people will be like "um actually there were articles written about the icj hearings yesterday" yeah, that most news networks wrote and then buried? a pittance for those who went looking, but shoved under: articles about Valentine's Day coming up, real estate for retirees, a fluff piece about a husky in a shelter, an article about bubblegum! Even if you wanted to argue that Trump should take center stage on the front page in the U.S., you'd think that a historic trial at the World's Court for a genocide that the U.S. is funding would merit at least a smaller headline, or substantial TV footage of the hearing.
Obviously networks had to cover it. It's not that there was no coverage whatsoever: it's how that coverage was presented, how accessible it was made, what information was shown. Even the link on CNN (after forty three other links! And that's not even including the two other columns full of articles linked higher up on the same page!) was described as thus: Israel calls ICJ genocide case ‘one of the greatest shows of hypocrisy in history.'
Even when CNN finally listed a link to ICJ coverage, it wasn't quoting anything the prosecution said, it wasn't describing what the trial was for — it reported Israeli spokespeople downplaying what was happening. If you sincerely think that wasn't intentional, or a gross manipulation to discredit the trial (particularly in context of the past three months of coverage), I cannot take you seriously.
Don't talk about "oh but they did report on it!" as a gotcha, as though their coverage is above criticism. You're missing the point.

Now that Eurovision is over, I want you all, especially the Americans, to take a good hard look at how the voting results turned out when people boycotted the event.
In the UK, the viewing figures were down about 2 million people compared to last year. Up to 2 million people made the conscious decision to not watch and not vote because of Israel's inclusion.
The final results of the public vote, Israel came in first place in the UK and got 12 points. Because the only people watching and voting were people who backed Israel or at least didn’t care one way or another.
This doesn't matter. It's a music contest. The boycott was still the right thing to do because it is just a show at the end of the day, and the viewing figures have more impact than the results.
But it is also a good object lesson to show you what happens if you boycott a vote over something that does matter. Choosing not to vote in, let's say, a presidential election will have similar results.

I swear to fucking god, if one more game/series/whatever other media has characters in a setting labeled directly as a college setting (as in that post secondary education place typically only adults attend, with few exceptions)
And those characters are under 18. And those characters either look like fourteen year olds or whole ass adults—
I am going to lose my FUCKING mind.

frankly, the people whose kneejerk reaction to bisan asking for a global strike form the 21st-28th is to say that it takes years to organize a general strike are really unhelpful! no one is saying otherwise, but palestine will be a smoking crater if we all wait for years to do anything - bisan is asking us to do something now. Like are we only supposed to do something if we can do it perfectly??? At some point it’s a valid critique about the work that goes into social movement, and at another point I feel like some people are just trying to absolve themselves from not putting any effort into observing a week of economic inaction.
like idk! I get it, okay! People have bills to pay that don’t magically go away for a strike, we don’t have nearly enough social infrastructure in place to support people to fully stop going to work for a week. But fuck, dude! Stop immediately responding in such a defeatist way! Cut out unnecessary purchases! Try to shop local! Put more effort into promoting Palestinian voices online! Attend a protest, call a local rep, do something!

I have to remember every 5 years that when I was a little kid my dad was having obsessive spirals about things he did wrong like 30 years prior and his talked to his therapist about it and you know what they did NOT say. They did not say "hmmm well have you learned your lesson changed your behavior and atoned?"
They said "that sounds like a really unhelpful and distressing thing that your brain is making you think about All The Time. How about when that happens you try to think about something that makes you happy instead"
(My dad carried a picture of me at age 4 with a large inflatable dinosaur in his wallet for this purpose) (hard to ruminate about past failures when looking at a picture of your kid enjoying a large inflatable dinosaur)
Anyway. Fucking... stop thinking you can Solve Ethics by spiraling you fool. It's the Ethics Cuckoo. Fuck that guy

I love how mqf's oficial description is something like: a good heart who wants to help others but then you read the novel and his reaction to lqg trapping ten infected men who are crying in panic is "great now I can start to work in my experiments with decomposed people to find a cure" and gets out a lot of needles, which makes the man cry even harder.
Even if we only get bits of the other Cang Qiong sect leader's we can reach the conclusion that no one there is normal, sqq is just biased.

To the people saying "Jason wouldn't have jumped into tartarus for Piper, like Percy did for Annabeth" as a way to demean him. Jason, plunged into the sky from the grand canyon to catch Piper in the first few pages of the lost hero without even knowing who she was, and without the knowledge that he could fly. so he basically jumped to his death attempting to catch her. In the first few pages of his journey, he didn't mind dying to save Piper, and ironically, that's also what he did in the last few pages of his journey. Y'all just be making the most out of pocket claims abt jason fr

Just had a friend show me a conversation in a fan discord about Suvi as a Black American woman in the context of the fallout from the election. And honestly? Yeah. The blueprint is simple: Black women are expected to put their own priorities and emotions on hold to show up for everyone else's battles and hold endless space for everyone's feelings while simultaneously weathering attacks on our character (oh she's so angry/aggressive/violent/rude) and authority (she's a woke hire/affirmative action quota/nepobaby) without complaint. We're expected to save the day under nigh-impossible circumstance, and with fewer resources and support that is AT BEST, conditional.
So yeah, relistening to Suvi's speech in The Witness hurts now. Because that's exactly the feeling I'm wrestling with, and what I see mirrored in the Black women around me. We are exhausted and angry and sad. Those voter percentages are a betrayal of "we" that was promised by other marginalized groups when speaking of the interconnectedness of our liberation. And the unexamined expectation that we immediately rise from the depths of our despair to prepare for the next fight is a cruelty. Suvi isn't real, but if this helps lend empathy toward actual Black women in the world, then I'm glad.

So on the one hand, there is the most important military alliance in human history, the one that has kept missiles in their silos for roughly 80 years, and kept the balance of power within the safety margins for two generations.
On the other hand, you have a billionaire shitposter and his fascist disinformation network.
These things are not the same, Jeffrey Dahmer Vance, you fucking clown.
