There's nothing more disappointing to see someone write how they'll read a fanfic so good and then the fanfics they read after that one are trash or whatever and it's like...
So fucking harmful to say.
Can we move past holding something, especially fanworks, with high expectations and expect everyone's work to be just as good and if it's not it's "Oh my gosh, this fanfic is so disappointing"?
Honestly, it's comes off judgmental and does nothing for writers and artists. But make us feel like our work isn't good enough. Not here to be judged. Just here to post our creations we wanted to share, to have fun!
Like, even for that writer who you say has a great fanfic and it should be the fanfic everyone should aim for... don't do that. That writer is still a human and don't need to be put on a pedestal because then they'll feel pressured and scared that they won't write another fic just as good as that one again.
If you're reading for a very popular ship, I am sure you will come across some great fics. Not every single one you read after JUST ONE FANFIC is total garbage.
Other than that, start writing your own damn five-star rates fanfiction then!

I wish we had more female characters like Eleanor Shellstrop. One of the most unlikable people you've ever met. Read a Buzzfeed article on most rude things you can do on a daily basis and decided to use that as a list of goals. Makes everyone's day worse just by being there. Dropped a margarita mix on the ground and tried to pick it up, only to get hit by a row of shopping carts which pushed her into the road where she was hit by a boner pill delivery truck, killing her instantly. Cannot keep a romantic partner despite being bisexual. Had a terrible childhood but will die before she gets therapy. Best employee at a scam company. Just the worst but also can't help but root for her to improve.
Absolute loser. Girl-failure. Bad at almost everything. Literally perfect female character.

anyone notice a new trend of really entitled people joining fandom?
I feel like jerks have existed since the beginning of time, but it feels worse lately.
So far this year, I've witnessed:
People offering free unasked criticism to artists because they're not happy with the way their favourites are portrayed, stating that 'they deserve to know what they did wrong so they can improve' while the feedback they offered was 'why does everyone look like they're on ozem***' (idk if i need to tw this word)
Also giving feedback AND REVIEWS to FANFIC as if they're published works (and adding them on GOODREADS TO RATE)
People mass producing binded fanfiction and making THOUSANDS of dollars off work they did not create (they stole the artwork too)
People running incomplete fanfictions through AI because the writer wasn't updating and COMMENTING on the fic telling others to do the same so they can get an ending
And now, in the span of two days:
People trying to argue that if they can't sell binded fanfiction, then you're not allowed to commission fanart from artists either
The same people encouraging people to use AI or steal fanart for their binds
ALSO the same people openly admitting that when they typset fics, they will edit the fanfiction and change entire sentences so that it 'makes more sense to them' -- one person complained the entire fic was rough gramatically and was seeking permission not from the author but OTHER BINDERS to freely edit as they please
I'm trying to be a positive person in the communities I'm in, but GOD I am so tired. Every day I fight a battle deciding if I should just be a worse person, everyone's doing whatever the hell they want anyway.

things matt has canonized for shadowgast (that i can remember):
essek and caleb have been living together since they got together (so roughly 7 years) and essek hasn't been back to the dynasty since before the mighty nein ended
caleb is cluttered and messy but essek tolerates it for him
essek bakes sweets (because i can't picture caleb being the one to do it)
essek wears caleb's clothes because they smell like him
essek and caleb have a portrait of the two of them together in their shared lab
essek has learned enough zemnian to curse in zemnian (and actively chooses to speak it)
essek and caleb have sat for couples portraits together
essek regularly sends messages to caleb when they're apart
essek has picked up some therapist habits (likely from caduceus) and has talked caleb down from a ledge during bad mental health problems
essek now wears bits of orange and caleb wears bits of purple
beau and yasha regularly come over and spend time at the shadowgast household
there's enough space in their house for guests (and jester has been by enough times to draw dicks everywhere)
they fuck in every room of the house

If the writers of House of The Dragon keep gaslighting the audience into thinking Viserys was anything better than a powerful man who stole a young girls future, dreams and physical body in the quest for a son he will never love, I will riot

I understand the impulse to clown on Essek for walking around in Vasselheim with his recognizable voice with the Bright Queen's spearhead commander, and of course we could turn to the metatextual elements (the necessity of signposting the world for players on the part of the GM, the ease of using a familiar ally to introduce a relevant NPC and new point of contact) to dismiss this if we wanted, but I think it's more interesting—and funnier, as you'll see—to imagine this as simply an extension of the laws and logic that dictate the Mighty Nein as a narrative entity.
Fundamentally, the Mighty Nein within their campaign pursue personal and collective agency, often at the expense or in denial of political power. Where they do interact with more political forms of power, they evade its grasp upon them, most notably in their interactions with the war, but also while they engage with the Cerberus Assembly, the Cobalt Soul, and even the Revelry. The way they pursue agency, on the other hand, has far more to do with their own support of one another and their own individual power, especially where there is magic involved, and manifests in having the freedom to move and act as they wish in the world.
The culmination of this, as we know, is the mechanical ability in their final battle against Lucien and the Somnovem to manipulate the terrain of the battle map to their advantage with only imagination. At the same time, Jester and Caduceus can both call in free favors from their gods, one of whom is unlimited by the Divine Gate and in fact is far more governed by fey logic. Fjord has made three different divine pacts and is virtually unrestricted by any of them. Caleb's hallmark is an almost infinitely malleable home that almost literally seems to operate as a hammerspace, with a pinnacle dedicated to the potentiality of the universe, the application of which is one of his signature spells—against all odds successful in his initial goal, no longer fueled by guilt and grief, of bending reality to his will. It's narratively and thematically cogent that this be the calling card of the party as a whole.
The Mighty Nein are, in effect, dictated by Looney Tunes logic, and nothing else. They have been so successful in their pursuit of their own freedom that they no longer abide by the cosmic laws of Exandria, let alone the laws of physics or sense. So yes, from an external point of view, it does look exceedingly foolish for Essek to be traipsing around in Vasselheim under the Bright Queen's nose, but it's far more entertaining to argue that being a member of the Mighty Nein in fact simply confers the capability of ignoring the laws of reality without consequence when it's narratively convenient, characteristically interesting—or just really fucking funny.
