my notes app temporarily, and when Iâm taking a break or I get the urge to work, I open my notes and say, Letâs try this out today, and run over to the studio.
You released âSnow Flower,â featuring Peakboy by V, on Christmas Day. Is that another song you ran to the studio to work on after the feeling came to you? V: For that song, when I was drinking with some older musicians, we were talking about doing a song together, and then we were like, Well, do you think weâll have time to do that? So we decided to do it right then since everyone was available. My mixtape was delayed, so I at least wanted to play a different song for ARMY, and I thought, since Iâm a bit tipsy (laughs) I thought I should try writing something. So I made the song really quickly. In maybe three hours.
Even though you made it quickly, the composition is somewhat complex and it has the same unique atmosphere that âBlue & Greyâ did. V: Thereâs times when Iâm, like, in the zone (laughs) and can make a song all in one sitting, but when Iâm not feeling it, I end up revising it more and more. And I donât want the composition to be too obvious, so I try to change up the way the melody flows. With that kind of sharp image coming to you almost immediately, what were you imagining for that song? V: You might think âSnow Flowerâ is about a type of snowflake, but I was actually thinking about snow and flowers separately. I started hoping that flowers wouldnât wither away and just keep on blooming on snowy days. But in reality, when it snowed, all the flowers were crushed, the world became blanketed in snow, and I felt like the flower buds turned into snow flowers. I wrote that song about how I felt after watching that happen.
It must be important to feel things intuitively when youâre trying to express yourself through song. V: If it sounds pretty to me: approved. (laughs)
On the other hand, as a member of BTS, you have a job where you have to deal with a packed schedule and keep various situations in mind. How does that make you feel? When you celebrated your Billboard Hot 100 win on V LIVE and the topic of your clothes came up, you joked that you wore them to give off an idol vibe. V: Itâs fun. Itâs fun, but I could also say itâs hard. The performances are fun. I think idols should shine in a way thatâs suitable for their age, and itâs important to do lots of things for fans like ARMY. Not just performances, but also posting pictures, having conversations on social media, making content. Weâre artists and idols, so we think each and every one of those things is important. That sentiment wonât change just because weâve achieved so much success.
You recently held an impromptu event on Weverse for ARMY. V: Iâm sure thereâs lots of ARMY out there who are tired of not being able to see us in person. But since the only thing we can do for them is to be on stage and stuff, I was worried that weâre not doing enough for them. And I love being able to talk with ARMY so much that now itâs like a habit that I read their posts. I have a thing today. I have a test today. Iâm moving today. Somehow I feel better when I hear their stories. When I end up reading things like about how ARMY are living or what kind of lives ARMY have, I canât help but write a response, and because of that ARMY respond, so I try to become friendlier in a more fun way, too. I want us to be more than the Billboard number one BangtaniesâI want to be ARMYâs partner, their best friend, the friend whoâs always by their side when weâre not on stage. It feels like business when I talk about communicating with ARMY. (laughs) I just want to talk with a close friend. I wanna talk with a close friendâthatâs exactly how I feel. Itâs been a long time since I could see my friend, ARMY. Usually when friends canât see each other they keep in touch all the time. I can talk about all kinds of things like that with ARMY thanks to the Weverse platform, and because I can hear all about their lives, I think I was able to go on Weverse and hold that kind of event.
Youâve been talking about ARMY nonstop for a few minutes. I was going to ask you how you feel about ARMY, but I think you already answered the question. (laughs) V: Theyâre just, well, friends I would hate to lose. Friends who seriously give me strength whenever theyâre around. Sometimes you find friends like that in life. Itâs like that with the other members, and I have other friends who I can share my feelings with. And I have ARMY. So I canât help but do whatever I can do to make those people smile and make them feel happy.
Well then, is there a song youâve heard that you want to let ARMY know about? A song that shares your feelings. V: Umm, recently ⊠âNo. 1 Party Anthemâ by Arctic Monkeys. When I hear that song ⊠I get emotional, somehow. I donât usually listen to a lot of rock music, but I can instantly feel the bandâs emotions with that song. I seriously get goosebumps listening to it, and emotional, and just all kinds of feelings. Itâs to the point that, as soon as I hear that song, I think about how I really want to live well.
That song really means a lot to you. V: Actually, I donât really know whatâs up with that song. I donât even know the lyrics, but Iâm quite clear on what sort of emotions the melody and the bandâs performance give me.
Donât you feel like thatâs an emotion you want to express to people, as an artist? Like you donât have to explain your messages in detail? V: I donât know. I just want to exchange the good, and be the one to embrace the bad. So I have a desire to perfect one cool thing about myself.
So how close do you think you are right now to becoming an artist who has perfected something cool? V: Iâll say 2%. Itâll go up someday later. (laughs)

episode 1: đđ«đđ§đź đđŁđđđĄ đŁđđđđš đ đšđ€đŁđ
having completed all their challenges for week one it is time for the angels to face the music. with their votes in and team performances judged their final rankings decide who will continue on to become apart of đđđđđđ. will your favourite angel soar high or will they fall from grace ?
* note that indented + italic text like this means it is confessional footage *
the iconic seraph intro music played as the cameras focused on the show hosts nova and yen.
âgood evening everyone and welcome to...â nova began before yen joined in âseraph!â they chorused.
âthis week was a tough first week for our angels.â yen began before looking over at nova who enthusiastically nodded along . âthey had 2 challenges to complete: the iconic angel song and a group performance.â
âhaving to juggle solo performances and group work proved to be quite difficult for some of our angels. both groups had their share of mishaps...â behind nova clips of the angels in their confessionals in tears or looking stressed covered the screen further proving her statement.
âbut despite all of this we saw some amazing performances.â nova grinned as she turned back to all the angels on the platform behind her.
âjudges, what do you think of our angels this week? who stood out the most to you?â yen questioned turning all focus to the panel of judges.
âi thought this week was fun, we got to see a different side to the angels usual concepts,â hyuna spoke first , making sunmi and j-hope nod along with her. âi personally really enjoyed rickyâs performance, it was so fun to watch. her expressions made it that much more entertaining.â
the camera focused on ricky as she bowed at the praise. her features stretched out in a bright smile as chloe squeezed her hand beside her happy for her new best friend.
âi think mine was yuriâs performance of âGOTTA GOâ. she surprised me in a good way. i was not expecting her to stand out the way she did but iâm glad she did. iâm proud of her.â sunmi answered.
on stage yuri visibly blushed as she repeatedly bowed. her soft âthank youâ making sunmi smile sweetly.
âhmmm all the angels were truly excelled this week ,â j-hope chuckled , resting his head on his hand. ânone of the performances were boring. did some have room for growth in technique terms? of course, but pretty much everyone performed well.â
âyeah, yeah, yeah. who was your favourite?â hyuna jokingly pushed making everyone laugh.
âif i had to pick i think my favourite would be summerâs cover of âDAREâ. her lines were clean and moves sharp. it was great to see her do a much darker concept. you can tell why she is where she is.â
summer nodded happily as a response to j-hopeâs comments. she had always been a huge fan of BTS and it took everything within her not to fangirl hearing her idol praise her for her performance.
âwhat about the groups what did you think?â nova questioned once again.
the judges shared a look with each other before hyuna leaned into her mic, âhonestly group one really surprised us this week. im really impressed with their performance of âFAKE LOVEâ.â the idol leaned forward to be in her fellow judgeâs line of sight. âj-hope, was it up to standard?â
âit was definitely up to standard they really destroyed the performance. i feel honoured truly.â he chuckled
the entirety of group one laughed at his comment. each of the angels thanking him in their own regard, their pride evident in their faces the entire time. in juxtaposition the camera pans to team two whoâs faces look less than impressed with
âoverall, iâd say everyone did great today, yes there is definitely room for improvement but and i donât think iâd be wrong if i said all us judges are proud of every single one of the angels on a successful first week,â sunmi concluded. hyuna and j-hope hummed in agreement and nodded along to every word she said. she sent the angels a reassuring thumbs up to try soothe the obvious nerves of all the angels on stage.
incase you missed it !
[ WATCH SOLO PERFORMANCES â HERE ]
[ WATCH GROUP PERFORMANCES â HERE ]
the lights dimmed as the entire mood of the studio shifted.
âeven though all our angels deserve to soar high sadly for one angel their wings will be cut.â nova spoke, her serious tone emphasizing the tension in the studio.
âbefore we show the results hereâs a refresher on how voting works: you have been voting all week for your favourite angel and those votes contribute 50 points each. these points are added to the group points.â she looked over at yen to signal her to say her next lines.
âbut todayâs episode has a special twist,â yen turned to the camera with a pause. âtwo angels will be going home today.â behind the hosts the angels heads snapped up in panic. none of them were aware of the double elimination.
âthe first will be the angel with the lowest rank from the losing team, and the other will be the angel with the lowest overall ranking, even if sheâs part of the winning team sheâll leave the show today.â
the silence in the studio was deafening. none of the angels dared say a word as they waited in anticipation for the results. the angels stood in the groups as they linked hands to give each other support.
âwithout further ado, letâs see the results.â nova spoke directing everyoneâs eyes to the screen where everyoneâs rankings were plastered.
đđđđŒđđ đđđđ đđđ : đđđđŒđ đđŒđđđđđ

BAEBI - 1450 ( @whileinvenus )
YURI - 1300 ( @cube-vivid )
SUMMER - 1150 ( @se4sonz )
MIMI - 900 ( @inter-stellar-jyp )
RICKY - 850 ( @unholiied )

EDEN - 750 ( @inter-stellar-jyp )
JADE - 750 ( @nct-krown )
AME - 700 ( @triptychexe )
DAHLIA - 650 ( @d3adfl0wers )
JAY - 500 ( @dulcetgg )
yuri brought her hands to her mouth, frozen in shock.
âi was not expecting to make it another week honestly,â she spoke in disbelief. âafter being outshined by ricky all week, i thought it was over but here i am!â she giggled covering her mouth to hide the broad smile taking over her features.
baebi hugged her excitedly. her smile not only reflecting her pride in yuriâs high rank but also her own first place rank. pushing aside her dissatisfaction with their team losing she still was proud of what theyâd done.
the same positivity was not felt as dahlia and jade saw the score board. as their team came last they knew someone was in jeopardy of going home but neither of them wouldâve guessed it would be dahlia.
frozen in shock jade turned to dahlia whoâs hand had flown up to her mouth as her eyes welled up. jade made quick movement to comfort dahlia before she fully broke down.
âdonât let them see you cry you know this says nothing about your talent or potential.â she whispered into dahliaâs ear. the older girl nodded along with jadeâs words as she took deep breaths. as much as she was balanced now it still didnât feel fair.
âdahlia doesnât deserve this. she is one of the most talented girls here.â jade folded her arms as she turned her head to the side. âi canât believe dahlia is gone and voice crack ricky is in the top 5. it doesnât feel right.â
on the other team the girls huddle in an excited hug at their teams first place ranking. their teams ranking is what saved ame that week and she knew it. she had the second lowest rank of her team aside from jay who unfortunately had the least votes that week overall.
âat least some people voted for meâ, she spoke to the camera as she let out a sigh. âiâll just have to work extra hard next week,â she nodded as she encourage herself, trying her best to maintain the smile on her face no matter what.
in contrast to the rest of the girls , jay couldnât keep her facade up. despite the positive energy around her she couldnât stop the silent sobs that left her. she didnât want her journey to end so abruptly, she deserved to stay longer mimi hanged her tightly as she let the taller girl cry into her shoulder. her eyes glossed over along with jays as she knew she was going to miss her, jay was one of the girls sheâd grown closest to besides eden.
âiâm obviously going to miss jay,â mimi spoke softly wiping away at her tears. âsheâs so talented iâm so sad to see her go. this week didnât showcase her charms to the fullest,â she shook her head sadly as she sniffled.
the two eliminated girls took a step forward standing center stage as the judges said their last words.
âdahlia, how are you feeling?â nova asked as her teammates lovingly rubbed her back.
taking a deep breath dahlia spoke into the mic that was handed to her. âiâm obviously disappointed. our group didnât go as planned and i just feel like i didnât get to fully showcase what iâm capable of.â she sniffles loudly towards the end as she tried her best to hold in her tears.
âdahlia, youâre a talented girl. it's sad because it really felt as if you didnât know why you were here, i couldnât feel your passion and you need that to sell a performance.â sunmi spoke her eyebrows furrowed and lips downturned.
dahlia nodded, a sad tight lipped smile on her features as she handed to mic back. she was so focused on the rest of the team not messing up as well as feeling cheated out of the roll of main vocalist played against her. and it was too late to try again all she could do is find the spark that once lit a flame of passion in her and try again outside the show.
âjay,â j-hope sighed as the tall girl bowed her head unable to even look at the judges. âitâs sad seeing you go,â he admitted with a pout. âbut i think itâs because you just havenât found your sparkle yet and i think thatâs something you have to do outside of âseraphâ. but donât give up and keep up the good work , and Iâm sure youâll be the next big thing.â all jay could do was nod, even having been handed the mic she couldnât speak a word.
the focus shifted from the bottom 2 girls to ame who although safe still looked as distraught as the other angels.
âame, you were so close to the bottom this week,â hyuna pointed out to which ame nodded her face sullen and disappointed. âyou got lucky tonight but donât let your guard down,â she pointed at the girl, giving her a knowing look. âsomething needs to change or youâll be the next to say goodbye.â she warned. ame nodded once again taking a respectful bow.
the cameras focused back on the two hosts as the girls regrouped behind them.
the two girls descended the platform. dahlia wrapped her arm around jay as she still sobbed uncontrollably. the two made their way off stage waving to the remaining angels before exiting the studio completely and making their way to the dorms to pack up their belongings.
âitâs always sad to see and angel take off, especially so early in the show,â yen sighed sadly. nova hummed in agreement,â but sadly thatâs how the show goes.â
âbut letâs not focus on only the negatives but some positives. ladies and gentlemen give it up for our remaining 10 angels!â nova cheered making the studio erupt in excited claps and cheers. âcongratulations girls youâve made the top 10 out of hundreds of applicants!â the girls cheered once again as their moods lifted a significant amount compared to the somber mood earlier.
âthatâs it for this episode! stay tuned to see how the angels spread their wings and soar through weekly challenges and compete to be a part of the ultimate super group !â yen ran over her signature closing line once again, sharing a sweet smile with her cohost
âthanks to everyone who participated and weâll see you next week !â nova chimed in mirroring yenâs bright smile.
âgoodbye !â they chorused as the 2 hosts waved at the camera before it zoomed out to focus on everyone in the studio.

Who Else Will I Have Da-Chao Beans With?
With a brand-new PlayStation 5, lovingly dubbed Seto Kaiba, now in my grasp I was excited to try out Final Fantasy 7 Remake: Intergrade. In particular, the downloadable content (DLC) featuring everyoneâs favourite materia hunter: Yuffie Kisaragi. Yes, you heard it right. I suffered through disappointment and numerous attempts of trying to put my name down on a PlayStation 5 waitlist just so that I could play a $30 add-on. I mean, itâs not the first time that Iâve willingly put down money to enjoy more of the story, but itâs a rare occurrence.
With that out of the way, please know that this impression of INTERmission will be filled with spoilers. I know this post wonât go up until August but considering how hard it is to still get consoles, wellâŠyouâve been warned.
In contrast to Cloudâs stoic and no-nonsense attitude, Yuffie is a breath of fresh air. Right from the gates, her narration in a bid to impress the members of Avalanche that arenât even present is a joy and delight. True, sheâs younger than our main character, but she has seen a lot of things. The conflict between Wutai and Shinra back in the good old days of Crisis Core are very much part of the lore in the expanded Final Fantasy 7 universe.
In fact, our favourite puppy of the series, Zack Fair, also got to meet the rising ninja star of Wutai during the conflict.
But Iâm getting off-topic. Back to INTERmission.
After traversing the wastelands around Sector 7, Yuffie finally reaches the slums before the plate has fallen. Once she has arrived, she meets up with the members of AVALANCHE. Except, of course, theyâre not the ones that we know and love. Enter Zhijie, Nayo, Polk and Billy Bob.
As for Jessie, Biggs and Wedge? All three were located around the slums. Jessie was seated in front of Seventh Heaven (which Yuffie could not enter), Wedge enjoyed the company of many cats and Biggs was idling by not too far from the others. All of them were interactable but their dialogue essentially boiled down to: stop bothering me. I did like, however, being able to play the board game: Fort Condor with at least two of them. AND UTTERLY DESTROYED THEM WHILE I WAS AT IT.
Chadley too, made an appearance â this time offering a battle with Ramuh and also being the GRANDMASTER of the Fort Condor board games.
By the by, the Fort Condor minigame is probably quite reminiscent of the auto-battles that have gained popularity. Three towers to be defended, summonable unitsâŠ
Iâve never played any of the auto-battles but it does seem fun. For a short while at least. And as a minigame within a game.
Once I had explored the slums to my heartâs content, it was back to the story missions. Enter Sonon. As soon as he appeared, I knew that things would not end well. After all, Yuffie did not have a companion when you met her as an optional side character. And in every other iteration: from Advent Children to Dirge of Cerberus, he was never present.
But though I knew his time would be limited, he brought excellent banter to the adventure and served as an excellent support to Yuffie. Even if the brother-sister connection was a little ham-fisted with Yuffie reminding the warrior of his own sister: Melphi. Still, despite the way the developers bungled the immediate connection, I didnât mind. Yuffie, after all, was on a mission to nab the greatest and ultimate materia right from under Shinraâs nose.
It is important to know that while not much changes in the way of combat, Yuffie does play quite a bit different from the other main characters. In fact, she can fight both close-up and at range with her ninjutsu arts. Another change to the formula is that you cannot change to Sonon. Only Yuffie can be controlled â though you can give commands to Sonon and have him perform abilities and spells.
Then, of course, thereâs also the synergy aspect wherein Sonon and Yuffie would combine their attacks to deal additional damage. It was fun experimenting with the system and showed how versatile the combat system could be.
Once they enjoyed a trip chasing Zhijie to obtain High-D cards that would allow them to slip into Shinra Headquarters, it was back to the slums to see Tifa and Barret return without SOLDIER-boy Cloud Strife. What I loved about this moment was that we also got to see a private conversation between Tifa and Barret that did not feature in the first game or in the Remake run. Seeing the aftermath of Cloud falling down into the slums below and how it had impacted both Tifa and Barret was a great character moment. And it also helped serve to explain the reason why Tifa ended up in Wall Market in the first place.
With that moment out of the way, our heroes Yuffie and Sonon head to Shinra headquarters. As they slip into the elevator, they are joined by Scarlet: Head of Weapons Development. From there, the game becomes a gauntlet of battles. Itâs not the most thrilling chapter to experience but it does showcase how well the Wutaians fight and the innate teamwork between Yuffie and Sonon.
This new piece of downloadable content, however, is not satisfied to simply end matters here, however. When Scarlet is defeated (and even in defeat sheâs assessing how best to finetune her machines of war), she activates DEEPGROUND. For the first time in a long while, I got to see Weiss the Immaculate and Nero the Sable.
While I may not have played Dirge of Cerberus, I did watch ALL the walkthroughs that I could find on YouTube back in my younger years. I watched Vincent Valentine grapple with his past and finally learn to control the power within.
That aside, the new threat that Nero presented was a challenge. With his arms strapped to his chest in a straitjacket, he reminded me of Anima Aeon from Final Fantasy X. But it was his darkness powerset that gave me all the Kingdom Hearts vibes. If I have to hear âDarknessâ again in anything, I think I might have to scream.
Beyond these few nitpick moments, I felt that Sononâs death was a little overdone. Particularly for a character that had only been fighting beside us for only a few short moments. Donât get me wrong, the developers tried their best to sell it: the swell in the orchestra, the use of copious flashbacksâŠ
Still, the pain expressed by Yuffie (which was then followed by the Sector 7 plate falling) was enough to sell a bit of the horror.
My only question though is: WHAT IS NERO GOING TO DO WITH SONONâS BODY?
From there, the credits rolled and we caught a glimpse of Yuffie out in the wilds, on a chocobo and humming. As a side note, does everyone know the chocobo theme song? Is it a piece of canonical music within the game universe that is associated with chocobos? Like, is it used in advertisement for chocobos? I NEED TO KNOW!
We also get to see Barret, Tifa, Aerith and Cloud traipsing along on the road to Kalm. Better than that, we see Zack in his alternate dimension reaching the church in the Sector 5 slums, debating how best to reintroduce himself to his fair flower lady. Where is his version of Cloud in all this? Why are there so many people in the church? How does this whole dimension/ alternate timeline thing work?
Once again, the Final Fantasy 7 Remake left me with more questions than answers. Though I never played the original, over the years, I had scoured the wiki sites to learn as much as I could. And though I knew the plot beats, the creative directors and script writer have kept things close to the vest â tantalising me with the prospect of what is to come.
I still need a slap fight between Scarlet and Tifa, okay! It had better be in there!

KSD NOTE: there is a mention of suicide in regards to the beginning of Adore You.
On November 18, 2019, a website promoting a mysterious place called Eroda (âNo Land Quite Like Itâ) arrived on the internet. Two days later, the official Twitter account for this fictional frown-shaped island began teasing local seaside attractions. You may have missed it, depending on which corners of the internet you choose to lurk, but not if you were a Harry Styles fan, a group that went into pure overdrive trying to figure out what it all meant.
I, for one, missed it at the time. I was unaware this account was cryptically quote tweeting fans as they tried to piece together what was happening, what it meant, and what it could be connected to (Greek Mythology and Lost were a couple of theories posed in comments, Twitter threads, and Reddit). Meanwhile, the Columbia Records marketing department had been hard at work for months, devising this specific and highly-detailed campaign around the music video for Stylesâ second single, âAdore Youâ from his second solo album, Fine Line, ever since he shot the video in Scotland in August 2019 (Eroda = Adore backwards â clever!).
But it was all leading up to the morning of Friday, December 6 when the video was released, one week before the full-length album arrived. Up until that point, I had never seen an entire Harry Styles music video, but what happened next was inevitable. Somehow, as a self-proclaimed boy band scholar, I had never paid much attention to One Direction. I kept a distant eye on Styles since they disbanded, intrigued by the decisions he was making in his solo career. But I hadnât yet realized Iâd been in the ring all throughout the fall of 2019, fighting to resist the inevitable fascination that awaited. First came the jab of Rob Sheffieldâs Rolling Stone profile, followed by the cross of âLights Upâ, a song that cracked my Top 20 most listened to songs of the year despite being released just two months before Spotify so thoughtfully compiled that personalized playlist. Then there was the hook of his SNL hosting stint in November (and bless you Bowen Yang for that Sara Lee sketch), which then leads us to the âAdore Youâ video, the uppercut and ultimate TKO. I surrendered in what felt like a near instant. I was now a Harry Styles fan. (If weâre following this analogy, I sat up to spit out some blood after seeing that cover of âJuiceâ before my head quickly hit the mat again with a loud thud).
Maybe itâs not quite remarkable that I took time out of a Friday morning to watch a music video, but that I sat at my desk, in an office, with other people around (back when we did those kinds of things) and proceeded to wipe away a few tiny tears from under my eyes by the end of it, was an experience I had not been through⊠maybe ever? In a world of lyric videos and TikToks, actual, thoughtful, impactful music videos with a full (and sweet!) story are about as rare as a glowing and growing fish these days.
Ultimately, âAdore Youâ does everything a music video should do. In nearly eight minutes, this video uses excellent visual effects in a cool and interesting way, tells a compelling and heartfelt story, is anchored by an irresistible leading man and an adorable sidekick, is backed up by the catchiest song you could ever dream of, and culminates with a touching and hopeful ending. Itâs a treat for the eyes and the ears and the soul. Itâs innovative and the kind of thing that begs you to watch it more than once to catch all the details (and yes, I do tear up every time).
So one would think that an award show with the specific purpose of celebrating this type of creativity would be extra sure to nominate such a charming and effective clip, but alas, âAdore Youâ was overlooked in the MTV Video Music Awards main categories this year. Of course, some could argue that that fact only adds to the videoâs credibility but Iâll do my best to not be that petty as Iâm still rooting for it to win in the three technical categories where it picked up nominations: Best Visual Effects by Mathematic, Best Art Direction by Laura Ellis Cricks, and Best Direction by Dave Meyers, who remains one of the most inventive and influential directors of all time and whose videos with artists such as Missy Elliot, Pink, and Kendrick Lamar have been racking up nominations for nearly 20 years now. He also saw four other videos he directed get recognized this year: Normaniâs âMotivationâ (Best Chorography), Travis Scottâs âHighest in the Roomâ (Best Hop Hop and Best Visual Effects), Anderson .Paakâs âLockdownâ (Video For Good), and Camila Cabello feat. DaBabyâs âMy Oh Myâ (Best Cinematography).
But I reached out to Meyers to specifically ask about the intricate details of âAdore Youâ and how it all came to be; how he captured such a vibe with the overcast and dreary weather, mixed so wonderfully with the charming oddities of the people that make up this world of Eroda. In addition to directing the video, he also co-wrote the story with Chris Shafer and said, âItâs the first idea that popped to mind after the first listen to the song, and the first idea I pitched to Harry. It was a story that underscored my understanding of what Harry stood for and felt it was necessary to tell it as a narrative to convey his optimism.â
The extended version of the video starts with a two-and-a-half-minute introduction to the world of Eroda, narrated by Rosalia. This includes the âpeculiarâ people and their professions on the island, meeting The Boy (Styles) and his glowing smile that most people try to avoid, and the quirky superstitions these people continue to live by. âIt all served a purpose,â Meyers said of the details. âThe superstitions were a set up for how society generally reacts to different things. They fear change or oddity, even if itâs whatâs best for them.â
Meyers, however, did not share in that fear, as much of this video provided for interesting and new opportunities he had yet to experience throughout his decades-long career, which he listed off: âCompelling narrative, CG character, remote location, Scottish crew (nothing phased them),â also noting that all of the other characters in the video were locals as well. So perhaps they were less fazed by the atmosphere across the four-day shoot in Scotland, but as Meyers recalled, the âweather was nuts. It rained every 20 minutes, then the sun, then cloud over.â
However, itâs likely that Mother Nature is also a Styles fan, as Meyers recalled, âI seem to remember going up on the hill for Harryâs picnic with the fish and being worried that it was so gloomy. By the time we came to shoot, the sun came out. And then the sun went away as soon as the scene was over. Similarly, we had the worst storm when Harry was contemplating suicide at the start. Pouring rain, drenching him. So I guess in that sense it was fun watching how Scotland provided a backdrop for the emotions we were after.â
And hey, at least they had the weather on their side to add to the mood while shooting the video, as one of their main characters, well, didnât exist. âIt was very odd shooting with no fish,â Meyers admitted. âBut was quite rewarding later seeing it dropped in and making empathic sense to the story we were after.â
Of course, the main character they did have on hand is an awfully useful and appealing one at that. Fans became enamored with the moment Styles uses the back of his hand to check the temperature of a coffee pot before dumping the fish inside the water so it could stay alive. I asked Meyers about this particular moment and he said, âThe problem we had was apparent when Harry ran in and threw the fish in the pot. We all sorta felt â well, what if it was hot? So I believe Harry improvised that as a solution and we felt it was perfect for the characterâs sensitivity and consideration for this poor fish.â And thatâs not the only nice thing he does for his fish friend â he also serves him a tiny taco! âThe taco was a whimsical way to express friendship between Harry and the fish,â Meyers offered. It looked pretty tasty, too.
The entire video serves as a showcase for what Styles does best and what makes him such a unique artist: his music, his acting, and his charisma, which Meyers knew would offer him a lot to work with. âHarry is a leading man. I felt that from my first meeting and wanted to play with his wonderful range of emotions. So finding a story with a real character arc was part of my focus in building this world.â Meyers described working on âAdore Youâ as an âall-around memorable shoot: awesome location, lovely Harry, compelling story, great effects, and⊠it worked.â
It did. And it was a risk: a video this complex and detailed (and one has to assume, costly), attached to a marketing campaign that proved to be even more involved, still came with no guarantee that the fans wouldnât shrug it off. But as Manos Xanthogeorgis, SVP of Digital Marketing & Media at Columbia Records told Billboard last year, âWhen you have a video and a piece of art at such a level, itâs an incredible challenge for the rest of the team to build a campaign at that same level of artistry and creativity.â Oh, and that was only step one, as the marketing team engaged in âreal-time marketingâ with fans online, ensuring they would continue to remain engaged by dropping clues and clips in the lead-up to the video premiere and subsequently the album. âThis whole campaign was around mystery and sometimes mystery is more powerful than knowledge,â Xanthogeorgis said. The Twitter handle has remained active throughout 2020, used as a continual marketing tool for Stylesâ next videos including the Meyers-directed âFallingâ and this summerâs hit, âWatermelon Sugar.â
With that kind of fan engagement, âAdore Youâ seemed like a no-brainer for the fan-voted categories of the VMAs this year, as they surely wouldâve turned out to vote just as feverishly for this video as they did when searching for clues (about a made-up island, at that!). But hey, maybe MTV was just not interested in massive fan engagement this year â after all, itâs not like everything Styles does, including growing freakinâ facial hair, has the internet in a tizzy for weeks. Ultimately, as the impact of music videos (and certainly the ceremony celebrating them) continues to lose relevance, the disregard of this specific project simply feels like a missed opportunity to acknowledge a rare achievement in the art form.
While Meyers was sure to describe his inclusion in the VMA nominations this year as âlovely and flatteringâ (and he better have a moonperson in his possession this time next week, MTV!) itâs still puzzling why âAdore Youâ wouldnât be included in the big categories, considering Styles is squarely within their demo, at the very least. That âAdore Youâ is also a technical and storytelling masterpiece, as well as a full moment that was used as inspiration both for the experience online and in-person at the Fine Line Spotify listening party last December, that also comes packed with one of the most enthusiastic groups of fans around, well, that should have had the entire network drooling.
Of course, some of this can simply be chalked up to a perfect storm. As far as his singles go, âLights Upâ was a nice appetizer, but âAdore Youâ remains the delicious entree (you already know whatâs for dessert). âAdore Youâ is a perfect pop record if Iâve ever heard one (and I have) and deserved a special video. A Chris Isaak âWicked Gameâ sexy vibe wasnât going to work here. The song tells the story of such passionate, pure, and heartachingly naive and innocent love that it almost had to be directed toward a non-human being. Instead, Styles chose to inject those same carefree, sweaty, sticky, delicious, whimsical beach vibes into the âWatermelon Sugarâ clip, which was the right choice, and not just for the summertime season (MTV has since added the Song of Summer category to the VMAs and included âWatermelon Sugarâ).
But itâs âAdore Youâ that has melodies that bring a smile to the faces of babies, get your toes tapping even when you hear it in the dentistâs chair, and likely has my neighbors rolling their eyes when I sing along to it in the shower. The song is so simple itâs deep, a theme reflected in the video, as is the central reminder to help and care for others, a thoroughly 2020 message.
However, not all is lost. Both âAdore Youâ and âWatermelon Sugarâ continue to rack up major spins at radio with the latter hitting number one on the Billboard charts earlier this month. Grammy voting kicks off at the end of September and Academy members should take note. Not only is Fine Line more than worthy of being acknowledged, but having Styles on hand to potentially collect trophies and perform is in your best interest when it comes to viewers and online chatter. Do not wait to take him seriously. This is the album, this is the time. Prove that you arenât a bunch of stodgy old white men who think heâs just for teen (and um, thirty-something) girls, but that you understand the music he enjoys, is inspired by, and subsequently makes, is the same rock music you appreciate as well. An artist like Styles can be both of those things at the same time, and really, the best of both worlds. Give the album a listen, and then one more to let it all sink in. If you have not yet succumbed to the force that is Harry Styles fandom, I truly canât recommend it enough â and please know that it will get you eventually.

Street Dance of China S4 Ep 3
(Iâm having problems with Tumblr not saving my posts...)
- Oh no people are going to start getting eliminated! :o Well, Iâm still really glad that we had two whole episodes of people just dancing and having fun and getting the opportunity to showcase who they are and how they dance.
- This question just occurred to me, but where do people look when they watch dance performances? As I watched the Go Go Brothers, I was thinking to myself, âWhere do I look? If I look at one of them, I might miss what the other Brother is doing!â Just my musings lol.
- I am super shallow but people tripping makes me laugh, so yes, Nelson accidentally tripping did make me chuckle. (+ Rochkaâs reaction)
- Yibo and Yixing discussing the SDOC theme song. It made me laugh because the lyrics are kind of hype but Yibo and Yixing arenât exactly the most facially expressive people lol.
- After every performance Henryâd be like âletâs collaborate!!!!!!â Han Geng finally stepped in being like aight Henry you gotta take it easy on the recruitment because weâve literally only seen three performances. Iâm still not really sure of the format of the show from now on, so Iâm not sure if they form new teams afterwards.
- Yixing was so guilty about not giving Bouboo a vote.
- Rochkaâs shock @ Boubou not getting four votes.
- Heâs ashamed.
- I think if a dancer gets less than 4 votes, then other dancers are allowed to challenge them for a spot to advance, but whoever loses is eliminated out of the tournament, so you have to be super confident to challenge. And if a dancer only gets 1 or 2 votes, they are eliminated.
- Yibo asked Rochka why he wouldnât challenge Bouboo and Rochka said heâd never go against his teacher/big brother v.v They exchanged hearts but then Rochka pretended to throw the heart away and crush it lol.
- While I was expecting a bit more from Bouboo, I donât think his challenger JC Jun was better than him. JC Jun was kind of wobbly, and I think his dance didnât match the music as well as Boubooâs did.
- Yixing had his head down when he voted for Ibuki too, so I think he just gets nervous about voting.
- Henry wanted to say that Ibuki was like lightning but he said the word for a flashing light/disco light and Han Geng wanted to give him shit for it.
- Yixing said that he thought ACâs waacking almost felt like krump.Yixing said that if he was to collaborate with AC, AC should do the arm swing, and Yixing would do the waacking lol. I am all for seeing Yixing doing more dance styles! Not gonna lie, I think heâd look cute doing waacking.
- Ye Yinâs performance was really nice! The music was unique and the way he danced, with the tap dance and folk-like elements really suited it.
- Rochka said he wants to know Ye Yin more and said they also have the same smile.
- Xiao Jie said heâd never battle Ye Yin but he got peer pressured by the captains into freestyling to Ye Yinâs self-produced song lol.
- To show face, you know? The entire time he was like âbut this doesnât count, okay?!!!!â since he wasnât actually challenging Ye Yin, and it was just for funsies.
- The judges were a bit troubled by Xiaomingâs performance because at the end, he was supposed to fall but his fall wasnât coordinated with the sound effect in the music. Xiaoming was like yeah, itâs pretty difficult but Iâm hoping that my challenger wouldnât be able to get it too and Yixing was laughing his goose laugh. But Xiaoming was eliminated with zero votes in the end.
- Kelo and Uwa had a horror mental hospital-themed dance which was interesting. Kelo said it was based on a nightmare he had as a child.
- Yang Kai wasnât impressed though. He said heâd performed something similar with Liangliang before. He felt that Kelo and Uwa were performing but not really dancing. I can see where heâs coming from. Kelo and Uwa got three votes.
- Xiaohai ended up challenging them. He used the wheelchair too but like...somehow his expression just makes us unable to not laugh.
- I think he did really well considering heâd only heard the music once. And he returned to the wheelchair at the end of the performance lmfao
- Apparently when Xiaohai was looking up at the beginning, he was asking Li Yulong (who I assume is the person in charge of the music) for music cues but Li Yulong just laughed at him lol.
- Yibo basically said that Kelo and Uwaâs performance felt a bit abrupt in the story telling side, and that there werenât really highs and lows to their performance.
- Rochka was talking crap about Bouboo behind his back and Yibo tattled which resulted in Rochka getting whacked in the face.
- Zyko taught Yibo and Rochka how to do his fancy leg moves.
- Yixing talking krump with Auju. Auju was like youâre really good for someone whoâs only been learning for a year, but then Yixing was like, I practise 6 hours a day and Auju was like ?!?!
- Zyko + Henry (with Henryâs infamous âgetting down while playing violinâ move)
- PoppinâC introduced himself, saying he was from Italy and Switzerland, and Yibo and Yixing were thinking of all the things from Italy they knew. Yibo was like â...Valentino Rossi...â and Yixing was like â....pizza.....â These two spacey twinks istg.
- Anyway, PoppinâCâs performance was nice. Not only were his moves clean and impressive, but he also expressed the lyrics through his dance.
- Rochka fanboying over PoppinâCâs dance :P At one point, the lyrics were about hearts, and PoppinâC did some moves where he made a heart and Rochka here is saying how cute it was.
- PoppinâC said he missed his daughter and everybodyâs like ?? a baby??? :3 :3 :3
- Also, I saw Uwa in the audience, so I think that the eliminated contestants get to continue watching.
- PoppinâC said that before, he was more fierce, but now that he has a daughter, heâs a little smoother and sweeter :3 Also he was describing that the singerâs voice in the song made his skin feel like chicken and everybody was like ??? Luckily Yixing saved the day lol. In Chinese, goose bumps are called âchicken pimplesâ or something like that.
- Bozi was next. In his introduction, Bozi said he was from Guangzhou, and maybe thatâs why it sounded like so many people in the audience were pronouncing æłąć in Cantonese.
- Eleven said something very interesting about B-boys. He said that in their profession of dance, they donât fear b-boys who can do tricks, but they fear b-boys who can listen to music. I think itâs a reference to the fact that b-boys are often doing their own thing and disregard the music, which makes sense. Sometimes b-boys are closer to gymnasts because they are so focused on the spins and other really athletic moves they do. But because their moves are so difficult, they sometimes donât move to the music which is supposed to be the point of dancing.
- Bozi passed with 4 votes. And he did a bit of krump at the beginning, which Yixing admitted he fell for haha. Bozi said that Eleven helped him choreograph that part, so itâs Eleven who knows Yixing well >3
- The director asked Bozi who he thought his biggest b-boy rival on the show was. Of course, we all thought he was going to say Lil Kev, but he ended up saying Xiaoji and Xiaoji was like ?? me?? Boziâs reasoning was that heâs more troubled by dancers with a different style from him because he doesnât know how to beat them. From the small clips they showed, I think Xiaoji has a more animated style, whereas Bozi is more serious and reserved.
- Acky-san cheering on MT Pop lol. (âEmbarrassing dad at baseball gameâ mode activate)
- MT Pop has really impressed me in the competition so far though. The way he moves is so cool and creative. I think he purposely goes for a kind of...monster vibe? Like he often has this creepy smile on his face lol. Heâs not only dancing, but heâs using popping techniques to change how he moves entirely, including simple things like walking or how he turns his head. I think MT Pop is my favourite contestant.
- He said the monster from Panâs Labrynth inspired this dance. So I guess I was kind of right that he does draw inspiration from monsters and other creatures.
- Low key mad at Han Geng for not giving MT Pop his vote lol. Geng-ge said he wanted to give someone a chance to challenge. Of all people, why MT Pop?? I donât want him to goooo.
- Henry wanted to try doing the voiceover for the challenger and Han Geng indulged his overdramatic ass.
- Baby Dolphin challenged. He had some cool moves at the beginning, but I think he fell apart a bit towards the end, based on the judgesâ reactions (as we didnât see the full performance). Plus, I think MT Popâs approach to dancing is just too unique and interesting to eliminate at this point.
- Kabamba had an interesting performance that had African and Latin influences, with big and energetic movements. Tianci challenged but he went with a general hip hop approach which did not suit the music at all. (I looked up Kabamba. Her name is Latrice Kabamba, but she also goes by æçćš on her social media, which is why sheâs sometimes called Nana on the show).
- Acky-san was repeating everything that people were saying around him. Stuff like jiayou!! and other words of encouragement. Dianmen who was sitting next to him was just lolâing.
- Ma Xiaolong was performing to a song called æŁ and this word usually refers to any kind of board game. Ma Xiaolongâs first moves looked like he was putting pieces on a board and you just know that kind of stuff draws Yixingâs attention right away.
- I think Kenkenâs style of dance is the kind of dance that the general public would really enjoy. Whereas some kinds of dance donât really appeal to people who arenât into dance, I think Kenkenâs kind of dance will attract both the dance-conscious people as well as those who arenât. I definitely got that vibe from him in the dance that he choreographed, and also his individual performance.
- Not even gonna question this. Perfection. Rochka catboy here we go.
- Okay, I agree with Colinâs performance not making the cut. Based on his introduction, he was supposed to be a popping expert, but his dance didnât showcase that. His dance was more of a contemporary dance piece, but while weâve had performances similar to that, his choreography didnât stand out in comparison. After his performance he had a bit of a cry. Yixing mentioned that it was hard to judge because of the emotional aspect. But admittedly, this emotional stuff is usually the reason why I donât like competition shows. It was revealed that Colin had lost his grandfather. Now, Iâm going to sound cold, but I donât like it when sob stories are brought in, because it makes us feel bad when we donât like a piece of art that comes from very pure intentions. Yixingâs reasoning for not giving a vote was that he felt that the emotions overshadowed the dance, which is a problem because this is a show about dance. Han Gengâs reasoning was that he felt that the skill level could have been better. Yibo was quite moved by the performance, and I think thatâs why he gave his vote to Colin.
- We got a preview for this weekâs hotpot show.
- Yixing and his emotional support giant cup
- Lots of laughing (including Yixing laughing) which is good for the soul

âą TALIA NASCIMENTOâą
IG info/bio: @/callmetalia333 | 524k followers | Journalist | TALIA. but u may have formerly known me as user: brdf0rdsvasquiffârip!!!1! so donât even think about it đ
(23) 25 going on (26) years of age
Iâve read a canon that her name is just Talia and not short for anything & I agree with that + sheâs always quick to correct someone if they get it wrong too
Her hometown is Watford, England
but she was originally born in Maidenhead in the backseat of a car during a severe rainstorm
Nonetheless watford taught her all she needed to know when it came to music
She found her first love when she heard the sound of music soundtrack for the v first time as a young girl but is often nervous to admit that?
her father is Brazilian and is a firefighter
her mother is Bulgarian and works as a secretary in a elementary school
her mother is more traditional than her father when it comes to their cultures
I originally felt like she gave only child vibes but I can deff see her giving off big sis energy since she did mention she has a younger brother
V protective over her little brother
thereâs a three year age difference
her parents have separated multiple times before which caused a riff in the family dynamic
The constant coming and going from her dad became quite irritating
And Talia was the most vocal by wanting them to figure it out and NOT get a divorce
Which led to taliaâs commitment issues when it came to relationships herself
was born with blue eyes yet they shifted to brown once she grew
âTom-boyâ growing up & still is
netball was her sport and man was it something to see her play?! She was quick on her feet and can definitely shoot far-range with ease
Always down for contact sports too
She lost count how many bruises and scrapes she would come home with much to her motherâs horror but she would always brush it offâit was never that big of a deal to her
yet she takes time in healing her scars with homemade treatments or purchases from beauty stores when she wants to show her legs off
she didnât get into âgirlyâ wear until recently, she never thought too much of her body or when she started to get curves...she always hid that behind big teeâs, fitted jeans, and kicksâthatâs what she was used to
sheâs got broad shoulders and toned arms
had thick bushy brows that almost formed a uni brow growing up
her mother used to have her hair always plaited since she is very superstitious, believing that âthe devil lives in the womanâs hairâ
yet taliaâs hair texture was much different than her motherâs, maybe due to the fact that her mother always had her hair up and out of the way? Taliaâs hair is much bigger, heavier, and naturally curly
+ her mother used to say some harsh things in Bulgarian about her hair â that says a lot when youâre taught to hate your hair trust!!!
when she got a little older and able to manage her own hair + afford it, She learned how to love it herself and thatâs all that mattered. Her hair became v important to her, it was her source of comfort
thatâs the only thing sheâs high maintenance about tbh
she spends a lot of money on her hair but devacurl can still piss off
diffusing is one of her fav things to do to her hairâbesides washing it, and deep conditioning, after a night of letting her hair air-dry
loves rose jam
has a embroidery machine, along with a collection of her work but only one piece is showcased in her flat. She didnât want her place to look completely like her bĂĄbaâs (Bulgarian: grandmother)
her closet is filled with many Havaianas, theyâre all piled up in a wicker basket and ready to tumble over on her top shelf... if she moves one of the ceramic pots her mother left in her flat for luck, that whole shelf might come crashing down
Swears drinking guaranĂĄ the next morning cures any hangover you may have
commonly sleeps in big t-shirts and panties or not or booty shorts depending on her time of the monthâitâs freeing to her
Has torn her achilles due to whatever contact sport she decided to join in on during a beach vacation with her mates
has a touch of arthritis in her shoulder
this is where her love for massages came from due to injuries sheâs faced
+ Itâs always a good sign when you can make someone else feel better ya know?
Sheâs been told sheâs great with her hands ;) it all takes practice
bi mami *cringe* but she likes what she likes, and feels what she feels
she kinda has a type but doesnât want to admit that
her mother doesnât understand this but her father easily accepted her preference/orientation
her little brother was the first she came out to, âalright!...you still suckâ
always wants to fix situations WHEN it comes to HER friends but is oblivious when itâs come to her own issues whether its in relationships/friendships +
was called out by one of her friends who she often argues/butts heads with from time to time âyouâre always sticking your nose in peopleâs business but canât solve your own shit!â
maybe itâs the journalist in her? sheâs not afraid to ask questions or look at things from a outside perspective
her group of friends are all from different ethnic backgrounds to Indian to Ethiopian
has been in and out of relationships...maybe had one stable relationship? Outside of mc but that relationship failed after a year and she feels it has something to do with her parents and how she watched their relationship unfold but wonât openly admit that
Doesnât like to argue in relationships and often is a little undermining with how she responses to her partnerâs feelings...sheâs trying to be better at being understanding and listening, her mother is like this with her father
Aquarius girl + Scorpio moon + Taurus rising
loves the water + watching water sports rather than playing them since she almost drowned once by letting her confidence get the best of her
used to be a directioner and isnât ashamed to admit that!
take me home album stan 100% bitch thereâs no point in arguing!!! Buh bye!!!
She is ashamed however to admit that she used to write for them, mostly ziam fics with a touch of Harry thrown in the mix as well...take that how u will
has a few merch pieces as well, theyâre mostly loungewear + that powdery perfume they dropped. YES she still has it, no she wonât sell it to u
still supports them on the low since you know, sheâs a music journalist and reviewing songs is what she makes a living for so why the hell not? They will always hold a special place in her heart. She grew with those boys
sheâs not in denial like Hannah that theyâre get back together
If someone wants her to film a reaction vid to zaynâs new album or release a written review? She WILL. Her top 3? 1. When loves around ft Syd 2. Outside 3. Unfuckwitable
If someone wants to hear her thoughts on Harryâs mvâs + breaking down his lyrics, sheâll tell you what you NEED to know whether U agree or not she donât give a damn lol
Can throw hands and stomp a bitch out if she needs too. Has gotten kicked out of clubs/bars for defending her friends mainly not because someone chatted shit to her, thatâs whatever but once you cross her friends? Itâs on
Allegra got lucky đŠ¶đŒâïž and Lucy
remained super close with jake and tim as expected...Rohanâs cool too ofc! but sheâs not here for their rapping shit sorry. Sheâll hit them both with a quick side eye and snarl if they start or if jake wants to recite some poetry. Sheâs outta here
Talia hardly had issues making friends easily with the boys it was always harder with the girls :/
they hang out all the time!
she actually became close with sammi as well, which was nice to have another girl friend around even tho they werenât together in the house long like the others. Sheâs spontaneous, cute, resourceful, and kind so talia had no issue reaching out to her first to see what she was about outside of the show
donât even ask her about what she thinks of the new seasons, sheâs not here to chat shit and have her words twisted like sheâs watched many of the cast deal with. If you want to talk about the over kill use of pop as the soundtrack for each season, then yeah sheâll talk to you about that
doesnât use social media much, she finds it funny how whenever she does pop back in people are begging her to post SOMETHING so that they know that sheâs alive
Pretty private
she also canât grasp why they want her to do the bussit challenge? Lmao like hey donât get her wrong, some of them were pretty great but sheâs barely got a bum to bounce and little booties matter ofc!!! but she canât see herself doing it unless sheâs drunk off her arse!!!
maybe mc can convince her...for the fans duh!!! âGive the ppl what they want! Talia! Itâs not like you wonât be around music!â âIâll think about it...nah.â
sheâs been busier since the show, able to tour more and WRITE which is what she loves to do
Her secret pleasure is watching those nurse shows and firefighting shows in her free time and those singing shows you already know thatâs a given
Wanted to be some form of a nurse growing up but knew she could help people in another way
*inserts* âmusic Is The best Medicineâ overused but true quote here!!
I feel like sheâs a r&b lover
listens to those hour long rain sounds on YouTube to help herself fall asleep
sheâs not the best cook but sheâs a foodie and sheâs down to try new food always
occasionally her and Tim are jakeâs Guinea pigs when heâs whipping something up for his menu ïżŒïżŒ
and hates eating the same things all the time unless itâs breakfast! Thereâs not too much more you can do with that
thatâs also her specialty, making breakfast for u in bed
Morning afters with her are intimate but humorous. Sheâll poke fun if youâre both looking crazy, always joking and in the best mood whether things got physical or not sheâs just happy to have you here ïżœïżœ
I think her love language is quality time
if youâre playing her route and Lucy is the ex, and youâve decided to fully commit to each other I deff see Lucy still trying to pull some shit outside of the show just because she feels like she can but once Talia seeâs that itâs really starting to get to you despite how much you try to brush it off or snap at Lucy or even Talia!!! Talia is on Lucyâs ass in seconds! She doesnât need a ex to ruin her possible future , âyouâre not gonna fuck up this good thing Iâve got just cause youâre flimsy at relationships babe, so go be a cunt somewhere else or youâll be sorry. I promise.â

Meyers, however, did not share in that fear, as much of this video provided for interesting and new opportunities he had yet to experience throughout his decades-long career, which he listed off: âCompelling narrative, CG character, remote location, Scottish crew (nothing fazed them),â also noting that all of the other characters in the video were locals as well.
But hey, maybe MTV was just not interested in massive fan engagement this year â after all, itâs not like everything Styles does, including growing freakinïżœïżœ facial hair, has the internet in a tizzy for weeks.
If you have not yet succumbed to the force that is Harry Styles fandom, I truly canât recommend it enough â and please know that it will get you eventually.Â

Winx Club Season 8 Thoughts Part 2
Well, this is it. Last part of the last season (that has come out) and I havenât even watched any of it (though, I have heard things). Part 1 can be found here.
8x14:
- Why is this opening with a concert scene when literally the second to last scene in the previous episode was a musical number? At least there was that cute Stella and Brandon moment after to make up for it.
- This is actually a legitimate issue but I do not expect the show to handle the fact that Sky has clashing responsibilities on his shoulders well. Theyâre already implying that itâs more important for him to be a Specialist rather than a prince and that is not true. Eraklyon will suffer without a good king. Though, on the other hand... how good a king would Sky be? Maybe this is better, after all. At least someone actually interested in doing the job can take over.
- They legit made Erendor a lot thinner than he originally was? And somehow ruined his design also. As well as Diasproâs. Ugh, why is there gonna be drama with her again????????????????? How many times?!?!?! For fuckâs sake! Just let it end!
- Seriously? Theyâre all blaming Stella for Bloomâs gloom? Stella has the right to talk about her own relationship as well. And when the fuck have Musa and Riven ever talked? Not to mention that now Riven is trying to communicate with her but she doesnât even want to give him a chance!
- Valtor has become more cringe than he used to be. At least the Trix seem to have become smarter. We didnât need him to tell us who they were, however. Also, why does he think that they will not use the star for themselves.
- His new powers literally come from stolen star energy and he just said that stars are made from the sparks that witch and fairy magic are also made of. Aka his magic should be compatible with that of Winx and the Trix as well.
- Oh, great! Now they belong to him. They really didnât have to make season 8 Valtor a Darkar 2.0 and yet, they thought it was a good idea. I just... nggggggh!
- The Wishing Star... is a woman? And wait, what... Theyâre saying that Valtor is over a 1000 years old now? Yeah, âcause a 1000-year-old sorcerer/demon will totes lose against a bunch of high-schoolers. Makes fucking sense.
- How did Stormy summon an asteroid field?
- What... the hell just happened? Donât tell me the Star made herself fall apart in the different colors of the color spectrum and theyâll need to gather all of them in the stupid star-shaped box!
- Twinkly is back on Lumenia? Did we really need her back? And why is the star-shaped box chasing her?
- If I were Sky, I probably would be scared to tell Bloom that it is Diaspro texting. She can have terrible reactions to just the thought of Diaspro. Though, to be fair I have no idea why Sky keeps speaking to Diaspro. He has every right to just cut her off completely after what she did in seasons 3 and 6.
- Brandon, you know very well who Diaspro is! And no, I donât care that they are giving a really crashing crash course to the new audience. This is terrible! Also, you have to love how Sky didnât even think about calling Erendor to ask about the mission. He just took Diasproâs word for it. Because she is sooooo trustworthy.
- I was almost right. Instead of colors they are going to be collecting Prime Stars instead. I still got the right idea, though. It is a bit... lame.
- Enchantix looks a lot less elegant and a lot more... second-hand fabric sewn together poorly. Also, I hate the fact that they had the transformation song from the first movie and not the original. And they basically used the same sequence as the one for Sirenix but they are only popping their Enchantix on instead.
- âI didnât think it would be so easy.â Same! Finding that Compass was the easiest thing ever and it doesnât matter that things will get heated now that the Trix are here because the Compass didnât pose a challenge of its own.
8x15:
- I am living for the dramatic opening of this episode.
- Why arenât the rest of Winx covering Bloom so that she can grab the Compass? Five against the Trix should be enough for her to take it.
- Really? You canât figure out who freed them? I love that they told Bloom to ask herself. That was great!
- I was getting excited that Valtor showed up but it was just an illusion of Darcyâs. Anyway, the question that came to me involves the Trix as well so... How come they followed Winx in the box since Winx needed to use Enchantix to miniaturize?
- So it turns out that it wouldnât have been so easy to take the Compass even though it looked that way in the beginning.
-Tecna!!!!!!!!!!!! What Musa is hearing is the key to getting the Compass, you idiot! It is important and not something to leave for later!
- Theyâre just gonna chase after it without paying attention to what the voice told them? Fucking amazing! And Bloom is sending her Dragon after it? I am so glad that this is not working!
- Lmaooooo @ Layla catching Bloom in a baseball glove. XD
- Why are they so fucking dumb? The whole thing is controlled by the notes Musa heard SINCE ITâS A FUCKING MUSIC BOX, NOT LIKE THEREâS MUCH TO IT! and they just need to figure out the pattern. Thatâs what they were told. âOnly the one who listensâ Come on!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
- I love the spells theyâre using, though. They seem to be more creative with their powers here and it is actually interesting enough to distract from their zero comprehension skills and abilities to make deductions.
- Oh, I love the balance thing in the labyrinth! And the Compass hitting Icy on the head was just priceless! But why are you so rude to Stormy, Icy? Donât be like that.
- Yes, you will make the same mistakes because you are still not FUCKING listening goddammit!!!!!!!!!
- Oh, come on! Donât tell me Bloom will be the one solving this!
- Good! It was actually Musa that fixed the whole thing. I still cannot make sense of the musical theme of this challenge in-verse but it wasnât as bad as I thought it would be so Iâm gonna close my eyes for that.
- Why didnât they try to capture the Trix or something? They just let them go.
- Arken got this right in no time at all and knew it had been Valtor who had freed the Trix. Why is he the only one thinking?
- Is Valtor really going to try to pit the Trix against each other once again? God, please, tell me that they will not be falling for that this time! It is ridiculous!
- Why would Wizgiz be in a trashcan? And they just destroyed the entire classroom looking for him while I suspect he is actually truly just running late... Yep, got that right.
- Donât tell me Bloom will see Sky with Diaspro at Red Fountain! Heâs supposed to be on a mission, not at school!... Oh, good. Heâs not there. But why is Bloom weeping? He is on a secret mission! It may endanger the job, him or anyone that knows anything to reveal details! Can she just not be a baby for 3 seconds?
8x16:
- HEâS ON A MISSION! HE MIGHT BE TIED UP!!!!!!! CHILL FOR A FEW MINUTES!!!
- Diaspro is actually climbing? She could just fly! But I guess they didnât want to draw her fairy form. Donât tell me theyâre retconning her being a fairy! I will smack someone if thatïżœïżœïżœs true!
- She legit threw herself off the rocks just to make sure Sky wouldnât text Bloom? Crazy much? What if he hadnât managed to catch you? Girl, you need some perspective! Sky is so not worth this.
- Griffin looks and sounds horrible. And why the actual hell is she exactly as tall as Faragonda?!?!?!?! She used to be half a head taller!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
- Disguise? You call that disguise? You changed your goddamn hair color!!!!!!!!!!!!!! And what is worse - IT ACTUALLY FUCKING WORKED!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! How did Stella not recognize them? Youâd think that she will when she is supposed to be such an expert on fashion and makeovers! And this didnât even have magic involved in it! (they could have changed their hair without magic is what Iâm saying)
- Wait, they actually extended the Cosmix song? Is that new or did I just not notice because Iâve been skipping the transformation sequence?
- I LOVE Griffin and Faragondaâs opening! They are both showcasing the fact that theyâre opposites and also being the dramatic bitches that they are and I am so here for it! Yes, this is everything I have wanted (if only it could have been in the old art style).
- The plants wonât speak to Flora? I actually like the fact that they have to work all together AND it is not convergence! This is more like it!
- No! I donât want the Trix fighting because of Valtor again!
- Why is Stormy playing twister? XD But I love the implication that there are different tests given to anyone who enters but they all require teamwork! That is awesome! Just, please, make something good with it!
- I just thought that Winx were really gonna beat the Trix with a lot this time but it turned out they are not paying attention to their colors! This is kinda like the finale of season 2, except it doesnât feel as dumb for some reason. Maybe because Stella is just as useful as everyone else.
- Another game? I actually like this? There is the need for logic to be applied here.
- I wish the Trix would just stop fighting! Well, itâs just Icy and Darcy. Stormy is being calm and thinking! I honestly thought that their portal would close while they were fighting but it sucked them in instead.
- Theyâre gonna be having more fun with the spheres again. Just like with the Compass, I have a feeling there is a catch here.
- Wait, what did Darcy do? Werenât they supposed to work together? How did she figure that out on her own? That didnât make sense but okay.
- I love how Valtor is actually gonna fuck himself over because he is trying to make the Trix fight but in order to find the Prime Stars theyâll need to collaborate. This is some delicious irony!
- And Winx found it!
- If I were Diaspro, I would actually have a fake map at the very least instead of a heart of me and Sky on the parchment. If he takes one look, heâll know sheâs deceiving him!
8x17:
- Theyâre having a test about their biggest insecurities in the episode in which theyâll be looking for the Prime Star of Confidence? And why are these things always about Stella? The Gem of Confidence back in season 5 was also on Solaria and she was the one to get it. Also, I am not thrilled about the fact that they will be pushing each star on a single girl from now on since there are six more to get after the first one that they had to get through teamwork.
- Musaâs biggest insecurity is making mistakes? They could have done something that would speak about why she is so unwilling to get back with Riven but no. Instead Bloomâs biggest insecurity is about Sky because of course it is! God forbid she has something else on the brain!
- Why are we doing the Stella and her parentsâ divorce again? And in the exact same old way we have already seen it back in seasons 1 through... about 5? Issues evolve! They could have put a new spin on it!
- How is making a dress going to solve this?
- At least Stella asked for help after she figured out she canât do it on her own! And I always love seeing Tecna and Stella moments! Stella and Musa are good too!
- Weâve seen that dress already. Stella wore it in season 6. Come on, writers!
- Ah, I see. Stella is trying to please both her parents and is not being herself aka not being confident. Fucking fantastic.
- I think Stella and Stromy passed because they were the first ones to do so and the challenge accepted them as contenders. So now they are separated form the rest because they have to handle it on their own.
- Awww, poor Stella! I think that kids of divorced parents are not the only ones that can relate to her problems! This is so heartbreaking!
- I am getting some bad vibes from Stormy over here, though... Oh. No. She actually totally rocked this because she has confidence in herself and her sisters! That was pretty awesome!
- Woooooo, the Trix actually got the second star? And they left with it?! They are actually making this interesting????? I cannot believe it!
- I absolutely love how both Winx and Stellaâs parents showed her how much they love her. And Luna and Radius are not fighting! *wipes away tear* Beautiful!
8x18:
- Bloom is so not here. And Palladium really chose her even though she is distracted after Stella would injure herself because she was so eager to do the potion? Fuck you, show!
- Well, he got what was coming for him! XD And Stella got the last word. Yes, I stan that!
- Damn! Iâd completely forgotten about Twinkly. And I could have had that continuing but they had to bring her back.
- If Bloom doesnât lose her shit over the unicorns and finally stops thinking about Sky, I will be so mad. They already gave her the unicorn obsession! They are obliged to put it to good use at the very least!
- Aaaaand cringe! They had to bring back âstarsomeâ as well.
- Oh, god. They really retconned the fact that Diaspro is a fairy, didnât they? Otherwise, why would they give her a gadget to fly? Also, please, donât tell me that theyâre at the same place that the Winx are.
- Well, the unicorn lumens seem to imply that theyâre at the same place that Bloom and the Winx are.
- See? This is why you need an actual fake map instead of just a doodle of you and Sky! Now he found out! Love how it took him a while to grasp the fact that there is no medallion as well. And wasnât that a pendant the first time they spoke of it?
- I honestly thought he would let the lumens handle Diaspro but he didnât. I canât say if Iâm disappointed or impressed. Or kinda both.
- At least Winx missed Diaspro and Sky and the drama that would have started. Thank everything sacred!
- So thatâs what Twinkly was for. To make sure Winx donât have to fight the other lumens. But the Trix will probably have to so that will give Winx an advantage. Just donât tell me this will stretch for over an episode.
- I loved the way Layla was holding Stella bridal style... right until she threw her to the ground. Dammit, Layla! Be a little more patient! You know how Stella is. And you donât have to risk breaking all her bones!
- Well, what luck that there are exactly six unicorns. I would be a little worried about Stellaâs outfit because that is what allows her to travel through space. So what if it doesnât work when itâs damaged? But damn, theyâre really trying to stretch this to take up two episodes! After they retconned Stella already being a cowgirl as weâve seen in season 1.
- Poor Stella! She has a fear of heights and her unicorn seems to be an asshole for no reason.
- Why are Sky and Diaspro still there? At least Sky is actually not letting her get away with everything just like that this time. But Diasproâs arguments are stupid.
- THATâS âhimâ? A black uni-pegasus? It looks evil but it probably isnât. *sigh* And why didnât Sky just fly up when he faced that rock? It would have ended eventually and he could have passed above it!
- Oh, come on! The drama will be in the next episode and that is why they were stretching out this one? W.H.Y?????? Also, how is Sky flying in the synopsis for the next ep if he broke his flying gadget? Donât tell me he actually gets Diasproâs and they leave her there to sulk while they go get the star? (That might actually be the one good thing coming out of all this.)
8x19:
- Of course, Bloom would fly right into Diaspro! (Well, Diaspro was screaming for help but still).
- What happened with Sky? The black unicorn was about the blast him into oblivion at the end of the previous episode but now he somehow got away? And how did Diaspro get there as well? He left her on a much smaller rock island.
- Well, of course, the black unicorn isnât evil even though heâs just been trying to kill two people. Didnât I tell you so?
- Ah, so Tecna fixed Skyâs gadget. I thought that would be the other option to fix it.
- I was just gonna say that the horn of the black unicorn looked chipped. Poor guy. They actually made it understandable that he was so mad.
- And Bloom is absolutely exploding. I can understand that she would be angry Sky didnât tell her and hid the truth from her. But that was not what she was mad about. She was mad that he even WENT on the mission which is stupid because, for all she knows, it could totally be an official mission ordered by his father.
- I knew it! I knew the black unicorn would pick Diaspro. Except, I have zero idea why the hell he would do that. Why, after being hurt? Diaspro is not the most polite person and he saw that for himself. Wtf, writers? I could understand it if Diaspro had been like she was in season 2. But this?!?!?!?! And that was just,.. there? Like, there was nothing more to it. Just a loose end. We didnât even get to see what happened with Diaspro.
- At least Bloom and Sky are actually talking about the hiding things issue. I have to say, though, that I canât fully support Bloom because Sky is right. She freaks out over just hearing Diasproâs name which, again, would have been a totally reasonable reaction considering Diaspro brainwashed Sky if they hadnât COMPLETELY IGNORED THAT FACT AND PRETENDED IT HAD NEVER HAPPENED. Bloom is not mad because of how much Diaspro has hurt them both but because she doesnât believe Sky will keep choosing her if Diaspro is around. And this is an issue SHE has to work on.
- The Trix are still bickering. But at least they look a lot more competent in this season. But did they all really think that Stormy wouldnât have her dramatic ass entrance? If I could summon thunderstorms, I definitely would for making my entrance. Just saying.
- Laylaâs morphix bubble was so powerful! I love!
- Wait, Sky and Icy will be fighting for the Prime Star while Bloom was left looking at them disappearing after she stopped her own fall like she should be able to do instead of having to be saved despite being able to fly? Wow. This is getting interesting.
- I should have known they would fuck it up! They should have left Sky and Icy to fight it out instead of having Bloom go in there and âtrustâ Sky to get himself out of a cage that wasnât even closing in on him? She could have just went after Icy and freed him after she was done. There was no immediate danger for him. There was no reason for their great trust. This scene had so much damn potential and they wasted all of it. Great going!
- Why is there a musical number when the only public is the landscape (okay, and the lumens and unicorns)? This was so unnecessary. We got it that they trust each other now. Stop driving nails in our heads.
8x20:
- Dammit! I thought that they would head to Linphea right after the unicorn realm. But theyâre back at Alfea? And since when is Griselda teaching about plants? That was always Palladiumâs job! Wtf?!?!?!
- Youâd think they already know all of this about plants considering that Butterflix was a GODDAMN NATURE TRANSFORMATION!
- Griselda is cutting them slack because of saving the universe? Yeah, right.
- How long will Stormy keep bragging about getting the Prime Star? They act like thatâs the only thing she ever did. Also, why is she so hung up on being the one to bring Valtor the Prime Star? Her test was legit about her standing up to him (which went over too easily considering Valtor is supposed to have control over them since he even put his mark on them but that did not appear in the vision for a second in order to make it actually complex or something).
- Well, Miele looks younger than she used to in season 7 but they didnât totally reverse her back into a kid. Yet, itâs stupid that they are still having the argument of âthis is too dangerous for youâ after season 7 and her saving them. Besides, Flora should know damn well that Miele will follow. She always does! Itâs like the writers have no idea who Miele is if they arenât having her following secretly and proving that it is not too dangerous for her to go.
- They canât use magic in the forest? Come again? This is such bullshit. It has never been the case on Linphea. I hate it.
- Why do they have to do ballet to open a stupid gate? But I love the fact that Darcy made illusions of them to perform the dance and let the Trix pass as well. She was using her head. And her magic in a really cool way. Plus, it would have been OOC to have the Trix dancing ballet. Can you imagine? XD
- So weâre learning to plant seeds and water flowers? Since when is this one of those shows that are for ages 0-3?
- Is that... a carnivore radish or something? And yeah, Flora, that totally doesnât look aggressive!
- When is Flora gonna stop treating Miele like sheâs three after all the times sheâs proven herself (I donât care if this is a soft reboot)? Though, Miele would have been more convincing if she hadnât thrown a tantrum and then started crying much like toddlers do.
- Of course, Darcy will use Miele. That was so damn obvious. Love how Miele didnât even get to transform. Honestly, at this point I am not even sure whether I want Winx or the Trix to get this Prime Star. Theyâre all being annoying and I donât care enough for either side to root for their victory.
- Now youâre taking Miele with? When she canât move? Fucking sound logic!
- Ooh, I guessed that that was actually Darcy disguised as Miele a few seconds before she revealed herself. But if I were Flora, it might have been enough to regain the advantage.
- Darcy just left Miele sleeping out there in the forest? Not that evil. She could have done something much worse.
- What, Layla? Like none of you ever got tricked?
- They are really playing it as if this was Mieleâs fault? Man, this season is really starting to waste opportunities which is really annoying because they actually have interesting premises. They just need to do better during the execution.
- At least I hope that Stormy will shut up about recovering a Prime Star now that Darcy has done the same. Ironic how Icy is the only one that hasnât managed yet. But I suppose that she will also recover one for a 3 on 4 with Winx and a final battle turned cooperation for the usage of the Prime Stars.
8x21:
- At least Griselda is back to self-defense classes. Though, why the hell is she teaching them deflection spells? They should know those already! They had that lesson in season 2! And why are Knut and Kiko assisting her? Kiko has been sidelined with Knut all season! It feels like heâs not Bloomâs bunny anymore!
- Why does this show hate Kiko so much and has him getting hurt all the time? At least Bloom caught him when he got catapulted. But poor Griselda. I have to say that this is her most OOC moment yet. And she even let them go again. She didnât have to end the entire class, though. She could have kept going with the rest of the students but once again, the world revolves around Winx.
- You want Riven to SHOW his feelings? Which he has been doing ever since he came back so, like, ALL FUCKING SEASON?!?!?!?! WOW. Fuck you, Musa!
- Whyyyy did they think the Trix wouldnât show up on Melody? But I am glad we skipped the obligatory Valtor scene because it is unnecessary.
- Galatea doesnât look too much like herself.
- Bullshit. Stella made them much better outfits when they went to Magix in season 3. And there were other designs that were better than these that, frankly, look pretty bland.
- Sooooo... Musa, the fairy of music, isnât going to be in the dance competition? Are they trying to level up things? And are you seriously telling me that the Trix are going to dance? Ugh, what the hell?!
- Awwwww, look at Riven! He really wants to try and he is even opening up to the guys about his relationship problems. I love it! Idk what Musaâs stupid problem is.
- This dance competition is so dead. You can only hear Galatea. The public isnât cheering. But aww, at Bloom catching Stella when she got yeeted off the dance floor. That was really cute.
- I guess competitiveness can make even the Trix dance. It doesnât change the fact that the competition is still fucking dead! And their dancing feels so arhythmical and slow. The music is fucking dull and practically non-existent.
- Ho-boe doesnât feel like himself either. And doesnât the house look so different as well? Also, did they ever do anything that doesnât involve music? I know theyâre a musical family but they must have done something else as well!
- Tecna is killing it! But Stormyâs abundance of energy seems to give her a big advantage here. Though, I still love how confident Tecna was! I have to say that this would have been absolutely epic if the music had been intense enough to match their moves. Why did they have to do these scenes so dirty by barely having any tune to them?! If Iâm watching a dance competition, I want it to be good!
- Musa and her dad are talking about Riven? And there is a Riven and Darcy confrontation?!?!?!
- Scratch that! They fucked it up in 0.3 seconds! Are you serious? This is literally Riven and Darcyâs first meeting ever since they broke up in season 1 and THIS is how it goes?! She hypnotizes him to use against Musa?!?!?! I hate this! At least let this be the end of their stupid drama.
- Why did the synopsis of the next episode instantly spoil that Stormy will win the fifth Prime Star? You just revealed all the surprise there will be next ep! Man, they really donât know how to advertise, do they? Also, this dance battle is really stretching over two episodes?
8x22:
- Now all I wanna do is write a fic in which Darcy gets really violent and there are heavy consequences after Rivenâs fight with Musa.
- Wait! â...rough and soothing combine artfully and that perfect sound will yield the Star of Harmonyâ? And the harp that Ho-Boe says needs to be played by two people? Thatâs gonna be Musa and Riven, isnât it? And theyâll get the star which will be the twist and that is why they spoiled Stormy wins in the teaser at the end of the last episode.
- Thank you, Musa! It took you long enough! He is so obviously spelled. Though, I kinda love how Darcy was there like âYou canât resistâ. This could be so dark if it werenât a kids show. And now I wanna write it!
- Dammit, Musa! You have your stupid Enchantix in this season! Use your goddamn fairy dust! Or any other kind of magic! And youâre really so damn surprised that it is Darcy?! It was obvious!
- That was the big idea? That Riven is âfinallyâ proving his feelings by refusing to hurt her? Gee. And thatâs how the battle between Riven and Musa and Darcy is going to go down? With some stupid formless monsters?
- Well, of course, Bloom beat Icy. But I suspect that Layla is gonna lose against Stormy so it doesnât matter much.
- Youâre now starting to get used to fighting alongside Riven even though heâs been gone a year and they were together for 4 years before that and fought together for about 5-6 years? Really? And that was the big battle with Darcy? They all had about 3 movements!
- Why is Bloom still in this? They should have given us Layla vs Stormy! We know Layla is the best at dancing (or tied with Musa).
- Why doesnât Ho-Boe know how they met? They used to date for years before Riven left!
- When have you ever felt harmony in your relationship, Riven? Donât start lying now! And why does he know how to play the harp? I saw this coming but it still kinda doesnât make sense!
- Finally! The Layla vs Stormy dancing duel we deserved! And the music is more lively now! At last!
- Oh, come on! Thatâs how Stormy beat Layla?! By distracting her?!?!?! I wanted it to be a fair fight. And why the hell is there goo or jello or whatever falling on Layla? This is terrible. You wouldnât catch me taking part in that dancing contest. Not to mention that they competed in vain. Although, it was a nice touch to have them misinterpret the riddle.
- Okay, but Riven is definitely not the rough part in that ârough and soothingâ combo. He has been nothing but amazing all season while Musa has been pouting and whining!
- The sad thing is that the Trix would have gotten the star if Stormy hadnât blabbed to Layla where Darcy was. But her cheating came back to bite her in the ass.
- It would have been nice if Musa had saved Riven instead of having Bloom melt him.
- Oh, Riven is a part of the band now? But seriously, will we ever see them talking? Like, actually communicating which is always where their problems lie? Of course not. Why would that be important?
- Theyâre really saying that Layla is more impulsive than Bloom? Yeah, fuck that big time! Also, donât tell me that the last star will be obtained by all six Winx again and that is why they will be combining Tecna and Layla in the next ep. Or even worse - by Winx and the Trix together.
8x23:
- âAn ounce more or less wonât matterâ? That is so not like Layla! It is more like Stella and even Bloom! What the hell? I hate what theyâre doing just to set up their stupid conflict for this episode!
- Okay, that shot with the Trix sitting all over Valtorâs throne was pretty cool! And I actually like the fact that he is not exploding at them about the fact that their last mission failed. That was a nice change of pace! Also, digging Darcy and Stormy taking over the throne and the way Valtor is collecting the Prime Stars when he doesnât have the box. It is... symbolic.
- Be my guest, Flora, and get between Stella and her tanning!
- Reasonable question, Stella! I was also gonna ask why the hell there are corals on dry land. And the Compass is going all crazy.
- Oh, goodie! Hawaiian lumens. In case weâd forgotten about the first half of the season. Which I honestly had.
- Bloom, you really have no other choice but to split up because Tecna and Layla will kill each other otherwise. And yes, Stella sure doesnât sound distracted now. Only panicky and possibly on the verge of becoming hysterical over the volcano.
- You mean, this isnât Valtor creating the lava gollems? At least itâs implied that there is one for each girl so the split-up doesnât put them at a disadvantage.
- Poor Stella, being used as bait. And they just made more of the monsters. I guess her shining personality is not going to be enough to spare the others the notice.
- Did Valtor actually say âbooâ? Wow, okay.
- How is a shell the symmetry between light and shadow? It is on the land and not halfway between land and sea! This was absolute bullshit! Meanwhile, Stella and Bloom are getting overwhelmed back there at the volcano against six opponents!
- Valtor cut in just in time! I thought his presence would have been useless. But he upgraded to adapt to his âinabilityâ to touch the Prime Stars even though the source of his magic is literally stars in this season!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I just cannot even anymore.
- Yeah, and this bullshit choice again between two things that are important. Weâre using this for the third time in ten episodes! Really need to come up with something else over here.
- And we didnât even see Bloom and Stella really do anything. This episode is put together in a horrible way. Plus, how the fuck are you getting in a volcano that is already erupting! I would have loved for Bloom to use her Dragon Fire here because at least that would have made sense instead of this bullshit we got!
- At least we got that cute Layla and Tecna hug!
8x24:
- Tecna turning into a sheep seemed OOC. And Flora choosing a tiger? Why didnât she just stop chasing after âStellaâ when she saw she was scaring the poor thing? That was unnecessary.
- Stella skipped classes to write homework? And why the hell did Wizgiz give everyone homework when it was obvious that they didnât know about Stellaâs deception?
- Icy could have played that *dramatic pause* cooler. She was being obviously panicky about going to Diamond. Sheâs better at pretending than this. And her keeping a crystal flower? Waaaay OOC. I donât care if it is about her dead/lost sister which they totally pulled out of nowhere to make her ârelatableâ.
- Shouldnât Sky have asked if he can come along instead of just tail them? He can help resolve things faster... or he can become the reason for their defeat.
- The architecture on Diamond looks kinda... Russian (which would make sense if theyâre trying to parallel Siberia with the frozen land). But I am dying at the idea of Icy being Russian. XD
- What trees, Bloom? Where did you see trees? Everything is deep frozen!
- Donât tell me that fox is Icyâs sister. That will be too dumb.
- Well, of course Bloom doesnât like Icyâs home planet. How could she? That would have been too mature a notion for the writers. After all, she must hate everything icy.
- What temper? That fox has legit not done anything. Also, it has got to have something to do with Icy. Look at its eyes! And now Icy is attacking Stormy because of it?
- Aaaaand now weâre getting a flashback. You have to love how they made it look like Icy is the little sister when sheâs not, And I hate how they made her younger and âuntaintedâ self so different! Like, dammit, a tragic backstory does change you but you need to keep something from your core personality! She is being a totally different person and this totally came out of nowhere! I hate it!
- Took Sky long enough to catch up. Why is he the one saving the fox? And Icy totally went nuts here. This is more like her but still... the dissonance between season 1 and this... Why?
- I knew he was gonna fuck up this whole thing.
- Damn, the fox is looking so lovingly at Icy. It might as well be her sister. But it may just be one of those foxes we saw that isnât aging because of the ice that appears to be magical. I still canât decide what theyâre doing here.
- Why the fuck do they need Sirenix? But I have to say that Crystal Sirenix (which they totally just made up here because that was never actually a thing and would have been nice to have been mentioned when Daphne was using elemental magic in season 6 since she is the Nymph of Sirenix) looks better than ordinary Sirenix. Except for the... capes? The animators need to consult Edna Mode!
8x25:
- Sky is actually fine? Well, in the very real danger of drowning but still fine-r than I thought he would be. Sky, think about yourself. Bloom is not the one that is this fucking close to dying!
- Aaaaand... she saved him. He wasnât even underwater that long! Why wasnât he waking up?! Man, the Dragon Fire healing is getting annoying.
- Yes, spend time together while putting yourself in mortal danger. Sounds like fun times! You can even be buried together!
- Sky is supposed to be a Specialist aka capable of handling himself. And how many times is Tecna gonna be fixing his gear? Though, I am at least glad that Icyâs first instinct was to damage his flying gadget.
- So the fox is her sister. Fucking great! Why are they alone and talking about leaving? Where the fuck are their parents? Also, how does that fit in with the fact that the Trix are descendants of the Ancestral Witches?
- Firing all my thoughts here at high velocity: Who the fuck is that? We donât get a name? Fucking splendid! Why is Sapphire still transformed? Icy is super powerful at this point and if the Shaman Witch is so powerful, why the hell hasnât she conquered any other realm? Why does she need a whole planet that is completely frozen? Where is she now? What the fuck is up with all of this? And what happened to Icyâs mother? Was Icy a witch all along? Her being so âobedientâ in that flashback is so totes OOC. I hate all of this. And we didnât need the parallel between Bloom and Icy.
- Icy saying that the Trix are âfriends maybeâ and the the only real sister she has is Sapphire? Worst moment of the whole season! How fucking dare you?! I never thought that they were related by blood but that didnât mean that they werenât sisters!
- Yes, Stormy, tell everyone else (aka Winx) where you are! Or bury all three of you in an avalanche. Such planning! Much consideration!
- Icy, stop being a wimp! Yes, this is all hard but she is not behaving like herself at all! You need to get it together if you want to help your sis, girl! And how do you plan on getting the power to save your sister without the Star to bring to Valtor?
- Why is the Star going in the box? Oh, itâs not. But I hate the implication that only âsisterlyâ love can get the Star. Icy has been sisters with Darcy and Stormy since season 1 and Winx are all like sisters as well! Fuck that! Also, why is it that this one could have only been earned by two blood sisters? That means that Winx didnât have the chance to take it at all! This is really stupid!
- The Trix are free now? How did that happen? And Sapphire is back aga- Oh, wait, no! Wtf????? Do they even know what theyâre doing anymore? This is becoming such a mess! And why is the finale only one episode long when we wasted two episodes on 3-4 of the Stars? This is stupid!
8x26:
- What the fuck are these things? âBrothers from the Dark Dimensionâ? What the absolute honest genuine fuck? Why have these things never been introduced if they have always been a part of his plan? What the fuck, writers? You just sent the whole structure of the season to hell!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! How was any of this a good decision?!?!?!?!
- The Trix just showed up at Alfea? And Kiko is beating them single-pawed-ly? Why? But I like the idea of the Trix at Alfea.
- Oh, it was actually Winx. This is part of the plan for beating Valtor, isnât it? Damn, I was just getting hyped that the Trix decided to work with Winx to fix this whole mess and make sure Valtor wonât trap them again once they disobey.
- Is Icy going to give him the star? Oh, no. She wants to challenge him to get the other Stars. Goddammit! But I love how excited Darcy is about getting to explore more of her illusion powers! Also, Icy both being grateful that theyâre with her but telling them to save themselves if things get rough? THAT HUG!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Stormy was so ready to cry! Ugh, that was so amazing! Almost enough to make up for the bullshit they said about them not being sisters!
- They didnât feel it? That was like a goddamn earthquake!
- I have a question, though. Why didnât the Trix try to take on Winx? That implies that Valtor is weaker than Winx. But at least the Winxâ plan is actually pretty good.
- Why isnât Stella Darcy, Layla Icy and Musa Stormy? They could have covered if they needed to use their powers! Stella could have dimmed the light as if Darcy is using her darkness powers. And the other could have pretended to be Stormy and Icy as well!
- Okay, but Winxâ voices are still the same! Why canât Valtor tell that itâs not them? Heâs literally so not paying attention and they fucked up with the spell because it is incomplete!
- And now the plan went to hell because Bloom decided to crash the party! Great going! So it was all for nothing.
- Now Valtor is back in his demon form? That was a curse his mothers put on him and Bloom destroyed that form in 3x26! But at least the remake looks better than the original!
- Why would Valtor destroy the universe? Where is he gonna go after that? Also, what the fuck? Youâre making this Icyâs motivation?!?!?! For helping the Winx?!?!?!?!?!?! THE TRIX LITERALLY WERE ABOUT TO DESTROY THE MAGIC UNIVERSE IN SEASON 1 AND IT WAS THEIR ORIGINAL PLAN! NOW SHEâS LIKE âI WONâT WATCH ANOTHER WORLD GET DESTROYEDâ???????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????? FUCK ALL OF THIS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
- Is it only me or does this really remind of 3x25? Because the writers were probably trying to cash in even more nostalgia?
- If they donât bring Icyâs world back, it will be really stupid because that was why she was even doing any of all this (according to this whole season).
- They wished for a power-up? Iâm sorry, a power-up driven by how noble they are? The bullshit is unreal. I cannot even.
- No one cares about all the lumens! They should have given the Trix something for their trouble after all of this bullshit and used the screen time in a better way.
- OH, COME ON!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! THEY GET A CONSTELLATION NOW?!?!?!?!? THEY WOULD HAVE NEVER WON WITHOUT THE TRIX WHO WERE LEFT WITH A BIG DAMN ZERO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! (except for being freed, that is)
- In my book this is the absolute worst finale this show has ever had! It contradicted everything we know about certain characters as well as events from previous seasons, had a theme that sucked completely and had Winx make a seemingly selfless wish that actually seems super shady, gave them glory they do not deserve, introduced a new plot point at the beginning of the very last episode, fucked over the Trix (or at least Icy), did not tie up their loose ends and just completely failed to be thrilling in any way because everything was upside down! I cannot even.
This season started out so well. The first three episodes were extremely promising and had the writers kept their streak, this season could have risen to the levels of the first seasons or even surpassed them. However, things quickly started derailing. First, just lightly and then totally going off the rails. The two halves of the season felt super disconnected, the villain plan sucked, Valtor was destroyed as a character (and as a villain) and the Trix were just... what happened there? The new backstory Icy was given was dreadful because of how much it contradicted what we know about all three of the Trix and it destroyed their sense of unity by obviously placing the narrative emphasis on her not just as the leader but as the one that is most important of the three. The second half got stupider and stupider until it reached a finale that just didnât logic in any correct way. There was so much wasted potential here that it is unreal. Season 7 had nothing going on but it did not enrage me as much as this one (and especially the last few episodes) because there wasnât so much absolute waste of perfectly good opportunities. Season 6 retains itâs place as the worst season in my book but the end of season 8 annoyed me enough to make me feel like I could put it over season 7 for worst of the series.

toffee!
ah yeah, i think quarentine has given people some opportunity to actually just sit with the person they are, rather than be rushing around for the person they want to become. its good you got smth good out of isolation! ah thats great! hope you had fun and ur partner in crime speeds back home so you can get out more hehe.
ah yeah ty, good suggestions.
hmm good point, i was sort of putting it separate to the whole not-sexualising thing, but yeah. mmm yeah i totally agree, some of the enhypen fics/imagines *shudder* and even reading innie stuff is just a bit *icky* cos everyone still thinks of him as our agi ppang. yeah def would be good but sadly this just seems to be the world we live in. :(
ah yes the holy masterlist (not sarc) i have actually read in the rain and gladius maximus before, but ill go look for in class! oooh thats good! character development lol. hmmmm yes champagne problems was the angst to end all angst, that shit hurt. it was actually one of the first of your fics i read and i recall almost crying over the whole thing, it was so heartbreaking, i can see how it almost made you want to drop angst. good that youve allowed yourself some lee-way tho :)
hehe thats so cool. okay here we go, ill try not to be mortally offended (/hj)
cheese - yes same, i liked it but that was all there was, it wasnt a super standout track. it was rlly underwhelming for me but some of the hook is super catchy so there is Redemption (tm) in store for cheese maybe
thunderous - mmm, yeah at first i totally agreed, i think they suffer from too much good music syndrome, that all their other tracks are such fucking bops its hard to stay at that level of perfection. the choreo was beautiful tho and tbh, the track has grown on me since ive been watching all the vids abt it. its my brothers favourite track
domino - YES GODAMMIT IT SHOULD HAVE BEEN THE TITLE TRACK. the raps, the vocals, the vibes, the fucking domino sound in the back? i would have streamed that shit on repeat. but tbh, as good as it is, it doesnt have that sort of grandness/oomph that skz seems to like in their title tracks so i can see why they chose thunderous (tho domino would have been so good) *sigh*
ssick - yeah same, not my fave track by a long mile, the crowd cheering was a ?strange? choice and the chorus was a bit bare/empty, plus like i mentioned earlier, it was kinda funny to me for some reason but ill still play it if im playing thru the whole album
the view - ahh one of those not like other girls (/j) i honestly think its just a good party song, just a bop to play in the background when nobodys rlly paying much attention. its pretty generic pop music but catchy
sorry, i love you - hehe yeah i thought it was going to be sadder as well, but i rlly loved the fact that they all just got to sing, which almost never happens, i dont think ive heard felix sing for a long time, so i enjoyed it. wasnt rlly a standout track but i just casually like it. looking forward to the fic haha
silent cry - this song i swear, some bits are rlly good and then others are just? why?? it does sound like a dance song tho idk. definitely not one of my faves either
secret secret - YES its so good! its such a chill song and i love their vocals in it. the combination of lo-fi/fake strings backup stuff and their heavenly vocals just makes it *chefs kiss* im listening to it rn and just... its so beautiful. it gives me pumped up another day vibes ya know? like my pace is edgy get cool, this one is energetic another day i feel like. overall i love it
STAR LOST - ah thats so cool! i didnt know that! on first listen this song had a similar vibe to secret secret but then the beat came in and ahh its such a good song. i can totally imagine them putting this song to a concert footage vid, this song is so sweet.
red lights - LMAO YES ITS SO AWKWARD WHY DOES IT GO ON FOR SO LONG ah thats good! yeah good point, its quite intense hehe. but that is my fave trope and this is lowkey my favourite track on the album so ÂŻ\_(ă)_/ÂŻ just the combination of hyunjins and chans voices, the backing music, the lyrics ahh red lights my beloved
surfinâ - yes lmao its always a shock, i feel like they should have put gone away in between them, but its such a fun cute song, i cant get rlly mad. yeah, as an aussie i think im contractually obligated to like beaches lol. sand im not such a fan of, but my familys rlly into fishing and my brother loves bodyboarding so we stay at a beach house at least twice a year and we live like 5 mins from 3 different beaches (hehe all aussie cities are on the coast lol) so thats cool. do you like beaches?
gone away - ah gone away my beloved, i love this song sm, its just so pure and showcases their vocals and lyrics so well. yes the pitch change is very out of the blue, i feel liek they went directly from seungmins soft vocals to hans powerful ones which was an interesting choice, but hey, im not complaining
wolfgang - YES IKR ah im so happy he got to be included in that era and song. yeah its such a full on song i cant rlly listen to it if im in a quiet mood but its very motivating :)
hehe mood, i hope they do! ahhh no rest, but at least you wont have to pull a blink and wait a year for any word from the group lol. im not rlly into nct but im excited for them! ah hopefully youll be able to sneak some rest into that chaotic schedule, with enhypen (idk if u stan but yeah) squeezed into it haha
<3 w.a. đș
i wheezed at partner in crime, it reminded me of smth. i have a lee know fic in the drafts that i wrote 'in honor' of him (and his departure-ish). i'll tag you when i finish it, if you want. it's a rather hilarious one.
oh my god. based on my experience on the collabs i've joined before, writing explicit shit for '01 & '02 is not accepted (nct's maknaes) but with enha's hyung line '01 & '02 somehow it's okay? i do a double take every time i see fics like those i mean, technically, it's legal but still what the fuck. maybe it's just not for me at the moment. not at us venting our frustration about this. it's just something that's so accepted here that i am (in all honesty) slightly uncomfortable about. but oh well. that's kpop writerblr for you.
man i could've linked all the fics in the ask instead so you wouldn't have to go looking for them! i think i saw you like in class the other day (the fic i renamed into sharp-tongued, god it took me a while to remember the new title). describing champagne problems as an angst to end all angst is one way to put what i was feeling back in december. it just hurt to write and admit?? if that ever happened to me i would prolly cry :d
okay back to the album talk! i love how you answered with more thoughts. i love exchanges like these! i am a victim of the cheese hook and it's now one of my favorite tracks in the album. PLS, TOO MUCH GOOD MUSIC SYNDROME. that's on our self-producing kings đđ
also, your brother has taste! as i am typing this, domino's currently playing in my head and i realized that too, that it doesn't have that 'vibe' of a skz title track. honestly, this could be a title track of another group. ssick is starting to grown on me because i found the beats cool kdjsk not the not like other girls đ the view is the generic pop that i don't like but i get why a lot of people enjoy it. sorry i love you scratches a certain itch that i find myself singing the first few lines every time i remember it. i too would want to hear felix sing more!
> a mini junction on the album talk bc i got side tracked. on that topic, i want skz to switch positions at some point like i know those allrounders are capable of doing so. specifically, i want to hear seungmin rap!!!! (yk in the recent weekly idol he talked faster than changbin in a challenge and changbin is like the fastest rapper in kpop that's active atm if im not mistaken. my dandy boy has some potential and i want it UNLEASHED.)
back to album talk. silent cry is basically sad music to twerk to. secret secret is definitely one of my favorite tracks :( i loved how you compared the tracks HAJSAH i burst out laughing bc yk what, you're right! i want to make a star lost edit of skz but i simply do not have the time i want to cry. i love the song so much. ok, my dreaded track, red lights. idt i have played the track since we last talked. my friend sent me the lyrics tho and i'm itching to write a twisted au out of it. idk if you're comfortable with yandere but somewhere along those themes. the obsessive type of love that's sweet at first but turns rotten. IMAGINE IF THEY PUT GONE AWAY BETWEEN ASHJA it's like going from 50 shades to the notebook.
i was about to ask if you lived near the coast and you literally mentions it here god im so stupid. yes i LOOOOOOOOOVE beaches so much. living in an archipelago is fun :( i live in a part of the country that's more island than city so every time i want some vitamin sea it's accessible. i heard the waves in australia are great :( anYWHOOO gone away :(( every time it plays im compelled to skip it because it makes me sAD AND NOWADAYS I DONT HAVE THE TIME TO BE SAD. contrary to you, i dislike my quiet moods because i tend to overthink a lot.
i have this little analogy about how there are stays that enjoy songs the generic pop + mellow songs and then there are other stays that enjoy the noisy tracks. in my mind, it's like a perfect balance that makes me feel like all the tracks are loved in the end. just by different people.
PULL A BLINK. bro i fucking hate yg entertainment. they have the biggest kpop girl group LOCKED in their basement when they could be (and i mean this in the most business-like way not morally) milking money of the quad. they're yg's biggest hope at not being bankrupt atm so it's a damn fucking mystery to me as to how they aren't doing anything. (jk i just realized lisa solo album soon, but i still need a ot4 cb hELLO)
i stopped looking forward to the teasers. rest > kpop boys. i don't want to sound like a cult member but have you tried checking out nct? are they just not your thing? (i get it tho, that's one hard group to get into). and yes i do stan enhypen!
wow i love how long these asks are! they're like online penpals. but i also want to ask about you! how have you been lately? are you feeling okay both mentally and physically? how's the weather there? do you have anything that you want to talk about? maybe an interesting book you read? feel free to bring up anything you want to share! i'm getting conscious about talking about myself HAJHSJ
and yet another long answer B) i am sooo sorry T___T should these ask exchanges feel draining to you, feel free to stop sending them in AAAA

Lesson In Love (Gigi x Jackie) - Mina
A/N: So excited to participate in one of these challenges again, you treated me so well last time so Iâm so excited to release this! Ty so so much to @dollalpaca for being an angel and betaing
Summary: Gigi may or may not be failing her music studies class. She also may or may not have caught feelings for the pretty Persian woman that offered to tutor her. Maybe. Sheâll never tell.
âJanet,â Gigi groaned, narrowly avoiding falling off the couch as she rolled over and wrapped her blanket tighter around herself. It was leopard-printed, a gift from Jan to themselves from when they moved into the apartment. âDo you think âIntro to Floral Arrangementâ sounds like an easy class? Or do you know anyone whoâs taken it?â
âIsnât it an evening class? I feel like we went over that one like⊠twenty minutes ago.â The blonde hummed from the floor, not bothering to look up. She was probably right, too. She had her own laptop in front of her, in the process of color-coding her online calendar. Blue for lectures, green for labs and purple for choir practices. Gigi had seen her do this enough times - every semester since they met on move-in day their first year - to be able to recognize the blocks in her schedule at a glance. Sometimes it motivated her knowing that Jan could be so on top of things while also being the most chaotic person Gigi knew, other times it made her want to die and be reborn into someone who could organise her sock draw by diameter.
âYeah, youâre right.â She frowned, letting out a deep sigh and closing the tab. Goodbye, department of nature studies. So long, her potential florist career.
The thing was, Gigi knew she couldnât really afford to be particularly picky with only five days before the registration period ended, but still. At least, she thought, sheâd long been enrolled in all her textile-related classes for the semester. She was looking forward to most of them too, especially the design ones. Really, it was just that one additional stupid arts gen ed course she needed to get out of the way, and then sheâd be free for good.
âHow about âArt of Listeningâ?â Gigi asked a few minutes later, reading over the course information. She heard the sound of Jan typing on her keyboard come to a halt. âThat kinda sounds like a class for people that want to become therapists or something. Or marriage counsellors?â
âMaybe people that are gonna need marriage counselling, sure,â Jan replied, her typing picking up again.
Gigi laughed, running a hand through her hair and looking back at her screen. âIt doesnât seem too bad, yâknow. Just two papers and a final.â She hummed, scrolling through last yearâs syllabus. âAnd itâs actually about music, I could totally do that.â
âWait, whoâs the prof for it?â
âUh⊠something-Nguyen I think?â Gigi paused as she scrolled back up. âYeah, Andrew Nguyen, why?â
âOh, thatâs the one!â Jan nodded happily. âRock took it last semester, I think. I remember her talking about it when we first met, she was always complaining about the prof whoââ
âGreat, you should have just lead with that.â Gigi rolled her eyes as she closed the tab. Rock was one of the more easy going people sheâd ever met when it came to that stuff, so she couldnât imagine what a prof that annoyed her would be like. Probably awful, or at least had a bad taste in anime. A soft but slightly damp piece of fabric hit her in the nose before falling down in front of her, disheartened. She scrunched up her nose in distaste when she realised what Jan just threw at her.
âWhy are you throwing your dirty socks at me?â Gigi screeched, picking it up and throwing it back in the blondeâs general direction. âAnd why is it wet?â
âIf youâd just let me finish!â She rolled her eyes pointedly, leaning to grab the sock again. It was a little too far for her to reach, and Gigi watched her stubbornly wiggle to the side until she could close her fingers around it. She smiled victoriously, huffing a little as she leaned back against the couch and made herself stand up straight. âAs I was saying,â she started again, enunciating carefully.
âBefore I rudely interrupted you.â Gigi grinned down, picking at her nails.
âYes, before you did indeed do that,â Jan huffed, âRock took it last semester. And she was always annoyed because the prof didnât always let them use their laptops in class, but she also said that it was really easy. Most of the time they just had to listen to some music and write about how it made them feel, that sort of stuff.â
âThat sounds pretty easy.â
âRight?â Jan nodded excitedly, âAnd I think she mentioned one of her friends is taking it this semester too. A senior, so sheâs probably in the same boat as you.â
Gigi didnât think thatâd make much of a difference, but she didnât bother telling Jan that. It wasnât like the class had group projects anyway, so she could hopefully get by with just showing to most lectures and turning in the assignments.
âI really should have done this over the summer, you were right about that,â she exhaled, shutting her laptop and falling back into the couch. She could have gotten those mandatory art electives outside of her major done as a freshmen, or even last year, like most other students in her program did.
âIâm sure it wonât be that bad,â Jan chuckled, moving closer until she could rest her head comfortably on Gigiâs shoulder, blonde hair falling all over her face. âYouâll do great, because you always do; youâre talented, but you also work hard. So youâre gonna ace all your actual photography classes, pass this one, and be done with all your dumb degree requirements. And then next year you can take all the textiles classes you want, Iâll take all the music production classes I want, weâll go to each otherâs senior showcases, and barely even remember all the time we wasted on the ugly classes we didnât care about.â
When Jan put it that way, it sounded pretty easy. *** After three weeks of classes, Gigi felt like she could safely conclude that the class was⊠Not that bad. If she had to give the class a grade itâd be a solid C-, bordering on a straight-up C. It was mostly filled with freshmen from the arts faculty trying to get an easy A, a solid half of whom had already stopped showing up to lectures. And yes, it was weird being back in a two hundred-person room when most of her other classes were forty at most. She had to turn in weekly written assignments, which was also not fun, but writing five hundred words once a week wasnât a time commitment she couldnât handle. The problem, though, was that as far as she could tell from those three first weeks, that supposedly-easy class would also nâot rate the level of effort Gigi had put in as anything more than a C either. Which was definitely not what she wanted out of it. Far from it.
The class did have one major saving grace, a light in the dark and a minor help in stopping Gigi from quitting the class on day one, in the form of a fellow student.
Gigi didnât know her name, or her major, or anything tangible about her, which was a little unfortunate. She did, however, know that the girl had legs. Long and strong, with toned thighs that suggested at least some form of semi-regular exercise, and looked equally good in the kind of wide-legged, loose cotton pants Gigi herself favoured as they did in denim cutoffs. She had really nice hands too, which the brunette found out about when they accidentally reached for the same assignment sheet. They looked soft, strong and capable and careful. Theyâd be nice to hold, or to have holding her down tightly, or tangled in her hair while she sucked bruises into her equally-beautiful thighs.
So yeah, you could say Gigi was kind of enjoying the course, sure.
The girl usually sat at the front of the room, in the very first row from where you kind of had to strain your neck upwards to see what was on the board. Gigi knew, because that was also where she sat during the first two weeks, until she realised this wasnât going to be the kind of lecture where she could talk all the way through the lesson without the professor caring, not if she wanted to do more than just pass, anyway. The girl usually brought her laptop to class too - covered in political stickers and pictures of cartoons Gigi didnât know. One time the brunette walked past her, only to see a video of a crab walking up a pile of sand playing in the corner of her screen.
Gigi could remember that she made a point about the role of music in religious movements when prompted, and how that connected to societyâs idea of liveliness within places of worship. Gigi didnât really remember the details, mostly because some of it had just flown way over her head, but their professor had been very impressed. When he had said so, instead of the self-satisfied smile that the brunette had been expecting, the girl had looked down at her notes, one arm twitching like she was resisting the urge to scratch at the back of her neck in embarrassment.
Gigi thought sheâd even blushed a little, and really, no one should have had the right to be both this attractive and adorable at the same time. She wasnât quite sure how she felt about the crab video, which was definitely weird, even by art faculty standards. But for her, she thought she might be willing to overlook it.
geege ok this girl at the front of listening class? so hot sheâs like 90 percent leg and 40 percent sexy aunt energy
janjanjan sounds Hot
geege iâd let her walk all over me and say ty sheâd just be like :] and tell me about the periodic table or smth
janjanjan okay maybe letâs stop there like keep the rest for when youâre alone at home
geege or in the shower
janjanjan thanks not like i use that shower too The thing was, Gigi wasnât new to having crushes. At all. So perhaps it shouldnât have come as a surprise to herself that she ended up developing crushes on more than a few of the people she met. Most of them were great, a lot of them were cute, and a few left her heart beating that much faster as she found herself wishing for their conversations to never end.
What was new (or disconcerting, if she were to listen to the Jan voice in her head), was Gigi feeling that way about someone sheâd never talked to. Gigi still didnât know anything about her, other than what she looked like and the sound of her voice - but god did she want to know.
And it felt like itâd been years, so many years, since Gigi had felt too shy to just go up to someone she wanted to know better and introduce herself. Sheâd felt anxious before, maybe a little self-conscious, but not the kind of shyness that turned into complete inaction. She found herself looking forward to the class, though not the actual work. *** She, Gigi thought, was currently winning at life.
She was done with classes for the week, had no plans that required her to get out of her sweatpants for the next twenty four hours, and was currently sitting back on the couch surrounded by food and two of her favourite people.
So yeah, life was pretty fucking great right now.
She leaned back against one arm of the sofa, a forgotten ball of yarn and half knitted almost-scarf in one hand and the other casually playing with Janâs hair. The blonde was laying down on the couch, the only one out of the three of them that could kind of do so without most of her legs hanging off one end. Her head was resting on Gigiâs lap while her feet were in Rockâs.
Friday evening was their unofficially -designated group hang out time, a tradition that developed the last few months without any of them being aware of it, but now it was something that she wouldnât miss for the world. It usually just meant Thai food, bitching about their classes, and whatever booze one of the other two decided to pick up. When Rock made grabby hands at her, Gigi grabbed an unopened can of sparkling water she brought for today and passed it on.
âThank you,â Rock chuckled as she cracked it open, leaning forward to catch some of the foam that came out before it had a chance to further stain the couch. âYâknow,â she started, as she watched Gigi reach over for the mostly-empty bag of popcorn on the table. âI could just ask Jackie to help you out with the class.â
The brunetteâs fingers closed on thin air, the bag of popcorn she was aiming for remaining just out of reach. âWhoâs Jackie?â she asked absently, shuffling forward gently and trying not to dislodge Janâs head from her lap.
Jan flicked her on the thigh regardless. âRockâs friend, the one I told you about when you signed up! And, yâknow, the one thatâs also taking the class right now.â
âOh,â Gigi realised. She totally remembered that, right. Her fingers grazed the bag of popcorn again, but in her haste she just ended up pushing it a few inches further away, balancing precariously on one edge of the table. âThat Jackie.â
âI think she tutored, like, half her contemporary fiction class last year. So you know sheâs gotta be good at actually teaching things, and not just smart,â Jan continued, as though Gigiâs attention was mostly captured by the pursuit of academics. One more inch, she leaned in a little further, balancing her weight on one arm. She just needed to get one inch closer and the bag would be hers. She could already taste the powdery, buttery, amazingness on her tongue.
âAnd Rockieâs always talking about how her old professor still basically cries about not being able to convince her to stay in the department. Iâm pretty sure sheâd totally still take him on as a grad student if Jackie just asked, nevermind that she transferred out more than two years ago.â
âSo what do you think?â The blonde finished, a little more loudly, like she realised Gigi had tuned her out a bit. And Gigi had, yes, but she could finally feel her fingers closing in on the bag, triumphantly reaching in and stuffing a handful of popcorn - fat free - into her mouth. âDo you want Rock to ask Jackie when she has some time to meet up with you? Or maybe just give her your number, if thatâs easier?â
âWhat? No, donât do that. Iâm not doing that bad.â Gigi laughed slightly, rolling her eyes. âNo, Iâm all good.â
âItâs too late anyway,â Rock laughed, all faux-casual. âI already messaged her.â She shoved her phone in front of Gigiâs face, and yeah, right there, that was a message saying just that, complete with her own number at the end.
âWhy would you do that?â She complained loudly, tapping at the screen furiously to try and make it delete. It wasnât that she was against the idea of getting help with the class, but mostly she was reluctant to have it taking up more of her time than it already did. Especially when she didnât even know the girl.
âYou need help!â Rock said with a yelp, avoiding the kick Gigi aimed at her. âShe can help! Itâs a perfect solution, why are you trying to hit me!â The last one landed just under her armpit, drawing out a higher-pitched squeal. âBesides, Jan agreed with me that itâs a good idea,â she added, turning expectantly towards her. âTell her how you were the first one to even suggest it.â
Next to them, Jan had indeed been suspiciously quiet. âWhy arenât you saying anything?â Gigi asked, poking the older woman in the chest.
âDonât you want to see what your soon-to-be tutor looks like, Geege?â Jan giggled, ignoring her question.
âOh, youâre right, let me show you her insta,â Rock butted in, her thumbs moving on her phone screen for a moment before handing it to Gigi with an evil smile.
Jacqueline Coxx, the profile read, next to a very familiar, grinning face. The same very familiar, grinning face that Gigi had spent many a lesson fawning over. This had to be a mistake, there was no way. âYou should really be better at Instagram-stalking people,â Jan laughed as Gigi felt her mind going blank. âI think itâs the only skill thatâs going to save our generation from lifelong unemployment. Or underemployment, for that matter.â
The brunette didnât give it a second thought before she pushed her off the couch and onto the floor, screams of unacceptable betrayal and terrified excitement echoing loud in the room.
*** geege hiiiii is this jackie cox? this is gigi, roxanneâs friend from the listening class she said sheâd told you i would message you geege but in case she didnât i wanted to ask you about some tutoring if you could tutor me i mean geege but if you canât thatâs all good !! donât feel like you have to say yes just bc of rocks stupid puppy eyes oh and sorry about the triple-text ***
âI more than triple-texted her, but three separate times,â Gigi groaned, burying her face in between the couch cushions.
âIâm sure it wasnât that bad,â Jan comforted, running a hand through her hair. Gigi would maybe feel a little bad about how much complaining sheâd been doing over this, but everytime she thought of stopping, she reminded herself that Jan was at least forty-five percent to blame for this in the first place.
âItâs been more than two days. Whenâs the last time you went forty-eight hours without checking your phone? And be honest.â
Janâs silence was enough of an answer. *** Jackie Hey Gigi! Rock did tell me about you, itâs all good Do you want to meet up after class on monday to figure out the details? Oh and sorry for such a late reply My phone was broken after i dropped it in a lake while i was hiking *** In an ideal world, Gigi would have planned things so she could get to class nice and early on the day she was supposed to properly meet Jackie. Sheâd have maybe put a little more thought than usual into her outfit, and made sure her hair looked good. Worn that red headband she knew did great things for her forehead and her eyebrows, maybe. Not that Gigi ever looked like a slob, but she definitely had clothes she liked more than others, and that she thought served her better for seduction purposes. Or even for just âmaking a decent first impressionâ, which sheâd really settle for right now, as she ran up the final flight of stairs. Nothing said âIâm serious about needing help with this classâ like showing up late, especially for a course where attendance was actually recorded.
She spotted the door to the classroom still cracked open at the end of the hallway and slowed down a little, trying to catch her breath. She ran a hand through her hair, hoping thatâd tame the mess a little and her cheeks wouldnât be too red from the unexpected burst of athleticism. At the front of the room, their professor has already started talking, and Gigi quietly slipped into the first free seat she spotted, grateful to have avoided drawing everyoneâs attention to herself.
It was only minutes before the class ended that Gigi thought to look around for Jackie, peering across the middle rows of students before she accepted that she wouldnât dare sit anywhere but the very front row. She tried to lean forward to glance at the first row once or twice, eventually accepting that there was no way she could be subtle and standing the slightest bit up from her chair. The first row was mostly empty, as it usually tended to be. Gigi recognized a girl from the Image Composition class she took last semester, and thought about saying hi to her after class when she remembered she had a goal here. As she let her gaze move through the other students in the front, it eventually landed on Jackie, although Gigi had to do a double-take to make sure it was definitely her.
The thing was, sheâd gotten to see - unknowingly, at the time - Jackie often enough since the semester started to get a sense of her style. And from Gigiâs weeks of casual observation, she tended to favour loose, comfortable clothes, and mostly neutral colours. She liked floral patterns too, especially on shirts, which the brunette could appreciate.
However, the first thing she noticed today was Jackieâs hair. And really, Gigi thought that if it wasnât for the bright smile and the longest legs known to humankind, she wouldnât have even recognized her.
The messy dark brown hair that Gigi had gotten used to, and maybe dreamt about running her hands through once or twice, was now four inches shorter and numbingly straight, effortlessly falling over her forehead and almost into her eyes when she looked down. Something about the flawlessness of her hair combined with the white hoodie she was wearing seemed to make her face glow, skin tanned and radiant with pearly teeth glinting through a bemused grin as she laughed at something her friend was saying.
Damn.
She was brought out of her daydreaming by the sound of students around her packing up their things, and Gigi realised that she most likely missed the professor dismissing their class. As she struggled with the zipper of her bag, the same one sheâd been meaning to get fixed for the last three months but still hadnât, she felt a hand hesitantly tap on her shoulder, warm against the thin material of her shirt.
âHey, Georgia right?â A voice asked right behind her, and when Gigi turned around Jackie looked just as good as she did the first time she saw her at the beginning of the semester.
âGigi. Iâmâ my nameâ Yep, hi, thatâs me. Whatâs shaking?â The brunette chuckled awkwardly, âThank you so much for agreeing to help me out, I really appreciate it! Or at least agreeing to consider it I mean, I know we really just said weâd talk about the details today, so you technically havenât agreed to anything yet. And you donât have to, obviously.â
Jackie didnât seem thrown off by the sudden explosion of words and gratefulness, which Gigi took to be a good sign. If anything, her smile only grew less hesitant, the tiniest dimple appearing on her left cheek.
âWe could, like, go to that library around the block? Itâs a nice place to study, so.â Gigi nodded, following Jackie and making awkward small talk until they made it inside. She learned in those quick minutes that Jackie liked crabs, and geography, and obscure movie references no one else understood.
âItâs been a while since I was here to be honest.â Jackie grinned, swiping at her phone casually. âI missed it.â
"Right, Rock mentioned youâd transferred out of the faculty.â
The brunette hummed in agreement, looking a little surprised at Gigiâs knowing about this. âYeah, I swapped my major and minor back halfway through my second year. Geo major with a minor in stage production now.â She made little jazz hand motions as she said it, and the brunette really wished she didnât find it half as endearing as she did.
âOkay, so, tell me more about what youâve been struggling with so far,â Jackie asked with a tilt of her head, and they got down to business. *** Maybe it was a little self-sabotaging (or self-serving, she could never quite decide), but part of what Gigi quickly found out she liked best about their bi-weekly tutoring sessions, was how much time she got to just stare at Jackie. Sheâd finish writing up the draft of her weekly listening assignment and pass it on for the older woman to read over, and get a solid five-to-ten minutes of ogling out of it.
Not that she was ogling her per se, that sounded bad. She was just⊠appreciating. Appreciating Jackieâs arms, and her neck, and her cheekbones, and her brain as she read through Gigiâs outline. Every now and then, Gigi would catch her frowning slightly, bringing her pen to the paper and tapping over the words as she read a section a few times over before making a quick note and moving on. It was kind of embarrassing how devastatingly cute Gigi found the whole thing, honestly. Like how the way she was resting her head on one hand, her fingers accidentally creating a gap that just perfectly framed the dimple on her left cheek.
âHey, Geege,â Jackie suddenly smiled as she turned towards her. Fuck. Gigi really hoped her face wasnât making what she was just doing incredibly obvious. âWhat did you have in mind for this part here?â She asked, shuffling her chair to bridge the space between the two of them.
âWhich part?â Gigi shakily replied, leaning in a little. The paper she wrote her outline on was on the table, technically close enough for both of them to read, but just barely. Gigi told herself that was her excuse for moving in a few inches more, until their hands were almost meeting on the sheet of paper. Almost.
Jackie was making it hard for Gigi to focus, leaving her stumbling through the start of an explanation of the admittedly somewhat unclear point sheâd made in her outline about the sudden change in rhythm. As she got into the meat of her point, she could feel herself getting more confidence, gesturing with her hands as the words started coming out more easily, and Jackie nodded in wordless understanding. It only took a few sessions to realize that if there was one thing Jackie was good at, itâs listening. It never felt like she was trying to put answers into Gigiâs mouth - letting her explain her perception of the music instead, and asking questions when needed. She made Gigi feel like even if writing about how she experienced music as an art form would never come all that naturally to her, not in the way sewing or even most visual arts did, it was something that was still within her reach. Something she could understand and relate to.
âSo, are you saying it felt expected to you?â Jackie asked eventually, after Gigi paused. âLike it was building up to this in the previous parts? Or that it caught your attention specifically because it was sudden? Or out-of-place, maybe.â
The brunette took a moment to think, replaying the lead-up to that section in her head.
They werenât even touching, but she could feel the heat radiating off the older womanâs skin. She could feel the warmth, could see it in Jackieâs gaze as she looked softly back at her, she could smell it even. And Gigi knows that didnât actually make sense, that all she was probably smelling was laundry detergent and sweat and maybe coffee. Gigi didnât even like the smell of coffee. But right now, sitting side-by-side in the library and alternating between emphatically talking and listening to each other, Gigi felt like all of those things.
It was only when they both moved on from that particular point, a few messy notes from Jackie hastily written to Gigiâs own words, that she realized just how close theyâd gotten. She was well into Jackieâs personal space, their shoulders no longer content just brushing against each other occasionally but rather aligned against one another. No wonder she could smell the coffee.
She started to move back slowly, not wanting to draw attention to how close sheâd gotten, but a sharp sting on her ear stopped her mid-motion. She let out a small cry of pain, Jackie immediately turning to face her. The older girl felt impossibly closer than a moment ago.
âI think my earring got caught in your shirt,â Gigi said quietly, a pained and nervous giggle leaping from the back of her throat. She remembered putting them on this morning, long and dangly strips of silver shaped like eyes, and thinking about how they might get stuck in her hair. If the lack of distance between the two of them went unnoticed earlier, it was definitely no longer the case. Gigi felt incredibly conscious of every exhale of her breath, of Jackieâs face only inches away from hers. The guy in the seat in front of them threw them a dirty look, like he was annoyed at how wrong Gigiâs flirting attempts had turned out. She couldnât really blame him because, what the fuck, they had turned out pretty bad, huh.
âHold on,â Jackie breathed, âlet me untangle it for you.â Gigi knew she was speaking quietly because they were in a library, and so close to each other anything above a whisper was unnecessary, but she was struck hard by the intimacy of it nonetheless. She couldnât decipher whether choosing to wear those earrings today was the best or worst decision sheâd ever made.
Jackie reached for the end that got caught, carefully lifting it away from the threads of her sweater. It was the kind of tangle no one could probably ever manage to achieve if they tried, and yet happened without either of them realizing it. When she moved to grasp at the fabric a little more firmly, her fingers brushed against Gigiâs neck, unexpected. And maybe itâs stupid to feel so thoroughly destabilized by the mere touch of a fleeting hand, but Gigi found herself forgetting to breathe for a few seconds.
âThere,â Jackie chuckled as the earring finally came free, looking in Gigiâs direction without directly meeting her gaze. âI think youâre all good now.â
Gigi thanked her politely, but sheâd be the first to admit she found it hard to focus during the rest of their session, every brush of air or clothing against her neck making her shiver at the memory of Jackieâs fingers. ***
âWait, Jackie Coxx?â Crystal asked the next time Gigi met up with her to catch up over some drinks in their favorite dive bar. Crystal had technically been Janâs friend first, but she and Gigi had gotten a lot closer over the years, bonding over a love of what their friends would lovingly call âloudâ and âconfidentâ clothing choices. ââTrips on her own feetâ Jackie Coxx?â Crystal continued, the grin on her face widening as Gigi felt her cheeks heating up. âFollows at least three Twitter accounts dedicated to Star Trek? Rockieâs junior year baby crush? The sameââ
âRock is still a junior, Crys,â Gigi interrupted, laughing, becauseâ what. What. âAnd wait, she has a crush on Jackie? My Jackie?â
âSo not the point,â Crystal answered, still smiling like this was the best news sheâd heard all week. âMy Jackie huh? God, youâre such a simpââ
âNo.â Gigi groaned, dragging out the âoâ. âBack to Rock. My best friend, Janet fucking Sport, is head over heels, stupidly in love with Rock. And I donât care how adorable she is, if what youâre telling me is true, sheâs just been⊠been using her! And that really this whole time sheâs just been waiting and pining for Jackie! As if Jan didnâtââ
It was Crystalâs turn to interrupt this time, the smile having faded away from her face to leave way for a confused expression. âGigi, Gigi, stop for a second,â she repeated, a little more forceful than the brunette was used to hearing her speak. âCome on, think of all the time youâve spent with Rock, with both of them. Have you ever gotten the impression that she was anything that a hundred and ten percent in?â
The brunette closed her eyes for a moment. She thought of Jan ditching her and Nicky to go hang out with Rock every Friday. Of Jan dragging her to go shopping on the weekend before Valentineâs day, an itemized and color-coded list of stores and potential gifts saved on her phone. Crystal definitely has a point, Gigi let herself recognize, deflating as the potential anger left her body as quickly as it had arrived.
âRock did a tour of the university, back when she was still in high school and she wasnât completely sure what program to apply for. Jackie was the one doing it apparently.â The red head paused to take a sip of her drink, grimacing a little at the taste. Why she kept ordering those novelty IPAs everywhere they went despite knowing full well she didnât like how hoppy they were, Gigi had no idea. âI think she just made Rock feel comfortable, you know? Like, it was fine that she didnât have everything figured out already, and made sure she knew she wasnât making a decision at seventeen that she could never walk back. So Jackie gave her her number in case she had any questions, and then they actually started hanging out together once Rock started this year.â
âOh,â Gigi realised, âthat does really sound like her, yeah.â She could imagine it in her head, Rock a little younger and more unsure, not all that dissimilar from how she behaved when Jan first introduced the two of them to each other.
It was strange, remembering that a few months ago she would avoid directly meeting her gaze or spending any one-on-one time with her, when she could also recall the âu upâ and ânetflix? :)â texts she received from the shorter woman last night. It also really sounded like Jackie, although she didnât tell Crystal so. It was just as easy to imagine her taking the time to reassure a worried high-school student without making her feel like she was being talked down to.
Crystal was still looking at her expectantly, and Gigi couldnât help but feel a little embarrassed at how strongly she reacted. âSo, not an actual crush then?â
âNope, she just thinks Jackie is really cool. God knows why, because based on what Iâve heard, sheâs kind of a giant dork.â
âHot giant dork.â Gigi rolled her eyes. âMaybe I should have asked you that first.â
âUh-huh,â Crystal replied, giving Gigiâs shoulder a squeeze. âYou should ask her for the full story, actually. Iâm surprised you havenât heard it before, but she tells it much better than I do. And maybe you want to spend some time thinking about why you reacted that quickly, because we both know Jan is a pretty flimsy excuse.â
The brunette sighed loudly. âItâs just a crush, itâs nothing.â It didnât sound convincing even to herself. Back when Jackie was just the hot girl in her class, that would have probably been true, but it felt like a long time ago now.
Crystal rolled her eyes with a cheeky smile. âThat was a lot more believable five minutes ago, but sure.â
Gigi made sure to hit her in the leg for that, laughing easily and sputtering mindlessly about how she had it all wrong.
âWait, what did Rock used to want to study, back when she was in high school?â
There was a long pause, before Crystal finally cackled., âVideo game design.â *** geege do you think itâs weird

*** âDo you want to listen to it again, maybe?â Jackie asked, reaching for her headphones. âThen you can tell me the exact part youâre thinking of.â
It was another Wednesday afternoon, but this time theyâd ditched the library in favor of a small coffee shop that was closer to where Jackie lived. It was artsy in a way that Gigi was used to, a little hipster, but not actually fancy enough to properly lay claim on the word. The tables were a little worn in and wobbly, the lattes a little too cheap, and the art prints on the wall either too well-known or not enough.
âSure, just give me a second.â Gigi took the earbud the Persian woman offered her, making an aborted motion towards the computer, before following through as Jackie nodded at her with a soft smile. The older womanâs phone vibrated on the table between them, and she took a quick glance at the screen before putting it back down with a little more force than necessary.
It took Gigi a few tries to find the part she had in mind when mentioning texture, replaying the same part a few times over until she was fairly certain she found what she was looking for. âThat part here, until the tempo slows down againââ
The brunette was cut off by the sound of Jackieâs phone vibrating on the table again, lighting up with a missed call notification and some texts.
âShit, Iâm sorry,â the Persian woman cursed sheepishly. âThis is so rude. Iâm sorry, Geege, I should have just turned it off earlier.â She sounded a little annoyed, but mostly flustered, taking a quick look at the screen before flipping it back over facing down.
She flashed the younger woman an apologetic smile, her cheeks coloring a little as she pointedly pushed the phone away from her.
âAre you sure everything is okay? We can take a break if you need to deal with some stuff? Or even just cancel for today, I think I have basically everything I need to finish writing this up, so.â
âNo, no, Ăąsemun be zamin nemiyĂąd,â Jackie protested, mind clearly elsewhere. âItâs nothing, really. Or, well, it is something I guess, but itâs kind of stupid and I shouldnât let it distract me, you know?â
Gigi hummed noncommittally, not wanting to force her to talk about whatever this was if she didnât want to, but finding herself unwilling to acknowledge it as something stupid either. She offered Jackie what she hoped was a quick and comforting smile instead.
âI justâŠâ She sighed, rubbing at her eyes with the heel of her palm. âIâve been waiting to hear back from this prof about a recommendation letter for grad school? And sheâd said yes before, but some more students asked her, and she has this thing about not writing more than five letters per year, I donât know. So she said sheâd get back to me today or tomorrow to confirm, and Iâve just been really stressed.â
âOh no, Iâm sorry. That sounds really stressful.â Gigi brought a hand to Jackieâs shoulders, squeezing the back of her neck lightly. She tried to avoid doing too much extensive thinking about what she might do after college, but she doubted it was a train of thought thatâd ever made anyone feel good.
âItâs okay, I should be used to it.â Jackie shrugged with resignation. âItâs just that every time I remember Iâm waiting to hear back from her it makes me think of next year, and whatâll happen if I donât get in? Or if I do, because itâs like I really know that grad school is what I want to do, you know?â She ran a frustrated hand through her hair, and Gigi really wished they were close enough friends for her to offer Jackie a hug or something.
âJust call your prof back now. You should have said something earlier, and we could have rescheduled.â
âOh,â Jackie breathed out, sounding inexplicably surprised as she turned towards her. âNo, no, no, no, thatâs not necessary. That wasnât her. Iâm sorry Iâm a bit of a mess today, letâs just get back to this thing, yeah?â
Gigi nodded, reaching for the headphones and passing one on to her. In a lot of ways, this had grown to be her favorite part of their sessions. Not that she didnât enjoy listening to Jackie talk about music, which she did; mostly because she was practically tone deaf and found it magical that Jackie was so good at it, or trading ideas back and forth on the pieces they listened to, both of which were rewarding in their own ways. But there was something about sitting next to each other, silent save for the shared music, that just got to her.
They were standing outside the coffeeshop, Jackie struggling to undo the lock on her bike, when Gigi thought back to their earlier conversation. âI know itâs not the same because Iâm not graduating yet, but you know Iâm here if you ever need to talk to someone, right? Like, no pressure or anything, but I justâ just wanted to put it out there, I guess.â
Jackie stopped mid-motion and looked up at her, half of her U-lock in hand. âThanks, Gigi.â She grinned, all bright and pearly and warm. âI think sometimes I just get too in my own head, you know? Especially about things I canât do anything about. And yes, I know how stupid it is to stress out over these things so much, I really do.â
âI donât think thatâs stupid, though,â Gigi mentioned, as they started walking towards her bus stop. It was really nice of Jackie to walk there with her, rather than just take off on her bike straight away. It maybe made sense now that they knew each other well enough, but her heart still kind of fluttered whenever she offered it. âI mean, maybe itâs not productive because youâre worrying about things you canât control, sure, but it also means you care, right? And I donât think thatâs something stupid, even if you wish you could just⊠not care less, but care better, you know. Still care, but in a way thatâs better for yourself. To yourself.â
She thought of her parents, and of the guilt she used to feel every time she overheard someone asking them if they really thought it was wise to let her go to college for fashion, how she overworked herself to the point of passing out alone in the studio her freshman year in a misguided attempt to redeem herself from having failed a class. Like she thought she could atone for her perceived academic failures by working her body into the ground. She thought of the conversations that had started to happen in her periphery, whispers of âWhat are you thinking of doing after next year?â, âHave you also applied for the internship at this gallery?â, âHave you considered doing a minor in business?â, and how she sometimes struggled with not letting these thoughts invade her brain late at night.
âI just think itâs hard sometimes, but itâs even harder if we donât let ourselves accept it. Or talk about it. So I guess all Iâm saying is that if you need someone to listen, you know where to find me,â she finished with a deep breath.
When she looked up, there was a quiet smile on Jackieâs face, and Gigi felt warm at the thought of maybe having been the one to put it there. ***
geege you know i suddenly understand why you do the shoulder thing like i use to never really get it but that was before

geege hm
janjanjan believe me i would know *** No matter how much she tried to forget about it, Gigiâs last session with Jackie was a thing that was very much happening right now.
It was strange, thinking back to the beginning of the semester, how she almost didnât sign up for the class. How she maybe would have never met Jackie if she hadnât, or maybe would have just pined from afar without ever learning her name were it not for her meddling friends. She found herself spending the last half of their session wondering more about how to casually ask Jackie if theyâd still hang out once finals are over. Or if their semester-long friendship was, well, just that.
In the end, she just blurted it out as they packed up their things, subtlety thrown out the window.
âI mean, youâre friends with Rock, so Iâm sure Iâll at least see you around, yeah?â
Jackie only hummed noncommittally in reply. She was busy packing her things back into her khaki tote bag, checking each pocket like she was looking for something. It reminded Gigi of what she used to do in middle school, every time she hadnât done the homework or just really, really, really didnât want to be the one called on to explain her work in front of the whole class. Sheâd just lean down, and start searching through her bag very obviously, making a show of opening every zipper, her head almost disappearing inside it if she could manage.
âDo you, like, need help finding something in there?â She asked, her voice coming out more harsh than sheâd intended, just as Jackie seemed to decide sheâd found what she was looking for and decisively slung her bag back over her shoulder.
âSorry, Iâ it wasââ she stopped and started, letting out a resigned sigh and shaking her head at herself. It made Gigi want to cringe. âYeah, Iâm good now, and yeah, Iâll still see you around. At least for the summer, but after that too I hope! I mean, Iâll still be around and youâll be around too, so, yâknowâŠâ she trailed off. Her cheeks were tinged pink, just barely. Her ears, too, or maybe it was just the white of her sweater making everything appear brighter in contrast. âBesides, you still havenât shown me any of your work, and you promised you would.â She was right about that, Gigi knew. She usually wasnât shy about showing her designs to other people, but somehow sheâd found himself unsure of what to show Jackie first.
She settled her bag on one shoulder, and they started making their way out in companionable silence until Jackie spoke again. âHey, actually, do you maybe want to grab coffee before heading back? I have a bit of time before my next class and I could use a pick-me-up.â
They ended up just stopping by Starbucks, because it was on their way and surprisingly empty for a Thursday afternoon on campus. Gigi got a mocha frappuccino (almond milk, extra whip) and managed to sneak in Jackieâs usual cold brew order before she had the chance to protest.
âGigiâŠâ She sighed fondly, kind of like a grandma would when her grandchildren were doing something theyâd regret. She was shaking her head in resignation, which Gigi took as a sign that sheâd decided to leave it at that.
âNo, Iâve been stealing almost three hours of your time every week since almost the start of the semester andââ
âHow can that even be true when Rock only introduced us in what, February?â Jackie laughed in protest, reaching out to grab her drink from the brunetteâs hand.
âNo, not the point!â Gigi replied, moving her arm back until the cup was just out of Jackieâs reach. âYouâve given up a lot of your free time for me, is what Iâm saying. And you didnât even really know me, I couldâve been a total freak.â
Jackie opened her mouth and looked like she was about to say something, but Gigi continued before she had the chance.
âAnd you were so nice about it. Not âniceâ like when you have nothing actually all that good or specific to say. But nice in that you never made me feel like I was being stupid, you know? And you actually took the time to explain things to me so Iâd understand them, not just the bare minimum so I could pass. You did all that when you didnât really have to, so that meant a lot. Means a lot. I enjoyed spending that time with you, and not because it means Iâm going to pass the class.â
Gigi forced herself to stop there, even though she knew for a fact that she couldâve easily kept going. She could feel her words coming out a little rambly, probably sounding more confusing than appreciative. At least she hoped that was what they sounded like, because the only other alternative was frightening. The idea that Jackie was in fact hearing everything Gigi was saying, her poor attempt at expressing the warmth she had felt growing inside her all semester long every time she was beside her, was infinitely more terrifying.
âGeege.â Jackie looked away, smiling after a moment, looking a little embarrassed. âI donât even know where to start.â
Gigi could feel her cheeks getting hot, but when she looked up she could see that Jackieâs cheeks were tinged pink, too. It was almost funny, feeling what she felt and seeing the physical reflection of it not on herself, but on the person causing it. She wanted to reach out and let the tip of her fingers brush against Jackieâs cheeks, to see if they felt as warm as her own face did.
âYou donât have to say anything, I wasnât trying to, like, I donât know, get anything. I just wanted you to know what I meant, and that I really did mean it, when I was saying thank you.â
Gigi was laid bare, like her body was nothing but a lens, and behind it were all of her feelings jumbled together in a tangled mess, conclusion still very plain to the eye.
It was a surprise, when Jackie stepped forward and kissed her.
Gigi closed her eyes reflexively, but she could feel herself inhaling sharply, her body failing to catch up with what her brain was also struggling to process. When she eventually kissed back, it was only because she could feel Jackieâs body starting to move away, the fear finally pushing her into action. She brought one hand up, resting it on the side of the older womanâs neck, fingers gently brushing against her hair as she kissed back a little more confident. She could feel Jackieâs hand on her waist, warm and solid. Her grip tightened slightly as they separated, not strong enough to keep Gigi anywhere but a reassurance of where she was wanted.
Neither one of them really stepped back when the kiss ended, just stayed standing right in front of each other, breathing the same air. She heard Jackie swallow, loud in the silence of their shared space. She licked her lips, a reflex she didnât even think about, and it was like the realization that, oh my god, they just kissed, hit her all over again when she found them wet. She suppressed a small shudder, although she wasnât sure how successfully.
It was Jackie that finally broke the silence and stepped away from her, letting her hand fall away from Gigiâs side, brushing against her wrist and then gone before she had a chance to realize it.
âI,â Jackie breathed, âIâve wanted to do this for a really long time, Gigi.â She laughed a little, maybe a bit self-conscious, and that was what brought the younger woman out of it.
âI spent hours talking to Jan about this gorgeous girl in my listening class,â she started, words leaving her mouth almost of their own volition. âHow I didnât even know her name but god, I really wish I did. Then I did know, even if I didnât realize that you were, you know, you, when Rock said he knew someone who could tutor me. And then you were there and still the same person, but also so nice and understanding and just⊠good? Like, being around you just felt good.â
She paused, forcing herself to meet Jackieâs eyes again. âAnd I still mean everything I said earlier too, you know. Even if you werenât interested in me, thatâs not why I was saying it, but I still mean it just as much now.â
âOh.â Jackieâs mouth was gaping so wide Gigi was worried it might actually fall to the floor. Maybe if Gigi were a different person, or if her brain wasnât currently busy processing and reprocessing their kiss on an endless loop, she would have felt a little self-conscious at her outburst, but that just wasnât who she was.
Especially not right now. Not when Jackieâs lips were right in front of her, still a little wet, still a little too red.
âThatâs, thatâs pretty good, then,â she finished quietly. They looked at each other in silence for a moment, only interrupted when Gigi let out a small snort. She couldnât help but realise they were kind of ridiculous. Her face was taken over by an unashamedly stupidly large grin. Jackie properly stepped back then, far enough that Gigi could no longer feel the warmth of her body. She missed it immediately.
âI really need to get to my next class.â Jackie rolled her eyes. âSo I can talk to the prof about her feedback on my draft first, but text me, yeah? I know itâs really shitty timing because we both have finals to take and papers to write, but Iâll make it work. Or Iâll call you, if thatâs better? But Iâm not running away, I promise.â
Gigi flashed her a bright smile and nodded in understanding. âI have your number too, yâknow, so maybe Iâll just be the one to text you.â
âOkay, great, nice.â Jackie replied. She had her bag and coffee in hand, but made no clear motion to leave, kind of like she was worried if she did Gigi might disappear forever. It was so, incredibly, frustratingly cute and Gigi couldnât help but wonder if Jackie would mind being kissed on the forehead.
âJacks, itâs fine.â Gigi grinned. âI need to go too, anyway. Just maybe donât drop your phone in any lake before you text me back this time, yeah?â
She turned away with a laugh of her own this time, and Gigi sipped through the plastic straw like it did anything to hide the smile on her face as she watched Jackie walk away.
âWait!â
The Persian woman startled, turning back to her with an unsure smile. âWhat, did you forget something, Geege?â
âMy first final is tomorrow,â Gigi said, looking up at Jackie with glinting eyes. âAnd itâs my first actual written exam this year, because I didnât have any midterms, so how about another kiss for good luck, huh?â
Gigiâs cheeks ached from the force of her smile as she watched the uncertainty leave Jackieâs face, only to be replaced by a raised eyebrow and deep smile. Her shoulderâs rose slightly, like her instincts were telling her to hide her face in embarrassment at the cheesiness, but her eyes didnât leave Gigiâs anyway. They didnât leave Gigiâs, until they closed and their lips met again, and the younger woman thought it felt like more luck than she thought she had the right to ask for.

Interview in Dagbladet 18/09/2020
We have come home from the US on March 12th and took the second to last plane flying from New York to Norway. I was sitting in the plane seat, reading that everything is closing down at home on my phone, reveals Vegard YlvisÄker (41). - Yes, that was lucky, adds BÄrd YlvisÄker (38).
The two brothers, who eventually became world-famous as the comedy duo Ylvis, are sitting in a meeting room at Concorde TV in Oslo. Behinds them is a huge board with post-it notes with ideas for their new show âYlvis pĂ„ Holmen with Calle and Magnusâ. They have just started filming the comedy programme which premieres September 20th on TV Norge. But it wasnât actually PĂ„ Holmen the brothers were supposed to be working on this autumn.
-Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â We were working on something completely different, but then corona came and we had to close the taps, says BĂ„rd.
-Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â We turned around and came up with something different. There are so many summer shows on TV right now. We wanted one too, thatâs why we showcase our summer place on the islet, continues the big brother.
-Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Yes, we walk around in summer clothes and white pirate breeches and film outside right up until Christmas, smiles the younger brother.
Became superstars
Ylvis became, as most people know, global stars after The Fox became a viral hit in 2013. The song climbed to the top of the charts all over the world, and currently has almost one billion views on YouTube. Ylvis have since received a number of job offers from the other side of the Atlantic, but the brothers who both live family life with children and dogs rather wanted to work in Norway.
-Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â We canât live better than here, have an office 20 minutes from the house and family, make what we feel like making and get paid for it. We can dream of big things abroad, but it isnât always more fun, BĂ„rd admits.
-Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â We still get offers but they would have to be made of gold before we would tear down existing plans and move on to something else, Vegard adds.
Challenging
The brothers donât want to reveal what they were doing in the US when the first wave of coronavirus hit. But since Norway closed down they have used a lot of the time to work with ideas for Ylvis pĂ„ Holmen, a show which they are hosting with former partners from âI kveld med Ylvisâ Magnus Devold and Calle Hellevang-Larsen.
-Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Us four take turns in being the main host, and when I have the position, the others donât know what is going to happen. They just have to improvise and go along as good as they can. Itâs fun to see the anxiety in othersâ eyes, BĂ„rd admits.
-Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Itâs also fun to sit down in my chair and be open for everything, adds his brother.
On the board behind them there is a scribble of ideas full of notes with guest or secret written on them, but nothing about who is coming or what is to be done. The planning has therefore been challenging.
-Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â It is logistically challenging. We sit in our respective rooms and plan. There are many e-mails we had to hide from each other and it required tons of brainpower to work like this, BĂ„rd admits.
Played with a fox
Those who follow the brothers on social media may have seen that one of the fox artists utilized corona-time to play with an actually fox. There are many fox dens on OrmĂžya in Oslo where Vegard lives.
-Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Some of the foxes have become very approachable and receive food from the neighbours. They have almost become tame. One day when I was standing outside a fox came. When I threw a ball the fox ran after it, picked it up and dropped it again to play. It was fun, says Vegard, but adds that the fox didnât make particularly many sounds.
-Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â He said nothing, but we have found out that what foxes say sounds like cats being beaten to death.
Neither of the brothers is actually interested in foxes, even though Ylvis will always be associated with the song (and childrenâs book) which made everybody wonder about what the fox actually say. But now the brothers consider the experience of playing âWhat does the fox sayâ on stages all over the world absurd.
-Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Itâs quite funny when you can live off being an artist as a joke, says BĂ„rd while Vegard tells how strange it felt when the duo was on MTV award show in Amsterdam. They sat next to Ariana Grande, among numerous celebrities, but nobody knew who they were before they were supposed to go on stage and had to put on fox costumes.
-Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Then suddenly everyone was looking at us and Miley Cyrus came and jumped on my back, Vegard laughs.
-Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â It is a bit nice that one can put on and off celebrity status, continues BĂ„rd. It was at its worst for a year, and that is exactly the right amount of time. We got to see how surreal and in many ways idiotic the circus is. Itâs quite nice for things to be as they are now.
Received a porn offer
After the foxy success the duo also got an offer from more shady sources and Dagbladet has earlier written that Ylvis got an offer to make a comedy porn for the biggest porn company in Europe and USA, xHamster.
-Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Yes, we received an e-mail from xHamster but we didnât not make contact. But itâs flattering, BĂ„rd smiles.
-Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Yeah, porn grows quickly these days. It has become mainstream, so maybe that is where we will go, his brother jokes.
Award in Cannes
The brothers have become comedy veterans and can celebrate 30 years as a comedy duo in October, when they received their professional breakthrough with âYlvis â a cabaretâ in Bergen already in October 2000. They both think that the IKMY has been one of the highlights of their projects, but they still left the programme in favour of making new things in 2016.
-Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â We are a bit spoiled by being in a industry where there often is a connection between how much fun we have at work and how good the concept becomes. We have always shifted the course when we begun to get bored, and after 5 seasons of IKMY became a bit too safe, BĂ„rd admits.
After IKMY the duo found success with their peculiar musical-documentary project âStories from Norwayâ, a concept which was awarded the best comedy programme at Gullruten 2018 and received the awaed for best comedy concept at the International format awards (MIPTV) in Cannes in 2019. Next time the brothers sit on an international plane might be in order to make a version of this programme in another country. But the comedians keep their cards close to my chest, both in regards to an international version or if it would be something new in Norwegian.
-         Such projects takĂ© long time to work out and it isnât easy to get started with season two, says BĂ„rd.
-         We are hoping to také the concept to new places but so fat it is a side-project that we have, says Vegard.
The duo has no plans to celebrate the 20th anniversary and they arenât much concerned that they are in or nearing their 40s.
-Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â We have always found joy in throwing ourselfs into deep water and therefore we donât feel so sat (?), says the younger one.
-Â Â Â Â Yes, we always come up with something new. And we donât have an idea what the next thing might be, says the big brother.

Top 10 Most Anticipated Films of 2020
Now Iâve got my embarrassingly late âBest of 2019âČ list out of the way, I can finally proceed to the list thatâs probably more exciting - my most anticipated films of 2020!
This list excludes films that have already been screened at festivals (otherwise, stuff like Saint Maud would be here). Itâs also somewhat analogous to groping about for a light switch in the dark - these lists very rarely accurately predict my ultimate favourites for the year, so itâs more of a fun speculative exercise. Hopefully this puts some intriguing-looking films on your radar for the year ahead!Â
1. Dune (dir. Denis Villeneuve)
Plot: The story of Paul Atreides (Timothée Chalamet), a brilliant and gifted young man born into a great destiny beyond his understanding, who must travel to the most dangerous planet in the universe to ensure the future of his family and his people.
Why be excited? The reasons to be excited about Dune should be pretty self-evident - itâs directed by one of the greatest filmmakers working today (Villeneuveâs Incendies and Blade Runner 2049 are all-timers for me), and is based on one of the best science-fiction novels ever written. The cast - TimothĂ©e Chalamet, Rebecca Ferguson, Oscar Isaac, Javier Bardem, Charlotte Rampling, and more - is absolutely stacked with talent. Thereâs every reason to believe that this will be something special, and I couldnât be more pleased that Villeneuve is the man responsible for filling that Star Wars-shaped hole in the December release schedule.
2. Annette (dir. Leos Carax)
Plot:Â A stand-up comedian (Adam Driver), and his opera singer wife (Marion Cotillard), have a two-year-old daughter with a surprising gift.
Why be excited? You may not have heard of him, but Leos Carax is one of the most exciting directors working - he only makes around one film a decade, but the films he does make tend to be very special. Iâve only seen one film of his - Lovers on the Bridge - but that was filled with such ecstatic romance and wondrous visuals that it made me tremendously excited for Annette. Annette is a top-to-bottom musical with songs by American duo Sparks (if you know them for anything, it will be âThis Town Ainât Big Enough for the Both of Usâ), and said songs will be delivered by Adam Driver and Marion Cotillard. It goes without saying that both actors are extremely talented performers with great voices (see Driver in Marriage Story and Cotillard in Nine for evidence), and Iâm looking forward to seeing how they demonstrate their talents here.
3. Last Night in Solo (dir. Edgar Wright)
Plot:Â A young girl (Thomasin McKenzie), passionate in fashion design, is mysteriously able to enter the 1960s where she encounters her idol, a dazzling wannabe singer (Anya Taylor-Joy). But 1960s London is not what it seems, and time seems to fall apart with shady consequences.
Why be excited? Iâm not the biggest Edgar Wright fan, but I admire him greatly and the premise of Last Night in Soho is like cat-nip to me. Speaking to Empire, Wright explained the story as follows:Â âIâm taking a premise whereby you have a character who, in a sort of abstract way, gets to travel in time. And the reality of the decade is maybe not what she imagines. It has an element of âbe careful what you wish forâ.â Iâm a sucker for a good, old-fashioned high concept, especially when said films play with genre and really challenge the viewer. The two female leads - Thomasin McKenzie (JoJo Rabbit, Leave No Trace) and Anya Taylor-Joy (The Witch, Emma) - are among the very best young actors working today, and the supporting cast features absolute legends such as Diana Rigg and Terence Stamp. Whether itâs successful or not, this film feels like a genuinely original prospect and Iâm eager to see how it turns out.
4. The Green Knight (dir. David Lowery)
Plot:Â A fantasy re-telling of the medieval tale of Sir Gawain and the Green Knight.
Why be excited? There has been a sad lack of films based on mythology in recent years - or, to be more accurate, there has been a sad lack of films that attempt to honour what the myths were actually trying to convey. The stunning trailer for Green Knight promises a film that genuinely engages with its source material, and is just as interested in the psychological truths of the tale as the spectacle of its fantastical scenarios. Dev Patel is an extremely talented actor coming off another great movie in The Personal History of David Copperfield, and the supporting cast (Alicia Vikander!) appear to be fully committed to their parts. Iâm excited to see a true myth on the big screen again, and David Lowery (A Ghost Story, The Old Man & The Gun) can be trusted to give an old tale a new sense of vitality.Â
5. The French Dispatch (dir. Wes Anderson)
Plot:Â The staff of a European publication decides to publish a memorial edition highlighting the three best stories from the last decade: an artist sentenced to life imprisonment, student riots, and a kidnapping resolved by a chef.
Why be excited? Itâs a Wes Anderson movie! Of course Iâm excited! In all seriousness, the trailer was all I needed to get hyped about this. Itâs clearly Andersonâs quintessential style, but it also shows flashes of some very bold and striking compositions (yes, Iâm thinking of Chalamet on the back of that motorcycle) that you wouldnât necessarily think of in relation to him. Iâm intrigued by the prospect of there being stories nested within a story, which feels like the perfect choice for the structure of a film about a newspaper. The cast features all of Andersonâs old favourites (Swinton! Murray! McDormand!), as well as some exciting new additions (TimothĂ©e Chalamet, Elisabeth Moss, Christoph Waltz, among others) that feel so well-suited to his style itâs surprising they havenât worked together before. Bring on all those immaculately composed shots and exquisite colour palettes.
6. Tenet (dir. Christopher Nolan)
Plot: Unknown. The project is described as an action epic revolving around international espionage.
Why be excited? I hate to sound repetitive, but ... itâs a Christopher Nolan movie. That alone is enough to be hyped about this. Details of the plot are vague for now, but the teaser suggests the sort of intelligent, high-concept film-making weâve come to expect from Nolan. John David Washington - who impressed in BlacKkKlansman - is a great choice for the lead, and I also love that Tenet will feature Robert Pattinson and Elizabeth Debicki (among my favourite actors) in prominent roles. Thereâs not much else to say given how little we know about this, but suffice to say Iâll be there on day one!
7. Wonder Woman 1984 (dir. Patty Jenkins)
Plot:Â Wonder Woman (Gal Gadot) comes into conflict with the Soviet Union during the Cold War in the 1980s and finds a formidable foe by the name of the Cheetah (Kristen Wiig).
Why be excited? The original Wonder Woman was an absolute delight, and I couldnât be more pleased that Patty Jenkins is back to continue Dianaâs story. The decision to pick up with Diana in the 1980s is most intriguing (and paves the way for all kinds of exciting choices when it comes to the music and the fashions), especially since it looks like the film is actually going to explore the implications of being an immortal being in a mortal world.Â
8. Raya and the Last Dragon (dir. Paul Briggs and Dean Wellins)
Plot:Â A lone warrior from the fantasy kingdom of Kumandra teams up with a crew of misfits in her quest to find the Last Dragon and bring light and unity back to their world.
Why be excited? The animation scene in 2020 looks kind of ... blah at the moment, with the notable exception of Raya and the Last Dragon. The setting was described by the filmâs producer as "a reimagined Earth inhabited by an ancient civilization that venerated the mythical dragons for their power and their wisdomâ, and that alone is enough to fire up my imagination. Off the back of Moana and the Frozen films (which I all unabashedly love), I trust Disney Animation to instil this with plenty of colour and verve.
9. Iâm Thinking of Ending Things (dir. Charlie Kaufman)
Plot:Â An unexpected detour turns a coupleâs road trip into a terrifying journey through their fragile psyches.
Why be excited? Directed by Charlie Kaufman (writer of Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind), Iâm Thinking of Ending Things is based on a prize-winning novel. However, despite the pedigree the main reason Iâm looking forward to this is Jessie Buckley. Buckley gave a star-making performance in Beast a few years ago, and has since proven herself an actor of immense talent and skill (see Wild Rose for proof of what a powerhouse she is). Iâm excited to see her career continue to go from strength to strength, and Iâm Thinking of Ending Things seems poised to be a great showcase for her.
10. The Last Duel (dir. Ridley Scott)
Plot:Â King Charles VI declares that Knight Jean de Carrouges (Matt Damon) settle his dispute with his squire (Adam Driver) by challenging him to a duel.
Why be excited? Ridley Scott is a bit of a mixed bag for me, and has never come close to reaching the heights of Alien and Blade Runner with his recent work. Nonetheless, against my better judgement I canât help but be excited by the prospect of a medieval epic with Scott at the helm. The acting talent attached to The Last Duel is top-notch, and Iâm particularly fond of Jodie Comer (of Killing Eve fame) and Adam Driver (do you really need me to say more?). Thereâs a very real danger of the highly sensitive plot (the âdisputeâ at the heart of the story concerns an accusation of rape, the truth of which is to be determined with a duel) being mishandled by Scott, but the involvement of screenwriter Nicole Holofcener gives me some hope. This could turn out to be a misfire, but my hope is that it will, at the very least, be interesting.
