They were led then to seats beside Faramir: barrels covered with pelts and high enough above the benches of the Men for their convenience. Before they ate, Faramir and all his men turned and faced west in a moment of silence. Faramir signed to Frodo and Sam that they should do likewise.
'So we always do,' he said, as they sat down: 'we look towards Númenor that was, and beyond to Elvenhome that is, and to that which is beyond Elvenhome and will ever be. Have you no such custom at meat?'
'No,' said Frodo, feeling strangely rustic and untutored. 'But if we are guests, we bow to our host, and after we have eaten we rise and thank him.'
"we have no deep ancient prayer-adjacent rituals we say thank you though 🙂👍"

And remember kids, the next time someone tells you, "George R. R. Martin wouldn't make Jon Snow the typical fantasy hero because that's cliche".....
Oh yes he would!
One viewer wants to know what character would you play (on the show)? GRRM: If I could magically clap my hands and become a different person, it would be cool to play Jon Snow who's much more of the classic hero. Everybody wants to be the classic hero! ABC Interview, 2014
GRRM: And the character I’d want to be? Well who wouldn’t want to be Jon Snow — the brooding, Byronic, romantic hero whom all the girls love. Meduza Interview, 2017
In fact he already has ☺️
#asoiaf#jon snow#yes grrm has criticized neo-tolkein fantasy - a lot!#but like....dpmo#I need so many people in this godforsaken fandom to familiarize themselves with grrm's engagement with the genre#he isn't trying to say “chosen one boy protagonist bad” where tf did people get that???#he's directly trying to challenge the more unsatisfactory elements of lesser copies of tolkien's legendarium#the ones that lift lotr wholesale without actually understanding what makes tolkien's writing snap#at the same time he has admitted himself that he has borrowed from lotr albeit with his own twists#but people in this fandom need to know that ye old man LOVES sword-and-sorcery fantasy#he LOVES a good epic#he LOVES pulp fantasy and sci fi#and those inspirations are directly reflected in asoiaf#the way he's named arthuriana/lotr/MST and many pulp stories with brooding dark heroes as key inspirations#almost all of which have mcs who fall into the typical fantasy hero role#and they inspire elements that are reflected back onto jon more than anyone else in asoiaf#like seoman snowlock = jon (+bran)#frodo - who btw is the mc in lotr not aragorn!! = jon (and bran)#FUCKING KING ARTHUR IS JON SO MUCH SO THAT RLJ IS LITERALLY A 1:1 COPY OF ARTHUR'S BIRTH STORY LIKE??!!!!#anyone who's even a little bit familiar with le morte d'arthur will be like oh yeah jon is literally king arthur like 😭😭#same with anyone who's ready the once and future king - which grrm has directly identified as his fav take on arthurian lit#ntm that jon is based on some of the most prolific characters in arthuriana - percival/galahad/lancelot etc#did you know that there's an iconic sci-fi series whose main character is called Eric JOHN STARK?#well grrm has directly quoted that series and the mc as a foundational book in his life#funny that huh? 🙂#do people even know what tf they're talking about when they say stuff like this???? ajdhhjshsbvshja#grrm engages very heavily with traditional fantasy tropes but he of course provides his own spin on them#never has he said that he's trying to avoid stories with hidden princes or chosen ones as boy protagonists#like someone find me a direct quote of him saying that - but I bet you can't smh

I've been brainstorming a LOTR marathon party with meals... here's the food and drink I've spotted so far that I'm keeping in mind (time stamps included):
0:09- Pastries (Hobbits’ only real compassion is for food).
Tumblr media
0:17-0:19- Tea, cheese, jam, sponge cake, and…. I can make you some eggs if you’d like!
Tumblr media
0:20 A night to remember, a cake to remember!
Tumblr media
0:45- If I take one more step….. I’ll be the furthest from hungry I’ve ever been. (First breakfast?)
Tumblr media
0:52-0:53 Carrots, cabbages, potatoes, and a shortcut to mushrooms.
Tumblr media
1:00 IT COMES IN PINTS?
Tumblr media
1:06 Second breakfast.
Tumblr media
1:11 Nice, crispy bacon. (I saved you some!)
Tumblr media
1:23 No food, just the best part of the movie.
Tumblr media
1:50 Second and a half breakfast.

Mytho fans id like to issue a formal apology. I realized I, too, know how it feels to have your special little guy mischaracterized and trampled over by his own damn media and now everyone hates him but YOU understand you understand him and they’re wrong they’re all wrong and also there’s this other guy everyone insists is better like it’s a competition and it’s really annoying and you just want everyone to see your pookie bear the way you see him. I understand. I’ve always understood. I am a better man now.

I would just like to point out that it’s canon that in hobbit culture they make light of more serious things—and I would also like to point out that Bilbo’s invitation to Frodo to come live with him is: “You had better come and live here, Frodo my lad, and then we can celebrate our birthday-parties comfortably together.”
And in context it’s just. What if it was Bilbo recognizing Frodo felt lonely and stifled living at Brandy Hall ever since his parents died, and that he was a young hobbit in his tweens with no one to really turn to or give him the kind of attention or stability he needed. What if it was Bilbo offering Frodo that stability and understanding and companionship. What if it was Bilbo telling Frodo he knew he couldn’t replace his parents but could still give him a good home where he could feel safe and secure. And what if it was Bilbo telling Frodo he could do all of that for him through the comment about celebrating their shared birthday together, because they’re hobbits, and hobbits make light of serious things.

me when one character carries a terrible weight on them that they feel the need to hide and bare on their own and they are forced to be with another character who is so terribly devoted to them to the point of destroying themselves to be of service

I was tagged by @contrivedcoincidences6 to make my OCs this picrew!! Thank you for tagging me, I finally got it done lol!!!
Iseya Tabris: A headstrong and compassionate duelist/assassin rogue. Blunt, and sometimes vengeful, to those who show corruption, incompetence, or cross her; but endlessly kind to those in need. Absolutely did not want to get married, but always wore Nelaros's ring to honor his sacrifice and as a reminder (yes, I did full ass sacrifice a whole item spot for this in game the whole game). Iseya thought she would always sacrifice anything for her family and people, including her found family and her lover Alistair. She was prepared to die to stop the blight, and would have if not for Morrigan's offer.
*Hilariously I named my Warden years prior to the release of The Last Flight novel, but it really added a great element to her character.
Marian Hawke: A two-handy Reaver Purple Hawke who loves her family especially her sister. Even Gamlen grows on her after the death of her monther as she finally is worn down enough to see him better. Marian starts off as a confident sassy jokster who tries her best to make a new life, but as the years go on and she loses and lose and loses, her jokes become a coping mechanism. A mean streak also appears. By the end she's so tired and depressed that she doesn't even notice Anders pulling away from her. She spares and stands by him anyway because she needs this one thing to stay in her life.
*I just really like the default Hawke Names, I think they fit Hawke really well.
Shiren'ne Lavellen: A compassionate, kind, yet firm and decisive person, Shiren'ne prepared her whole life to become a worthy Keeper for her clan. Yet after she ends up with a new calling she takes it with stride, understanding her role in the world is now beyond just her people, but she always rebuffs being sent by Andraste and stands by her gods. Shiren'ne's favourite thing about the Inquisition was getting to know everyone and learn so much about other cultures and customs, and was always happy to share and demonstrate her Dalish culture (within reason). And although she had been so ready to be Keeper and she is Dalish to her core, after everything she knew she could never return and instead found a new quiet life with Cullen. Shiren'ne prefers slower ritual and practical magics and leans towards old nature and healing (I wish spirit healer had been a subclass), but is eager to learn about the fade, spirits, and the journey of ones soul after death, showing this by choosing vallaslin for Falon'Din.
*Took some research, but her name essentially means Voice of the Journey. She chose the name herself for her Valleslin ceremony as part of accepting and stepping into her role as First.
No pressure tag to @wolfwhisperertf, @the-nameless-nerd, and anyone else who wants to ❤️
#this took so much longer to than it should have and I wrote so much more than expected#pls see more info and fun fact in tags if interested#also Contrivedcoincedences6 you and I made such similar hawkes and inquisitors#i had to rewrite them so many times to not feel like I just straight copied you#love that tho#Iseya Tabris being named after a city elf warden hero of the previous blight only to then become the hero of the 4th blight#also using dubious magic to win the day because they both knew they would do anything to end it is so delicious#that really fell into my favour huh lol#also if what i read is correct its even funnier because Tabris means 'person who embodies the soul/ideal/personality of a previous person'#its just too good#My Hawke also genuinely kinda respects the Arishok and is bummed to fight him but greatfull he's being honorable about it#also she ends up super disappointed in Aveline for becoming what she wanted to fix#Bethany is with the wardens and while Hawke is glad she's alive she also know its not where Bethany wants to be and feels so guilty#Shiren'ne's post Inquisition feeling are very much Frodo about the shire after his journey#Her purpose and experience and soul are just so changed she can never truly go back no matter how much she may want to#The first time I played Inquisition my lavellen had mythal vallaslin and it fits the story really well#but when i went to do my world state replay for veilguard I decided to go Falon'Din instead as the Vallaslin called to me#it changed how I played my lavellen so much but in all the best ways I love how she is now#also her being essentially Ameridan's shadow is so poetic#dragon age ocs#dragon age

Under the cut because it’s long:
Okay so now here’s the thing. I will forever mourn that the scene of Aragorn and the Palantir was not in the theatrical edition. Because it absolutely needed to be. If I’m remembering the theatrical edition correctly, we go from Aragorn suggesting ding-ding-ditch with Sauron, being told he won’t go for that, and saying “I think he will”, and then immediately cutting to a shot of his chest with the White Tree of Gondor on it, signaling that he’s Ready To Be King and that he’s Taking Responsibility and whatever. He has a look of grim determination, ready to take on this challenge.
But in the extended edition, we go from “I think he will” to a scene where Aragorn deliberately picks up the Palantir to challenge Sauron. Faces off against him to say “Hey bitch, I got the sword that defeated you, I got the throne, and I’m coming for you in this Epic Combat For The Ages.” And Sauron, who is very aware what genre he’s in, is thinking to himself haha, finally our epic showdown where I win. And he shows Aragorn a vision of Arwen dead, which Aragorn had been fearing this whole time. Aragorn drops the Palantir, backs up, and the Evenstar necklace drops off of him and shatters on the floor.
When we cut to the shot of his chest, we’re no longer looking at the White Tree crest, but at the fact that the necklace isn’t there. And his look of “grim determination” looks more like a man who has lost every hope he had and is just going through the motions, heading off to a suicide mission.
I am forever upset that the scene was deleted from theatrical release, because it absolutely enhances what happens next:
They march on the gate. They are going to die. Their forces have been devastated by Pellenor Fields. They’re knocking on the door of Sauron’s entire military forces. This is a for certain TPK, and everyone involved knows it. They’re doing it anyway, because even though they’re all going to die, the fact that they rang the front doorbell means that Sauron isn’t watching the back window, where Frodo and Sam are sneaking in. That’s all that matters.
And then the gate opens and the Mouth of Sauron appears. He shows that he has Frodo’s mithril shirt.
There is. no way. they could have got that shirt without Frodo being dead. Which also means that Sauron has the ring.
They lost. 100%. There’s the proof. He’s looking at it. Frodo’s dead, the Fellowship failed, Sauron has won, and for certain the future is now the slaughter and enslavement of everyone in Middle-Earth. The “Game Over” overlay shows up. They’re done.
And now it’s basically Sauron laughing at and taunting Aragorn. You have nothing. You’ve lost everything. What is there to fight for? What do you have left?
If you’ve been following my Hobbit Day posting, you might know the answer.
“I’ve got one hit point left. >:)”
Aragorn turns to his friends. Smiles. Says: “For Frodo.”
And just charges the BBEG.
This is what I’m talking about with Tolkien’s brand of hope. It’s not bright shiny “everything will work out! Teehee!”
It’s “For Frodo.”
Read: “Fuck it. I have one hit point, it’s still my turn, and I still have my action.”
I’ll relate it to the moment that you always remember from these movies: Sam carrying Frodo up the mountain.
Sam is trying to get Frodo to have even a shred of hope. But Frodo can’t. He’s done. He’s spent. He’s got no more fight in him to give.
It’s Frodo saying “I can’t. I only have one hit point left.”
And Samwise Gamgee says “That’s okay. Because I still have one hit point left.”
“I can’t carry it for you, but I can carry you.”
That’s Tolkien’s hope. Not “it gets better”, but “I’m not fucking dead yet.”
EDIT: and btw, since I’m on about my Boromir feelings today - Aragorn is in red and blue like Boromir used to wear.

For the character ask meme: Any character you most want to ramble about.
🥺 Thank you so much
I'm gonna go with Frodo because I love him and I've wanted to do this with him for ages.
Character ask: Frodo Baggins (The Lord of the Rings)
Favorite thing about them: The way he, much like Beth, highlights the value of people that are easy to overlook or dismiss. He doesn't win by fighting or force like his companions do- no, he wins by being kind above all else, even to people who arguably don't deserve it, such as Gollum and Saruman. He's not able to carry the burden alone- he needs help, and everyone tries to help him as best they can, from Gandalf to Aragorn to especially Sam. He doesn't expect that he'll be able to complete or survive the quest, but he tries anyway. He tries so hard, and doesn't let his fear stop him from doing what he needs to do. And while he may have succumbed to the Ring at the end, no one blames him for it, except arguably himself. He is flawed, human (for lack of a better term) loving, and always tries to do what's right. We need more heroes like him, in my opinion.
Least favorite thing about them: He sees a bit too much of himself in Gollum, which blinds him to the possibility that Gollum might not have his best interests at heart. This, along with the Ring's increasing grip on him, is most likely what helps Gollum manipulate him into turning on Sam and sending him away (although this is thankfully just in the movies, and Frodo does apologize as soon as he can).
Three things I have in common with them:
*I love reading and writing.
*I've never really fit in that well with others.
*I tend to isolate myself because I don't want to be a burden.
Three things I don't have in common with them:
*I'm female.
*I'm not a hobbit.
*I've never had my finger bitten off.
Favorite line: Way too many, but I'll try to keep it simple.
When he accepts the task to destroy the Ring:
"I should like to save the Shire, if I could - though there have been times when I thought the inhabitants too stupid and dull for words, and have felt that an earthquake or an invasion of dragons might be good for them. But I don't feel like that now. I feel that as long as the Shire lies behind, safe and comfortable, I shall find wandering more bearable: I shall know that somewhere there is a firm foothold, even if my feet cannot stand there again."
When he accepts it again in Rivendell:
"I will take the Ring, though I do not know the way."
When he takes the Ring back from Sam in the movies:
"You must understand. The Ring is my burden. It would destroy you, Sam."
And finally, when he shows mercy to Saruman during the Scouring of the Shire:
"It is useless to meet revenge with revenge, it will heal nothing."
brOTP: The other hobbits, especially Sam, as well as Gandalf and Aragorn. (I also feel like in crossover land, he and Beth would absolutely adore each other.)
OTP: None.
nOTP: Sauron, Gollum, or Bilbo.
Random headcanon: He's on the autism spectrum. I don't feel quite as strongly about this as I do with Beth, but I think there's plenty of reasons to view him this way.
Unpopular opinion: I don't think he and Sam are secretly in love with each other. I can definitely understand why people would have that impression, especially on Sam's side, but I never really got that vibe from Frodo himself. (Although that might just be me wanting him for myself.)
I also don't think movie Frodo is that bad. Sure, I don't like how toned down he is from the book, and I especially don't like the scene where he sends Sam away, but the takeover of the Ring is an internal process, not external, so that's going to be hard to show on screen. And it's not like he's melancholic the whole way through- at the start of the first movie, he's happy, playful, and even a bit mischievous. And no matter how weird the script may get at times, Elijah Wood does an amazing job with what he's given.
Song I associate with them:
"In My Arms" by Plumb.
"evermore" and "the lakes" by Taylor Swift.
Favorite picture of them:
Elijah Wood in the early 2000s films:

Boromir
#lord of the rings#animation#ralph bakshi#saw it on the big screen back when theaters were my home away from home#this scene always gets me#boromir#it has many aspects but what most stands out to me is at the end of my edit#the way the three friends flank him and kneel always moves me#as does the shock of the first arrow blow#young me was traumaed over me popcorn#started my boromir phase#also this scene kicks off what becomes one of my favourite overall sequences#which is the overland footchase after merry&pippin and the orcs#They're taking the hobbits to isengard jokes aside#So much about that sequence says so much#That the 3 friends have to decide To part with frodo#that they undertake the almost impossible task Of following the orcs by foot over many leagues to save their friends#Young me found that to be the most adventurous part of this animated movie#That changed with the peter Jackson movies as I was more fond of the olifant scene because of course legolas#even in the book the chase after the orcs to save Merry and pippin Is a monumental task but they are willing for the sake of their friends#They all feel the pain of boromir's passing more poignantly because they can all relate Relate to the weakness the ring can bring about#They do not judge boromir#And I think in this 1 instance all the way around you can feel the love In the fellowship Itself#This is the moment where their love drives them#And it goes all the way around#Anyway it's not the only one but it is 1 of my favorite scenes from the animated lord of the rings from the shifty 70s#Sometimes I dream in rotoscope#But I never meet gandalf there#And I feel quasi disappointed about that right now#And on that note let's begin making our coffee for this fine Thursday morning
